You know what era of romcoms I miss? It's the early 2000s teen romcoms that were based on classic literature. They were some of my favorite ones, and yeah, some were loosley based, but they still hit those important bases, and they were so much fun.
We had:
Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew - 10 Things I Hate About You
Shakespeare's 12th Night - She's the Man
Snow White - Sydney White
Cinderella - A Cinderella Story, What a Girl Wants
Little Mermaid - Aquamarine
Jane Austen's Emma - Clueless
The Scarlett Letter - Easy A
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - Warm Bodies
Shakespeare's Midnight Summer's Dream - Get Over It
Pygmalion - She's All That
Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor - John Tucker Must Die
Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility - Material Girls
I might be missing some, but I remember just having fun with these. One of my English teachers also showed us a few of these movies while studying Shakespeare to show how pieces of literature can change over the years and inspire other's own takes.

What's the last book that you read that challenged your beliefs or politics?
I'll go first. I just finished "Material Girls" by Kathleen Stock which made me reevaluate the approaches of modern feminist, LGBTQIA, and TRA discourse and activism.

My partner just informed me that her flight attendant successfully captured the attention of everyone on the flight by saying "hiiiii did somebody drop this [item] up hereeee? 😏" before rolling right into his procedural safety briefing for everyone on the flight and if that doesn't prove that everyone is at least a LITTLE bit of a material girl then I don't know what does

Mind blowing analysis once again from Marcel and Hannah. What if the worst part of Barbie, which is Gloria’s cheesy one-dimensional feminism speech - what if that’s part of the camp? Could it be cringey because it’s trying to be???!
Maybe it’s campy as hell for the apex of a story to be about how one impassioned speech about feminism can immediately un-brainwash every Barbie and start a revolution.
