Plague Ponies - In the Orchard
CONTENT WARNING: violence, blood

Summary:
While Twilight goes to speak with Granny Smith, Pinkie Pie stays behind with Applejack to help out with apple bucking! With Big Mac not feeling at his best, Applejack sure is glad for the Pinkie and her unorthodox apple bucking strategy, although it seems a little dangerous to keep at it while Pinkie’s Pinkie sense keeps going off.
Lucky for them, they don’t have to wait much longer for the doozy! It’s arrived in the form of Nurse Sweetheart, and although she’s here to check up on Big Mac, she seems unwell herself. Applejack recognizes the symptoms of rabies due to some firsthoof experience, and sends Pinkie away to grab back up.
When Pinkie arrives with reinforcements in the form of Big Mac, it seems that they disagree with Applejack’s method of trying to handle things…no time for them to talk it out, however, as Nurse Sweetheart gets away in the confusion, running off in the direction of the barn.
Transcript below:
Applejack: I really appreciate your help, Pinkie! I can’t say I’ve ever seen anypony buck like you.
Pinkie Pie jumps from one apple tree to another, shaking each one and dropping the apples in the waiting buckets below.
Pinkie Pie: Hehehe! We should harvest apples together every year!
Applejack: I’d love to see you teach Big Mac your way of doing things!
Pinkie Pie: It’s too bad he’s sick (frowny face)
Applejack: We told him to take it easy, but you know how he is.
Pinkie Pie: He is your brother! Hard-headedness must be an Apple trait!
Applejack: Hey now—
Pinkie Pie: WaAAaAH
Pinkie Pie shakes uncontrollably, her Pinkie sense going wild.
Applejack: Pinkie?! Maybe we should head inside…I don’t think this is safe.
Pinkie Pie: Good idea…huh? Applejack, did you call a nurse for Big Mac?
Applejack: Huh? We did, but she’s s’posed to come tomorrow—
Applejack is interrupted as Pinkie grabs her with her tail and YOINKs Applejack up into a tree.
Applejack: I thought we agreed to get out of the tree?
Pinkie Pie: Shh! Agreement changed!
Applejack: What—
Pinkie Pie: Look down!!!
Applejack: Is it the doozy?
Pinkie Pie: Yes! Now hush!
Applejack and Pinkie Pie watch from above as a lilac pony wanders towards them through the orchard.
Applejack (whispering): Pinkie, that’s Nurse Sweetheart. Where’s the doozy?
Pinkie Pie (whispering): I—I don’t know, something just doesn’t feel right!
Applejack (whispering): If the doozy’s so close, shouldn’t we warn her?
Pinkie Pie: What if I said I think…she is the doozy?!
Nurse Sweetheart quietly mumbles to herself, repeating, “hello?” “hello?”.
Applejack: What? Is the doozy her mixing up the day of the appointment? They must have just mixed things up at the hospital. They’ve been busy—
Pinkie Pie: SHHH!! She’ll hear you!
Nurse Sweetheart: Hello, I’m nurse Sweetheart. It’s time for your check-up
Nurse Sweetheart continues to repeat herself over and over, the order of her words jumbling together and over one another.
Applejack: Pinkie…
Pinkie Pie: Yeah?
Applejack: Go get Big Mac.
Pinkie Pie: But—
Applejack: I’ll stay right here, just go. Tell him it’s rabies. He’ll know it’s an emergency.
Pinkie Pie: I’m on it. Don’t move. Sit tight! We’ll be back before you can say aAAAA!!!
Applejack: Don’t worry, Pinkie.
Applejack speaks quietly, mostly to herself, remembering something.
Applejack: I’m not going anywhere.
As Pinkie bounces away from tree to tree to get Big Mac, Applejack continues to look down at nurse Sweetheart. Not having received a response, the nurse has returned to repeating “hello” to herself again.
Still receiving no answer, nurse Sweetheart grows more agitated.
Nurse Sweetheart: Hello? You called me. I can help. Hello? Let me help you, please, let me…please, you need to let me…help…please…
Applejack continues to watch with unfocused eyes. The pony she’s seeing isn’t nurse sweetheart. All she can see is a pale yellow mare with orange curls.
???: Help
???: It hurts
???: Applejack?
Pinkie Pie and Big Mac are jumping from tree to tree to get back to Applejack’s location.
Pinkie Pie: You’re really good at this, Big Mac! On any other day, this would be so fun!
Big Mac: Yup…
Pinkie Pie: We might even make it back before anything happens!
Big Mac: Uh…nope.
Applejack is on the ground with nurse Sweetheart, attempting to lasso her.
Pinkie Pie and Big Mac: Applejack!!!
Big Mac: Run, Applejack!
Applejack: Wait—
Big Mac barrels towards nurse Sweetheart and kicks her in the face, breaking her jaw and knocking her away.
Applejack: STOP!
Pinkie Pie holds Applejack back, preventing her from interfering with Big Mac.
Pinkie Pie: Applejack, stop!
Applejack ignores Pinkie Pie, her eyes on Big Mac.
Applejack: Don’t do this again…
Big Mac: Don’t—AUGH
Nurse Sweetheart has gotten back up and stabbed her upper jaw into Big Mac’s leg.
Applejack: How…she should be out cold!
Big Mac: Don’t let her get away!
Nurse Sweetheart’s eyes focus for a moment, and she looks afraid. She tries to speak, she can’t form words with her broken jaw. Confused and agitated, she breaks into a run.
Nurse Sweetheart: Urkh…hrgk..
Applejack: Big Mac, your leg—
Big Mac: She’s getting away.
Pinkie Pie: Twilight! We have to warn Twilight and Applebloom!
Applejack: Big Macintosh, stop right there!
Big Mac promptly goes after nurse Sweetheart.
Big Mac: Nope.
End of transcript.

Super interested in how you plan to write Leopardfoot! I feel like both fanon and canon tend to make her into a sweet mom(tm) who’s super sad that Tigerstar is evil, very similar to how Goldenflower is usually treated. What’s her thoughts on Pinestar and him leaving? How did she influence Tigerstar? What are her political beliefs?
Society has progressed past the need for sad moms who stare tearily at their evil sons and boohoo about all the murder. It's MOTHER AGENCY TIME
BB!Leopardfoot was FEROCIOUS. Her father was the indominable Adderfang, and he taught her about the importance of honor and glory. When Tigerpaw was given to Thistleclaw as an apprentice, she was proud of it. It felt perfect to her-- that her father's apprentice was now her son's mentor.
For his brief rule, she supported Sunstar completely. It helped that he came after the disastrous and embarassing exit of Pinestar, which ruined the legacy that she wanted him to give her son. Pinestar was a damn coward and a codebreaker... and she assured Tigerkit that he was more HER son than his.
She even gives him a life, for Legacy, in defiance of StarClan
She was friends with Bluemoon for a time, but after ascending to StarClan, she learned about the Forget-me-nots.
This changed her opinion of her. Leopardfoot supports Thistle Law, STRONGLY so.
She supported THISTLECLAW when he tried to forcefully void the Queen’s Rights. If Bluemoon hadn't broken the code, then what did she have to hide?
She backed off when Thrushpelt leapt to her defense though, "She didn't reveal it because she doesn't love me are you happy now??"
Leopardfoot: *awkwardly turns away feeling like an asshole now, tea SPILLED, her friend's dirty laundry EXPOSED, thought she was crusading for the law but she just dug up drama*
Towards the end of Pinestar’s reign, he was getting exhausted. He wanted peace. Leopardfoot wanted kittens around that time, and figured that there was no better cat than the son of Oakstar, architect of the infamous Crusade Era.
If Pinestar had no children, a glorious bloodline would have died out. She wanted it for her kits. Pinestar agreed on the condition that he would be their Mi, which she happily accepted.
So when Pinestar left, she jumped into the nursery to take over and had to explain to her kits where their Mi went.
She drove it home to them that he abandoned everything, because his weakness took over. They would never be like him, she promised.
Mistkit died very young. Nightpaw made it to apprenticeship before she also succumbed. Tigerclaw remembers very well how hard it was to lose his sisters.
Leopardfoot herself was taken shortly before TPB, in Spottedleaf's Plague. Her death causes Tigerclaw to have a bit of a moment.
After the trial in Bluestar's Flowers, Leopardfoot leaves StarClan along with a bunch of other Thistle Law supporters, including Thistleclaw himself. She joins the BOTTE at the end of OotS, fighting to the end with her son.
She misses him a lot, and remains in the Dark Forest to the current arc. She chose her path; and has the dignity to walk it.
She does miss StarClan sometimes though, and will tell you stories about it if you ask.
In terms of demon friends, she's somewhere in the clique between the harsher and softer spirits.
She dislikes Morningstar, Cloudberry, and Ryewhisker on the softer end, and has come to resent Thistleclaw and Finchflight on the other, but likes Darkstripe, Leopardstar, and Silverhawk.
Gets along with a range of "mid" level demons.
In particular I imagine she hangs out with Darkstripe a lot. Taste test buddy, he asks her to try his experimental recipes because she's honest but not mean. One of the few Thistle Law supporting cats he hangs out with after the double-death of Tigerstar.
He calls her Lefty. Her official nickname is "Left" but he calls her Lefty.
(Clanmew: her name is Saorpwyyar. Others call her Saopr. He calls her Sapyy.)
Her mom and dad Swiftbreeze and Adderfang are here too, following Thistleclaw like she did, but she's been minimizing her contact with her dad. She feels like she is owed an apology somehow but also doesn't have the emotional intelligence to know that it's what she wants.
She just knows that she feels really bitter talking to him, and that's unpleasant.
She used to be VITRIOLIC with Pinestar, who is also here, even going after him physically when he chose to join in with the Dark Forest trainees. But now... honestly so much shit has happened, she just doesn't like seeing him. She wishes he wasn't here.
I write her being very dignified. She doesn't like to admit publically she was ever wrong and speaks with confidence, quietly backing off and not wanting to speak about her mistakes. She loves her children and her family, but explores the world in a very "self-centric" way, trusting her feelings and personal judgement over anything logical.
A reactionary sort of person, if that makes sense.
Her Land Mar has to develop over time because she is an ex-StarClan migrant (damned souls get theirs instantly after judgement), but it's called the Fence Cliff. It's a picket fence that blocks off a sheer drop, making a sharp turn down the cliff face and acting as a walkway. Follow the fence down the slope, and you can access the Dark Forest's town biome.

The art is lovely and now I'm gonna ramble because that's what I do when I care about something.
For the love of women, please PLEASE can fan artists remember to add muscle to their Shadowhunter ladies? I'll commend Bowater for cleverly giving James that sculpted and lean look without making him a beefcake (nothing against beefcakes, I'd love to hug them), but Cordelia is once again suffering from Arms And Shoulders Too Slender It's Hard To Even Imagine Her Picking Up A Sword. There is some there, yes, but artists shouldn't be afraid of giving particularly Female Main Characters weight and toned muscle. Cordelia is supposed to be nearly the same height as James as far as I can remember, and she's curvy, and full, and she wields a sword like it's second nature to her. Please explain why she looks so tiny in James' lap.
Also I'm pretty sure marriage runes are supposed to go over the heart whenever possible (thinking about Will's parabatai rune being over his heart instead -- he didn't get Tessa to draw over the scar, did he??) and... either I'm looking at the picture wrong or James' rune is not over where his heart should be.
For the matter, where are their other runes and scars?? James' Voyance rune isn't even on his hand. And I'm pretty sure he's right handed. I could have that wrong though.
Another thing: no one can ever decide what Cordelia's hair looks like and it's the funniest thing to me. This is what happens when all you do is vaguely say the colour is like fire but also like rose petals but also a flowing river of those things but also is Red (probably for redhead, but then from there I never understand where the rose petal analogy comes from considering the typical rose is a deep bloody colour -- I do acknowledge the existence of those light orange varieties though which might more closely resemble red hair). In the end, I'm glad readers can infer what they want and imagine the characters how they like.
Anyone else think James looks like he's built like a tennis player? Oddly specific, maybe, but it was a thought I had. Mostly the arms and somewhat narrow body.
James' hair is nice, his eyes are an interesting take on gold in the shadows. Bowater managed to also make him look closely related to his father, so bravo for that.
In the end, the focus is obviously on the marriage runes and not other physical aspects outside of it being clear that this is James and Cordelia. Bowater's style is very beautiful and elegant. Love the way fabric and lighting is done too. I'll add also that it is possible to be a smaller person who is slender but still strong so I mean Cordelia's not necessarily done wrong, I just interpret her appearance differently. Obviously, they're both hot and they're both attractive and I have my qualms with the series, chronicles, and author -- the fandom I am so-so on, though I'm still here, aren't I? And I'm taking the time to ramble about my thoughts on a piece of fanart -- but this is good. Gorgeous, even. Both James and Cordelia are beautiful.

Hawks x reader
"Stay with me tonight."
"No." His smile was soft and his words held no malice.
"And why not?" You huffed.
"Because, you're drunk. And sober you would never want me to stay in the same room as you, let alone the same bed." He stood up from where he was sitting on the edge of the bed.
"But what if," you reached out and carefully held his hand, "what if sober me wanted you to stay?"
He looked down at you with a twinkle in his eye. His smile made you melt, but you weren't sure if the alcohol coursing through your body was the cause of it.
"Then I guess you'll just have to ask me tomorrow when you're sober," he said, amusement glossing over his words.
"Keigo, I-"
He pulled the covers up over your face before you could finish talking. He laughed to himself as you struggled to get the blanket off of your head.
"If you keep scrunching your face, it'll get stuck like that."
"You lie!"
"I'm serious! I've seen it happen before. Poor thing couldn't get their face back to normal. Really tragic."
"Hmph, you've never been serious about anything ever."
He tapped his chin as he looked at you. He was soon leaning over you, his face inches from yours.
"Okay, I'll show you that I'm serious. I'll stay with you..."
A smile began to crack through your grumpy facade.
"...tomorrow night, after you've asked me when you're sober."
In the blink of an eye, he was by the door and shut the lights off.
"Good night, ______. I'll see you in the morning."
You could hear the victory in his voice, his stupid smile flashing in your mind as he closed the door.
He won't let you confess to him drunk; he never has and he never will. He waits patiently for you to confess your feelings for him when you're sober. Because he wants to make sure your words are true, and that you are saying them because you're ready to say them. For his sake, he hopes you do it soon. He doesn't want to have to be the first to admit that the feelings you share are mutual.
