Trying
Tw- trying for baby, pregnancy, negative test
*disclaimer- I know some people try for years and some never can have kids but I know from experience that even a few months of negative tests can break your heart. And for those who don’t know you can test negative one day and test positive the next.
You are gazing out the passenger window of your husband’s jeep as he flew down the road. You were deep in thought. You wanted to talk to him about starting a family but you didn’t know how to start the conversation.
“What’s going on inside that head of yours? He said, pulling you from your thoughts.
“‘Nothing, I’m just tired” you said, lying.
“Y/n Buckley, we’ve been together long enough for me to know when something is wrong.” He said pulling into the parking spot at your apartment. He adjusted in his seat to face you.
“There is nothing wrong” you say, adjusting to face him more, “ I didn’t want to have this conversation in the car but here goes, I want to have a baby”
“What?” He says, looking confused.
“I’m ready to start a family with you, Evan Buckley!” You admit.
He grins, and jumps out of the jeep. He runs to your side and opens your door. He takes you by the hand and helps you out. He plants a passionate kiss on your lips.
“You really had me scared there for a second” he almost runs into the apartment holding your hand.
“Lets get started then” he says, giving you a mischievous grin and puts you up on the kitchen counter.
~~
You sat in the floor against the tub. You waited anxiously for your timer to go off.
Beep beep beep
You jumped up. You grabbed the test on the counter. You slowly look at the words on the screen.
*negative*
You sigh. You throw it in the garbage can and wash your hands. You exit the bathroom to find your husband on the bed.
“So?” He asked.
You plopped down next to him. You shake your head no.
“Well we will just keep trying“ he said. He is such a positive person. He is always looking at the bright side it kills him that you have been so depressed. You can tell he is hurting too but he is staying positive for you.
“Buck, can you just stop trying to be Mr. Bright Side for once?” You snap, storming down the stairs. He chases behind you.
“I’m sorry I just hate to see you like this!” He yells back.
“Evan, I want one thing and I’m constantly failing at it! How do you want me to feel?” You say.
“Y/n, we’ve only just started trying, you’ve got to give it time.” He says
“I know but it hurts” you admit sitting on the bar stool.
He looks over at the stove clock. He centers himself between your legs with his hands on your thighs. He plants a kiss on you lips.
“Look I’ve got to go but we can talk about this later, I love you so much and it pains me to see you upset and to know there is no way to help” he says before moving your bangs out of the way and kissing you. He places his forehead on yours.
“I love you too” you whisper.
“We will figure this out” he says before he grabs his stuff and heads to the door.
“I love you” he says again.
“I love you, stay safe, make it home to me” you recite the phrase you say every-time he leaves for shift.
“I promise”
~
It was the next morning. You knew you would regret it but you just had to take another test. Something was telling you it would be different.
After what seemed like an eternity the timer went off, you picked up the test and revealed the words, “Pregnant”. You couldn’t believe it. You took 4 more test just to be sure. You slid down the bathroom wall. You couldn’t help but smile. You couldn’t wait to tell Buck. You were going to go to the firehouse for lunch you would tell him then.
You hopped in the shower. You heard your phone ringing on the bathroom counter. You had missed the call before you reached your phone. It was Eddie. You thought how weird it was he was calling. Maybe Buck’s phone died or he dropped it again. But before you could do anything else he called again.
“Buck? Did you forget your charger again?” You ask laughing.
“Y/n, its Eddie” Buck’s best friend says on the other line.
“How bad is it?” You reply, automatically knowing that he was called because Buck was hurt.
“He’s stable but we won’t know how bad until they get to the hospital”he said
“I’m on my way” you said, you rushed and got dressed.
You got to the hospital. You found Eddie in the waiting room. The rest of the team was going to finish the shift and come down. Maddie came rushing in right behind you.
“They just took him to CT” Eddie says.
“Eddie be honest how bad is it?”
“Mild concussion, probably a few broken ribs, they don’t know about any lung damage until after the CT” he said.
Just then the nurse came out.
“Buckley?” She called.
The 3 of you walk to her.
“I’m his wife” you say.
“He is out of Ct and in a room if you want to see him” she said.
The 3 of you follow her down the hallway. You enter the room to see your husband all banged up laying in the bed.
“Hey beautiful ” he says weakly with a smile.
You take a sit by the bed, Maddie on the other, Eddie standing close by.
“You scared us” you say.
“I’m sorry” he replies.
Y’all all talk a bit.
“I’m going to go call the team” Eddie says.
“I’m going to go get some air” Maddie says catching the feeling in the air.
“I know everytime you leave that there is a chance you won’t come and I just have to learn to be ok with it” you say.
“Hey look at me, I keep my promises, I promise you every shift that I will make it home and I don’t plan on breaking it.” He says grabbing your hand.
“Good, because I can’t do this on my own” you say starting to smile and pulling the pregnancy test from your hoodie pocket.
Buck looks at your hand and takes the test. A smile slowly creeps across his face.
“Really?” He says.
“I took it this morning, well actually I took 5 test this morning.” You say.
“Come here” he says. You lean in he grabs the back of your head and kisses you.
~
It was a few days later. Buck was home. He went back to work the next day so you we’re having the team over tonight to tell them the good news.
You went to the doctor yesterday to confirm the pregnancy, you were 8 weeks, it was early but you knew Buck couldn’t spend 24 hour shifts with people and not tell them.
Everyone was gathered around talking and laughing. You and Buck were in the kitchen. He had his arms around you. You had your back to him, you head leaned back on his chest.
“This is everything I have ever dreamed of” he whispers, secretly putting his hand on your stomach.
“Hey guys!” Buck says loudly getting everyone attention.
“First off, I’d like to thank everyone for coming, and we have an announcement!” He says.
You grab 4 bags from the stairs, one for Maddie, Chimney, Eddie and Bobby.
You hand them each the bags. Everyone watches as the open.
They each pull out a onesie. All 4 of them read the onesies in confusion and then start smiling.
“Alright now share with the rest of the class” says Hen
Maddie turns hers around it say, “My aunt saves life”
Chimney does the same, “My uncle saves lives”
Eddie hold his up, smiling so big, “My uncle can kick your butt”
Bobby laughs and shows his “You have a grandpa I have a Captain”
“I’m on 8 weeks but if something was to happen who better to know than the best firehouse in the LAFD” you say
Everyone starts congratulating you and hugging you.
This was finally the start to a happy future.

i want them all, robin x you (part 2!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
All's well that ends well to end up with you"
part 1! part 3!
Your hands make their way to Robin’s door before you can even think if it's a good idea. There were only forty minutes till midnight and on a regular night it wouldn't be a problem. You were both night owls, so she would be definitely awake, reading, practicing for band as softly as humanly possible or just daydreaming in general and you would climb to her window like in those really bad cliché movies and you two would spend the insomnia together.
But today it was Christmas eve.
You had to admit, even after the rough start, this awful town wasn't really that bad. A lot had happened in a year, the furniture had come and you’ve made your new room feel almost as good as your old one. You had adopted a cat, Jo, who had lived in your closet. You thought the irony on that was hilarious, for about three weeks till your parents found out and grounded you for a month. You still got to keep her, though. And, honestly, school wasn't that bad. At least not with Robin at your side.
Oh, right! Robin! This past year you had also realized you had feelings –gay feelings– for your best friend. Which was terrifying, excruciating, and every other negative adjective you could ever think of and put you on the worst dilema to ever exist: on the one hand, this stupid crush could not keep growing and developing into more than it already was, so the reasonable option would be to not spend every second of every day with her, like you two were attached to the hip. But, on the other hand, this friendship was the most valuable thing in your life.
You couldn't have her the way you wanted to and you couldn't lose her, so you did what you do best; Repressed the shit out of everything, even getting a boyfriend in the process.
It wasn’t hard. Boys had so much lust on their brains that there was barely any room for them to notice you were not a single bit attracted to them. You said yes to the first one who asked you to prom, his name was Ben, and during the night you bailed on him, saying you had lady problems, to spend the night in the library with Robin. She asked why even go with him in the first place, but you didn't answer. You shrugged and luckily to her it was enough. It wasn't convenient for either of you to start asking questions. Cause if you did then you would've asked why she didn't say yes to Calvin when he asked her to prom, which would have led her to finally admiting she had a thing for fucking Steve "The Hair" Harrington and you just werent in the mood to deal with that.
Luckily the door opens right on time to save you from the spiral you were about to go into, showing a very confused, kinda concerned Mrs Buckley.
"Y/N! C'mon in, it's freezing, sweetie!" She guides you to the kitchen, like she has done multiple times this past year. The decorations make you feel even worse about crashing their dinner, but you're glad to find a picture of little Robin in the hallway, half her face buried in a green scarf, hugging a snowman with the biggest smile you've ever seen.
"I'm sorry to interrupt your dinner like this." you apologize. She makes a 'don't worry' gesture with her hand as she starts to make you a cup of tea.
"It was just us three this year." she says, in hope you feel a little better. "Is everything okay? Robin left with her dad but they should be back any second."
You nod from across the kitchen table and you know she knows you're lying. Your face is red and you're pretty sure you have mascara tears all over you.
"It's just…" you start to talk and immediately regret it, but it's too late now "Um, romantic stuff?"
Mrs Buckley's face lights up. Robin is not very interested in telling her things about her personal life, so she's excited. But she's also kind and warm and doesn't pressure you in any kind of way.
"Bad break up?" she guesses, and you thank the opportunity to take the easy exit.
"Yeah…"
She looks at you with a sad smile, offering you her hand to hold. You accept it and she squeezes your embrace as she says:
"Everything has a reason, Y/N. Everything that is meant to be will happen, and everyone that's meant to be will come back eventually. It's just hard to see the big picture sometimes."
Surprisingly, her words are a lot more accurate to your actual real situation than you expect them to be. It catches you with your guard down, so a single tear manages to escape your watery eyes. Mrs Buckley smiles again and is at this moment when the rest of the family arrives home.
"MOM THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE BLUE CHEESE AND I DIDNT WANNA ASK KYLE CAUSE I'M LIKE NINETY PERCENT SURE HE'S GONNA MURDER ME IN MY SLEEP, A–" yells Robin as she makes her way to the kitchen, a lot of little bags fill her hands. She shuts up when she sees you in her kitchen "Dude, I already know my mom liked you better but this? I–" you turn around to face her and she stops talking when she realizes your state. "Y/N, are you okay?" she adds in a soft, concerned voice.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I'll tell you later. "
You excuse yourself from her parents, Mr Buckley also shoots you a worried look, you assure him that everything is fine –her parents are so sweet, it was almost overwhelming– and you go up to Robin's room.
"It was the idiot of Ben, right?" she asks as soon as you guys are alone. But this time you're not so sure about taking the exit.
Mrs Buckley words were still echoing in your head, if Robin was a person worth it to have in your life then she would be okay with it. Confessing your feelings was clearly off the table, but maybe you could at least come out to her?
You still aren't sure, so you say: "Kinda…"
She shoots you a confused look "Kinda?" and seeing you wouldnt keep talking she adds "What the fuck did he do? Do I have to to break his nose?"
You chuckle a bit from the mental image of that situation. You pictured a very angry, 5'7 Robin yelling to the face of the captain of the basketball team, cursing him in all four languages. And that's exactly what makes you decide to come out to her. You knew with your soul that, if needed to, she would kick his ass, quite literally. Someone who loved you that much would understand.
Right?
"We broke up" you finally confess, going through the room and sitting on your personal spot below the window. Thats where she kept the box with all her mixtapes, so to avoid her stare you start to organize them.
"Really?" She says after a while of silence. Idioms on the right, 60s and 70s on the middle… "Today?"
"Yep" Maybe you could also put them in alphabetical order? But for the artist or for the name of the album? "Over the phone."
"No way!" she says, offended. "Over the fucking phone? He’s an asshole!"
You sight once more and almost decide to give up, coming out wasn't really that necessary, right? But then you find the mixtape you made her for her birthday, two months ago. "Robin and Y/N survive High School '' was the title you'd given it, and you'd even painted a cover with a drawing of one of your favorite pictures together. You really meant everything to each other. There was only twenty minutes left till midnight and she wasn't celebrating, she was here, genuinely concerned about you. So you decide to keep talking, still not sure if it’s a good idea.
"He's not, I am…" you say and she's ready to argue when you explain "I broke up with him. Over the phone. On Christmas Eve. I'm the asshole."
"You broke up with him?" The words are shocking enough to make her stop pacing the room nervously and sit down beside you. "Why?"
All the tapes were perfectly organized now, so there was no way to avoid her eyes anymore. "Cause I didn't like him."
"Why? Did he say something?"
"No! I mean, I don't think I've ever liked him" She just stares at you with confusion in her eyes and all you want is for this moment to be over. "It's not about him! I just don't… like them."
"Who?"
Your heart races, your palms start to sweat and all of your instincts are telling you to run as fast as you can. But you continue:
"Boys…"
And just like that is over. The secret, the one thing you've been keeping as close to your soul as you possibly could, is finally free. You're surprised that you managed to say it out loud and while keeping eye contact. You see her eyebrows go up as her eyes slightly open.
"Really?" She has a weird expression, she isn't mad or disgusted, which is great, but there is something else you can't put your finger on.
"Yeah." you say, and brace yourself for the worst when you see her look away. Maybe she was disgusted.
Maybe it was a mistake, your relationship was fine and now she's gonna be all awkward and weird and it was the stupidest thing ever! What the hell were you even thinking?! You're not in a big city, this is the middle of Hawkins! What kind of reaction were you even expecting?
You take a breath when you notice she wants to say something, not optimistic at the fact that she's still not looking at you. Her gaze is stuck on her shoes, those red converse she had let you fill with dumb doodles. There was one in particular she liked the best, and it always caused fights because, objectically, it was the worst drawn one. It was a little crappy plane, made with black marker, with two little stick figures on top of it, holding hands. And below there you had written "operation croissant, phase one:"
You had talked about running away, it was definitely your biggest desire –especially now, when you've possibly lost the only good thing in this town–, but money was tight and there was no way to do it before finishing highschool. And you still had a year and a half of that bullshit. Also now you'll have to split the money you guys had saved and plan different trips and the idea of running didn't sound half as appealing on your own. An–
"I don't like them either…." she whispers so low you aren't even sure she talked in the first place.
"What?" you also whisper, but loud enough.
"I don't like boys either "
And before you have any time to even start to process that bomb of information you hear a knock on the door.
"I brought juice for the toast!" you hear her mother say. Robin quickly wipes away her own tears and opens the door. "I didn't know if you guys would want t–"
"Thank you, mom. Bye!" She cuts her off. Mrs Buckley frowns but understands and goes away, not before asking you one more time if you're okay.
"I'm fine, Mrs Buckley, I swear."
"Oh cmon, Y/N, you know you can call me Melissa…"
"Goodbye, mom!" pushes Robin.
"I'm going, i'm going!"
But even though she has clearly interrupted possibly the biggest moment of your friendship, you were glad she did. Cause now when Robin closes the door behind her back the first thing you guys do is laugh at the absurdity of the moment.
It’s one of those laughs that cannot be stopped. Sooner than later you're laying down in the middle of her room, gasping for air in between shrieks of laughter. After a minute that feels a lot longer, silence invades you once again.
She was fucking gay too.
Who would have thought?
And even though, in theory, this would be a pretty good win for you, a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Even though you knew for sure you weren't alone in this anymore. That single fact leads to another dilemma:
Being irretrievably in love with her, did it hurt less when you knew there wasn't any chance of her returning those feelings? When there was an actual, biological, explanation? Were things better now, when you could hang on to this little piece of hope? Or did it just make it worse? Knowing her lack of affection had everything to do with you and not with something you can't change or choose.
"Should we talk?" she asks, scared of breaking the peace in the room.
"It's 11:58, Rob." you point out as you sit down next to her in bed. Her worried face lights up when she hears the nickname, which does not help you at all with this not being stupidly in love with her thing "Let's toast first, we actually have something to celebrate this year, don't we?"
She nods and you two cheer with the juice her mom brought, not without adding a bit of the secret vodka below Robin's bed.
Forty peaceful minutes –and probably like three or four more glasses of the mix you had just created– after you find yourselves on the roof. You know drunk people and heights are usually combinations people with common sense seem to avoid, but you both were tired of living like that. Ruled by things you didn't believe in. And tonight had definitely meant freedom, even if the biggest part of the secret was still a secret. So you celebrated this way. Being drunk and stupid, just for the night.
But there was one factor you hadn't considered. If resisting her sober was living hell, the alcohol in your blood made it borderline impossible.
"Can I ask you a question?" she asks. And you're almost too distracted watching her watch the sky to even respond. You liked to pretend it was only the moon that made her shine that way.
"Sure." and you know it's a mistake as soon as it leaves your lips.
"Why did you even date him?"
"My parents were getting suspicious." you lie. Cause again, saying 'cause I'm so deeply in love with you that I desperately needed anything and anyone to get you out of my head' seemes a liiitle too much. "Saying that I should 'lower my standards’ or whatever. They were also thinking about introducing me to someone themselves…"
"I don't think my parents know…"
"I don't think they'll be mad or anything" You say. She doesn't look as convinced.
"There's a big difference between not being mad and being actually supportive, right?"
"Yeah" You agree "Honestly, I don't think i'll ever tell my dad" Robin nods, she understands. She actually does. It still feels insane.
"Can I ask another question?"
"Of course, dummy"
"How did you find out?"
"A girl at the beach. I must've been eight or nine. We spent the whole summer together and the last night before I left she kissed me on our secret tree." You smile at the memories. At least that one was a cute story.
"Oh, that's so sweet!" She whines.
"Yeah. Never saw her again, though. Now I can't even remember her name…"
"But, wait, have you known since then??" She realizes after a second of silence, only filled by the sound of the wind.
"Yep, pretty much." She mutters 'wow' under her breath "Why? When did you find out?"
"Last year."
"Last year?"
Robin nods and you frown. "Tammy Thompson."
"Right! Of course Tammy Thompson!" You laugh and suddenly her face is all red and she's throwing little pieces of candy wrappers at you. "Half of sophomore year talking about how good she sings and how she was 'born to be in the spotlight'!"
"Shut up!"
"–And that's why you were so obsessed with Steve Harrington! Cause Tammy liked him! Everything makes sense now!"
"I was not obsessed with The Hair Harrington!"
"Yeah, you were" silence invades you once again and your focus shifts from the view to her face.
Her perfect little nose, filled with millions of freckles that, at least for you, were a hundred times more interesting than the constellations she was always telling you about.
"Well I'm not anymore…"
Her lips are a little cracked and slightly blue because of the wind, but you imagined they tasted like magic, hope and the chocolates and cherry juice you just had.
"I know."
Her hair runs free, like it always does, she hated it but you thought it captured her spirit perfectly. She would roll her eyes, not noticing the complement between the lines.
"Good…" She whispers. More to herself than to you.
She zones out for a minute, admiring Hawkins from the heights. There’s, obviously, no one in sight and it’s quiet. It must be really late.
"At least now we have an actual reason to run away from here" She says.
"You don't think Hawkins is ever going to be a place where we could live in peace?"
"No" She responds without missing a beat. You know she's right. "Do you think that place exists?"
"Yes." You don't miss a beat either. Yeah, you two were pretty fucked, but now that you had eachother it was clear that it wasnt the end of the world "We could go to San Francisco? Maybe New York?"
"There we could be free?"
"There we'd at least have a chance to fight for it."
You hear the wind louder and louder and you notice she's freezing. When you both decided to climb the window you had anticipated this exact situation and grabbed a blanket that now laid on your shoulders. You try to hand it over to her but she refuses –"I swear I'm not cold!" she clearly lies in between shivers– so you make her a bit of room and convince her to sit right next to you and share it.
Again, your slightly intoxicated brain didn't think it through, cause now you are very close. You could hear her heartbeat, smell her shampoo and feel her legs against yours kind of close.
"Y/N?"
"Yes, Robin?"
"How did you know I was looking at Steve Harrington?"
You freeze. What are you even supposed to do right now?
Keep lying?
You had tasted the truth for the first time today and it had been wonderful. Maybe it’s pushing your luck, but she smells so good and her eyes shine so bright and she’s so close and you just really want her to stop asking questions so…
You kiss her.
And for two eternal seconds you feel the same sensation you have when you jump to the water from a trampoline. That second in the air when you don't really know if the water is really gonna catch you. That second of doubt, of not knowing if you're flying or falling.
Until she kisses back.
After a couple minutes you break apart slightly. Foreheads still touching and breaths still impossible to tell apart.
“With all of this I forgot your gift at home” is the first thing you say. Robin chuckles without opening her eyes just yet.
“I can think of a way for you to make it up to me…” she jokes.
“Mhm?” You play dumb. “Alright, then I’ll keep the Italian version of ‘If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler’ for myself then”
Robin’s eyes open to the point you're concerned about her corneas.
“I think I want to reconsider my options, please.” You laugh and kiss her once again.
“Too late.”

How does Joyce react to finding out there was someone else stuck wherever will was and doing whatever they could to protect them? Especially someone whos also literally a child?
joyce is torn. on one hand, she's glad that will's not there alone. on the other, she's terrified for both of them and wants to get them both back. and she will get them back.
the thing is, joyce knows the buckley's. well, she knows of them. she knows they have a daughter and she knows that the daughter might be jonathan's age? she's not sure. but they aren't really 'neighbors' in the neighborly sense. but when she realizes it's the buckley girl who's with will, her and hop work twice as hard to bring them back.
when joyce and hop do find them in the upside down, it's hop who sees the open and scabbed over wounds on robin. joyce knows then that robin put her own life at risk, this lanky 15 year old girl--who didn't even know will--put herself between the danger and her son. once they're out of the upside down, joyce sobs into hop's shoulder.
once robin and will are in the hospital, joyce talks to robin. (who's not had many visitors. kate and milton have come a few times, and mr. hauser even came by to visit. he also brought her a new book, a dual language edition of crime and punishment. her parents have visited a few times, but they don't sit down at the hospital with her. too many "negative vibes" in the hospital, her mother claims. joyce fumes at this. how dare they.) joyce notices now the healed pinkish scars that now litter her arms, her shoulder blades, the one that decorates her cheek, and tears up. robin, confused, thinks she's upset joyce. it's quite the opposite, actually. joyce thanks robin, through her sobs and constricting throat, for keeping her son safe. she apologizes for robin getting sucked down there with will, and she tells her that it shouldn't have been her. she's just a kid. and well, robin doesn't know what to do. she's never had any parental figure show her this much kindness in one fell swoop.
the kids too, thank her for keeping him safe, and they all talk about how cool she looks with those scars, how it looks. she looks like a hero, like one of their dnd heroes. lucas and dustin rave about her, and they tell her stories from their dnd campaign since she can't really watch any movies in the hospital.
what makes it extra special, is that joyce invites robin to their christmas dinner that year.

Pearl's mother — one of nine kids and whose father had two wives — ran away from home at 17, got knocked up by a man who was part of a cult-like religious organization in Provo, Utah, that she met at the strip club where she worked, and then got ghosted by him. She left Utah, went west, and had Pearl in Palmdale, California. Her mother went back to stripping when she was very young and often left her alone and to fend for herself, and then, when Pearl was in her early teens, married the owner of the strip joint, who also happened to be a drug trafficker. When she was 17 he started trying to get Pearl to strip at his club and that was the last straw. She left home at 18 after graduating high school and ended up in Aurora Bay with a roommate a few years later. She tried community college but hated it and works at the movie house theater now.

BIOGRAPHY.
**trigger warnings for parental abuse and neglect, allusion to homelessness, mention of religious extremism, drug trafficking, alcoholism
Helena Foughner's mother was one of Josiah Foughner's two wives, and she herself was just one of his nine children. It was a deeply toxic family and he was a deeply toxic and abusive man, and she ran away from all of it when she was seventeen years old, about four months before she would have failed to graduate high school with the rest of her peers. She didn't get far at first — she stayed in and around the Provo and Salt Lake areas for the next few years, often couch-surfing with friends and staying with boyfriends and frequenting motel rooms.
In her early twenties Helena discovered stripping, and it was through this that she finally started making enough money to get an apartment of her own; it was also how she met Kristoff Mack. He was charming in a way that disturbed and fascinated her, and not long after the second or third time they slept together did Helena find herself knocked up with his child and unable to contact him. Devastated and pregnant and terrified and with more hatred in her heart for Utah than ever before, Helena decided to leave for good. With what little money she'd saved, she traveled west just her and her unborn baby, before finally settling down in Palmdale, California, almost nine months later where Pearl was born.
Helena started stripping again just a couple years later. Pearl was often left with neighbors or cheap babysitters or completely alone, because daycare was too expensive and Helena couldn't keep a steady relationship to save her life.
Until she could, of course. George Baker owned the strip joint, and he took a liking to Helena. George Baker was also a drug trafficker, and not a very nice man. As Pearl got older her mother stopped stripping, married George, and allowed him to take care of them, which meant Pearl suddenly had some man pretending to be her father figure when it came to all the shitty stuff but none of the good stuff. He thought Pearl was an instigative little brat and he was right, and she thought he was an evil son of bitch and she was right. Helena was drinking too much by the time Pearl was a teenager to do anything about the abusive way her husband spoke to her daughter. She was also too drunk to be any help when, just before turning eighteen, George approached Pearl about stripping in his club. So she didn't bother ratting him out to her mom at all — Pearl simply left home the minute she turned eighteen and graduated high school.
Unlike her mother before her, Pearl had saved up just enough money through retail jobs she worked in high school to afford an apartment with a friend, and they ended up in Aurora Bay. There, Pearl tried a few different jobs before settling at the Movie House Theater, which she enjoyed because she'd always loved movies and, if she'd been able to last longer than three semester at a nearby community college, would likely have gone on to study film.
That being said, her rough start to life never instilled in her much confidence and that on top of hating the school setting meant she gave up on that idea quickly. She's not content with what she does but doesn't have the ambition to try for anything better, so a lot of her externalized rage is a product of that deep unhappiness and dissatisfaction with her life and her perceived ability to change it.
She dates on and off, sleeps around a lot more. Despite it never helping, she tries to fill the gaping void in her life with meaningless relationships that only end up making her feel worse in the end, and often leave her with additional trauma to pile on top of the rest.
Recently, she's started looking into her biological father out of some misplaced notion that understanding where she comes from might somehow give her a sense of purpose. Her mother never spoke of her father save for a first name, but through some deep digging she finally managed to get a last name as well and connect it to a man in Provo, Utah, who was part of a cult-like religious organization with a freaky recruiting website. It's not really a surprise to her given who her mother is, but it was still, deep down, just another confirmation that her life is garbage and she comes from shitty stock with bad luck.

canon list of stranger things characters
Disclaimer: in regards to canon, i'm going off the show canon. the stranger things play is canon to the show, so any details from that will be added in. all information is pulled from the show, the play, and the writers themselves. the books are canon-adjacent and therefore are listed separately, though Flight of Icarus is considered canon as it is written by one of the show writers.

Abused part 2 pls
A/N: Trigger warning. Mentions of blood and death. Read at your own risk.
---
Buck clutched your cold hand as the ambulance swerved it's way to the hospital. Before the paramedics could bring you into the ambulance, you stopped breathing. While one of the men was already compressing your chest an trying to regain a heart rhythm, the other tried to insert at tube between the pumping to expand your lungs and get you to breathe.
They were doing everything they could to revive you.
Your brothers initial tears of shock had subsided and were replaced by the panic that had begun to set in, fear bubbled up inside of him that he could lose the most important person in his life besides his other sister. For him, it felt like losing a part of himself.
When the ambulance stopped in front of the hospital, the paramedics rushed the stretcher through the door. The blood that was now dripping from your body onto the lounger made itself independent and formed a red line on the bare tile floor where the rollers slid over it.
The blonde ran with you so fast and so far until he was stopped by the nurses and reluctantly had to let go of your hand. "You can't go past this point, Mr..?" The nurse and one of the paramedics stopped him from forcing his way through the door and getting to you, totally ignoring the question, his eyes still fixed on the distance where you were pushed around the corner and disappeared.
Still, he tried to follow. "I promised I wouldn't leave her!"
"Doctors will come to you and give you information about her condition as soon as she is stable. Please sit in the waiting room until then."
Buckley stumbled a few steps backwards and everything started for him to move like in slow motion. The people who were rushing back and forth next to him a short while ago were now blurred and slower. The ticking of the clock slowed down, the noise deepened and he turned once in a circle, barely controlling his body.
He looked down at trembling and bloody hands that revealed his true feelings. He had to be strong for you, the fear and panic could wait, his tears could disappear from his face. Buck was always the strongest one of you three, he had to. But now, he had to be extra strong.
For you.
A hand touched his shoulder blade and he turned. It was his older sister and Athena, which probably rushed her up from work in the police car so she wouldn't get nervous in traffic and go crazy. Despite all the negative emotions he felt swirling inside of him, he found happiness deep inside knowing, that they were there with him.
Maddie fell around his neck crying and her arms pressed him closer to her. Her sobbing could hardly be overheard, even if the hospital had the greatest back round noise. Buck didn't hugged her back, he was paralyzed in his rigidity. The only thing that was moving were his eyes - they wandered to the dark-haired one in front of him.
She must have seen something in his eyes or maybe he wasn't good at hiding his feelings when she stepped closer and put a hand on his cheek. "Sometimes, it's okay not to be strong."
Once this sentence got threw into the room, he collapsed into her sisters arms and let her hold him together before Athena slowly lead them over to the empty chairs in the waiting room, where they both sat down next to each other and Maddie continued to hold him in her arms tightly.
---
Slowly you opened your eyes - but pinching them back together when the light hit your eyes too strong.
You had expected grey, cold walls with beeping machines around you and nurses that hooked you up to some IV's. But this place was large and empty, almost like a classroom without anything in it.
You looked down at you and saw, that you were no longer bleeding. Scared, you pinched yourself and felt no pain - your arm was no longer bruised and you could stand on your leg. All your blemishes had vanished into nothing. Your casual clothes that were blood smired were no longer on your body and you realized that you had a white, knee long dress on. Not a hospital gown, but more like a girly summer dress.
You felt like it was just a bad nightmare and you were waking up.
You didn't think you could been happier; you danced to the slow harmonic melody and spun in little circles before you stopped, seeing a person watching you. "Hello?" you whispered but you became no answer. You slowly took a step forward, as if you were floating on clouds before you stopped again and looked a little sharper.
"Grandmother.." you stated before your legs started to sprint towards the woman and you leaped into her open arms. Her arms tightened around your middle and you hugged her back. You closed your eyes and took in the warmth and the homely aura that flew around her.
You could feel her?
You quickly detached yourself from her again and jumped a few inches away from her before you looked her deep in the eyes. It was definitely your grandma, that couldn't be a fake, a stupid prank or a dream.
Then it hit you out of the blue.
"Am I dead?" she laughed slightly and held out her hand to your face. You hesitated and shrank before the warmth of her palm reached your cheek and you gave in. She gently caressed your reddish cheek and gave you a half-hearted smile.
It didn't look real, but you couldn't feel any negative or sad tension. It was as if this level didn't allow any sadness and there was none here. But where were you anyway? Your grandmother died and was in heaved so you assumed you were too.
"No." she said finally. "You're just here for a visit. Consider it as a reward for all the pain you've been going through before you came here."

Watch Me Fall Apart (And I'll Be Yours to Keep)
1856 words. After a tough rescue, both Eddie and Buck end up in the hospital.
title from only love by ben howard. i wrote most of this in one sitting with no beta so just *gestures vaguley* here
They've both been here too many times to count—covered in soot, smoke in their lungs, sweat plastering their hair to their faces, but never at the same time. Never where the other can't be near to see, to place a hand on a shoulder, to lean against in support. A fire in a high-rise, a family trapped on the upper floors, and that's all it took for Buck to grab the ropes, Eddie behind him, because where one goes, the other follows. It's their routine, their deal, the promise to have each other's backs, to support whenever needed, it's just never ended them both in the hospital at the same time.
Eddie is the first one released—Buck had been the first to go in, and made sure that Eddie was out before him, because of course he did. And maybe Eddie should've insisted that Buck get out before him, should've argued with him for an extra five seconds, should've done something so that Buck doesn't have to spend the night in the hospital alone. But he didn't, and now Eddie is being sent home and the doctor is refusing to let him see Buck.
"Mr. Diaz," the doctor says, "Your friend is fine."
Eddie wants to argue with her, because friend? Friend? Like Buck and Eddie have been anything but friends for a long time. Like Buck isn't laying in a hospital bed alone, when Eddie should be there to support him. Like by denying him seeing Buck, all the smoke that was in Eddie's lungs returns and it's almost impossible to breathe for the second time tonight.
"He's asleep now and resting," she continues when Eddie opens his mouth to argue, "Which you should be doing, too. You need to go home and rest, you can come see him in the morning."
"But—"
"Mr. Diaz," she cuts him off, remaining polite, but obviously frustrated, "Visiting hours have been over for a long time, and Mr. Buckley will be discharged in the morning. Someone will give you a call, and you can pick him up then."
The doctor's tone is one of finality, but Eddie can't take no for an answer. Before he can continue pleading his case, Bobby arrives. He comes over to Eddie and the doctor, placing a reassuring hand on Eddie's shoulder. "I've got it from here, thanks doc," he says, before steering Eddie toward the exit. They've barely made it out the doors before Eddie shakes Bobby's hand from his shoulder, and turns on him.
"Bobby," he all but begs, "You have to let me see him. They brought us in at the same time, but I haven't seen him since. I know it's smoke inhalation, and probably some fatigue and dehydration, but they won't let me see him." Eddie knows how he sounds, knows it's desperate in a way he normally isn't, but it's Buck. It's Buck, who has ended up in hospitals more times than he cares to count, who is his partner, who made sure that Eddie got out of the building first, even knowing it would land him more time here—he can't just leave him behind.
"Eddie," Bobby says as evenly as possible—it's the same tone he uses on distraught spouses, and Eddie wants to cry, "I need you to take a breath for a minute, okay? Just take a moment to calm down, and then we'll figure it out."
And yeah, Eddie probably does need to collect himself, because while smoke inhalation can be serious, Buck is getting exactly the care he needs right now. There's nothing for Eddie to do, yet it doesn't stop the helplessness that's settled in the space between his ribs, which only worsened after the doctor told him he was being discharged without Buck. So, Eddie shuts his eyes, and allows himself a few moments to just breathe, to focus on the air entering and then leaving his lungs, to focus on the feeling of his chest rising and falling. It helps steady him, helps him come back to a relatively even keel.
"Are you good to drive?" Is the first thing that Bobby asks once Eddie opens his eyes. He doesn't think he can talk without freaking out again, so he nods his response. "Okay, good. What's going to happen is I'm going to drive you back to the station, you're going to get your truck, take it home, see Christopher, and go to sleep. Because the doctor was right, you need to rest. And in the morning, when the hospital calls you, you'll go pick up Buck. Sound like a plan?"
Now that he's calmed down and the adrenaline that's been keeping him alert has worn off, Eddie feels a deep tiredness settle in his bones, and it takes all his remaining energy to stay on his feet. Again, Eddie nods in response, walks over to the car, and says, "Take me to the station, Cap." And that's what Bobby does.
Normally, when one of the crew returns from the hospital, the rest of the shift is there to greet them, but no one is there when Eddie arrives, and he's grateful. His nerves are fried, he's exhausted, and he doesn’t think he could handle the team's questions right now. All he wants to do is shower, grab his bag, and go home—thankfully, he's able to do that without even hearing the low hum of conversation that's ever present in the loft.
Eddie is locking the front door behind him and taking off his shoes while he debates whether or not to wake Chris just so he can give him a hug. It's only when he's finally made it to Chris' door that he has his answer—not because he came to a decision himself, but because one was made for him.
Chris' bed is empty, and for a heartbeat Eddie panics, because Christopher isn't in his bed, but then he remembers: he was injured on hour twelve of a twenty-four-hour shift, so of course Chris isn't here. And Eddie should feel relieved, should feel calmer now, but all he can think about is the fact that he can't see his son, and he can't see Buck, and suddenly it's like the anchors that were holding his mooring in place have let go, and he's adrift.
Eddie tries to breathe, tries to remind himself that both his boys are okay, they're both being looked after, they're both safe. He goes to the kitchen, fills a glass with water, and drinks it all in one go. He fills it again, this time bringing it to his room, setting it down on the table beside his bed. Eddie changes into an old t-shirt that Buck left behind ages ago and an old pair of army sweatpants before he slides into bed.
Now that he's home and in bed, the exhaustion should be catching up with him, all but dragging him to sleep. Except, now that Eddie's alone, he can't stop thinking about how quiet the house is, how empty it feels. Even on nights when Chris is away at a sleepover, Buck would always come over, and they'd watch a movie, or a hockey game, or just talk over beers. The negative space, normally filled by laughter and jokes and, god, even Buck's snoring in his ear, feels like a noose around his neck. No matter what he does, Eddie just cannot sleep.
So, Eddie lays in bed and does his best not to think about the call that ended him up here, and Buck alone in the hospital. Does his best not to think about how he should have told Buck to take the daughter out while he got the father. Does his best not to think about how Buck removed his mask to help the victim breathe, and putting himself in danger. A shuddering sob rips through his chest, and he forces himself to sit up because he needs to get air in his lungs or he'll choke on his guilt and fear.
The clock on beside his bed reads quarter after five, so he figures that's good enough for morning, and gets up. He can't stay in his empty house any longer, so Eddie slips on the worn sweater that he keeps hanging off the back of his door, grabs his keys and wallet, puts on his shoes, and then he's out the door.
The drive to the hospital is quick, but now he has nothing to do but wait. He turns on the radio, but keeps it low so that it's just a hum in the background. At some point, Eddie must doze, because the next thing he knows, he's being startled awake by his ringtone and the clock on his dashboard reads half past seven.
"Hello, is this Mr. Di—"
"Yes," he interrupts the caller, not caring how he sounds, "I'm outside."
"Okay, we'll send him to you now." And it's all Eddie can do to mumble a quick thank you before hanging up.
He doesn't go up to the doors, but his truck is parked close enough to the front that Buck can't miss him. Still, he gets out, leans against the driver side door, and waits. It doesn't take long, maybe a minute or two, and Buck is walking out the doors, looking side to side, eyes searching. He's clean, his curls are soft, if a little messy, and his whole face lights up the moment he sees Eddie.
"You look like shit," is the first thing Buck says to him. He comes right up to Eddie, less than a foot away, and Eddie has to clutch his hands together so he doesn't reach out and touch. But even without touching him, the weight that has made a home in Eddie's chest since last night melts away, like it's made of ice and Buck of flame.
"Well," Eddie tries to joke, "Not all of us got our beauty sleep." But he can't hide the heaviness in his voice, he can't help how it wavers now that the tension is gone, he can't help but lower his head.
"Hey, Eddie," Buck says earnestly, taking hands he didn't even realize were shaking in his own.
And it's the softness in his voice, the thumb running over his knuckles, the pulse he can feel once he lets himself grip Buck's wrist, that gives him the strength to answer, "Yeah, Buck?"
"We're okay," Buck tells him, like a promise. Like the answer to a question Eddie hadn't dared ask because it terrified him. Buck's hands move from their grip on Eddie's, one hand sliding around his waist, the other coming to the back of his head.
"Yeah," Eddie whispers into the space between Buck's shoulder and neck, "we're okay."
Buck only holds him tighter now, his lips pressed to Eddie's temple, as he releases a shuttering breath. They stay there, each clutching the other, until they no longer feel adrift, until their moorings are once again anchored in a cove, and no longer lost in the rolling waves of the open ocean.

--
It’s a weird call to begin with—the 911 dispatcher reports that the caller complained of chest pains, probably from a heart attack, but he also mentioned someone named Viola. The caller, a Mr. Ted Jackson, apparently passed out before the dispatcher could find out exactly who Viola was. The call takes them to the outskirts of LA, and they arrive at a decently sized house in the middle of an even larger storm.
The neighborhood is one of those ones where all the houses look alike, so the one thing that really distinguishes the caller is the large Jeep Wrangler parked out front. The rain is coming down hard now, and Chimney really only sees the Wrangler when he’s jogging past it, med kit in hand and Buck at his side. Hen, Eddie, and Bobby bring up the rear with the stretcher, which they’ll leave on the ground floor till they find Ted Jackson. Since they don’t know where exactly in the house he is, Hen and Eddie will take the second floor, Chimney and Buck the first, and Bobby the basement.
They separate as soon as they enter the house, all three groups peeling off from each other. Chimney and Buck make their way through the entryway, then take a left into the dining room, and are just about to enter the living room when the lights flicker and then go out. Chimney pauses and Buck bumps into his back.
He’d had his eyes on the light switch, so Chimney reaches for it, flicks it back and forth, and then shrugs at Buck’s outline when the room stays dark. He keys at his radio, twisting to talk into it.
“The storm took out the lights,” Chimney says. “Any chance someone’s near the circuit breakers?”
“Negative,” Bobby says after a moment. “But I’ll take a look down here. How’s your own search going?”
“Well,” Buck answers. “It’s going.” He’s gone from being a dark shape against other dark shapes to having actual features, and Chimney waits as he reaches for the flashlight attached to his hip.
The light illuminates the room, and Chimney just gets a glimpse of something big, black, and furry before Buck is in front of him.
“Buck,” he says, and he’ll forever deny that his voice cracks. “Please tell me that’s not what I think it is.”
“Uh,” Buck says, and his voice is so low that Chimney has to strain to hear him. “I don’t think you’ll like the answer. Just back away, slowly.”
Chimney does as Buck says, stepping back and suddenly wishing they’d had a reason to be wearing full turnout gear, even in the middle of the summer.
“Bobby,” Chimney says lowly, talking to the radio again. “Bobby you need to get everyone else out of here. And call animal control.”
“What?” Bobby asks. “Why animal control?”
Chimney peeks around Buck when they finally reach the doorway, then swallows harshly. The thing is definitely closer than it had been. Something on the far side of the room glints in Buck’s flashlight beam. Chimney can’t help but peer closer at it, wondering—and it is.
“Buck that’s our guy,” he says, the glasses he spotted still shining in the corner, but it’s not until the thing swings its head to stare at Chimney that he realizes he spoke at the regular, urgent volume he normally does when faced with a patient he hasn’t reached yet.
Buck freezes.
“Why do you need animal control?” Bobby asks again, and his voice somehow rings out even louder than Chimney’s.
Chimney would give anything to not know what it feels like to have a fully grown panther stare him down with its ears flat back, but here he is. Something curdles in his gut, and the very very very very small part of him not focused on the freaking panther—why does this guy have a panther in his living room?—recognizes it as terror. His legs won’t move anymore, no matter how much he tells them to.
The panther’s muscles ripple under its fur coat, and its tail lashes once.
It’s the only warning they get before it lunges.
Chimney crashes to the ground, Buck on top of him, and all the air whooshes from his lungs. He tries heaving in a breath but that just makes it worse, and he can do nothing but watch as Buck rolls in the opposite direction, taking the panther with him.
“Chimney?” Bobby asks, for the third time now, his voice urgent, and Chimney can hear footsteps clattering on the stairs. He’s not sure if they’re coming down or up; it may not really matter. “Buck? What’s happening?”
“Shit,” Chimney wheezes. Somehow he manages to climb to his feet, his grip tight on the doorway and his chest still heaving. His mind is racing. They don’t have a sedative strong enough to take out a cat as big as this one, let alone animal tranquilizers, but he can’t just leave Buck to the mercy of a freaking panther of all things. He can’t leave his future brother-in-law in this situation. And hell, who is he kidding. He can’t leave his brother.
Chimney turns and bolts out of the living room right as Bobby reaches it, and he yells what he hopes Bobby will make out as “Distract it!” as he runs for the house’s entryway.
One of the things about emergency stretchers, Chimney has learned through his years on the job, is that they can be heavy. The other thing is that they’re portable, easily moved.
It turns out they also make excellent ramming devices.
By the time animal control arrives, Chimney is already patching Buck up outside. Eddie and Hen are in the ambulance taking Ted Jackson to the hospital, Bobby is watching Buck with crossed arms and a frown, and the panther is safely locked inside the house, relatively unharmed. Chimney doesn’t even think he knocked her out, just deterred her enough to back off and let them retrieve Buck and the panther’s owner.
Buck himself is… mostly fine. Chimney frowns at the thought even as he finishes wrapping a bandage around yet another gash. The panther swiped at Buck, but she really only hit his forearms and biceps, Buck having managed to hold her at arms’ length the entire time.
“Those long arms finally good for something, huh, Buckaroo?” Chimney murmurs.
Buck gives him a weak smile. “This and basketball, I guess.”
“Yeah?” Chimney asks, even though he already knew that. “You and Albert should play sometime.”
“Mm, yeah, we have,” Buck says.
“Mm,” Chimney copies. “That’s good.”
“Yeah,” Buck says.
Finally they both stand, Buck’s wounds wrapped and set till they can get him to the hospital for care there. Bobby nods at them both, still frowning, but Buck avoids his gaze and Bobby turns toward the firetruck’s driver’s seat.
“Hey, Buck,” Chimney says, clapping a hand on Buck’s shoulder.
Buck glances at him. “Yeah?”
Chimney pauses, his grip tightening briefly as he sees the worried look on his friend’s face. There’s a lot of things he could say—“don’t ever do that again,” “you’re lucky you’re off blood thinners,” “Maddie’s going to kill me,” “Maddie’s going to kill you,” “boy I don’t envy that talk you’re gonna have with Bobby.” But there’s really only one that needs saying now. One he needs Buck to hear.
“Thanks.”
Buck’s face clears immediately, relief shining in his eyes and his shoulders relaxing even as he smiles. “I’m glad I was there.”
Chimney nods. He’s not sure if he entirely reciprocates the sentiment, not when it meant Buck putting himself in danger again, not when it meant Buck getting hurt again, but he is grateful Buck thought quickly. He’s even more thankful Buck lasted long enough for Chimney to respond in kind.
“C’mon,” he says finally. “Let’s go get you taken care of so you can get back out there.”

“That’s my baby daddy” please. Thank you 😊 #buddie
I am trying not to tell you (but I want to) [buck/eddie, T, 1.4k]
           “Can youturn around?”
Eddie splutters in disbelief.
           “What? No,I’m not turning around.”
“Take yourshirt off?” Buck asks hopefully.
“You’veseen me without my shirt, Buck.”
“Yeah, andit always makes me feel better. Don’t you want me to feel better?”
The effort Eddie makes to ignore the way his ears areburning with embarrassment is herculean.
             “You’regoing to feel better soon.”
“And when Ido, I’m gonna leave a negative Google review.”
Eddie smothers a laugh in his palm.
“On what? Ialready told you, I’m not your nurse.”
“I’m gonnaleave a negative Google review on your shirt. And I know you’re not my nurse,Eddie,” Buck says, as if Eddie is being particularly slow on the uptake. “Iwould never sexually harass a woman or a man doing their job.”
“But it’sokay to sexually harass your friends?”
“We’re justfriends?” Buck questions, his bottom lip trembling.
“Well…no. Iguess we’re more than friends.”
It wasn’t a lie.
They were partners at work and outside of work Eddie wouldbe lost without him.
When Buck had asked Eddie to pick him up from getting hiswisdom teeth out – Eddie had not expected this.
Still, Eddie doesn’t exactly regret it. Even sitting in thisawful plastic chair.
It’s just that Buck had been so damn cute when heasked.
He explained that he really should have gotten them outyears ago, before he turned twenty, but he never had. Now they were actuallybecoming a problem and crowding the rest of his teeth.
Eddie had made a crack about how big Buck’s mouth was beforeagreeing to it and he’d gotten a soft elbow to the ribs and a pinch to thecheek in rapid succession.
Now though…
“How’s hedoing?” the nurse asks, poking her head in.
“He’s fine,”Eddie answers, unable to keep the dryness from his voice.
“NurseBetty!” Buck cried out in joy.
Eddie winces already preparing for whatever nonsense isgoing to fall out of Buck’s mouth.
Her name wasn’t even Betty. Eddie can’t remember what hername is but it definitely starts with an M.
“Nurse Betty,” Buck says in what is maybe supposed to be astage whisper, “that’s my baby daddy.”
“Oh, really?”the nurse asks, playing along as she checks Buck’s vitals.
           “Yeah,”Buck says.
He grins so widely it’s like his whole face is glowing.
“How manychildren do you have, Mr. Buckley?”
“Just onefor now,” Buck says, sighing. He leans around the nurse to look at Eddie. “Eds,can we have more babies once I get better?”
Eddie’s sure his face is about to spontaneously combust.
           “Um,” hemanages, “of course, Buck.”
Just play along like the nurse had, right?
“You mean,”Buck says, his voice sounding suspiciously close to tears then, “you’re notgoing to leave me? You’re gonna wait until I’m better and I can go back towork?”
“Of courseI am,” Eddie chokes out.
He’s not sure where the vice around his heart came from.
Buck is just high off his ass and spouting nonsense.
“Why areyou so far away then?” Buck sniffles.
Because I’m not your boyfriend.
“Let’s letthe nurse do her job first, okay?”
           “Fine,”Buck huffs.
The nurse initials Buck’s chart and turns back to Eddie.
“We candischarge him in about twenty,” she says with a smile, “then he’s all yours.”
Eddie just smiles back, forcing himself not to respond outloud.
The last thing he needs to do is have Buck sobbing on theirway out.
As the nurse leaves Eddie picks up his chair and drags itover to Buck’s bedside.
           “Feelingokay?” he asks hesitantly.
           “Betternow,” Buck says.
He holds his hand out very obviously.
Wondering if Buck is going to remember any of this, Eddietakes it.
“When can I see Chris? I miss him.”
           “Tomorrow,”Eddie says.
He’s not at all prepared for how quickly Buck’s face falls.
“Tomorrow?Eddie, why are you mad at me? What did I do?”
“Cariño,no, I’m not mad at you. We just need to wait for you to get better first, that’sall.”
           “Really?”
“Yes. Iwould never keep you and Chris separated.”
           “Eddie,”Buck says, “I love you.”
           “I love youtoo, Buck.”
“When wehave a daughter, can we name her Charlotte? I’ve always loved that name.”
Not knowing what else to say, Eddie lets out a quiet,
           “Okay.”
Driving Buck back to his loft went better than Eddie hadexpected.
Buck was continually distracted by things out his window buthe stayed buckled in and mostly kept his hands to himself, that was all thatmattered.
“Are youhungry?” Eddie asks as he opens the door to let them in.
“No,” Buckdenies. “Hey, Eds, my mouth feels weird.”
           “Yup, youhad surgery.”
“Wow, really?I don’t remember that at all.”
Buck makes his way over to the couch and flops down onto itbefore kicking his shoes off.
           “Are yousure you’re not hungry?”
           “Yeah.”
The TV clicks on and Eddie goes to investigate the fridge.
“Eddie, can we order pizza?”
“Sure,Buck. What do you want on it?”
           “Like…everything.”
Eddie closes the fridge and leans his forehead against it.
Why did he even ask?
By the time Eddie’s got Buck tucked in bed he thinks he’sready to sleep for about sixteen hours himself.
Today was exhausting for him.
He tried his best to ignore the stuff Buck was saying but…Well, wasn’t there something to it? Didn’t there have to be?
Eddie shakes his head.
Chances were Buck wouldn’t even remember it.
It was best if he let it go too.
Buck is already up and moving around in the kitchen whenEddie wakes the next morning.
Usually when crashing on Buck’s couch he’ll wake up once ortwice during the night but he was out like a light this time.
Eddie stretches out his back and walks into the kitchen.
           “How areyou feeling?”
“Man, I feelgreat,” Buck grins. He lifts a glass with some green gunk in it andtakes a large sip. “Did you sleep okay?”
“Yeah, Iguess I was pretty beat.”
Buck visibly hesitates.
           “Did I…sayanything weird yesterday?”
“You keptcalling the nurse Betty and that was not her name.”
Buck laughs.
           “Alright,that doesn’t sound so bad.”
He lifts his glass to take another sip and Eddie can’t resist–
“You alsotold her I was your baby daddy and asked if we could have more kids when yougot better.”
The payoff is immediate, Buck chokes and spews his smoothieall over the floor in front of himself.
“Are youserious?” he demands before using the hem of his shirt to mop at his mouth.
           “Come on,Buck. I wouldn’t make that up.”
           “I wish youwould.”
“You meanyou don’t want to have kids with me? What about Charlotte?”
Buck groans, his face visibly flushing.
“God, Ishould have had Maddie pick me up.”
He sets his glass on the island and goes under the sink forpaper towels before returning to clean up his mess.
           “Sorry,”Eddie offers, “couldn’t resist.”
           “Well,sorry I was weird.”
Just that quickly, Eddie feels bad for embarrassing Buck.
“It, uh, itmeans a lot to me that you think of Chris as your son. I could never ask you todo that…but I didn’t have to.”
“Hey, Chrisis the best kid I’ve ever met. I would be honored to call him my son.”
“Maybe wecould start with dinner and a movie, Cariño.”
Eddie had meant it as a joke. At least…he was reasonablysure it was meant to be a joke.
But once the words are out Eddie realizes just how much he’snot joking.
He holds his breath, waiting to see how Buck is going toreact.
           “Ha-ha,Eddie.”
“I’mserious, Evan. I know you were high yesterday and I shouldn’t take anything yousaid to heart but…how can I not think about it?”
“You’re mybest friend,” Buck says shallowly. “We work together and Chris… There’s toomany risks, Eddie.”
           “We takerisks every day.”
Eddie takes half a step closer to him.
“I told you yesterday, I’d never keep you away from Chris. No matter what.”
Buck looks down to the paper towels crumpled in his hands.
When he glances back up his blue eyes are suspiciouslyglassy.
“Can westart with breakfast and Netflix?”
“Only if youmake me something else to eat.”

Tony groaned as his eyes opened, frowning as he tried to remember when he’d gone to sleep. The last thing he recalled was frantically looking—
He shot up in the bed he was laying in as he suddenly remembered Evan, looking around frenetically for the man. The room was dark but sunlight was starting to come in through the partially closed curtains. Where the hell was he anyways?
The billionaire decided that was something for later as he swung his legs out of the bed, fumbling with the lamp on the nightstand next to the bed he was in. When the semi-dark room was bathed in light, he was met with the room that could only belong to a teenage boy. Well, what he imagined it would look like for a normal teenage boy, since his room had looked nothing like this. Then again, he hadn’t exactly been normal. Besides, by the time he was fifteen, he was living in the MIT dorms with Rhodey as his roommate.
He quickly spotted his phone on the same nightstand as the lamp, as well as his Bluetooth. Tony quickly shoved it into his ear. “JARVIS, you up?” He wasn’t sure if it still had any battery, since it had been a terribly long day yesterday. At least, he hoped it was yesterday, since there was no telling how long he’d been out.
‘For you, sir, always,’ the AI’s familiar voice spoke in his ear.
He sighed as some of his panic subsided, but there was still the matter of Evan’s whereabouts. He’d be worried about Maddie, but she’d been perfectly unharmed, and wondered if she’d been at a hospital away from the affected zone. Tony was ashamed to admit that he’d never thought to ask Evan about what she was doing, he’d just sensed that it was something Evan had been hesitant to mention. Although he knew why she was in L.A. without Doug, whom was dead.
“How long have I been out, J? Where’s the suit, and where the hell am I?” he stood and stretched, feeling sort of rested, but not much. Well, he was use to it, since even after the Mandarin incident, he didn’t sleep too well. Even if he’d told Pepper that he would do better, that didn’t stop the nightmares, the panic attacks, and he knew it was PTSD. After all, if it walked like a duck and all that, well...
He’d just never been one to do the normal thing when one had trauma, which was go to therapy. Tony could just see his business slashed all over the newspapers. It had always been like that, even as a kid and now being Iron Man, it was ten times worse. At times he wished he’d just done what Colson (and Fury) had wanted and kept his identity as Iron Man a secret, since things would have been so much easier. Then he’d thought of the destruction that had happened, the fighter jet he’d destroyed, the vehicles that had been damaged in his fight with Iron Monger, and knew he couldn’t hide. He had to take responsibility, be held accountable for his actions; both in and out of the suit.
‘It is currently 5:25am Pacific Time, and you’ve been asleep for three hours, sir. The Mark 33 is stationed in the backyard in sentry mode and every other suit besides Peacekeeper which is still helping the police, have been charged and helping rescue workers mostly recover the dead at this point. Also, you are located in Robert Grant Nash’s residence.’
Tony paused as he was looking for his shoes, stopping as he’d bent down to search under the bed. “I’m at Cap’s house?” he asked incredulously. He bet there was a story there, but he had more pressing matters. “J, where’s Evan?”
‘Mr. Buckley is asleep at this very moment in the room next to this one.’
Tony forwent looking for his shoes and padded out of the room in his socks and headed into the room next to the one he’d woken up in. If he was at Bobby’s house, that meant the beds belonged to his kids. He hoped he hadn’t taken anyone’s bed from them.
For now he walked to the door next to the one he was in, knocking lightly in case Evan was asleep. When there was no response, he cracked open the door and peeked inside. He knew it was a huge invasion of privacy, but he just wanted to see that Evan was there and unharmed and then he would go. Whether that was back to the room he’d woken up in or not, well, he hadn’t decided yet.
He saw the man’s 6’2 frame on a bed and what he could see of the sheets and the rest of it room, this was a teenaged girl’s bedroom. From here he could tell he was sleeping peacefully and he sighed in relief. He knew about nightmares after a traumatic experience and it was good that Evan didn’t appear to be having any.
Tony quietly closed the door and moved away from the room, and finally decided that he wanted some coffee. He realized that this was because he could smell it, and it was gourmet too. Oh, someone in this house knew what good coffee was and wasn’t afraid to spend the money for it. Apparently some people were satisfied with that cheap instant kind, the uncultured fools.
He hoped he didn’t look too ragged or smell rank after spending the all yesterday and last night in the same clothes. Tony told JARVIS to order him some simple clothes to be delivered to Bobby’s residence. His AI told him that it, as well as some toiletries would be delivered within the hour. Hopefully he’d be able to get a cup or two of that coffee and perhaps beg off their hospitality for a piece of toast and some eggs.
Tony came into the kitchen to find Bobby Nash leaning against the counter, looking exhausted in his grubby LAFD uniform. There was a cup of coffee in his hand and his eyes were closed, and Tony wondered if he’d fallen asleep like that. Poor guy was likely ready to collapse, especially if he’d just gotten in.
“As much as I hate to wake you up, because you look bone weary, but I refuse to let you waste good coffee,” he told him, since the cup looked moments away from slipping out of his hand.
Bobby jerked awake as his fingers tightened on the coffee cup, and it was either not too full or already halfway drunk, but none of it thankfully sloshed over the side to spill on the man’s hand. “Tony,” the man greeted, but was interrupted by a face cracking yawn before he could say more.
“You look how I feel most mornings after a forty-eight hour binge in the lab working on a deadline for SI,” he chuckled. The man sighed as he ran a hand through his short hair, and was, as always, reminded a little bit of Howard. This man exuded the sternness the man had possessed, but none of the coldness. There was a softness that tempered the steel underneath, and Tony found himself liking Bobby more and more.
“You shouldn’t be awake,” he told Tony. He waved him on when he asked if he could have a cup of coffee. “It’s only been three hours since you collapsed.” He could feel the man’s eyes on him as he found a cup with his instructions and then poured himself some much needed coffee.
“Yeah, well, one learns to live on little to no sleep when we’re in this line of work,” he said, taking a large gulp of the coffee and not caring as it burned his tongue. That was definitely some great coffee. “What about you? You look like something the cat dragged in, chewed up, threw up, and then chewed up again.”
Bobby chuckled as he nodded. “I feel like it too,” he admitted. He took a sip of his now lukewarm coffee, and Tony wondered how long he’d been leaning against that counter, battling his eyelids that kept trying to close.
“Well, is there any particular reason you’re not heading up for a shower and some much deserved rest?” He lifted the cup and took a more measured sip. “Or is it the unexpected guests in your home that’s preventing you from getting some rest?”
He knew some people would likely not feel comfortable sleeping while there was a stranger in their house. Tony would happily leave if that was the case, with no hard feelings. Bobby Nash was a man Tony could learn to respect, did respect after seeing him in action last night, so wouldn’t hold it against him if Tony was making him uncomfortable. The man had likely not intended for some strange billionaire to take up one of his kid’s beds.
Bobby blinked at him confused for a moment until his sluggish brain caught on to what he was saying. “No, that’s not it,” he said firmly. “I offered my home in the first place, and it would be pretty hypocritical to then have a problem with it.” He paused to yawn once again. “I’m actually waiting for my wife to get off her shift before turning in,” he admitted. “I told her that you were sleeping in Harry’s bed, but I’m not sure she quite believed me. So, I’m glad you’re up and she can see you with her own eyes.”
“Or, we can take a selfie together and send it to her?” Tony said with a mischievous grin.
Bobby straighten and stretched with a groan as he checked his watch. “No, she should be home in the next few minutes,” he said. As he grabbed his phone, it gave a tweet and Tony gave it a curious look.
“Is that her?” he asked, hoping he wasn’t being nosy.
“No... it’s... a reminder,” he mumbled. “But I don’t know if I’ll still be expected to go. The hospital was in the flooding zone.”
“The hospital? Are you sick or something, Cap?” The thought of a man like Bobby Nash could be sick, who risked his life every day for the people of this city didn’t sit well with him. He quickly typed out a message to JARVIS to make a new fund for service women and men that were battling cancer, as well as other physical and mental illnesses.
“Oh no, I uh,” he paused and looked down like he was embarrassed by something. “I donate blood once every three weeks. I’m, um, part of the rare donors program.”
Tony blinked in surprise, since he was expecting anything except that. “Oh yeah? Like, you’re O negative or something?”
Bobby shook his head from side to side. “Uh no, rare type of blood that has the ability to cure rhesus disease, actually,” he murmured.
Tony had a few doctorates but none of them were in medicine. “That doesn’t sound pleasant.”
The older man shook his head. “It isn’t. I read up on it and... it’s, well, not many fetuses that are affected survive.”
Tony leaned against the counter with his cup in hand with a bit of a crooked smile. “So, your blood has the ability to save babies? And you’re a firefighter?” He shook his head and drank the rest of his coffee and reached for the pot again. “You’re full of surprises, Cap.”
“If you say so,” he told him, grunting in affirmative when Tony offered to top off his cup once again. “But I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go with the hospital being in the flood zone, and after the shift I’ve had, I’m likely to sleep for a whole day I think.”
“Well, if there’s anything I can help you with, let me know. It’s the least I can do for the hospitality you’ve shown me.”
They drank their coffees in a comfortable silence, and maybe Tony was too tired to ramble as he usually did. It could be that he just felt at ease in the man’s presence, which would be something unheard of for him when it came to someone he’d just met the other day.
“I meant to ask,” Tony said, remembering one of their meetings. “Did you ever find that Captain... Cooper?” He hoped he got the name right, since last night had been one long hour after another for him to be able to remember everyone’s names.
Bobby sighed and once more ran a hand through his short hair and Tony feared the worst, regretting having brought it up. “Yeah, they found him,” he said, voice sounding weary. “He was brought in before either of us got there... minus one of his arms, unfortunately.”
Tony grimaced and looked down at his coffee, wishing he had his sunglasses with him. One of the reasons he always wore them was that he’d been told that his eyes were very expressive. “I’m sorry to hear that.” He paused as he remembered the female firefighter that had been rescuing people at the Ferris wheel. “The woman that was with you at the peer where we first met, she’s from his firehouse, isn’t she?”
He couldn’t remember the station number at the moment, but he did remember that it had been a different one from the ones Bobby and Diaz had. Bobby nodded. “Lena Bosko, a firefighter of station 136.” His lips lifted a bit in slight amusement. “A stubborn but very capable firefighter.”
The shorter man’s eyebrow lifted in question. “I could tell she was pretty capable from the little I saw her work, but why stubborn?”
“She had two broken ribs, and still wanted to keep on going.”
Tony was quiet for a moment, continuing to enjoy the coffee. “Yeah, I know about continuing on with broken ribs... it’s not an experience I hope to repeat.”
There was what he could be shock, or maybe horror, on his face and he opened his mouth to say something. However, before Bobby could respond, they heard the door open and then footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Bobby?” Tony heard a woman’s voice. “What’s this about Tony Stark sleeping in Harry’s bed?” He heard the amusement in her voice, but then saw that same amusement fade from her face as she came around the corner and caught sight of Tony, who gave her a cheeky little wave with his fingers.
“Good morning,” he said cheerfully. “Sadly, that is true. I’m the terrible person that took poor Harry’s bed.” He took another sip of the coffee, resisting the urge to moan, since it wouldn’t be proper. It was just that he loved good coffee. “You already know who I am, but I don’t know your name.”
“Ah... Athena Grant,” she said, and saw as she and Bobby shared a look. “Well, Nash now.” Tony sensed there was a story there, but knew it wasn’t one he was entitled to, so he didn’t ask.
“Well, I am very charmed to meet you, Mrs. Nash,” he said.
“Please, call me Athena.”
“If you call me Tony.”
Bobby looked between them. “Should I be worried? I remember Buck saying you flirt with anyone.”
Tony nodded with a bit of a smile curving his lips. “Well, Evan is right,” he supplied easily. “I see attractive people and I just... flirt.” He looked like he wanted to shrug, aborted the movement half way and cleared his throat. “I can admit it’s gotten me into a fair share of... altercations.”
“How is their 80-year-old grandmother attractive to you?”
Tony snorted a laugh, having forgotten that Evan had brought it up... or had that been Maddie? He was a bit fussy about what had happened after he arrived at the field hospital and assured himself of Evan’s safety. “Their grandmother was a nurse during World War 2 and knew my dad. He was like eighteen at the time, and it was nice to hear about him being that young.” He refrained from saying that he wanted to hear about a time when he wasn’t such a cold human being. The stern, unforgiving man he’d grown up with.
His head titled as he looked at the woman. “You’re a police sergeant, right?” he asked the dark skinned woman. The short hair style she had suited her face very well.
The woman eyed him carefully, her stance changing to wariness. “Has my husband been talking about me?” she asked him instead of likely demanding how he knew that.
Tony shook his head negatively. “Uh no, Evan told me, actually. He mentioned you during the incident where Maddie was... kidnapped by that abusive asshole. He actually called me just before he went off in search of her with you and kept me updated through text messages.”
“So that’s who that boy kept texting during that time. I’d always assumed it was Eddie,” she chuckled.
Tony gave that aborted shrug with his shoulders as he lifted his cup to his mouth. “Well, he could have been texting us both,” he suggested, not voicing how much that thought bothered him. Tony didn’t have the right to be bothered, since what he and Evan had at one point was over. Besides, at the time of this, he’d been dating Pepper, so he had no right to feel... well, whatever he was feeling, it certainly wasn’t jealousy.

Be Alright
After Buck inhaled some possible toxic fumes Buck and Eddie were waiting for his test results.
“Look if something happens to me.” Buck said.
“Nothing is happening except those test results coming back negative. You’re gonna be alright.” Eddie said fighting back tears.
Buck grabbed his hand.
“Please just listen. Eddie I love you, and I’ve been too scared to tell you. I’m sorry for doing it like this but I can’t die with out you knowing the truth.” Buck cried.
Eddie shook his head as his eyes were full of tears.
“You have to be ok. You can’t say something like that and not be ok.” Eddie whispered.
Buck put his hand on Eddies cheek to wipe away the tears.
“I promise you’ll be ok no matter what. You have your family.” Buck said.
“I might be ok but I need you Buck. My family isn’t complete with out you.” Eddie said softly.
“Can I have just one kiss. In case this is my last chance.” Buck begged.
“No it’s not it’s not your last chance. This will be the first kiss of many.” Eddie said trying to reassure him self.
This kiss was very short because neither one could stop crying. Tears were streaming down their cheeks as they pulled each other closer for a hug.
“Mr. Buckley.” The Doctor said walking over with a file.
Buck and Eddie stood up hand in hand.
“So what is it?” Buck asked.
“All tests came back negative.” The Doctor smiled.
“I’m ok.” Buck said in shock.
The Doctor talked a little more with Buck before leaving.
Eddie was silent he hadn’t said a word.
“You were right. I’m fine.” Buck cried.
“Never scare me like that again.” Eddie whispered as he pulled Buck into a tight hug.
“Thank you for being here for me today. It was so hard, but having you by my side made it a lot easier” Buck said.
“That was so hard, but I’ll always be by your side. I’m sorry I couldn’t stay strong for you.” Eddie grabbed Bucks hand and kissed it. “I don’t know if I said it earlier, but I love you too.”
