#this is what the average person on tumblr is missing. what i meant when i said the average person on tumblr should see misogynistic men talk#on the internet regularly they would benefit from that#not incels or andrew tate guys. normal guys#in november#and like i say: brf slt#i remember in 2016 when i was just getting into feminism as like a thing of the present the big thing on french twitter was for guys to say#meuf = pute: girl = whore. they would just say this. 24/7. not even a creative way to be misogynistic. but i was like oh!#then when girls would talk about getting harassed they would be like you made this up you're too ugly a film directed by quentin#tarantino etc. i think one of the most frustrating things they do is say no boy has ever sexually harassed a girl in middle school because#all they thought about at that age (that age being. from 11 to 15) was football and video games like OH MY GOD we were literally there#i mean no there's worse a lot worse but it's one of the most annoying ones like how are you all coming together to collectively#gaslight us#i could give more examples but it's not that interesting just these people HATE US!!!!!!#it's never just one or two guys or even ten or even twenty it's SO MANY PEOPLE just united by their hatred of women...heartwarming#in a way#but whatever i know people are awful on the internet or whatever but these people exist irl i'm pretty sure. im just not blissfully unaware#i'm sure that's nice. it's probably a bliss even. frustrating for normal people who have to interact with that though#or maybe not for normal people misogyny is a very widespread thing idk if you know this...frustrating for me!#like why does seeing frankly misogynistic tweets kinda not bother me as much as seeing posts that act like misogyny isn't a thing. at least#they're honest!!!!!#like it does feel very bad. but i'm used to it. kind of

all hate to tiktok for taking 'having a space to more openly and actively talk about different cultures' to mean 'cultures are NOT to be shared and we must be vigilantly defensive of our cultures for fear of appropriation, a word that can be applied to any multicultural interaction'. like of course cultural appropriation is a very real problem but ive seen with the access to global multicultural conversation that tiktok provides it's made people TERRIFIED to even interact with cultures other than their own for fear of 'doing it wrong'. like at some point you have to acknowledge that in the real world of the great outdoors, the majority of people are eager to SHARE their cultures. yes there are ignorant questions and biases but also... how do you think those things get unlearnt? i dont understand how deciding that multiculturalism is an elephant in the room instead of a normal thing that should just be talked about and lived with is supposed to benefit anyone? and kids on tiktok are CONVINCED that it's a time bomb of a conversation to have and therefore must be avoided at all costs but like. people generally LOVE their home and their culture and are PROUD of it and want to share it. how have we made it so that showing genuine interest and a desire to understand something so integral to a person's identity is now feared and borderline demonised?
#thinking about this a lot lately. thinking about how fun it was comparing cultural differences in america#thinking of how when i was homesick one thing i found a great comfort in was talking about my home#and how it differed and i really loved and appreciated it when people would ask me about england#in a way that they genuinely just wanted to learn about it and not to take the piss#thinking about how the kitchen at work has chefs from all over europe. we have an irish chef and a spanish chef and an italian chef#and one of the kps is from eastern europe (i havent actually been able to find out where yet) etc and the way they banter with each other#like usually chefs are Problematic bc their humour is VERY abrasive and usually offensive#but this is one instance where it's actually to their benefit bc they're so unafraid to ADDRESS THE FACT THEY HAVE DIFFERENT CULTURES#i feel like the tiktok gen are so petrified of even acknowledging other cultures let alone discussing them#that it's actually sending the conversation backwards. like how does hoarding your culture and pretending it's not there benefit anyone#LET ALONE YOU AND THE CULTURE IN QUESTION. idk it just baffles me a bit that something that started as people on tiktok#genuinely spreading information and talking about the BAD side of this where people DO culturally appropriate or invade spaces that arent#theirs has now become 'for fear of speaking bad about it we will not speak about it at all'. and they'll crucify you if you do. like what#even at uni my best mate is indian and she's too scared to join the sikh society on her own so i regularly go to the events with her#and im typically one of the handful (or the only) white non-sikh there and i get SO welcomed each time#like there's such a genuine excitement to share the culture with someone who is effectively a blank slate#and like yeah ill ask 'dumb' questions or i'll have different experiences (tried a samosa for the first time at one of these events#and the moment that info got out i had like five STRANGERS trying to give me different samosas to try and it was genuinely such#a laugh bc yes they were TEASING me bc 'how have you never had one' but they were also really eager to share MORE as a result)#ugh idk what im saying. i just think it's a shame to watch this happen in real time on the internet#when if people would just go outside and actually TALK to people from other cultures they'd realise 9 times out of 10 the interactions#are actually really really nice for BOTH parties. and actually refusing to talk about this stuff is long-term pretty fucking detrimental#and it also goes the other way!!! like imagine if i - citizen of colonisation motherland herself - didn't interact with other cultures#and didnt ask questions or hear their opinions on whatever shared history we have from THEIR POINT OF VIEW#imagine the kind of shit id be internalising bc i only hung out with other white british people. it wouldnt matter if i was doing it#to be woke or 'respect their culture'. it would still be fucking ignorant. like half my interactions with other cultures#see me as the butt of the joke bc of this like aforementioned irish chef at work VOCALLY slates the english all the time#but it's done in an environment where we're FRIENDS and it's poking fun at each other while still addressing a very serious history. like??#idk if any of this is worded in a way that makes sense but yeah. i have thoughts#cant believe i got inspired to make an actually serious post bc of the CHEFS AT WORK. embarrassing. no one let them see this

Hello, long time follower just on other platforms and I love your work. I am currently getting my Masters in Comics and Graphic Novels, and do tell me if this an inappropriate question but how much do you make? Like a month doing comics and art? Also what do you do on a day to day basis? I'm worried about my future after I graduate.
Thank you so much! This is a great question, and I wish more people would be candid about answering it because I'd like creators to demand more money. This will be a very long post! Keep reading if you're interested. MASSIVE info dump below.
Tumblr media
I think earnings in comics and books can look wildly different for almost every creator, and it depends on a lot of things. With that in mind, I make a slightly different amount every year. I view my finances mostly through page rates, contracted projects, and passive-ish income. Because I'm terrible at math, I'm just going to tell you how much I make per contracted projects, plus some relevant information in terms of Life Stuff. This will be very long, and I will highlight some important details that people maybe don't like to talk about very much.
Please also bear in mind that I live in Minnesota, away from all my major publishers and editors who are situated on the coasts, so my cost of living is much more manageable.
Background: Building a Foundation (2012-2018)
I graduated from college in 2012 and lived with my parents until 2018. I did not have to pay rent or worry about food, so I got to save up a lot of money to invest in developing as an artist–paying for printing zines, making merch, travel to conventions, table costs, and secure hotel accommodations. This helped enormously, and I would not have been able to spend six years developing my portfolio and connecting with comics peers and professionals without my parents. They were very supportive, even if they had no idea that I was developing professionally as an artist (LOL, they're very proud of me now, but they truly just thought I was being a weird internet gremlin the whole time). They're also not wealthy people by any means. My parents immigrated to the US in their 20s as refugees with absolutely no money and one baby (it me, I am the baby), but they each became pretty successful small-business owners in their own right and were able to help put me through school with minimal debt, even through the financial crisis in the late aughts.
I started making art in 2012-ish as well, but only semi-professionally, and barely on purpose. I was employed full-time in a non-art job between 2013 and 2018 at a local non-profit that specialized in pediatric therapy. I occupied a role as their front office person/corporate assistant. I made about 40k a year at that job, with benefits, and I made a negligible amount of money doing art and making comics. I should also note that throughout this time, I was working 40 hours a week at my day job, commuting between 2-4 hours a day depending on the weather (my commute was an hour for each direction in good weather and up to three hours if it snowed), and then working on comics for 3-4 hours in the evening, every evening. This meant that I would frequently be working anywhere between 65-85 hours a week for five years, and I do not recommend this! I burned out pretty bad! I didn't go to art school or learn about comics, either, so I felt like I had to spend time building my portfolio to make up for lost time. I didn't even know I wanted to make comics until maybe two years after I graduated from undergrad.
Tumblr media
I did manage to build a nice portfolio and connect with people who were making the sort of work I liked to make, so the portfolio-building did help. I posted regularly online in different platforms and steadily grew an audience over the years via Tumblr (heyyy!) Instagram (which I personally loathe), Patreon (stressful, but necessary and also getting more comfortable to use!), and Twitter (which I have very mixed feelings about, but I'll miss it if it dies). I did a few short comics with writers whose work I admired. The Fresh Romance Anthology in 2015 was my first major published work, and it was with writer Marguerite Bennett, who remains one of my absolute favorite people. I was so inexperienced at the time, and she would check in with me to make sure I got paid for my work, and then she would follow up with everyone responsible if I was not properly compensated. Not everybody is this on-the-ball about making sure their colleagues are treated well, and she absolutely set the bar for me going forward.
Doing It For Real + Some Numbers (2018-2021)
In 2018, I put together a pitch document for The Magic Fish (if you'd like to see my pitch document, here is a Dropbox link to it! It's just a book report for a book that doesn't exist yet, and I hope you find it helpful if you need it), shopped around for an agent, and found one I'm very happy with (Kate McKean at Morhaim! She's amazing! She runs a newsletter where she gives you the lowdown on how the publishing industry works, so if you're interested in Books, you can check out her writing over at Agents and Books). Then my agent shopped the pitch around to editors and publishers, and Random House Graphic won out. Also, every time she negotiates a contract for me in my home market (the US), she gets 15% cut, which is entirely worth it to me. She does so much. It's incredible.
Tumblr media
Random House Graphic's offer wound up being for two books at $45k each, with pretty standard royalty rates, I think around 10% in general, though there are stipulations around royalties that I can't remember off the top of my head (and also bear in mind that you do not earn royalties until your book sales have earned out your advance, and not all published books earn out). To me, this is a lot of money! BUT the graphic novel took two full years to make, so that $45k needed to last me until 2020, which is not livable if you're on you're own. Also, the advance is paid out in chunks at certain milestones of project completion. I'd get a few thousand at a time for the script, another few for the thumbnails, more for the inks, and on and on until the book is done. I would not start to get paid for the second book until I started working on it.
Earlier in 2018, I'd moved in with my partner, so we managed paying the bills and groceries together. Luckily for me, I had also completed a full tarot deck as a separate personal art project to help build my confidence as an illustrator, and my agent sold the tarot deck project (The Star Spinner Tarot) to a different publisher for a $15k advance, so I had some extra wiggle room in 2018. I quit my day job because this was a rare instance in which a book deal provided me with enough money to live on making art, with the caveat that I shared financial responsibilities with my partner. By this time, my Patreon, which I started back in 2015 I think, was also earning anywhere between $800-$1000 a month, which was really great semi-passive income. I'd post process shots and WIPs a couple times a week, and that really helped from month to month.
In 2020, The Magic Fish was published and got a lot of really lovely press. It debuted on the Indie Best-Seller list, and it got pretty popular in schools and libraries. Suddenly, my responsibilities expanded to also being a public speaker (side note: if you make a book about topics of some academic interest, make a generic powerpoint presentation about it now! I'm so serious!). I stopped tabling at conventions (the pandemic), but I would also be paid for speaking gigs in between. I'm not an enormously in-demand public speaker, so I usually asked for an honorarium of about $500 from schools and institutions for online appearances, though I'm about to ask for a lot more because it's cutting into a lot of the time I need to make comics and hit my deadlines. As people are more comfortable meeting in person, I usually ask for a speaking fee of at least $1500, and it must be after they've already taken care of my travel and accommodations. I'm not very well versed in the standards for speaking fees for debut authors, so this might not be standard! It's just my best estimation of the value of my time and effort for that instance.
Speaking of comics and deadlines, I sometimes take on smaller projects for DC (you might have seen these) and Marvel (shhh it's not been announced yet), and the page rates for those, as they've paid me, are usually as follows: $90 per page for writing ($45 for plotting and $45 for scripting), $160 for pencils per page, and $90 for inking per page. I've never colored or lettered, so I don't know those rates. I do regularly talk to other writers and artists, and the rates for writers are all over the place and seem to depend on whether you've signed an exclusive contract with either of those companies. I don't know what a contracted penciller or inker is paid by them, or if that's even a thing that happens? I also sometimes do comics cover work, and I usually charge between $1200 and $1500. I tend to charge a bit more for covers these days because I personally don't like doing covers all that much.
Tumblr media
Starting to Reap the Benefits Maybe? (2021-2022)
In 2021, I started getting royalty checks for both Star Spinner Tarot and The Magic Fish. These payments will vary wildly, and I think they will naturally peter off as time goes on, and I'll need to make more books and projects. In both cases, I was surprised. I think at one point a random check hit my bank account for like $20k and I nearly fainted, but some of the other royalty checks will be much more modest. This process of getting paid is also immensely eased by having a good agent! I cannot stress this enough!
Then both the Star Spinner Tarot and The Magic Fish got foreign language licenses, and those come with small advances of their own, each between $2k and $3k, from what I can recall, with varying royalty rates depending on the publisher who acquired those rights. Those royalty rates are, in my limited experience, more modest than my American publisher's, come to around 7% or 8%. The Star Spinner Tarot got an official French edition, and The Magic Fish has been licensed for publication in Italian, French, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish so far.
Since 2021, I've also signed on to draw two more graphic novels for other people, and my agent is able to demand higher advances for me, even when I'm only doing the drawing part.
Tumblr media
My Day-to-Day
I think that's about as comprehensive as I can be about numbers. On a daily basis, my schedule depends on whether I'm writing or drawing. Graphic novels are long projects. I'll be writing for months at a time and then drawing for even more months or even years after. I spend a lot of time answering emails for speaking requests, and my agent will sometimes pass along emails about legitimate project requests (another advantage of having an agent is I don't have to sift through scam emails or shady collaborators). I spend way more time answering emails and trying to iron out my calendar than I'd like.
I'm currently working on my second graphic novel for Random House Graphic, and I'm extremely excited about it.
Another thing I've learned is that I like to bounce between projects, but they have to be between a paid project and a personal project. If I'm juggling paid projects, I get overwhelmed and stressed. If I can work on a paid project and then also make personal art, I can feel some relief and maintain a positive relationship with my work. If you can ever get to a point where you can manage to do this, I highly recommend it. I never want to hate making comics, and this balance of personal-to-paid projects helps me keep loving the work.
Closing Thoughts
My only hesitation in talking candidly about all this is that I'm not sure my professional trajectory is applicable for most people. I think I've had a uniquely positive experience once I got off the ground, and I know most people's journeys are very much not this smooth. In a lot of ways, I got very lucky. And along the way I had help, especially before I got my foot firmly in the door. I don't think I make stratospherically high amounts of money, but I know this is still an atypically stable amount for a lot of artists and authors. And even so, I anticipate that some years will be better or worse than others.
Obviously, I couldn’t cover absolutely everything, but my hope is that this will be a good starting point for you to figure out what you need to plan for the future. Best of luck! Thank you for your question! I’m sorry it’s so long.

thank you so much, I use this blog to help me draw pokemon faces all the time
this is something i've heard before that was an unexpected but welcome benefit of the blog! i have to say, i have no clue what i'm going to do once i get past silicobra—now that we're getting into newer generations (the queue is already into gen 8), my typical sources of models are starting to become more and more unreliable and there are some pokémon that i just can't find anywhere on the internet. not sure exactly what i'm gonna do if i can't find them, to be honest, and the current state of the blog has already been getting rougher around the edges behind the scenes anyway. i've been told to just go on indefinite hiatus until some more models are ripped, but i don't really want to do that. comments like these are really why i don't want to, even if the blog isn't exactly conducive to my mental health—y'know. it's been on a consistent schedule for this long, and at least two people are waiting for these every day so. i can't just give up. but i still don't really know what i'm going to do. it's a little scary, looking into the future, but i just hope i can keep providing in the same way y'all have come to expect from me. not many of you are here for me and a good majority are obviously here for what i call Regularly Scheduled Programming, and since asks usually only get around 20 notes max, i doubt a majority of those folks will even see this—and that's fine; they're here for silly front-facing pokémon and i'm doing my best to oblige. but the problem with that is that i know how the tumblr userbase can be, and i'm slightly afraid of what would happen if i did go on a random hiatus. who would even read the post saying why? the dedicated ones, sure; the ones that enjoy my commentary, sure. but i already said i don't want to go on hiatus, so i suppose i'll have to find a way. i don't know what that way may be, and i imagine that way is only going to make this harder on me
there is more that i could say here, but it may get a little too personal for hijacking your ask to talk about it, anon. my apologies! very long story made short, i hope there won't be any turbulence and that the general followerbase (that's you) won't notice anything, but don't be surprised if there is and you do. now take some nose ratings

Blamed for Surviving
A new book tells the gripping story about a Polish Jew and brilliant mathematician who, during the Holocaust, pretended to be a member of the Polish nobility to survive the Nazi occupation. Janina Spinner Mehlberg's deception actually ran two layers deep: she worked for a Polish welfare organization during the war, while secretly being a member of the Polish Underground -- but in the Polish Underground, she maintained her cover as a Catholic "Countess" in order to hide her Jewish identity from her fellow resistors. There's much that could be said about this story, not the least the lengthy period where publishers ignored it out of a general disinterest in hearing survivor narratives. But I want to focus on something slightly different.  In her "public" role during the war, Mehlberg regularly worked with the Nazi occupiers, negotiating for more food or resources to enter the work camps by arguing that it would serve the interests of the German war machine (non-starving workers could replace German men sent to the front, for instance). Even this at best indirectly benefited Jewish inmates, who were typically slated for direct extermination -- the hope was that some of these provisions would end up reaching the entirety of the camps and so improve the survivability for Jews as well as ethnic Poles. Mehlberg, in short, may not have saved any Jews at all. And her "arguments" were ones expressly framed around aiding the Nazi's military ambitions. Yet I cannot imagine anyone reading her story and not thinking she acting bravely and heroically. This is why, whenever I see some soulless cretin on the internet running the "Zionists collaborated with Nazis" narrative, with a smirk and a sanctimonious "see how evil they are and always have been!", I positively radiate with fury. In the most horrifying circumstances imaginable, yes, Jews were forced to negotiate with Nazis -- and negotiate from positions of weakness and supplication. The "deals" we got obviously were not good ones, but that didn't make them any less necessary. To treat this as cowardice or betrayal is not just to miss the point, it is to act with an almost impossible cruelty towards the survivors and the Jewish community writ large placed in truly impossible circumstances. It blames survivors for surviving, and trying to help others survive as well. Even if I thought, with the benefit of hindsight and comfortable distance, that the deals were objectively "bad" (and I make no such claim), I would still never dare indict those who made them. I cannot imagine having the hubris or the heartlessness to do otherwise. I do not judge Mehlberg for doing what it took to survive. I do not judge her for trying her best, in the best way she could, to save innocent lives. It was not her who placed her in those circumstances. Anyone who tries to make her, or those in analogous circumstances, into a villain, is beneath contempt. via The Debate Link https://ift.tt/KXDZVcW

To be fair, I think there's a lot of nuance between "the OGL was always bad and everyone was a sucker to have trusted WotC to uphold it" and "the OGL is the best thing to happen to D&D and D&D will die without it."
First of all, a bit of context: the OGL wasn't published purely out of the kindness of Wizards of the Coast's hearts. It was a decision informed by the desire to make D&D into the absolute biggest game on the market. The prevailing logic of the time was that while any growth to the RPG hobby in general would feed back to the industry leader, the fact that the market was fractured and there were so many competing systems meant that there would be resistance towards people shifting to D&D from other games. The idea was that the lower the barrier to creating D&D compatible content the less support there would be in the market for other systems and the more people would gravitate towards D&D.
Or at least that's what Ryan Dancey, one of the architects of the OGL, claimed at the time. This is all from an interview with him, via the Internet Archive.
But the important thing to remember that the context in which the OGL was made was also one where the RPG industry had seen multiple instances of litigation because games and products had been seen as infringing on established copyrights. While it's easy for us to say that the OGL was a useless document only motivated by corporate greed, it ignores the historical context in which the OGL was first introduced: an environment where just seven years before Palladium Books had taken legal action against Wizards of the Coast due to copyright infringement. Even though with the benefit of hindsight it's easy to say that rules and mechanics aren't copyrightable and law specifically allows you to claim compatibility, the actual lived experience in the RPG community at the time was that ligitous companies could and would sue you for something as simple as claiming compatibility. Hell, TSR was supposedly so litigious in the 80s and 90s that people came up with the backronym "They Sue Regularly" for them.
So in that context the OGL, even if it technically didn't grant any rights people didn't already have based on existing law (and even on this there doesn't seem to be a consensus), was a massive game changer: it was permission from a company to use their house system to produce compatible content without having to fear limitation!
The OGL was always made with the intent of making D&D the biggest game on the market and to diminish the market share of competitors on the market. But it also marked a huge change in the industry towards how large publishers approached third party content.
But between the d20 bubble bursting in the early 2000s and the introduction of 4e and the GSL and the ensuing loss of a lot of customer goodwill and most third party support, the OGL had also become something of a problem for WotC. It had managed to create their biggest competitor and allowed an independent market to emerge where people used it to create material that did not feed back into the official D&D ecosystem (see the whole of the OSR and any number of d20-based games that are so distinct from D&D that any claims of compatibility are strenuous at best). In light of this I think it's understandable why it took some time for Wizards to adopt the OGL for D&D 5e (5e came out in 2014; it wasn't until 2016 until parts of 5e were made available through the OGL) but also why their new management seem to want to unauthorize the original OGL: the OGL was created in a completely different context and the current prevailing wisdom at WotC is that D&D should be a walled garden that WotC controls, because the OGL in its original form has caused WotC problems down the line (while I do think it could be said to have achieved its original goal of making D&D the market leader and creating a lot of resistance towards the use of other game systems). The prevailing opinion is no longer that vibrant third party support creates demand for the core product (and I mean, that was always something of a flaw in the original plan: once you've sold everyone a Player's Handbook, they no longer need to keep buying it no matter how many more third party products come out). Instead, those third party sales are now seen as taking away money that could be better spent on official D&D stuff.
None of this is to say that I think what WotC is doing is good: even if the OGL had been meaningless from a legal standpoint it had sent a message that creators had some degree of protection from legal action. Even if its original purpose was to suffocate the market with D&D support to the detriment of other games, it was still an entry point for many amazing creatives in the industry and it has played a small part in making the RPG scene more vibrant. I won't discuss whether or not WotC can legally unauthorize the original OGL, but from my own point of view whatever the legality of it is, just the idea of unauthorizing it is a betrayal to many creatives who in good faith expected to be able to continue using it.
Anyway, Kobold is supposedly working on a secret project, which to me sounds like they're going to make their own game that just so happens to be compatible with D&D while not using the OGL but only time will tell, and Paizo is in the process of creating their own open license, probably so they can keep Pathfinder 2e open to third party creators. We'll see how this pans out.

Hi! Can you give some tips on how to stand out, make friends and valuable connections with your professors during your studies? And any other college tips unrelated to studying? I want to reap full benefit of my resources! Thank you for your helpful contributions!
Hi love! This is a very multifaceted question, so I'll offer a few general tips I hope can be helpful. As a note, I went to a very urban school, basically just living in the city and attending classes, so I know very little about campus life. Hope this helps xx
Tips For Making Connections With Professors and Friends In College (How To Stand Out In A Class or Peer Group):
Practice Active Listening & Ask Thoughtful Follow-Up Questions
Remember Details (Small facts mentioned by a professor about a course topic/their outside work or life/a small detail about a potential friend's interests, activities, planned events, internships/part-time jobs, major & courses, etc.)
Keep An Open Line of Communication: With professors, this means asking questions in class (not too many though), emailing any follow-up questions to course or assignment material or related career questions, sending links to relevant articles related to course material, events mentioned in class, etc.). With friends, this can mean following up on an introduction, just say "Hi! Great meeting you, [insert their first name]. We definitely should get coffee/go to that event we discussed together, etc." Remain casual and interested, not desperate or obsessed.
Attend Office Hours & Events Related To Your Interests: Take advantage of office hours and professional opportunities to chat with your professors. In college, coffee meetings with one or more students are very rarely a red flag – especially if they meet with students regularly. Go to events organized by your school, like an art/business club meeting and different discussion panels. Join clubs like the school newspaper or a social club (if Greek life is for you).
Other Tips To Maximize Your College Experience:
Leverage Your Student Privilege: If there's a company you want to intern for or a professional you want to meet, connect with them on LinkedIn and send a personalized message. Share that you're a student with your major and desired career field (keep it short) and that you would appreciate the connection/answers to a couple of questions. Many professionals (myself included) are glad to help students out with a few tips or an informal interview – depending on availability and meeting circumstances.
Create A Work-Life Schedule: After knowing your class schedule and syllabus for the semester, roughly plan the days and times you will be studying/doing your weekly assignments. Then, fill in any part-time job and internship obligations you have. Add clubs and student activities into your schedule next. Then, find the times you want to plan on socializing. Having a general schedule in place gives you a sense of control and structure, which is generally lacking in college, and also makes you more confident when making plans. You can always say to people: "I can do lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12, 1, or 2 pm, for example." This method is better than saying "I'll let you know" when you actually are trying to plan on the spot. Time management helps you actually make plans and seem interested in spending time with the other person. (It also helps with planning your hangovers, but you didn't hear that from me!).
Expand Your Interests With The Internet: If you don't find resources near you to explore your interests, join virtual organizations or do remote internships to gain experience and connect with others in your desired field (including other college students with similar interests who could become long-distance friends!)
Different Friends Can Serve Different Purposes: Have your class friends, going to lunch or weekday meals friends, going out friends, and then your genuinely close friends (if you find 1-2 of these types of friends, that's plenty and very lucky!). Don't be afraid to spend most of your time alone. As long as you have some social interactions and put effort into this area of your life, remember that we all have solo seasons or days. Think of this time as an opportunity to reflect, work towards your goals, and spend time with yourself to discover what you really enjoy and want in life.

Even the physical discs you get today often just contain the same internet-based installer that you'd download from the digital store.
So... is there even a point to buying physical discs anymore, especially for the purposes of preservation and keeping an inalienable collection? If all discs do is set up a download, when the servers go dark, your options for playing that game get severely curtailed. If not, are the options for preservation fully out of the layman's hands, or are there things regular folks like me can do to keep games available outside of corporate whims?
Not all of them do this, but many of them do now. It's been this way for a long time already. Games today get patches quite regularly. Console certification even has a "conditional pass" result where the submitted version of the game passes cert, but requires the publisher to submit a day 1 patch to fix a bunch of additional issues (e.g. Cyberpunk 2077, where they actually failed cert on their day 1 patch, leading to a post-gold delay). If those patches are no longer available, even a physical disc with all of the launch game data will likely have some major problems when trying to play them (assuming you have everything needed to play like functioning hardware and display devices).
Tumblr media
Beyond this, there's still the consideration that you can't really patch a console game yourself either - you either need the console OS and the PSN/XBL networks to still exist and support the game and patch in order to get the patch binary onto your console and apply it, or you need to emulate that environment externally. If backend network support for the old consoles goes down, you'll be unable to patch those games, even if you did somehow manage to preserve the patch binaries.
Tumblr media
You should also realize that preservation of some game titles have always been out of the question. There is no way that players could have ever preserved the launch version of Ultima Online (or any other MMOG) no matter what they did. The only way for external groups to preserve the game would be to reverse-engineer the data and game server, but that's still just an approximation at best. There's really no chance for people to preserve a game like Destiny or even client/server mobile titles like Dragalia Lost which just ended service earlier the week of this post.
Tumblr media
Preservation of games is... difficult. Personally, I don't think it should be up to the regular person to preserve games - we literally cannot in many situations. I think that the best way to preserve games is to lobby lawmakers and pass some kind of legislation that offers game publishers some kind of benefit for preserving old and historic games and making them available to the public, similar to how donors can get major tax writeoffs for donating artifacts to museums. Publishers likely won't do anything to help until there's something in it for them, and they're the ones we need to convince to preserve games.

hey so can i ask what made you start this blog and for how long have you had it?
Hi anon,
I have had this blog for about a year.
I started this blog for these reasons:
I wanted to talk about theology from the perspective of a formerly-orthodox Jew. Most Jews on here are either a) lifelong liberal Jews b) lifelong orthodox/conservadox Jews or c) baalei teshuvah (people who became orthodox.) I didn't see many people on here who took the path I did, and I wanted to share this perspective. It's helpful for me to think things out with others, and I hope it's helpful for others to see the things I struggle with and the meaning I've made out of my formerly-frum ideology (as a "lonely man of faith," if you will.)
I also wanted to talk about my experience as an anti-Zionist Jew, since I think a lot of Jews on here are (unfortunately) more receptive to hearing these things from fellow Jews than they are from Palestinians or anyone else who's not Jewish. Not that I don't get called a self-hating Jew regularly, but I've met several people on here that have benefited from my perspective. I think it also helps with solidarity for Palestinians and non-Jewish allies to Palestine to know just how badly the Jewish world is infected with zionism.
Following from this, and this one was unintentional because I did not want anymore westerners to learn about this: I see very little writing on the English-language internet about anti-normalization and why its more extreme wing is very damaging. I naively thought that other western leftists would never learn about it (because it's been over a decade) and nobody's written much about it. But of course it's rearing its head again, and I couldn't stand by while all forms of solidarity were condemned in the name of "upholding the thawabet." Read about Rami Aman.
Unrelated to religion or politics, finally: I wanted to talk about my experience as an autistic adult. I haven't talked about this as much, but it's something I really struggle with. I finished school and have had my current job for almost a year, and I did these things by the absolute skin of my teeth. [Obligatory privilege check here], but I cannot emphasize how unlikely it was that I succeeded at this. I want to share my experience in case it helps others in my position live independently and do the basic things that I struggled to do for so long (faking small talk, eating regularly, etc.)
Right now my blog is basically all Palestine because it's an issue very close to me. Not just because I'm a Jew. I know several people personally who have suffered at the hands of the zionist occupation. I will be talking about Palestine after Palestine is free because part of my heart is there.

Wayfarer Dev Log 2022.07.02.
Hi friends,
Happy July! Episode 2 is now out publicly, I hope you all have been enjoying your playthroughs. A lot of things happened in June, but before we get to the recap, I have a few announcements to make:
✦ HIATUS
By the time this post goes up, I am officially on hiatus. This means I will not be working on Wayfarer or any of its supporting materials for an entire month. I have limited internet access, so I will not be regularly checking my inbox and answering asks, or maintaining my social media.
My inbox remains open, but it will take me a while to answer. The ask guidelines have been updated; please take a look at them before sending in an ask. In brief:
I am not currently accepting asks asking for help with writing, Twine, coding, or interactive fiction design. Any asks requesting help sent during my hiatus will be deleted.
I am not giving public gameplay guides or walkthroughs. If you need help triggering a specific scene or outcome, ask your fellow players!
✦ ITCH.IO COMMUNITY
Wayfarer now has a community forum on itch.io! This is located at the bottom of the page (where comments used to be). The forum is moderated and you are welcome to use it to discuss the game.
✦ PATREON
This month there will be a lore extravaganza on my Patreon! Every week I will be publishing two lore posts on Episode 2 characters, alongside with previews of Episode 3. There is also a character sheet template for Wayfarer MCs.
These resources are exclusive to Patreon and are available to patrons of all tiers.
✦ 100,000 Browser Plays
Earlier in June, Wayfarer reached 100k browser plays! This is incredible and I cannot express how touched and thrilled I am that the game has reached this many people. Thank you so much to everyone who has played the game. 💕
Tumblr media
✦ THE PUBLIC BUILD [VERSION 1.1.2. Patch 2.0]
Episode 2 was released on July 1st. You can read about the episode release here. A few important points:
The whole game (Prologue, Episode 1, and Episode 2) is 927k of total cumulative content. An average playthrough is approximately 156k, or around 8.5. hours of gameplay.
If your save file is from September 2021, you MUST start a new file.
Launch the game from a fresh tab or window (if you keep the game running in a tab over multiple days, you will not be playing on the newest file)
Do not launch the game in incognito mode
If you encounter errors at launch or issues with saves, please read Troubleshooting Game Launch & Save Errors
Use Save to Disk to save to your device rather than your browser. This will prevent save data loss if your browser clears its history and you lose your browser saves.
Bugs can be reported through the form here. They will not be addressed until August. Please do not submit bugs through my tumblr askbox.
If you missed it, Patch 1.7. added the ability to change your pronouns during the game. See this post for more info.
✦ THE ALPHA BUILD [VERSION 1.1.2. Patch 2.0.]
The alpha build currently contains the same material as the public build. There will be no new content added to the alpha until August.
Episode 3 is in development and is currently around 66,000 words. There is no Episode 3 content in the alpha build yet.

Hi Disco Elysium fandom! If y'all have noticed me and a small group of other users here adding image descriptions (IDs) to your posts, and if you want to know more about why, then I have some relevant information for you here! Namely that:
The ultimate goal of those adding IDs is for as many people as possible to include image descriptions in their original posts!
I'm gonna get into the details of image descriptions (like how and why to write and reblog them) down below, but I just want to state some things from the get-go:
A post that's accessible from the start is much better than one that's only accessible in the notes. Ideally, accessibility should be included in the original post. That way, blind and other disabled people don’t need to go searching for content they can access. It is everybody's responsibility to foster an accessible and inclusive environment! That's the only way it's even possible, actually.
Also, there are far too many new posts in the Disco Elysium tag every day for a small number of people to describe them all. It's great that there's so much new content every day! But a good 98% of it is completely inaccessible, and - considering there's less than 10 of us who are regularly writing image descriptions in this fandom - it is simply impossible for us to keep up with it all. Even if someone has described your posts in the past, that does not mean you can assume that they’ll definitely describe the next post you make (not without directly asking, at least).
This is why it's important to 1) write your own image descriptions and 2) if someone else writes an ID for your post, edit it into the original post itself instead of just reblogging it (no credit is necessary).
If you want any help writing IDs (including if you want to ask someone to just write the whole thing for you), there is a (non-fandom-specific, accessibility-focused) discord server for that! Here is the link to join the server. It is very active, and I have used it myself for help with tricky IDs many times and gotten pretty quick responses.
Now, on to actually talking about image descriptions themselves! I promise, they're not as difficult or time-consuming as you may think. And I swear to you, fanartists - people will still reblog your art with a description. They're not ugly or taking up too much space. I have some great examples at the end!
Why write image descriptions?
Image descriptions explain what an image is of for people who would otherwise not be able to access it. They are necessary for blind people. Many blind people use a text-to-speech program called a screen reader, which reads text aloud. When it comes across an image, the screen reader will just say "image" and the user will have no idea what it is an image of. IDs are a solution to this problem. After the screen reader says “image,” it will then read the image description aloud. However, not everyone who needs image descriptions uses a screen reader! Some people are low vision and have trouble seeing what's in the image but can still read text visually. Some people have a hard time processing visual information and interpreting what's happening in an image. Some poor and rural people have weak internet connections and images never load. And sometimes the image is of grainy text and it's difficult to read. Image descriptions are a benefit to people in all of these situations.
Can I just use alt text?
Alt text makes the image accessible to people who use screen readers. Someone without a screen reader can also click through to alt text on a desktop browser. However, there is no way to access alt text on tumblr mobile without using a screen reader, and needing to click through to see descriptions is not ideal either. Therefore, alt text is not accessible to everyone who may need an image description. Until tumblr makes alt text easily visible to everyone who wants it, it is always going to be best practice to write an image description under the post as well.
Please use both alt text and an image description in the body of the post.
Can you put the image description under a read more and/or use small/stylized text?
Please don't do this! The small/stylized text is an obvious one. As mentioned earlier, some people who need image descriptions are low vision but do not use a screen reader. Using small or stylized text is obviously a detriment to them. It can also cause eye strain and headaches.
The read more thing is less obvious, and unfortunately something I see fairly often. Imagine for a second that you are a person who needs image descriptions. Now imagine that in order to get the full content of every single post with an image on this website, you had to click through a read more and - on mobile - fully navigate away from your dashboard. Every single time. This wouldn't feel very accessible, would it? And secondary to that, if you ever deactivate, then that ID that you put under the read more becomes completely lost to time.
I promise your description is not too long. Just use plain text and keep it in the main body of the post.
Why should you check the notes for an ID before reblogging an inaccessible post?
You may think that if a post has an ID in the notes, then anyone who needs that ID will just go into the notes to find it themself. However, this runs into the exact same issue as the read more thing: it's straight-up bonkers to expect people who need image descriptions to do this on every single post they come across.
Instead, you can easily start making your blog more accessible by checking the notes yourself and making an effort to spread accessible versions of posts! This is a wonderful way to start making your blog more accessible, especially if you're not someone with the ability to write image descriptions yourself! When you spread an accessible post, then the people who follow you will spread that version too, and it can become more widespread than the version without an ID. The more people do this, the easier it becomes for people needing image descriptions to come across them naturally on their dash!
Checking the notes for an ID is now easier than it has been in the past. In the notes, filter them down to reblogs with "comments only". This should show you an ID if there is one. Unfortunately, on posts with more than about 1000 notes or so, this feature doesn't seem to work as well (and tumblr staff hasn't fixed it since the new notes system was implemented, despite numerous complaints). The ID may not show up even though there is one. You can still scroll through the reblogs sorted down to "comments and tags" to find the image description, though this will take slightly longer. However, even on posts with thousands notes, it usually takes less than 60 seconds.
How do you write an image description?
I promise this part isn't as hard as it seems! I'm gonna link to some posts where people have explained things better than me in just a moment, but I'll just say: Any description is better than none. And even in a super detailed photograph or piece of art, you don't necessarily have to include everything. Zero in on what's most important in order for someone to understand what's going on in the image, and focus on that in your description. Not that you can't include the cool details when they're there! Just try not to get too bogged down in it.
My friend JD has a few very helpful posts about how to write image descriptions that I'm gonna link to here:
How Do I Write Good Image Descriptions?
How to Make Your Art Accessible
I also wanted to link to some great examples of Disco Elysium fanart with IDs written by the OP! Example 1 - by funnywormz Example 2 - by mascindulgence Example 3 - by empress-s
And lastly, I wanted to talk about the most common kind of screenshot in this fandom: dialogue screenshots. I have a very useful Google Doc here where I have compiled every bit of dialogue I have ever transcribed from Disco Elysium screenshots. A lot of the same quotes are very popular, so it's very easy to just ctrl + F and then copy and paste into your image description! And after the almost one year I've been doing this, there's a whole lotta game dialogue in there. If you take a funny screenshot of dialogue from the game that you want to post, there's a good chance you can find what you're looking for in that document!
I'll wrap this up with an example of one of these dialogue screenshots with a description. I make all the names lowercase (despite them being all caps in the game) because screen readers will sometimes read all caps like an acronym and just spell words out. Otherwise, it’s pretty much just a straight transcription of the text in the image.
Tumblr media
[image description: A screenshot of dialogue from the video game Disco Elysium, transcribed below.
You - Look at the perforations.
Damaged Ledger - There are many of them. And they are divided into three separate rows.
You - Tally up the different rows.
Damaged Ledger - The first row has 18 dots.
You - Not bad.
Damaged Ledger - Not bad for what? You don't even know what it means yet. End ID.]
And that's all there is to it. As always, feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions!

choose violence🔥
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
blah blah blah top/bottom is reductive and real people don't fit into such strict yadda yadda rehash of ye olde seme/uke discourse from the naughts anime fandom. anyway saren is a bottom who pretends to be a top for his own sanity because he's already so small and fragile he's regularly mistaken for a child and his friends are feral fucking animals. he's the ringleader of the trio he has to maintain dominance somehow. unfortunately for him both of his fellow coyotes love scrapping for dominance and both of them discover he's really into getting knocked down and made to beg and he's never allowed to live it down ever
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
why do you all want to put garrus and/or shepard in the council seats. or primarch garrus along the same lines. putting any of the squadmates in high authority actually. none of them is suited to politics and the vast majority of them directly state "i hate politics i do not want to be in charge i want to go home and retire and not be bothered for 50 years" especially garrus since i specified him. yeah ik putting shepard there is usually a "lol fuck the council imma wreck shit" thing because for a fandom of mostly 25+yos everyone here is incredibly childish but there also is just a lot of people who seem to genuinely think garrus/shepard/tali/kaidan/etc are the actual best choice for being in charge. none of you know anything about civics and that is why your xenopolitics takes are all completely rancid prelude to war speedruns
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
i have no shame i like what i like, this is already niche central already fuck it no gods no masters.
if i MUST say something. i suppose given [gestures vaguely to entire internet presence] there's probably something to be said for how i also enjoy dabbling in aus or simply "yeah teia's chill with sharing as long as she's still top dog" screwing around with pairing sparky with other characters, specifically his fellow old turians in authority. sparatus/quentius is a perennial favorite and is sneaking its way into a spirian + quentilea (ierian/teia + quentius/nautilea) platonic polypile with benefits all 4 of them just because i love sparky and quenty's dynamic with each other as boss and dragon flipping to besties outside work. sparatus/corinthus i also sometimes entertain. and ofc sparatus/desolas which i still have an ask for somewhere in the hellscape of my unanswered ask backlog and lives rent-free in my head. i just think sparky has potential to have some fun and interesting dynamics with a lot of his fellow Old Turians In Authority it's not a crime to have a canon/oc ship but also dabble on the side

Ommmmg a vday event! I’m so excited to see everything you do! I love all your writing! ❤️
May I pleeease request some smutty Gohan + 💜💘 with something starting as something casual that turns into realizing feelings?

Your expression is tellin' me that you've been thinkin' the same thing. - "So Anxious"
Your phone appeared to buzz every minute. You could barely put it down long enough to finish up the remaining tasks around your home. Seeing the little nickname pop in your notifications compelled you to check what came through, a light smile reflected in your features for each message. Even without looking at his face you can see the fluster in his replies and hear that clumsy tone, the ability to still bring that out of him continues to make you eager for his arrival. The invitation was long overdue from your usual get-togethers but you can't compete with aliens coming to try to destroy the world or, god forbid, a book signing with a favored entomology professor.
You could argue he was using your home for the better internet service you got here in the city and teased him for it regularly, but it was a mutual exploitation by now and that was the last thing you would hold against him. Just another benefit of being friends. Gohan has been nothing but a kind spirit since you met him back when you were both in high school. He had his awkward moments, but he naturally grew on you and like a lot of high school friends it was lost in the time after. Though, growing up to end up inviting him over to fuck you regularly was definitely the last expectation you had in rekindling your friendship. You just happened to run into him one day while out and just like back then, Gohan naturally grew on you all over again. Every bit as awkward as you remembered, but it was endearing of him to remind you of those good times.
Friendly, platonic gestures turned to curious what-ifs that divulged into the casual attraction you held toward him now.
You continued to make your home cozy, stumbling across things that belonged to him left from previous visits. By now you simply stored them with your own things to prevent them from getting lost as you tidied up. Gohan let himself in when he arrived, announcing his presence as he stumbled through the threshold with his hands full. A couple of books tucked under one hand and his laptop bag and overstuffed duffle bag, draped around his body, secured with the other, looking overprepared for a night you envisioned none of those items being needed. You sense he may try to "cute" his way into staying a little longer for your wifi as usual but that was part of the deal. You met him halfway and helped take a few things off his hands as he immediately started to catch you up since the last time he was here.
The lighter his load became you noticed something different about his figure. The outfit wasn't anything you hadn't seen before but Gohan typically wore clothing that fit loosely around him. Doing his actual physique a great disservice, however you couldn't help but linger on the cling of his layers to the muscles underneath.
You grinned at the slight bit of skin revealed when he pulled the straps of his luggage over his head. "Have you been working out?"
"A little, yeah. Just uh...trying to keep in shape, is all." Gohan sheepishly laughed. Another hint of the exciting part about who he really is you only get in bits and pieces, but the less you knew the safer you felt about the world, and you took comfort knowing Gohan was around to beat back anything looking to disrupt that.
"Oh? Sedentary life starting to get to ya?" You cooed playfully running your hands up his side as he flinched making you laugh, still ticklish with all these formed muscles. But you wanted more than just to flirt and tickle whereas Gohan just seemed more interested in catching up with you as he made himself at home. He was coming off as trying to be a gentleman about your arrangements and not seeming too eager to jump into it but you weren't having it, not when he's been intimate with you for a while now. And not when he's been improving that hot body of his and getting you excited about it!
You took the initiative and decided on a bold move. You waited for Gohan to head to your bedroom to set up his laptop as he went on about a webinar he wanted to participate in, coming back to the living room to find you in your matching bra and panties posed with the condom you fished from his bag between your lips. You caught him like a deer in headlights, stunned silent with bright eyes wide behind his glasses and face filling with color. You were thrilled again that you could still have this effect on a man who can turn your legs to jelly. And capable of so much more if you let him. You motioned him closer with a finger and like an obedient, enchanted thing he moves towards you where you pulled him in further by his shirt.
As you started to lift it off, your eyes lowered to take in the defined sculpt of his waist leading to his prominent abs. You can't imagine what feats of labor help to keep a body like Gohan's in shape but you're grateful for it. You couldn't resist filling your hands with his exposed chest and smoothing his torso over when he took over stripping himself, your gaze consuming all that was revealed of his upper body up to his naked eyes when he removed his glasses as well. Emboldened by your admiring hands, Gohan slips the condom from your lips and you feel the shift in his posture, sparking a smirk between you at what was to come next.
You briefly played with each other, warming up as the remainder of clothing was shed. Widening your legs, you worked yourself onto his cock when the anticipation grew too much and held him by the small of his back to roll your hips into him. Even with being used to handling his size, you had to pace yourself taking all of him in. But that was only the start. Once Gohan fell into your rhythm, he pressed you back against the flat surface and held one of your legs around him to set his own pace. When your luscious gasps filled his ears he answered by snapping his hips into yours until your voice broke free from your throat. A thankful plea for more as you grew closer and closer and wrapped your other leg around him. Gohan leans further on top of you, groaning into the skin of your shoulder at the pulse of your insides around him.
The first wave of your orgasm around his sensitive cock tended to make him cum with you but not this time. Gohan slowed in response, worked you through it with even, long thrusts meeting each flex around him and his tip kissing at the sensitive button inside over and over the deeper his movements could go. Then he drove into you with strong, quicker thrusts, rutting into your body with a focused possession. Your hands frantically grabbed what they could find whether pulling at the surface around you or digging in the taut flesh of his body to brace yourself under the pleasure coursing in your body. His mind filled with the hefty desire to leave your insides hot with his own essences, but under the squeeze of your stimulated nerves only able to fill the condom instead.
He wasn't done just yet and you were prepared to satisfy all of his needs. You secure your legs around Gohan as he lifts you to hold against him. He walks over to his bag and takes out another condom before carrying you to your bedroom to continue your playdate. Here, he could really get into you the way he wanted. Gohan lies you on the bed and uses the weight of his own body to pin you down and push your legs back. He can lock your hands in his own for a while and touch his forehead to yours as you moaned to each other. Then he kisses you, the frail sound of his pleasure meeting yours and he melts into the warmth of your mouth when you involved your tongue. It only seems complete when he has to let go of your hands to not hurt you and rattles your headboard under his grip instead while you desperately pull yourself into his thrusts. Watching you arch and swear in bliss beneath him couldn't compare to his other great appreciations for you.
How you made this seem so easy where he was originally apprehensive of the less traditional approach to sex amazes him every time he's with you, he just doesn't want to come off as being the only reason he shows up for you. Gohan almost wishes he was more enlightened at the start of your friendship so he didn't feel so inexperienced most of the time but your praises through every session keep him convinced to just go with the flow and it'll be alright. And you will be beautiful. Feeling your limbs tangle around him while you melt under each other's heat makes him want to linger in this single existence. The nature of your friendship was uncommon from those he's had before, so warm and comforting until you pull away from each other and then it mimics what he's used to. He feels in his heart he wants to trust you with more without interrupting the delicate balance, but perhaps it was how this was supposed to be between friends who weren't dating.
After getting comfy in your bed, you both just picked up on where you left off in catching up with each other.
"So you were telling me about this girl you like."
"M-Me, like? Did I say that?" Gohan blinked his brights eyes, confused.
"It's implied." You teased playfully.
"No, no she's nice, I mean- she has to be to ask to treat me for ice cream. But I don't think I want to date her or anything like that. I-It's nothing against her of course, anyone would be lucky to date her- I'm just too busy for that." He tried to explain, thoughtfully scratching at his head.
You laugh a little and turned further on your side to face him. "Yeah, yeah. I've heard the story. Just like Erasa and Videl. You really got 'em falling at your feet, Gohan. And you won't be busy forever." You pointed out, Gohan answering with a modest laugh and a shrug. "Fine, have it your way. By the way, that new buffet place up the block is about to open up soon."
"That's great! When are we going?" Gohan cheerfully asks you. You blinked at him, then sit up as you held your blanket against your chest. You assumed he wanted to be nearby when it opened up and since you lived so close he would want to hang around your home.
"Oh, you don't have to wait for me to try it out, Gohan. Hey, maybe you can take that coworker." You encouraged, nudging his chest with your elbow and wiggling your brow at him. Gohan sits up beside you, taking what you implied and giving you an odd look for it.
"What are you talking about, of course I'll go with you. We've been waiting for weeks for their grand opening." He insisted, excitingly clenching his fists in front of him. "It'll be fun!" Before you could open your mouth, Gohan swung himself around toward his laptop and you hear him type at the keys rather quickly. Then he turned back to you with the laptop in his hands to share the display and directed your eyes with his finger tapping at the screen. "I just looked it up, the grand opening's on Valentine's Day and it says there's a special discount for couples."
"O-Oh. Valentine's day." You stiffly replied, your eyes flicking between the colorful webpage and Gohan before settling on him. "So... You would make time to go with me?"
"Yeah, definitely." He casually answered and nodded his head without hesitation. Gohan set this laptop down and cuffed his own chin in thought. "If it makes it easier, I could probably come over the night before and breeze through all my assigned tasks while I'm here. If I focus myself at least, then we can walk over together the next day and be there before it opens. Does that work for you?" He lowers his eyes to you and your bewildered expression.
It didn't all add up right away as Gohan, not five minutes before getting to that conclusion, implied dates were not in his schedule. But in the spur of the moment he could run through a plan to ensure he would be with you on Valentine's Day? As a couple? That is a date.
"Please (Y/N). I can't imagine going there with anyone else!" Gohan pleaded when you didn't answer right away, the delivery punctuated by the puppy dog look in his eyes. Then it all came to you at once, your heart skipping over in your chest. You pursed your lips trying to contain your grin.

it really just seems like tumblr is not an affirming place for you and only makes your mood tank.
I think you would really benefit from a hobby you can do in a physical space with other people. It will do a lot of good for you to get out of the house and be around others rather than stay in a self perpetuating spiral of loneliness at the house. See what sort of events your library hosts etc.
Look into your local community to find others and keep an open mind. Yes its going to be hard and anxiety inducing at first but it gets easier each time you push yourself out of the comfort zone of your home/internet space. Its really hard work but you can do it!
Theres a very limited amount of help complete strangers online can offer, you need to start helping yourself.
Also please don't dismiss this as not offering a solution, because I am an internet stranger taking time out of my day to type this and try to help you. An F/O ask/comment isnt a healthy longterm solution to depression, its a momentary boost in serotonin that is gone almost immediately and only serves to fuel your depression. You have to at a certain point realize that some things you seek only make your issues worse and you need to try other things to help yourself.
I'd love to truly, but the hard part with that is. I don't drive. Like I've wanted to get involved with community stuff, especially theatre, for awhile, but I'm still working on getting my permit and overcoming the STRESS I have around driving. (I can control a car very well, I was almost a natural, but seeing other cards gives me panic attacks that cause me to disassociate).
The bus system here ain't great, shit schedule and buses constantly cancel randomly. Uber is way to expensive for me to regularly take for say. Rehearsals which will probably be almost daily. There isn't even a library on the only accessible bus route (which I have to trek up a hill for and even when I have my cane is difficult) and can I just say that's uh. Infuriating I feel like that should be a thing that is just. Default.
I'm rlly in the situation of suburban life being SO FUCKING UNFRIENDLY if you don't/can't drive. Bc I'd love to get out and do stuff. There's so much stuff I wanna do but I literally can't bc Im at the shitty mercy of so many shitty variables.
And like... Yeah the f/o asks won't cure my depression that's why I'm getting back into therapy. But it would be nice to like. Not have to deal with the 50 hours a week of being home alone + not even having someone to send me just a message online, even a simple one
I'm hoping that now that I have a job again and the hours are pretty good (tho. Opposite of hubby's which is gonna SUCK but not a lot of overnight stuff is hiring rn) I'll be. Better. Its really been the five straight months of being locked in my room that caused. This mess I'm in. I tend to make friends pretty easily at work and from what I've seen of kitchen staff in general working multiple restaurant jobs it's always a fun time w them shskdhd
I do appreciate it I just. God. Trying to find local community when you can't drive and have a shit bus line sucks lol.

Kicking it Old School
Alright, so the (American) government being the asshole it is, they got mad that we did the things that we have written into the constitution, namely community organizing and using our right to free speech and assembly to voice decent to the existing genocide occurring in Palestine, opposing the misuse of our tax dollars to fund said genocide, and point out that while they can not be bothered to reach across the aisle on any other issue that would benefit Americans, namely utilizing those billions and in some case TRILLIONS of tax dollars to provide help to struggling people in our country, they could agree to attempt to silence the millions of voices across the nation for their use of a platform that was developed outside of the country because of a hypothetical fear that they manufactured of a foreign nation doing the thing that American made social media platforms (including big t that I'm posting from right now) are already doing. Even though the data is housed locally for American users by an American company. Even though the tenuous "fear" they have is that the parent company of Tiktok, Byte Dance, which is located in China, has no direct control over Tiktok itself, which is based in Singapore, an entirely separate country that the Chinese Government does not have sway over (Just a reminder for Senator Cotton, the ignorant racist who refused to listen to the information provided by the CEO of Tiktok, a Singaporian National).
So the manufactured fear has allowed them to oppose a vast network of community organization, with no real enforcement to be had, which is a not so polite reminder that VPN's exist, and can be used to evade all of this. But regardless, not everyone is going to be able to afford the VPN option, and there should be a free option for community organization. So here we are, coming back to our roots, the OG, the classic, rebirth of the 2010's era, the tumblr blog has returned. I deleted my original tumblr years ago. I'm a public person, to the point that my own home is highly visible, albeit a bit tedious to watch since the one space people can see in to is where I sleep and watch tv. But being that my content was always intended to be humerous, if a bit jaded and dark, I figure now is the time to use my extensive talents and creative skills start doing something that I've wanted to do for years. If this takes off, I might transition to a full time hosted blog, but I'm a fan of grass roots starting points, and truthfully, there's not much more grass roots than tumblr. Additionally, the tools and skills of the trade for podcasting are available to me as well, and I'm not opposed to it, since I already knowledgable in the creation, and I could easily do things with it. Who knows, maybe this is the start of my full time professional career, but who knows. Regardless, I'm going to list a few things you can expect from me on my page moving forward. - Anime content
LOOOOOVE me some Anime. I don't interact a ton with the fandoms, mostly because there are some super questionable and problematic ideas (ships) floating around the internet. That being the case, I'll mostly talk about the ones I love most, namely One Piece, because I live for the display of leftist rhetoric and dispensation of Justice and Joyboy Wonder that is Luffy and his crew.
-Politics
I'm more than a little comfortable discussing politics. I've been involved as a volunteer lobbyist in the past, and I engage with and regularly review content revolving around national and international politics, and I think it's important to not avoid discussing it. My takes will not always be perfect, but I generally center them around the ideas that people should always come before companies, and people can generally make decisions for themselves regarding self identity and bodily autonomy. Science will never be political to me, and regardless of my personal religious beliefs, science will make the decisions for me regarding health and wellness.
-Tea
I am a lover of all things tea. I have a talent I have developed for a while now, of making home brewed loose leaf tea, and I enjoy sharing that knowledge and information with others. Tea is very much a special interest for me, on par with One Piece and Minecraft. So you will definitely see stuff like tea recipes and resources from me regularly. I have for some time now had a dream of owning my own tea shop, and I will absolutely achieve that some day. And yes, my love of this stems from my love of Uncle Iroh.
-Cats and Animals in General
I have two cats, Shadow, who is pictured in my current PFP, and Poppie, the gremlin boy. I intend to someday have a service dog again, and when that happens, you will be introduced to said dog, but for now, it's me and my demons. I have this desire to have a small plot of land with a few farm animals to watch over, namely a few hens for eggs, maybe a mini-cow or some goats to produce fertilizer, but also I want live in the middle of the woods, so like, who knows how that will shake out. I'm a four seasons kind of person, and northern woods tend to have that. That is for the future to decide, but for now, it's just me and my cats.
-Lifestyle stuff
The category is broad, but includes all kinds of things. Home tech, cooking, discussions on queerness, and life tips and advice. I tend to write some of these from the perspective of me to my past self, telling things I wish I had known then that I know now.
-Music
Less focused on it's discussion, and more on presentation. I have a decently expansive taste, that only really excludes modern pop country, which I view as terrible. That said, old country, such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and the like, are among some of my favorites. That said, I'm also a hiphop head, and I've been to more underground rap shows than any other type of live show. -Mental Health
I'm mentally ill. I have been diagnosed with three separate mental health disorders, as well as ADD, and although I have never been officially tested, I am more than likely on the Autism Spectrum. I have lived a rather colorful life full of interesting choices, and I was not always given the grace I needed to grow. So from time to time, I'll have things to say on mental health. I'm not one to answer questions for others about their own mental health, because I know this is something that needs to be handled by professionals, but I will always do my best to be up front and honest, because I hate the idea that the stigma of mental health problems would prevent someone from living a full life.
I am looking forward to this. If things on tiktok continue, I'm still going to try to be active on tumblr, because diversifying your engagement can be beneficial. If you want more info about me, check out my other pages, including my link tree.
Stay safe everyone.
