I was saddened to hear about the passing of accomplished toy designer T. Mark Taylor this past weekend. He was responsible for so many of the iconic designs of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Toy line in the early 1980s. He had also later worked on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle line as well. What a tremendous talent and imagination. Here is a tribute drawing based on his design for Demon-Man who later became Skeletor. Larry DiTillio died on Friday, but I'm only just now hearing about it (which shows you how up to date I am on current events). For those who don't know, Mr. DiTillio literally wrote the book on She-ra...as in, the series bible. He basically created most of the characters on that show. He also wrote scores of episodes of both the classic He-man series, and the 2002 reboot, as well as the Secret of the Sword movie that introduced She-ra. Thank you for all of the stories that you gave us 80's kids, Mr. DiTillio. You truly did have the power. I haven't had a chance to make any new She-ra art to commemorate his passing as of yet, so here's a Hordak I did a while back that will have to do until I get a chance to create some new art. This art is my tribute (in my goofy style) to the super cool “the Power of He-Man” video game advertisement in 1983. The game was issued by Mattel Electronics for the Atari 2600 and Intellivision. I always saw the ad in comic books back then. If anyone is curious, look for the original ad online! I never owned or played this game on my Atari, but whenever I see the ad it takes me back to simpler times.
