Ohhhh I have put this off for so long because naming favourite artists feels like such a big responsibility!! But I will name some I've been especially fond of lately, at the very least! Here's a selection of just twenty amazing artists/creators that I've been admiring in just the last few weeks:

And the thing is, is I could also easily draw up whole paragraphs of why I love each of these artists, but then I get very worried that I am going to make it look like I love some artists more than others, and then I get very stressed so I'm not going to do that, at least not this time around.

Also please know that I could easily name another thirty that I love at least. There are so many great artists in this fandom and my terrible short term memory gave me these names first! But my fanart, edit, manip, and fan comic tags are full of them! Also twitter is very very scary but my twitter is almost exclusively retweeted fanart. ALSO also everyone in my following tab on my instagram are or have been at some point 1D fanartists!

My Policeman mini review: It was okay but i felt it lacked something and was rather boring but rushed at the same time. All the six main actors did fine job and had good chemistry with each others but i didn’t feel emotional connection to the characters. I think i actually liked DWD better because it was more entertaining and visually interesting. This was still watchable though and had good and sweet moments. I’m increasingly feeling like the foreboding Harry Styles Backlash has just compeletely clouded some people’s mind because these both were such mid movies with mid-to-solid performances and yet people even professional critics acted like they and especially Harry himself personally murdered their mothers... like was this level of mass hysteria over something so average really necessary

"gifs = art" could you please elaborate on that besides the skill that goes into it?

🫥 i have no idea why people are looking to me to explain something that has been repeated by many gifmakers and content creators for *years* and should be common sense anyways but...

beyond the skill that goes into gifmaking (the time it takes, the practice required, etc.) the different colorings, typography, blending and other proccesses that some gifmakers use in their creations absolutely can and should be considered an artform. look no further than the gorgeous gifsets some of my very talented mutuals have made:

@yenvengerberg becca's colorful sets are art as far as i'm concerned! like just look at this. she transforms the media she gifs and makes it look completely unreal in terms of sheer beauty and creativity.

@sith-maul one of the best creators on this site. nik is just so so talented. everything she creates is so stunning; you can't look at a set like this, for example, and tell me that it isn't art.

@hoe-biwan again, everything that flo posts is beyond incredible. i don't even watch star wars and i still silently nod my head and gape in awe when one of her sw sets is on my dash. just scroll through the comic book-inspired sets flo's made!!! that's art <3

@buffysummers ok alexandra is such a talented creator and a HUGE inspiration for me when i started giffing years ago. her eye for coloring and scene picking is out of this world! this is a recent set of hers that i particularly adore.

these are just a few examples, but if you scroll through my own blog or the various edit tags for fandoms, you would see more of what i'm talking about. there are so many talented gifmakers and editors on this site who take time out of their busy lives to create for us, and it breaks my heart when their work is discredited or disregarded or underappreciated. for their work to be invalidated and not considered art when it very much is? not only is it rude, it further demotivates creators from contributing to the site and makes them feel like nothing they create is good enough - believe me, i know that feeling all too well.

i've made extremely detailed and color-specific sets before like these, and it took me 3-4 WEEKS. EACH. i'm not exaggerating in the slightest. and since posting them, they've already been reposted here on tumblr and on other sites like pinterest, twitter, instagram, etc. if you even have like a shred of empathy you can understand why that would anger and upset me.

i don't know why people assume that gifmakers copy and paste the same 5 settings on their gifs, export them, and call it a day - it's not that simple at all. so much more goes into making gifs, and the majority of people on this site continue to laugh in our faces, steal the edits we spent so much time and energy on, belittle our work and claim that it isn't art (and friendly reminder! we do this free of charge and ask for nothing in return beyond clicking the reblog button, and so many of you can't even do that much). i shouldn't have to sit here and validate any of that - the creations should speak for themselves. you consider fanvids, fanart and graphics "art" - so why not gifs, which make up the majority of the edits on this site and, in theory, help foster/sustain discussion and fandom?

reposters all run up and down claiming that gifmaking "isn't that difficult" with zero experience... yet if they tried it themselves, they would know that's so far from the truth. and they DO know that deep down, or they wouldn't steal our gifs from us in the first place if gifs were that easy to make 💀

Daily Dragon #63 - Seal Dragon

These large, semi aquatic dragons are often seen basking on rocky shores. When hungry, the largest in a pack will swim into the ocean, hunt large animals like whales, and bring them back to shore for the whole pack to eat

I had a concept for a walrus like dragon but ultimately this isn't exactly what I had in mind. However, I do kinda like it! So you can expect to see at least one more seal-esc dragon in the future i guess lol

Daily Dragon #64 - Flying Dragon

As the name suggests, these dragons are ALWAYS in flight! They only land when they need to sleep, but are actually able to go surprisingly long times without needing any rest at all. Sometimes even multiple days!

Up and early with dragons these last few days aha Another redraw! I keep seeing it while looking at the other dragons for a hot minute so I wanted to tackle it too! I think it's actually from 2011-2012 like the Ghouldrogon because... Well they were on the same sheet of paper!

Daily Dragon #65 - Magon

The first Wario dragon! There's actually quite a few in his series. Lately I've been thinking about Wario Land/World/MoD for a while now. They're some of my favorite games and it might honestly be time for me to replay them

I played all the Wario games back in highschool so it's been a hot hot minute. But I really do like them all. They're all good as hell even (especially) Master of Disguise which is so underappreciated

Daily Dragon #66 - Snoozozaur

This dragon lives and breathes for one thing and one this only: sleeping! Rarely ever waking up, only for occasional food and water, they can actually sleep walk and sleep fight using what scientists believe to be some type of psychic ability. Additionally, they can levitate! Meaning they can comfortably sleep ANYWHERE!

Daily Dragon #67 - Shrine Dragon

This dragon is frequently seen guiding heroes of all kinds to temples and shrines important to their quests. If you're looking for a secret dungeon in a large area and spot one flying in the sky, it's in your best interest to follow it!

Daily Dragon #68 - Green Dragon

Thank you for all your amazing monsters and characters over the years, Mr. Toriyama!!

The more I keep thinking about it the more it's making me sad. Chrono Trigger's character designs were SO influential on me growing up. And the design for Arasu is SO important to RPG protagonists that I had OCs inspired by him before I even saw the character. And yeah, of course, Blue Dragon has always been a very important game to me even when I was a tiny child who couldn't afford an Xbox 360.

Daily Dragon #69 - Cuddlodon

A dragon that just loves being friendly and playful! They have some very basic combat skills like small fire balls and teeth, but why would you ever want to fight one? Come on, don't be mean to them :(

Really really low energy today. I wanted to do a Super Mario RPG celebration dragon, but I have something big in mind for the SMRPG dragon so I want to save it for when I'm less busy. Instead, today I redrew this fella from 2012: The Cuddly Dragon!

And of course, in 2024 (that's 12 years later holy hell!!) they come in multiple colors :)

there's this thing with critical role (and RP shows in general but most of my experience is with CR,) where you are aware that you are watching both a narrative unfold in real-time, but that it is also being done through a group of people who are also having fun, and making jokes, and are really tuned in for the moment

and so because of this, sometimes things in-game happen because someone at the table was feeling a little sillay, and sometimes that has long-term ramifications (🦌🐟). and sometimes it's a spur of the moment thing that could be important, but there are a lot of important things going on, and so it gets pushed under the rug

it also doesn't help that sessions are at least a week apart, and it just seems difficult to carry too much negative energy between characters week-to-week. If this were all happening consecutively to a written character, they'd feel the frustrations pile up fast. but there's a lot of breathing room between all of the small things, and unless someone deliberately keeps note of those things and repeatedly brings them up (bard's lament), they do kind of just get dropped.

and so you end up with people who are just like. waiting for imogen to tear orym apart because he gave laudna a beat of approval for the bor'dor incident. you end up with people who spent the entirety of late CR2 waiting for the nein to reckon with how they mistreated, or at least underappreciated, caduceus. (🙋‍♀️)

and on the one hand it's like, yeah, these actions could have consequences. and it'd be really great if that did get explored in canon. but it's also funny going from scathing twitter threads about the weak, fractal connections of these characters that are sure to blow up in their face, and then the next episode imogen is giving orym a piggyback ride through the sky.

#critical role #for the record i dont think either side is doing it 'wrong' i just think the dissonance is fascinating #there's also the time between recording and eps dropping- what fans are digging into today #has been old news to the cast for weeks- and now they have to purposely create a moment to circle back to it #tbh i think the that really played into essek in CR2. going from 'welcome to the mighty nein!' (cheers) #to beau calling him a war criminal
