It's probably been 6 years since I've watched Shadowhunters and I'd actually sort of forgotten about it until recently. I was reminded of it and rewatched, and I'm still obsessing. The show in general isn't perfect, Jace/clary is a constant annoyance (to me at least), lol, and the parabatai thing can be a bit much, and I think they could've done more with certain storylines... but... it also makes me want to shout from the rooftops, "hey tv script writers, wanna see how to write a loving relationship? Watch this show."

Magnus and Alec have obstacles to overcome, there's miscommunication, they get mad at each other and argue and maybe stay away from each other for an episode or even break up for a minute mostly due to outside influences, not because they don't care about each other. But then they talk and work things out. They support and sacrifice and tell each other that they are loved and valued ALL THE TIME. There's enough stuff happening parallel to their relationship that things never get boring, I'm never tired of seeing them hang out together. They are relationship goals.

I wish more shows would let happy couples be happy and stop tearing them apart in crappy ways, like infidelity or in some cases, just because they can. If only there'd been a malec spin-off, i could watch that all day long.

the last hours was actually so tragic. like maybe it’s the edwardian london thing that makes it seem more tragic to me but damn all that miscommunication made them all so LONELY and isolated when they didn’t have to be. in tid even when will thought he was cursed he had jem, and even when he was being awful to tessa she still had other people in her life like jem and sophie. jem and tessa had no family, but they had people they talked to and shared their fears with. in the dark artifices, they’re this really strong family unit, the tragedy is horrible but there’s a network around them all (blackthorns + emma + kit) so no one’s really alone.

but in the last hours like….these kids HAVE parents and friend groups and supposed best friends even, yet they seem more isolated than any other series mains. james doesn’t tell anyone about the gracelet and what he went through (fair enough bec it was terrible and traumatising). but then it’s not just that. cordelia isn’t telling anyone what she’s going through. lucie isn’t telling anyone what she’s going through (trying to bring someone back to life???) – and they’re supposedly best friends and future parabatai! and matthew isn’t telling anyone what he’s going through, not his parabatai either, and no one wants to address how visibly he’s suffering. and grace, she’s actually alone. and it just seems so lonely and sad and they all seem so isolated even though they shouldn’t be, because unlike the tid and tda mains, the tlh lot actually have parents and their own homes (for the most part). the start of chain of thorns especially is just really painful because they’re all suffering ALONE when they all have people around them they just don’t bridge the gap. it just feels so lonely which is almost ironic bec what about the friendship of the merry thieves and the parabatai bonds and best friendship?

I’m always up for malec prompts babygirl. Especially drunk Alec is a babe. I haven’t written canon malec in a while so here’s them being dorks as always.

“You don't have to worry,” The voice yells through the loud pub as Magnus steps through the portal.

His eyes glances through the crowd to find his idiots but it doesn’t take him long, takes him barely a single second because said idiots are on the stage, yelling on the karaoke.

Magnus cuts through the crowd to reach at the centre when he hears his name called.

“Magnus!!” He turns to see Jace waving towards him excitedly, Isabelle standing next to him, jumping and shouting at the stage.

He reaches the two of them and asks, “On a scale of 0 to what happened on 15th May; how drunk are these three?”

Jace chortles, smacking at his shoulder and Magnus punches him back.

He’s not drunk enough to take up with Jace’s incessant habit of treating him like a ‘bro’ when he’s drunk.

“Clary is a solid 15. Simon already puked seven times. And Alec, Raziel, Alec is worse than Izzy on 15th May.”

Magnus turns towards the stage, where the three idiots, with his main idiot in between stand, yelling and singing loudly.

Alec‘s unbuttoned his top two buttons, his hair is a mess—the sexy, hot kind, and he has an arm loosely around Clary, who looks as drunk as him. Simon is also there, with his hot nerd face that’s getting hotter ever since he got engaged with Izzy but Magnus for the life of him cannot care—even if he tries to look at anything but his Alec.

There’s just something about him right now, the carelessness that he’s been missing for a while, since he’s become to Consul and their world has gone to shit.

Right now, the man looks like he doesn’t have a care in this world and while Magnus loves Alec in his serious consul mode, this, this is how he wants his Alec to always look like.

With his cheeks flushed and a million dollar smile on his face.

Like always, the same way it’s been happening for a decade now, Alec feels his presence in the room before he even sees him and he tracks how his husband’s eyes wander across the room, searching for him.

And then they land on him and, somehow, Magnus isn’t sure how, doesn’t think it should be legal but the smile and happiness on Alec’s face increase tenfold. It cracks his chest and threatens to burn him.

“Magnus is here!!!” Alec yells, excitedly.

Clary and Simon look in his direction and wave at him too.

Alec pulls away to get to him but Clary stops him, eyes all fiery as she speaks, “Finish the song first.”

Magnus chuckles at the small pout that Alec makes before his husband launches back into the song, only this time, he’s staring directly into his eyes as he sings.

“Cause, baby, there ain't no mountain high enough.

“Ain't no valley low enough

“Ain't no river wide enough

“To keep me from getting to you, babe,” Alec sings with a stupid smile and Magnus’s face softens at him, his cheeks widening.

The shadowhunter finally escapes Clary’s grasp and jumps off the stage; infront of him and Magnus thinks Alec’s going to kiss him now, with the proximity as he comes closer but the man shouts in his ears, “Cause baby, there ain’t no mountain high enough.”

Magnus laughs loudly, before winding his arms around Alec’s waist who in turn places his arms around Magnus’s neck.

“Hi.”

“Hi, my darling.”

Alec’s hair is all wet and Magnus runs a hand through them, pushing them in place but they fall on his face again. The man is skipping on his feet happily.

“Alec, brother. That was fucking amazing,” Jace wipes fake tears, or wait—Jace wipes actual tears off his face as he pulls his parabatai in a hug.

His husband hugs his parabatai back as tightly as he can and the two have a moment in the middle of the pub for no bloody reason.

He shakes his head in affection at the two idiots, but he’s glad Alec has that, he’s always admired the relationship the two shared.

Alec Lightwood will always love Jace Herondale more than his own life.

“Why are you two morons hugging like you were separated in a war,” Magnus comments because he can. Alec turns towards him and jumps in his arms again.

“Hi.”

Magnus chuckles. “Hi again.”

Alec lays his head on Magnus’s shoulder, nuzzling in a way very familiar to Chairman Meow.

“Magnus.”

“Hmmm.”

“I have to tell you…tell you something.”

Magnus runs his fingers through Alec’s hair. “What is it?”

Alec pulls back, and peers at him. “I’m very drunk.”

A breathless peal of laughter leaves his body and he kisses Alec’s forehead. “Oh, honey. I know.”

He grabs Alec’s face in his face, his gorgeous gorgeous face, free of any troubles and caresses his cheeks. “You look very happy, my love.”

Alec beams at the words.

“I am happy.”

“I like you when you’re this happy,” he whispers against his mouth and thumbs over his eyebrows, over the frown lines that are usually there.

“I like you all the time.”

Magnus rolls his eyes.

Asshole.

“Don’t try to one-up me while I’m being sappy, Alexander.”

Alec giggles and Magnus wonders why and how on earth has he not kissed Alec yet. So, he leans in to kiss his husband. He brings their mouths together slowly, exploring like he can’t create an exact replica of Alec’s mouth if he wanted to.

“Oh fuck!” Alec explains suddenly, pulling back.

“What?” He whines.

“We forgot Max and Rafe.”

“We did not forget. More important, you did not forget,” Magnus assures him. “They’re with Cat.”

“Oh,” Alec says, then beams. “Okay.”

“What do you want to do tonight?” He asks.

Magnus wishes he can give Alec more nights like this—more nights when he can just ask Alec what he wants and Alec has the freedom to say yes. When the burden of saving an entire race isn’t on his broad, and sexy shoulders.

“Marry you.”

He snorts.

“What?” Alec pouts. “Will you marry me?”

“No.”

Alec puts a hand on his chest. “Wow.”

“You’re an idiot.”

“Is that why you won’t marry me? Because I’m an idiot.”

“Yes.”

Alec pauses for a second, thoughtfully.

“If I say ‘I’ll try not to be an idiot’ in my vows, will you marry me then?”

“Nope,” he grins.

“Pretty please?” Alec flutters his lashes and Magnus feels his heart in his mouth.

He recalls a time when Alec was shy, when every single smile was rare, when the shadowhunter boy with the sure and steady heart didn’t understand the effect he had on Magnus. When he was careful in every step he took.

When he didn’t know how much Magnus’s ass was obsessed with him.

It’s not the case now.

Now Alec knows.

Alec knows how every breath he takes, every action, every gesture, how it makes Magnus fall in love with him even more. He knows how to capitalise on that now.

“Please, baby.”

“Have you forgotten that we’re already married?”

Alec rolls his eyes, the first of his night surprisingly. “Of course I remember.”

“And?”

“And what?”

“You want to do it again?”

“Yep.”

“You’re a dork.”

“Is that a yes?”

“No.”

I would love to see more scheming Alec. Maybe he sees magnus come to the institute to update the wards as a kid and he knew that this is his One Love (which is rare for nephilim hence political marriages). so Alec plots to meet Magnus and/or convince magnus to keep him

“Are you alright?” Jace asks and Alec nods, ignoring Jace in a way he rarely does before shooing him along.

“I’m fine, just paperwork.” Alec says and he gives the grimace he always tries to hide when Maryse is giving him extra work. Jace relaxes at the normal byplay and Alec watches him leave carefully and then he turns, breathless.

Alec knew that his parents wanted them out of the Institute because the High Warlock of Brooklyn was coming over, but while he was fine if not a little annoyed at their instructions before, he’s now livid.

Alec could have missed seeing and realizing the most perfect being in the universe already existed.

Magnus Bane is everything Alec’s never let himself desire or dream of and standing there, standing up to Alec’s mom, he’s the only person Alec can ever imagine wanting.

Maryse is biting out vitriol and Magnus Bane is matching her barb for barb, a dark, pointed smirk on his face as he lays Alec’s mother bare to the world with only his words.

Unlike Maryse, his tone remains even and cool and even when he raises it, it never becomes the yell that Robert's voice does.

Alec carefully remembers his words and where he wounds Maryse, and he holds his breathe and leaves. He refuses to let Magnus meet him like this. Alec is fifteen, he’s practically a child compared to a High Warlock and he has nothing impressive to his name.

It’s with renewed passion that Alec returns to his studies and the next time Izzy and Jace try to goad him into letting them get away with anything, he thinks of brown eyes that flash gold and shakes his head.

It’s not difficult to manipulate Robert, now that Alec knows what to look for. It’s almost worse, realizing that Robert is expecting Alec to help him hide his affair, not that Alec is going to blackmail him.

“I don’t want the Lightwood name.” Alec says again, for the third time since he’s sat down with Robert. “I’ll be the Trueblood heir, but I won’t be the Lightwood heir.” Alec smirks, “you can have Jace or Izzy be your heir, you don’t need me.”

The Lightwood name is more heavily tarnished than Alec realized at first and while Alec won’t hide who his parents are, he’ll change his last name if it means ensuring Magnus at least looks twice at him.

The separation is quiet and Maryse is contemplative in the months that follow but Alec doesn’t worry about it, too focused on forging connections with other young and political nephilim. He’s back and forth between New York and Idris a ridiculous amount, but it’s worth it. 

Alec is known and knows all the heirs of the next families and the Institutes. Perhaps he doesn’t have friends, but he doesn’t need those just yet, not when he might have to get rid of them if they interfered.

Alec is impatient and he knows he is. He only saw Magnus back then for a few minutes but Alec knows his heart and it’s may not love at first sight, but Magnus is the only one Alec’s heart will ever beat for.

Alec uses that impatience to build his reputation and his skills and as a reason to gently let Jace down when his brother hopes to become parabatai.  Alec won’t take any chances with Magnus not being interested.

Alec gets tall and he gets strong and he focuses on knowing as much as he can because whatever Magnus needs or wants, Alec is going to ensure he achieves it.

There is not room for failure on his list and it’s not an accident that during Alec’s evaluation, Camille Belcourt is caught breaking the accords. The new leader is Raphael Santiago and Alec introduces himself casually, with a politeness that he doesn’t even give the clave. It’s easy enough when Alec remembers that this will be important to Magnus. That Camille is no longer a threat and that someday, Alec can offer her eternally preserved heart that rests in a chest in Alec’s room.  A present for whenever he finally sees Magnus again.

I would love to hear about ‘Alec saves Raziel and gets a powers boost’! :)

Oh, that one is a fun one! So, while I've titled it "Alec saves Raziel" I'm still halfway debating making it be Ithuriel like it was in the series, depending on how the angel got caught. (And I am actually going to find a way to do this because I'm not sure we even got one in the series and what do you mean Valentine caught an angel just like that and we get no information???)

Anyway, after a fight with Jace over how he and Clary have caused another mess, Alec goes out for a walk. He doesn't pay attention and gets caught by the Circle - something he beats himself up for because how could he have been so stupid - and that's where he doesn't only find out about the captive downworlders, but also about Raziel or Ithuriel.

Alec King of being Underestimated Lightwood, manages to get himself, the downworlders, and Raziel/Ithuriel free. As a thank you he gets a power boost from Raziel/Ithuriel and, depending on who the angel is, the other Nephilim might or might not also receive a considerate power decrease!

Snippet:

"What do you want with me?" Alec grits, biting down the grunt of pain when the shadowhunter to his left punches his bruised rib again for speaking out of turn. "With you?" Valentine asks - still smiling, always smiling, despite Alec's earlier insults. "Nothing. You're just the bait." His eyes dart to the parabatai run on Alec's hip, the condensing smile sharpening into a smirk and Alec's blood runs cold. He has to get out of here. It doesn't matter how broken or torn up he'll end up by the time Valentine's hangers-on are through with him, Alec has to get out of here. Needs to get out of here. Because he can't - Valentine can't - get his hands on Jace. "You stay away from him," Alec hisses, straining against the shackles around his wrist. It earns him another punch from one of the shadowhunters and a laugh from Valentine, but Alec doesn't care. He doesn't care whether they all decide to laugh at him. They won't be laughing for long.

My TWP Predictions

I've seen that people started with predictions to what they think or want to happen in The Wicked Powers. So, here are my predictions:

The main character is either Dru or Kit. Dru because she is the most important living female character of the main squad and Kit, because most parts of the series are probably his story. Also he was second after Emma in TDA.

Kit, Dru and Ty have most of the book in their POV, additionally there will be some chapters from Ash and a few in Livvy's POV. The rest of the characters don't get their own POVs .

Kit and Ty will obviously make up (and out) and end up dating and staying together forever.

Mina or one of the Lightwood-Bane kids will be kidnapped and threatened to be killed, but won't die

Thule-Livvy comes to Our World and meets Cameron here. They get a second chance for their relationship, even though their respective versions of the other world are dead. I also think that Cameron would follow Thule-Livvy back to Thule to save it from demons.

Janus will either die, end up with the Seelie Queen, or go back to Thule to undo his and Sebastians mistakes and save the world on Clary's wish.

Thule Kit will either die, go evil and/or become King of Faerie. But somehow I think he dies because he gets attacked by faeries.

Thule Rosemary never gets attacked deadly, finds her son again, tries and fails to protect him at a dangerous attack by faeries and accidently goes to Our World and protects/saves Kit here.

The TWP-squad mainly consists of Dru, Jaime, Ghost-Livvy and/or Thule-Livvy, Kit and Ty. Ash joins them later and Anush also gets to be pretty important, but has no part written in his point of view.

Dru, Jaime and Ash will go to Thule for some reason. Kit, Ty, Livvy and Anush stay in Our World and go to Faerie.

We get to see Auraline. Either in a flashback or because she's actually alive, but nobody knew. In that case she will also protect Kit and maybe end up as Queen of Faerie.

Kieran might give up his throne to the brother who's dating (?) the Seelie Queen in tge end of TDA.

Kit has wings and can make other people fly with his powers. I want to see him and Ty dance across the night sky.

Love triangle between Dru, Jaime and Ash, but they actually communicate and Dru ends up with Ash.

In the end Ash lives with either Dru at Blackthorn Hall or either the Herondale-Carstairs family.

Dru and Ty move to Blackthorn Hall, like Jules planned them to, also to be closer to Kit (and Ash).

Kit and Ash become parabatai. Maybe to secure eachother's survival. They are scared the other will kill them, but parabatai's can't kill eachother. So problem solved.

If a Lightwood dies, it's hopefully Maryse.

Kit fake-dies. Ty also fake-dies at the showdown battle and Kit heals him with his power.

All characters comeback at the showdown. Also Herongraystairs reunion and sibling-bonding of their children.

These are the things I definitely do not want to happen, but might be a bit likely to go down this way:

Jace dying. Because he's a Lightwood, too and has someone who wants to and can step up in his place if he dies: Janus. He's also in more or less immediate danger, because Janus wants to kill him. Also Clary thought that she would die in TDA, so maybe Jace steps up to die instead of her (like Jason did for Piper in TOA, Rick is a friend of Cassie's, too, btw). But I hope it's not him who dies.

Ideas I had, that are probably way too wild for it to actually happen:

KitTy wedding in faerie as a way of staying together forever, because others want to separate them.

Rosechild / Rosestar moments: I mean Ash flirting with Jaime and Jaime totally questioning his sexuality. Maybe even some more romantic moments

Ash taking the Fairchild name instead in honour of his aunt and grandma.

Kit taking the Blackthorn name because he feels more connected to them than to the Herondales. Jace almost disowning him afterwards.

Kit bonding and cuddling with a duck. Jace definitely disowning him now.

Ash being the one who warns Clary and Jace about Janus

I probably have even more ideas, which I will add when I remember them.

okay but imagine if shadowhunters had had filler episodes. just them doing dumb nonsense that didn't have any effect on the plot. bonding.

clary learns about the nephilim education system and she doesn't know whether to be horrified or amazed cause on the one hand they're giving knives to four year olds, on the other hand, izzy is a fully certified forensic pathologist at 19.

simon spends an entire episode dragging raphael around new york tryna find him a replacement jacket because even though the kidnapping situation was very fucked up he feels really bad!!! the episode ends with them picking out a really amazing jacket and then raphael having to pay for it because with all the supernatural crap happening, simon honestly forgot that he's a broke college student.

jace and alec episode with them on their day off just chilling (izzy and clary following them because clary Does Not Understand Parabatai and izzy thinks this will help. somehow.) they go to the library and spend some time curled up together reading. they get coffee and go to the park. jace screams at some ducks while alec provides moral support. they go for a movie. they walk around the city holding hands. they go back to the institute to spar a little and then head off to bed. clary through the episode keeps asking "are they dating? are they not? seems like they are?" but izzy keeps denying the dating allegations. clary then finds someone in the institute that can actually explain parabatai with actual words and she barges into izzy's room in the middle of the night screaming "YOU COULD HAVE JUST TOLD ME THEY'RE SOULMATES ISABELLE!"

there's an episode that is literally just. magnus' cats. nothing else. magnus provides narration like this is a nature documentary.

malec's second date, where they just sit on the couch and watch tv and trashtalk the characters. the entire episode is edited to look exactly like a youtuber-reviewing-a-tv-show thing. the first time time an action scene comes up, alec gets so mad at how unrealistic it is and magnus gives him a detailed explanation of how and why movie fighting is so different from real life fighting and why they're choreographed that way. the episode is an hour and a half because magnus and alec keep getting sidetracked and start talking about random stuff. it ends with them falling asleep together on the couch.

a magnus & catarina & ragnor episode with them just hanging out. cat and ragnor keep making fun of magnus for being so in love but he keeps agreeing with them with a lovestruck expression and that takes the fun out of it. the episode is a clipshow style thing except it's not clips of stuff we've already seen, it's their adventures (including, obviously, peru.)

a jimon episode where simon sits jace down and explains in detail the entire plot of star wars. all the star wars. jace asks so many questions and they get so sidetracked at times but simon powers through. at the end, jace reveals that he actually has watched star wars and he knew everything simon was saying but let him go on and on for hours because he wanted to see whether simon would figure it out and also cause jace likes spending time with him.

a clizzy episode where izzy jokingly asks clary to paint her and clary gets so excited!!!! so izzy goes along with it. clary keeps talking like she's doing a tutorial on painting except izzy can't see what she's doing. through the episode, izzy keeps doing more and more ridiculous poses and clary paints and sketches them and somehow they turn out actually good?

i have more ideas but like. idk about you guys but i'd have watched the hell out of this stuff.

Summary: Being jealous of Clary and Jace finds it hot, and finds ways to make you jealous so you break up with him and eventually start dating Raphael Santiago

Part 1 of the series: The Vampire and the Hunter

Everyone knew that being Jace Wayland's girlfriend was hard. Y/N knew better than them though, she never got jealous of everyone that flirted with him because she trusted him and knew that he was hers. She truly believed they were it for each other. Until Clary Fairchild entered.

Now, Jace spends all his time with Clary making Alec and Y/N both upset and jealous. "I just don't see why he has to be with her all the time. We haven't had time alone in days! And he hasn't even noticed I sleep in your room!" Y/N cries to Alec who's heart is breaking for her. Y/N  was the only one who knew about Alec's sexuality and his complex feelings for Jace, and she understood, she sympathized with him, she was the only person who saw behind Alec's walls. And now here they were, both  upset, eating ice cream and venting to each other. "I know! He's been more reckless than before and has  done everything for her and only her!" Alec says as he grabs another spoonful of ice cream. "I don't even want to go back to our room" she sighs and lays down on Alec's bed,  he lays next to her, they cuddle. It's completely normal because Y/N was very cuddly with family, especially when she was upset. Alec quickly texted Magnus and asked if they could rein check their date, again. The next morning, Y/N woke up and realized that Jace didn't even notice she wasn't in their room. She walked over to their room to get clothes and shower, there was Jace, sleeping peacefully. She just sighed and walked to the showers.

It's been hours and Y/N was walking next to Izzy. "I know you don't like her but maybe give her a chance?" Izzy tries to play the mediator. Y/N rolls her eyes and they walk past the gym, there she sees Clary flirting with Jace while they train, "hey babe!" Y/N yells over at him, to remind Clary he's taken. "Hi princess" he says and walks over and gives her a kiss on the head, sighing contently, she notices the way Jace is looking between both girls. "I have to finish training with Clary but want to get dinner later?" He asks with a smirk. He's never seen his girlfriend get jealous and as much as he loved how secure they felt in the relationship, it was nice to see her checking out the competition. Not that Clary was actual competition, Y/N was it for Jace, but she never showed signs of jealousy and he liked that she did, maybe she'd get possessive and they'd get kinky, it's been a while, they hadn't had sex since Clary's arrival, Jace hadn't pieced together that it was in fact his fault. Y/N nodded, smiling her usual warm smile instead of the fake one she always had in front of Clary, Jace was starting to realize that they didn't get along because of his girlfriend's jealousy and Clary's need to flirt with Jace. He let her flirt but he didn't flirt back unless Y/N was there, only so he could see her jealous. Training had gone on for longer than he anticipated, Clary was not cut out to be a shadowhunter, that was obvious. He'd had texted his girlfriend while she was out on a mission and told her to be ready for their date at 7pm and he'd pick her up at the common room after his training and shower. It was now 8:45pm and Clary kept telling him she needed more help. Jace with his stupid god complex wanted to end the session with her being much better than when she started, so he didn't check his phone and just kept sparring with her. He hadn't noticed the many texts and calls from his girlfriend, his parabatai, or his sister. At some point, he has Clary pinned down and telling her what needed improvement when all of a sudden Alec walks in, he looks angry at Jace, Jace simply gets up and starts to go over to Alec, assuming they just got back from the mission. Alec puts his hand up, Jace can feel something's wrong through their bond, Alec pulls out his phone and calls someone, "Found him Iz" "Is he with her", Izzy whispers, not wanting to upset Y/N who had after 8pm walked to their room after waiting in the common room for an hour. "Yeah he's with Clary. Just take Y/N to her favorite mundane restaurant, I'll go to their room and grab some of her pajamas so she can sleep tonight with me again and won't have to see him until tomorrow" he hears her comply and they hang up. "What? Our date isn't until 7" Jace asks confused, suddenly Clary is next to him, her arm wrapped around his and she's giggling. "It's almost 9" Alec sighs and walks away. Jace couldn't believe he let Clary distract him and miss his date with his girl. He decides to just walk back to his room and sleep, he'll fix everything tomorrow.

The next day, Jace goes to Y/N's favorite mundane coffee shop, Mila's, and buys her some coffee and a bouquet of flowers. He gets back to the institute and realizes it's still early and Y/N is probably still asleep. He begins to walk over to Alec's room when suddenly Clary's in front of him and taking the cup of coffee. "Thanks for the coffee, just what I needed" she says and takes a sip. Sighing, he realizes he let this go to far, "Clary listen, I don't like you like that. I took you in because you're a shadowhunter but that's it. I have a girlfriend I really love and hope to marry soon. I only let you flirt and flirted back because before you, she was never jealous or possessive. She gets jealous in front of you and I just wanted to mess with her because I liked seeing her jealous. But I'm starting to see it's getting to extreme, you made me miss our date, which now that I'm putting the pieces together, yesterday was actually our 3 year anniversary. So you can keep HER coffee but I'm done giving you attention. I'll tell Alec that you need a new training partner" he finishes and before she can reply he keeps walking. Knocking on Alec's door, Jace gets nervous. Y/N opens the door, Alec had left early in the morning and she was just laying on his bed watching a mundane tv show. She lets Jace in, "Baby I'm sorry! I didn't realize this would get out of hand. I didn't mean to miss our anniversary, let me make it up to you" Jace begins. "You let her flirt with you and you flirted back. Before her, anytime someone flirted, you never flirted back. Do you like her or something" Y/N begins to let her insecurities get the best of her. "No baby! I just had never seen you get jealous and I thought it was cute!" "Wait! You purposely tried to make me jealous? You let her flirt and you flirted back because you wanted to see me get jealous? You purposely inflicted emotional pain onto me? Are you mad at me for something" Y/N begins to get angry. Jace realizes his mistake, Y/N never got jealous because she trusted him, she never got jealous because she knew she owned his heart, and this had just crushed her. Him letting Clary flirt and him flirting back wasn't just a little game, it meant Y/N clearly began to get insecure in her role as his girlfriend. "Baby-" Jace begins and goes to hold her hand but she just pushed his hand away and walked out into the hallway. She walked to their room and began to pull her stuff out of their closet and drawers, "I'll make sure all my stuff is out of here by the afternoon, so you can move your little fling in. How many nights did you bring her to the room? Because I don't know if you noticed but I haven't slept in this room since you brought her," Y/N says and realizes she's breaking up with Jace. Her hands begin to tremble so she stops putting her clothes in bags and sits on the bed, trying to catch some air as she begins to panic. "Baby, I didn't do anything with her I promise, I just figured you wanted to spend more time with Izzy and Alec but every night I slept on our bed alone, I wanted to just go get you and bring you back, you're my love" Jace says and tries to sit next to her on the bed, as soon as he sits she jumps back up and although her hands are still shaking she grabs one of the bags but it slips out of her hand, "Fuck". Jace tries to hold her, "Don't" she barks out, finally looking him in the eyes, "We're over Jace, go fuck your little bitch because I'm done" she immediately walks out of the room and shuts the door on his face. As she begins to walk to Alec's room, she bumps into Callie, one of the older shadowhunters, who doesn't go in the field anymore but focuses on keeping the institute clean and occasionally helps in the kitchen. "Y/N you ok" she asks holding the girl in front of her, who won't stop shaking. "I need Alec" is all she manages to get out between her few gasps of air, Callie immediately grabs Y/N's hand and begins to pull her straight to Alec's office, Underhill is at the door, "he's in a meeting" he begins to explain but once he sees the condition Y/N is in, knocks on the door, "boss it's an emergency" he tries to explain, afraid if they don't get Y/N to one of the few people that can help her through the attacks, she will faint. "I just texted Isabelle and Jace to come and see if they can maybe help" Callie explains as she still holds onto Y/N. Upon hearing her ex's name, she begins to shake even more and can barely stand, Underhill just knocks harder.

The door finally opens. Alec is standing, slightly mad he was interrupted, you could see Magnus sitting on Alec's office chair, buttoning his shirt back up. Once he sees the condition his friend is in, Alec's demeanor changes and he grabs her and hugs her, she hugs back and just lets her body go limp against him. Alec quickly puts his arms under her knees and carries her into his office, "please leave us" he tells Underhill and Callie as he sets Y/N on the couch, Magnus begins to leave but Alec looks at him, pleading him to stay. Thanks to Y/N, Alec had been able to build something with Magnus. She had convinced Maryse to hold on in the marriage that was going to happen between Alec and Lydia and had said it would be best to wait until the whole Valentine's daughter situation was fixed, therefore letting Magnus and Alec explore their relationship, having time to figure out how to tell Maryse once the war is over.

"He was purposely trying to make me jealous," she tells Alec, once she's calmed down. Magnus is sitting by her side, "I'm sorry" he says, genuinely upset as this is one of the few shadowhunters who treats him with respect, Y/N simply shakes her head and keeps crying. Suddenly there's a knock at the door, Alec slightly opens it and notices both Jace and Izzy, he also notices Clary is somewhere in the background trying to not laugh. He goes up to Jace, slamming him against the wall, "ALEC" Izzy yells and tries to separate her brothers, "What the fuck is wrong with you Jace. You really throwing away your relationship for Valentine's daughter" Alec growls at Jace who actually looks afraid of his parabatai. Izzy gasps as she finally notices Y/N exiting the office with Magnus behind her, murder also in his eyes. "Let him go Alec please, he can date whoever he wants now" Y/N states exhausted from all the crying, Izzy then whips around to look at Clary who comes out of the shadows, smiling. Alec lets Jace go and pushes him towards Clary, "you're being benched, I only want you on cleaning weapons duty until I finish rearranging patrol groups so you're not with Y/N/N anymore" he says and begins to walk back into his office with Y/N and Magnus. Izzy just continues to look at Jace who looks absolutely broken and when Clary tries to grab his arm he pulls it back harshly and glares at her before walking away. "You just ensured a smart way to make the entire institute hate you, women may flirt with him but at the end of the day every single person here loves Y/N" Izzy told Clary as she looked shocked, Izzy had never been rude to her before. Izzy then begins to walk away to train and find a way to convince Y/N to go out with her.

Defender mode activated since Lucie's haters' powers are growing🤺I also noticed you like my analysing posts, so let's get into it! Btw you can check my Matthew/Daisy post, I'm very proud of it☺️💅🏻If you don't wanna change your opinion - there's nothing I can do, it's your choice. But if you just interpreted some things/ character's motivation in a wrong way or you don't understand why this character is the way she is - I'll help you understand!😌✨

So! Today we'll defend my daughter and discuss some statements, that are quite popular here and on Twitter, which include her!🕵️

1) "I can't see her and Daisy being great parabatai, they don't even care about each other that much. And it seems like Lucie needs her more than Daisy needs Lucie."

Before I start my research I must admit that they didn't spend too much time together so it'd make sense if they become parabatai a bit later, so they have time to reveal all their secrets and discuss all they went through. And I believe that what's going to happen since CC announced the short story of their parabatai ceremony and it seems like it'll happen a bit after the end of CHOT😌

Don't you dare! Not after:

"Cordelia cares less than—" HELLO? Cordelia's absolutely terrified to lose her. Terrified. Same with Lulu. Btw @lekawi is the first Daisy/Lucie fan and half of these arguments are hers!!!! Giving credits 💅🏻🙇🏼‍♀️

Lucie's always there for Daisy, every time Daisy needs her, she's there. Except those times when she keeps a secret that she's hurt. But this trilogy is all about how secrets ruin your life😒

They keep secrets from each other and that's what makes it hard for them to become closer. Secrets are the biggest evil of these books but they still have time to fight them! These two loved each other almost their whole lives.

And about Lucie's Beautiful Cordelia which some people consider "unhealthy obsession"🤨 If you read the same books as I, you know that Lucie's writing that book not because "she's too obsessed", but because Cordelia's biggest fear is being alone. She didn't have any friends and even trained alone most of the time. This book gave Daisy that feeling like you're sitting next to your friend and listening to all these funny stories.

2) "She's just so naive and acts so immature, it's annoying. She's like a loud baby"

She's like the first (maybe the 2) person who openly talks with Matthew about his alcoholism, while all his friends prefer to ignore it, which is much easier. She did it kinda dirty, she wasn't too careful with her words, but she said the truth.

She didn't try to lie or hide her true feelings after Jesse found her book. She said what she really felt that moment. Lucie🤝Thomas being those 2 people who actually know how healthy relationship works like

She was ready to kill Jesse when she found out he's being controlled by Belial. She was wise and strong enough to understand that people's lives are more important than her young love.

She was the first person who saw that Matthew actually likes Cordelia👀

She's actually the only person who acknowledged the fact that her parents and friends don't see that Matthew is far from being okay because they don't actually wanna see it.

The only "immature" thing about her is that she doesn't know what goes after the kisses. But if that's your only criteria.... What's actually wrong with you? And what do you have against loud people?😑

3) "She lies to everyone, she does necromancy and then screams "Papa😣!" and her parents are already on their way and it seems like she doesn't know what consequences are. Everyone's suffering and she's just chilling"

"Poor Alastair, he had such a shitty father, he deserves to have the best dad in the world, why does he have to go through all this shit all by himself?😓"

And the funniest thing is that it's said by the same people. I— I don't know how to explain it but: if your parents support you, help you with your problems and try to make your life as easy and happy as possible.... it's actually a good thing!👍

And idk where they found this "if the character doesn't suffer enough - it's not an interesting character" rule. But apparently they did. Listen, characters don't have to suffer but they have to go through struggles. Some characters, especially the main ones, usually suffer more. Some less. The main thing is not "who suffers more" it's not a competition, the main thing is the plot, the adventure, the growth of these characters.

Lucie knows, and she says about it at least twice in the second book☝🏻, that necromancy has a price. She knows about the consequences and she knows that raising Jesse has nothing to do with dark magic. That's why she did what she did. But unfortunately, we know that she'll have to pay the price anyway🙂. She'll face the consequences no matter what, there's still the whole book for her to suffer.

She's even warning Malcolm about the price of necromancy in the chapter 2 or 3. It's not like she's considering it a game or a funny adventure. When Magnus/Will/James arrive and she wants to return to London with Jesse and explain everything to Clave - it's not because she's stupid but because as Magnus said "her heart is in the right place". She's mature enough to consider all the facts and try to be open-minded about things she doesn't clearly understand. But lots of people in Clave.... they're dumb and anything that is more complicated than 2+4 is a danger for them.

In conclusion: Lucie's a brave strong girl who lives in a loving healthy family. She knows which things are right and which are wrong. She's not afraid to say what's really on her mind even tho sometimes she says before she thinks. She has a strong sense of justice and a kind soul🌼 (Remember when Malcolm says Grace uses her helplessness so men help her with anything she wants, and Lucie thought that men built such a world where women often have no choice but to ask men for help). She's always there for her friends and is really trying to be "that positive person"🥹She's not really experienced and sometimes she's not sure how to act in certain situations, but she's still so young and has lots of time to learn.

Wednesday prompt: your reblogged Edom gif set gave me an idea: Alec being hounded by his family to move on from Magnus, with him being in Edom, claiming the just want what is best for him to the point where he is going „fine, let me tell you all the lie that I moved on to have some peace for planning“ to pull the biggest power move behind their backs to get himself to his man and ultimately his man and himself back where he belongs.

Alec isn’t sure what he expected.

Support, he thinks.

He’d thought that for the first time, he might actually get support in the moment he needed it the most, from the people who have started showing that they actually love him. That Alec is more than what he can do for his family and their name.

Instead, everyone acts like it should be easy for him to move on. That seeing Magnus ever again is impossible and that he needs to stop thinking about his fiancé.

It’s been months at this point and Alec is growing desperate and when they meet to discuss possibilities, even Cat is giving him sympathetic, pained looks — though she never tries to stop him.

Alec takes a deep breath and reminds himself that if this fails it doesn’t really matter.

Magnus is stuck in Edom — alone — whether or not he tries this and if he dies, well at least Magnus won’t know to mourn him until it’s far too late and he’s hopefully moved on.

The angelic core sings to him in the same way it has ever since Magnus used it to purge the leylines. It calls to him with crooning vibrations that shake the very blood in his veins. If this works, Alec will be sturdy enough to survive Edom, to survive whatever demonic powers will try to subdue him.  It might not be pleasant, but he’ll be able to live there, with Magnus.

Cat stares at Alec in shock before she’s shaking her head and she pulls him quickly inside, throwing up the background wards to ensure Madzie won’t wake and come out.

“You did it then?” She asks, reaching out to touch him with diagnostic magic. The results are unfamiliar but there is nothing specifically wrong and so she lets her magic fade, conserving it for the spell she’ll need to cast.

“It worked.” Alec says and he’s not smiling but he’s not gritting his teeth so whatever discomfort he’s feeling, it’s not enough to slow him down.

“And your family? The Institute?”

“The Institute is going to think I killed myself by throwing myself into the angelic core.” Alec says dryly, voice hoarse and face a little stiff. “It unraveled me, before it changed me, Cat. I came back to myself in our loft, in our bed clutching Magnus’ robe. When they look at the video footage and the heat signatures of the Institute, they’ll assume I’m dead. My family will have no reason to think otherwise.”

He doesn’t say what happened to his parabatai bond, but Cat doesn’t ask aware how sensitive of a subject it is.

“Well… I suppose that’s a pity for them.” Cat is too tired to care about shadowhunters other than Magnus’ partner. Especially when Alec is the only shadowhunter out of the ungrateful lot who actually cares that Magnus sacrificed himself.  Even Alec’s siblings are far too busy celebrating to even let their brother mourn and Cat will never forgive them for the disrespect they’re showing Magnus or Alec by their actions.

Magnus Bane is not someone easily gotten over, and Cat is pleased that Alec is devoted enough to go after Edom, it’s what Magnus deserves.

Magnus has spent months shoring up his power, demolishing his father’s palace and building his own. It’s built from demon bone, and it is a maroon so deep it’s nearly black and it gleams like arterial blood when Edom’s twin suns rise.

Lilith has kept herself hidden since their last skirmish and ever sense Magnus’ found and tamed the krakens of Edom’s deep abyssal lakes, he’s had to worry about her less. It means that he’s completely aware when magic alerts him to a magical intrusion.

It’s gentle in a way that Edom has nearly forced Magnus to forget, and he reaches out curiously, ready to destroy it but wanting to know what it is, even if it is a trick from Lilith.

It only takes a touch for him to recognize it as Cat’s magic.  Magnus stares with an almost detached surprise as he gathers the giant cloud of magic to himself. It’s nearly crystallized with how dense it is and Magnus wonders what Cat thought was so important that she’d not only risk sending it to him but give so much of herself to get to him safely.

His heart doesn’t let him hope and it’s not until the magic cracks away and an unconscious Alexander falls into his arms, that Magnus realizes the gift he’s been given.

There is a note, undoubtedly with instructions and explanations, but all Magnus can do is hold Alexander to him. His darling fiancé, his sweet, earnest boy is here, in Magnus’ arms.

Alexander came to him, he fought for him.

Because Magnus knows something is different and that Cat would only have sent Alec to him if she was sure Alexander could survive Edom.  His boy isn’t a vampire, and he still has his runes. His breath is soft and slow against Magnus’ neck, and it brings a sweet relief to feel it. Magnus will learn how to wake him in a moment but for now, the joy of simply holding Alexander outweighs even the desire to hear his name on Alexander’s lips.

So, Magnus holds his boy close with his arms and his magic and he vows that the next time Lilith comes, Magnus will destroy her properly.

I realize the prompt asked for alec to help get them back but honestly, that boy was 'I must get to magnus. it is a need, not a want' and then he went and did it and he made absolutely no plans beyond 'we'll have our wedding in edom if i have to make lilith be the officiant'

alec: you mean the things that you like that you must be missing and cat and i both refused to give up so she helped me gather as many of your pocket dimensions as we could find and cat created a few extra and then she sealed them to my soul so they wouldn't get torn away from me because we hated the thought of you down here by yourself without any of the comforts you like

magnus hands shaking as he opens a pocket and finds his favorite blend of tea that ragnor and cat never would tell him how to make, along with a copied and sealed recipe in ragnor's handwriting. and plenty of ingredients to make it with. a whole pocket of cat's specially made potions and another of her poisions and cat did stasis charms on specialty food/etc.

like cat and alec planned the fuck out of this. they could only focus on one goal which was getting alec live to magnus and him staying that way. but they were also going to sure as fuck bring/send magnus everything he could possibly need and want.

cat wasn't going to give up on magnus, especially not with a determined, powerful adn recklessly in love shadowhunter racing her for most obsessed to help magnus.

she and madzie had weekly nights where they would go shop all weekend and get 'care packages ready to send with Alec when he goes to live with Magnus' and Madzie drew a lot of pictures and made little magical figurines and she made catarina go to the nightmarket and they got magical fairly lights and lanterns and lamps for alec and magnus and lots of blankets so magnus and alec can have blanket forts together even if they cn't with madzie anymore (her idea).

he also is taking all of magnus' portable libraries they could find and whatever of ragnor's cat's not using on her end (they're trying to find a waay to communicate easier)

Imagine my deep shock when the show went in a totally different direction with this, lol. I was so sure that Jace was going to be a big driver in helping Alec get Magnus back, like nearly as intense about it as he was in getting Clary back. After Magnus and Alec sacrificed for him and with Alec's pain which Jace knew so well having just lost Clary I really thought we were going to see battle parabatai in Edom doing their damnedest because they BOTH were determined to get Magnus back. Super let down that they didn't go that route although obviously there are great aspects to what they picked. I left this bit in even after that aired just as an ode to what I wanted that arc to be.

In answer, the warlock hurriedly handed him a… scimitar? Not his favorite and kind of a random choice but he’d take it.

I was getting into The Old Guard and Joe uses a scimitar so I threw this in for the unexpected blade Alec is given. I also picked Ragnor using Yusuf as the first Joseph iteration when he was sharing his revelation about Jozef's identity for the same reason.

The whole thongs conversation got added after I started posting the story because I felt like we needed another nice Bane scene of him trying after readers were even more upset about his behavior than I had anticipated.

“Shh,” Jozef shushed him gently. “I’m Joseph and Lottie is getting Magnus. That’s what matters, all right? I won’t let anyone hurt you, I promise. Dymphna won’t come back.”

“Alec!”

Magnus’ frantic voice called for him.

Alec blinked slowly.

“Stay awake, Alec.” Jozef urged him. When had he learned Alec’s name? He hadn’t known it before when he had been sending Alec through time. He hadn’t been kind then either.

I wasn't super clear in the story and it confused some readers so I'll say it clearly here - Joseph only uses Alec's name here after Magnus calls it. He doesn't know it before that, he was using it after to try to keep Alec awake. I also initially had Joseph call Alec "child" before I decided that was too much and switched it to boy. I wanted Joseph to be really kind and tender to Alec to highlight the person he used to be. Also, I forever live for the idea that Alec is very obviously not centuries old to actual centuries old beings lol

I added this whole section to further break hearts right before the chapter was posted.

I pre-write all my stories before I start posting and while I'm editing as the story is posting I have added little bits to stories but I have never added so many scenes as I did to Across the Lonely Decades. I was having so much fun with this one and had so many feels and this was one of my favorite experiences with readers, I just wanted to give more and more.

A reader was sad that I didn't include Magnus' POV of Alec getting glamoured for their morning bread date so I wrote them this in a reply comment, in case anyone here has never seen it:

Magnus didn't go into this with plans for how he would change Alec. If he was going to take his 21st century boy out for as many different 19th century experiences as he could, he would likely be magically disguising him enough times that a great deal of fun could be had through the month. Right now, he had plans that needed them out the door quickly so he was just going to play a game of opposites top to bottom.

First, hair. Lengthen it and lighten it. He sent a pulse of magic at Alec and his hair grew rapidly, going from his usual short style into...

Oh.

Oh that was...

Alec leaned into the mirror to inspect his new hair, “What are you doing?”

Every moment of every day Alec was beautiful, Magnus was agonizingly aware of all the ways, but this...

It was like a Greek statue had come to life. Lush and lovely, made for worship. Tousled curls framed Alec's face, somehow highlighting his hazel eyes and making them glow. He looked like a Romantic poet, like he was about to whisper sonnets into Magnus' ear, like they were...

“Magnus?” Alec asked sort of cautiously.

Alec's voice broke the spell abruptly. “Apologies, darling, that hit me harder than I anticipated.”

To Alec’s surprised, Cat gave him a brisk rub of her hands over his arms, “I’m joining Eula and Kaira at the pantomime. Send me a fire message if he keels over but otherwise, have a lovely time and I’ll rejoin you tonight.”

Eula and Kaira are from Hybrid. Kaira more prominently as one of the warlocks who comes to help Magnus get the collar off and Eula is one of the warlocks who were killed to give Alec magic, Valentine calls her a bore when she argues with him.

“Hello, pretty boy.”

I didn't end up getting into their reunion conversation but Martha had been keeping an eye on Magnus for decades waiting for Alec to start appearing at his side. Technically she could have gone to Magnus while they were freaking out trying to find Alec and explaining but that would possibly ruin getting Alec home so she didn't. She was pretty pleased to get the call inviting her over knowing now was the time. Now that she doesn't have to stay away she and Alec become buddies :)

Funny you should ask, because I was just listening to a podcast episode about favorite fandom ships, and I had actually started making my own list that I was going to post anyway! And I don’t mind you asking, since I don't really have people to talk to about this stuff. I like looking at your blog and seeing other people’s answers too!

Here's my top ten! These are going to be kind of repetitive because I’ve already talked about these fandoms so much, but these are my favorite CANON SHIPS, meaning they’re actually together or at least have kissed or something. I have a million non canon ships.

10. Jem, Will, and Tessa from The Infernal Devices- I wanted to keep myself to one ship per fandom, but I couldn’t help it, I just love this OT3 so much. I don’t care what anyone says, they are a poly relationship, not a love triangle (and I maintain that if Jem wasn’t already dying, he and Will would have realized they loved each other romantically, and their parabatai bond would have fucked them over eventually). They all have an equal amount of love and respect for each other, and they balance each other so well. And I appreciate that none of them are relegated to being “the overly jealous partner who ruins everything for the other two.” We get time with each of them and love them all equally.

9. Patroclus and Achilles from The Song of Achilles- Call me a basic bitch, but these two are unparalleled in terms of doomed romances. I love friends to lovers, and the story is so widely spanning that it gives their relationship such gravitas.

8. Yona and Hak from Akatsuki no Yona- Still haven’t finished the manga, but these two are god tier for fantasy romances. I love that they completely lose their minds over each other whenever they are not within arm’s reach, and they’re another great example of childhood friends to lovers. Hak’s “teasing” attitude in the beginning of the series wasn’t my favorite, but it’s funny to look back on it later, knowing that he’s so in love with Yona and would murder the first person to disrespect her. 

7. Shigure and Akito from Fruits Basket- Because why would I choose one of the normal, healthy relationships when I could go for one of the most fucked up romances in shoujo? These two…I don’t even know where to start. They’re the definition of toxic for most of the series, but by the end, you’re really rooting for them to be together with the Sohma family curse broken. Shigure is desperate for the curse to be broken so he can prove to Akito that he loves her without them being tied together by fate. Akito feels like she needs the curse because otherwise everyone will leave her forever. Akito sleeps with Kureno. Shigure sleeps with her mom. They’re “gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss” meets “mansplain, manipulate, man-whore.”

6. Sasaki and Miyano from Sasaki to Miyano- What can I say? They’re just so freaking cute! I think they represent the romance a lot of people in fandom want, because they bond over manga and slowly come to learn more about each other. Sasaki never pressures Miyano to return his feelings, and I appreciate the patience he has in waiting for Miyano to give him an honest answer to his confession.

5. Jesper and Wylan from Six of Crows- Another basic answer, but these two are so entertaining whenever they’re together. I love that Jesper starts out teasing Wylan relentlessly about looking like a pampered rich kid (despite the fact that Wylan also lives on the streets), but Wylan deadass saves the group time and time again, so Jesper comes to respect him more. This is how you do teasing in a relationship: they get under each other’s skin but aren’t complete dicks to each other. And I appreciate that the Shadow and Bone show changes their dynamic slightly while keeping the chaotic duo the same at their core. 

4. Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase from the various Percy Jackson series- The pinnacle of middle grade/YA romance. Nobody else is doing it like these two. What works about their relationship is that we truly believe their friendship as 12 year olds before they start to have feelings for each other. So many times, authors shove two characters together because they feel like they need a romance, but Percy/Annabeth progress so naturally. They tease each other, but they know they’re both capable individuals at the end of the day (and their wildly different brands of intelligence work so well), and as long as they’re together, they can get through anything.

3. Hua Cheng and Xie Lian from Heaven Official's Blessing- I’ve shipped these two for much less time than these other ships, but they have smashed their way to my top 3 ships of all time. How do you compete with a god who’s fallen from grace and his eternally devoted follower who would burn the world down to see them smile? How do you compete with Hua Cheng, who has stayed by Xie Lian’s side for hundreds of years out of pure devotion, but not in a creepy or weird stalkery way? I think the biggest thing this ship has going for it is its sincerity. Hua Cheng doesn’t stay with Xie Lian because he’s hoping Xie Lian will fall for him eventually. He doesn’t believe he’s even worthy of Xie Lian’s love. But he stays anyway, because that’s what unconditional love is like. You stay when the one you love is at their lowest and you can’t do anything to help. You stay when they’re fighting the heavenly emperor and kick ass alongside them. You hold an umbrella over their head when it's raining blood and carry them across the ground when it's littered with corpses.

2. Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunters- These two have destroyed me over the years. I think the best thing about this ship is how they bring out the best in each other and have changed each other’s lives for the better. Magnus is so outgoing and free spirited, but with Alec, he wants to “settle down” (lol) and raise a family. Alec started as the personification of the frowny face emoji, stuck in the closet with a stick up his ass, but now he’s basically running the shadowhunter world. They’re the perfect example of “opposites attract” who have changed their world simply by being in love.

1. Damen and Laurent from Captive Prince- Speaking of couples who change their world simply by being in love…I don’t know if any other ship will top them for me. All the other enemies to lovers ships can get the fuck out. They’re nothing compared to Damen and Laurent. So many times, people will write “enemies to lovers” or “hate to love” relationships that are just two characters snipping at each other or bullying each other for no reason. Get that shit out of here. These two start with the purest, most honest loathing possible. They hurt each other in countless ways, but they come to learn each other slowly. They have every reason to be enemies, but they come through each layer of trauma with love for each other. They’re the kings (pun intended) of this trope.

Honorable mentions: Nick and Charlie from Heartstopper- They’re just so wholesome and sweet. The progression of their relationship from like to love is so realistic, and they’re basically the live action/book version of Sasaki and Miyano.

Ronan and Adam from The Raven Cycle- (haven’t read the last book in the Dreamer trilogy, but I hope nothing bad happens). Their differing brands of chaotic energy compliment each other perfectly, and as a reader, the slow realization that Ronan is in love with Adam was so eye opening and satisfying in a way few other series have been able to capture.

Just for fun, here are some of my “less canon” ships too.

* Inej and Kaz (they're practically canon, but they never explicitly say they're together or in love...but we all know they are)

*Kylo Ren and Rey (also practically canonical since they've at least kissed)

* America and England from Hetalia (if I really want to go back to my fandom shipping roots. I read nothing but fics for them for like 2 years in high school 😅)

I want to ask you about those characters you have liked less, and you have commented on the blog, if you could change some stuff on their writing and on events that involve them to make them more likeable what would they be? I think yours are Lucie, Jesse, Gabriel and Cecily right? Like for example "make Jesse be resurrected in the beginning of chain of iron and develop more Grace and his relationship" , or "make Lucie hold less secrets from Cordelia".

PSA: When I gush about how perfect I think TLH is I don't mean Ghostwriter. I never mean Ghostwriter. Their story is terribly executed. However, TLH is still perfect because I give 0 fucks about Ghostwriter, so their poor development and terrible relationship doesn't impact my reading experience in the slightest <3

Lucie and Jesse

Lucie would basically just need to get her head out of the sand. I find her annoying primarily because all the other TLH characters act 25 and she acts like a spoiled 12 year old.

She starts the series with her head completely in the clouds, dreaming of silly fairy tales, and ends it in exactly the same place. Zero growth. And why would there be any? Everything that happens in her TLH plotline, what with getting a ramifications-free ghost boyfriend, reinforces that life is a fairy tale that she can twiddle her thumbs and dance through.

I think that this is what's disappointing about Lucie. She's fine at the beginning of ChoG because that's where her arc begins, but the problem is that she ends it as the same silly girl she started it while most other characters around her grow a lot.

I also think that Lucie would benefit from, like, just generally being less selfish. There was no reason for her to endanger Cordelia by not telling her about the Creepy Ghosts at their prospective parabatai ceremony. So, yeah.

As for Jesse, dude, I don't even know where to start. Get this man a personality, please, or at least a semblance of one. I genuinely believe that perhaps Cassie purposely made him a flavorless cardboard cutout so that teenagers reading could project their ghost-fairytale fantasy man onto him.

The main thing for Jesse, though, is that he needed to be less of a shithole to Grace. He was just so fucking godawful to her in Chain of Thorns that everything else about him (which isn't much to start with) pales in comparison. I hope she never talks to him again.

An aside --

I have a whole Ghostwriter plot idea that I think would have made Lucie's story really layered, but Jesse would actually die in it (thus forcing Lucie to show actual growth). Basically, everything would be the same until the end of ChoI, when Lucie would fail to bring Jesse back to life and realize then that her power was gone. She then would no longer be able to see his ghost. No more Jesse. Lucie would need to confront her happy-go-lucky-lalala-life-is-but-a-dream attitude and would therefore need to actually grow tf up. Lucie and Grace console each other and become close friends. They also both lost their love interests (I'm changing nothing else about TLH in this world, only Blackdale stuff), and both girls' happy ending lies in that friendship.

I loathe character death and I almost always hate tragedy, so you know shit's bad when I'm saying this. But Jesse's not an actual human; he's just a plot device! So maybe we should use that plot device in the best possible way if we're not going to make him a layered character :)

Gabriel and Cecily

I don't think about these two nearly as much as Ghostwriter, who I contemplate sometimes because I'm a TLH girlie.

I also don't find Gabriel or Cecily anywhere near as annoying as Lucie or Jesse. I don't care for them, but I also don't really hate them or even dislike them.

In Cecily's case, there's not really anything I'd change or even would want to change. I liked her a lot when I was 18 and the annoyance has built up steadily over time. Now I'm 27 and just view her as an annoying teenager. There's nothing wrong with her, but she reads young (I staunchly consider almost every TID character to read 20ish and every TLH character to read mid-20s. Cecily and Lucie are exceptions). I also don't want her gone, she contributes to the story and has her Moments.

Gabriel just is imo kind of off-putting to everyone besides Cecily and occasionally Gideon, and I just personally am not a big fan of him. But unlike Lucie or Jesse, he's a complex character with an interesting plotline and a tangible personality. He grows. He just didn't resonate with me. I will, however, say that there are a few moments where I want to give him a hug, because damn that kid got hit over the head with a ton of trauma baseball bats in a row.

Basically, in the end, Lucie and Jesse are characters I think are poorly-written and badly developed. Gabriel and Cecily are fine characters with good enough development, they just don't resonate with me through no fault of their own and that's okay.

thanks for acknowledging the fact that tmi is making me a bit crazy 💛 without further ado, parabatai pairs from worst to best at being parabatai:

luke & valentine - they get some points for participating in a Parabatai Love Triangle (tm) which we all know by now is an essential part of all parabatai pairs but i think it's literally mentioned once that they were parabatai and then it's never brought up again. clearly this was the parabatai equivalent of an embarassing teenage relationship. 1.5/10

lucie & cordelia - they at least take the whole parabatai connected-souls things quite seriously but they forgot the most important part and thats that you need to actually be friends. 3/10

jace & alec - these two however absolutely did not take it seriously enough lmfaoooooo there's real love between them but they hate communicating, talking and speaking to each other SOOOO MUCH. however i kind of have to respect it? sometimes a joint parabatai slay is that they both dont actually give a fuck ab being parabatai. they were kind of real for that. 5/10

james & matthew - i acknowledge that they tried but they werent very good at it were they. i think they kind of suffer from the same thing as lucie & cordelia in the sense that they interact too little to come off as besties even though they both want to be besties. however they did have quite a few moments of unwavering homoerotic loyalty and i do love that. didnt live up to their potential though. 5.5/10

robert & michael - yeah they ended on bad terms but at least they gave us the drama and the completely insane intensity i'm LOOKING for!!!! like i said earlier, almost 20 years after his death michael was still the person robert loved the most in the entire world and michael literally came back from the dead to attend roberts funeral. perhaps robert failed to notice michael dying but thats iconic in and of itself imo do you know how deep you have to bury your emotions to not notice your parabatai's death?????? complete emotional rollercoaster i love it. 7/10 no wonder jace & alec are Like That

simon & clary - they rlly just became parabatai because they could. overhated and underrated parabatai duo i think they lack a certain je ne sais quoi that other pairs do have but i'm obsessed w their friendship so i love them anyway<3 have we considered that more ppl should just become parabatai with their besties simply because they can? besides at this rate simon will be a werewolf or something in 3 months' time anyway so we can't ever blame them for jumping on the opportunity! 7.5/10

jonathan shadowhunter & david the silent - literally invented the parabatai bond. bestie goals. couldve made it more feminist and included a woman though 🙄 8/10

emma & julian - do i even need to explain. they burned down a church. objectively awful at the whole parabatai deal though but in such an iconic life-changing culturally historically and aesthetically significant way that i dont even care. 9/10
