The Mission Bolin x Reader Series: Part Three

After your revelation Bolin decides he’s had enough but your sister isn’t done with him yet giving you your hardest decision yet. Who do you side with?

The next morning the tension was thick in the air but it seemed to be bigger than just you and Bolin. Apparently Varrick had hit a wall with Kuvira’s superweapon and deemed it too dangerous to continue. Your sister did not like that. She tried to persuade (threaten) him to continue but he refused. Bolin was there and sided with Varrick, your betrayal enough to make him also lose his loyalty to Kuvira.

She did not like that.

Kuvira came down on them like an iron fist. She turned on them so quickly it surprised even you and you watched on as she pretended to be thinking over what to do with them but you knew she had already decided, she sent them away to be locked up until they completed her project. They were now prisoners. Although apparently she was delusional enough to think they could be brought back on side. As the two were being led into the next compartment Kuvira moved to stand beside you. "Y/n go and speak with Bolin" she whispered to you "beg him to reconsider for you, he will do it because he likes you...if you are convincing enough that is" she added. Kuvira went to walk away when you shook your head "no". Kuvira stopped "what?". "I won’t do it!" you cried "i’m done manipulating Bolin, I won’t hurt him ever again! I won’t do as you say and nothing you can say or do to make will make me change my mind. I’m done! Bolin deserves better" you finished with a shout. You weren’t sure where your sudden confidence had come from but it felt amazing. Seeing her arrest Bolin had been the final straw and you wanted out. In response to your outburst Kuvira simply raised an eyebrow. "I see, it appears the plan worked both ways, not only does Bolin like you but you have feelings for him too?". "Of course i do" you agreed "you think feelings are a weakness but they’re not! Bolin’s niceness is his best quality and i won’t let you ruin that". "Kuvira?" someone called and you realised Bataar had been standing in the doorway with the compartment door open the whole time meaning Bolin and Varrick had likely heard everything but you had bigger things to worry about at the moment. Kuvira raised her hand and two cuffs were tightened on your wrists. Bataar didn’t hesitate to grab your arms and restrain you. "Don’t hurt her" Kuvira said without any emotion "just lock her away and give her time to think about what she’s done, then when she’s ready to beg forgiveness I’ll listen". Kuvira watched passively as you were taken into the cells and pushed past Bolin and Varrick. You were locked in a cell beside them while Bataar grinned, thrilled at the turn of events.

The time you spent in your cell was very boring. Varrick tried chatting to you but honestly the only person you wanted to speak with was Bolin but he remained silent the whole time. Bataar arrived a few times to ask if you were ready to beg your sister for forgiveness and you replied no every single time. Apart from that not much happened to you. Bolin and Varrick on the other hand were taken out of their cell regularly to work on Kuvira’s weapon. You heard them whispering plans but were not expecting the explosion that rocked the train mere hours later. You felt your carriage detach from the train and fell hard against the wall of your cell. The door burst open and you gasped unable to see who it was or what was happening. "Who’s there? What’s going on?". Bolin and Varrick appeared and you frowned "what happened?". They both looked at you wide-eyed as if they’d forgotten you were here. "Any chance you grabbed the keys?" Varrick asked and Bolin shook his head. "The keys....will you please just tell me what you’re doing?". "Slight issue, this train’s blowing up and you’re going with it unless we can get you out" Varrick said inspecting the lock to your cell. Bolin appeared beside him "lava should melt that". Varrick shook his head "you’ll need to do the hinges too and quick!". "Bolin..." you started but he shook his head "y/n just let me concentrate and step away...please". You did as he said and anxiously watched as he worked on your cell. Varrick was not helpful and gave Bolin a countdown which only made things even more nerve-racking. With only a few minutes left until detonation Bolin finished the hinges and wiped the sweat from his forehead. “Y/n stay to the side” he yelled and threw his weight against the door. Varrick chattered about the remaining seconds until Bolin finally crashed through the door. “Come on” he said barely meeting your eye and you hurried out. “Less than 60 seconds to detonation!” Varrick cried and Bolin frowned “how on earth are we...”. “That’s it!” you cried and you rushed to the door of the carriage “use the earth to protect us!”. “Are you sure it will work?” Bolin asked. You nodded “sure if you tunnel deep enough”. “30 seconds!” Varrick yelled and Bolin yanked him beside him “everyone stay close”. You obeyed stepping closer and Bolin looked at you fleetingly before he earth bent through the floor.

You were yanked downwards and fell into the earth. You jumped as darkness evoked you and began panicking before you felt a hand grab your face. "Are we all here, y/n is that you?". "Yes Varrick that’s me" you replied wondering who else it could be "is everyone okay?". "We’re in a tunnel" Varrick cried excitedly "Bolin saved us! Best assistant ever!". "Bolin?" you asked but you could tell by the awkward presence beside you that he was there. "We should start walking" Bolin said suddenly "come on" and he led the way. You emerged from the tunnel and blinked a few times before looking straight at Bolin. "Bolin...thank you for saving me" you said unsure what to do and Bolin barely looked at you "you’d have died if i didn’t". Varrick paused "well this is awkward...are you still mad she used you? Even after she rebelled against her sister for you?". "Varrick" you hissed "Bolin has every right to be mad at me and i totally get why he doesn’t trust me, don’t make him talk about it". You turned to Bolin awkwardly "Bolin i’m so sorry about what i did to you and i know nothing can make up for it...i just hope you know i never meant to hurt you and I’m going to try and make it up to you in any way i can". Bolin looked at you for a few seconds before nodding "okay". You smiled sadly "thank you". Bolin nodded again "we should work out a way to Republic City" and started walking.

Varrick complained the entire way. He tried to get Bolin to carry him but you snubbed that idea right away. The three of you stumbled forwards with an uncomfortable tension. Bolin was barely speaking and to make up for it Varrick wouldn’t shut up which made the whole thing worse. You were praying for anything to end this when a net appeared from the floor capturing the three of you. “Ow come on!” Bolin cried as you were all tossed together. Bolin being the heaviest fell on the bottom and you and Varrick tried not to step on him. “Maybe this would be a good time for you two to talk”? Varrick muttered to Bolin who sighed “please for once can you just be quiet!”. “Fine!” Varrick cried and he descended into a moody silence.

By the time your captors came you were actually grateful to see them as was Bolin. “I’m so glad you’re here! Can you please let us down?” he cried making the whole thing swing precariously. The woman was cautious enough recognising Kuvira’s uniform but Bolin spoke to her and she let you down. She told you she had a plan and was warming up to the idea of freeing you...until she got a good look at you. “Something about your face...you’re her sister!" she cried and you jumped as suddenly all weapons were pointed at you. You were suddenly yanked backwards and Bolin stepped into the mob "hey hey calm down we talked about this remember! We told you that we were high up". "She’s her sister" the woman repeated "how could we ever trust her, why would she betray her?". "Because i care about other people more than my sister! The citizens of the earth kingdom, innocent people, all the people she’s hurt who I did nothing to protect..." you trailed off looking at Bolin before turning back to the woman "my sister never cared about me just power and i followed her for so long because i was scared but i’m not anymore! I wouldn’t let her turn me into a cold lifeless weapon and i won’t let you turn Bolin and Varrick away" you said stepping in front of Bolin "so if you can’t trust me that’s fine, tie me to a tree and leave me here....but i think i’d be more useful to you on your side. I have knowledge beyond any soldier and my presence alone can get you through the earth empire, if you trust me i promise you won’t regret it". “We need to discuss it...stand over there where we can see you” the woman commanded and you did as she said. The group all huddled and you clutched your hands nervously as they debated helping you. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the woman turned back around. "Fine" she said suddenly “you get us through the checkpoint and we’ll let you go but if you even think about betraying us...”. You nodded “I get the picture, I promise you won’t regret this”. “I better not” she muttered stalking away leaving the three of you alone. Wow you really love sacrificing yourself for us” Varrick noted “I really appreciate the sentiment and i’m not telling you to stop but you should know I’ve forgiven you”. “You’ve forgiven me?” you asked confused and he nodded “yep! So take it easy kid, less sacrificing and more helping”. He rushed away and you sighed watching him in disbelief “just when I think he can’t be any crazier”. Bolin chuckled but he froze when you looked at him “let’s go”. It was just a start but you were happy with it.

The plan was to get the group through the checkpoint by claiming they were prisoners. You led the group being the highest-ranking which seemed like a good thing at the time...in reality the guards recognised you straight away and thanks to Bataar alerting every outpost to your betrayal they didn’t hesitate to open fire. As you were at the front you were the first target. “Y/n!” Bolin called but you raised a wall of earth just in time blocking their strike. “The idea was to get through the checkpoint!” the woman cried and you sighed “obviously but do you want to take on those guards and their robot friends?”. “We had a deal!” the woman cried not willing to budge and you exploded, your frustration from the past few crap days bursting. “Fine!” you yelled and threw your barricade at the soldiers and mecha suits. You took out two suits and turned back to the group “you want to get through, then help me fight out way through” and you rushed after a suit.

You’d worked on several of these suits so you knew where their weaknesses were. You yelled out tips to the others and worked with Bolin fairly efficiently to take down the suits one by one. The guards noticed this and singled you out as the leader. That’s how you found yourself attacked by multiple earth benders who began forming a ring around you. When Bolin realised you’d been backed into a corner he came to your defence recklessly placing himself into the circle. You blinked as he appeared in front of you “Bolin what...”. “Don’t talk, we can defend one another and maybe get out of this”. You nodded and stood back to back with Bolin hopelessly outnumbered. You didn’t like your odds but you were determined to try...but before you could raise your first fist all the bots fell to the floor. Everyone looked around and you saw Varrick cheering in the control room. “Hmm not such a waste of space” you chuckled before realising the guards around you were distracted. “Bolin!” you called and launched yourself into the nearest guard. Bolin caught on before the others did and you have 3 down before they even knew what hit them. Seeing that the tables were turning the remaining guards began to flee and your victory was assured.

The fight over everyone began discussing where to go next. “We can give you a lift to Republic City” the leader offered and you looked at her “you’d do that for us? I thought you hated me?”. She shrugged “you came through back there...even if it wasn’t in the way we agreed you got us through and I believe you’re nothing like your sister. Just do us all a favour and take her down yeah?”. You chuckled and nodded “i’ll certainly give it a try”.

So you boarded the ship back to Republic City and set off. After the fight Bolin hadn’t said anything about saving you and all his anger seemed to have returned. You sighed watching him and Varrick appeared beside you “don’t worry he’s a good kid, he’ll thaw and forgive you soon”. You frowned shaking your head “why would he? I don’t deserve it and what I did to him was unforgivable”. “Stop being so hard on yourself!” Varrick cried “the survival instinct is so strong that most people would’ve done what you did. The first time you told your sister no she threw you in a cell. That’s not normal and while it doesn’t excuse your actions it certainly explains them somewhat...you came through for him in the end and that means a lot”. You sighed noticing how tense and troubled Bolin’s usually happy and carefree face looked. “I hope so...”. Varrick patted you on the back before moving away. Bolin looked up and noticed you watching him. He immediately turned away and you felt a pang in your stomach. You’d make this up to Bolin in any way you could. You’d prove to him how sorry you were and you’d never hurt another person again.

Doesn't have to be the character you think is the most evil, just the one you most love to hate/hate to love. They suck severely but whenever they show up you can't look away.

PROPAGANDA:

Amon/Noatak - Bloodbender with a genuinely tragic backstory. Reinvents his entire identity and creates a sham political movement that exploits real tensions between benders and non-benders instead of going to therapy. Explodes at sea with his baby brother Tarrlok.

Hiroshi - Straight up tries to murder his daughter and then runs away like a coward. Bit of an elitist snob. Calls Mako a rat which is ironic considering he's the one spending a not-insignificant portion of his time skittering through a series of underground tunnels.

Varrick - Steals Asami's company and also every scene he's in. Invents the movie and immediately uses it for war propaganda. Has only a wisp of a ghost of a moral compass. Helps start at least two sectarian conflicts. Always has some kind of foot situation going on (bunions, calluses, etc.) and makes it everyone else's problem. Treats Zhu Li terribly and for some reason she agrees to marry him anyway.

Unalaq - Nasty little manipulator. Jealous of his hotter older brother so he gets him banished from their tribe. Was part of the Red Lotus plot to kidnap Korra as a baby. Has an arguably erotic encounter with the ancient Spirit of Darkness that makes him huge and also red (honestly it's an upgrade).

Raiko - Total loser who didn't want a tree growing through his office and was a massive bitch to Korra. Failpresident who coped with his re-election loss by starting the in-universe equivalent of Fox News.

Zaheer - Horrifically brutalizes Korra and then haunts her for like 4 years. Kills the Earth Queen and creates a power vacuum later exploited by Kuvira. The kind of guy you meet at a protest who seems cool at first but then he says something completely batshit that makes you want to back away slowly with your hands up.

Queen Hou-Ting - Shitty old despot whose favorite activities are abusing palace staff and bleeding her people dry. Hates animals. Literally her only redeeming quality is that she's related to Wu. Got very creatively murdered by Zaheer. Probably nobody cares about her but I needed more evil women for this poll hashtag feminism.

Aiwei - Funny little guy with some great jewelry who always knows when you're lying. Let Zaheer and Co. into Zaofu via a secret tunnel attached to his room. Currently enjoying a long vacation in the Fog of Lost Souls.

Kuvira - Created what was essentially a nuclear bomb and looked super hot while doing it. An ethnonationalist who put dissenters in camps and probably killed tens of thousands of people and was only mildly apologetic about it.

Guan - A less hot and less competent Kuvira. Brainwashes Asami, Mako, and Bolin into attacking Korra in the comics. Even more unsuccessful at politics than Raiko.
