YESSS it fits them so well. So here’s some Protective Big Brother Barry:

“Are you even sorry for what you did?” Barry spat. “To all of us, to Cisco…to Morgan—”

“To Morgan?” Thawne chuckled. “Is being a protective father such a crime n—”

"Cut the shit, Thawne. What you did goes way beyond that, and you know it.”

Thawne’s easy smile fell into a scowl. “If you’re referring to my intervention in your…friendship with my dear daughter, I was simply trying to teach her a lesson. That one day, when the chips are down…you’ll let her down. You’ll fail her.”

“Never.” Never again.

“Never?” Thawne repeated with an incredulous chuckle. “Really? You were so keen to hate her just a few months ago…what’s changed now?”

Barry looked away. “I was stupid then. I didn’t…I trusted your opinion of her so much that I lost my own good sense. It’s not a mistake I’ll ever make again.”

“Hmm. Keep telling yourself that, Flash.”

Barry scowled, looking back at him. “So that’s it then?”

Thawne arched an eyebrow. “I’m not sure what you m—”

“Are you even capable of feeling any sort of regret?!” There was more that Barry could bring up, more crimes that he could hurl at Thawne’s feet—neglecting Morgan, all the murder, Nora Allen in particular while he was trying to kill a child—but if he couldn’t even take responsibility for this…

“I will never,” Thawne said slowly, “ever regret anything I do for Morgan. For my Starli—”

“Do not,” Barry hissed, “call her—”

“I’ll call my daughter whatever I please, Flash.”

“You don’t have a daughter. Not anymore.”

“I’ll believe that,” Thawne replied calmly, glancing up at the camera with a soft smile, “when I hear it from her.”

I just can’t work out who was transformed by powerful unknown magics and I’m going to groan when I get it.

Director’s cut for the Speedster Siblings series? 👀

I did have fun writing Speedster Siblings, I think that's why it so very quickly went from a single fic to get the idea out to "oh no I've written another one". As I said in the opening note, it happened because I was reading your excellent reaching up to touch the sky (this is a fic rec for everyone else) while writing Gone in a Flash and a brief "this would be so different if Barry had a Morgan" thought (which was only added to by those other conversations we had post posting Gone in a Flash). And I couldn't add a Jesse to that fic because, much as Gone in a Flash Barry absolutely needed to not be so alone, I think things only went that way for him because he was alone.

Although it has the same set up of Eobard adopting Barry (this time alongside Wally, and with Jesse already adopted by the real Harrison Wells before Eobard killed him), there weren't actually any points in writing where the thought process was how would Gone in a Flash change if Barry wasn't alone, I think that's an entirely different story, and I think that's influenced by Eobard in Speedster Siblings when Jesse, Wally, and Barry are young he actually bothers to act the part of a good father.

He isn't one, of course, because good fathers don't make plans to betray their children, but he acts the part. I think Eobard Thawne wants love, and in Speedster Siblings, at the start, he actually has it, but he's so convinced he can never keep it he throws it away and then the rest is him realising no what he had before was better and wanting it back, but even right to the end he doesn't want to acknowledge it was his fault, he doesn't regret what he's done, just regrets what he's lost.

I think throughout the entire series, Eobard is acting a part when it comes to being a father, he's not really thinking of anyone other than himself, which is why there's so much almost missing? There's a handful of points of view from Barry and Jesse (the Crisis fic was actually meant to open with Wally's, but when I sat down to write it felt better ending with Barry, and Wally got most of it off his chest yelling at Eobard earlier on), but pretty much everything that isn't about Eobard Thawne is glossed over. Joe dies in this series and it's a fleeting mention because why would Eobard care about that, he's Wally's dad. Series 2 and series 3 are completely different in this series, there's no Singularity at the end of s1 because the trio just send Eobard home, Hunter Zoloman is the FBI agent from Earth-1 sent to investigate Harrison Wells' disappearance who ends up giving himself powers and becoming Zoom to push Wally to being a better hero (possibly still briefly kidnapping Jesse and definitely still breaking Barry's back to motivate Wally) because Wally deserves better than being in the shadow as Kid Flash instead of equally the Flash (ignoring Barry doesn't think of Wally and Jesse as his sidekicks, just his little siblings he's always going to protect, and both Wally and Jesse think of themselves as Barry's sidekicks because he's their big brother and they love him, Jesse just goes by Jesse Quick because she's not being Flash Girl or something). Barry travels to Earth-2 still, only it's just the one with the real Jay Garrick, the one the show called Earth-3, there's no Earth-2 as the show had it, there's no Harry because Jesse's on Earth-1 and I do not think it is possible to have Harry and not have him as her father, especially in s2 being Jesse's father so important to his character

And series 3, Savitar closer to the comic one, he's not a Barry, he's Jesse's villain like Eobard was Barry's and Zoom was Wally's, this is where Jesse finds out about her parents being Johnny Quick and Liberty Bell, Jesse might even start going by Liberty Bell (it's a little more of a secret identity than Jesse Quick, and there is a slightly bitter taste left by the first person to call her Jesse Quick was Eobard), Wally might become the Flash instead of Kid Flash, but Eobard wasn't there, barring his brief jaunts back to start weaseling his way back into their lives by acting as a "guardian angel" on occasions, so none of this came up (and those trips back are what first clock the Renegades onto him)

There is just so much extra that did not make it into this series because Eobard Thawne is a self-centered prick, but it also means Eobard's entire story ends up being this tiny snapshot in Barry, Wally, and Jesse's lives, there's so much other than him in there, and that's good for them in the long run. They're always going to have conflicted feelings about him because he was their dad and they did love him and part of them did want him to mean it, they did want to be able to love him again, but Eobard ruined the chances of that the night he put that yellow suit back on in the very first fic.

Another fanfic idea imagine spot.

So it's getting close to the endgame of S1, but Eobard's in a different place mentally. He's regretful, wishes he could stay, he's not really sure he's actually got anything to go back to... but he can't stop his plan. It's too late, or so he keeps telling himself.

And of course, Team Flash has collected all the evidence and it points towards Eobard murdering Nora Allen followed by Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan to take Wells' place. It all adds up... until reporter Iris West (who has been filled in a bit earlier than canon about Barry's whole Flash thing) points out the timeline doesn't hold up.

Which is where things go from mildly AU to very AU. Eobard remembers things in that order, of course. But while the 'autobiography' he wrote (mostly outlined, his ghostwriter did the rest) has the wrong date for the car accident where Tess Morgan died... the real date is in the police report, which Iris takes note of even when everyone else's eyes just kinda... slide right over, seeing what they expect to see.

But suddenly they're dealing with a timeline that's doing things backwards. Eobard kills Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan, takes over Wells' life... and only then kills Nora? Why? He couldn't have known he'd need Wells for a cover story until after killing Nora.

Sprinkling in flashbacks from Eobard's point of view that are increasingly not lining up. Like waking up in the hospital thinking he was the real Wells directly after the accident. Which was just days before Nora Allen's murder. The closer he got to the accelerator going active, the more likely he was to remember he was Eobard Thawne... and not remember that he'd been believing himself to be the real Wells even just seconds earlier. Foreshadowing of something on the back of his neck that heats up when the shift happens. It's not really a split personality either, as his personality itself stays constant. Just his memories and understanding of his own identity changes.

And then Barry theorizes that the reason the blood of his older self was found in the house, but not another speedster's, was because the older Barry was the only speedster in the house that night. The second speedster - the Reverse Flash - had been an illusion. So why does the real Reverse Flash think he was there?

And who really killed Nora Allen?

When Barry confronts Eobard and insists the timeline of events is backwards, Eobard ends up collapsing. Caitlin's examination turning up tech that made him appear to be paralyzed to conventional scans... but also something hidden at the base of his skull - the back of his neck - that caused Eobard to pass out when he got too close to guessing the truth.

It's all massively advanced technology creating the illusion - and fabricating the memories to go with it - to make it appear the Reverse Flash tried to kill the Flash and murdered his mother instead. And Cisco comments about how all sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Cue Abra Kadabra annoyed that after all his hard work, setting up the future allies to be enemies fighting to the death instead, that his greatest enemies figured it out anyway. But while it was less satisfying to put them against each other, with one down and the other two new to his powers to know what he's doing... best time to strike, right?

Kadabra shows off with his magic-esque tech and comes close to killing Barry just like he boasted he would. When Eobard finally wakes up and comes to Barry's aid at the last second. Kadabra scarpers, but leaves behind a device that mimics the appearance of a speedster. The Man in the Lightning Barry had seen that night was a hologram.

It still leaves unanswered how the fight played out in the Allen home from the future Barry's PoV. And while Eobard's real memories are starting to filter in, spending fifteen years thinking himself to be someone else or an evil version of himself... its taken a toll. He struggling to know who he really is underneath it all. Barry's ally? Or enemy?

An epilogue + foreshadowing S2 AU would have Barry and Eobard traveling to the future together and meeting Robern (Eobard breaking down crying because he thought he'd killed Robern thanks to Kadabra's false memories). The future Flash museum depicting the Flash and Reverse Flash side by side as a statues together and the time traveling Abra Kadabra noted as one of their most difficult enemies. And over on present day E2, Zoom races through a breach to come to a stop on the E1 docks at midnight, dragging with him the first challenge he intends to send after the Flash...

I think the challenger here would be having the Abra Kadabra reveal not come out of nowhere. It'd be Iris/Eddie with hints of pre-Barry/Eobard. And it would have to drop the Eobard killed Cisco thing - replace it with Eobard simply keeping Cisco from contacting Barry, since he knew Caitlin would keep the abandoned wheelchair quiet even if Barry called because Barry would need help with the latest crisis first. Nasty truths could wait, but of course they were too close to when Barry was most likely going to time travel for the first time - Eobard having recognized what the 'mirage' Barry had seen before really meant. Caitlin wouldn't get the chance she was waiting for if she contacted Barry, while Cisco would, of course, just bulldoze through and tell Barry the truth whether he had time to hear it or not. So all Eobard needs to do is keep Cisco from contacting Barry until the timeline resets.

With the alt timeline murder amended to threats and maybe a minor kidnapping, Eobard's a lot less likely to be on Cisco's shit list when the dust clears. But it's still a traumatic enough event for his powers to immediately connect to after the equally traumatic kidnapping by two Snarts (and a Rory).

And of course the overall plot fits the magic trick of 'hypnotizing' someone into behaving in a way they wouldn't normally or thinking they're someone (or something) they aren't really.

Eddie wakes up, seemingly thirty years in the future with a false life the negative speed force set up for him. Even as he tries to piece things together, the negative speed force keeps whispering about how he needs to be its avatar and it can help him get his life back.

Eddie wasn't sure exactly what he'd been expecting.  His family had gone to church, mostly just because it was what his father wanted to do. like everything, it was a political choice, for appearances. Eddie'd never really bothered to pay attention to things, or think too deeply about death, or eternity, or any of that.  It hadn't been a priority, and then when it had, he simply hadn't had the time, between gunshot and darkness. Angels and clouds, maybe. or some infinite emptiness, stretching out. or maybe nothing at all.

He wasn't expecting a hospital bed, with stiff white sheets. Or a doctor calling him a different name. 

"Eddie," he said, correcting the person in the white coat who'd just called him something his ringing ears hadn't quite parsed. Mason? Morgan? Malcolm? Something with too many Ms and not enough Es. "Thawne."

"You've had a brain trauma," the doctor said, in a tone too sweet to be real. "It's no wonder you're confused."

"I'm not confused. I'm ..." he stopped. Saying that he was dead wasn't going to help his case."

You're not dead, something that was not his own said in the back of his head, and Eddie jumped, feeling his chest scream at the movement. Eddie. Let me help you.

"Who are you?" he asked, realizing too late he'd spoken too soon. 

"I'm Dr. Rosso," the man said, moving closer. He was older, maybe sixty, maybe sixty five, Eddie would have guessed.  His hair was silvering. Eddie didn't recognize him, but then again, why would he?

You should, said the voice. It sounded like his father. It sounded like Eobard. It sounded like himself.. If they had not taken everything from you, you'd have met him. A version of him, anyways.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Uh. It's just my name," the man said, his teeth flashing. "How are you feeling, aside from the confusion. Any pain?"

"Yeah," Eddie said. "I ... gunshot..."

"Gunshot? No. The chart says..." Dr. Russo started flipping through. Eddie didn't care. whoever's name was on the chart, that wasn't him. That didn't matter. What mattered was that he was alive. And if he was alive, then so was....

That's right. Through you, the rest of the Thawnes, and all the evil they create. We can stop them. We can get back. Let me help you.

Eddie had sat through exactly one lord of the rings extended edition marathon with Iris and Cisco while they waited for Barry to wake up. once had been more than enough to make alerts, as red as the lightning behind his eyes when he squeezed them shut, start blaring.

Plot:

The movie starts with Barry and Iris placing flowers at Nora’s grave. Barry still struggles with her unsolved murder and tells Iris he wasn’t fast enough. He trying to keep his emotions bottled up and Iris tells him he’s okay and that his mom would love the man he became.

Barry turns to Iris only to find she’s gone and everything around him isn’t as it seems. Barry shoots up from his desk and is confused. Captain Singh asks him has he finally woken up from his nap and tells him to get to his case files.

Barry leaves and find his mom in the lobby and it slowly becomes clear what’s going on.

He arrives to Gotham and goes to a abandoned Wayne Manor and enters the Batcave to find it in a less then state of the art state.

He is confronted by Thomas Wayne Batman. And is forced to explain his business and recently agrees to help him get his abilities back.

Meanwhile is the South of France Wonder Woman and the Amazons are in a brutal battle with human military as rogue Atlantans. Artemis one of Wonder Woman’s lieutenants slaughters Aquaman’s spy Tula. She brings her body to Wonder who tells them they must find Aquaman and end this.

After several different variations of the experiment to give Barry’s powers back he finally gets them back and saves Batman from nearly dying.

Hal Jordan is asked by a he President to fly a alien spacecraft into outer space. He noticed something in a sealed crate labeled Lanterns. He decides to check it out when the coast is clear.

Aquaman rises from the Sea and his army makes landfall in South America where his forces are met with resistance from Lex Luthor and Deathstroke’s militia. They are both defeated,but Lex’s sends his last known location by his watch in his last few minutes of life.

Iris West in this timeline is running through New Themyscira. She is on the run from Amazons who are ordered to kill her. A flash of yellow lighting swiftly murders the Amazon warriors and she meets several resistance members who are sent by Zatanna to help her escape.

Hal finds Aquaman’s underwater fortress in the Artic and attempts to fire the nano-bomb but is quickly shot down by Aquaman tank and then killed.

Batman,Flash and Cyborg arrive at a warehouse in Metropolis and break into it to find a sickly and imprisoned version of Superman. They free him and Superman not being able to use his powers kills the US Military and along with several scientists.

Iris West is being prepared to go into battle with Zatanna and several other heroes,villains and other members of the Resistance. Zatanna tells her team that this may be there last nights alive but they will fight for their freedom and put an end to this war.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman rage war in Europe and it’s brutal.

The resistance intercepts Wonder and Aquaman with Cyborg and Flash taken Aquaman and Hawkgirl arrives and fights Wonder Woman.

Batman is taken on both sides and saves Barry from a killing blow from Aquaman.

Barry rushes him to a nearby building where and bloody and in pain Thomas Wayne tells him to fix this universe.

Before Barry can react he’s attacked by Thawne. The two chase each other before Barry his beaten and forced to watch the deaths of Zatanna, Cyborg,Hawkgirl,etc. it’s only Batman’s single shot from the gun that killed Bruce that stops Thawne’s beating. And with his last few moments he gives Barry a Letter and tells him to give it to Bruce. And he promises to do that.

Barry weakly begans to walk, then jog and finally run and enters the speed force where he sees so many different realities. He runs until he sees everything around him shatter and is sucked into a wormhole with Barry running at the fast he can run.

He ends up back at his desk. Iris walks up to him and ask is he okay and that she hadn’t seen him since last night when he ran out of the cemetery. He hugs her tells her he’s so happy to see her and glad to find everything is normal. He tells her that he has a stop to make.

He arrives at Wayne Manor and knocks on the door and Dick Grayson answers he asks Dick to see Bruce. Dick looks at him confused and tells him that it’s not cool to joke like that. He asks Dick to elaborate and Dick unsurely tells him Bruce Wayne is Dead.

That’s the main flow of my version of Flashpoint. And now onto the effects/changes.

Batfamily:

Bruce Wayne was originally played by Ryan Guzman but is being recasted to Oliver Jackson-Cohen for the remainder of the DCU. Some of the Batfamily is being recasted.

Recast:

Dick Grayson; will be played by Josh Heuston

Jason Todd Red Hood will now be played by Wolfgang Novogratz.

Stephanie Brown will now be played by Teagan Croft.

Bailee Madison, Miles Brown and Pierce Brosnan will continue to play, Barbara Gordon, Duke Thomas, and Alfred Pennyworth respectively.

A Cassandra Cain film is next for my DCU Phase 4 slate and she is also recasted she will now be played by Ashley Liao . Tim Drake will briefly appear in the Cassandra Cain Movie and he will be portrayed by Louis Patridge from now on.

Damian Wayne now exist in this timeline and will be portrayed by Mystic Inscho.

Superfamily:

The Superfamily is relatively the same with an exceptions. The first, is that Clark Kent and Lois Lane are now married the two were already on track to a relationship but now the timeline has sped the whole process up. Also, we’ll Jon.

Aquaman:

Arthur Curry and Mera got married and Mera is excepting their first child.

Green Lanterns:

Hal Jordan is no longer a Green Lantern at the moment. John Stewart is the current Green Lantern of Earth. Kyle Rayner is the newest addition to the Lantern Corp.

Other Changes:

Most of the hero films are still cannon except for the Batman projects are loosely cannon but not as much as the other heroes projects.

The new Justice League main lineup is as followed: Superman,Batman,Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter and soon to be member Hawkgirl.(She was in the Flashpoint universe and is now brought into the main continuity.)

Aquaman is still a member however he will be focusing on her Kingdom for a while.

Zatanna and Constantine are forming the Justice League Dark.

Other groups are also beginning to take form like the Suicide Squad and will be shown in later phases.

“I know that look, Johnny Lawrence - something’s been brewing for the past week and it’s probably a bad idea.”

“Hear me out - you know that kid, Miguel?”

“Considering he lives opposite, yeah, I do.”

This is from the first part of the CK era of the Nicky Connors series, in which 36 years of friendship with this doofus means she can sense chaos approaching - this is just before he outlines his plan to re-open Cobra Kai...and promptly asks her if she’ll be his co-Sensei.

☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?

I have a few, but I’m going to talk about my Arrow AU I’ve had for years - a divergant universe in which Rebecca Merlyn lives after she’s saved by 14-year- old Meg Morgan, a street rat from the glades (and yet another OC, I know) who stops to help because which obviously changes...a lot of things. For starters, Malcolm doesn’t go off the deep end - though he’s appalled that it was left to a 14-year-old to help someone with a gunshot wound, and why does a teenager even know how to deal with that anyway? So it kinda forces him to really face the reality of things in the Glades.

The more immedtiate fact is that there’s now a traumatised teenager with a target on her back because turns out it wasn’t a random mugging but a gang initiation - that does get dealt with, but saving Rebecca kinda means she can’t return to the Glades. Neither Malcolm or Rebecca are willing to just let her be dropped into the foster system cos Starling’s foster system isn’t great so they just kinda...take her in. They don’t officially adopt her for a few years (they leave that up to her cos she’d be the one affected) but basically Meg Morgan becomes Teri Merlyn when she’s 16/17, and the cool older sister to Tommy.

Sometimes things are inevitable, though, and the Queen’s Gambit still sinks because turns out, Robert Queen has a lot of enemies. Oliver and Sara are still on board...and so’s Teri, because in this ‘verse Oliver and Sara were never in a relationship, Sara just wanted to get away from her family for a while and Teri suggested this idea as an option. Long story short (cos I haven’t worked out a lot of the details) the boat sinks, Oliver, Teri, and Sara end up on the Island and have their struggles but three, not five, years (and different struggles to the ones they had in the show), and still find out from Robert about the city’s corruption, and when they come back become the Green Arrow, Dark Archer, and Black Canary respectively, and the rest of the story deals with them trying to fit back in with their families while being secret vigilantes (Moira, the Merlyns, and the Lances do eventually find out).

There’s a number of reasons why this story hasn’t got off the ground - mainly that these days I struggle to see Malcolm Merlyn as ever being a good father, even after seeing his good Earth-2 counterpart, so the initial reason for writing this fic (because I do love writing a good parent-child relationship) isn’t really there anymore. Plus this was originally intended to be part of a connected multiverse with my other Arrowverse OCs - Steph Taylor, Brianna Thawne, and lately Eliana Kent, with the original intention this ‘verse being a seperate Earth altogether, except I’m not even sure that’s happening either, so while it’s an interesting concept, and I’d like to explore Rebecca’s character, I just don’t really know how to go about it, and I’m no longer sure what to do with this idea. I tried to pave the way for this idea with my two Arrow AUs for flufftober 2021, but that didn’t go anywhere either so...this fic has really been put to the side.
