We are quickly approaching the big astro event of 2021, the Super Flower Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse (which unfortunately will only be visible in parts of North America)! I think this makes it the perfect time to finally start publishing my Moon series. See, I’m always very excited to photograph the moon and I rarely miss an event. But I never actually posted moon shots here in my feed so far. Only in some Stories (as you might have seen). Well, now it’s the time! The first frame in the slideshow is an attention-grabbing animation from a moon shot I took a few days ago. The real post is for the few of you who will scroll the slideshow 😉 And of course, it has to be the similar event that happened 2 years ago, the Super Blood Wold Moon eclipse, which was actually visible in London (and inspired a Pearl Jam song the next year). To take this shot I stayed up all night, arriving to my location at 1am and following the movement of the moon manually to make sure I didn’t miss anything. And trust me: at 1200mm focal length and with the moon fading to black, it was not an easy task. Luckily I managed to capture the whole event until the moon became completely dark (about 4:30am if I remember well)… and never reappeared again! London being London, all of a sudden the clouds completely covered the sky. So I only have this first half here. Which I still enjoyed shooting, of course. All done, a normal person would go to sleep. So of course I didn’t: I went straight to a full day photowalk with @alenpalander, where I first met @snapsbyfox, @bxnmxclean and a dozen other photographers. Over 40 hours without sleep… But it was worth it! Anyway, here starts the moon/astro series.
