And yee! I did say the ‘official’ translation was bad! Thank you so much for remembering my words and sticking around my blog so long. 🥺💕 Anyway yeah, that unfortunately happens sometimes, and by sometimes, I mean a lot, ‘cause a) there are people out there who unironically think it’s okay to take creative liberties in translating because it’s their right as someone taking the time to do it (can’t be assed rn but if you search around this site enough, you’ll find an entire thread of translators talking about this), b), there are people who write for a lot of series they’re not into and therefore aren’t aware of all the context of previous novels, c) there are people who just slip up and make mistakes! Happens all the time unfortunately and most people don’t understand that if you misunderstand or change one thing it can change everything, and d) people who are tasked with translating 99% of the time never even talk to the people team of people who actually published the original, much less are in contact with the author themself! Mistranslations and drastic creative liberties happen a lot for example in the fandom I came from (The Legend of Zelda), which you can see a bit here! And if you still don’t believe me, you can go ask Dear old Author Neil Gaiman, who has even had some of the characters in his books turned from lovers to sisters and everything, a lot of the time completely without his knowledge until fans point it out to him! If you scroll his blog, I’m sure you’ll find those posts for yourself, assuming he doesn’t see an ask from you on if it happens. ‘Tis a sad thing, but Asagiri-sensei likely doesn’t even know when a mistranslation happens, much less do these people sit down and ask him things directly before doing their thing. He certainly doesn’t have involvement overseeing the process; that’s an unreasonable thing to ask of someone when it involves other languages they may or may not even be fluent in. And all the proof we need that it’s wrong is that the JP novel and the Stage Play (both things that Asagiri was directly, heavily involved in and/or directly penned the words of/material of the script for himself) both contradict it. If you’d like to take on that claim, since you’re implying I’m wrong, have at it! The burden of proof is on you, so, I look forward to seeing you send me the individual JP source lines of the Eng translations you want to take a crack at defending and a long wall of educational text explaining why each part of the English translation got it 1,000% right, directly in my in-box. If not, have a good day ‘cause I’m sorry, but I got limited time and other things to do right now, baby. 💕 I’ll eventually get to it myself some day, but right now I have other articles to finish first, art to make, and a fic to keep posting.

For The Lover That I Lost — Sam Smith

For those unfamiliar with flower symbolism, I’ll briefly explain below the cut because some heavy spoilers abound for the Fifteen light novel (and of course, by extension, Storm Bringer.)

The flowers are white orchids. “Orchid” is part of the meaning of the alias “Randou”, which is Arthur Rimbaud’s alias while working in the Port Mafia (the full meaning is “Orchid Shrine”).

White orchids represent purity, loyalty, innocence, and other such things — all of which fit his personality — along with being a very sad flower commonly used at funerals.

Orchids are also very delicate flowers that require extreme amounts of love and care because they die quite easily if mistreated, which is fitting considering Arthur died because of mistreatment and betrayal at the hands of the other person in this picture, Paul Verlaine. :’)))) Also many species are co-dependent and literally cannot survive on their own without another plant.

(Nick)name? Preferred pronoun?

In public, I have two nicknames I’m most comfortable with — Linkle, which is one used by everyone, and Tippi-chan, which is a nickname given to me by a dear friend of mine on another site and has only ever been used by him. I like both of these, but Tippi-chan I consider to be a more familiar way of addressing me that I associate with people to which I’m very close.

I’m a girl, so she/her pronouns, please, when you’re referring to me and not my muse.

Birthday?

That’s a secret to everyone except my closest friends, and I’d rather it stayed that way. ~

How would you describe yourself?

I would say that the way I present online and the way I present in person is very different; online, I enjoy socializing through writing and overall am just a very outgoing and talkative person, while offline, I am extremely introverted and would much prefer to speak and carry on conversation through text than audible words. In both cases I am shy in my own ways.

Don’t ever expect to audio or video chat with me, sorry; that’s completely off the table.

Hobbies/Interests?

I love writing analyses, meta, theories, etc. about my favorite series; I also write fanfics, RP, draw, play video games, watch my favorite shows, and run several different blogs. There are honestly too many things to list here.

Fandom wise, my biggest interests are Bungou Stray Dogs, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Legend of Zelda, Ace Attorney, and Doctor Who (up until Series 10 of NuWho), and although I love them all nearly equally, it would likely be in that particular order if I had to choose. I am extremely opinionated and firm in my beliefs, but I also have no troubles socializing with people who have differing opinions and respecting them greatly.

I love music in general, and my tastes are all over the place.

Are you a fan of anime? If so, what are your favourite ones?

Um, am I the only one who thinks that’s kind of a silly question, considering I’m a member of the Awkward Squad? Yes, obviously, I am. My absolute favorite anime is Bungou Stray Dogs, without any equal. I also enjoy Persona 5 the Animation, Mushishi, and Noragami, though truthfully I don’t watch very much anime outside of BSD. 

I do like Diabolik Lovers as a series a little, but I wouldn’t list the anime as being one of my favorites though I’ve finished watching it, and I’ve only watched some subbed playthroughs of the games; I’m not that into romance and mostly just appreciate the characters themselves to some extent.

Do you ship? If so, what is/are your favourite ship(s)?

I do ship, although given I’m ace, for me most of my ships tend towards the platonic side even when they’re romanctic; I’m fairly innocent minded as a general rule.

You can learn most of my primary ships through a certain section on my main blog’s directory, but in general my biggest ships from BSD are Platonic! Odazai (Dazai x Odasaku), ChuuArt (Chuuya x Randou/Arthur Rimbaud), AkuHigu (Akutagawa x Higuchi), and Kyouka x Atsushi (which I’m not sure of the official ship name for). Yes, I know, most of my main ships are rare pairs and some a bit controversial, but I love them all dearly.

Favourite Character(s)?

Dazai, Odasaku, Chuuya, and Randou/Arthur Rimbaud are all my equally loved BSD babies. 💙

I also adore Yashiro Tsurugi from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Clay Terran from Ace Attorney, and Link from the Legend of Zelda.

If you could bring any character to life to become your best friend (or partner), who would it be?

I couldn’t possibly choose who to bring into this world, because all of the characters I love most have someone they deserve to be happy with, so I couldn’t separate them. 

Maybe Shad from the Legend of Zelda, because we could do Historical work together.

If you could have any superpower (it can be from an anime, movie, video game, or anywhere really), what would it be?

I’m happy with who I am and the abilities I have just to speak to others this way and do the things I do, but if I had an ability other than those, I think it would be one to peaceably stop wars and have everyone just be happy together. It’s corny, I know, but it’s true.

How many posts do you plan on posting a day?

I’m not sure. It depends on the day. I have a lot of drafts to clear out in my main blog, but I imagine it should be a fair number of posts even from here, so long as there’s content and people wanting to interact with me.

Wow! That’s quite a list (and a lot of people to look up in the future lol)! 😮 Well, I’m sure that will be a rather interesting experiment. In light of that…well, let’s see. Day 1, I think my first immediate reaction if I’m to survive this experiment at all would be to run to Mori. He may not be the kindest person in the history of ever, but he is logical and methodical about basically of all his decisions, so maybe if I were to rush over and explain my plight, I can reason with him before I’m captured, killed, or tortured by the others, and convince him that the most logical and optimal course of action would be for all of us to band together and rise up against Senku to escape, instead of harming each other. And maybe he could then convince the others. Or I’ll just be dead/tortured/experimented on cause they won’t listen to reason even if the suggestion is coming from Mori. 😭 Ig we’ll see.

Nothing has changed……all human beings, all of life……are no more than the frame of the brain and flesh, and of the material world that surrounds them……no more than a beautiful frame……”

Have you ever wondered what the death scene in Fifteen would have looked like if the anime had actually not completely lied about basically every single second of the battle scene?  Well, wonder no longer... I’ve recreated it — down to the blood on his nose, based on the actual light novel’s description. You won’t be able to read all of that scene following the link to Lea’s translation above, as there was a lot left out in her summary with excerpts, but you can read a portion of it there in a very well polished translation, or you can check out this post where I’ll tell you where else to find it.  (Please also feel free to check out my article to learn about all of the butchery the anime committed against this beautiful story.)

Okay so I’m not fluent in Japanese (I can understand the spoken language to an extent but I can’t read the characters), so I used a translation app out of curiosity on one of Asagiri-san’s most recent posts on Twitter and I got something I think is accurate to his inner thoughts, whether or not it’s an accurate translation, so I had to share it.

The Stages of Hype for a Potential Fifteen Animation Based on Actual Experience — a Guide by Linkle 

Stage 1:

Begins with a very audible gasp which will alert your family and concern them to a point of asking you what happened as you continue to hyperventilate and laugh with glee. This may or may not be followed by you running around the house looking for someone you can tell about it; success is not guaranteed, but has been known to happen.

The person you are seeking may assume you were just prancing around the house in celebration of this fact once they learned about your reason for coming to them — they may not be entirely wrong.

You will then take to the Internet again to spread the news to literally anyone who cares and is okay with knowing.

All hope of getting any projects done will become temporarily impossible as you fail to think of anything but an animated Fifteen and feel compelled to release your excitement publicly through a reaction post.

Stage 2:

Your giddiness will not end, but will be temporarily half replaced by a feeling of urgency as you realize you have unfinished projects that must be completed sometime within the incredibly near future; you may then draw on your hype as inspiration and become unusually motivated to do anything and talk to anyone.

Remember to channel this energy in a proper way by getting things done and it will help to fill the unending excitement that is compelling you to otherwise refresh every official page for the BSD series and every site where you’ve spread the news at a rate of 50 times per minute in anticipation for new reactions, responses, and announcements.

If you can manage to contain your excitement successfully, your level of focus will increase tenfold from its normal amount and your work will be exceedingly productive as you can think of nothing but getting your current project done so you can go back to flailing over the leak.

Your may be trying to restrain your emotions and remain skeptical for the sake of not overhyping, but please realize that this may not be possible.

It is not too uncommon for people experiencing this condition to be seen or heard chanting “Fifteen” at least once or twice to each person who knows and cares.

Stage 3: 

Following your completion of your project(s), you may experience extreme feelings accomplishment, followed by nervousness as you show it to the rest of the world, fearing it won’t be good enough. 

A false lull may then take the place of these emotions as you relax and perhaps even become physically exhausted and/or emotionally drained; sleep is advised during this time as it will pass you through this stage while you dream peacefully of the object of your hype. On the first day/night, this should follow through well into the next morning, and will give you the ability to sleep very well and quite long — if life is willing to allow you that luxury. 

Regardless of if you are able to fulfill a proper night’s sleep, upon waking, you will feel at least emotionally recharged and your excitement will once again take over, but this time you will probably be much better able to control it outwardly.

It is important to realize that at this stage, even as strong as these feelings may continue to be, they may not extend over other subjects as they did in previous stages, and it will be possible to experience your normal range of emotions in reaction to outside events and topics.

During this stage there may be some doubt and/or fear that you could be mistaken and that this leak was somehow inaccurate or fake. This thought may make you extremely sad, but please try to remember that it is fine and this stage will quickly pass.

Stage 4: 

You will finally begin to realize that this is unlikely to be a fake leak, and, while still excited, you may or may not begin to think more logically about the situation; guilt may be experienced over those you may know who had other light novel hopes and are disheartened by the news rather than overjoyed as you are. You will likely try to comfort them and may feel awkward until they express to you that they do not have any harsh feelings towards you for being pleased by the leak when they are not. 

Your joyful hype may be replaced with a fearful one and self-doubt may enter your mind as you begin to question if you should have been careful what you wished for and if you are fully prepared to face the consequences of having your dream come true. 

This is the worst stage of the condition; if you can make it through this day, things will look up from here.

If you did not sleep well during Stage 3, you can expect to crash at the end of this day.

Stage 5: 

You may wake up early in the morning, realize there is only one day left before the new season premieres, and be unable to go back to sleep for at least another half an hour because of the excitement; this may repeat itself a few times until you finally just get up to face this last, too long but at the same time not nearly long enough, day.

Your emotions will be running rampant, and you may alternate between the feelings of extreme excitement that occurred in Stage 1 and the anxiety of Stage 4. You will feel compelled to ramble about your feelings and make as many commentary posts as possible, savoring this special occasion and feeling of hype before you will find out once and for all what will happen on the day the season premiers.

W.I.P. Week — Day 7 (March 2): Any WIP

I decided that for the final day, since I had so many more separate artworks to share, I would just share some of the sketches I made in between my main works as warmup exercises. There are a lot of images in these, obviously, but I will try to name them all for you best I can so you know who they are portraying, and someday I hope to turn each one into its own full piece.

Ugh, there are too many to really mention here, and right now they’re unfortunately not even coming to mind. If I had to name one, it would probably be the White Collar fanfiction Floating on the Edge by msgone. Obviously, that’s unlikely to ever happen, but it was definitely a good beginning for a story; it had a lot of flair, and it’s very sad that it was never updated further.

“Skyloft and the Loftwing”

This is probably one of few actual landscape/scenery pictures I can ever say I did. It was a picture for a chapter in my multi-crossover story, The Heroes of Hyrule, which is based solely upon the stories that unfold in an RP done with my family. I don’t really plan to talk to much about that here, but, to think it’s still going on even today makes me really happy.

I did this back in 2011, so it’s pretty old stuff, but I hope you’ll enjoy it anyway.
