Sonja’s sister’s wedding had gone off without a hitch, to her intense relief. She’d already known it would, but there was always nervousness and tension lingering at events where humans and mutants mixed together, particularly emotional events like a wedding. Luckily nothing had gone awry, none of the groom’s human family was intimidated by Sonja and her sister’s Selene’s more obvious avian mutant traits or those of their family members. Many had commented how serene Selene looked, the same with Sonja with a different sort of reverence as she was the head of their family’s empire and the one to have given her sister away to her new brother-in-law Michael.

It had looked like an angel had come to give her sister away, to those that had never seen her before. But she didn’t care, she’d kissed her new brother on the cheek and told him to take good care of her sister, even though she trusted him wholeheatedly to keep Selene happy.

Sonja surveyed the guests enjoying the reception and their dinner, noting many faces she recognized from the news or tabloids. She hid a smile behind her glass of wine, glad that the black gloves she’d opted to wear hid her talons from view. She didn’t want to draw any attention to herself, her sister deserved the spotlight. But it was hard to ignore the elephant in the room when it had a large pair of wings attached to her back, and a young child she kept soothing their fussing.

Sonja had sent them off to collect the pair of them a slice of cake each, watching them toddle off before something caught her eye. Or rather, someone very familiar from her past. Her back stiffened and her wings ruffled, and the mutantess began wondering if she should simply apologize to her sister, collect her child and fly home before she was corned.

Brock Rumlow. She’d not ran into him personally for about five years, ever since that damned one night stand. Her grip tightened on her class, the cyrstal fracturing under the force of it. He looked damned good, she had to admit, as much as it pained her to. There was no avenue for escape now, he was walking towards her and her sister had caught her eye and given her an encouraging smile. Sonja narrowed her eyes, immediately suspicious that her sister might have orchestrated this, and vowing she’d return the favour if she had.

She composed herself quickly, loosening her grip on the glass before she broke it and gave Brock a polite but cold smile, unsure of what he wanted from her.

“Brock Rumlow. It’s been a while hasn’t it? How have you kept?”
