Tao Jianhong New
New design for an OC of mine, Tao Jianhong! A med school student that had to suddenly become a combat medic during a war, of which afterwards he became Shanzun's top doctor. At some point, he also became a part-time priest of the Leveret Spirit to support his community.  He has an affinity for Water, as such it's no surprise his Qi Control manifests as 陰水 and 陽冰. 陰水 is a black almost ink/blood like water that he originally used for healing and soothing, but during war, it changed, and he used it in battle as a slow necrotic poison that saps enemy strength. 陽冰 is a dry ice that glows with radiant light, during battle it would burn foes, especially particularly evil demons, and the fog it created would conceal and obscure. But when peace came, it also changed, becoming a anesthetic and a way to close wounds and lessen bodily damage.

Nerdcrafting is back! This one is a two parter! Monk's spade top case!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the upper case I just finished for my monk's spade. It was inspired by @ertrunkenerwassergeist 's ffxv/kingsglaive fics. Go give them a read and some love!
A monk's spade is an implement used for gardening and martial arts. Buddhist monks would take a spade with while traveling. They would bury bodies they found and would pray for the safe travels of the spirits, while defending themselves from trouble.
The Bellum Clan of the above author's stories are sailors and shipwrights. I had a headcannon of them being talented singers as well- with a specialty of powerful lullabies. The theme is the ocean's own lullaby, a ship sailing on calm waters reflecting the stars above. The beads are petrified wood (not really, too expensive. But got coffee jasper is very close.)
The back is my school's name- lei kwoon. It's a beautiful piece that will hopefully bring me peace on my voyages.

The sword of the day is the monk’s spade.
Tumblr media
Also known as a crescent moon spade or Shaolin spade, this is a polearm used in Shaolin martial arts. It was carried by traveling monks and served a dual purpose. Should the monk come across a corpse, they could use the spade to bury them with proper Buddhist rites, but the sharpened blades could also be used to defend oneself against threats like bandits or wild animals. The weapon is also famous in Chinese literature; in the novel Journey to the West, the character of Sha Wujing (AKA Sandy) carries one of these weapons.

A Description of Sha Wujing's Weapon
Sha Wujing's weapon is often portrayed as a bladed Monk's Spade in modern media. However, he wields a magic wooden staff in Journey to the West (Xiyouji, 西遊記, 1592 CE). A poem describing the look, history, and powers of the weapon appears in chapter 22.
Anthony C. Yu's (Wu & Yu, 2012) original translation opens with:
For years my staff has enjoyed great fame, At first an evergreen tree in the moon. Wu Gang cut down from it one huge limb: Lu Ban then made it, using all his skills. Within the hub's one solid piece of gold: Outside it's wrapped by countless pearly threads. It's called the treasure staff for crushing fiends [...] (vol. 1, p. 428) 寶杖原來名譽大,本是月裡梭羅派。 吳剛伐下一枝來,魯製造工夫蓋。 裡邊一條金趁心,外邊萬道珠絲玠。 名稱寶杖善降妖 …
But I recently noticed that the translation needed some improvements. Below is my version.
For years my treasure staff has enjoyed great fame. Originally a tree of the sala variety in the moon, [A] Wu Gang cut down from it one limb. [B] Lu Ban then made it, using all his skills. Within the hub is "as-you-will" metal, [C] Outside it’s wrapped by countless pearly threads. It’s called the Treasure Staff Perfect for Subduing Monsters [D] […] (based on Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 428)
Here are the reasons why I made such changes:
A) The Chinese identifies the tree as suoluo pai (梭羅派), which literally means a “(family) branch of the sala tree.” I chose “type of” to avoid confusion with “a variety of” And while the sala is technically a kind of evergreen in wet environments, it has deciduous-looking leaves. I chose to use the actual name of the tree to avoid confusion with pine evergreens. Yu (Wu & Yu, 2012) incorrectly identifies the suoluo tree as “Cunninghamia [l]anceolata,” a type of Chinese pine evergreen (vol. 4, p. 391 n. 7).
B) The Chinese mentions nothing about the size of the branch.
C) The Chinese states that the inside is jin chenxin (金趁心), or “satisfactory metal/gold.” This is likely referring to the Chinese idiom chenxin ruyi (趁心如意), or “as one desires.” This important as the novel reveals that Sha’s weapon is capable of growing or shrinking on command just like Monkey’s cudgel, the “As-You-Will Gold-Banded Staff” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 429). Thank you to Irwen Wong of the Journey to the West Library blog for reminding me of this fact.
D) Yu (Wu & Yu, 2012) skipped over shan (善), or “good at, apt, perfect,” in his translation (vol. 1, p. 428).

@mlbfemslashfebruary My (late) entry for day 14, dedicated to the weirdly fascinating pairing of Lila and Marinette. Set early in season 4, here's the first half of "Trust and Secrets Are to Be Treasured".
It was bad enough for Marinette that she had a cold, and had to skip school and the date with Luka. But to have Lila, of all people, bring her the homework? Get in her room while she couldn’t keep her away from her secrets?
“You do realize your mom will kill me if I try anything funny, right?” Lila said, almost as if she had read her mind. Or just her expression. “You say anything, and she demonstrates on me how a Monk’s Spade technique can be applied to a baker’s spatula.”
“How do you know about that?” Marinette asked, worried about how much her worst school enemy knew about her family.
“She did it on live television during the debacle with Jagged Stone, and then I looked up what Chinese weapon resembles a spatula the most. But let’s talk about sweeter things… Like these bugie I’ve brought you. They’re my favorite bakery good.”
For a moment, Marinette feared the food the other one was offering her was poisoned. Then her mind translated the food’s name, and she realized Lila Rossi was literally feeding her lies, and admitted she liked them.
“Seriously?” she asked as she involuntarily chuckled. “That was worse than Chat Noir’s puns.”
“Thank you. Though I suspect you’d like my truth better.” was Lila’s reply as she produced an envelope. “Here I have a handwritten list of all the false claims I’ve made and other bullshit I’ve pulled since I came to Paris, including a few things you would never suspect, and an USB drive with evidence, all to be used as needed.”
“What?! What are you trying to pull?”
“I’ve simply realized I fucked up. Deeply. Did you know I collaborated with the big bad butterfly man willingly, twice? All knowing I can easily take the idiot down and “save Paris”… And then that jackass’ stunt in New York nearly destroyed the world, twice. And I found out he got Shanghai destroyed by accident, though Ladybug fixed that. That’s when I realized the mess I’m getting myself into just to get back at the spotted near-nudist” once again Marinette cringed at her costume being practically painted on “and panicked. I was this close turning my hair in a wig and abusing embassy resources to create myself a few fake identities when I realized there was a better way, just give my leash to someone I can trust not to abuse it. That is, you.”
Marinette blinked as she processed the situation. To quote Chloé it was utterly ridiculous… But it made sense. It was even flattering that Lila trusted her so much. Still, she had to ask something.
“Why do you hate Ladybug so much?”
“Because she nearly destroyed me out of jealousy. I mean, remember my famous interview? I expected Alya to hold on it for a few days and then verify it with Ladybug, allowing me to reveal I had pranked the entire school… And then It was published on the same day. How many chances that Alya could be stupid enough to publish it without checking? And I even helped her getting some information I had stumbled upon and she was looking after on that day… Right as I was flirting with Adrien. Clearly she saw it and went to Alya to confirm it and then humiliate me, only for Adrien’s reaction not being what she expected and changing her plans.”
Marinette had almost no answer to that, not after what she had done with Kagami out of jealousy. Except that “Alya becomes an idiot whenever Ladybug is involved. Enough she thought Chloé was her even after she was saved by Ladybug on live television.”
“And how was she supposed to know it wasn’t a Lucky Charm decoy? At the time it was still plausible. But nevermind that. I hope I’m proven wrong… And trust you to keep the secret until it becomes necessary to stop me.”
“Ohhh…Kay. I’ll do it. What about Adrien?”
“There’s billions of people on this planet, I’m not going to obsess on one of them that already has a girlfriend. I think I already told you that once. And speaking of them… I’ve heard Andrè the Ice Cream Man let you choose your own magic ice cream, and it was orange and green like my favorite outfit?”
At that, Marinette blushed. She also swore to get even with whoever told Lila about that.

One Piece Chapter 1094 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we are back again
Another week break has been rough but we're back with our Straw Hats in Egghead
Let's see how it goes
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
Starting with a Shimotsuki-themed colour spread; Zoro in the middle of course but you have Kozaburo, Koushiro, Kuina on the right, Yasuie, Ushimaru (plus Onimaru) and Ryuma (Zombie and I think regular) to the left. Seems only Toko is left out among the confirmed Shimotsuki
Well that's an ominous title as we pick up right where we left off
Graphical reminder that the Gorosei are above Vegapunk in chain of command
The Mark IIIs have started their assault on the Navy though as the VegaTank 8 sticks to the cloud path with its special wheels
Sanji's lady senses immediately pick up where Bonney is, as he darts into her direction
Vegapunk like 'a lady radar's not real but ok' XD
Bonney is under attack though, with a guy using like a shell Monk's Spade
Bonney been packing heat this whole time?
Gratuitous ass shot in a splits cartwheel while firing a gun
The attack is non-fatal, since it's called 'Near-Death Experience'
A Yohoho in the chat for the navy guy hit with it, he was suddenly bones for a second, and now there's the trauma
Bonney runs right into a Mark III but this one's not on our side
Old Lady Vice Admiral Bluegrass has commandeered this Mark III with her Ride-Ride Fruit, which allows her to command anything like a vehicle
Whoa lady the aging effects are temporary cool it down
Bonney once again stutters at the sight of her father's visage, which allows Sanji though to get the jump in to save her
Shell Spade man's attack is Whack-an-Otter, which I guess means he might have an Otter-based skill or fruit
With Bonney in hand Vegapunk drives to Sanji to make their escape
Back with Luffy vs Kizaru, and both are showing signs of fatigue
Kizaru's doing a lot of dipping out of the fight
The two, Zoro and Lucci then sense something though, the ominous aura felt by Jinbe and the other Vice Admirals
Also Nami, Chopper and Usopp are accounted for tending to Stussy
Saturn makes the order, all Pacifista are to cease
Knowing the chain of command, Atlas confirms that a Gorosei must be here
What the? WHAT IS THIS?
There's literally a summoning circle there!
Why did he need a boat if you just just summon him?
Marines are told that Saturn is coming, but you also have to be a certain rank (Commodore) to witness his arrival, all others must avert their gaze
This ritual circle is making a lot of emissions
I mean, the revision of '5 Elder Planets' makes sense and all but then you gotta use a pentagram to summon them
A non-Commodore didn't listen and gets immediately killed
no seriously WHAT IS THAT?
Saturn's fruit is not of this world, he's for sure an awakened zoan, black fire scarf like Lucci and Kaku wonder if the colour is reflective of alignment, but he's got like spider legs and a ram's horns and fur, also finger claws
My guess is the Ushi Oni, as Naruto fans would know it as the Gyuki aka the Eight Tails, they have toxic breath too
What's interesting for the Ushi Oni is that they do frequent around water, and have been attributed to poisoning water sources, maybe the Gorosei are the devils of which the fruits are named?
The Vegatank is knocked off its course by Kizaru, who barely missed the tank
Luffy's on his popeye energy, but he has to dodge one of Kizaru's laser, turning him into a spinning top again
But he uses the momentum for an ACOC Hook punch called a 'White Star Punch' in scanlations, sending the fist through the head much like he did with Kaido's face
Also some stars popped out for the headache Kizaru's gonna get
That seems to be Luffy's final blow though as he runs out of gas, right as Saturn recognizes him as Nika
I know the spider legs are intimidating but I just can't stop seeing Dr Kureha's trousers, Oda likes those flame legs
The Vegatank 8 is alas the most recent casualty of Egghead, but all its passengers are safe
...if not standing right in front of a towering Gorosei
There's some cold introductions between Saturn and Vegapunk
But Bonney is going straight for the kill, grabbing a sword and plunging it into Saturn's chest
Dialogue implies that the Gorosei must've commanded Kuma's personality wipe, maybe we'll cover what she saw next chapter
It has been 5 weeks since we have seen our wife, our queen, our light of the Revolutionaries, Nico Robin. WHERE ARE YOU HIDING HER ODA?
Well things continue to get more complicated.
We all knew Saturn would have to get involved but I don't think we were expecting a full demon summoning shit to go down. With Luffy exhausted in front of him too it's falling down to Sanji, Bonney and Franky to help him and the Punks escape.
Part of me feels like Kizaru will recover too, you don't see him KO'd after all. I am hoping that Zoro just finishes Lucci quickly after this though because I still don't buy that Lucci's in the Billion beri tier. Jinbe seems to be aware of the threat moreso that Nami, Chopper and Usopp so I wonder if he'll jump into action at all.
But obviously I doubt Bonney's stab has done anything really to Saturn, except probably invoked his rage from 'she's just a little girl' to *Kill Bill Sirens*. But I do very much hope we see that flashback, maybe Kuma will come in to save everyone again, either pawing Saturn away or pawing the Sunny away with the Punks and Crew.
There's still also the threat of Blackbeard there, that would definitely be a fruit he'd want, maybe the Yami Yami no Mi was the fruit of a former Elder Planet? But it could also invite an unlikely alliance. Or the Revolutionaries simply show up? Speed not really on their side though unless Dragon kinda flies there. Caribou gonna jump in an steal the Gorosei, clutch move of the century XD
Many directions things can go, but I very much need to know that Robin's safe and sound.

To be honest am a bit in love with onomastics in worldbuilding.
Making lists of names you can give to characters - names that were chosen by their parents, surnames that were passed down and worn in pronunciation so much.
Names of places, weapons, pets.
But as well I love the means of generating them. While yes, sometimes it is fun to make and design a whole lot of names with some "naming conlang" approach to them (aka making a dictionary and some rules of combining words but no grammar), encoding words to turn them into names sounds good too me as well.
As a person who made like, almost a million of Markov-chain generated names on @444names* (free access btw, no need to notify me but please do leave a comment or some mail if you like my work), I also have incorporated some naming conventions into my worlds as cryptolangs (see @cryptolangsguy - my other blog)
.
Some of my worlds have a preset religion of sorts I call "The Church of Stland", centered about Holy Spirit of the Holy Land of Stland. While the details vary from time to time (in some worlds the church might be actually good guys, in others - a caricature of the religious leaders of today and the cults they lead), the idea remains the same.
Their naming convention for monks (and, in some settings, for all believers altogether) is almost dumb.
-> Take a word starting with "st". -> Erase the said "st"
Resulting in names like Ranger, Erling, Andard, Ructure, Atuette, Rength, Arship, Igmata...
.
Or for example the Awara, aka aolmpehgaa, from Mirves (Spring World).
Being sentient spirits from the plane of wisdom they visit the physical realm to study from the living, and to do so, craft themselves a body from any physical matter their telekinetic will can find.
Having no names in the plane of wisdom, they name each other by one simple convention:
-> Take a word describing or associated with the individual. -> Replace all vowels with the first vowel appearing in the word.
Resulting in names like Rivilit, Birdwitchir, Silvir, Ookbronch, Antlars, Anthall, Gardanraka, Advasar, Unuquu, Treehegger, Carafal...
.
In another setting, which is more of a sketch I can return to if needed, has a species of dark, wild nature protectors who turn other people into their kin - like vampires, but through different rituals.
They are called Speideks, owl-footed, conjoined-horned, mask-faced and spade-tailed purple keepers of the wilderness and the night. Their naming convention is more off-canon; It isn't mentioned in the lore itself, but the scheme is supposed to be used.
-> Take word. -> Apply the Deites cryptolang to the first and last letter of it, adding an apostrophe for initial clusters and adding a Y for final clusters.
Giving light to names like Sives, Leepes, T'Toni, Q'Redatos, Uol, Castarfy, Cetray, H'Ravet, Gaithfum, Doasvy, D'Hallengi, Valmy, T'Pruci, Q'Rotectos, Fanci, Qetrifief, Tilenvy...
.
Souax - a species of high-tech aliens - have their names literally based on interpreting upside-down handwriting.
The Deninocs (also from Mirves - like the Awara) have a joke of a language that is just shortening all words to the first three letters and writing them together - somlikthiigue. That applies to their names too.
A royal bloodline from one of my WIP worlds, Lenedos, have a naming tradition promised to keep their family name alive and prosperous, which includes taking words in local tongue and putting them kind of backwards, modifying with a feminine or masculine suffix and a prefix if needed.

please please PLEASE tell us what you think the easy boys' dnd classes would be! i agree with dick being a paladin and nix being a rogue 100% but i'd love to know what your take would be for everyone else!
Caveat: I'm not as well-versed at DND classes just yet (mostly because I haven't actually encountered a lot of them, and I've only ever played in 5E) so these are probably not the most creative of builds but I did my best! Also! These are classes, not DND races! Just assume everyone's a variant human... and also that everyone has the Soldier's background... Also don't come for me about which edition rules or game source I'm going by, we're playing it fast and loose, everyone.
I did say Dick was an Oath of Redemption Paladin-- mostly as a joke, because of the whole healing-Blythe's-combat-blindness thing. But now that I think about it, it doesn't really fit him very well. Something about Dick could drive him to be very vindictive, I think. He's definitely very petty. Story-wise, since he's so young in-show you can explain this away as a young Paladin picking a path and learning the ways and the discipline that comes with it... But he can also very well be Oath of Devotion Paladin, since Dick is very big on honor and duty. I also see him being Oath of Glory, mostly because something about Dick always strives to be the best, and that man has a lot of self-discipline.
You know who else is a Paladin? Ronald Speirs.
Listen. I know people would automatically think: oh, Ronald is a Rogue. And while that's what I think Ron would like to think of himself as (and maybe he multiclasses-- though I have no idea how that'd work), this bitch is a fucking Paladin through and through. Oath of Vengeance? maybe, but not quite. Oath of Conquest? oh, yes, that fits very well. Listen, a Paladin does not garner divine power from their Faith in their god-- that's a cleric. No, no, a Paladin garners divine power from their devotion. Try and look me in the eye and tell me Ronald Fucking Speirs wouldn't have the ability to divine smite someone simply because he has strong opinions about something. You can't. Did ya'll just forget *points at the interrogation scene in episode 10.* GIRL. He can multiclass, of course, but I feel like he's like. Locked the fuck in, ya know?
Or if you really wanna lean into the strange-and-off-putting vibe, we could borrow from Critical Role and he could definitely be a Blood Hunter. Ronald would be the kind to become a Blood Hunter. Order of the Lycan, because he's from DOG company, and I like to think I'm funny, but also that'd play excellently with both the almost animal-like way he moves and thinks + his care for easy as a whole (pack).
Ron could also be a monk. But I like him better when he has a weapon in his hands.
Lewis is a rogue though, and mostly because he's an Intelligence Officer, but also knowing his family background, it fits. I do love the idea of him being an Arcane Trickster, mostly because in my mind he could definitely multiclass as a Shadow Sorcerer (because let's be real, New Jersey would be the type of place to house a Shadow Sorcerer bloodline) because of his Nixon name + Charisma, which he has in spades. But only until like... level 3 or 4 because Lew would be the type to forgo magic-- since it's not something he can precisely control + it's his bloodline, so it's not like he worked for it-- to opt for something he can control and work toward perfecting. But another subclass he could fall under is Inquisitor Rogue. That's literally his job description.
Or Lew could be a College of Whispers Bard! That'd be fun, too, especially since Nix doesn't do much combat, but he would have a ton of Bardic Inspiration.
Wouldn't it be so funny if tiny Harry Welsh was a Path of Wild Magic Barbarian? I think it would be funny. Idk if it would fit, mostly because I think he's a Fighter, but it would be so funny.
David Webster, this bitch would be a College of Lore Bard for sure. But I did think for a bit that he might've been a School of Evocation or Order of Scribes Wizard (who multiclassed Bard), just for the high intelligence, low wisdom joke. It would be so funny if he was School of Evocation though-- can he cast spells? Yes? Gracefully and subtly and with finesse? Oh, gods no. He's a mess.
Web and George Luz are probably the only Bards in the whole company. George could be either College of Eloquence or College of Swords........ but if you want to up the angst potential, how about College of Spirits Bard? Oh, he watched his friends die in front of him? Let's make his survivor's guilt WORSE by making him have the ability to talk to ghosts!!
Shifty Powers, obvious. Ranger, of course, and in numerous subclasses, too. Though I did toy with the idea of him multiclassing as Arcane Archer, but then I figured that's more for Earl McClung, ya know (because, historically, he was a better shot than Shifty-- even Shifty says this)? The class in itself is fairly weak though, so I imagine Earl'd multiclass Arcane Archer (Fighter subclass) with a Ranger, though what kind of subclass is still up in the air for me, too. Truthfully, much like Shifty, he could be any, so take your pick. I'm partial to Horizon Stalker; but Hunter/Monster Hunter would be good, too. Also? Just imagine casting Arcane Shot on a gun instead of a bow-&-arrow. Magnificent.
Shifty and McClung could also be Circle of Land Druids, but then they wouldn't be as proficient in combat, so we'll stick with Ranger.
Eugene Roe could be a Life Domain Cleric, of course. But I feel like that's a bit too obvious. Grave Domain Cleric, maybe? Way of Mercy Monk sounds more appropriate for his character, since he's easily the kind of character to strive for inner spiritual balance, the way monks do-- let's just pretend he focuses more on healing than he does combat. Though both these classes do have the abilities to go on the offensive.
Ralph Spina strikes me as a non-magic user healer, though, so I think he'd be a Thief Rogue with a focus on the medicine skills + an extensive Healer's Kit, since thief rogues have like... more object interaction (I think?) per turn than anyone else. Though that would also fit Eugene, too, if you want non-magic user!Eugene, since he's often described as having a sixth-sense for when people need him, then appearing outta nowhere + the whole scissors thing. And the looting for supplies.
Carwood Lipton could go like... 3 ways. Fighter, Cleric, or Monk. I'm partial to him being a Light Domain Cleric, though, since that's the first thing that popped into my head. He could multiclass as Bard too, for the Bardic Inspiration, but idk, there are other subclasses that have the Suggestion spell in their back pocket, and he would use that extensively in Bastogne to keep morale up.
Malarkey is a Wild Magic Sorcerer. Mostly for the angst potential. Can you imagine him losing control of his magic when Skip and Penkala die? I know I shouldn't torture this man, but alas, it's just too good.
I also think Joe Liebgott would be a Divine Soul Sorcerer, though. That literally popped into my head first thing the second I saw this ask. He'd have some Healing Word by Level 2, and I think that works best for scenes like the one where Tab gets stabbed and also the one where he's comforting Tipper.
I can't shake the image of Artillerist Artificer Pat Christenson, Skip Muck, and Alex Penkala out of my head. They're on machine guns and the mortar rounds, respectively, so it fits for me.
......... an evil part of me wants Buck to be some sort of Warlock, he just hides it very well? But, again, that's mostly for angst potential. Realistically, he'd be a Fighter and/or a Barbarian. But a Warlock in the Military, though, wouldn't that be something? Of course the military would never allow it, because the Patron would take precedence above all else, but who says he can't hide that by claiming to multiclass as a Wizard? Idk how that would help in any way the plot, but the vibes are immaculate.
Everybody else, though, to me are either Artificers, Fighters, Barbarians, Clerics, or Monks, of course with multiclassing in between!
......... uh. yeah! that's it!

hey, could you share the Ancients name headcanons? :)
deep breath in this essay i will
okay so let's start off with a few language hcs, because my naming ones depend on the structure of the language
the ancients' language is picto/logo/ideographic (idk the exact difference, maybe it's multiple??), kind of canon considering the achievement glyphs
compound words and radicals are very common, used both for inflection and to specify words, e.g. Sliver of Straw becomes [Straw] [Sliver-genitive], Seven Red Suns becomes [Seven] [Setting-Sun], Looks to the Moon becomes [Look-Toward] [Moon]
they don't count in base 10! I'm working on a base 32 system inspired by karma 6-10's symbols, this is important for the names because they need to have consistent lengths
characters have a lot of stylization potential for use in seals, signatures, etc. but it tends to render the words unreadable to people not well-versed in the art form
now onto their actual naming schemes
a typical Ancient name is exactly 4 characters, denoting a quantity, quality, or object. this is split into two [adjective] [noun] names, somewhat analogous to a first and middle name
the personal name (not always the first half) is chosen by the individual themselves, while the other half is linked to their family (usually shared with or derived from a parent or older sibling) - for example, if Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets had a sibling, they could be named something like Seven Branches, Twelve Brackets
iterators, as they belong to no particular family, lack the family name, only having a single name
colors are never used in Ancient or iterator names, as they are reserved for referring to dynasties; the two iterator names that contain colors use them figuratively, the "Grey" in "Grey Wind" meaning "cloudy" or "dreary" rather than the literal color
the words, especially objects, used in names aren't arbitrary; they have a lot of associations and symbolism that are given to an individual as wishes for their life. natural themes, like Leaves and Sprouts, represent hope for a peaceful life, while tools, like Axes and Spades, symbolize ambition and great achievements
names could be easily made into square or circular seals, with each character taking up a quadrant of the seals. they were rather common in the higher ranks of society, and often made by the person themselves, used as a form of signature
name length/complexity is correlated with social status, from short, simple names (Pel from White Pearl my beloved), to single-part adjective-noun names, likely used by lower-class aristocrats or other minor roles (Eight Bogs of the House of Eight from Other White Pearl my beloved), to the double-part names like those of the echoes, used by monks, nobles, and others held in high regard.

Nerdcrafting! Monk's spade part 2: the crecent

This design was inspired by @ertrunkenerwassergeist 's stories. Go give them a read and some love!
This is the second half of the case. The crescent was used to dig out rocks from the hole one was digging. Also good for gouging out chunks of those who would dare stand in your way.
The Arra clan are featured in the above author's stories to be message runners and administration of interclan functions. They value truth and speed. This case features owls on a starry sky, interspaced with blue lace agate. (Also one of my rats.) The fusion of bellum and arra on one weapon is a union of their ideals: a safe trip in the pursuit of truth.

Tianpeng's Spade
This Ming-era weapon is called Tianpeng's Spade (Tianpeng chan, 天蓬鏟). You'll recall that Tianpeng was the name of Zhu Bajie's previous incarnation, a deity who served as the commander of the celestial navy.
It's funny to me that the god associated with Zhu is associated with a weapon similar to that of Sha Wujing.

A big thank you to the Great Ming Military blog.
