was reading an article abt all of dean's deaths on the show bc i was looking for a list of all his deaths and just. the way the article ends talking abt dean's last death saying, "The brothers eventually meet in Heaven where they're finally able to live peacefully, reunited with their friends and family." Like ??? That's how the general audience / casual viewers interpret the finale and it's so ???? like you clearly missed the point of the show entirely if you think them dying and being reunited in Heaven is a good ending. And if you think them being dead means they're somehow finally getting to "live peacefully with their friends and family." Like, they're dead !!! There is no living. This new open-world Heaven isn't the same as being alive on Earth. If it were then why keep them dead in the first place ??? Also, literally a HUGE recurring theme of the show is that they DIDN'T want peace or 'paradise' over freedom. Especially Dean. Dean always wanted freedom over peace, because peace is meaningless if there is no freedom. And I guess you could argue that they got their "freedom" if you're doing a surface level reading of 15x19 / 15x20 and take it for face-value that they actually defeated Chuck. But that ending echoes Chuck's ending almost to the T. It's bleak af when you take .05 seconds to think about it. Dean dies young on a run-of-the-mill hunt and sam has now lost everyone (dean, cas, jack, mary) and seemingly doesn't marry eileen (his most recent major love interest) and doesn't seem to keep in touch w/ any of his hunter friends and family (garth, jody, donna, claire, etc). And he continues to grieve dean into his old age, like he never gets over it. It's depressing. But yeah oh, reunited in heaven so it's fine. Like !!! They deserved to LIVE. After everything, if they really defeated chuck and won their freedom they all (including cas and jack) deserved to live and finally write their own stories !!!!

Suptober / Flufftober Day 2 - Pumpkins and Porcupines
Tumblr media
Still doing this thing (albeit WAAAAY behind). As soon as I stumbled on this video I knew he would have to be the star of today's entry.
This one is for Day 2 - Prompts: Suptober: Pumpkin Patches Flufftober: Family, Friends, Loved Ones
Entry is below as well as on AO3 as part of the October Days (and Nights) series.
Title: Pumpkins and Porcupines Rating: Teen Warnings: No Warnings Apply  Tags: Castiel/Dean Winchester, Eileen Leahy/Sam Winchester, Donna Hascomb/Jody Mills, Kaia Nieves/Claire Novack, Wayward Women, Harvest Festivals, Family Gatherings, Domestic Fluff, Animal Encounters Summary: Dean is excited to take Cas to the Harvest Festival, but is also looking forward to seeing his two favorite lady sheriffs and their wayward girls. But there's an adorable prickly surprise waiting for them there, as well. Words: 1,055 AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3758800
=================================
“Hey, there they are!
Dean squeezes Cas’ hand and pulls him through the milling crowds who, like them, had turned out for the first day of the annual Autumn Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Patch. He assumes Sam and Eileen are following but doesn’t turn to find out. Keeping up — that’s all on them. He’s here for two things: pumpkin apple pie, and having a fun day with Cas.
Okay, three things: seeing his two favorite lady sheriffs (and the gaggle of girls — well, women, now — with them). “Donna! Jody!”
Donna turns and Dean stifles a laugh at the dusting of powdered sugar on her chin, the source being the large plate of fried dough in her hand. Mouth and hands full, she pops out an elbow and nudges Jody, who squawks as the cup of hot apple cider sloshes in her hand and just misses spilling. Donna nods in their direction and Jody beams as she spies them.
“Dean! Cas!” Passing the cider to Donna, she strides to meet them and wraps them both in a hug, the strength of her grip all but forcing the air from Dean’s lungs. She may be small, but she is mighty.
She glances over Dean’s shoulder and pulls back from the hug with a raised eyebrow. “What, no Sam or Eileen?”
“They arrived with us,” Cas explains, “but I believe Eileen saw something of interest in the craft vendor’s area and pulled him in that direction.”
Donna joins them, balancing the plate of dough on top of Jody’s cup to wipe the sugar from her face, then passes both to Jody to hug them both herself. “It’s good ta see ya, Dean-o. You too, Cas. It’s been too long since we’ve seen you fellas.” She pulls back, her smile wide and bright as the sun. “But no matter, you’re here now!”
“Oh my God, are you holding hands? Gross.” Dean can’t help the smile as Claire comes up behind them. She punches Dean in the shoulder and then shoves herselt between them, pulling Dean into a sideways hug; then sliding under Cas’ arm to wrap her arms fully around him. Dean’s heart clenches at the soft, startled look on Cas’ face as he returns the hug, brushing his lips against the top of her blonde head.
“Wow… Claire, showing affection like a functioning human being,” Alex says as she, Patience, and Kaia join the group. “Someone get a picture, quick.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Kaia says, crossing her arms. “Claire has no problems hugging me.”
Patience snickers. “Yeah, there’s a reason for that.”
“Yeah, yeah, you can all shut the hell up now.” The effect would have been a lot different were Claire’s voice not muffled by Cas’s shoulder, releasing him to glare at them over her shoulder.
“Anyway,” Alex says, “we came over here to find out where Claire ran off to, but also…”
“Oh, right!” Claire grabs Cas’ hand and starts tugging him toward the pumpkin patch. “You guys absolutely need to come see this!”
“See what?” Dean says, just as Sam approaches and says “See what?” at the exact same time.
Dean’s eyes roll as Jody nudges Donna, laughing.
Patience glances between them, confused, but shakes it off. “The porcupine.”
“Excuse me, did you say ‘porcupine’?” Cas asks, taking the words right out of Dean’s mouth.
Claire nods excitedly and starts tugging his hand again. “Yes, a porcupine and he’s amazing.” With a shrug, Cas lets Claire pull him toward the pumpkin patch, grabbing Dean’s hand to pull him along with. Over his shoulder as he’s being pulled away, Dean sees the rest of the group following with bemused expressions that are probably reflecting his own.
It’s not too hard for Dean to guess where they’re headed — a group of people huddled at the far corner of the pumpkin patch around one of the bales of hay that had been set out as both seating and barrier for the large array of pumpkins available for sale.
And from that bale of hay came the most adorable noise Dean had ever heard — something between a whine and a growl mixed with munching noises.
“I think Teddy Bear found some pumpkins for Halloween,” a woman says as they approach, Dean peering over Cas’ shoulder to see a large porcupine sitting on the hay bale, a small black plastic cauldron filled with tiny pumpkins in front of him.
“What did you find, Ted?” the woman asks, and Dean swears he hears the porcupine say “Pumpkin!” in his little whine-growl.
Apparently he wasn’t hearing things. “Dean, did that porcupine just talk?” Cas turns to whisper and Dean quickly shrugs to both answer the question and shake off the shiver Cas’ breath on his ear raises. He’s not completely convinced yet — it’s a porcupine, not Scooby Doo, after all.
Talking or not, Claire was right, Teddy was completely adorable, chirping and munching away on his pumpkins. Not that Dean was ever going to admit it out loud, though.
“Yum yum?” The woman asks, and Teddy says “YEAH!”
“Dean,” Cas whispers urgently in his ear, causing a fresh bout of shivers with accompanying goosepimples.   “He’s definitely talking.” Cas squints suspiciously and its adorable. “Is he possessed, do you think?”
Dean’s laugh bubbles out of his chest, and he pulls his hand out of Cas’ grip to wrap an arm over his shoulders and pull him close. Claire glances back at them and her eyes all but roll out of her head, whether the open cuddling going on or at Cas wanting to smite a porcupine, Dean can’t guess.
Just to spite her (and Cas is right there, after all), Dean brushes a kiss against his temple and grins inwardly at the quickly-masked soft smile on Claire’s face as she quickly turns back to watch the porcupine.
The spiky little guy continues to munch  on his pumpkins, chattering away as Dean glances around him, at the friends and family gathered around him. The love of his life in his arms, his brother by his side wrapped in the arms of his own love. Donna and Jody arm in arm with their girls wrapped around them as well.
A warm, happy feeling floods through him and he savors it, as much as Teddy Bear the Porcupine savors his pumpkin treat.

I love how protective Cas is of Sam, I don't feel like we usually get to see this

I think I remember Mick?
Sam's trying so hard :(((
agents Beyoncé and Jay-Z 🤭
omg recap with everything for Sam's powers??? *
* oh, it's because she's psychic :(
Sam is so good with kids :(((
come on, Sam, you take all the fun out of antiquing!
surely in a house full of hunters, the demon would have limited vessels??? what happened to the anti possession symbol? does no one else have that?
I know he's the devil from the bible, but I can't say I don't get why Lucifer's so hurt about God leaving
omg isn't that Jack's mom? **
** it is!!!
of course Cas has the exact amount of time the boys have been in prison
Cas, don't beat yourself up :( there's no way you would've known
is someone just attacking all the angels???
"light stick!" tbh it is a light stick. that's not a normal lamp
firstly, this is the episode Cas professes his love. second, the fact that Dean immediately noticed Cas was hurt?? and Sam just kept talking to Mary??
oh, my god, is Crowley tearing up????
I knew it was coming, but don't you dare, Cas, don't you fucking dare
all that for the colt??????

I think I'm just not gonna say anything if the finale is normal cause I feel like this one came with double the ouchie

Season 11, Episode 11: Into The Mystic
Ooh, Ireland!
That looks like Paul Bettany
Cute
Banshees?
A witch?
The CGI here is so very not good
I assume that's Eileen? I didn't think we'd get to meet her yet
Poor kid
Too long
Liar
Probably the same thing
Nice
When has Cas ever been fine?
His face just looks-- wrong.
Does he really think that will work?
Yeah, it is
Do you?
He very much does
Something like that
Not again
Ew
...weird
Dean.
Sam, don't
That's a lot of EMF
Interesting
That's horrible
This is a terrible conversation
What's does that mean?
Oh man, it's the Viagra episode
Dean.
Here we go
That's just sick
Ouch, Dean
Like a leaf on the wind...
Yeah
Not really
I wish
It's never that easy
He's next
Uh oh
It's gotta be a banshee, or I'll eat my flannel
Yikes
Poor lady
They'll believe a lot
I want to hear about that
...did he really use Ozzy Osbourne as an alias?
That's suspicious
Reliable with the ladies
Sounds about right
That's Eileen
Sam. You just called her a bitch
That's like the only ASL I know
Cute
Dean.
Oh, that was really cool
That could be good or bad
Ew
Really?
Yup
I guess
That's so convenient
What was that?
Oh no
Oh, that's really bad
Cas' voice is back
Dude.
Yeah
Right. The "bond"
Don't
By the way, Sam's alias is Geezer (heh) Butler, who was in Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne.
He's preoccupied
Cool
Interesting play
Okay then
...is she the banshee?
They don't know
Oh boy
They're suspicious of each other, that's not good
Ooh, boy
Gold blade
I hope this works
That was dramatic
And left her deaf. I was right!
Poor girl
That's sad
Yeah, that's fair
THE MEN OF LETTERS
That's WILD
Not exactly
I think he can
...maybe
He talks fast
They don't even know
ASDFGHJKL
"mountain climber" oh my gosh I love her 😂
EILEEN
Right...
HE WOULD. HE WOULD LIKE BLANCHE
This is fantastic
Yeah...
He's gotten better at acting like Cas
Yeah that just looks weird
Sam would know
Yeah
She gets to find out
Sam would know a thing or two about that
Darn right
Yeah, well.
Obviously
Don't do that
Oookay
Oh, that's pretty
That's true
He was four years old
Yup
Dean would get a kick out of that
Sure
I really hope she isn't the banshee
Man, they were really setting us up for a happy ending
Of course
I love her
It's after Dean
Uh oh
Eileen's gonna kill it
Uh oh
Well, they got a hit in
Dean!
And there it is
He'll be fine
Yeah
Absolutely
I'm sure
Did they really try to push that? Come on
He sure does
The butt shot 😂
I AM. FULL ON WHEEZING RIGHT NOW
Wow, indeed
Smooth
Fantastic question
Not like that, Sam
That's good to hear
Nice try
Sam...
That was like. Three seasons ago. We're over it
What Dean said
Dean, I think that'll make it worse
That is a GREAT question
Uh huh.
WAS THAT THE FANFICTION SAMULET
Huh
Oh, Dean

well. okay. I went and did it. I watched Supernatural season 15 episode 18: Despair.
I now present my thoughts as I had them during the episode, only mildly edited:
Apparently Chuck is already dead?
Also WOW the dialogue is fucking terrible
Okay so Billie betrayed them and I very much dislike that take on her
Also they decided to do on-screen teleportation after FIFTEEN YEARS of keeping it off screen and just like. Wow that's bad
like the off-screen teleporting just added Something to the show that worked really well? and removing it removes one more cool little aesthetic choice and makes everything fall just so much flatter
Okay so Chuck isn't dead he's just disappeared after the winchesters failed to kill him
Charlie! I didn't know she was in this episode
Well, apocalypse!Charlie, but still
I'm not so sure I like the direction they took cas in this season, like he's very very humanized and very casual and while it does make sense for his character I'm still not that much of a fan
Awww Eileen died
Awww brother hug
Heyyyyy, Donna!
Oh please tell me Donna survives.
Once again the dialogue is just really really bad
Wow Bobby looks young
Also he's just not acting like Bobby whatsoever
was Jim Beaver even in this episode?
Okay yeah this is just a bad fuckin episode
All the people from other worlds just got poofed out of existence and it was INCREDIBLY badly written and directed and acted
It's all stuff that's supposed to be "cool" and dramatic and intense but none of it is actually landing
Oh oop I think I'm at The Scene
Nope wait nvm it's Billie trying to kill Dean for coming back from the dead and being a rule breaker and like. Wow everyone really has forgotten that Sam was the original protagonist, huh
Good God the dialogue is HORRIBLE
"don't you think it's finally time for the sweet release" pause "of death?"
like kudos to Billie's actress for at least trying to make that one sound natural but like. damn.
Not sure whether or not the glowy wards thing is new but I'm not hugely a fan, and there's a LOT of it this episode in response to a lot of things and hrmmmmmmmmmm no not liking it
Oh oh here we gooooooo
I did not know Dean had a breakdown beforehand
Oh my god Cas gets himself schlorped deliberately to save dean's life by summoning the empty to get rid of death?
Also wow THAT'S a fucking sentence
Oh my god?
Okay Cas is actually crying wow
This is a really long love confession when Death is actively trying to break down the door to the room they're hiding from her in because she wants to kill Deean
Cas: Extremely long heartfelt speech about how wonderful Dean is Dean: why does this sound like a goodbye? Cas: Because it is. I love you. Dean: don't do this, Cas
OH MY GOD HE REALLY DOES HAVE NO EMOTION ON HIS FACE AT ALL
NONE
NADA
ZILCH
ngl I laughed my fucking head off when Dean gave the line because THE MEMES WERE NOT WRONG THAT MAN DOES NOT GIVE A SINGLE FLYING FUCK ABOUT CAS DUMPING HIS HEART ON THE FLOOR HERE
Also wow that's a hell of a closeup on Misha Collins there
They had the FUCKING NERVE to play Dean's Family Devotion Theme after he watches Cas confess his love to him with a BLANK FUCKING FACE oh my god
And now we get Dean having a surprisingly sedate breakdown
And we don't even get the quiet credits we get the rock credits
Goddamn. Okay. That was awful.
IN CONCLUSION: the... everything ... surrounding the Destiel confession scene aside, this is remarkably bad. The dialogue is terrible, the directing is terrible, the acting is sub-par even from people who are usually pretty damn good (Felicia Day as Charlie very very much feels like she's phoning it in), did I mention the dialogue is terrible? Because it's so bad, and the actual love confession... well, it certainly lives up to everything I've heard about it (and no, I didn't actually see it when I came out because I wasn't interested in this level of psychic damage then). Anyways. Yeah. Bad.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!
Dean gets the honor of waking Cas.
He fills the biggest Christmas-themed novelty mug they have with fresh coffee and, steadfastly ignoring the flush of his own cheeks, stuffs his prepared sprig of mistletoe into his pocket. Jack is watching A Charlie Brown Christmas with Sam and Eileen, and while Dean would love to relax with them until noon, when Cas will inevitably rouse from bed and stumble towards the caffeine--Jody, Donna and the girls are coming by later and they still need to open gifts and get the bulk of the cooking done.
So: waking Cas.
Dean puts the Sam-sized mug on the bedside table and perches on the edge of the mattress. Cas is a lump on his side of the bed, dark hair the only thing peeking out from under their fancy-ass duvet. He’s doing that little sigh-snore thing he does since becoming human, and his arms are buried under his pillow. Sam’s faint laugh sounds all the way from the Dean Cave and Dean realizes he’s already smiling. He bites his lip. Reaches out to push his hand into Cas’s hair.
Cas barely stirs, hum turning into a groan when Dean tugs a little. He shakes his head. “No,” he grumbles.
“Merry Christmas to you too, asshole.”
“Ugh.”
Dean’s smile widens as Cas resettles, one unimpressed blue eye revealed from his ridiculous nest of blankets. He’s got pillow lines on his cheek. “It’s too early,” he grumbles.
"It’s almost eleven.”
Cas humphs. “That’s what I said.”
Dean raises a brow and Cas rolls his eyes, shimmying into a seated position half awake and grumpy as hell. He makes a beeline for the friggin’ vat of coffee on the bedside table. Dean digs a hand into the pocket of his robe and takes a deep, shaking breath.
“Hey, so...” He frowns at his fist, eyes flicking up to where Cas is trying and failing to look engaged and interested. “Uh, I got you a present.”
Cas gives a bleary kinda frown. “Forgive me,” he says, “but aren’t we supposed to open gifts with everyone, near the tree?”
“Well, yeah,” Dean says nervously, haltingly. “S’just, um. This gift is kinda... personal? I just. I mean, it’s fine, obviously, it ain’t like you need to accept it or anything, I was just, I mean, I didn’t really want to do this in front of everyone and--”
“Dean.”
When he looks up, Cas is totally awake, brow furrowed in confusion and concern and Dean still doesn’t know how he nabbed the fucker in the first place, but he’s so friggin’ glad he did. Cas leans in for a kiss that tastes like coffee and pulls away only as far as he needs to press a line of kisses along Dean’s jaw. “We don’t need anymore lube,” he murmurs conversationally. “Or toys. Are they... panties? For you?” He pauses. “For me?”
Dean gives a half-hearted laugh. “Uh, nope,” he mutters. “It--It’s stupid.”
He opens his fist and offers the chain and ring wrapped around a sprig of mistletoe.
“It was Mom’s,” Dean says hoarsely. “Just. If you want it.”
Cas is staring.
“Ha, uh. Be real good if you could say something, Cas.”
“This...” Cas cups Dean’s hand in his own. “You want me to have this?”
Dean nods.
“...Are you sure?”
He huffs a soft, disbelieving laugh. “Yeah, Castiel, I’m sure.”
“But I don’t have a ring for you.”
Dean’s pretty sure his heart is gonna make a break for it. “You can get me one,” he says. His palms are sweating and his chest aches and he’s pretty sure no one in the history of ever has loved another person as much as he loves the dumbass clutching at the duvet across from him. “I’ll wear the fuck out of it. But I just, um. I wanted you to have it. As a gift. You know?”
“Oh.” It’s soft, and awed and Dean has a sneaking suspicion that the surprise in Cas’s voice has less to do with the fact that this isn’t really a marriage proposal as much as the fact that he’s shocked Dean wants him to stick around in the first place. A smile creeps across his stupid face until he’s grinning. “Well, I accept. Thank you.”
Inexplicably, Dean feels tears prickle at the corners of his eyes and ducks his head in a nod, fumbling with the clasp as he moves to put the necklace on his--Cas.
He presses a kiss to his neck and pulls away with a beet-red face. “Okay, uh. Cool.”
“Cool,” Cas beams.
“Yeah.”
They both stare at where the ring sits over Cas’s purple t-shirt, touching his breastbone. Cas fingers the metal like he can’t believe it exists and Dean remembers the mistletoe in his hand.
“Oh, hey.” Awkwardly, he lifts his hand over their heads. He wriggles his brows suggestively and Cas rolls his eyes.
“I still think this tradition is ridiculous.”
“Pretty handy right now though, huh?”
Cas scoffs. “As if I need a plant to kiss you.”
He does it anyway; deep and sloppy and wet and like every lazy morning they’ve ever had rolled into one. Jack will eventually find them, and they’ll do breakfast and gifts and then spend the day ruining the kitchen to cook for an army of family and friends. They’ll all crash in front of the TV and leave the dishes for tomorrow. For now, though, Cas pulls away to hug him. To whisper Merry Christmas and thank you like a blessing into Dean’s neck as he squeezes the shit of out him.
“Love you,” Dean breathes, like a prayer.

Umm, wait. It's more a 15x20 rant than an analysis. I'll call it... a ranalysis. 😏
I just saw J*reds last online panel again, where he called the finale "magical full circle storytelling". 15x20 is his "favourite episode ever" because he "is a fan of good storytelling". Uh-huh... Okay. So the following just was built on pure rage. This makes it more of a rant than an analysis. As usual. You guys know me.
Well. There are various possibilities here, Jared. Possibility A is, you are lying, what I do not believe. To lie that obvious you have to be a talented actor, which you are not. Possibility B is, you really think that way. You believe, the finale was "magical full circle storytelling" and you actually loved it, it was indeed your favourite episode. This again brings me to the only conclusion: You have no fucking idea about good storytelling, not even decent storytelling.
Lets look at every single ending, shall we?
Dean. We all know you think Deans death was a "success story." You think that Dean "ultimately gave his life for his number one on planet." I am sitting here, laughing in pain. First of all, let me say that Dean didn't died for Sam, Jared. He didn't took a bullet for Sam or sacrificed himself or whatsoever. He died in the most ridiculous accident I've ever seen. But lets go back to the very start.
Dean’s childhood was highly abusive. Dean was 4 years old when he saw his mother burning alive and learned that monsters are real. In that age he developed PTSD and stopped talking. Dean had a childhood with a father that was an alcoholic and physically and mentally abusive, who had believed that Dean had a “killer instinct". When Dean was about 6 years old, John forced him into a nurturing role for Sam. In the same age Dean was forced into the soldiers role as well when John taught him how to shoot and hunt. Dean had to obey orders without questioning. If he acted “out of line,” (aka something John didn’t like) John chewed him out or left them alone. Dean was trained to be Daddy’s blunt instrument. Dean gave up his own life to keep Sam safe, because he had no other choice. More than a brother Dean had to be a father and a mother to Sam. He suppressed everything, every psychological pain, every emotion, he just lived to protect Sam and to obey as Johns blunt soldier. Short: Dean gave up HIMSELF for Sam and John. Not because Dean wanted to, because he was forced into it! Dean hated himself, he was suicidal. He was convinced he isn’t worthy of anything, especially not being loved. Dean never had a life for his own, never had a choice, never had a chance, never had own original thoughts, never felt safe or loved. He was used to being left. He felt like he was nothing. Worthless. He was dead inside. Broken. You get what I mean, Jared? Since you own a mental health campaign, you should. And guess what Dean did? He kept fighting. Despite everything, he kept fighting. And his mindset slowly changed. He understood that his father was an abusive bastard, he unterstood that he was forced into a life he never wanted. He understood that he is more than that, that he is not like John. He changed. He opened up. He even wanted to retire. And now it gets interesting, because something happened that REALLY is the start of magical full circle storytelling. Something in Deans mind clicked while Cas' confession. His confession was fundamental to Dean to finally accept his own goodness and the value of his life and love, of his identity. It was the moment of breaking free of the structure that had controlled and corrupted him his entire life. It was the only way out of his abusive and traumatizing cage to experience something for his own the very first time. For the first time in his life he had a chance. A choice. The start of his very own life. Free will, baby! Well, no. Because exactly in that moment he stumbled into a nail and died. Do you even realize how dumb this is? Do you even realize what you did? Wait, it gets worse. Yeah, that's possible, even if you dont believe it. In heaven he goes right back to the life he has spent his whole journey learning to free himself from: Left only with the persons he had been forced, time and time again, to sacrifice his identity, goals, and soul for. None of the family, support, or love, nothing he has built or chosen for himself remains. This is not magical full circle storytelling, Jared. This is abysmal pointless butchering. This has NOTHING, not a single percent of magical or good storytelling! YOU call that magical? YOU call that a success? Seriously, what shit are you on? If it would've been full circle storytelling, there is not one single fucking possibility that Dean would've died in the end. I don't know whats going on in your twisted brain, but Deans death never was and never will be a success. To make it magical full circle storytelling, he MUST have been the one who survives and overcomes his trauma (and raise a certain someone from perdition.)
Sam. He's actually the one who kinda got the best ending, huh? I mean, it was fucking horrific, but it was the best if you compare it to the others. When Sam was young, he wanted a normal life far away from hunting, while the truth is, Sam always was more like John than Dean ever will be. Over time his mindset clearly changed. He even said: "When Dean came to get me at school, I told myself, one last job, you know, (...) it was always one more job and then I was gonna go back to law and to my life. I guess, I really understand now that THIS is my life. And I love it." Sam couldn't imagine a normal life anymore. He had the chances for that and he declined. He loved hunting. He loved working and making progress with the BMOL, he very much enjoyed being a MOL and even took the lead often. I can clearly picture Sam as the lead of a rebuilt version of the MOL, that would've made sense. What did Sam get? Right, the ending he didn't wanted anymore, but since we yeet every single development of every single character out of the window, Sam has to be Season 1 Sam again, BUT with a fancy party wig! And there he is! And what a happy life he lives, exactly what he wanted, woohoo! So much joy, so much fun! Oh look, there is BlurryWife™, who Jared made sure is not Eileen, because “Dean wouldn’t want Sam to be with Eileen”. But wait, didn't Dean wanted Sam to be with Eileen? Didn't Dean literally said: "If it was to work, Eileen, you know... She gets it, she gets us, she gets the life. You could do worse. And she could certainly do better, like SO much better. I'm happy for you, Sammy." Yeah, NO. This was just a writing AND acting AND producing mistake and had no matter at all. *cough* So... As you can see, magical storytelling strikes again. I can feel the magic, I can feel the full circle, it's... Amazing...
Castiel. Castiels story was magical, it was mindblowing. I've never in my entire life seen such a meaningful and deep storyline and I mean this. It's fucking massive. There is this blunt angel soldier, one of the post powerful forces, who was built to blindly obey, who lived for aeons of years, who wasn't supposed to feel anything, but he fell for a broken, suicidal, abused human who never felt loved or worthy the very moment he touched him. He fell so hard he rebelled against his own race, against his own family, against everything he had without any safety. He was the ONLY one in Chuck-knows-how-many universes who GREW outside of Chucks CONTROL! His love was so fucking massive, it couldn't be controlled by the God who built every-fucking-thing. Chuck built millions(?) of parallel universes, heaven, hell, life, death, purgatory, the empty, he created every single being, the light, darkness, every single angel, demon, leviathan, monster, animal, plant, sea, blade of grass, every centimeter of mountains, the four seasons, emotions, what the fuck ever. Everything you can ever think of, Chuck created it. And he controlled it. In every single one of his fucking millions of universes. But not Castiel. This is actually not possible. You can't outrun god. You can't outrun the one who creates, writes and controlles everything. But Cas did. Out of love. And not only that, you also imply that what happened between Dean and Cas was the only thing  that was real. Everything else was corrupted, controlled, manipulated, written by Chuck. But what happened between Dean and Cas, he couldn't affect.
Seeing Cas standing there, crying, confessing his love to Dean actually even makes me think that Dean made Cas human. Dean completed Cas. Cas didn't simply said "I love you", he actually said "In all existing universes, in all millions, all aeons of years, you are my only happiness." And Cas completed Dean. He freed Dean. While Dean was used to being left, was used to feeling worthless and unlovable, Cas saw Dean exactly the way he is and chose to stay. With every obstacle, every difficulty he loved him even more and yes, freed him from the abusive structure that had controlled and corrupted him his entire life. Something that no one else could, not his parents, not Amara, not God, not even Sam. Beautiful, isn't it? Unique. Mindblowing. Pure. You enjoyed it? Let's fuck this up in 3...2...1...
Castiels story ended exactly the same way it started. A blunt angel who doesn't care about people and feelings, blindly carrying out instructions from a new God, obeying heaven. No progress. They threw away 12 years of character development and managed to give him the same stupid and senseless ending like they did with Dean. Dean died and Cas... Wasn't there?! WHAT!? There is no single fucking way Cas wouldn't save Dean or wouldn't be there when Dean enters heaven! There. Is. No. Fucking. Way! The way they represented Cas in the end doesn't only imply that Dean isn't important to Cas anymore, he even ended up exactly the same way as if Season 4-15 wouldn't have happened. The ending is exactly the same! He's with God in heaven, supporting him with instructions, not caring about anything else.
Okay, I got it. Summarizing you can say: Jareds "magical full circle storytelling" is to yeet 95% of the past 15 years. No other characters matter, the story itself doesn't matter, every single characters development doesn't matter, it even doesn't matter what the brothers really want, they don't get it anyway.
Okay. But that's not all. As if this wasn't bad enough, they didn't just butchered ... EVERYTHING, they also salted and burnt every single Mantra they ever stood for. I'll make these short, I promise!
Team Free Will. *snort* Dean couldn't escape his fate, he always believed he'll die on a hunt as Daddys blunt instrument and he did. He kept fighting to die exactly the way he felt he was "supposed to". Message? No matter how hard you keep fighting, no matter how long you'll keep it up, you can't escape your fate. Sam couldn't change his fate, he ended how he started. Cas couldn't change his fate, he ended how he started, same for Jack, he ended how he was supposed to. YEET THE FREE WILL, NONE OF THEM CAN CHANGE ANYTHING!
Family don't end with  blood. The biggest lie that has ever been told. Do I even have to explain that? No need, right? Don't make me wanna throw up again, please. We all know that 15x20 blasted "Family don't end with blood" in millions of pieces.
Always keep fighting. THE AUDACITY to praise that while Dean is dying! After everything Dean has dealt with, It makes me wanna scream. Dean kept fighting, he always kept fighting, no matter how hard it was, no matter what forced him to his knees, he stood up again, and if he wasn't able to stand up, he crawled. He kept fighting no matter what, despite everything. His mindset changed. He wanted to live, he wanted to experience things, feelings and people differently or even for the first time. He changed. He wanted to retire, toes in the sand. He knew he earned it. Thats why he kept fighting. For what? To die the very first moment he had a free will. To die the very first moment he had a choice, had a life to build for himself. Always keep fighting, but the moment you come close to what you want, what you fought for, you die. It's been more than 3 months and I am having tears in my eyes while typing this. As for Dean, no matter how hard you fight, no matter how long you fight, you don't reach what you deserve anyway. Give up. As for Sam, AKF leeds to Emptiness. Grief. Psychological Trauma. Mental illness. Absolutely nothing worth fighting for.
I wanna go cry now, bye.

Suptober Day 4- Secrets
Saccharine and Secret
Dean is keeping a secret, a big one, and he hopes that this is the one and only time he’s keeping a secret from Castiel. Because the guy is making it nearly impossible, he was far to attune to Dean’s routine. He noticed when Dean started to slip away every evening for a few moments to the room at the far corner of the bunker, the furthest away from their bedroom. Dean had made sure to choose that room to keep his secret in, knowing Cas was unlikely to go into the room full of old files.
“Where have you been?” Cas asks softly, setting the book he’d been reading on the bed side table and patting the spot on the bed next to him.
“You’ll find out soon enough, don’t you worry.” Dean smiles, sitting next to his angel and giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. He sighs when Cas furrows his brows in reply and studies him carefully as if he will be able to extract the secret from Dean’s mind. Matter of fact, he might be able to. Dean hopes he can’t.
“All I do is worry about you.” Cas sighs heavily, gently cupping Dean’s cheek with his hand and leaning in to kiss his forehead.
“You don’t have to this time. I promise it’s a not anything dangerous or at least not most of the time.” Dean chuckles, thinking about the secret tucked away in the room. He needs to show Cas soon, maybe in the morning.
“Alright, well, you be careful, I love you, you’re precious cargo.” Cas resigns, tucking Dean in securely under the covers.
“Aww you think I’m precious?” Dean grins, batting his lashes at Cas exaggeratedly.
“Don’t push it.” Cas warns, turning off the light before settling in with Dean laying his head on his chest.
“You don’t have to stay here all night, you know? I know angels don’t sleep.” Dean yawns.
“I want to. Now go to sleep you pest.” Cas says lovingly, pressing his fingers to Dean’s temple and using his grace to lull him into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Dean awakes to an empty bed, he follows clanging sounds down the hall to the kitchen. Cas is busy attempting to make pancakes while Sam watches, his eyebrows raised in amusement.
“Good morning! I’m making breakfast!” Cas says proudly. Dean really needs to show him his secret after breakfast, because if a wave of celestial intent making food he does eat isn’t love, he doesn’t know what is. He deserves to see his secret.
Dean eats the pancakes without restrain, shoveling them into his mouth and ignoring Sam’s disgusted expression which deepens when Cas kisses Dean in full view, syrup on his chin and all. Dean just grins proudly pulls Cas into his lap.
“Get a room!” Sam groans, sipping the last bit of his green smoothie, and he thinks he has the right to look at Dean like he’s the disgusting one. What a bitch.
“Actually, matter of fact. I have a room I’d like to show you.” Dean says to Cas who gives him an adorably confused head tilt.
“Gross.” Sam says with a roll of his eyes.
“Shuddup Sammy. You’re just jealous because you miss Eileen!” Dean preens, patting Cas’ hip so he would stand up and then joining him, hand in hand.
“Run.” Dean smirks, all mirth and mischief as he pulls Cas out of the kitchen, Sam half-heartedly chasing them half way down the hall before giving up.
“You’re the worst!” Sam calls after them, Dean all but giggling as he leads Cas to the room that holds his secret.
“Okay, so I have something to show you. I was trying to wait, to make this an anniversary gift but I can’t wait!” Dean says excitedly, hand on the door knob, his secret moments away from being revealed.
“Oh, it’s a gift.” Cas sighs in relief, visibly relaxing.
“Yeah what did you think, I was brining you to my secret opium den or something?” Dean teases, rubbing Cas’ back.
“I wasn’t sure what to think. Can never tell with you. You keep life, interesting.” Cas shrugs, pecking Dean’s lips as he opens the door, revealing a small black kitten waiting on the other side.
“Surprise!” Dean beams, feeling a swell of pride when Cas immediately bursts into happy tears, picking up the kitten and cooing over it as he cuddles it to his chest.
“Dean! This is wonderful, I love them. You got me a cat! But you said you were sort of allergic, didn’t you?” Cas rambles, sitting on the floor and letting the kitten curl up in his lap.
“Well after Jack and Claire taught you about Tik Tok,” Dean pauses rolling his eyes at the memory of the two teens helping Castiel, eldritch terror turned certified dorky dad, download the app. “I noticed you were watching lots of cat videos and that they make you light up. I love seeing you that happy. So, I figured, if your grace can cure cancer and things like that, why not my allergies.” Dean shrugs, sitting on the floor next to Cas.
“This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.” Cas wells up again, holding the kitten to his chest and giving Dean a long slow kiss.
“You deserve it and more.” Dean says honestly, petting the kitten’s soft ears and then kissing Castiel back lovingly. He chuckles as the kitten paws at his jaw, trying to push him back from Cas.
“Looks like I have competition. Good thing he’s cute.” Dean hums, sitting back and watching fondly as Cas kisses the kitten on the head.
“He, it’s a boy?” Cas asks curiously, nuzzling his nose against the kitten’s soft black fur.
“Yup, what are you going to name him?” Dean ventures to ask, resting a hand on Cas’ thigh, ignoring the fact that his eyes were itching like crazy, his allergies could wait.
“I think maybe Shiloh. It means peace. Because being with you and with him brings me peace.” Cas says decisively, making Dean’s heart swell with joy.
“Being with you brings me peace too, babe. Happy anniversary.” Dean says softly, resting their foreheads together.
They spend the rest of the day with Shiloh, setting up all the kitten supplies Dean had been hiding in the file room. It’s all painfully domestic which is what Dean wants, which is why he still has an even bigger secret right under Cas’ nose.
Cas has yet to find it, the gold ring Dean had tucked into the pocket of his trench coat with a little note attached in simple script reading “marry me?”

Spoilers for Season 15x20 finale
Summary: This is a semi-rewrite of episode 15x20...
Pairing: Dean x reader (reader is treated more like an OC than a typical reader)
Word Count: 2,000ish
Warnings: language, major 15x20 spoilers
A/N: I wrote this for myself honestly. I know it is idealistic and was never going to happen. Again, I’m sharing simply if you’re interested but please feel free to ignore. This picks up from a very obvious point in the episode...
______
Dean POV
“Fuck,” said Dean, his hand over his chest. Something big was stabbing into his back. This felt wrong though. A dull, achy pain trickled up and down his spine and across his chest. His heart was racing up and slowing down when it wanted and Dean shut his eyes as he recognized the feeling in his bones.
He was dying. The kind of dying a doctor can’t fix.
“Jack!” shouted Sam, Dean peeling open his eyes as he realized Sam was besides him, hand covered in blood. A few seconds later Jack appeared in front of them eating a bar of nougat. “Jack fix him. Please.”
“He said he was hands off,” said Dean with a wince, his whole body shaking. Jack cocked his head and walked over, touching Dean’s forehead. The next thing he knew, Dean was sat on the ground and taking a deep breath, the pain gone as he looked up. “You said you were hands off.”
“You’re my dads. Why wouldn’t I help you?” he asked, a confused look on his face. Dean chuckled and nodded, still holding onto his chest. “You seem upset. I’ll pop you guys home.”
“Kid there’s-”
“Those boys are okay,” said Jack, snapping his fingers. Dean was suddenly sat on the steps up into the library, Jack mentioning something about taking some nougat from the pantry before he headed out.
“You alright?” asked Sam. Dean shook his head and he took a seat. Dean rubbed the heel of his palm against his chest and shuddered. “Jack got there in time.”
“If he hadn’t-”
“Dean-”
“If he hadn’t...because it was bad, Sammy. If he hadn’t...I’m so proud of you and I love you, so fucking much. I couldn’t have asked for a better baby brother, a better best friend. You just gotta tell me something. When the time comes, you’ll be okay without me. Tell me Sam. Please.”
“I’ll be okay,” said Sam quietly. Dean nodded and moved his hand to his lap, Sam scooting closer. “Let’s get out of here.”
“What?”
“Let’s get a house. We can get a big yard for Miracle. Run an operation like Bobby did, do the occasional case. Let’s go live more,” said Sam. Dean paused but rubbed his chest again and smiled.
“Dibs on the master bedroom,” said Dean. Sam chuckled and nodded. “Yeah. This place is home but I wouldn’t mind an upgrade.”
Two Months Later
“Miracle!” called Dean when he ignored the ball Dean had just thrown across the yard and ran around the corner of the house. “Miracle!”
“I think your daddy’s looking for you,” Dean heard a voice giggle. He walked around the house and saw a woman knelt down and ruffling the dog. “You’re so cute. You’re so cute.”
“Yes, I am,” smirked Dean as the woman popped her head up. “So, how can I help you and why are you parked in my driveway?”
“I’m Y/N. Y/N-”
“I heard of you. Hunter out of Alaska right?” he asked as she nodded. “You work a lot of Canada cases.”
“I did,” she said with a shrug. “I was thinking of retiring down south. Wondering if you got any tips on how to adjust.”
“A dog helps,” he said and she smiled, Dean looking her up and down. “You do realize this is Austin, Texas right?”
“This is south to me,” she said. “I know Donna through a friend of a friend. She said it’d be cool if I came and talked to you?”
“Uh, yeah, sure,” said Dean, Miracle running over to the ball and rushing back with it. He nudged Dean’s hand and Y/N smiled. “You mind chatting while we do some fetch?”
“Not at all, Winchester.”
“Kinda funny how Eileen and Y/N know each other,” said Sam, Dean looking out the back window to where the girls and Miracle were sat on the back deck after dinner drinking a beer. Dean hummed and dried a plate, Sam nudging his arm. “You like her, don’t you.”
“You like her.”
“Dean.”
“Yeah, I like her. What’s the big deal?”
“Oh, I don’t know. A gorgeous, former hunter with your kind of humor, love for pie, muscle cars and classic rock that’s single just happens to have stuck around long after she got done talking to you.”
“I invited her to dinner.”
“She understands the life Dean. All the shit we carry. You’ve never tried with a hunter. Give her a chance.”
“Tried what?” said Dean, putting the plate in the cupboard.
“You can have a relationship Dean. I’m pretty sure she likes you too,” said Sam.
“Hello, Dean,” said Castiel, both guys jumping as they spun around. They stared at the angel as Cas looked around. “I enjoy your home. The air is fragrant.”
“It’s a candle,” said Sam, pointing to the flickering light on the countertop. He blew it out and Dean walked around the island, shaking his head.
“Where the fuck have you been?” said Dean, giving Cas a hug. Sam joined them and Castiel shrugged.
“Rebuilding heaven is labor intensive process,” said Cas before turning to Dean. “I felt you would be coming there soon a few months ago.”
“Why didn’t you pop down when you knew he was dying?” asked Sam.
“You are humans,” said Cas with a pout. “You will die someday. It’s an inevitable fact. Time is very strange in heaven in its relation to earth. I assumed you were an old man.”
“No, not old,” said Dean.
“Would you two like for me to prevent your deaths until a certain age?” asked Cas.
“No,” they both said, Dean smiling.
“But if we ask for help, you will help?” asked Dean.
“Always,” said Castiel. He tilted his head and looked out the back window. “Who is the woman with Eileen?”
“Y/N. Hunter from the Yukon area. Dean has a crush,” said Sam. He smirked when Dean whacked his arm, Cas still cocking his head. “You know her?”
“She’s quite drawn to Dean. Metaphysically speaking.”
“Yes cause whatever you just said was very clear. Like I’m five Cas,” said Dean. Cas sighed and pursed his lips.
“Jack has given me some extra power to help assist him better. I can see more of a person now,” said Cas. “Their energy, soul, things of that nature.”
“Okay...so what does that mean?” asked Dean.
“Oh your souls are quite intertwined. She’s your soulmate,” said Cas.
“Really?” said Dean, allowing a brief smile to cross his face.
“She also has a growing inoperable mass in her head that will kill her in the next few years. She suffers from headaches quite frequently,” said Cas. Dean sat down at the counter and stared out the back door, squeezing his eyes shut.
“Why can’t I be happy?” he breathed out. “For a fucking minute I can’t even be happy before the rug gets pulled out.”
“...Did you not want me to heal her?” asked Cas. Dean rolled his eyes and Cas’ glowed blue for a moment. “She’s fine now. You seem...emotional.”
“Well I am Cas,” said Dean.
“You’ve been off since that hunt and the barn,” said Sam.
“Sam I shouldn’t be alive,” said Dean. “I got lucky.”
“You have sacrificed your entire life for others, Dean,” said Cas, Sam taking a seat next to Dean. “You should take advantage of your powerful friends. Let others care for you now. I will speak to Jack about the remaining monsters and their relocation to somewhere better suited for them, perhaps a new world.”
“Everything alright?” asked Y/N, slipping in through the back door with an empty beer bottle.
“Yeah, we’re all good,” said Sam.
“Liar,” she said, smiling at Dean. “I’ll be right back.”
She excused herself to the bathroom, Sam and Cas going outside. Dean got another set of beers out just in time for Y/N to return.
“Can I ask you a question?” she said.
“Shoot,” said Dean, handing her the drink.
“Your friend, the angel, did he just heal me? I’ve had constant headaches for awhile now. Brain tumor. I feel different. You guys wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with that would you?”
“You deserve to enjoy your retirement,” he said. “A very long retirement. You’re fine now.”
“I won’t be mad about that,” she said, leaning against the counter by him. She took a long sip and smiled. “I like you, Dean.”
“I like you,” he said.
“I’m gonna stick around town for a bit, see if things work out,” she said. He nodded and smiled, watching her smirk. “So there’s really no more monsters?”
“Uh, what?”
“I overheard Castiel when I walked in. Guess we’re really out of jobs now,” you said.
“I got an offer for a construction manager,” he said.
“You gonna take it?” she asked.
“I think so. What do you think?” he asked.
“I think it’s a great idea,” she said. “Gotta keep busy somehow.”
“What’s your retirement look like?” he asked. She shrugged and smiled. “Now that death isn’t imminent.”
“Maybe I’ll find a guy, try the domestic thing,” she said, a soft smile staying on her lips. “Know anyone who might be interested?”
“I’m sure I can think of someone, sweetheart.”
One Year Later
“So what do you think?” asked Sam as he spun around in his suit in the family room.
“What do we think junior?” asked Dean, the baby on his lap clapping his hands. “He says dad’s gonna score tonight.”
“I fear for you teaching my son things when he’s a teenager,” chuckled Sam.
“That’s what Uncles are for,” said Dean as Y/N got up from the couch and started fixing Sam’s tie.
“And what Aunt’s are for to rein them in,” she said, smoothing it out.
“Thank you,” said Sam. “Hey, when you two gonna have a kid?”
“Who says we aren’t?” smirked Dean. Sam went wide eyed and she rolled hers.
“We’re trying just recently. You will literally be the first to know once we do,” she said. She winked and Sam narrowed his eyes, looking back and forth between them then down to her stomach.
“You’re so pregnant.”
“Ugh, we were gonna surprise you guys. Let us surprise, Eileen at least,” she said.
“You guys are pregnant!” said Eileen from over the balcony upstairs. Y/N laughed and headed up, Sam taking a seat next to Dean and plucking his son into his arms.
“You’re gonna be a real good dad. You got a lot of practice,” said Sam. Dean shrugged and Sam gave him a side hug. “I’m really happy he gets to know his Uncle, Dean. You’re gonna do great.”
“I’m really happy I get to be here too,” said Dean. He sat back and shut his eyes. “I owe you one.”
“For what?”
“The barn. I thought Jack wouldn’t come. I didn’t even bother. I thought that was gonna be it,” said Dean. “I didn’t want to go yet.”
“You don’t owe me for that,” said Sam, handing the baby back when he heard feet on the stairs. “Be good for Uncle Dean, baby boy.”
“Go have fun on your date, Sammy,” said Dean.
“You have fun on your stay at home date,” chuckled Sam. “See ya later, De.”
“Later, Sammy.”

Since Castiel is living in the bunker full-time now, Dean is making it his mission to show Castiel all of his favorite movies. Castiel doesn’t mind, but he is concerned he is taking away Dean’s time. Castiel hasn’t seen Heather in a while, and whenever Eileen and Sam bring up hanging out with her again, Dean says something dismissive. Castiel’s fears of hindering Dean’s life are coming true.
Castiel is reading in the Dean Cave when Dean finds him. Dean flops beside him on the couch hard enough to interrupt Castiel’s reading. Castiel stares up in exasperation, and Dean is grinning mischievously back.
“Yes, Dean?”
“Wanna watch a movie?”
Castiel returns his attention to his book and pretends to read. “Why don’t you ask Heather this time? We’ve seen plenty.”
Dean is silent for a moment. “We broke up.”
Castiel jerks his head back up. Oh, no. This isn’t his fault, is it? Castiel hopes that Dean hadn’t been taking too much time with him that he pushed Heather away. “Oh, Dean. I’m sorry.”
Dean shrugs. “Yeah, it’s fine. It just wasn’t working out, so, you know.”
“It wasn’t…because of me, right?”
Dean’s eyes widen, and his entire body stiffens. “Uh, what?”
“I know you’ve been spending a lot of time with me since my injury. You know you can still spend time with her, Dean. You don’t have to be by my side every day.”
Dean relaxes. “No, dude, it’s not that at all. We broke up before that.”
Castiel frowns in confusion. “You…did?”
“Yeah. We’re still friends and hang out sometimes. She’s a great Hunter too, so I don’t mind inviting her on Hunts, but we haven’t been together for a while.”
“Oh.” Castiel doesn’t know what to think.
“So, uh, do you want to watch a movie? Or did that kill the mood?”
Castiel smiles. “I’d love to watch a movie.”
- - - -
“How did you find me?” Castiel asks when Dean returns with a few DVDs.
“Huh?” Dean asks as he walks over to the DVD player.
“When I went to Heaven’s gate. How did you find me?”
“I tracked your phone,” Dean replies casually as he puts a DVD inside the player.
Castiel frowns. “Why?”
Dean turns around and shrugs. “I dunno. I just had a weird feeling about you.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah,” Dean says as he sits next to Castiel. Their legs are touching. “I get that way with Sam too. I get this weird like, not nausea, but heaviness in the pit of my stomach when something is wrong with you guys or one of you is in danger. I don’t really know how to describe it. Or why I feel it.”
Castiel is staring at him now. “That’s interesting.”
Dean chuckles and scratches the back of his neck. “Yeah, I guess.” He turns his attention to the television. “Anyway, I stole Sam’s Harry Potter DVDs, so we can watch some since you haven’t technically watched any of the movies.”
“Does Sam know about this?”
“Nope.” Dean looks back at Castiel with a pointed look. “And he won’t know.”
Castiel rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling.
- - - -
“Cas.”
Castiel doesn’t remember falling asleep, but Dean is waking him up. He blinks a few times, his eyes slowly focusing on Dean.
And Dean is staring at him with this…look. It’s open and soft, and Dean has this tender smile on his lips Castiel rarely sees. It’s startling, and Castiel can’t help but stare back.
Dean’s smile grows. “Hey.”
“I fell asleep,” Castiel states stupidly.
Amusement lights in Dean’s eyes, and he shifts closer. “Yeah. It was kinda cute.”
Castiel is not cute. But his cheeks heat up in embarrassment, and his heart does all sorts of acrobatics within his chest at the idea of Dean calling him cute. Dean is very close now, and it’s as if every cell in Castiel’s body is aware of it, and he can feel Dean’s body heat in striking intensity. Their legs are still touching, and everything inside Castiel is screaming for more.
Whenever this happened when Castiel was an angel, he would summon his grace to tamper his feelings down. Dean had always been able to overwhelm him, but he at least had a way to manage it. Now he doesn’t, and he has no clue how to deal with this.
Dean must see this and frowns. “You okay?”
Castiel is not okay, and he begins to panic. “Yes,” he lies.
Dean’s frown deepens.
Foolishly, Castiel continues, “I’m a bit overwhelmed.”
“With what?”
His mouth is saying things his brain is barely processing. “Uh, you—we’re very close.”
“We are,” Dean says coolly. “Is it bothering you?”
“No,” Castiel answers the second Dean finishes speaking.
Dean raises his eyebrows, and he looks…surprised.
As if this should be a surprise. Castiel has always enjoyed Dean’s presence, and he hasn’t exactly kept it a secret. Sometimes Castiel whips himself up into thinking Dean knows about his feelings for him because of this.
Dean licks his lips, and Castiel is instantly drawn to the movement. He realizes he’s staring at Dean’s lips and looks back up. Dean is watching. Castiel blushes furiously.
Dean did that on purpose.
Dean leans in the slightest bit closer. “Cas…”
Sam bursts into the room. “Dean!”
Dean jerks back from Castiel like he’s been slapped.
Sam continues, “Did you steal my DVDs?”
- - - -
What the hell was that? Castiel asks himself for the millionth time that night.
He’s lying in bed now, replaying today’s events in his head. The soft way Dean had been smiling at him. Their extremely close proximity. Dean calling him cute. Dean’s lips. The gentle way Dean had said his name before Sam came into the room.
Had Dean meant to lick his lips like that? And if he did, had he wanted to kiss Castiel? Does Dean still want to kiss him? And if he does, does he want to kiss Castiel because he’s horny, or because he…?
Castiel stops that thought. He can’t go there. He can’t give himself false hope.
But the way Dean had leaned in…
Castiel groans and grabs his pillow, pulling it over his face. Maybe this will block his thoughts.
It works for maybe three seconds before the image of Dean’s lips fills his mind.
Castiel throws his pillow across the room and painfully sits up. He’s been more mindful of his stitches since the Hunt, but he can’t sleep. Not tonight. He runs his hands through his hair but is only reminded of when Dean did it before he stitched Castiel up after the Hunt.
Castiel sighs in annoyance. Falling in love is so inconvenient.
Perhaps some tea will calm him down.
He steps out of bed and shuffles across the room. He opens his door and heads for the kitchen but freezes when he gets there.
Dean is sitting in the kitchen in front of an open laptop drinking a glass of whiskey. They lock eyes.
“Hey,” Dean greets before turning his attention back to his laptop.
“Hello,” Castiel answers and heads towards the tea.
“Can’t sleep either, huh?”
“Afraid not.”
The silence is deafening.
Castiel plugs in the electric kettle and turns it on. He grabs a bag of tea out of the box then he opens the cabinet with the mugs and winces as it squeaks. He grabs the mug the Winchesters never use and sets it on the counter, placing the teabag inside.
Without looking up from his laptop, Dean asks, “How are ya feelin’?”
Castiel turns to face him and shrugs. He absently places a hand over his wound. “Fine.”
“Yeah?” Dean glances over at Castiel, and his gaze flicks over him as if he doesn’t believe him.
“Yeah,” Castiel repeats.
“Good. That’s good.” Dean grimaces then takes a long sip of whiskey.
“How are you feeling?” Castiel asks.
“Fine.”
Castiel rolls his eyes. Someone who feels fine isn’t drinking whiskey at 3:30am. So he says, “Yeah?” just like Dean did a few seconds ago.
“Ye—” Dean begins then realizes it’s the same exact conversation as before. He looks back at Castiel.
Castiel raises his eyebrows, and Dean smiles the slightest bit. It makes Castiel feel a little better.
Dean shakes his head, but his smile doesn’t waver. “You’re a dork.”
Castiel knows what a dork is but pretends he doesn’t. “Thank you.”
Dean’s smile grows, and he rolls his eyes.
The kettle chimes, signaling the water is ready. Castiel pours it into his mug and walks over to Dean. He sits beside him, wrapping his hands around the mug. Castiel finds the heat comforting.
“Looking for a Hunt?” Castiel asks.
“Yeah.” Dean doesn’t look at him and takes another sip of whiskey.
Castiel sighs. “Dean, what’s wrong?”
Dean lazily scrolls through a news article. “Nothing.”
Castiel stares at him, hoping to make him uncomfortable enough to meet his gaze.
Dean continues to scroll before huffing. He turns. “What?”
“Something’s wrong.” It’s not a question this time.
Dean rolls his eyes and turns his attention back to his laptop. He clicks on another article and starts scrolling again. Eventually, he says, “Did I fuck things up?”
“What do you mean?”
“Between us. Did I fuck things up between us?”
“How could you do that?”
Dean turns to him fully this time. He studies Castiel. For a moment, he’s open. Searching Castiel for something. Castiel isn’t sure what. He must find it—or not—because Castiel can see the moment Dean’s walls come back up. “Never mind.”
“Dean.”
“I said never mind!”
Castiel glares. Still holding his mug, he stands up. His chair scrapes loudly. “Goodnight.”
He quickly walks back to his room and closes the door too loudly. He places his tea on his nightstand and gets into bed. He cries.
- - - -
Of course Sam isn’t here.
Castiel thinks it’s time to remove some of his stitches, but he can’t do it. He Googled “when do you know it’s time to remove stitches?”, and he’s pretty sure it’s time. He even looked up videos on how to do it, but after removing the first three and making himself bleed—not like in the videos at all—he realized he needs help.
But Sam is gone. Which means he needs to ask Dean.
Things have been cold between them. Castiel isn’t quite sure what happened that night he went to make tea, but now they hardly talk. Sam even asked what they’re fighting about. Dean had immediately said, “Nothing.” Castiel is just confused. And angry at Dean for being childish, so Castiel doesn’t mind being petty right back. And maybe that’s the problem.
Castiel stares at himself in the mirror. His hair is unkempt, and there are bags under his eyes. He can tell he’s lost weight, and blood is running down his abdomen where he’s messed up removing his stitches. He’s a mess. He hates that he’s human. He can’t do anything by himself.
With a frustrated huff, he grabs the first-aid kit and stomps over to Dean’s room. He doesn’t even knock before opening the door. If he sees something unseemly, he hopes Dean gets embarrassed.
Dean is laying on his bed with his headphones in but jolts up the second Castiel bursts in. Dean snatches the headphones off his head, his eyes snapping to Castiel’s stomach.
“Take out my stitches,” Castiel demands, because it’s easier than asking.
Dean glares. “What if I don’t.”
Castiel glares back. “Then I will rip them all out.”
They continue to glare at each other, but the longer they do, the more exposed Castiel feels. He’s standing shirtless in Dean’s room, his wound—his biggest weakness—out on display. He remembers how he looked in the mirror just seconds before and knows that’s what Dean is seeing. He’s pathetic.
Castiel can feel tears coming, and Dean cannot see him cry. Without warning, he turns and heads back to his room. He angrily slams the first-aid kit onto his sink. He pops it open and grabs the tweezers. He glares down at his stitches. He sees a longer one and lines up the tweezers.
A hand snatches them away.
Dean grabs Castiel’s shoulder, spinning him, so his lower back digs into the sink. Castiel aims a glare Dean’s way. He can’t manhandle him like this! But Dean sinks to his knees, and Castiel’s brain short-circuits and only comes back online when Dean pulls the first stitch out.
Dean doesn’t say a word as he works. His face is still rigid, and anger lingers in his eyes, but his hands are steady and gentle. He doesn’t make Castiel bleed.
Guilt settles into Castiel’s stomach. He shouldn’t have been so petulant, demanding Dean take care of him like a helpless child. Castiel is a grown man—older than all men—and he should be able to take care of himself. But he can’t. Castiel attempts to swallow down the frustrated lump that’s grown in his throat. It doesn’t really work.
There’s a more intricate stitch, and Dean bites his lower lip in concentration. Fondness swells in Castiel’s chest, and he has to look away.
He glares at the wall. Being in love with Dean Winchester is the worst thing ever.
But Castiel wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Dean shifts below him, and Castiel looks back down. Dean’s moved in a bit closer, studying the remaining stitches intently. His left hand rests on Castiel’s abdomen just above his jeans. His hand is warm and smooth. Dean’s other hand lightly traces over Castiel’s stitches. Arousal strikes through Castiel like lightning, and he immediately fixes his gaze back at the wall. He cannot allow himself to feel this. Not now. Not when Dean is right there.
As an angel, squashing baser urges such as lust was easy. His grace could wash it away with a cool, light feeling, until the urge was nothing more than a small itch. But now, Castiel can’t stop it. He can’t stop how badly he wants Dean.
As a human, Castiel has been able to manage his desires how most humans do: masturbation. Thinking about Dean usually does the trick. He often wonders how the Hunter’s hands would feel. Now he knows how warm and firm they really are. Castiel thinks about Dean’s lips often too. How they’d taste. How’d they feel kissing and sucking on other parts of his body. He wonders if Dean likes things fast or slow. He’s thought about both when—
Dean pulls another stitch out.
Shit, shit, shit!
Castiel’s heart is pounding. How could he allow himself to go down that path of thinking? It’s too late now. The lust is hot and burning within him. And Dean’s going to know soon. Very soon.
Castiel snatches both of Dean’s wrists and yanks them off of him.
Dean looks up in alarm and opens his mouth to say something, but Castiel speaks first, “I can do the rest.” He can hear the rising panic in his own voice, but forces the coolest gaze he can down at Dean. His heart is racing wildly.
“What?” Dean looks completely confused. He glances back at Castiel’s stomach, still only a few inches away from his face, bringing another wave of desire crashing through Castiel. “I’m almost done.”
“No. I’ll do them.”
“Cas, are you okay?”
Dean needs to leave. Now. Castiel glares. “Do I need to repeat myself? Goodbye, Dean.” He continues to glare, hoping Dean gets the message.
Dean stands up and returns Castiel’s glare. “I don’t know why you’re being like this! You asked me for help.”
Castiel doesn’t have a good response, so he continues to glare silently.
Dean scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Unbelievable,” he mutters as he storms out of the room. He slams the door on the way out.
Castiel breathes out a shaky breath in relief and presses his palms into his eyes. That was close. Way too close. He needs to get it together. He takes a few more breaths to collect himself before scowling down at his crotch. That thing really does have a mind of its own. Dean left just in time.
Castiel decides to take care of it right away, and it’s the fastest he’s ever orgasmed.

so Dean owns an apple orchard.
his property is pretty big, big enough to fit his precious orchard, a modest little house for himself, Sam, and Eileen, and a converted barn with a front porch he installed himself that he uses as his business front. the barn doors are always open, and there's a wall full of fridges filled with jugs of his apple cider and frozen premade pastries and pies, ready to get popped in the oven. there's a whole bakery case dedicated to the pies he bakes daily, all kinds of flavors made with home grown berries and apples. there's another bakery case for the rest of the pastries he makes, the fritters and turnovers and cookies and everything. the rest of the barn is filled with little displays for crafts. Dean likes to whittle and carve in his free time, and if he makes something he likes enough he'll pop an affordable price tag on it and stick it on one of the shelves. Eileen has decided to sell some of her handpainted signs and those weird little apple core dolls she likes to make. she and Sam like to help out at the store, working behind the counters while Dean bakes or helps people with the apple picking tools.
Dean uses his apples to make his own apple pies, apple fritters, apple turnovers, even apple cookies when he's feeling it. he's attempted apple donuts as well, but those never turn out as delicious as the main orchard's do, so he doesn't do those often. he also presses his own fresh apple cider, and he keeps a giant igloo cooler full of it on the porch with a stack of paper cups next to it so people can taste test. there's a sign next to it that says "one cup per person" but he always turns a blind eye when the kids come back for seconds or thirds.
Dean's orchard is one that's included on the local map of orchards and farms that people go crazy over every fall and make the drive to visit for their yearly fix of all things apple and pumpkin. during the peak season he joins in on the festivities and lets some of his friends set up their craft stalls in the space in front of the barn. Claire sells funky colored candles she makes herself, Kaia sells hand made jewelry and beaded dreamcatchers. Pamela Barnes tells fortunes and sells tarot cards. Charlie hand dyes tie dye shirts and has the most colorful stand of them all.
every year people from all over flock to his orchard for his goodies and these booths, families strolling through the stalls, admiring the beautiful crafts before taking their sample of cider and then heading inside to buy a jug to take home, and a few apple pastries to boot. no one ever leaves without something. Sam and Eileen are good like that.
Jody and Donna love to visit Dean's orchard every season, and they'll stop by often in the off season as well. They have a place of their own up the road, and they quickly became close friends with the Winchester clan. Garth and his family are another set of regulars, they live in the area too, and they visit every season for their fall fill. His kids have a fondness for Eileen's apple core dolls.
one season brings a new face to the mix. Two new faces, actually.
Castiel and his four year old son, Jack. They visit the orchard, drawn in by the hand painted sign boasting apple picking that Sam staked in the front drive so passing cars could see.
that's something they do here, too. Apple picking. It's one of the most popular things about his orchard. Dean's got a wide array of those fancy apple picking sticks, you know the ones with the basket at the end that cradles the apple ad you just twist until it falls loose into the bottom of the basket. they hang from the side of the barn, and whenever someone shows interest in picking apples, Dean will take them there, pass everyone a stick and a bag and explain to them how to use the sticks and how to know which apples are ripe for the picking. then he points the groups to the little path into the orchard and sends them on their way. it's always a joy to see the groups when they come back, bags straining from their fill of apples, dirt smudged faces with huge grins and happy eyes.
on their first visit, Cas and Jack take their time walking through the craft stalls, and Jack points out every shiny thing and every pretty color. Cas buys him a tie dyed t-shirt and a pretty blue dreamcatcher. when Jack sees the apple cider cooler he practically drags Cas over and makes him pour them each a cup. Jack drinks his quickly, smacking his lips and letting out a loud "yummm". he tugs on Cas's coat and holds his cup out, tilting his head. "more?" he asks. and Cas points at the sign and tells Jack, "we're only supposed to have one each, Jack. maybe we can get some to take home, though." Jack lights up at that, but before they can head inside the barn, Dean is there and he's pouring another cup and sliding it over to Jack and holding a finger to his lips like it's some sort of secret, then he winks over at Cas. "you didn't hear it from me, but the sign's usually just a suggestion," he tells them. Cas chuckles, and before he can thank Dean for his kindness, Dean's jerking his chin towards the jug and dropping his eyes to Cas's empty cup. "go on,, fill 'er up. i know you want to," he says. Cas hesitates but then Dean waggles his eyebrows and Cas laughs again and fills his cup. "thank you, it's very good." "yeah?" Dean asks, grinning. his chest sort of puffs up a bit and he leans an elbow against the railing. "made it myself," he says casually. Cas's eyebrows shoot up and he's like "oh, wow, that's incredible. it really is amazing." and Dean's cheeks pink a little under the praise and he's like "well thanks, there's more inside if you want to take some home with you." (bc of course he's not going to miss an opportunity to pitch his product a little lol).
Cas and Jack head inside with Dean and they talk about the place a little more and the subject eventually circles to the apple picking, and Jack perks up at that, and Cas mentions that that's why they stopped here. and Dean grins and takes them to the side of the barn where the apple picking tools are, and he goes through his whole spiel, but Cas, poor guy, doesn't seem to understand how the apple picking stick works, so Dean offers to go with them and show him. and so Dean ends up heading into the orchard with them and he shows Cas how to use the stick, and he goes so gooey inside when Cas lights up when he successfully picks his first apple. and god, if he felt like that when Cas did, then when Jack picks his first apple, hoisted up by Cas, Dean positively melts. it's adorable.
they talk a lot while they pick apples, about anything and everything. getting to know each other, telling stories, laughing, smiling, having a good time.
when they finally head back to the barn, it's getting dark. Dean rings Cas's apples and cider and pastries (bc of course he goaded Cas into buying some of those, not that it was difficult) and Dean walks Cas and Jack back to their car because he doesn't want his time with them to end. and once Jack is buckled in, Cas stops next to Dean who's standing there with his hands in his pockets, and Cas just smiles softly at him and Dean goes "hope I see you around," and Cas grins and maybe steps forward to kiss his cheek real quick, and goes "you will" before getting in his truck and driving off.
and Dean does see Cas again. Cas and Jack become regulars at the orchard, coming back for more apples and more cider often. they like to hang around sometimes, too, and everyone with a craft stall there takes a liking to Jack too.
and maybe the end of the peak fall season is starting to come to a close, and Dean is worried that that means his seeing Cas will come to an end, too, but then he learns that Cas and Jack just moved into the area, so they're really here to stay, and peak season or not, they're not going anywhere. and Cas mentions something about maybe opening his own booth here next season to sell honey from his bees.
and come next peak season, Cas doesn't need his own booth because his honey sits on its very own display case inside the barn right next to his boyfriend's pastries.
(and the following peak season, Dean and Cas end up getting married right in the middle of the apple orchard with their family and friends surrounding them and jack throwing handfuls of apple blossoms.)

the parent trap only works if you’re identical | part three

Dean knew that one day his life would catch up with him and he’d have to explain everything to Claire but this definitely wasn’t how he had planned on doing it. He definitely didn’t expect to be driving to Washington DC with his son. His son. The truth was that he’d thought about Jack a lot over the years. Time and time again he had wanted to call Cas and get to know his child but they’d made an arrangement. Dean got Claire and Cas got Jack. No need to see each and drive each other crazy. Still, Dean had always wondered about his son and now here he was, sat in the impala and complaining loudly over Dean’s music.
“Ok, ok. Enough about the music.” Dean said when Jack’s complaining got to be too much. “We got a long drive ahead of us and I’m sure you have questions. Not gonna lie, I’ve got questions too.” Dean said. Jack let out a long sigh, clearly gearing himself up and Dean braced himself.
“Ok...um...how did you and dad meet?”
“Wow, straight out the gate.” Dean said. “Um, well your dad was studying Political Science and Economics at KU. With you guys being in DC now I’m guessing he got that government job he always wanted. Anyway, I was working at the garage owned by a family friend, guy called Bobby. He’s like an honorary grandpa to Claire. So, Cas’ car broke down so he brought it to the garage. I thought he was cute so gave him a really good discount, in return he asked me out for a drink. The rest is history.”
“Not really…” Jack said. “I’m still confused. What happened after that?”
“Well...we dated while your dad was finishing up at college. After that we went on a cruise ‘cause I’m not great with flying and your dad really wanted to go to London. Turns out I’m not good on boats either. I threw up a lot.”
“Is that when you and dad got tipsy and got married by the captain?”
“How did you know that?”
“Uncle Gabriel told me and made me promise to not tell dad. Apparently it’s why dad refuses to watch Titanic.” Jack said. “Dad? Dean...no, dad...can I ask you something?”
“Of course kid. This is Winchester Question Time after all.” Dean said.
“Are you mad me at and Claire for doing this? Why do we have to switch back so soon? Don’t...don’t you want to spend time with me?” Jack asked and damn if Dean’s heart didn’t break a tiny bit, ok a lot, then.
“Well damn Jack, of course I want to spend time with you buddy. Just ‘cause you’re not around doesn’t mean I don’t love you to the moon and back. It’s just, as much as I want you around, you belong to Cas. Kind of like how Claire belongs to me.” Dean explained.
“We’re kids, not pieces of furniture.”
“Yeah I know and I know this sucks but it’s the agreement that me and your dad came to. Neither of us wanted you and Claire to constantly be going back and forth between houses and you were both so little at the time.”
“Personally I think Claire and my idea to switch places was less idiotic.” Jack said. The kid may have had a point.
Before Dean could even reply his phone burst into life with a video call from Sam and Eileen. Dean stuck his phone into the holder and accepted the call. At once Sam and Eileen’s excited faces filled the screen.
“Hey, let me just pull over so I can talk.” Dean said.
“That’s fine, we just wanted to see Claire and say hi.” Sam said with a huge grin. “We can’t wait to see her!”
“Yeah...about that...we might have hit a slight speed bump.” Dean said as he pulled the impala over and glanced down at the screen. “Claire’s not here.” he said, signing for Eileen at the same time.
What? Where’s Claire? I thought you were picking her up today. Eileen signed.
“Oh I was but she had other ideas.” Dean said.
Where is she?
“Well she’s with her dad, just not the right one.” Dean said. Both Sam and Eileen looked confused for a moment before it seemed to dawn on them.
“She’s with Cas? How the hell did that happen?”
“Ask this genius right here.” Dean said, picking up the phone and spinning it around so Jack could wave at the screen. “Sammy, we got a Parent Trap situation going on.”
“Holy crap! Is that Jack? Wow kid, you grew up! Wait, don’t the twins have to be identical for the parent trap to work?”
“Don’t even get me started on that. I’ve already called both of them morons.”
“Hi Uncle Sam and Aunt Eileen!” Jack both said and signed.
“You know how to sign?” Dean asked him.
“Yeah, dad taught me.” Jack said before looking back at the screen. “Uncle Gabriel has told me so much about you two. It’s so cool to finally meet you!”
“You too kid, I haven’t seen you since you were a baby.” Sam said. “So you’re with Dean and Claire is with Cas...that’s interesting.”
“It’s not ‘interesting’ Sammy, it’s a pain in the ass.” Dean said bringing the phone back to him. “I’m now driving Jack back to DC so I can grab my moron daughter and ground her until she’s college age.”
And see Cas for the first time in over a decade. Are you nervous? Eileen asked.
Why would I be nervous? Dean shot back.
Obvious reasons. You and Cas came up with this cockamamie idea so you wouldn’t have to see each other. You only did that because you’d definitely launch yourself at Cas at the first opportunity.
Don’t start that again Eileen, you know why me and Cas didn’t work out and I really wish you and Sam wouldn’t gossip about it so much.
“We don’t gossip!” Sam said.
“You do and you know you do!” Dean shot back, completely unaware that Jack was texting someone at the same moment. A huge, shit eating grin plastered on his face.
-
In times of crisis, Gabriel Novak wasn’t normal who most people would have turned to but Cas was short on options. After driving Claire back to his house, Cas called Gabriel in a mild panic. Sadly, by the time Gabriel actually turned up, that mild panic had increased by a fair amount.
“And we’re hiding in your bedroom while the daughter you haven’t seen in over twelve years makes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because…” Gabriel asked, surveying the sight in front of him. Namely Cas, clearly having a ‘moment’.
"Because Dean Winchester is currently driving to my house. I’m sorry Gabriel but I can’t handle this right now.” Cas said. “I haven’t seen him in over a decade and now he’s driving halfway across the country to swap our kids back!”
“Cas, I think you need to calm down or have a drink. Maybe a few drinks." Gabriel said as Cas shot him the crazy eyes. “Just a suggestion.”
“I don’t think I’m emotionally intelligent enough for this! The man drives me crazy! If he didn’t drive me that insane then I’d still be married to him!” Cas cried as he started to pull shirts out his drawer. “Do I look emotionally stable enough for this Gabriel? We decided upon this arrangement so we wouldn’t have to see each other again because if we did I’d do something stupid like throw myself at him because the man makes me crazy. Seriously Gabriel, have you ever seen me like this?”
“Well…”
“Actually don’t answer that.” Cas said, giving up on finding a shirt and opening up his walk-in closest. Maybe he could just hide in there and leave the whole thing to Gabriel. Then again Gabriel lacked the emotional maturity to handle something like this. Maybe he could leave the whole thing up to Claire.
“No. Castiel, get out the damn closet and see your ex-husband like a big boy.” Gabriel said because of course Gabriel knew exactly what Cas was thinking. It was at that point that Claire strolled into the room holding a sandwich, stopping when she saw Cas stood in his closet holding out two nearly identical sweaters.
"Um, Cas...Dad? Are you spiralling right now?"
"No, why? Does it look like I'm spiralling?" Cas asked, walking out towards Claire. Gabriel opened his mouth to speak. “Don’t answer that Gabriel.”
"Well, yeah. You look like Dad does whenever he gets drunk and hears Since I've Been Loving You then cries while watching cowboy movies thinking that I don't know what he's doing." Claire said bluntly.
"Huh, that was our wedding song." Cas said before walking back into his closet. "Wait." He said, sticking his head out the door. "Does your father do that a lot? Not that I care, it’s just...I’m-"
“Spiralling? Interested in what Dean Winchester has been up to for the past twelve years? Clearly not emotionally intelligent enough to handle all this right now so you’re hiding in a closet like a child?” Gabriel intoned.
"Yep, exactly like dad when he watches cowboy movies." Claire said to Gabriel. “He does it like once a month. It's cool though. I just bike over to Uncle Sam and Aunt Eileen's house. They have cable and Aunt Eileen is teaching me how to sign curse words." Claire said with a shrug. "Cas...dad...why are you spiralling?"
“He’s emotional unintelligent.” Gabriel said while Cas just stood there, still holding the damn sweaters.
“I don’t know what that means.” Claire replied. “Anyway, I just spoke to my dad and they’re stopping for coffee. He said they’ll be here in four hours or so.”
“There you go, you’ve got four whole hours to get a grip.” Gabriel said. “Hey Claire, you gonna eat the rest of that sandwich?”
“Knock yourself out.” Claire said handing over the rest of her sandwich.
“I like this kid, she’s cool. Huh, you make your PB&J sandwiches just like Jack." Gabriel said looking down at the sandwich. "Jelly between two layers of peanut butter..." He added looking over at Cas.
"Yeah, that's how dad always made them." Claire said.
“How bizarre.” Gabriel said wiggling his eyebrows.
“How bizarre.” Claire intoned. Gabriel laughed out loud and high fived her with his sandwich free hand.
“Claire...did your dad say anything else? Does he seem annoyed?” Cas asked before Gabriel could make a PB&J comment.
“Yeah but that’s just because Jack did the ‘puppy eyes’ thing and changed the station to the Billboard Hot 100. I don’t know how Jack does it but he’s gotta teach me that, I’ll get away with so much in the future.”
“Right...did he mention anything else?”
“He wants to know if Dean said anything about him.” Gabriel said, straight to the point like always.
“Oh! No, not really...he stammered out a load of nonsense like always then begged Jack to change the station because Justin Bieber started playing and Bieber creeps dad for reasons I don’t understand.” Claire said with a shrug. “Though Jack said that when he was talking to Uncle Sam and Aunt Eileen he mentioned that they gossip about the two of you all the time.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, dad was signing it to Aunt Eileen. I didn’t know Jack knew sign language.”
“I taught him when he was little.” Cas said. Cas had learnt to sign when he’d met Eileen, it just felt natural to teach Jack.
“I mean, he’s right. Uncle Sam talks about you all the time when I’m there. Not so much in front of dad ‘cause he gets real weird about it.” Claire said. “Jack said something about dad not wanting to see you so he wouldn’t do something stupid. He’s probably right, dad does stupid things all the time.”
“Well well well, who does that sound like.” Gabriel said, shooting a very pointed look at Cas. “Claire, kiddo, why don’t we leave your dad to freak out in the closet and make him some calming tea? Or maybe grab a bottle of tequila?”
“Sure.” Claire said before turning back to Cas. “Dad, it’s gonna be fine. I think my dad is excited to see you. If that helps.” she said with a small smile. Cas smiled back because it didn’t matter how much Dean drove him crazy or how badly his was currently handling the situation. What mattered was that Cas was excited to see Dean too.
Now all he needed to do was pick out a sweater.

Pairing: Dean Winchester / Castiel Warnings: None Word Count: 2.574 Challenge: @sqz-zine Summary: Castiel loves his flower shop more than anything, but lately he can’t stop thinking about a customer. So he sends him flowers and hopes Dean gets what he’s trying to say. Link (if posted on AO3): https://archiveofourown.org/works/31529894
“Dean, come on!”
Castiel looks up when he hears the small bell above the door of his flower shop. There is a tall man standing in the door, with long hair and a deep frown. Castiel looks back at the flowers in his hands, puts them down and then wipes his hands on his apron.
“Yeah, Sam. Chill.” There’s a different voice and then another guy steps into the small shop. Castiel’s heart beats a lot faster at that sight. This Dean looks like he is straight out of a disney movie. Green eyes, dark blond hair. Freckles.
Castiel swallows.
“Hello, can I help you?” Castiel is surprised that he is still able to talk. The taller man, Sam, turns to him with a small smile, while Dean just stares at him. Castiel feels a bit uncomfortable.
“I’m looking for a nice bouquet for my wife.” Sam explains and he smiles at Castiel. That’s like Castiel’s easiest request. They already got some bouquets ready, but some customers wanna decide for themselves which flowers they put inside.
“Sure thing, you got anything special in mind?” Castiel asks him and he walks around the counter. Dean seems not super interested at all and is already on his phone. Castiel tries not to be disappointed.
His job isn’t to flirt with customers.
“Well… a year ago Eileen and I got married, so… I got something special planned for tonight.” Sam says and he looks so in love while he says that. Castiel feels himself smiling at that. Love must be so nice.
“Oh congratulations. Well what do you say Eileen likes? Maybe something traditional like roses or something more wild?” Castiel asks, but he is already picturing a beautiful bouquet in his head.
“How about something like that?” Sam says and he points at the purple hyacinth. Castiel raises his eyebrows, he understands that they look indeed very beautiful, but Castiel speaks the language of the flowers and…
“Purple Hyacinths. They do look very nice, but they stand for mostly sorrow, so I wouldn’t really recommend them for this.” Castiel says and he sees how Sam’s a bit surprised by this.
“Oh well no, that is not what I intended. She just loves purple.” Sam stutters out, but Castiel just smiles. He likes the color purple as well.
“Flowers have meanings?” Dean asks suddenly and Castiel almost jerks, because he hadn’t realized that the other man came back towards them again.
“Uh yeah, it’s the language of the flowers, I learned all about it when I opened this shop.” Castiel says and Dean looks really surprised, but also actually interested.
“Cool. I only ever knew about red roses meaning love.” Dean says and then his smile turns so beautiful, that Castiel has to blink a few times. Dammit. He’s really not good at flirting.
So he just nods and then goes over to some other bouquets. He has some really sweet purple and white combinations that he is pretty proud of.
“So here we got white jasmines, which mean sweet love or amiability. white clovers they mean ‘think of me’ and purple sorrels, which stand for affection. I know they’re not fancy, I do like more natural bouquets and…” Castiel starts to ramble, but Sam stops him before he embarrasses himself even more.
“I love it, it looks very beautiful.” Sam says and Castiel smiles thankfully at him. He takes one of the prettiest of the bouquets and carries it to the check-out when Sam says that he doesn’t need anything else.
While Sam pays for his flowers, Castiel can see that Dean stands at some lovely sunflowers and carefully touches their petals. The sunlight just hits him beautifully and Castiel’s heart squeezes.
He does seem interested in the flowers.
“Do you want some flowers as well?” Sam asks, when he finished paying and Dean is still looking through all the flowers. It’s clearly meant to be a joke but Dean shakes his head and he does seem a bit sad.
“Nah, not like I ever got some. Why start now?”
They leave shortly after.
Castiel can’t get the thought of his head all day. He wishes he could buy flowers. He looks back down at Sam’s contact info that he had left here for any future purposes and nods to himself.
Maybe he should be brave for once. So he calls Sam.
*
“Uhm hello?”
Castiel looks up from his work and his heart almost jumps out of his chest, when he sees that it’s Dean. Oh no, hopefully he hadn’t known that Castiel sent him the flowers.
“Hello Dean.” Castiel says and then bites on his tongue. Oh yeah so not creepy that he knows someone's name after being in this shop one time.
“Hi uh I know this is probably super unusual, but my brother bought a bouquet of flowers here like two weeks ago and you two talked about how flowers… mean something?” Dean says and he still has his hands behind his back.
“The language of flowers.” Castiel says and Dean nods.
“Yeah that and I… Well yesterday I found some flowers in front of my door. They uh got delivered and I wondered… if you could explain to me what they mean?” Dean says then he puts the flowers on the counter that Castiel had sent to him.
“These are white camellia.” Castiel says and he carefully touches the flowers. Castiel had used the most beautiful ones he had.
“And what do they mean?” Dean asks and he takes them back into his own hands. Castiel loves the soft smile on his face, even though he seems a bit nervous as well.
“You’re adorable.”
Dean actually ducks his head and Castiel can see how he blushes right in front of him. It makes his freckles stand out even more and Castiel’s chest squeezes almost painfully. God, Dean is so beautiful.
Castiel would be lucky to have someone like him.
“Uh- thanks.” Dean says and then his eyes widen almost comically. Castiel tilts his head to one side, because he is not really sure if he understands what’s happening.
“Oh my god, sorry. You mean that is the meaning of the flowers.” Dean says and he strokes his own hair, looking so incredibly embarrassed.
“Well yes. But you are adorable.” Castiel says and he has no idea why he’s so brave. Normally Castiel would rather die than admit something like that. Dean’s shy smile is worth it in the end.
“Thank you.” Dean says and he presses the flowers closer to his chest before he leaves Castiel’s shop. He almost stumbles on his way out.
Castiel hums happily to a nonexistent music all day.
*
“Hiya Cas!”
Dean looks happy today, when he opens the door to the shop. The last weeks Castiel had sent him flowers each tuesday and on wednesday Dean would come over and they’d talk about the meanings.
He doesn’t seem to know that Castiel is sending him these, but maybe it’s better this way. Dean is far out of his league.
“Hello Dean, how are you?” Castiel asks and he puts his watering can down. He had a busy day, but he would always make time for Dean.
“Good, thank you. I got new flowers.” Dean says and he grins so widely. Castiel loves to see him so happy. Dean had told him more than once by now how much he loves flowers and that most people would probably look weirdly at him for it.
“I can see that. They do look very beautiful. Gardenia. They stand for secret love.” Castiel explains and Dean’s eyes widen.
“You actually think they love me?” Dean asks and he seems so utterly surprised that Castiel’s heart aches for him. He had learned soon enough, that Dean thinks he isn’t worth anything. especially so much trouble.
“Yeah.” Castiel answers only and he can hear his own heartbeat throbbing loudly in his ears. God, Dean has to be the most oblivious person in the world, because he just smiles so happily again.
“So uhm… how is your garden working out?” Castiel asks because it’s spring and his own garden at home looks really bad. Castiel almost has never time to look after his own flowers at home and his garden is really small, but his landlord is an asshole anyway.
“It looks really good, thanks to you Cas. I planted so many camellias.” Dean says and he winks at Castiel. Camellias were the first flowers Castiel had sent Dean, but he hadn’t known they were Dean’s favorites.
“Camellias are truly beautiful.” Castiel agrees and he hopes one day his garden can be as beautiful as Dean’s one day.
“Why don’t you come over some time? I surely could use a professional opinion on them.” Dean says so casually, but Castiel knows him good enough by now to tell that he’s nervous. Castiel smiles.
“Dean I would love to.”
Castiel knows that Dean doesn’t mean this as a date, but he still couldn’t be happier. Of course at first Dean’s looks had caught Castiel’s eyes.
But the way Dean seemed disappointed that he’d never gotten flowers before, had made Castiel send him flowers.
And he had learned so fast what a sweet person Dean really is. He loves his brother Sam and his wife Eileen and he would literally kill anyone that talks back about his little nephew Jack.
Sometimes Dean spends hours talking about his own dreams. Having kids of his own, settling down, and having someone with him.
Castiel would give everything to be that person.
*
A week later Castiel walks through the streets with a new flower bouquet in his hands. This time they are pink camellias, since he knows now that Dean really loves those.
They mean ‘longing for you’ and that couldn’t be more true. Castiel knows he should be happy that he and Dean are already good friends, but he can’t help but long for something more.
He sighs.
Tomorrow he would officially meet up with Dean at his tiny house. In reality Castiel visits this house for over three months by now to drop off his flowers. He knows when Dean works at the garage by now, so he can easily leave his flowers at Dean’s doorstep without being seen.
It’s raining a bit today and Castiel is glad that Dean’s door is roofed over, so the bouquet wouldn’t be ruined by the time that Dean comes home.
Castiel can’t help but smile, when he sees Dean’s house. It looks so beautiful, he can’t really see the garden from the streets, only a huge apple tree that grows a bit over the roof, but he knows it will look stunning.
Like always he kneels down at the blue front door and puts the bouquet down.
There’s a noise inside.
Castiel’s heart stops.
The door opens.
“Hiya Cas.”
Castiel isn’t sure how he manages to stay conscious, but he slowly looks up to see Dean leaning against the doorway.
“Hello Dean.” Castiel answers slowly and he gets up again. He leaves the bouquet on the ground and he can feel the heat rising in his cheeks. Oh my god, Dean had seen him. Dean knows.
Castiel swallows loudly.
“Oh are those camellias again? My favorite! What do these one stand for?” Dean says and he acts like nothing unusual happened. Castiel needs a moment to find his voice again. Maybe this is a trick?
“Longing for you.” Castiel barely whispers.
“They’re beautiful and I just got the perfect spot for them.” Dean says and with that he turns around and goes back inside his house. Castiel isn’t sure what he should do, but then Dean is already calling for him.
Castiel steps inside and carefully pulls off his shoes, since he had seen that Dean is only in socks as well. He walks towards the door Dean vanished into and sees it’s the kitchen. It looks just like Castiel had imagined it.
Cozy and warm and so full of love. It smells like the apple pie that Dean had set on the counter. And right in the middle of the table, Dean has an empty vase and puts the flowers into it.
“Dean… I don’t think I really understand.” Castiel admits carefully and finally Dean turns back to him. At least he doesn’t look angry or disgusted. Maybe they could still save their friendship.
“Well I’m not the only one with uh… secrets. I know it’s been you for a while now.” Dean admits and he takes a step closer. Castiel feels so embarrassed. Had he been this reckless and stupid?
“Oh.” Castiel mutters.
“Sammy couldn’t hold his big mouth.” Dean says and Castiel chuckles weakly at that. While he had enjoyed gifting Dean flowers and crushing on him, Castiel had never thought about what would happen if Dean knew one day.
“Dean, I’m sorry… I didn’t…” Castiel starts to explain this somehow, but Dean stops him.
“Wait, I uh got something for you as well.” Dean says and he is out of the room again. Castiel hopes he wouldn’t get his ass kicked now, but Dean comes back with another bouquet.
“What?”
“Well obviously I’m not very good at the language of flowers. This is the only meaning I know.” Dean says and then he pushes the red roses in Castiel’s hands, who has a hard time believing that this is really happening.
“I love you.” Castiel whispers more into the flowers than to Dean. The roses are in his shop’s wrapping paper so Dean must have bought it when Castiel wasn’t working, but his helper Samandriel was.
“Yeah I know it’s a bit forward, but I really like you and I thought…” Dean starts but Castiel shakes his head. This time he makes a step forward towards Dean and puts the roses on the table.
“No, I mean, I’m in love with you, Dean.” Castiel says and it actually feels good to finally say it. Dean looks like he’s tearing up and for a split second Castiel thinks he has said something wrong, but then Dean is already kissing him.
Castiel closes his eyes and finally kisses Dean back. His hands find Dean’s warm cheeks and he forgets about the world around them.
When they break the kiss Castiel can’t help the huge smile on his face. Dean’s eyes flutter slowly open and Castiel presses another short kiss to his lips.
“I aloe you very much.” Dean says like the dork he is and Castiel snorts. Well he had known right from the start that Dean is adorable. Castiel would even bet that Dean had practiced this.
“While Aloes stand for affection, they could also easily stand for grief.” Castiel says and Dean groans.
“No, you don’t get to ruin my brilliant joke.” Dean says, but he is laughing and Castiel can’t help but laugh himself. He had never pictured himself this happy.
“It wasn’t that brilliant.” Castiel says and Dean looks so scandalized that Castiel laughs loudly. God he knows why he fell in love with Dean.
“Okay, then I really lilac you.” Dean says and Castiel groans.
“Lilacs stand for…” Dean presses a hand over his mouth and Castiel can’t help but chuckle again. Maybe they’re both the worst.
“Maybe we should stop talking.” Dean whispers and pulls his hands away. Castiel has to admit that he really likes that idea.
He kisses Dean quiet.

I do love me some good breakup tension - scene 1 (15x06)
Yes, we already know Cas loves Dean here but like I’ve been saying all along, they really turned the burner on Destiel to an all-time high this season, to the point where it couldn’t be ignored. More proof in the pudding so to speak. Again, this is just my personal read/take on this.
This scene absolutely kills me:
Tumblr media
(so the scene I had linked here vanished from YouTube, so I apologize but I can’t link it, it’s the scene from 15x06 where Cas is buying supplies for fishing in the beginning of the episode, and of course Dean and Cas’ phone call)
We know that Sam has been trying to text Cas with no response (earlier scene shown of said unanswered text messages), trying to figure out why Cas left in 15x03 without a word (which we now know the scene where Dean explains to Sam was cut). Not only is he trying to do an activity Dean has mentioned enjoying in the past, he’s gone radio silent on the Winchesters.
“I had a friend who...” - interesting way to put it, Cas. Yes, technically they’re in the middle of this “domestic dispute” as Jensen called it, but what breaks my heart is that while Cas is trying to get some space, he’s still pining for Dean here and it’s so obvious. They clearly meant to show it as romantic. Again, to those who still think his “I love you” in 15x18 was not romantic, look at this, look I tell you. *tapes your eye lids open & points to the screen*
This is a breakup. Not a brotherly battle or sibling fight, not a friend breakup, not a fight with a co-worker or your neighbor but a breakup. Just like Misha was told to play a “jilted lover” in 9x06, he is now playing the lover again, but this time the spurned lover. Leaving, trying to get space, do something meditative to try to move on, get that person off your mind... While also secretly hoping the other one will realize how they wronged you, will come begging for forgiveness or wanting to make things right, that they get how pissed/hurt you are but they don’t want to be without you so they’ll do whatever it takes to fix it... If I start to sound like a damn rom-com here, it’s not my fault, blame the story lol.
“Wish I’d found it more relaxing” Yeah, I bet he does because it’s not clearing his mind or taking his troubles away, not distracting him from thinking about the one thing “he knows he can’t have” (15x18).
The phone call comes next and as we know from Cas stating in season 8, he has excellent hearing, he’s a celestial being, so he already knows that Dean is the one on the phone. That’s why he turns his head away when the sheriff holds the phone up at first, looking like he wishes he could leave for a second before thinking it over. Sure enough, we see him reluctantly taking the call and acting like it’s the last thing he wants to do. He stares straight ahead at a spot on the wall and lets out a stiff “Hello” -- almost as if he is trying to make sure he’s stiff as a board, pure steel, not being affected whatsoever.
When Dean mentions Sam has been trying to get in touch with him, Cas says he knows. He’s not trying to be mean to Sam or to block him out, it’s because the one person he wants to be texting him nonstop and calling him is Dean. That’s why he’s not checking Sam’s messages.
When Cas lets out that quick and yet sassy “nope”, my first reaction was “oh damn, this really is a breakup, holy shit, where’s Eileen with that popcorn?” And now rewatching it, my God it’s just so obvious. This is forefront and center, it’s right in our faces. He wants Dean to know he’s not checking his phone, he wants him to know that he’s not looking at it whatsoever, that he’s so over it. (we know he’s not)
Dean tells him “smart, why would you?” Btw, do you notice that’s always Dean’s go to with Cas? A crack about him being stupid or smart (sarcastically, like here) or he’s a dumbass, especially when he’s really angry or worried? Just an interesting observation.
Before hanging up, Dean warns him to watch himself since Chuck is back, and tells him to check his damn messages. Again, Dean is showing his concern here. He literally used the whole FBI superior-agent-ruse-thingie to warn Cas about an impending danger and bypass the whole Cas ignoring them thing. And what is one thing that Dean has revealed in the past that he is not a fan of when it comes to Cas? When Cas ignores them, their voicemails or messages or prayers, or fails to check in, and why? Because it’s worrying (and Dean doesn’t like being ignored by Cas), something Dean has said more than once.
It’s not shown in this particular link (it got cut off at the end) but after Dean hangs up, Cas brings his sleeve up to his face for a second, looking like he’s wiping something or about to, and then continues as if Dean hasn’t just clicked off, to keep up the pretense for the sheriff, and then hangs up the phone. Cas is affected here as we know but it was more than just talking to Dean again, it was also Dean warning him about Chuck. Dean still cares and it gets to him.
They’re both still angry, still cooling off, both still in the throes of this big breakup, but they both still care about one another. And that’s shown through Cas fishing (and thinking of Dean, a friend he had) and Dean taking the opportunity to warn Cas about Chuck. He could have texted Cas that, he could have called him, but no, he did it right when Cas wouldn’t be able to argue back or hang up, when he had to listen. When he couldn’t ignore him or reject his calls or not answer his texts.
Romantic read, I tell you. God, this season was epic (well 90% of it), riddled with moments like these. It’s all about the framing, the editing, the acting, and the dialogue, my friends.
