so the other day i was visiting the golden temple (harminder sahib, one of the spiritual centres for sikhism in this country) and i saw a nihang sikh on the way. and damn.

his turban was embellished in silver, with a silver crescent, chains, even his knee length tunic had a silver belt with his khanjar looping around him in a silver chain, and he jingled when he (i’m trying so hard to not use an honorific “they” re: my mother) walked.

that reminds me of my boy hua hua; the history of the nihang sikhs just adds to it. they’re a sort of a religious fighting sect (HUAHUA) and they’re also called akaali (beyond time, subject only to god) and my god does it fit hua cheng. my only question is about how that got introduced to a chinese kid, because indian devotion and religion have a LOT of stuff about belonging to and loving your god (i’ll write another post about it sometime)

Was thinking about how Aragorn and Arwen called their son Eldarion, son of Elves in Quenya, and it seems to me like a big political/cultural statement. It’s very in line with the strong attachment to Númenorean traditions of Gondor and shows that, once more, the line of Kings has strong Elven blood.

And I like to think that Aragorn and Arwen would name their daughters with the same goal, choosing the most blatantly Númenorean/Quenya names they can think of. My personal hc is that their eldest daughter is called Tindómiel, after Elros’ daughter (and consequently Arwen’s cousin), the first princess of Númenor. The other girls could be named after Númenorean queens, like Ancalimë, or noble ladies of the line of Elros.

It makes a lot of sense in the process of restoring the monarchy to return to the older traditions and Aragorn takes a new Quenya name, Elessar (Elf-stone), as his ruling name. The name of his House is Telcontar (which means Strider in Quenya and makes me very emotional whenever I think of it), to further enforce the tradition.

There is no information about the following kings of Gondor, but I really think that they would follow pretty strongly these naming conventions, at least the first few kings. I also want to believe that the laws of succession in Gondor are the same as Númenor’s were and it means that the eldest child of a monarch inherit the throne no matter of gender. I need a Ruling Queen of Gondor.

I find it mildly entertaining that up against the rest of the batclan, dick seems like the guiding light, the golden child, the heart of the family whose known for his empathetic nature, self sacrificing to a fault if they had to name a flaw

but then set up against the wider superhero community, especially the OG Titans, all of his worst traits peek through, he seems more calculating, more manipulative, full of control issues and neuroses, all of his bat tendencies show up more clearly when he’s not surrounded by other bats

and people still love him

it’s honestly a miracle that he is so well liked and respected in the hero community when many of them have been there since the beginning, they’ve seen him pull the same sort of shit that bruce would again and again

and from what I’ve gathered, opinions on bruce range from “casual friends after working together for a long time” to “begrudging respect and trust in his abilities” to “seriously disliking him as both a hero and person” and so many heroes, even those he considers close, wildly vary between these options

do the titans love and trust dick more than his own family? no comment.

but do they see him at his worst and still consider him inherently worth loving and trusting? absolutely.

that being said. a lot of the people who committed atrocities in cql/mdzs basically got to live peacefully and in power long after their victims died and wwx and the wens just had to be okay with that and move on with their lives, and I see that reflected in modern AUs quite often and I do understand why, BUT as awful as it was, part of me always yearns for the wwx who followed and terrorized wen chao for months and then tortured him to death. I don't really see that wwx in fics. bc it wasn't GOOD but it was a legitimate part of his character and imo a very understandable response to the murder of his family, his own torture, and the conquest of his home. and while he had to be, in the end, a very gracious and forgiving person, he also exhibited that vengeful cruelty in some of the most brutal and horrifying scenes in the series, and I like to see that represented as well

#he contains multitudes #in modern AUs there a lot of thorny legal issues and the culture is also quite different #esp since in canon wwx had zero problem with being straighforward and upfront abt his intentions and actions #but if he openly admitted to murder and torture in a modern AU he'd be in. fucking jail or something #but like.
