I haven't drawn MLP next gen kiddos since like, 2016. So... Throwback time!

It was really fun to design these little ponies (Plus dragon)!

Notes: I didn't use bases, But I did use show screenshots as a starting point. I cheated lol

I am not 100% caught up on MLP (I originally drifted a bit from a show by about season 7) but I do have an idea how things end.

Character lore below the cut (It gets long):

Fizzle Dust:

Uses She/They pronouns interchangabley

Fizzle was spellborn from Twilight and Tempest, But surprisingly ended up being an earth pony. She is a bit taller than most ponies their age since her parents are both pretty tall

Ever since they were little, She's always wanted to be a royal guard

They feel like they have a lot of expectations on her shoulders, Since Tempest is a royal guard and Twilight is a princess. She tries to hide that though

Raspberry:

Uses any pronouns

Nopony was sure what the child of Fluttershy and Discord would end up looking like. Turns out, Discord's chaotic genetics seemed to awaken Fluttershy's dormant bat pony genetics, Thus ending up with Raspberry

Raspberry very rarely speaks, Using mostly squeaks and chirps

Unfortunately, She was bullied a lot as a kid, Not just for being a bat pony, But because he had a lot of weird interests growing up

They have a pet snake named Banana Sundae

Topaz:

Uses She/Her pronouns

Topaz was found as an egg with her birth parents being nowhere to be found. Fluttershy and Discord took her in to make sure she hatched safely

Unlike her Raspberry, Topaz is very talkative. She sometimes ends up going on for hours

She wants to care for animals like Fluttershy

She might be a part of this gen's CMC

Chocolate Fudge:

Uses She/Her pronouns

Chocolate is Pinkie and Cheese's second child

While she isn't quite as energetic as the rest of her family, She's still really bubbly and sweet

She has naturally straight hair but she makes it curly, Which is why it looks a little weird at the ends

She loves baking and wants to take over Sugarcube Corner someday

Prism Spectrum:

Uses She/Her pronouns

Prism was adopted by Rainbow and Gilda

She was born without a right hind leg, So she tends to fly more than she walks

She is the definition of chill

She sometimes struggles to show her emotions, Similarly to her parents

Apple Jewel:

Uses They/Them pronouns

Jewel is the spellborn child of Rarity and Applejack (They had Twilight's help though)

They are a wonderful artist who recently opened an art studio in Ponyville

They have always been heavily inspired by both of their parents since they're such hard workers

They sometimes paint so long, They forget to sleep, Which is why they often look tired

Blue Bow:

Uses She/Her pronouns

Blue was adopted by Coco and Rara

She lived most of her life in Manehattan. She moved to Ponyville where it's a bit quieter

She's a very talented song writer, But is too nervous to perform what she writes

However, She has a secret stage persona (Think of it as a Hannah Montana situation) named Golden Symphony. She's a lot more confident with her stage name

TMI Tuesday: What inspired all of your OCs?

That's actually a good question! Most of them are kinda experimental spur of the moment things, honestly. I think a basic answer I can give is something in a show or series sparked some inspiration, and I took that spark and ran with it. :) A couple examples are below though.

Heartistry was brought up from watching MLP and wanting a character in that universe. When I first made her, I couldn't decide between flight and magic, so I went with both. Then I got worried about her being a Mary-Sue kind of character since she'd have both powers, so I did some reworking to make it so she was just both and not some all powerful being!

Embi came from wanting a draconequus OC, but basing it off Discord being the Lord of Chaos, so I found animal parts that embody mischief and being playful for Embi. I made her the Embodiment of Disappointment as a result, because her antics would often cause distress and feeling of defeat.

Winter Prism actually was just supposed to be a random experiment on Pony Town and nothing more, but she got so much more attention than I realized, she became an OC. I wanted to play with color spectrums on an OC. Similar to the one Pink Floyd album everyone knows about with the black, white, and rainbow on it.

Alister was an interesting one because he was inspired by two things - the pet episode of MLP and the wyvern creatures from Kingdom Hearts. This guy here to be exact:

He was originally supposed to be just a pet, but soon evolved into a armless and winged version of Spike that communicates in chirps that's always with Heartistry.

As I said before, most of my OCs are just wanting to put a character into a universe of some sort, but others have just a hair more to it! ^^

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

In general she has trouble showing that she's struggling or feeling something not really socially acceptable and that will make her appear weak or unpleasant or a dead weight.

Mind me, she's genuinely cheerful and isn't pretending, but it takes her a lot to really open up and vent, as much as a good listener she is, she will just tell you she's perfectly fine if you insist and ask her what about her. If you can't help her "fix the problem", she'll hide it and take care of it herself so she won't "bother you" with her feelings, she's the one who takes care of others, not the opposite.

In Haven and at Skyhold, also, she doesn't really feel comfortable in showing off anything too Dalish. She started hiding because she felt out of place and horribly different and distant from everyone at the start, in Haven, and it terrorised her. As time went by and she learnt that the environment was very Andrastian, nobody really made her questions about her former life... She just kept everything private, prayed in the privacy of her room (she build a small altar on the loft, you can't notice it if you don't climb up), will divert the discourse every time someone asked her to speak of her clan, partly is to protect them from too much attention, partly is not to feel any more different and a fish out of water than she normally does.

Oooh this is great, thanks for asking! It's gonna be long, so there's a cut. Tagging also @shivunin who asked the same question:

I wanted another Dalish because I liked it. I decided that if Alyra was basically a human tank that shows very little her emotions, I wanted for Inquisition someone sweeter and kinder, very in contact with her emotions who likes to feel things ("If I feel it and digest it, it's not gonna return in the form of a demon"), but not weak, it became so melancholic as I started highlighting the character, as in

The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest.

So...

I think the closer character to her I can think of is Winry from FullMetal Alchemist. Awfully competent, clever, prone to melancholy, still coping with loss, the mom friend and the shoulder to cry on, always supporting.

And Brod from Everything Is Illuminated (the book):

"She was a genius of sadness, immersing herself in it, separating its numerous strands, appreciating its subtle nuances. She was a prism through which sadness could be divided into its infinite spectrum. Brod discovered 613 sadness’, each perfectly unique, each a singular emotion, no more similar to any other sadness than to anger, ecstasy, guilt or frustration. Mirror Sadness. Sadness of Domesticated Birds. Sadness of Being Sad in Front of Ones Parent. Humor Sadness. Sadness of Love Without Release.”

Kate McKinnon's character in the 2016 Ghostbuster for the scienific part (that movie is... not good, but Jillian Holtzman was not a flaw in any way), with a big sprinkle of Murphy from Interstellar.

Margarita from Master and Margarita also is a big inspiration (caring, self-assured even if gentle and kind, open-minded).

Add: a touch of Padmè Amidala political-wise (in a place of responsibility from too early an age, very responsible and serious, competent but caring to a fault, ultimately believing that diplomacy is the ultimate solution).

And as for songs: this is her playlist, but the main songs that inspired her were Lay Me Down by the Oh Hellos, Blood in the Wine by Aurora and Queen of Peace/Free by Florence + the Machine.

EDITED 1: She and Solas, particularly in the DadWolf AU, are inspired vaguely by Roy and Alexandria in The Fall (2006).

Alright, LGBTQ month is upon us. Time for

My OC's LGBTQ Identities.

Betty Locera: Cis/Het Supporter

I was planning on making Betty bisexual, but after a while, I changed her to being straight. Though some of her siblings are LGBTQ.

Since this is the 1930's, the chances of the average person knowing Betty is a supporter, let alone know some non-hetero people, is low; Betty knows her siblings don't want the drama, so she isn't open about who they are unless she knows she can trust that person. But if she sees anybody on the street being homophobic, she will not hold back. Especially if it's her family being hurt/disrespected. She doesn't tolerate any of that hate.

Detective Sketch: Non-Binary, Asexual Aromantic (partially out)

I do have a ship with Sketch that I love (Dice x Sketch. I'm a sucker for rivals to lovers). But in their own canon timeline, I can't see Sketch being interested in relationships or sex.

It doesn't happen often, but they have had people try to coerce them into going out for a night of fun. Whether it be because they genuinely thought Sketch was attractive, or they thought they could get away without paying them for their services. Sketch has turned them all down, and refuses to share why if they ask. As such, they've gained a small reputation of either being 'very picky', or being a 'romantic who only wants their true love'. Both of these titles make them cringe.

Sketch isn't really an open person, so them being partially out is kind of because they simply don't want to talk about it with strangers. But their family do know, and they're forever grateful for being accepted as who they are.

They didn't really have anyone to accept them before, when it was just them. They didn't even open up with the care takers at the orphanage. So they didn't really know what it felt like to be accepted like this until they had their family.

Prism: Demigirl, Demisexual Demiromantic (out)

Prism may use she/her pronouns, but all dream entities are on the non-binary spectrum in some way. Prism, in particular, is feminine leaning. And when it comes to romantic and sexual relations, she can't imagine anything like that with anyone she doesn't know. Prism doesn't get how some people can have these 'one-night stands' or go on a date the first thing. But whatever floats their boat.

The night dimension does not hold the same prejudice against sexual and gender orientation the same way some humans do. So, to Prism, being out and open about her identity is just the norm. When she first encountered a visitor who was closeted, it was a shock and a half for her. Especially when she found out why these visitors stay quiet about themselves for however long. What's the point of hating somebody for who they are?

Prism wishes she could understand. But she'll offer a safe space for any visitor no matter who they are, and will try to offer as much help and advice as possible.

Poppy: Cisgendered Bisexual (closeted)

Poppy had no idea she was bisexual. At least until she saw Disney's Snow White for the first time (Queen Grimhilde was her awakening). After that, she was left very confused. She had noticed women before, but she assumed that she was just appreciating their beauty, similar to appreciating a work of art, rather than... You know, wanting to kiss them.

Regardless of where she came from, whether she was drawn from paper or she came from her two strict and stuffy parents, Poppy wouldn't really be...Entirely sure of herself for a while. Especially since she's never been with a woman before. She isn't a homophobe at all, she'll support you no matter what you do behind closed doors. But for herself, she always assumed she was straight and that sexuality was simple. So this caught her way off guard.

Even when she fully realized and accepted who she was, Poppy has a hard time telling other people. Because this is the early 1900's, she knows that her sexuality would be a problem to some people, and she doesn't want any trouble. Even with her loved ones, she's scared of not only making them hate her, but also finding out that her loved one is that kind of person. It wouldn't be until she fully trusts someone before she tells them she's bisexual, and it wouldn't be until the modern era until she becomes more open about it, too.

ALRIGHT ALORGTH so these are characters for a oc passion project I’m tied between calling Inner Demons or Honeysuckle Heartbreak! I see the project as a Story about a group of Sophmore and beyond kids trying to navigate insecurities, love, sexuality, family and the difficulty of accepting who you are as a person. The main character is Ethan Mulberry and with the small intro out of the way I’ll talk about the characters and there demons!

The demons by the way, are also people and are manifestations of a characters struggles! The demons designs also play into what they represent. They are visible to the character they are a demon of as well as a few special cases which I won’t go into detail about unless asked to.

Starting off-we have Ethan Mulberry! Ethan is the protagonist of Inner Demons and is fifteen years old. He is a sophmore at Sorrowfield public highschool. He plays on the varsity soccer team and likes to wear long sweaters. He hangs out in his free time with his friend and college freshman Zander. He is somewhat of a jock and kind of a dick to a lot of people. His mother is a devout christian and is also divorced. His father up and left after an argument and has not been seen nor heard of sense. Ethan has blonde hair on top and brown edges on the bottom. He has plenty of freckles and gets his ears pierced in secret in the first part of the story.(which im still writing)

“Fruit loops” or Prism(as in the spectrum of color seen with a prism) is Ethan’s inner demon. He’s colorful and wears exclusively rainbow attire with a button down below it. He has the same dyed style as Ethan although his hair is curlier and brighter as well. He has a golden earing in one ear. Pretty much a walking gay jock. Prism adores and makes sure to comment every thought he has about Ethans female crushes. Naturally he hates them. Ethan usually ignores him though.

Prism and Ethan meet when Ethan looks in the mirror one day and nearly screams when he sees Prism instead of his reflection. It only goes down hill from there.

Piper: How exactly do your powers work?

I'm not entirely sure but I think that at least as far as seeing sound waves, it's just an additional visual spectrum I have access to? And then it's just a case of bending the waves like you can do with the normal visual spectrum to create rainbows with prisms or focus light through a magnifying glass to start a fire. Except I can do it without tools so...I guess that's not a great explanation is it? lol

Hey Bug I read your tag response to the oc post and I have a question you’re not obligated to answer!

Pronouns and gender interest me, especially when people use ones that aren’t the same as/associated with their sex, and I’m curious if there’s a reason why you use both it/its and they/them?

It/its is commonly used to refer to objects, and I’m wondering if you use those pronouns because of that (the association of something outside the binary) or because it’s just gender neutral.

This is very random and I hope I worded it okay :)

I was writing a longer thingie here, but I'm shortening it here because I could talk for Hours about Gender. So. For me, gender was always a prison. I was expected to be a Girl, and as a girl I could really only reach for Second Best most of the time. It sucked.

I finally felt like myself when I made friends (real friends) for the first time in Washington, which was a much more liberal area than where I had been raised. Nobody really bullied me any more, and I finally found someone that made me feel like I didn't have to be afraid to be Myself. Eventually I found out that I liked girls and that it was an okay feeling for someone who was also a girl to have. I made friends with my friend's friends and their younger sibling, who I got along with as a Fellow G1 My Little Pony Fan And Toy Collector.

Something still didn't feel right though. I was finally Myself, but I still woke up every day cursing god that I was a girl and was expected to do and want girl things. It sucked. I didn't wanna be a girl. I didn't wanna be a boy either, I was just trading out glittery pink princess shackles for metallic blue football shackles. Shackles are still Shackles no matter how cool they look, and I'm not one to just go along with what everyone else wants me to do, at the very least I'll fight the whole way.

One day, my friend's younger sibling pipes up in our group chat and says "Hey I'm Nonbinary and use They/Them Pronouns, please call me [Name] instead of [deadname] from here on out." I didn't know what all of these words meant at all. So I messaged them and asked, because what else are ya gonna do?? They filled me in on the whole thing with Gender being a Spectrum, and they were simply choosing No Gender With Left Beef. Once they were done explaining I almost couldn't believe what I'd heard, it was like they'd taken every secret desire in my heart and said "hey this is possible and also super cool and you can do what you want actually." Like it really did just all fit into place for me. A little while later I came out as nonbinary because I didn't wanna steal their thunder but I was 110% ready to be Done with the whole Girl Thing. Didn't decide to go by a different name until I told my mom that I'm nonbinary. She still doesn't get it and won't use the name I've chosen even to this day, but you can't win 'em all, and I'm glad to finally know who I am.

I don't feel a lack of gender though, if anything I feel Almost Too Much Gender. White isn't the absence of color, but it's actually all colors at once. When light shines through a prism, it refracts into a rainbow. That's the closest I can get to explaining my gender. I'm genderfluid, so some days I'm more purple than blue, or more yellow than green, but they're all there in different amounts, you just can't see it unless I shine a light on it, really. They/Them also works because I contain multitudes. It's Great. Gender is a Spectrum and I'm a Rainbow.

Onto the it/it's thing. I've always loved insects and little creatures Too Small and Strange to Put a Gender To, most people can't look at a Roly-Poly and say Oh That's A Girl Insect, they just hold it up on their finger and admire it's cute little antennas. I've Always Fucked Heavily With That. But that's not what fully It/It's'd My Gender. I was at college and having moved to a Much Less Liberal Place Than Washington, there was a group of girls making fun of trans people for Anything They Could Think Of because they're bigoted and slurs are funny or whatever. I mentioned that I'm gay and use they/them pronouns, and cracked a few Tumblr Jokes™ like the good old "I'm about to make your pronouns was/were," and got a few laughs. And then the girl that started this whole mess was uncomfortable that the spotlight wasn't on her anymore and said some unfunny shit like "lol this table's pronouns are it/it's!!! Lmao!!! how ridiculous 😂🤣😂🤣" and I decided then and there that those are gonna be my pronouns. And funny enough, even after I left college, the pronouns stuck, I really like them! They feel comfortable, like the right pronouns for a Bug such as Myself.

My Gender Journey has mostly been stumbling into different Gender Things and trying them on, and if I don't like it then the gender goes back on the rack. If I do I just take it home with me and style it however I please. Gender doesn't have to be a prison!!!! Sometimes it can be your fucking home!!!!!!! It's Great!!!!!!!!

TLDR: friend freed me from gender prison and I found they/them pronouns bc I have lotsa the Gender Fluid in me, someone made fun of it/its pronouns so I decided to make it uncomfortable for them to be transphobic, ended up Liking it/its pronouns.

Rayna Rouge is the main character for my story “Spectrum,” a universe where seven teenagers are mutated by an “abandoned” experiment and turned into… superheroes? They must battle monsters, villains, mean girls, and bigotry in order to unite their city state against the oligarchy that rules it.

The “show” will so far have three “seasons,” each one having the team unlock new abilities and face off new-ish foes. Hopefully I’ll start the project this summer, but life drives itself.

Rayna, my favorite OC right now, is the leader of Spectrum, and she often serves as the cheerleader for the group, often to exorbitant amounts. After joining Prism Academy from a lottery, she was intent on making friends with other colors, no matter how difficult it will be. Being attack by a modified alien crystal wasn’t in the schedule, but look at all the friends she has now, not including the nanobots that are now in her bloodstream.
