If anyone is looking for songs to listen to while they're drawing or writing for WROEF and are tired of listening to the game sountrack over and over, here's a few songs I associate with each of the characters.

Milton: A Million Dreams, You Should See Me In A Crown is awesome for him as well, Soldier, Poet, King with Sam, Dawn and Milton respectively as the surviving and procreating members of each generation

Edith: If I Die Young by The Band Perry, Hurricane by Halsey, More by Halsey...Hurricane is not a perfect one but I think it sort of fits?

Anyhoo, some songs that are good for the Finch family in general are Two Birds by Regina Spektor (Calvin flies away from Sam first verse, Gus complains to Dawn about the sky being overcast in the second, and Milton leaves Lewis in the third), Merry Go Round by Kacey Musgraves, Dollhouse of course, and the above interpretation of Soldier, Poet, King.

I hope at least some of y'all have a similar music taste!

Ive decided to give a more in depth introduction about myself:

I go by either Rhys or Richie, I dont really have a preference, my pronouns are he/they and I am under the age of 18, that ad in depth as I will go with my age.

Im an autistic, queer person, tone tags are appreciated when speaking to me. Any discrimination just simply won’t be tolerated, not only because i am autistic and a queer person, and not just because anyone who does looks so silly, but because most attacks would be directed at my characters and I will not under any circumstances tolerate my characters being hated on, same with real people, but considering the nature of this blog i figured i would talk about my characters specifically.

Interests of mine include: Books like The Goldfinch, IT (unfortunately), Twilight (unfortunately), TSOUE, and assorted queer books like I’ll give you the sun, Song of Achilles (unfortunately), This is how you lose the time war, etc., movies and shows like IT (again, unfortunately), The Goldfinch (again), many horror movies like Fear Street, Scream, Better Watch Out, and Final Destination, Other than that, Edward Scissorhands, Matilda, Im not ok with this, etc. im into Skyrim, DDLC, what remains of edith finch, projecf sekai, and music wise I like Melanie Martinez, MCR, PTV, Falling in Reverse, FOB, P!ATD, cavetown, a lot of vocaloid and mother mother for the most part.

To sum that part up: I like rhythm games, music, literature, and im just really into a lot of thought provoking media.

I draw, and write characters and stories, and I have for years. My characters were first created in 2020 and continue to play indescribable roles in my life to this day, I love them more than most people and I am always willing to talk about them.

She’s since stopped counting the days of when everything went to hell in a hand basket. Wolfwood had mentioned something along the lines of seeing grey hairs on her head and she had slapped his arm, told him to not say such things and that she was not, in fact, going grey.

Still, that didn’t stop her from worrying every now and then even if there was plenty of work to be done that kept all of them busy. 

A homestead near Hopeland had become their little slice of paradise after the end of all things. And there were times where Meryl still couldn’t believe this was all theirs.

Ms. Melanie was getting up in years and while the children grew older—some staying to help out, others leaving to start new lives, there was always room for more to come and stay. These doors would never close or turn anyone away when they were in need. 

It eventually became so that no one knew where the orphanage and homestead began or ended, the land becoming a home to all who found themselves here. And it felt good. It felt right.

After all that tragedy, after everything, it felt like they could all breathe again.

Meryl finds herself walking to their shared bedroom, slipping off the shawl she had draped around herself. The pattern was sun-worn but the material was soft and she kept it, even if it started to look like it had seen better days. Folding it over the arm of the chair in their room, she climbs into bed and nestles herself between Wolfwood and Vash—who, without fail, always made room for her in the middle.

She could immediately feel both of them shift closer together once she was situated between the two of them, Wolfwood grumbling something that sounded like, “about damn time, Finch,” and the soft chuckle of Vash as his breath tickled the crown of her head. The window to their room was open just a crack—because of her, considering being sandwiched between the two of them often left her hot and sweaty.

It’s not long until she’s lulled into dreams, her body sagging further into the indentations of the bed that had been made over the years. She can feel the weight of Wolfwood’s arm across her hip as his hand grips Vash’s side, anchoring himself to them. She can feel the thump-thump of his heartbeat against her back and that pulls her ever deeper into her dreams.

Tonight, for whatever reason, her dreams decide to play out the worst moments of her life. 

It’s a rapid-fire succession of images that are a sequence of events, one after the other, and she can feel the tension in her brow as it's knit in worry and fear. Her breathing changes, becoming more laboured and quick, and she only knows this because she can feel a gentle pressure at the top of her head.

It’s Vash, and he’s whispering something to her.

It doesn’t help as much as he thinks it does because she feels like she’s falling and there’s no safety net beneath her. Meryl thinks she can hear the faint rumble of Wolfwood’s voice behind her while Vash is trying to bring her back to them. She’s not yet woken up.

His voice breaks through the noise and the darkness, clearer this time, and Meryl feels like she’s being pulled along towards the light. 

She comes awake with a shuddering breath that immediately turns into a sob that wracks through her entire body. She’s trying to say his name, to get the words out, but her mouth keeps opening and closing like that of a fish out of water. Tears are streaming down her cheeks with no end in sight.

It takes a moment longer than it should for her to come back to them, Wolfwood nuzzling the back of her neck, whispering her name while Vash continues to reassure her that he’s here—that they’re both here, and that they are not going to leave her.

“‘M sorry—I’m sorry—“

One of them, she thinks it’s Vash, shushes her soothingly, flesh hand touching her, grounding her. “It was just a nightmare,” she hears him say as Wolfwood continues to reach over and gently grip Vash’s shoulder, smooshing Meryl between them.

Perhaps on any other day, she would have complained about being smothered, but tonight is not the case. 

Rather, she finds herself being soothed by both sets of heartbeats as her breathing slows down and the tears stop flowing. In just a few short moments, she’s exhausted herself but the closeness of both of them with her is enough to lull her back into sleep.

Her body becomes lax once more and it is almost like a collective sigh of relief that there are no more nightmares this night.

Just a dreamless sleep where there is only warmth and safety.
