WAIT. you guys know that one saying that goes like "the moon is beautiful, isn't it? / 月が綺麗ですね?" ... now why can i imagine every single bsd ship with that saying (specifically soukoku, it sounds so dazai ... like he's looking at the moon thinking about a double suicide with chuuya because of how beautiful the view is. he's looking at the moon and at chuuya).
ALSO HOW DID I JUST FIND OUT THAT NATSUME SOSEKI IS THE ONE WHO PROPOSED THIS EXPRESSION. WHAT DID I MISS OUT ON??? WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME ABOUT THIS

The three generations of Double Black and their purpose, or lack thereof
In honor of my birthday, I was planning on making an analysis of whichever character has a birthday closest to mine. However, it seems like my birthday falls directly in between Natsume’s and Mori’s birthday (February 9th and 17th respectively, with my birthday being February 13th).
Which means I gotta combine the two and turn this into a closer look at the three generations of Double Black.
[for the sake of clarity I’ve decided to use “double black” here instead of soukoku, since soukoku is used more in reference to the ship than the duo]
Please note that I’m getting a lot of information from the bsd wiki, which I know isn’t always so accurate, but going through every chapter and light novel with Natsume or mention of the original framework he set up would not be a doable amount of work for me to complete today.
Natsume is still a figure of mystery in the BSD universe. We don’t know much about him—although he’s seen as some ultimate “good” in the sense that anything he says or does is considered “correct” by the characters he has interacted with. Although it may sound extreme, he’s practically deified. Both Fukuzawa and Mori, two characters who are strong leaders and do not often take orders from others, would readily abide by Natusme’s wishes.
The framework he created—the tripartite framework—is something that they both agree MUST be abided by. The framework itself is questionable—the basis of it was to handle the issue of the extreme rise in criminal activity post-war. Rather than working towards curbing crime in any more standard way, his solution is having a guy working for him in the criminal underworld, and attempt to put a stop to the worst kinds of crimes through him.
Fukuzawa, being a former assassin himself, most likely is familiar with and agrees with the concept of some crimes being worse than others, and some people being enough of an evil in the world and enough of a threat that they need to be killed. Remember, he didn’t quit his job as an assassin due to feeling it’s morally wrong to kill; he quit because it’s morally wrong to kill just for the sake of killing. So it’s reasonable enough that he’d find the tripartite framework to be a valid way of handling things, and have no problem with Mori working from the criminal underworld to keep things under control from there.
Regardless of how unheard of this method of crime-stopping is, and how Fukuzawa and Mori’s blind faith in him could be dangerous if he were to be misguided or more morally grey, this method seems to be effective in the bsd world. We see that the mafia has the criminal underground under control, while the agency deals with crime that comes up to the surface, and the government dealing with civilian issues. And regardless of what conflict Mori and Fukuzawa have currently, the tripartite framework is something that they’re both equally invested in and consider necessary.
Out of the (so-called) “three generations,” they are the most successful. They have been working together and fulfilling their shared goal for many, many years. No matter what conflict may come up, the framework is their top priority. They will ensure Yokohama is safe, and they will oversee their respective segments of it. They are both aware of their own roles and have a mutual respect for the other’s role.
Which brings us onto the duo Mori created—double black. As Mori said, he’s forcing them to work together in an attempt to duplicate something Natsume explained to him. Double Black is, at first, Mori’s pet-project or side hobby. It’s formed for nothing more than curiosity at first, but with Chuuya and Dazai’s individual skillsets and abilities, they ended up working together as the feared mafia duo we know them as. This duo works as an extension of Mori’s role in the framework, and because of that it’s certainly not the next part of the tripartite framework. Or rather, it wasn’t when Mori made it, and it wasn’t made with that intention.
After Dazai left the mafia, double black changed. Now it’s no longer a mafia subgroup, because half of it is no longer in the mafia. From an external view, it acts as a dangerous last resort—a final defense against major threats. The people of Yokohama can rest easy, since if everything were to go very wrong, all hope is not lost unless double black is defeated—something that will probably never happen.
But Dazai and Chuuya themselves don’t share the same sentiment. Unlike the original heads of the framework, these two aren’t on the same page about what they’re doing or their duo’s current status. To each of them, it’s just a job. They both want to protect Yokohama, and recognize that Yokohama’s safety is a byproduct of their work—but they don’t see “protecting Yokohama” as their job. It seems like they see each job as a one-off commission work. Their job isn’t “protect Yokohama,” it’s “defeat this one specific enemy and then go home.”
And additionally, they’re on different pages regarding double black’s current status. It seems that Dazai views double black’s inactivity as something that happened due to his absence rather than him defecting—and now that he’s back, so is double black—hence, him referring to Chuuya as his partner. On the other hand, Chuuya views double black’s inactivity as something that happened due to Dazai defecting—double black was a mafia subgroup, after all, so it makes sense that if half of the duo isn’t under mafia employment, the duo cannot be currently active. Hence, him declaring Dazai his “ex-partner.”
As things stand, they’re working more closely to the tripartite framework’s successors, since now they’re (1) positioned at opposite ends of the criminal underworld, and (2) working towards a common goal of protecting Yokohama. However, until they both realize that their official job and duty is protecting Yokohama (rather than that just being a biproduct of their work) and until they both mutually agree to work towards that shared goal together—each on their respective sides of things—they won’t be able to truly be the inheritors of the tripartite framework.
Now for Dazai’s “new generation of double black.” Whether or not Dazai’s fully aware of the tripartite framework, its origins and its purpose is up for debate. And whether he views himself and Chuuya as an extension of that is even more unlikely. So since we can assume he’s basing this “new generation of double black” off of an incomplete picture of what double black was and what it currently is, we know right off the bat it’s going to be flawed.
There’s truly no reason for a “new generation,” especially when the “old” generation is around two years older than them, and significantly more capable and powerful. It’s clear from Dazai’s interactions with them that creating this new generation is both a fun hobby of his, and possibly a way for him to get other people to do jobs he’d be assigned to otherwise. It serves no real greater purpose than that. They’re convenient sometimes, but there are always other ability users who could easily do what they’ve done, but better.
Only half of this new duo even has any idea of what they’re trying to replicate. Akutagawa has a vague idea of what double black was, and strives to mimic what he thinks they do. He doesn’t have a very complete or thorough understanding of them—as he tries to explain to Atsushi, to his knowledge, double black worked as “Dazai is Smart Guy, Chuuya is Strong Guy, they win by being Brain and Brawn.” We see that this isn’t really the case—both Dazai and Chuuya are well-rounded and each are individually capable of both physical combat and strategy. Yet all the new generation has to work off of is this game of broken telephone passed through mafia rumors, to Akutagawa, to Atsushi.
And even so, neither of them understand any real greater purpose to what they’re doing—and it’s unclear if there truly is any purpose to it. They too see it as individual fights rather than a grander purpose, but in their case, they’re right.
And to take it a step further, they aren’t a formal duo in the first place. They never officially formed. They’re just miming the roles that Dazai told them to play with no real understanding of what’d going on. “The new generation of double black” isn’t a title they’ve ever officially been given—sure they’ve been called that by Dazai, but it’s not something that would even go on any paperwork. Their opponents don’t see them as some feared duo, they see them as an unfortunate collaboration they now must deal with. Akutagawa’s outright ditching work to go do these jobs—at least with double black Dazai clearly has some contact through the agency for when he’s assigned to double black/ mafia collaboration missions.
In short, no one outside of Dazai (and possibly Akutagawa) sees any connect between Akutagawa and Atsushi to any former well-known duos.
In summary—the three “generations of double black” were formed for vastly different purposes, and even though double black is converging to align with the tripartite framework, the newest variant of it is way off base.
Natsume will need to step in and sort this out if the newest generation aligns with his wishes, and if not, I think he should step in and sort stuff out anyway—things in the bsd universe have been getting pretty messy for a while now, and it would be nice to have a leader around who both Fukuzawa and Mori would listen to.

I think something I would like to point again as I’m rewatching season three, and obviously, considering the first two episodes are the light novel dazai and chuuya: age 15, I was reminded of this.
We all know the classic “only a diamond can polish a diamond” with it being the name of one of the episodes, however, we all mostly know it from when Kouyou asks if its really a good idea to have dazai and chuuya work together, to which Mori responds “only a diamond can polish a diamond”. But, Mori then goes on to say that Natsume said that about him and Fukuzawa originally.
So while we all associate that saying with soukoku, they saying was originally about zksoukoku. And while I don’t like that ship or Mori, Natsume knew what he was saying about them, and in turn, Mori knew what he was talking about when he then used that saying for dazai and chuuya.
In this essay I will…

20 questions for fic writers!
tagged by my loves @storybookprincess and @clood! ty for the tag friends!! <333
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
40!
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
310,790
3. What fandoms do you write for?
A slapdash of whatever I'm most interested in atm! I kinda consider hxh fandom my home base, but I also have a number of Sandman, HQ, and Natsume Yuujinchou fics.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
gonna take a leaf out of both liv and claudia's books and skip this one! instead, here are my top 5 personal faves instead of kudos :D these are my most recent favorites haha:
streetlights in the dark blue: gomens, ineffable husbands, 6.9k. my s2 vent fic! about healing and giving crowley a loving community, dammit.
circus freak: hxh, hisoillu, 1.8k. murder husbands! proposals! it's all here folks.
blue roses: yuri on ice, gen, yakov & victor, 2.6k. all my love for victor nikiforov through the eyes of his grumpy coach.
a city of love scenario: hxh, killugon, 5k. I had SO much fun writing this one! set during the greed island arc my beloved. hisoka is there.
Let the River Rush In: hxh, leopika, 18k. my submission for the 2023 hxhbb this year! reunions, pining, you name it. also art museums!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
yes!! sometimes it takes me a second, but I do respond to nearly every comment (unless it's spam).
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
definitely dusk, a sandman dreamling fic! MCD isn't usually my thing, but I really wanted to explore that in this fic.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
oooh hmm. "happy ending" is super vague to me ngl, but for most traditionally "and they lived happily ever after," I'll go with my soukoku royalty AU, thy kingdom come.
8. Do you get hate on fic?
oooh I've never gotten explicit hate! I've gotten unsolicited concrit and some more bizarre comments that I've ignored before though haha.
9. Do you write smut?
nope! I've written some more suggestive scenes in some of my fics (Let the River Rush In and circus freak, for example), but for the time being at least I'm not really interested in writing it.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Yes! The Promise of the World, which is a natsuyuu/howl's moving castle crossover, and Letters from Heaven, which is a HQ/Violet Evergarden crossover. Crossovers to me are really fun thought exercises; I like to see how certain events or characters can be interpreted in another canon.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've gotten a request to have one translated, but now that I think about it I never got a link to it! so who knoooows haha
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I can't believe I'm saying this, but no! I think I'd like to one day--it seems really fun :D
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
a cruel question! i can't choose one. well, a bit of a lie given by pfp haha, so I'll just say killugon ahdkdjf
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
oooh, i have a kawoshin fic that lives rent free in my drafts and in my mind. i started it maybe 7 years ago? it is, in theory, a semi-canon compliant multiverse fic that combines manga, anime, and reboot movies canon, all centered around kaworu my beloved and his relationship with shinji. maybe one day I'll pick it up again! (I still need to see the last movie...)
16. What are your writing strengths?
ooh! hmm, I'd probably say interiority? love me some good introspection. a lot of my more recent fics especially are just excuses to dive into my faves' heads while something else happens in the background
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
PLOT lmao. most of my plot-heavy fics are crossovers bc they're based on events that are already lined out for me! which gives me more room to explore how my charas act and interact in an established story. surprise, even my plottier fics are really just character studies in disguise >:3 still, I would like to improve on this one day! just need to think of,,,an idea ajsldkfj
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've never done it before, but like with any kind of writing tool, I think it works if you do it right. no bella, where have you been, loca? pfffft
19. First fandom you wrote for?
the first fandom I've ever posted/written for was Free! Iwatobi Swim Club! what a time ahhhsjdflks
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
my favorite fic is almost always the latest thing I've posted LOL, so rn it's streetlights in the dark blue! lovelovelove anthony j. crowley with all my heart <333
this was so fun!! no pressure tagging uhhhh @perexcri @aboxthecolourofheartache @dodici12 @applepi00 @macavitykitsune @feralrookie @silverinerivers @runawaymarbles @three--rings @that-banhus and literally anyone who reads this and wants to do it!

yuna's bungou stray dogs masterlist
works with [♥] are angsty, [🗡] involve straight-out whump, [☁︎] are fluffy and/or have healing, [🖋] are canon rewrite, [⚠] contain topics such as mature content in them. dazai osamu has seventeen soul-marks, most of which are platonic, and in the short-run of things they do nothing but make his goals to keeping the promise he had made for odasaku impossible- in the long run, however, they are probably the reason he has yet to close his eyes to this world that they are living in. they are probably the only reason that he is still alive...

chuuya leaves after the flags dies and dazai is left behind to watch as he becomes one with the light- till he no longer has to anymore. the first time chuuya leaves, he does it alone- the second time, however, he finds himself dragging dazai along for the journey.

weekly fic recs #27
got a whole 5 fics this week. yeah i haven’t gotten much reading done. also just feel like specifying but whenever i use fusion it means it’s established that the two fandoms exist within the same universe in the first place, while crossover has the dimension hopping n whatnot. (this is just what i use in these lists, and probably isn’t widely recognized but. idk maybe it is.)
fandom(s): bungo stray dogs, my hero academia (a couple crossover fics)
ship(s): soukoku, shin soukoku, kenji/kyouka (idfk what their ship name is), ranpo/yosano (also don’t know theirs), tachigin, and ofc some gen fics
Oneshots
they may see your cracks (but i’ll never let them see you crumble); DeviBlue - bungo stray dogs
not rated | 5.9k words | chuuya/dazai, chuuya & dazai | READ TAGS
summary:
“Despite you are feeling well now, I do have some concerns prompted by Corruption and its lengthy recovery.” He sighed, hiding his smile as both boys stared at him, waiting for him to continue. “When you are so weak, Chuuya-kun, you and Dazai-kun are vulnerable. Even in your own home, an assassination attempt could be made on your lives and the Port Mafia would not know until we found your cold bodies.”
“... Boss?”
Mori continued. “To ensure your safety, I have decided to station guards in your apartment. They will be there all hours of the day every day and work in shifts.”
OR
Mori puts 24-hour guards in Dazai and Chuuya's apartment to monitor them.
That Darn Cat!; BloomingAlyssum - bungo stray dogs
general audiences | 2.4k words | dazai & mori, dazai & hirotsu, dazai & oda, dazai & kunikida, atsushi & dazai, dazai & natsume
summary:
Five times Dazai wants to pet a cat and one time Natsume lets him.
Incomplete
Fate Crumbles Down; FanGirl09 - bungo stray dogs
not rated | 6/? chapters | 24.9k words | there’s so many relationship tags and i am so very tired so here’s the romantic ones, although i’d say they’re definitely not the main focus; chuuya/dazai, akutagawa/atsushi, kenji/kyouka, ranpo/yosano, gin/tachihara | READ TAGS
summary:
What seems to be an intense investigation for the Armed Detective Agency ends up as a survival mission. When a catastrophic magnitude 9.2 earthquake destroys Yokohama mid-case, the group are cut off from each other with no way to know who lives or dies. Emerging from the rubble to their new tilted world, the ADA and Port Mafia struggle to come to terms with the pain and anguish surrounding them--the overwhelming fear that grips their hearts. And on a wild-goose chase for the safety that continues to elude them, they all have one collective goal: to find their way home to each other.
*
If you've read my works before, you know that I like to put focus on side characters as well as the main cast, so if you enjoy that, then you will enjoy this story!
General trigger warning (because I will not be putting one on each individual chapter as these themes will continue through every chapter but the prologue): gruesome injuries, blood, amputations, explosions, fire, severed limbs, death, character deaths, episodes of PTSD, vomit, nightmares, graphic descriptions of earthquake and possible fire victims -- may be more to come as this story continues
The Sticking Point; Anxiety_Pickle - bsd/mha fusion
teen and up | 7/? | 41.5k words | chuuya/dazai, dazai & elise & Q, aizawa & dazai, aizawa & class 1-a, chuuya & kouyou | READ TAGS
summary:
When Nedzu called him to his office for a meeting this morning, with no indication of its subject other than that name, Aizawa knew it was going to be a shitshow, because everything involving Yokohama always was.
"Tell me, how do you feel about transfer students?"
The deal has already been sealed by the time he looks over his tea. For the love of any god that’s listening, he hopes the two transfers aren’t going to be anything like the rest of his class, and knows he’s wrong by the time he steps foot out the door.
(Or: Nedzu and Mori have an understanding, and everyone suffers for it).
Stuck With Babysitter Duty; zaikunxx - bsd/mha crossover
mature | 7/? chapters | 5.1k words | chuuya/dazai | typical dazai warnings
summary:
“We can let you stay in Yuuei.” Nedzu chimes in, paws interlaced with one another as he sat upright on his chair.
Chuuya rolls his eyes, “What's the catch?”
“Nothing big really,” He drifts off, ears twitching. “We'll let you stay in the dorms, and help you find your way back home, only if you help protect class 1-A from villains.”
Dazai sighs, pinching his nose bridge, while Chuuya groans in distaste. “We have no choice though, do we?”
Nedzu smiles. “No, not even one.”
———
Or;
Dazai and Chuuya are teleported into a different universe, and now they need to find a way back home. They're 16 again, just because it helps further the plot.
(Quite literally, actually.)

This has been on my mind for a bit but... and I have no idea if people have pointed it out. Colors play a role here. This is not a shipping post.
Mori and Fukuzawa
Dazai and Chuuya
Atsushi and Akutagawa
These three pairs parallel each other. No?
Okay, wait, let me ?briefly? explain.
Mori and Fukuzawa
They're the first, they became partners, or kind of I guess, because of Natsume. He saw potential on the pair being together and he was not wrong since, from a flashback, they were a good pair.
Their colors are red and blue. Mori is red, Fukuzawa is blue.
Dazai and Chuuya
Second pair which goes by the name Soukoku or Double Black. They were paired because of Mori thinking that they can make something good together.
Their colors are also red and blue. Dazai is blue, Chuuya is red.
Atsushi and Akutagawa
Third pair, most likely the last except if we see either Akutagawa or Atsushi pick their next generation kind of thing. They got paired by Dazai because of plans that needed them both.
If you can't guess, their colors are red and blue. Akutagawa is red, Atsushi is blue.
Except of their colors, something just feels parallel with them. Okay, let's say this.
In season 3, episode 11 (idk manga chapter), Mori's fight with Fukuzawa, although it felt like it's own thing that has nothing to do with the other pairs, it somehow reminded me of them, mostly Dazai and Chuuya because they were/are closer than Atsushi and Akutagawa are.
Imagine this, Dazai was Mori, Chuuya was Fukuzawa. Does this go against their colors? Yes. But, imagine that placing because reality is, just like Mori, Dazai knows he wouldn't win against Chuuya. Chuuya doesn't need to use an ability, he knows how to fight and that was proven in the dungeon. And since I said dungeon, take that scene. Chuuya could have killed Dazai, but didn't because Dazai backed him up into a corner. That same method of talking before you die, distracting or manipulating your enemy and then gaining the upper hand is what Mori used too. Do you see it? (I also didn't do a mistake with the colors, it's to show the role change.)
But the thing about the pairs is that they differ from each other.
Let me list them:
Fukuzawa's and Mori's abilities don't compliment each other. Mori was most likely to use a scalpel to kill his enemies than his ability. While Dazai/Chuuya's and Atsushi/Akutagawa's abilities do.
Atsushi and Akutagawa don't trust each other at the beginning, even as we continue with the story, they don't trust each other quickly. Of course, they show they trust each other at a certain chapter later on. While Dazai/Chuuya and Mori/Fukuzawa show to trust each other from the start, maybe Fukuzawa had doubts but all of them did.
Dazai and Chuuya started from the same path. Of course Chuuya was with the Sheep when he met Dazai but he very quickly becomes part of the Port Mafia. While Atsushi/Akutagawa and Mori/Fukuzawa were/are never in the same organization.
Mori would never risk or die for Fukuzawa, rather he would kill him if that's what was needed. Chuuya would risk his life for Dazai. Akutagawa died for Atsushi.
This one is stupid but... Fukuzawa and Mori are not called a particular way. While Dazai/Chuuya have Soukoku (double black) and Akutagawa/Atsushi have Shin Soukoku (new double black). -learned that Fukuzawa/Mori do have a name which is Zenki Soukoku but I will not edit this out bc it's 5 on 5 and I'm a weirdo.-
What about similar things? Let's list those:
Created by a third party. Natsume made Fukuzawa/Mori. Mori created Dazai/Chuuya. Dazai created Akutagawa/Atsushi.
The colors. Red and Blue.
Yin and Yang. More apparent with Akutagawa and Atsushi, even in the hair. While Chuuya and Dazai have a more soulmate feel to them. Still Ying and Yang.
Their love/hate relationship. More apparent with Dazai and Chuuya.
This attacks point number 3 in the previous list but, different paths, at least in the present.
This was not a BRIEF explanation. Oh well. I didn't expect to play so much with color either but here I am. Will anyone read this? No. It's too long but it might grab someone's attention. Has anyone pointed this out? Probably. But I promise I didn't see it from somewhere, it was shower thoughts. 😂 My thoughts about this are a bit all over the place but whatever.
Whoever read this. Legend. I thank you for reading my rambling.
Goodbye!

bungou stray dogs fic recs (part 8)
other bsd fic recs here personal favorites are starred, by the way. everything is complete unless stated otherwise.
ozaki kouyou  / yosano akiko
*Flowers In The Dark by ziasann (~6k)
In the darkest of nights, Ozaki and Akiko were white carnations that bloomed under moonlight.
In a garden of grief, they were roses, watered in dark crimson blood.
Above the lonely lake, they were lotus flowers floating and swimming in desolation.
They were violets, basking under the small rays of sunrise.
Despite the darkness, they were flowers that continued to bloom with one another.
i love this fic so much. i’ve literally been looking for more fics of them, but i can’t find any.
okay, actually, this tag has a lot of kouyou / yosano. i filtered out the soukoku and shin soukoku ship tag because they were cluttering up the results, which is why it was so hard to find any kouyou / yosano. i don’t have any time right now to read them, but i’ll post fic recs from there whenever i get to it. (also, it’s sorted by bookmarks, just because that makes it easier.
fukuzawa yukichi / mori ougai
World's Greatest Dad by Seito (~7k)
For about 18 hours, 27 minutes, nearly 13 years ago, Fukuzawa Yukichi and Mori Oogai were married.
It was, to date, the worst decision they had made and so far the decision to divorce was the only decision they both agreed upon.
(Both blamed Natsume and copious amounts of sake for the lapse in judgement.)
As the two men went their separate ways, Mori to take the position of Port Mafia boss and Fukuzawa to open up the Armed Detective Agency, they had hoped that any future interaction would be limited to a strictly professional sense. Total cutoff was not possible, thanks to Natsume, but with clear well defined lines of territory they hoped to see each other as little as possible.
Except there was a custody battle over the kids.
["Stop stealing my subordinates!" Mori hissed into the phone.
On the other side of the line, Fukuzawa scoffed. "Stop traumatizing them and maybe the ones who are actually loyal to you might stay."]

Bungou Stray Dogs GC headcanons:
Dazai made it to iMPrOve rELatiOns beTwEen oRgAnIzAtiOns
He just wanted to ship Atsushi and Akutagawa
And maybe flirt with Chuuya
When he started the chat he misspelled all the names: Yosaunu, Rambo, Kowyo, Kyukah, kenzhi, etc.
When he got to Kunikida he was too lazy so he just made it Kuniki-whatever-kun
Kunikida said nothing, but he did throw his phone at the idiot
Dazai named the chat Fukuzawa is The Better Boss and Dad :)
Speaking of which, Mori's nickname was Morris
So the chat started out as a gossip and betting pool thing (Yosano, Ranpo, Kouyou, Gin)
But it degraded into all the generations of Soukoku just fighting each other
Shin Soukoku fought the most.
They were mostly about the dumbest things ever
Like whenever they thought about the other they would immediately go on the group chat and yell at each other
"I just tried chazuke, and all I can say is that your taste is garbage"
"Says the one wearing a bib shirt"
"I BEG YOUR PARDON"
"I CAN SEE YOUR RIBS THROUGH YOUR EMO WARDROBE YOU KNOW. EAT MORE YOU IDIOT"
It got so bad that even in the early mornings, either one would just wake up, grab their phones, and proceed to yell
The other is somehow always awake and able to answer
Dazai and Chuuya are even worse
They argue a lot more on the group chat than any of the other generations
Atsushi and Akutagawa start the fight
Dazai and Chuuya stretch it until it no longer makes sense and everybody's forgotten the point. No, they do not finish it
The reason they're worse is that they're petty
"Mackerel, your emojis are an affront to god"
Dazai: *proceeds to send every single emoji in the library*
"Your bike is a hot pink garbage pile, slug~"
Chuuya: *sends pics of himself elaborately posing on his motorcycle*
(Tachihara took the pics. He is the Tired Friend™)
Once they've nearly exhausted their daily energy, Mori and Fukuzawa take over
They start off trying to stop the fighting because no one can get any work done when their phones are vibrating off the desks or rattling drawers
Mori tries to stop it first, but when he does he acts like an old grandma who goes "you all remind me of when my husband and I–"
He starts telling stories about him and Fukuzawa
Fukuzawa interjects every single time with a "you never change"
But it's more scathing than fond (not really)
Mori goes "Ara Ara"
Then it's a whole new brand of hell
They just roast each other with the experience of an Old Married Couple™
They perfected the craft
"How was getting poisoned for you, Yukichi?"
"It was nothing, I'm used to eating your food"
"The kids are doing better with me than with you"
"That's because you spend more time being in cat cafes than with them~"
Yes, both Mori and Dazai use ~ at the end of all their messages
Only Natsume can break them up
That, or Kouyou walks into Mori's office and impales his phone into the wall

"Only a diamond can polish a diamond."
— Natsume Souseki, to Mori and Fukuzawa
Guess what flashed through my mind.
(Some of you probably thought of this too, but I seriously just want to point this out.)
Because of Natsume-sensei's words and mission for Fukuzawa (which is to become Mori's bodyguard for a while), they worked together and became an invincible pair. Like Mori said, "Once in a blue moon, we'll work together. And at times like those, we were always invincible."
Tumblr media
And then, because of the Arahabaki that Mori-sensei wanted Dazai to investigate, they met Chuuya. In that investigation, Dazai and Chuuya worked together, and like Mori and Fukuzawa, they were invincible. And then, Soukoku was formed.
Tumblr media
And now, Dazai wanted Atsushi to work with Akutagawa. In Moby Dick, in Dead Apple, and in the Rats' hideout. Just like the previous two, they were invincible. Even Ivan's Stone Titan failed to regenerate when their abilities are combined. In the Guild arc, yes, Shin Soukoku was formed.
●•●•●•●•●•
What's beautiful is they're black and white. One is light and one is dark.
You see my point, right?
Their personalities are polar opposites. Yet, when they work together, they're almost perfectly coordinated.
What's funny is there's a sort-of-hate-and-respect between Mori and Fukuzawa, between Dazai and Chuuya, and between Akutagawa and Atsushi.
Yes, this is one of the most beautiful things in BSD.
It's not about the ship.
It's about the connection and how one improves because of the other and vice versa. In other words, their polishing.

Demon Slayer 12 - 13 | OPM 23 - 24 (FINAL) | BSD 36 - 37 (FINAL) | Shield Hero 25 (FINAL) | Fruits Basket 12 - 13 | To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts 1 | Astra 1 | Maou-sama, Retry! 1 | UchiMusume 1 | Dr Stone 1 | Fire Force 1 | Granbelm 1
Summer debuts aplenty!
Demon Slayer 12
I assume the creature on the episode titlecard is a boar…?
I see…! So Kyogai uses the drums like a game controller! Y’know, like A = attack and directional keys to move.
I almost expected Inosuke to appear from behind the screen door, but it was just Tanjiro…
Huh? For some reason, I find Zenitsu funny now…but only the tiniest bit. Not enough to laugh out loud, but enough to give tiny “heh”s.
Well…that episode title didn’t lie, at least…
Ah-hah! I knew it! Knewwwwwwwww it! It’s the double-personality trope I liked 5 years ago (you see it embodied in Martin/Alter-Az). The only thing I didn’t know was how Zenitsu would become badass…well, now we know. He sleep fights…I still think ingesting blood to invoke a second personality is still way cooler though.
Shoichi? Is that the kid’s name?
“Marechi” doesn’t seem to mean anything…
“Show me your wounds.” Then again, there are some wounds that you can’t present to others…not unless you show the side effects.
As much as I was scared by Exposition Crow, I have to be thankful the little feathered buddy is around. I wouldn’t understand “marechi” otherwise. But seriously, where does that crow hide in his spare time…?
Oh…the duty of filial piety…I know your feel, Tanjiro.
Tanjiro’s brain!Zenitsu is so accurate, I LOLled…a tiny bit.
Tanjiro, you gotta remember: be proud of where you’ve gotten today! Don’t be the man you were yesterday! Keep evolving with the times like water itself, because that is what water is about – change! (triumphant music plays in the background to accompany this declaration)
The only problem I have with filial piety is…what happens when your family has only daughters???
OPM S2 Ep 11 (Ep 23)
Garou’s got a point in that villains are meant to be sympathetic in order to get a good story. However, I’d still root for the heroes all the same.
Naruto running…why’s it so popular???
“Mentsuyu” (on Saitama’s blue shirt) means “noodle soup base” = a mixture of dashi (soup stock), soy sauce, mirin and sugar.
It took me a replay to realise that Garou turned red when the tree fell down.
BSD 36
Uh, dude? Who calls their kid “Eruisu-chan”…? It’s Elise, isn’t it?
Katai – yet again, can I just say he is the husbando we need and not the husbando we want? (LOL) There’s even what appears to be a sake bottle in the bottom left corner…
Is there such thing as a bullet-proof futon???
Come to think of it, this scene with all the rubble about halfway through the episode looks like it comes from the Dead Apple first key visual –the one that came out when the movie was announced. Not the Shin Soukoku one, the other one with Soukoku in a rubble-filled place looking at the horizon.
Looking at Natsume-sensei from the back reveals his hair is calico-coloured too…
I wonder how much of Dazai’s scheming is actually just Natsume-sensei…?
“What did you have for dinner last night?” “Yeah.” – Just imagining this with a monotone instead of Akutagawa’s usual anger is hilarious!
Snakes don’t run…?
Oh, I get why he was calling Akutagawa “bro”! When you’re married, you call your brother in law “brother” as well!
Bungou Stray Dogs 37 (FINAL)
I discovered something – the kanji under ECHO, 回向, are read ekou. What do they mean? The verb form means “to hold a memorial service for [someone]”, so I’d assume it’s “memorial service”.
For some reason, when Atsushi said “you’re not paying for this ride!”, I thought, “It’s your Ubr driver here”…LOL.
I seem to remember that Goncharov controls rock and his power is The Precipice…but I don’t remember reading past ch. 52…
“How can you be so sure?” I thought it was something like “Because that’s what I would do.” Turns out I was right…maybe I have read chapter 53??? Or is this a previous chapter that’s been movd forward???
Hmm…come to think of it, why is Akutagawa’s power to control fabric anyway? (Because he can control other things, it’s just that he chooses to use his coat as a default.) Does the Rashomon story have to do with that…?
Oh, that’s cute. Shin Soukoku are on the same thinking wavelength now. (somewhat sarcastic)
Come to think of it – season 1 anime!Atsushi was about as whiny as Zenitsu…hmm. Now there’s a cross-anime comparison I never thought I’d make.
“…what appears to be a hiker…” (or maybe it was multiple hikers…?)
Did you notice Akutagawa was missing his coat?
“Fancy hat boy” – That’s why the fandom calls Chuuya “Mr Fancy Hat”, LOL.
One thing’s for sure – whether you like BSD or not, you gotta admit they have a great sense of closure.
Shield Hero 25 (FINAL)
See? There is a Meteor move for Naofumi!
Raphtalia’s mostly been saying nothing but “Naofumi-sama” over and over again…it kind of irks me. It’s too bad I’m almost finished with this show.
I’m gussing the reward has to do with Raphtalia’s village.
Is Naofumi leaving???
LOL, before Naofumi faced the Waves, he was wavering…geddit??? (Oh, that joke’s terrible…)
Fruits Basket 12
I think Shigure attended the ceremony to procrastinate on his writing…LOL.
Okay…I started this episode a few days back and now I hav a bowl of piping hot pho to go with it! Let’s get back to business!
Momiji is a scheming little brat, ain’t he?
The “Yuki wearing a girls’ uniform” was funny…because reactions.
Hmm…even though I know what’s going to happen, I only just realised Akito and Yuki only seem to wear traditional Japanese dress when tied down to their curse or their main house. Westrn cloths thereby symbolise progress for them…but you can’t say the same for Shigure, though, so there goes that hypothesis…
I thought for a second they were going to play baseball…that’s what they did in Star Driver.
Fruits Basket 13
Snake attack!!!
Hmm…Ayame clearly used a convo diversionary tactic there (avoiding the topic).
“Aya says he sells men’s dreams.” – LOL.
Demon Slayer 13
I find it interesting Tanjiro also has respect for his opponent, not just empathy.
Aww…this message of recognising your skills and having them be recognised by others is cute. I needd that, really – ever since about a year ago, sometimes I’m so negative I just want to be erased from the face of the earth. That’s why I love Rokuhoudou so much – it was my solace from such thoughts.
Seeing the eyecatch’s strip go vertical for Zenitsu was interesting – I didn’t think it would change orientation midway through the show.
Okay, in this book I read recently – Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin – the protagonist admits to having “an overdeveloped sense of theatricality”…or dramaticism or something like that. I now realised Zenitsu has that too…although now he’s back to bugging me as a result.
Oh! So Inosuke was the 5th survivor! I had a feeling that would be the answer, but now I’ve confirmed it.
WHOA! I’ve never seen Tanjiro go all Papa Bear like this!
…and you can tell with that pre-OP shot that Ufotable ran out of budget for once.
The Legend of the Eight Samurai is also known as…wait for it…Hakkenden! There’s an anime called that, y’know? Update: It’s Satomi Nansou Hakkenden vs Hakkenden (with some subtitle on it).
To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts 1
First anime of summer! Now if only my CR would stop buffering so much…I’d be a happy person.
Oh…great. Fantasy information dump right here…just like Fairy Gone.
Is this weird that I recognise Patria to be…Korea? (At least in history. Its people seem to be generic Europeans.)
Is this a “dudes in war are scarred for life” thing again??? Please, please don’t let this be another Spec-Ops Asuka.
…and now here come the furries. (sarcastic)
Aren’t the white coats really impractical for battle???
If Cain isn’t a vampire or based on a bat…I dunno what I’d do, but I’m pretty sure he is, based on those pretty boy features.
I thought her name was Nancy…? Her name is Nancy Schaal Bancroft, after all.
Ooh! It’s the Abominable Walrus! I’m so scared~! (mocking tone)
This is basically an AI story, but fantasy-based, isn’t it…?
90s fire in the background…LOL.
“I’m going to ask Elaine to be with me.” – Now there’s something I didn’t think Hank would say.
LOL, Cain Madhouse really is mad! (in the Joker-style “insane” sort of way)
Well…uh, it was a bit predictable, but had its perks. I mean, there’s no CGI in it at all for one thing…I guess we wait for more (of this show and the debut of other shows) to see if it stays.
OPM S2 Ep 12 (Ep 24) (FINAL)
Shouldn’t that be “whale on an opponent”…?
What’s up with the montage, though???
*dead Centichoro* - Now that’s what I call “legs for miles”…! (LOL)
Astra 1
I’ve read some of the manga for this, so it’s my most anticipated anime this season! I can only hope it lives up to its own hype.
Double-length 1st episode! Ooh! Just like the manga’s double-length debut.
Okay, who decided on using CGI for Aries? Put it on the ship, not on her!
Oh, foreshadowing! Me likey.
I can’t really tell what Aries is meant to be screaming because she’s screaming over the woman, but it’s definitely not “beef” Aries is yelling.
Is it just me, or is there a frame around this scene at the Spaceport…?
I guess Aries is what they call a space case! (Wahaha!...Okay, I think that’s one stupid joke too many, now.)
Boob shot??? Why??? Also, according to the manga’s supplemental material found between chapters, Yun-Hua’s suit is newer than Aries’s (IIRC).
I definitely do not remember seeing a picture of Kanata’s sensei in the manga at all. I know Kanata refers to his sensei quite a bit, but…hmm…maybe the fact he looks like Charce means something. Update: For some reason, I remembered Charce as “Charles”…?
This scenery, with the ground making platforms in the air, looks like Dr Stone!!!
I just noticed the frame expanded after Kanata entered the sphere.
Did we need the flashback again???
Zetsubou is “despair”, at least from the way I learnt it – from Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei, of course. It can be translated as “hopeless” in context, though.
Second recap from earlier in the episode. Well, at least it’s not Detective Conan or Demon Slayer bad…
Wow, they’re really trying to sell a potential Kanata x Aries ship here. That wasn’t in the manga either.
This is the 3rd time for the same recap…geesh. The things you notice when the episodes are compiled and online for you to watch…they can get kind of annoying.
I think the star = planet thing makes more sense when in Japanese, since “hoshi” can mean both. In English, it makes Aries sound like more of a space case…
Maou-sama, Retry! 1
…and the award for Most Boring Opening in a While goes to…this show!
I almost expected blonde!Rem to be called Rem…I knew that her name wasn’t Rem, but still…
Seriously? The face game of this show should be higher for it to pull off a gag involving funny faces…
The run cycle of this show’s…kinda suckish. Like Dororo’s one scene where he’s Naruto running.
“It’s you who is the root of all evil.”
UchiMusume 1
Aka “If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord”.
The language on the title card seems to be a substitute for English. If you just take that thing that looks like brackets as one symbol, that seems to be a Y. How can you tell? Because “little” matches the 3rd last word.
The devil language seems to be based on Japanese, though…at least from what I’m picking up. Update: Oh! So when she says “toilet”, it’s just the syllables backwards! Just like in Hataraku Maou-sama.
I swear, if this guy isn’t voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, I’m going to have to swallow my hydralyte drink properly! (I’ve been struggling to drink it all day today.) Update: Nope, it’s Nobuhiko Okamoto.
I thought I just read something on the devil list that said “Bobble Space” in English…wuh?
Dr Stone 1
This is my 2nd most anticipated debut of the summer 2019 season. Let’s go!
Ooh, I see Crunchyroll even got themselves a fancy new intro card…which makes them more like what Funimation used to be on that front…
I know people have been comparing Senku’s hair to green onions…and now I can’t unsee it. Dang it, you guys! That’s the first real thought I’m having for this anime?!
*raises arms like Christ the Redeemer*…and Boichi and Riichiro Inagaki said, “Let there be light!”…and for some reason, it was green light…
Hmm…I thought in the manga Yuzuriha was shoved to the tree, which made Taiju look more like a hero to her. Turns out she ran to the tree then got petrified, if the anime is anything to go by.
I heard a really accurate “what’s happening?” in the scene which is meant to have English speakers in it…it’s almost creepy, to be honest with you.
Shuei…LOL. It’s clearly a play on Shueisha.
I didn’t think of this when reading the manga, but this anime’s very much a Holmes and Watson scenario…although Watson here is a little bit too dumb for some people’s liking…
I swear TMS used pictures of the real thing when looking at those grapes…
I love seeing Senku being pissed off. He’s so smug all the time, I needed that change of pace.
Maybe one day Senku will make vodka…LOL. I’m kidding.
Fire Force 1
Oh geesh…so Ohkubo grabbed the Aria from Ao no Exorcist to make his nuns work???
Why is there Naruto running???
“I’m a newly-assigned…”
Kyoukai means church. Does it really mean “cathedral” as well???
“Is that the scent of a damp woman?” – Uh, duuuuuuuude? Excuse-moi? That is not how you treat a lady you’ve just met…!
Can I insert a “Twinkletoes” comment from Toph (Avatar) yet…?
Okay, scrap that. Can I do that Overwatch “Molten CORE!” thing instead…?
Granbelm 1
I started watching this because it’s being promoted as “magical girls drive mechs”.
One of the mech ladies reminds me of…what’s her name…from the Re:Zero LNs…I believe her name is Beatrice, but that’s the name of one of the library loli, isn’t it…? *Googles* Okay, her name is Priscilla. AFAIK, “Priscilla” is NOT the name of the orange-haired lady in Granbelm, though… Update: Her name is Anna, actually.
These mechs remind me of Kim from Twinkle Star Sprites.
Wow…ripoff purple iPhone, much…?
Shingetsu = new moon, mangetsu = full moon.
I feel like Mangetsu is a relatable protagonist, but also annoying as a result of being relatable.
“Pennies from heaven” is a phrase you say to declare your good fortune, much like you say “speak of the devil” for bad luck when it comes to a certain person who arrives at the wrong time.

Thoughts on how BSD can end
This thing has been bothering me a lot since I saw a m/e(m9e post for BSD ending with Dazai dying.
Character wise it makes a lot of sense. Dazai WANTS to die. BSD CAN end with him dying. But that would be somewhat bitter for the audience however again, BSD is a universe where anyone can die anytime, you have no idea what is gonna happen next.
Please do note that I am not doing it from a biased shipping perspective but from a neutral point of view.
1. This is where a dilemma comes in, that if it happens wouldn’t Odasaku dying would be somewhat useless and irrelevant that all the things he did was just to show Dazai the light that he wanted to see? If you remember the ending theme song for S2, Kaze Ga Fuku Machi, the pre chorus goes as “The words you gave me are stored deep with in my heart so the next time I meet you I can stand proudly before you.” Now if you break these parts, the words Odasaku gave Dazai was save the ones who needs help, live in the light, be a good man. These are the words that Dazai lives by today (although considering his moral its quite questionable) meaning those words of Odasaku are still in his heart. Now the question is, when will he meet Odasaku? Like as in visiting the grave like the official art for the dvd where he was standing in a grave yard with Chuuya facing his back? or is it him actually dying while fighting for the light and then meeting Odasaku? (does he even believe in heaven and hell? Wtf?)
2. Now plot wise this is possible too. But then similar thing happened in BEAST, where he had to die for the book. The question is, does the same book thing happens in cannon time line? Maybe I am missing on things but in s2 Fitz was after the book, then Fyodor and Dazai already (assuming) knows about the book. As well as Natsume sensei knows about the said book (but then Natsume sensei is really not actively in there however he still knows about the book.). So that means more than 3 people already knows about the book and nothing has happened to Yokohama yet. (or maybe is going to happen in this Fyodor arc). Lets say if a similar thing as BEAST is about to happen in cannon timeline, the 4th person knowing about the book would mean someone has to be eliminated to save Yokohama. It can be Dazai or someone else.
3. The next point is what is this book everyone is after? is it the book that Natsume sensei gave to Odasaku and wanted Odasaku to write the 4th vol of it? is it Kunikida’s Doppo Poetry? Since it can make anything happen? But then a lot of the characters in BSD already knows about Doppo Poetry and they didn’t mention anything about in s2. So it can be Natsume sensei’s book because they haven’t showed that much about him yet. Or another totally different book.
4. I happen to stumble on a theory few days ago where they talked about No Longer Human being able to access memories from other alternative universes, meaning he knows what happens in BEAST, that Odasaku lives on and he dies. And perhaps this is why he can still live on the cannon timeline knowing that Odasaku is still alive somewhere in another timeline. Thus the ending would be just him living and PM and ADA working together to protect Yokohama.
4. Another theory I read while ago was the entire BSD is Dazai’s memories and he is actually dead right now since as we can see on the opening for s1 is him falling (most probably) from the Port Mafia towers (somewhat similar mental images as BEAST when he commits suicide). However, anime wise it makes a lot of sense since the anime had that visual already but the manga did not had the same visual so that would make a bit less sense for the manga timeline. Unless the anime and the manga have a different ending, where in anime it ends with showing that he is dead but in manga he revives or smth like that (tho idk if thats possible in BSD universe, maybe a new ability user will be introduced but thats not even possible because of his nullification ability. Maybe someone like Love craft then?)
5. What bothers me extremely is Cannon having almost the same ending as BEAST. But in BEAST he died because Odasaku lived on, in Cannon, Odasaku died and thats why he got to live. If a similar thing as BEAST happens, again as mentioned in possibility 1, it would be pretty messy on the part as in what Odasaku has done for him to be a good man. But still can be possible.
6. Another way to end BSD would be killing someone close to Dazai as warning to Dazais future death. If thats the case then it would either, Shin Soukoku or Chuuya. Although the series actually revolves around Shin Soukoku, so they have a lower chance of dying and Chuuya is extremely popular and a minor character related (deeply) to Dazai but it’s possible he can die from Corruption. Or if they use the Odasaku route then Dazai dying in cannon is quite predictable.
7. An ironic ending of Dazai dying while the series started with Atsushi Saving Dazai. (thank you @no-longer-tainted to open my eyes on this one!!). Its almost like a chain or Dominos effect where one dies and the other lives on through his wishes. (The father, the son and the holy spirit kind of) Odasaku’s wish to saving and helping people,. he dies and Dazai lives with his wish. Dazai dying and Atsushi living through his wishes of protecting the city (and making Shin Soukoku work properly)
8. Asagiri has a reputation of surprising us a lot so it could be something totally different. Since we are somewhat expecting Dazai to die maybe Asagiri will make him live? or to really surprise the heck outta us would be just ACTUALLY killing him and then ending it with Shin Soukoku taking over.
Now its just probably safe to be prepared for someone to die at the end of BSD. Be it Dazai or anyone else. But if he dies well gonna fucking stab the fuck outta myself i guess?
