#psychic damage from dean winchesters life

you know how one of the few banger episodes of s7 was the one where they saddled Dean Winchester with the teenage daughter of a missing hunter and made him lose his entire shit when confronted with how young she was to be inviting herself along on such a sketchy and dangerous case? and also, you know, the inherent horror and obnoxiousness and agonizing half-inexperience of Being Fifteen. and then just let him marinate in the psychic damage of finally glimpsing a mirror he wanted to protect from the life he lived instead of smash to smithereens
.......yeah i think SPN should've done a child vampire episode. and made it all about the deep deep uncanniness of a ten-year-old saddled with this violent misshapen shadow version of an adult's life experience. maybe just for spice toss in something about living into chronological adulthood but not being able to shake the weirdness of missed/mismatched development and aspects of the self that are still frozen in time? like, we are NOT talking IWTV Claudia being rightfully furious she can't fuck, we're talking decades spent on this godforsaken earth with the impulse control of a fifth-grader.
and, crucially, AVOID belaboring the metaphor about kids forced to grow up too fast. just stick Dean in front of the funhouse mirror and watch him bark at his own reflection in horrified semi-awareness.

So I either forgot or never caught it the first time around (or maybe it was retconned later on when Dean and Tessa reminisce together) but the fact Dean doesn’t remember his time as a ghost in 2.01 is actually a blessing because if Dean Fucking Winchester had any recollection of begging his dad to care about him and do something to save him and then have him immediately unsubscribe from life about it it’d have truly taken him out at the knees. Irreversible psychic damage. It’d have been him and not Sam in the mental hospital.

Who is Jared Padalecki an Incarnation of?
Hello, my name is Ellie. I am a psychic who mainly does divination work with a pendulum and printable ABC charts so I can get messages from deities, faye, and other benevolent beings. A lot of the information I get comes from my divination work. I've worked with several deities and have asked all of them to prove they are who they are (and when it's really them speaking and not an imposter). In this post, I am going to reveal the deity the actor Jared Padalecki is an incarnation of. For a brief overview, Jared Padalecki is best known for playing Sam Winchester in the CW series "Supernatural". Some of his other roles include Clay Miller in "Friday the 13th" (2009), Dean Forester in "Gilmore Girls, Davis in "Flight of the Phoenix" (2004), Cordell Walker in "Walker" (2021-2023), Wade in "House of Wax" (2005), and Trey Lipton in "New York Minute" (2004).
So who is Jared Padalecki an incarnation of? Jared Padalecki is the main Earth incarnation aka soul (or what I call the soul original of) of the Greek deity Poseidon aka Neptune in the Roman pantheon. If you have not done so already, I encourage you to read another post of mine where I discuss in greater detail of how incarnations work, so this tidbit about how incarnations work will make better sense to anyone reading this and other celebrity readings I have like this one.
Tumblr media
Poseidon/Neptune in Mythology
Poseidon in Greek mythology is often portrayed as an older man with a trident and dark beard. Sometimes he is portrayed in his chariot which was pulled by a pair of horse like creatures with fish tails called hippocamps. He is the Greek god of the seas, horses, all marine life, rivers, floods, earthquakes, and destruction. His palace, which was located underwater near Aegae in Euboea, is said to have been of coral and gemstones.
There are times in Greek mythology where Poseidon is said to be more submissive to the said leader of the Greek gods Zeus and others where he rebelled against him. At one point prior to the Wall of Troy being built, Poseidon/Neptune joined Zeus' wife Hera and Athena in chaining Zeus up. Eventually Zeus was freed and as punishment for his rebellion, he sent Poseidon/Neptune with Apollo to build the wall of Troy. Ironically, the Greeks eventually built a giant wooden horse they used to sneak into Troy. In this sense, Poseidon was directly responsible for helping build up Troy and also indirectly destroying Troy. Some archaeological evidence does suggest that Troy itself was heavily damaged by an earthquake.
When King Laomedon refused the payment he promised, Poseidon set loose a sea monster to ravage Troy. Because of this, when Zeus permitted the gods to participate in the Trojan war Poseidon would sometimes appear as an elderly seer named Calchas to encourage Greek warriors. When Poseidon and Athena were up for patronship over Athens, Poseidon presented the first horse and a freshwater spring while Athena presented an olive tree. Because the king of Athens selected Athena, Poseidon reacted by bringing drought upon Athens. Poseidon was married to Amphitrite and was said to have had many consorts.
The Romans are said to have taken many Greek deities and essentially adopted new names for each one some of which involving the planets of our solar system (sometimes ignoring certain aspects of Greek mythology in doing so). Poseidon was called Neptune by the Romans, where some aspects of him including his association with horses were ignored. Interestingly enough, a 2 day festival called Neptunalia was celebrated by the Romans around July 23 or 24 when water was said to be the scarcest. Today, it is still celebrated via the Carnival of Awussu annually in Sousee, Tunisia on July 24.
Poseidon/Neptune According to Guidees
In some of my previous posts, I have mentioned that there's some truth that can be found in mythology regarding deities but some tidbits are fictional. In the case of Poseidon/Neptune, how he is portrayed in mythology versus how he really behaves towards those he works with are generally quite different. From going through various forums online and in my personal experience, Poseidon/Neptune has an intense energy at times but also can be rather laidback, reasonable, fatherly, protective, and an overall inspiring deity who helps guidees develop their self esteem.
Generally, he is a very kind and even patient deity to work with that finds a lot of joy in working with those he is a guide for. If you can, get a pendulum he's attached to (especially if it's aquamarine) and an ABC chart to communicate with him. I've also found that he is a very strong seer; in my divination readings with him, he has said many things that have come to pass directly and also hinted at things as well. In my divine hearing (or what you can call "hunches", "random thoughts" or "nudges"), I've heard Poseidon along with other deities "tell" me things that manifested not long from when the "'random' thought" took place. It's been said that Poseidon has a strong personality and makes his message loud and clear in mythology thus his said temperamental personality; in my personal experience, he is also a great communicator when it comes to giving his guidees divine messages as a seer. It's true that there are times his feisty, strong willed and sometimes temperamental personality comes out and can be vengeful when he or those he cares about are done wrong. There is a some truth with regards to Poseidon at times being temperamental and a fighter, especially when it comes to him or those he cares about being wronged.
Some offerings for Poseidon/Neptune include: blue and/or green objects, seashells, water, any marine animal object (especially dolphins), bull or horse objects, wild celery, rain, frankincense, myrrh, or ocean candles or incense, sea salt, white wine, honey, coral, gems (ex. sapphires, aquamarine, turquoise, etc.), starfish or starfish shaped objects, owning pet fish, paying visits to aquariums, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, singing in the shower, nautical home decor, taking baths and thinking about the ocean, working with the Fae/Faye/Fairy kin or himself through divination.
Traits of Poseidon in Jared Padalecki
Jared Padalecki was born on July 19, 1982 in San Antonio, Texas. In the Chinese zodiac, 1982 is Year of the Dog (element water), and in astrology makes Jared a Cancer (crab). Doing a quick Google search, he has made quite a few posts in the past of him either swimming in a pool or at the beach. Jared's favorite colors according to multiple sources is blue and green, which are Poseidon's colors. He also previously took horseback riding lessons in the past. Although he rarely worked with animals on set, he did ride a horse on 1 episode of supernatural and does ride it on the set of "Walker". His wife Genevieve was on a show called "Wildfire". Jared and his wife owned a horse for a couple years while living in Los Angeles, California.
On a very intriguing note while writing this blog post (3/7/2023), I had a strange "hunch" to go research earthquakes. I decided to do a search for any earthquakes that may have occurred on Jared's birthday. My jaw dropped when I found out a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred about 466 miles from Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada at 3:00:07 GMT (translates to 10:00pm EST if this is helpful at all). For those of you who know some things about Supernatural outside of the context of the show, most of the show was filmed in Vancouver. When I picked up my pendulum and ABC chart after this discovery, Poseidon said to me "I communicate with you flawlessly. I told you to do a Google search for earthquakes that happened on Jared's birthday." When I asked him what the significance of this earthquake happening near Vancouver is, Poseidon said "I was saying to the world 'I am Poseidon, and on this day I have been born as Jared Padalecki who will one day rock the spiritual world on a show called Supernatural that will be filmed in Vancouver'".
Tumblr media
Poseidon in Greek mythology was said to be affiliated with earthquakes and other natural disasters, therefore making him associated with destruction. He was said to be a very destructive, vengeful god in Greek mythology who certainly makes it known when he's angry or has been wronged. When it comes to those he guides, he is known for helping them build up self-esteem but does not like to go the path of least resistance. In my case Poseidon/Neptune has greatly helped to improve my intuition, divine hearing, and other psychic related abilities. In this, it can be said he is also a god that helps build up and even rebirth. I like to associate the Phoenix with Poseidon/Neptune for this reason. Jared Padalecki was in a 2004 movie called "Flight of the Phoenix", where he got into a car wreck while it was being filmed. He believed he was dead and kept thinking "I need to call the set and tell them I am dead". Last year in April 2022 he got into another car accident; he walked away thankfully relatively okay physically. As Jensen Ackles put it "it's a miracle he survived".
From what I know about Jared and other Poseidon/Neptune incarnations, they are survivors, fighters (and tend to be victorious). Back in 2007 Now, Poseidon did admit that at the Neptunalia festival during the Roman empire, the Romans did drink a lot and got drunk. Jared Padalecki coincidentally has gotten involved with a couple fights at bars, one while in Canada mentioned in an interview by Jensen Ackles back in 2007 and another in 2019 where he was arrested for assault at a bar he owns (or owned) called Stereotype. Hmm, is this a message talking about stereotypes of Poseidon/Neptune being temperamental and a fighter when angered? On another note, Jared is said to also own or have owned a bar called San Jac Saloon.
Poseidon/Neptune was said to be a temperamental, moody deity. Jared Padalecki himself has admitted in the past that production of Supernatural was shutdown for 5 days after he experienced a mental health breakdown due to depression and anxiety. He has since advocated for mental health and has donated and done work for multiple charities. One notable charity was when he came up with a "Always Keep Fighting" T-shirt campaign for the charity To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) through Represent.com. Interestingly enough, Poseidon/Neptune's chariot was pulled by creatures called Hippocamps. This is similar to the human brain's Hippocampus, which happens to be shaped like a seahorse. The hippocampus in human biology is associated with forming longer term memories, the limbic system (which helps regulate emotional responses and stress reactions), spatial & cognitive processes and navigation. It seems very fitting therefore that Jared Padalecki as a Poseidon/Neptune incarnation is a big advocate for mental health. I did laugh some when I read an article stating he had to call Michael Chad Murray several times when he locked himself out of his place while filming "House of Wax". Memory...
Notes about other Poseidon/Neptune Incarnations
I'm going to be brief in this section as I know this article is about Jared Padalecki. There are some interesting things I noticed that Jared has in common with other Poseidon/Neptune incarnations. One of the other incarnations I know of Poseidon/Neptune's is that the timelines for both of Padalecki's car accidents are eerily similar to this other incarnation I know. I previously dated one of his incarnations for over 5 years got into a car accident within a year or so of Jared's car accident back when he was filming Flight of the Phoenix in 2004 or so that resulted in getting a hip plate and leg rod in his right side. This same man also got into a car accident approximately 1 month and 3ish weeks (first week of March 2022) before Jared got into his car accident in the third or fourth week of April 2022. I myself who is Poseidon/Neptune's only female incarnation (I have several higher selves rolled into 1 soul but that's another discussion) have been involved in 2 minor accidents, although the timelines for mine do not match Padalecki's. Another Poseidon/Neptune incarnation I know was ran into by a car in a parking deck who fled (hit and run) who to this day wears a plate in his back from this accident.
Coincidentally, the other Poseidon/Neptune incarnation whose car accident timelines are similar to those of Jared's was also a bartender for over 10 years. At one point he had ambitions to open a bar or private party bartending company. All of the Poseidon/Neptune incarnations I know of including Jared do like to have fun at bars at the very least, even if they don't necessarily have ambitions to be a business owner. They also all enjoy swimming and happen to favor the color blue. I did laugh some when I read about Jared Padalecki having to call Michael Chad Murray to help unlock his place while filming "House of Wax". I have locked myself out of my house and even car on many occasions with the keys either sitting on the car seat (or one time in the ignition!), or on the countertop or on the key rack in my house. My neighbors have by miracle chance (err, hopefully anyways) not spotted me yet climbing through the window to retrieve my keys on any of these many occasions...
I myself was born in October but the other 2 incarnations I know were born in the month of August and in Jared's case July. However, one thing Jared and I do share in common is that earthquakes were recorded near Vancouver on both of our birthdays. An earthquake of 3 magnitude occurred near Franklin, Washington (which is only 173 miles from Vancouver) on October 23, 1990 at 23:43:04 (6:43pm EST). I was born at 6:28pm near Niagara Falls in the Buffalo, NY area. Bit of an eerie coincidence I am going to write about in another blog post that's about who I myself am an incarnation of.
Message from Poseidon/Neptune for Jared Padalecki
Poseidon/Neptune said that he very much adores Jared on multiple occasions. He said that he is very proud of him for being an advocate for mental health, being a good father and overall a good man. However, he does at times wish Jared would be more outspoken when he is wronged and feels he can be "too nice" in this respect. While he has shown he has a fighter side to him, he is often seen as a "gentle giant" by fans and those who know him best. Poseidon/Neptune wants to speak with Jared more directly, and did say he ought to go horseback riding on the beach sometime...

well. okay. I went and did it. I watched Supernatural season 15 episode 18: Despair.
I now present my thoughts as I had them during the episode, only mildly edited:
Apparently Chuck is already dead?
Also WOW the dialogue is fucking terrible
Okay so Billie betrayed them and I very much dislike that take on her
Also they decided to do on-screen teleportation after FIFTEEN YEARS of keeping it off screen and just like. Wow that's bad
like the off-screen teleporting just added Something to the show that worked really well? and removing it removes one more cool little aesthetic choice and makes everything fall just so much flatter
Okay so Chuck isn't dead he's just disappeared after the winchesters failed to kill him
Charlie! I didn't know she was in this episode
Well, apocalypse!Charlie, but still
I'm not so sure I like the direction they took cas in this season, like he's very very humanized and very casual and while it does make sense for his character I'm still not that much of a fan
Awww Eileen died
Awww brother hug
Heyyyyy, Donna!
Oh please tell me Donna survives.
Once again the dialogue is just really really bad
Wow Bobby looks young
Also he's just not acting like Bobby whatsoever
was Jim Beaver even in this episode?
Okay yeah this is just a bad fuckin episode
All the people from other worlds just got poofed out of existence and it was INCREDIBLY badly written and directed and acted
It's all stuff that's supposed to be "cool" and dramatic and intense but none of it is actually landing
Oh oop I think I'm at The Scene
Nope wait nvm it's Billie trying to kill Dean for coming back from the dead and being a rule breaker and like. Wow everyone really has forgotten that Sam was the original protagonist, huh
Good God the dialogue is HORRIBLE
"don't you think it's finally time for the sweet release" pause "of death?"
like kudos to Billie's actress for at least trying to make that one sound natural but like. damn.
Not sure whether or not the glowy wards thing is new but I'm not hugely a fan, and there's a LOT of it this episode in response to a lot of things and hrmmmmmmmmmm no not liking it
Oh oh here we gooooooo
I did not know Dean had a breakdown beforehand
Oh my god Cas gets himself schlorped deliberately to save dean's life by summoning the empty to get rid of death?
Also wow THAT'S a fucking sentence
Oh my god?
Okay Cas is actually crying wow
This is a really long love confession when Death is actively trying to break down the door to the room they're hiding from her in because she wants to kill Deean
Cas: Extremely long heartfelt speech about how wonderful Dean is Dean: why does this sound like a goodbye? Cas: Because it is. I love you. Dean: don't do this, Cas
OH MY GOD HE REALLY DOES HAVE NO EMOTION ON HIS FACE AT ALL
NONE
NADA
ZILCH
ngl I laughed my fucking head off when Dean gave the line because THE MEMES WERE NOT WRONG THAT MAN DOES NOT GIVE A SINGLE FLYING FUCK ABOUT CAS DUMPING HIS HEART ON THE FLOOR HERE
Also wow that's a hell of a closeup on Misha Collins there
They had the FUCKING NERVE to play Dean's Family Devotion Theme after he watches Cas confess his love to him with a BLANK FUCKING FACE oh my god
And now we get Dean having a surprisingly sedate breakdown
And we don't even get the quiet credits we get the rock credits
Goddamn. Okay. That was awful.
IN CONCLUSION: the... everything ... surrounding the Destiel confession scene aside, this is remarkably bad. The dialogue is terrible, the directing is terrible, the acting is sub-par even from people who are usually pretty damn good (Felicia Day as Charlie very very much feels like she's phoning it in), did I mention the dialogue is terrible? Because it's so bad, and the actual love confession... well, it certainly lives up to everything I've heard about it (and no, I didn't actually see it when I came out because I wasn't interested in this level of psychic damage then). Anyways. Yeah. Bad.

Something about dean being mary and mary being forced by a cupid to fall in love with john and dean performing heterosexuality because of/for john and we dont know how much of mary and john was changed by them being marked by cupid. Did mary even want a normal life before then? Did she want to stop hunting? Did she even like men?
Something about heaven forcing mary to act out their perfect romance but there are still cracks in the facade and dean being forced by his upbringing to act out john's ideal masculinity but there are still cracks. (God is an absent controlling father and john is an absent controlling father and everyone must follow Their orders whether they know it or not).
Something about only being forced to be something you arent because of circumstances you have no control over and you don't even realize that this mask was built until its breaking apart.
(Something about how it was only after mary had been dead that she was able to break free of her assigned role. Something about the only way for dean to break free of the mold chuck-john-dad-god built for him was death)

Practically Magic
Chapter Three: Broom Fell
Tumblr media
Summary: Growing up in the same tiny mountain town, Y/N Owens and Dean Winchester despised each other. The only thing they ever agreed on was their need to escape. Life took them in opposite directions and neither of them ever looked back. So, when their paths cross over a series of gruesome murders in their hometown it was no surprise that old friction heated up again.
Dean never dreamed he’d be teaming up with a psychic, the FBI frowned on that sort of thing, but he was desperate. When that psychic turned out to be Y/N Owens, Dean knew two things for sure. One, Y/N was the real deal and two, he was in real trouble.
Pairing: Agent!Dean x Psychic!Reader, Dean x Reader, AU Dean x You Characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, John Winchester, Bobby Singer
Warnings: Slow Burn, Serial Killer Elements, Witches, Haters to Lovers, Claustrophobic Elements, Murder Scenes
Author’s Notes: This is an AU taking elements from the film Practical Magic and applying them to a fictional world where Dean Winchester is an FBI Agent. You will find parallels from that movie here, some quotes and other elements that capture the essence of the world of the Owens Witches. Hopefully! Additional Author's Notes: This is a unique reader insert story as I have given the reader a physical description including hair color, eye color and body type. Chapter Three: Broom Fell Word Count: 4462
“Broom fell, company’s coming.” - Aunt Jet Owens, Practical Magic
The trick or treat themed event turned deadly when the body of an unidentified woman was discovered by party-goers last Saturday night. Witnesses say that the victim appeared to be frozen and dressed as a bride, making this the third in the series of gristly murders in the Silverton area. Officials have yet to say if this is linked to the murders of Amber McDowell and Sierra Thompson earlier this month but advise all citizens to exercise caution and contact law enforcement immediately if they witness anything suspicious.
You snapped shut your laptop and dropped your head down on the table with a thud and a groan.
“I told you not to watch any more of those talking heads!” Viv called from the great room. “You’re only torturing yourself.”
“I can’t just ignore it, Gran. It happened at my event; I was responsible for bringing everyone together. I agreed to hold it on Samhain.”
“You weren’t the only one who agreed. The whole Owens family was there, if it could have been predicted, it would have been.”
“I should have known. I’m the seer. This is on me.”
“No one can see everything, not even you.” Viv came up behind you and laid a hand on your head. A calming gesture from your childhood, God knows this wasn’t the first time she’d comforted you after something terrible happened.
“Some things are fated, Y/N. Even terrible things.”
“This sucks.”
“True, but obsessing won’t change it. Now quit pouting and come help me.”
You knew you were obsessing but you couldn’t help it and you certainly weren’t the only one. The whole town was buzzing. Every last member of the Owens clan had fled as soon as the authorities cleared them of any involvement. Donna left too, back to Hollywood to do damage control and salvage the dwindling movie interest. There was a group of your more obsessive fans who seemed thrilled at the real-life macabre element. They extended their stay for a month and turned up everywhere. Yesterday, your gran found three of them in the neighbor’s yard with binoculars. She sent them packing with a banishment spell and a visit from Bobby Singer.
The Victorian great room, usually used to receive and entertain guests was filled with a dozen refrigerator sized shipping crates. You swore one of them growled at you as you followed your grandmother through the maze of boxes.
“What the hell is in all these containers?”
“Oh, this and that,” the elder witch replied, digging through her desk drawers for one of her empty ledgers.
“One of them is moving.”
She handed you a crowbar with a smug smile, “Better open that one first.”
Three hours and six boxes later, you were up to your waist in new inventory for the Compendium. Vivienne Owens was meticulous about cataloging everything. Her store may look like organized chaos, but it was far from it. There was a place for everything and everything in its place.
It’s business, darling girl. Details matter when there’s money to be made.
Then it hit you, catching you off guard. Your body reacted a second before you were aware of the reason behind it. You should be used to it by now. After all, you’d been born to the gift. But it was always so much stronger at home. You wondered if it were the mountains that gave you the strength, like coming back to the source of that power somehow charged you up. Turning the more muted tones of the world to bright technicolor. Either way, it was intense.
The familiar brush of ancient knowledge tugged at you, sending a shiver down your spine. You felt your heartbeat slow and your pupils grew wide. The world expanded and contracted, and the power came through you on a breath. Inhale. Exhale.
Your grandmother felt it too and when she locked eyes with you, something clattered to the floor in the kitchen.
“Broom fell,” you intoned, unblinking. “Company’s coming.”
As the words left your mouth there was a strong knock at the front door, followed by the doorbell. Gran put a steady hand on your shoulder and rose to answer it. The look on her ageless face when she opened the door said she was not pleased by the visitor on her doorstep.
“Samuel Winchester. Here to have your future told?”
Sam took off his hat and held it in front of him. His father raised both boys to have old school manners and Sam found them especially useful when interacting with the older members of the community. “No thanks, Viv. I’m here on official business.”
Viv crossed her arms over her chest and raised an eyebrow, “As am I. Not that I have much choice since you boys have denied me access to my own shop. I’ll be out of business in a month at this rate.”
“It was location of a murder.”
“It was the location of a body; the murder took place elsewhere.”
“Do you have something to confess, Ms. Owens?” Sam mildly returned.
“Don’t tempt me, Samuel.”
“As a matter of fact, I am here to inform you that the Silverton sheriff’s department has completed its investigation of the Compendium and is releasing it back to you. You may resume all normal activities therein.”
“Ah.”
He smiled that charming, lopsided smile he retained from boyhood, “I would like to personally extend my gratitude for your generous cooperation.”
Your gran always thought Sam was a cutie. Such a lovely young lad! Her irritation vanished and she waved her hand dismissively. “Happy to help, any time. You know that.”
“Thank you again,” Sam said, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “Is Y/N around, by chance? I need to talk to her.”
Viv chuckled then and gave Sam’s cheek a fond tap, “Still the bashful boy.”
“Y/N!” She called over her shoulder, “Company!”
“Hey,” he nodded to you when you quietly appeared in the doorway beside your grandmother. “Got a minute?”
Viv disappeared back into the house, and you stepped out to join Sam on the porch. It was colder than it had been the night of the party. Bitter. Your breath came out in white puffs, but you refused to put on your coat. Why be comfortable? This was going to be an uncomfortable conversation, and you didn’t need to be psychic to know it.
You wrapped your arms around your middle, your hands cupping your elbows. You recalled countless times in your youth when Sam would turn up at your house. The two of you would run off in search of mysteries and adventures. Chasing each other through the wooded mountainside, exploring all the hidden places that only children seem to know. How simple things had been back then.
You gave him a wan smile, your eyes finally meeting his shadowed ones. There was a heaviness about him, a weight. The badge he wore with pride now hung like a millstone around his neck.
How did we get so old?
“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this.”
“The uniform?” he guessed.
“You, like this. I’ve never seen you so serious.”
“No, probably not.” He took a few steps and leaned on one of the thick, stone pillars that held up the porch roof. “I need your help.”
You tilted your head in confusion, “I gave Bobby my statement from that night, was there something I missed?”
“No, it’s not that.”
An image flashed into your mind. Brief but horrific and harsh enough to take your breath away. “Oh, God.”
You knew. You always knew, that was why he came to you. It had been that way ever since you were children and he needed to tap into that connection now. Before it was too late.
“Y/N.”
“There’s been another murder,” you breathed, almost afraid to say the words aloud.
He nodded; his expression grim. “Discovered this morning.”
“Why are you here, Sam?”
“Because I’m desperate,” he stated wearily. “Whoever this guy is, he’s like a ghost. He doesn’t leave a trace. I’ve been working with the FBI for weeks on this and all I’ve got to show for it are a lot of dead ends and more bodies. I need an edge. I need you, your gift.”
Your eyes widened at the implication, “You can’t be serious. I don’t know the first thing about tracking a serial killer!”
“I know, I know it’s a lot to ask. Too much to ask. I know you’ve never done anything like this. All I’m asking is that you come take a look. See if you pick up anything.”
“Pick up what exactly?”
“I don’t know. Maybe you’ll see a face or vehicle. A location.” Sam’s hazel eyes were earnest. “Please, anything. I’ll take anything.”
“Sam, it doesn’t work like that.”
“Please. Y/N/N, please. I’ve seen you do impossible things over the years; I know you’ve got it in you. You always have.”
Sensing your resolve wavering, he pulled out a small item from his pocket and held it out to you. It looked so much smaller than you remembered. Probably because the hand it was held in belonged to a full-grown man, not an adolescent.
“We were friends once. If that means anything to you. Please.” He took your hand and placed the treasure in your palm, “For old times’ sake.”
The arrowhead. You shouldn’t be surprised he’d kept it. Sammy always was the sentimental type. You ran your thumb over the edge and found it still sharp. As were the memories that went with it.
“We’re still friends.”
September 5, 2001
“Sam, are you sure about this?”
“This is the place,” Sam said, pulling his compass from his pocket. “All three settlement documents mark this as the first structure in Silverton.”
You looked around the clearing and frowned. The air was still, no bird song or crickets. But it wasn’t as if the place was empty. Although you couldn’t see them, you could feel them. The eyes on you, watching, waiting. Spirits just on the other side of the veil. The mountains were filled with them.
“The first white structure,” you corrected him. “You know there were all kinds of native people here before Silverton even existed.”
“True, but we don’t have any information on them. Plus, the settlement of the town is the assignment.” Sam pointed out, digging in his backpack for his notebook. “You hungry? I brought granola bars.”
“No thanks.”
“Come on, Y/N. We’re going to be out here a while. Keep your energy up and stay hydrated, number one rules of wilderness survival.”
You reluctantly took the bar from his hand if only to make him happy. “It’s not really wilderness, we’re less than two miles from my house.”
“Still counts,” Sam informed you with authority. “Dean says lack of preparedness is arrogance wrapped in stupidity.”
“Dean says.” You snorted and sat down on a moss-covered boulder, “Your brother needs to read something other than Cold War bunker pamphlets. It’s making him paranoid.”
Sam idolized his big brother and instantly jumped to his defense, “He’s educating himself, and me. There is nothing wrong with taking a few precautions.”
“Yeah? And what about that weird, Unabomber beard he’s been growing? He looks like he lives under a bridge.”
“Oh, he’s got a few tips for living under a bridge.”
“Shut up,” you laughed.
Sam watched as you took a tiny nibble out of the corner of the granola bar and fold the wrapper back over it to put it away for later. It reminded him of why he’d chose this assignment with you as his partner. He knew the bullying and ridicule you faced every day. Taking you out into nature and away from them seemed the best way to protect you.
“You know those girls were just bitches.”
“Doesn’t make them wrong.”
“They’re both.” Sam said with conviction, “They’re bitches and they’re wrong.”
“I broke through the bleachers, and they called me a fat freak,” your eyes burned with unshed tears at the memory. You still felt the humiliation and shame so acutely that you wondered if it would ever go away.
“It wasn’t nice, but it was true.”
“Those bleachers are like a hundred years old; the wood is rotted. Anybody stepping there would have gone through. My uncle Bobby says it’s a hazard and they are replacing the whole thing in the spring.”
You kicked a pebble with the scuffed toe of your sneaker. Sam had a point, but it didn’t take the sting away. You hated the way you looked. While other girls were starting to hit growth spirts, your frame remained stubbornly short and pudgy. Your classmates never missed an opportunity to point it out. Usually with a cruel twist.
“They’re jealous because you’re smart and funny and awesome. That’s the only reason they say that stuff. You’re special, Y/N. And everybody knows it.”
You sniffled and looked up at your best friend, finding only honesty in his hazel eyes. “Thanks Sammy. You’re special too, and I’m not the only one who thinks so.”
He tilted his head and you smiled knowingly, “Jessie Moore thinks you’re pretty special.”
Sam’s ears turned bright red confirming that he still harbored a crush on the little blonde girl who sat in front of him in class. He cleared his throat and held out a hand to you. “Come on, we should get started before it starts to get dark.”
You let the subject drop as he hauled you to your feet. Sam, with his sweet nature and puppy dog eyes was a like a brother to you. He was always looking out for you. His friendship was steadfast and eased the loneliness of being an only child. And although you didn’t see him as crush material, many of the girls in your class did.
Maybe it was a Winchester thing, Dean was the same way. They were the hero type. They stood up against bullies, helped old ladies across the street, rescued kittens stuck in trees. No wonder they had the girls of Silverton pining after them.
It didn’t take Sam long to locate the foundation outline of the old trading post. A modest square of partially covered stones. The two of you took pictures and mapped it out, quickly completing the assignment. You were packing away the old polaroid camera you borrowed from Gran when Sam came jogging over from the tree line.
“Y/N, look what I found!”
In his mud caked fingers was an arrowhead. Surprisingly smooth, with still-sharpened edges. He dropped it in your hand, and you found it to be quite warm.
“Wow, this looks old. Like, really old.”
“I know!” He said excitedly, “It’s the real deal, it’s gotta be. Right?”
You nodded slowly as the hair on the back of your neck stood up. The odd, tingly feeling sent a shiver down your back. You looked back to the trees where Sam had just been and saw a figure emerge.
“Sam,” you whispered, “Look.”
He followed your line of sight. The figure was blurry at first, then seemed to come into focus. It was a boy, no older than you. Dressed in beaded buckskins, his hair was shiny black and held in a long braid. For a very long time the three of you all simply stared at each other. Curious children that you were. Two living, one long dead.
“What does he want?” asked Sam, his voice hushed.
You opened yourself, the way your Gran had taught you. Enough to hear but still protect yourself from potential harm. “The arrowhead, it belonged to him.”
“Does he want it back? Tell him I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“It’s okay,” you say with a serene smile. “He’s the one who showed you where it was hidden. He wants you to have it.”
“Why?”
“Because you are like him. Brave and true. A warrior.”
“He was warrior?” Sam shook his head, unable to look away from the fascinating sight. “But he’s just a kid. Like us.”
“Maybe people are warriors in different ways.”
The native boy held up a hand to wave and the two of you mimicked the gesture. The wind picked up and he was gone.
You and Sam stayed where you were for a few minutes while the events of the afternoon sank in. After a time, you handed the arrowhead back to your friend who still looked a little shaken up.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Sam turned the treasure over in his hand, his brow furrowed. “I thought it would be scary, you know? Talking to ghosts. I was a little nervous, but excited too. Is it always like that?”
“Ghosts are just people. Some are scary, some aren’t. But in the end, they all want the same thing. They want to be seen, remembered.”
Sam nodded thoughtfully as a slow smile spread. “I’ll remember for sure. We both will.”
“I must be out of my damned mind,” you muttered to yourself as you quickly walked up the sidewalk to the tiny, yellow house.
You could feel the heaviness of death already and you hadn’t even reached the door. Everything in you screamed to leave, run and don’t stop. This was bad. Very, very bad. Premeditated evil. The whole property was saturated with it.
Your grandmother had been particularly opposed to your helping Sammy Winchester. No matter how soft she was on him, having her darling girl anywhere near that sort of thing had her spitting nails. In the end, she knew she couldn’t stop you. It was the calling, to not answer it was just as harmful. So, she relented and helped dress you in every measure of spiritual protection she knew. You wondered if it would be enough.
The clicking of your suede pumps on the wooden steps seemed especially loud. It was the cold, mountain air that amplified the sound. The contrast to the eerie silence of the crime scene nearly had you turning back. Steeling your resolve, you knocked three times on the door and shoved your hands back in the pockets of your violet peacoat.
Sam was waiting for you. He opened the door and held up the yellow tape that barricaded the entrance so you could duck underneath.
“Thanks for coming Y/N. I sent the rest of the guys back to the station, figured it was better for you to have it quiet.”
You stood frozen in the entryway as images flooded your mind. Snippets of everyday life. Trying to get the new couch in the door. Cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Painting the hallway. Watching movies. Wrapping birthday presents. A bicycle, glossy and bright red.
Your heart twisted. “She was a mother.”
He nodded, “A nine-year-old son. He’s staying with his grandparents in Denver.”
Sam handed you a set of disposable gloves and booties, reminding you not to disturb any potential evidence. He watched you slip off your shoes and winter coat. The loss of the heels made you even shorter compared to him and he felt suddenly very protective of his pseudo sister.
“Before you go in, I have to warn you. It’s not an easy thing to see.”
You slipped the booties on over your stockings, “I didn’t think it would be. It’s a dead body, Sam.”
“Yeah, but it’s not like the one from the party,” he cautioned. “She’s been here a while. Days possibly.”
You nodded and followed him to the living room before your imagination could run away with you completely. The body was laying in the middle of the room. Laid out similarly to the one from the Compendium. Not a mark on her that would indicate the cause of death. Flowers again, but no wedding dress. This woman was dressed in a 50’s style dress with a frilly apron tied around her waist, like Donna Reed. The perfect housewife. The makeup, the hair, the shoes. She was beautiful, even in death. But Sam was right, she wasn’t preserved like the other body. This one was kind of puffy, and the skin was turning colors from congealed blood that pooled in her veins.
Your feet suddenly squished into the carpet, and you noticed a ring of wetness radiating from around the body. “She was frozen too?”
Sam nodded, “Yeah. We’re thinking she was brought here already frozen and arranged, then left to be discovered. We won’t know for how long until the autopsy.”
“It was Samhain.”
“Halloween? Same night as the party?”
You closed your eyes and tried to focus, to bring more details to you, but they were a blur. Coming too fast to be deciphered. You heard a man’s voice, a woman’s scream. Pleading, begging to be spared. And something else… a wet, tearing sound. Like a boning knife cutting through a trout.
You put a trembling hand over your rolling stomach and took an unsteady breath. Your heartbeat thundered causing your blood to rush in your ears. Louder and louder, faster and faster until you were sure it was going to beat right out of your chest.
Sweat broke out over your skin while your blood ran cold. You could hear your ancestors calling, warning. Turn away! This was evil, as pure as it could get. And it wasn’t done, not by a long shot.
Suddenly, you heard Sam’s voice. He touched your shoulder, and your eyes flew open.
“What did you say?”
He kept a hold of you, concern written all over his face. “I asked if you were okay. You look a little pale.”
You weren’t sure how to answer and the figure that appeared in the arched doorway saved you from having to. “Dean.”
“I leave for a few minutes, and you give a civilian the five-cent tour.”
He was handsome, just like the night of the party. Time had been good to him, honed the beautiful features of his face. Sharpened the square jawline, deepened the crinkles that framed his eyes when he smiled. Although, you suspected he smiled all too rarely. He’d exchanged the tuxedo for a dark, blue suit and a matching wool overcoat with his FBI i.d. clipped to his lapel. And there was a harshness to him. You suspected he meant to project strength, but all you saw was hurt.
“I asked her to come have a look, see if she could pick up on something.”
“What the hell’s the matter with you? This is a murder scene not a side show attraction!”
“I’m aware of that,” Sam ground out through clenched teeth. “She isn’t going to disturb anything. And frankly, we need all the help we can get.”
“Help?!” Dean scoffed. “From one of the Addams’ family?”
That snapped you out of your rambling mind, your whole body flooded with white hot anger. After all this time, after everything the three of you went through! The nerve!
“Fuck you, Dean!” you spat.
He merely arched his brow, “No offense Sweetheart, but this is a murder investigation not a costume party. This is no place for one of your little shows.”
It came to you then, as you stared at Dean Winchester all grown up. It was the same thing you felt at the party. You mistook it for a childhood connection coming back, but it was more than that. It was something else. God, how could you be so blind?
“This isn’t my show, it’s yours.”
Sam recognized the slightly dilated look in your eyes, he’d seen it often when you were kids. It was a vision.
“Y/N,” he gently prompted.
“This whole thing is an encore, a special performance just for you.” You slowly paced the room; your eyes unblinking as you spoke in an eerie, detached voice.
“You are his obsession; he’s been watching you and that’s why he came here. To Silverton, to your home. This is his gift to you.”
“A gift,” Dean repeated, swallowing the sickening dread. “A gift from who?”
The vison ended then, as quickly as it started. You rubbed the heel of your hand over your breastbone as one final piece of information came to you. Gran was right, you never should have agreed to help.
“Arrogant fool. You left this place, but it never left you. In your heart, it’s still home and now your unfinished business will destroy it as it destroys you.”
Your deep, brown eyes were sorrowful and accusatory as you regarded the older Winchester. Growing up, you trusted him as completely as you did Sam. Now you were searching for any sign of the boy you knew in the man standing before you. You found none.
Dean shook his head and pushed down the feeling of uneasiness clawing at him. “Y/N Owens, the metaphor queen. Can you not talk like magic eight ball with head injury?”
“Dean.” Sam gave his brother a warning look.
“Speak plain, Miss Cleo! What do you mean?”
“What I mean is you’re an idiot!” You shouted at last, your temper flaring. Only Dean ever got you this riled up, some things never really change.
“You ran away from home, away from your family, away from me. You tried to cut that part of yourself off, but you didn’t finish the job. And now this monster is using it to torture you and he’s killing people whose only sin was living in this town!”
Sam and Dean exchanged a look, wordlessly communicating volumes. They still had that connection and a part of you was glad. Another part of you ached for the connection you used to share with them. You could still read them as easily as a book, but instead of bringing a sense of belonging. It brought heartache and a reminder of how badly it all ended so long ago.
“Don’t worry yourself, Agent Winchester, I won’t go blabbing to the press. Although, its only a matter of time before they catch wind of it along with the other tidbits you’re trying to keep under wraps.”
Dean didn’t particularly appreciate being dressed down, by you or anyone else. “You got something to say, Y/N. Say it.”
You were done. Your whole body felt depleted, the after effect of performing a reading in such a violently charged space. Your head and you heart ached in unison. You needed to leave or there would be consequences and frankly, you needed to leave before you punched Dean in the face on principle.
“There is something else connecting your victims, something you’ve kept out of the papers. Something you haven’t even shared with the other officers,” you said, heading for the door.
Reaching the threshold, you paused but did not look back. “They’re all missing their hearts. Just like you.”

Also negative character developmemt is a thing! We can have a John Winchester that was a fairly decent guy, but trauma progressively wrecking him until what we get is the John the boys knew. Which imo if well done would be absolutely gutting.
Yeah, I mean, that's kind of the implication that I think most of us always got from the flashback episodes. Sure he and Mary had their marital difficulties, and a lot of that may stem from Mary keeping secrets about her hunting past, the fact that John literally died and was resurrected by Mary's deal in 1973 and never knew about any of it, and then the way Mary died and how that would be enough to do plenty of psychic damage on its own... I mean, the pilot episode shows him being Decent Dad Guy with his kids, even if he and Mary had the sort of relationship where he fell asleep watching war movies in the living room after a couple beers every night instead of actually sleeping with his wife... so like...
It would take a lot to convince me that his relationship with Mary was twu wuv and not at least heavily influenced by Heaven, but he never seemed to be a horrible dad until after Mary's death when the paranoia clearly set in and he stopped making any sort of reasonable life choices, either.
I wouldn't be not-interested in exploring all of that, too, especially with Dean as narrator as he works through all of that too. He's the one with the heaviest unresolved parental trauma, and I'd be glad for him to actually get a chance to address it.
I think the ONE thing that would make me nope out on it at this point is if this was being presented as "Dean narrating from Heaven post 15.20." I think that would just push it one notch too far for me, but anything short of that I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

Mcshep as Destiel
first thing's first: this ask is evil. cursed. this is the kind of text that even Dr. Daniel Jackson, successor of the great Evelyn 'I-don't-believe-in-cursed-texts' Carnahan-O'Connell, who canonically possesses 0.1% self-preservation instincts, will not touch with a ten-foot pole.
no fandom archivist / enthusiast worth their salt would want to wake up in the morning & immediately sustain massive psychic damage upon seeing a notification like this:
Tumblr media
understood? cool.
now that we have those disclaimers out of the way, dear anon, we can play ball.
let me preface my actual response by saying that my experience with Supernatural & Tumblr’s Golden Ship has been unorthodox, at best.
when spn first came out, I was a child, but a child with an indulgent father who cultivated my love for cinema & urban fantasy. we got into Supernatural wayy before Castiel was a thing. we watched it diligently as soon as the newest episode became available in my country. my dad would quiz me on the case’s salient points, and we’d talk about the monster-of-the-week & how it compares to the creatures in our own folklore. Supernatural was, to some extent, educational. heh. (yes, i was very much a minor. yes, my parents were pretty lax on the exposure to blood & gore. I grew up fine, all things considered.)
we stopped our religious following of the show around the time the Leviathan storyline was unfolding. my father & I loved Bobby, and we were also starting to notice a lack of focus in terms of plot & direction. the rest of my exposure then to SPN was courtesy of Tumblr, which I managed to compartmentalize thanks to my other hyperfixations with high fantasy & sci-fi shows.
BASICALLY, what I’m saying is that I know Supernatural like a kid knows their local urban legends. and that, plus my current hyperfixation on All Things Stargate, has been a cause of many a crossover & fusion ideas.
but there’s a reason I’ve been dragging my feet when it comes to actually making content for these plotbunnies (and why I have yet to include spn for my McShep AU series). it’s because the whole thing is bound to be chaotic.
(by the way, dearest anon, what the actual heck made you send me this cursed ask? exactly which blog posts made you go, “ah. this Kit person loves Stargate & McShep, and would absolutely know something about Heller stuff.” WHERE did i go so wrong??)
ACTUAL RESPONSE:
it’s sooo easy to have Rodney as Castiel + Sheppard as Dean. (bitchy, sanctimonious fandom favorite? self-loathing, repressed, & too-pretty-for-his-own-good green-eyed action hero? practically cardboard cut-outs)
but here’s the thing, my lovelies: Kit thinks otherwise (and yes, I just referred to myself in third person. “mentally unstable as a fox“ and all that jazz)
1. Rodney is Dean because while Sheppard’s Daddy Issues are more overt & present in-text, Rodney’s are closer to the Winchester Kind of Daddy Issues (in that there’s pressure-from-beyond-the-grave to carry on with the ‘family business’. in this hypothetical AU, it could be hunting, it could be science, take your pick, but Rodney-as-Dean has taken it upon himself to be the Good Son, and it’s 99.9% because of Dad McKay.)
“This is not what dad would've wanted.”
"Shared credit, huh? We'll do this together? Dad'll be so proud."
- 3x08, McKay & Mrs Miller
2. Rodney & Dean both have a kid sibling who wants out (who wants a normal life outside the family business, dammit.) really no need to elaborate on that. Jeannie is Sammy. I dont make the rules.
3. Rodney & Dean both have that one-track-mind drive to do what they think they do best, their only purpose for existence, to the point that they cannot see anything beyond that One Thing (science, hunting/protecting their younger sibling) because that’s how they were raised. their perceived Only Talent becomes their whole identity, and when that is taken away from them, there’s (at least according to them) virtually nothing left.
4. Sheppard is Castiel because of the gay coding. c’mon.
5. Sheppard is Castiel because grace & ATA gene can be metaphors for each other, and I think that’s pretty cool.
6. Sheppard is Castiel because they’re both Soldiers who rebelled & disobeyed shitty orders because it went against everything they are & have ever believed in. there was a fundamental disconnect between what they’d been asked to do & what makes them them, so they went up against The Man, and said, No.
7. Rodney is Dean because they refuse to believe in a higher power that governs everything they do. they tell the universe what’s what, not the other way around.
8. Rodney is also Dean because the only exception to this is Sheppard & Castiel. if the higher power (God / Ancients) had a hand in the creation of this Being, then maybe it’s good for something, after all.
9. Sheppard is Castiel because they share an inability to say no to this one person they keep having to save over and over again, even when said person’s ideas are shitty and risks everyone & everything in this plane of existence.
10. McShep as Destiel will have Rodney McKay as a stubborn & competent man who embodies everything good and bad about humanity, and whose misguided views on family & masculinity are forever changed when someone who is Definitely A Little More than Human chooses him as their favorite person ever; it’ll have John Sheppard as the Prodigal Son Extraordinaire, who damns himself & all that is holy because he just wants to save his best friend, this flawed human he’s come to treasure beyond reason, from himself.

I would love for you to talk more indepth about the montage. To me it feels so off and weird. Almost like a parody? So many scenes in it are "funny" moments that just don't make sense in the context of an emotional overview of the road so far... (Like all the scenes where Dean is eating, Donna with donut dust on her face, Sam getting hit during the game show.) I don't know. Isn't the montage supposed to make me nostalgic, teary-eyed? This one definitely doesn't do it for me!
Here I am! Yes, I absolutely agree. The montage is Weird(TM). It’s kind of a tone rollercoaster. It’s very full of funny/silly moments, with some serious moments smacked in. And it definitely looks like... there’s something about it.
For an easier consultation I will reference the gifs I have made of the montage sequence here.
[Gif 1] It starts pretty much like I’d expect a Supernatural goodbye montage to start. The two brothers meeting for the first time in the pilot, a reminder of their childhood with John, their banter still from the pilot, a couple moments of them driving in the car in the first seasons, Dean saving Lucas in 1x03 which is the first Dean-heavy episode and also an extremely symbolic moment for Dean’s entire journey - just think at how Lucas as a mirror was still relevent during the “drowning” Michael possession arc. Everything feels normal so far. We’re starting from the beginning! Now--
[Gif 2] Interesting and weird choices start here. Them pretending to be high school teachers from After School Special 4x13 - actually a very iconic moment for the fandom, remember that post of Dean in shorts from that episode that you had to reblog when it came on your dash? (Actually I’m not sure if I ever reblogged it lol.) Dean celebrating getting young again from The Curious Case of Dean Winchester 5x07 (and Jensen showing off his agility). The two of them showing their FBI badges to Jesse Turner’s biological mother in 5x06. Dean mowing the lawn of Mary’s house in the Djinn dream and immediately after Jess and Sam kissing also in the Djinn dream, from What Is And What Should Never Be 2x20. Then Dean after killing the witch when he was under the memory loss spell, in Regarding Dean 12x11. Sam happy when they celebrate Christmas in A Very Supernatural Christmas 3x08. Them being “lucky” under the effect of the rabbit’s foot in Bad Day At Black Rock 3x03. Sam also happy in Baby 11x04.
Again the present, then the montage starts again with the water-related ghost from Red Sky At Morning 3x06, a Bela episode, and then Bela herself from her first episode, 3x03 again.
What do these moments have in common? Not all of them, but for many of them I’d say reality being manipulated. The Djinn dream, the rabbit foot, Dean’s aging, the Antichrist... and it’s not over yet. Also, them pretending to be teachers, agents etc - not “real”.
[Gif 3] The tone suddenly gets more serious and relevant to current events: Chuck in The Monster at the End of This Book 4x18 (eh). Death in Two Minutes to Midnight 5x21 (the first appearance of Death, while now we’ve had Billie’s last and a very short-lived new one), and then two major moments from Lazarus Rising - Dean emerging from the grave and finding the handprint on his shoulder. Crowley’s first episode, Abandon All Hope 5x10. Zachariah’s death in Point Of No Return 5x18. Anna from The Song Remains The Same 5x13, where she is the antagonist having been brainwashed successfully by heaven. Michael burning and Sam jumping in the cage with Michael in 5x22, then another moment from 4x01 (the brothers hugging after reuniting). A moment from The French Mistake 6x15 (reality fuckery again!). Sam in Frontierland 6x18.
[Gif 4] Reality fuckery continues with Becky marrying Sam in 7x08. Funnily enough, this is the peak of Becky’s obsessive behavior which she went to therapy for and grew away of - it definitely emphasizes how far Becky has come. Donna’s first appeance in 9x13. That iconic shot of Dean in Bloodlust 2x03 because he’s pretty. Charlie’s first appearance in 7x20 while she dances to Walking On Sunshine (relevant?), Kevin’s first appearance in 7x21 when he becomes a prophet (lots of firsts). Abaddon’s first appearance in As Time Goes By 8x12. Then there’s the first appearance of the bunker, in the next episode, a couple shots in fact. Then more 4x01, Ruby pretending to mistake Dean for the pizza man (eh). Then more present...
This section seems to be mostly “first appearances” - including Ruby’s s4 meatsuit, i.e. Genevieve’s first appearance.
[Gif 5] We suddenly jump to more recent events with Kelly and Jack in heaven in Byzanthium 4x08. Jack’s iconic hello from 4x16 Don’t Go In The Woods. Dean teaching Jack how to drive in 14x07 Unhuman Nature. But then we suddenly go from Jack things to something completely different on the surface: two consecutive moments from Changing Channels 5x08, including the iconic Nutcracker scene, and Sully from Just My Imagination. We are actually back to the previous theme: reality fuckery. Gabriel’s episode was about placing them in “television shows”, Sully, while real, is literally a child’s “imaginary friend”. And then... a moment from the cartoon part of Scoobynatural! It doesn’t get more reality fuckery than that. Oh, wait! Charlie and Dorothy going to Oz in 9x04. That’s a pretty strong contender. Dean being hit in the face by a fairy in 6x09 - also about a realm Dean briefly went to. And, in case we felt like we hadn’t gotten enough 4x01 yet, Pamela’s first appearance (her last, albeit a hallucination, was about the whole “How come you only want what you can't have?” thing).
[Gif 6] We continue again with a mixture of firsts and weird things. Ellen’s first appearance in 2x02, Dean and Cas in 4x18 (we saw Chuck from that episode earlier), Jody’s first appearance in 5x15 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Rufus in 6x04 Weekend At Bobby’s (not his first but a good episode...), Garth in 9x12 Sharp Teeth (not his first but the first in which he is a werewolf and is married... relevant to recent lamp events??), Missouri in 1x09 (her first appearance).
Then Gabriel from 13x21 Beat The Devil (an episode where he plays a trick on Lucifer) and Rowena from the same scene (in fact a scene where they’re flirting).  Then Eileen coming back to life in 15x06 and smiling at Sam. Jo flirting with Dean in 2x02 - her first appearance, again. Funnily enough, she had been introduced as a love interest, but ended up being repurposed as a sisterly figure. Tempted to say it’s relevant in an ironic way. Mary in 14x11 Damaged Goods, when Dean has a goodbye mother-son moment with her. Amara in 11x09 Oh Brother Where Art Thou when she was looking for her brother. Then Lucifer in two different vessels (12x07 Rock Never Dies and 12x21, when Lucifer regains control over the vessel).
Then Metatron doing the find a wife make babies speech to Cas in 8x23! Relevant??? Dun dun dun. Then Ketch for some reason (the first episode where we see his face, 12x08 LOTUS).
[Gif 7] Then Jo/Anael in 13x13, another first appearance. (I cropped these horribly I should have cut them when the present happens lol.)
Sandwiched between two shots from the present, Dean Sam Mary and John having dinner together in 14x13 Lebanon.
Then we start again with Dean riding Larry in 12x11, Dean and Cas dressed as cowboys in 13x06 (mini pattern here...), Asmodeus with the archangel blade in 13x13 (insert meta about Asmodeus in Christian lore here), and the really intriguing “Intermission” shot from the play in 10x05.
[Gif 8] To continue a certain pattern we might be tempted to see, Dean eating piecake from 14x06 Optimism (an episode about a distorted version of romantic love), then Dean eating noodles from 10x13 Halt & Catch Fire (the ghost is a husband that passes on thanks to his wife). Dean after his dentistry session with Garth in 15x10. Meg from 6x10 Caged Heat (the episode with the pizza man porn). Dean and Sam investigating in 4x12 Criss Angel Is a Douchebag (an episode about growing old poorly). Crowley in 10x16 Paint It Black (that episode). Dean playing that game in 14x17 Game Night (the episode Cas calls for God, and when Mary dies - the one playing the game was God...). Sam and Dean getting out of the car in 13x05 when they visit the traumatized kid (peak mourning Dean episode...). Then we go into reality fuckery territory again with 14x15 Peace of Mind, Sam under the psychic’s control and Cas disgruntled about it.
[Gif 9] Mick Davies from 12x16 Ladies Drink Free, when he learnt a lesson about monsters. Dean geeking out about the Hatchet Man - so heavy with mirror significances - in 14x04 Mint Condition. Belphegor - Jack’s dark mirror - in 15x03 The Rupture, the break-up episode. Donna’s first episode again, this time Dean and she eating donuts. Dean, Sam and Mary hugging in 12x22 after the confrontation in Mary’s head. Kaia in 13x09 The Bad Place, when Jack uses her to find the way to where Mary is (Mary pattern?). Claire&co rescuing Jody and Donna in 13x10 Wayward Sisters. Dean in 1944 dresses as a sailor in 11x14 The Vessel. Baby nyooming in 15x11 The Gamblers...
Aaand more Changing Channels, the genital herpes ad. It’s almost like reality fuckery is a theme. Followed by Sam drinking the anti-cold concoction at Garth’s in 15x10 and the two of them outside the monster fighting pit in the same episode. Then Cas, Dean, Sam and Jack on a video call with Ketch in 14x09 The Spear when they talk about the egg to trap Michael.
[Gif 10] We stay in the same episode with the four of them heading to Michael. Then the four of them celebrating Jack’s return to life (after Cas’ deal with the Empty). More present, and then the iconic “we’ve got work to do” [trunk closes] moment from the pilot.
So: some of these moments seem like genuine moments you’ll want to put in a montage, but there’s a weird predominance of characters smiling and looking happy or goofy. It’s kind of... not exactly representative of the show as a whole, you know? There are moments that fit as, you know, iconic steps in the story, but surprisingly few, and many moments you’d expect to be in a “final” montage are blatantly not there. Several moments with, let’s put it like this, suspicious meta connotations. Moments that, well, we don’t know what happens in the finale yet, but smell like they might be relevant to future developments. (Metatron’s speech to newly human Cas anyone?)
What really strikes me is the amount of moments connected to reality being manipulated or distorted in some way. Lots of Changing Channels, fantasy elements of various kinds (the Djinn dream, Scoobynatural, Oz, the imaginary friend Becky’s wedding to Sam, the fairy, ...), them acquiring luck (s3) or losing it (s15), and so on. It’s almost like the sequence is telling us something...

5 Men and a Baby - Don’t Make Things Up pt 11
Tumblr media
Rating : explicit for the series A/N: This is a Supernatural, Psych, and Criminal Minds crossover, so hold on to the reigns as it gets crazy Warnings: mentions of previous smut. Summary: A case in Santa Barbara gets some special attention from several highly trained investigators as it rolls into the ER on a gurney. Word Count: 594
A great big thank you to @firefly-in-darkness for the divider!! she is amazing you should check her out!
“Did you forget I was here, Shawn?”  Henry asked as he adjusted himself on the recovery bed in the hospital.
“No, I was just expecting you to be out already,”  Shawn snarked at his dad.
“Why is Gia in your room?”  Gus asked pointing at the nurse who was sitting behind the curtain.
“She’s my nurse for the night shift,”  Henry said crossing his arms.
“It’s not night time,”  Gus gestured to the window.  Shawn rolled his eyes.
“This is Juliet’s idea isn’t?  Why are you hiding?”  Shawn asked as he closed the door to his dad’s room.
“Thomas tried to kill me,”  Gia said covering herself protectively with her arms.  “He drugged me, and I am lucky to be alive.”  She looked hesitantly over at Henry before glancing back at Shawn and Gus.  Shawn’s fingers went to his temple.
“That’s when our good friends the FBI showed up and saved your life.  Not before they both succumbed to the same drug you had ingested?”  Shawn shook his wrist out like he had done hard work.
“Don’t do that here Shawn,”  Henry pointed his finger at his son.
“He’s right,”  Gia said looking away.  “I didn’t notice it until the next day, but there was some powder in my hair when I showered.”
“That’s it Gus!”  Shawn shouted and jumped up and down.  “Those Fake FBI guys think they are looking for a witch.  The real FBI guys think they are looking for a serial killer.  What if this guy is both!”
“Wait fake FBI guys?”  Henry asked rather loudly.  Gia looked wide eyed in horror at Shawn at him exposing Sam and Dean as something other than what they claimed.  “Fake FBI and witches, you know this sounds a lot like that John Winchester guys from the late 90s.”
“Dad don’t make things up!”  Shawn laughed as he and Gus headed out of his room without further explanation.
“Wait!  Shawn,”  Gia called as she raced out of the room behind the two friends.  “You didn’t ask how Reid factors into this?”
“He’s the real FBI, they’ve been tracking Thomas,”  Gus said like it was obvious.  Shawn put his finger to his forehead again as he realized this couldn’t be the whole story.
“And he was you neighbor in the story that Sam told us,”  Shawn said looking over at Gus.  “The real target that Thomas was after was your next door neighbor, and the was the esteemed BAU Agent Spencer Reid.”
“I was going to say he was my boyfriend at the time, I assumed he had told you the other.  It’s not like you need to be psychic to work out that I was just collateral damage.”  Gia said nonchalantly and Gus and Shawn shared a look.
“Do the Fake FBI know that he was your boyfriend?”  Gus asked.
Tumblr media
“Sam we need to get this witch this time.  He’s crossing to many lines.  I’m really worried about Gia,”  Dean said as his brother met back up with him at the Santa Barbara Police station.
“Where’s the psychic?”  Sam asked looking around.  He didn’t see Shawn or Gus.  Rossi and Reid were heading toward them.  Sam was still hoping that Bobby was able to get the real Fed off their backs long enough.
“Dude, I didn’t tell you everything,”  Dean said rubbing his face.  Reid was reading a file and about to walking into the two brothers.  “I slept with Gia too,”  Dean said before taking his face out of his hands in time for Spencer Reid’s fist to collide with his jaw.

That ask and your answer about what if Sam was out of hunting and never left Stanford because Gabriel wanted to stop the apocalypse and threw him into a pocket dimension and I’m like. Obsessed. primarily with gabriel and how Sam would go.
I think he would stick Sam in a like… you remember when Zachariah stuck sam and dean in the office job and it was a parallel universe but also it was real life? like coplanar planes, I think Gabriel would elect to do that instead of his you’re going in my alternate universe, because it’s less detail consuming and I think Sam would notice small things that were off like how he figured out it was him in mystery spot.
You said Sam deserves to have the apple pie life but if he was comfortable with that it wouldn’t like.. work he wouldn’t be ready to ever confront Lucifer or anyone. i agree but also I don’t think he would stick with his normal life. like in the zachariah episode he had a normal life and fake memories of that but he still wanted to hunt and help people and also figure out wtf was happening. I think in this scenario Sam would still be psychic because I love that but Gabriel would probably try like… suppressing his visions and such, because they would lead him back into possible angel business. I think he’d still get little snippets because that’s fun and having reminders in that that the supernatural like.. exists and ppl are getting hurt, I think that would overrule his want of complete normalcy and even his spite toward John.
I don’t think he’d go back into hunting like, completely because I want him to have something good and also be semi well adjusted. but like we saw in the terrible life episode I think he’d like.. if he got bored and started looking up strange deaths well now he has to go help them!!
also it is sooo fun to me if he starts realizing something is wrong but he doesn’t know what. like in mystery spot I love that trope sooo fucking much also in s1 sam gets back into hunting through John Winchester style revenge quest and I want to give him a reason to start poking around that is like.. for himself and not anybody else. he can have a little obsession over it as a treat because i like seeing him be a bitch <3
i think initially when Gabriel found out the apocalypse was like in motion and Sam was at Stanford he’d have an opportunity there to do something without revealing to other players that he is alive because he was pretending to be a trickster. like he’s very much in this for self preservation and if he did some time traveling shenanigans, or disappearing both Winchesters and maybe even Adam out of nowhere, I think he’d worry that the angels would take notice. Randy your vessels!! But Stanford gives him a natural window to hide a key player. he needs to do away with Adam too so Lucifer can’t possibly have a true vessel to fight.. maybe he can kill him in a freak accident because I find that funny. sorry this is long and it will be getting longer
anyway I think as time went on Gabriel would pay like less meticulous attention. he’d still keep away like key players but as other people also started trying to stop the apocalypse he would become more relaxed also he’d be overconfident in himself like in changing channels. I think this would lead sam to notice more stuff that just doesn’t make any sense and maybe start looking for dean or even his dad, or going out of his way to look for hunts. maybe get involved in magic because i think he deserves to be a witch. wait actually that’s how he should find Dean. i think Gabriel would hide Dean from Sam and vice versa, and he didn’t foresee Sam using magic or anything. Also at this point it’s been years and I think Sam is more invested in this than his like… normal life. he’s more well adjusted but I can definitely see him just impulsively quitting his job to figure out what the fucks happening. Also I think he’d feel animosity at dean during this for not being there and not helping him, even though that anger doesn’t make complete sense. sorry i like the early seasons salmon dean reconciling and learning to like each other and sam realizing Your Parents Are People and I would like to see it with them having like, completely different lives and also some fun miscommunication bc of Gabriel. also sam having to reconcile dean having cas OHRHDHJ also dean and cas trying horribly to cover cas being not human is so fucking fun to me. unless this happens during a cas is dead time period which is fun in a different evil way.
I also think dean would only stop looking if he though Sam was dead, but I think… Gabriel might have hidden him but other people ARE still meeting him even with like altered memories. so I think angels or something can sense that Sam is alive but they don’t know where and I think they’d gloat and use it to taunt dean that he is like.. suffering while his brother is living a perfect normal life. Also because this adds another miscommunication that can be discussed and end in reconciliation in a way I don’t think would feel contrived and is in line with it the characters. it’d be Amelia s8 but Sam would be like (Sam voice) I did look for you!!! where were you when I needed you! also I want Sam to find out John died and he’s in absolute despair while cas is standing there like oh yes that’s so awful your father was an. absolutely a man😔😐🏳️‍🌈
idk when this would occur and i think every season offers like… different flavors of enjoyment for an audience of just me. like s7 proto widower arc?? Sam reconnecting with Dean during TMWWBK when he is not familiar with the dean and cas dynamic and has to be witness to Trying So Hard To Be Loyal. additionally that would be fun because bobby is there and dean is like, covering his ears and back talking bobby regarding cas. and if they’ve taken pains to hide cas being an angel Sam being like .who is this to Dean. is suchhh a fun concept.
WAIT post goodbye stranger. or maybe Sam can show up pre goodbye stranger to watch dean go from clingy after cas gets back from purgatory to wrongfooted to like ANGRY. well not Angry… to dean having dean emotions. when cas is off with the tablet ignoring him and he feels betrayed. and this Sam isn’t as close to him so he doesn’t know ANY details until Dean stats divulging them as they reconcile. ALL GOOD OPTIONS..
also if this happens during s6 i think it would be nice if cas started collecting allies, and at the same time as Sam trying to figure out what was keeping him away from dean and the angel business Cas could figure it out FIRST and use Gabriel as an ally against Raphael but he’d feel like he has to hide it from dean and sam. like in this scenario. actually any time I talk about s6 hypotheticals Cas’ conflict IS the A Plot. the Winchester’s were on a side quest idc. s6 is a fun time for these reasons but i don’t like it as much because Cas is still in the process of like.. formative development.
okay one last thing I’m SOOO sorry for my essay. you said if Sam was dispossessed the apocalypse would just.. not happen. i agree to like, a certain degree, because I do think they could have found another way but all of them would have been dust compared to swan song. so maybe Gabriel semi succeeded but instead of stopping the apocalypse he just… prolonged it. this changes a lot but if either Michael or Lucifer didn’t have a viable vessel I think the angels would scramble to actually for real stop the apocalypse but others would still want it to happen even if it was like.. Perfect they just want it to be over. this provides angel politics which I am in love with and we can still have like TMWWBK development for cas. I don’t know where I’m going with this sorry
op this is a lot, this is so much. i love it, i hope you have a google doc open somewhere and are typing away furiously.
now i didn't rewatch a lot of spn past s3 (surprise) in part bc i can't handle the brain damage and some scenes are seared into my cerebral cortex in a way that induced a temporary bout of eidetic memory, meaning i'll never forget the crypt scene in Goodbye Stranger for as long as i live. that being SAID, my s6-s7 knowledge is not as firmly coalesced. so because of that i'm letting your thoughts roam free as i don't know how accurate my own takes would be? but i feel like without sam there, like... hm. would dean even be the same person... would the past however many seasons even OCCUR remotely similar with sam out of the picture for literal years? we might be looking at a completely different world at that point.
my other theory is that the s2 plot of special children - we know azazel was raising a new 'crop' of psychic kids. i think that was a plot thread that they ended up dropping anyway, but if they didn't i do wonder if we'd be dealing with a lot more shenanigans like in s1 and s2 except with kids? and dean and cas trying to figure out what to do with these young psychics that might be turned into a vessel for lucifer or - whatever they wanted to do with those kids. hm.
i also question if purgatory would be a thing. like it probably would come up and be on the table, but maybe the godstiel arc wouldn't, bc if like you're saying dean and cas are together at this point, like. cas might have grown to love humanity (not just dean but like 99% dean) to the point where he might not be doing this risky gambit for more souls. and if gabriel is still around, cas may start petitioning gabe to help throw his archangel weight around against raphael while he tries to do the actual strategizing.
i think sam would still have his visions, like you said, and then maybe those lead him to dean or to a case that dean is also on? or if angels are more well-known later on, he tracks one down, maybe cas, maybe not (if it's NOT and it's one that works on raphael's side. ohoho. the possibilities...)

Sam resists, but when he discovers the good he can do with his new powers, he decides to use them to atone for all his past mistakes.   (21k, Sam/Brady, gen, AU of 5x03-5x04)
Many more under the cut

Tumblr media
His Soul to Keep - art by @sketchydean - written for the SPN Eldritch Bang horror event - Dean’s deal is coming due soon. When he finds out from Ruby that Hell will turn him into a demon, he refuses to accept it, even though he can already feel pieces of his soul starting to crumble away. Sam is his only anchor to the world, and Dean finds it harder and harder to leave his side.    After Broward County, after watching Dean die a thousand deaths, Sam decides he’s not going to let Dean go to Hell. He’ll do whatever it takes, even if that means allying himself with Ruby and using the darkness inside of him. Sam casts a soul-binding spell on Dean; they might not be able to break the deal, but they can change who Dean’s soul belongs to. (13k, Sam/Dean, hard-gen, AU of season 3))
Tumblr media
Last Drop - art by @quickreaver -written for the Twisted Tropes event - Sam/Brady AU set while Sam’s at Stanford:  Sam is slowly adjusting to his new life at Stanford University. He’s left his life of hunting behind, and traded it for endless studying and tests, but he’s plagued by dreams of Dean and Dad in danger, dreams of blood and violence. Then he meets Tyson Brady, who’s always there with a smile and a cup of coffee to get Sam through all-nighters. Sam’s dreams start to fade, but just as he’s getting used to a nice normal life, he starts to develop abilities—powers he can’t control. Brady thinks they’re great, but Sam knows power never comes without a cost. (14k, Sam/Brady)
Tumblr media
Make Angels of Us All - art by @amberdreams1960  - Sam has a guardian angel. It’s been with him his whole life, trying to keep him safe. The angel gives Sam power he can’t control: power to move things with his mind, power over fire, and wings that nobody else can see—bony and jagged with scaly feathers. Dean says monsters aren't real, but Dad thinks they are. Sam's power scares him, and he’s not always sure what's real, but what he does know is people keep trying to kill the three of them, and he won't let that happen. (~20K, gen)
Tumblr media
Burdens, Doublefold - cowritten with @quickreaver, art by ileliberte What if Dean left Sam at Stanford after the fire, hoping it would keep his little brother safe and make things better? Somehow, 'better' never seems to be in the Winchester Family cards. Sam gets tangled up with his ex-roommate Brady, tracking psychics, but dealing with demons is never honest business. Dean carries on until his father is put in grave danger. He is left on his own to deal, stumbling into Harvelle's Roadhouse for help, where Dean gets just a little more than he bargained for. Eventually, the brothers’ paths twist and turn their way back to each other, but the results could mean the End of Days. (67k, gen, AU of seasons 1-2)
Before the One You Serve When Dean comes to get Sam at Stanford, he finds him living with Brady. And Dean doesn't trust Brady, even though he can't quite put his finger on why. Not at first. (5k, Sam/Brady)
Tumblr media
He Who Fights Monsters - cowritten with nwspaprtaxis, art by @quickreaver AU of the summer between Seasons 3 and 4. Dean's dead, dragged down kicking and screaming to Hell. Sam's not dealing well. And Ruby’s got her work cut out for her. (52K, Sam/Ruby)
John Winchester is Dead They say those Winchester boys're crazy. Drive around in a big black beast and drink too much and laugh about mean things. They say their daddy's worse, but you never see him. He's just a voice on the other end of the phone or a darker shape in the back seat of their dark car. They say John Winchester died two years ago. (2k, gen, horror)
Breathing, Talking, Dead Man Walking   -  John Doe, male, approximately thirty-seven years old. Subject was found by EMTs in close proximity to the site of a sizable explosion in Lebanon, Kansas. (2k, gen, Sam & Dean)
Tumblr media
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - featuring art by @quickreaver When Sam opened Lucifer’s Cage, the only thing he found inside was Lucifer’s grace – his grace. With the return of his grace, Sam remembered his past – his war against the Host, his Fall, and his plans to bring about the End. The thing is…he doesn’t want the Apocalypse anymore. He likes things the way they are, and tries everything to keep his identity a secret- especially from Dean. Of course, the four Horsemen, Hell and Heaven have other ideas. (13K, gen)
Tumblr media
The Last Days in the Land of Nod - comic adaptation by @quickreaver The year is 2014. The Devil is wearing his finest, the Angel is human, and the Brother protects the survivors at Camp Chitaqua.
Tumblr media
The Two Ravens - art by @quickreaver Your brother he is, and heir to my throne. He’ll feed on the damned and he'll turn them to bone. (4k; fairy-tale)
Counteroffer About two weeks after Sam gutted a hellhound, completing the first trial, he started acting weird. (5k, psychological horror, gore)
Pattern Recognition: A Hannibal/Supernatural fusion AU  -  Sam and Dean split after River Pass, and their confrontation with the Horseman, War. Since Will’s escape from the Baltimore Institute for the Criminally Insane, he and Sam have been in hiding. They have a cabin, in the middle of nowhere, that keeps them off the radar; they find comfort in each other. But they can’t stay off the chessboard forever, especially not when Lucifer, wearing Hannibal Lecter as a vessel, is tearing the world apart around them. (33k, Sam Winchester/Will Graham)
Tumblr media
Impala's Run - cowritten with @quickreaver, art by adrenalineshots Sam and Dean Singer (aka Winchester) aren’t your average young Kansas farmers. Their home is very, very far from Kansas, in fact. Many light-years worth of ‘far’. The boys may look human, but certain talents set them apart: Dean speaks the language of machines, and Sam can heal through manipulating energy. Hidden on Earth by their father, their agricultural lifestyle gets rocked when warring alien races discover where they’ve landed, and Sam and Dean are forced to make the run of their lives. (23k, gen)
Tumblr media
All Our Wrath and Cutting Beauty - art by @quickreaver - Sam killed Alistair, but not before Alistair reminded Dean of who and what he’d become in Hell. Dean knows Sam can take down Lilith, and he’ll make damn sure Sam gets strong enough to do just that. They’ll stop the Apocalypse – together, no matter how many bodies stack up, or how much blood is spilt.(11k, horror)
Tumblr media
Diary of a Madman -Lydia’s newest patient, Sam Winchester, suffered from hallucinations, delusions, and regular bouts of insomnia. He also thought he was Lucifer. (4k, gen, horror)

PLEASE talk about kfam spn
your can of worms monsieur. under the cut.
(warnings for attempted suicide and the show has a plotline involving gaslighting, plus this, that i’m writing, has spoilers for major plot twists. if you’re for some reason listening to a podcast that will likely never be finished and has been on hiatus for nearly two years, maybe don’t click)
For the uninitiated, King Falls AM is a podcast starring Sammy Stevens, new in town radio host, and Ben Arnold, his producer. King Falls is a small mountain town that doubles as a hub for the supernatural, with werewolves, rainbow lights abducting people, Abe Lincoln's ghost in the library, and perdition wood. Sammy and Ben have the cynic/believer dynamic as they deal with the misadventures of the town, it’s solid.
Now, before I get into plot. I’m going to outright say it, Sammy Stevens and Dean Winchester are the same character. Every non-hunting au of Dean just gives me one Sammy Stevens in my grubby little hands. I’m opening on a list of sammy actions that dean is capable of.
1. fistfighting a politician on a public stage
2. mhm dad voice compilation
3. upon being asked “who is sammy stevens,” because he’s so repressed and secretive about his past, he doesn’t ever explain himself but is very hurt by the idea that people don’t trust him
4. growing his hair out and eventually ends up with a manbun. It’s so terrible to think about looking at but post confession dean i know you have it in you sir. I just know it.
5. hating cops (self explanatory)
6. inexplicable giddiness about santa and general enjoyment of the holidays
7. diner food appreciation
We are now entering spoiler and tw territory if you chose to click in against my advice. Sammy is just Dean post canon. If you follow his character arc you just get every Dean rescues Cas from the Empty fic I’ve read this year. Listen to me LISTEN. Love of man’s life is stolen from their home by a mysterious dark entity. Man gives up macho act to go search for him. Man gets so caught up in solving other people’s problems he doesn’t even say why he moved to town for nearly three years, even then only coming out because he was outed. Man attempts suicide via throwing himself into the void that took his lover. It is revealed that the dark entity can take the form of people it has, and mocks man with it. I love you baby please come home. Home is where the heart is and my heart is in the void with jack fucking wright. Like he was never even there like he was never mine. Tell me sobsicles didn’t write any of this. to remind sammy what he’s fighting for, they play an old speech of jack (his fiance) talking about the power of love. like okay cas-coded.
I have changed no facts about the story. I would love to do a kfam au of spn but it literally already is one. I need to do 0 (zero) work. If you say the words “dean changed his name and moved to a small town calling himself sammy stevens” you’ve done it. That’s it. You’ve got your king falls au. Makes me insane. I can’t write kfamnatural because it’s already written. balls to the walls. anyway anon i hope you’re seeing this and having a nice day. i know i didn’t really say anything new but i sure had fun writing about it! maybe one day i’ll relisten to kfam to do psychic damage and then write destiel parallels because they really write themselves.

SPN S1 Review
I honestly have no idea if this post is about to be hella long or moderate, but I feel like a lot of my feelings got aired out when I was reviewing each individual episode, so I’m just gonna dump the rest of my thoughts that I’ve jotted down while watching this season here. This is basically gonna be me saying, “Wow, this was interesting,” or, “This is similar to/different from later seasons because…” These are all coming from notes on my computer, so they’re half-baked. Nothing too fancy or analytical, but I’ll be doing one of these for every season.
Random thoughts:
I don’t like the monster-of-the-week, episodic format that much, and a lot of those episodes this season felt average in quality for me. However, when you don’t have much else to focus on besides an arbitrary goal of the boys finding John to kill something they know nothing about, it isn’t so bad. Filler episodes suck more later because they’re often completely disconnected from the main story, which isn’t the case for most filler episodes in this season. Plus, the main stories later have more involved goals for the season than this one did, which made the filler episodes later more annoying. For example, if Sam and Dean want to hunt a Tulpa at a haunted house because John is off doing something somewhere, that’s fine. Kill the time. But if Sam and Dean really need to figure out a way to kill God, like, now before Chuck decimates every fleck of existence he’s ever created, maybe don’t waste my time with an episode about a wood nymph, you know? If the stakes are higher, then the quality episodes shouldn’t appear with less frequency. All I’m saying.
The tone, acting, and writing of these characters is so different. Like, when you know a show intimately, these kinds of differences between one season and the next are natural to you. It’s not like I wasn’t aware that the boys looking for their father feels a lot fucking different than the boys having a kid, but when you actually let yourself be aware of how much the show has changed, it’s kind of crazy. Like, if I just think about it offhand, I’m like, “Yeah, this is Supernatural.” But if I break the fourth wall a bit in my mind, it’s like, “Damn, I really did watch these characters and their actors mature for fifteen years, didn’t I?” Crazy.
There are so many episodes that end with the Impala driving down the road. Like, an aerial shot of it. And if the very last scene isn’t that, then it’s probably the scene right before the last scene. Until the last few episodes, that is.
I don’t know why I’ve written this down, but it’s easier to remember episode titles in season one because you can match it to the creature without having to remember the plot. Like, “Oh, the Wendigo episode.” I’ve also said in this same note that the folklore plots died out later on in the series, which is true.
A quote from my notes: “The show really does feel better with Cas, huh?” Look, I’m not gonna say that the S1 finale didn’t slap, because it did. However, I will say that Cas can brighten any episode up, so, had he been in the series from the beginning, the season finale may not have been the only S1 episode to slap. Not that there weren’t other episodes that were good, but you know. Also, this isn’t to say that Cas should’ve been around the whole time because him coming into Dean’s life when he did was exactly perfect.
They do this later, too, but a handful of episodes in the early seasons will be like, “Here’s a girl. Now, one of you Winchesters, go bond with her this instant.” And it’s weird? You don’t need to bring a girl in just to make googly eyes at one of the boys? You could just give her the story she was supposed to have but minus all the flirting?
So, Sam is meant to be the central character for the first five seasons, right? Yes, Dean is supposed to be his equal; yes, he went to Hell and had that whole storyline; yes, he’s Michael’s vessel, but it was always really about Sam, you know? Sam was the one who had the connection to the biggest, baddest thing imaginable (at the time), that being Lucifer. Sam was the one chosen for Lucifer. Sam was the one with the psychic abilities and the one to drink demon blood and the reason Dean sold his soul. Dean is obviously a main character with his own story, but Sam was meant to be the special one, yeah? But even so, Dean is such a beautifully complex character because he wasn’t special. You can see that, even in S1—that his specialness came from his lack of central focus. It’s almost like the plot was saying, “Sam,” and Dean went, “I’m gonna cause problems anyway,” and that’s awesome. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I just feel like Dean is the most interesting character in the entire series, and he wasn’t even the one S1 picked out as special.
Sam’s psychic abilities seemed a lot cooler when you didn’t know as much about them. Like, yes, Sam having those abilities for the purpose of housing Lucifer is cool and all, but it felt so much more mystical when it just seemed like something Sam could do for some reason. Not that that would’ve been a better payoff than what we get—it’d be stupid for the story to say, “I know a demon chose you to be the vessel of Lucifer himself, but the psychic thing you can do? Just a coincidence”—but it’s some food for thought.
John is barely fucking there even though his existence permeates the entire fucking season. I thought he was so much more present than he was in this series. They treated him like they treated Cas. “We said his name a few times, that’s good right?” No. No, it isn’t.
I hate the pattern the episodes have in S1. It goes: location name, bad thing happens in said location, Sam and Dean talk about said thing, they go to said location, they research and maybe flirt with some random girl, they fight, they drive away in the Impala. Like, nearly every episode is like that.
Without demons in the mix that often, the tone of S1 is really different when you compare it to every other season.
Dean is a lot more emotionally vulnerable in this season. I mean, he’s not sitting down with Sam to talk about his feelings all the time, but his emotions are definitely closer to the surface. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he hasn’t had to emotionally shut down to protect Sam yet. Obviously, he represses things because of the way he was raised, and because he had to raise Sam; however, he still had John to lean on at this point. So, he hadn’t developed that habit of hiding his feelings and leaning on no one but himself yet as he did when he lost John. Because of that, he was able to be scared and tell Sam that he was afraid of losing his family and stuff like that. He becomes a way darker character in after John dies, and he more or less only leans fully on one other person for the rest of the series, albeit in a different way.
John saying in 1x21 that he wants Dean to have a home after Azazel is killed is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. For one, because John is aware that he deprived Dean of a real home, and by extension, is aware that Dean is damaged because of that. But also, it’s sad because Dean has lived 26 years of his life up until now without ever having a home he felt safe and loved in.
Dean running from a potential fight with Azazel in 1x22 is super interesting because he’s fighting to be a part of his family rather than simply fighting for them to be saved. Dean doesn’t want to die, isn’t willing to die. That’s something that definitely changes later. Big time.
Filler episode rate:
By my count, which admittedly might be wrong, there were 7 episodes that were primarily main story episodes this season and 15 monster-of-the-week/filler episodes.
Now, in the early seasons, it isn’t as easy to separate the filler from the main story because almost every episode will deal with character conflict that’s tied to what’s going on with the main story. However, I called it a filler if the primary plot was just a random hunt. For example, I called “Scarecrow” a filler because, even though Meg was introduced after Sam and Dean have a big fight, the main plot is hunting a god.
My bottom 5 episodes in order:
These next two sections are based on my ratings of these episodes from my reviews of every episode. I’ve just ordered them, with one being my least favorite/favorite episode this season.
5.) 1x07: Hook Man
4.) 1x03: Dead in the Water
3.) 1x02: Wendigo
2.) 1x13: Route 666
1.) 1x08: Bugs
My top 5 episodes in order:
5.) 1x14: Nightmare
4.) 1x06: Skin
3.) 1x15: The Benders
2.) 1x21: Salvation
1.) 1x22: Devil’s Trap
My top episodes for Sam:
This section and the next will just be me bringing up some good points of development for Sam and Dean throughout this season. I mean, of course they develop almost all the time, but these episodes are some of the best/most interesting. At least, in my opinion. If you want to read more about my reasons, check out my reviews. Just search for “spn s1 reviews” on my blog.
1x05: Bloody Mary - Sam’s psychic abilities got alluded to for the first time during this episode, but it also told us how much Sam blamed himself for Jessica’s death.
1x10: Asylum - Sam’s resentment for Dean is voiced, and though he’s under the influence of a ghost while he talks about Dean, some of it is supported by development in other episodes this season.
1x14: Nightmare - Sam bonds with Max over their shared abilities and pasts. We also get to see that Sam initially related his own trauma when growing up to Max’s, even though he acknowledged that Max had it worse at the end. It’s an interesting point of development that Sam saw his upbringing that way.
1x19: Provenance - Through Sarah being a part of this episode, Sam reveals that he sees himself as dangerous because the abilities he has has put the people he loves in danger in the past.
1x21: Salvation - Sam reveals that he’s willing to die, and by extension, risk his family to get the job of killing Azazel done.
1x22: Devil’s Trap - Sam has to choose between losing his family through getting his revenge or losing his chance at revenge to save his family.
My top episodes for Dean:
1x06: Skin - Dean’s abandonment issues are touched on for the first time.
1x09: Home - Dean shows fear when faced with returning home and dealing with the trauma of what he went through the night Mary died.
1x12: Faith - This is the first episode that we see a serious internal conflict in Dean about the worth of his life, which is interesting, because we can see in later episodes that he doesn’t want to die. However, his attitude in this episode seems to suggest that he doesn’t see his life as valuable.
1x18: Something Wicked - Honestly, this isn’t my favorite episode in the world, but it’s the first flashback episode of the series; in it, you’ll see the reason behind Dean’s feelings of responsibility regarding Sam.
1x21: Salvation - Dean insists that nobody will die to kill Azazel, showing that he wants to be a part of his family rather than just saving them.
1x22: Devil’s Trap - Dean shows a darker side of himself in an attempt to get John back, and his fears of being unneeded by his family are revealed as well as his fears of losing his family.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for this season’s review. I’ll rate this season in my series review that I’ll write once all this is over, but my impressions right now are that the first season of Supernatural was all right. It didn’t necessarily walk in a straight line, but it still felt like there was a definite destination. And, on top of that, the season ended in one of the most banger ways an SPN season has ever ended. The monster-of-the-week stuff has made most of the episodes this season ones I would probably not revisit, but S1 is definitely still special.
We’ll see if this changes later, but for now, my rating (and average, based on my ratings in my reviews) for S1 is ★★★☆☆.

Trying to semi-organize my thoughts on what exactly I am wanting out of spn fic and hm let's see. If I remember this post in the future, I may update it as I think of/on things and use this for reference so I, also, don't forget lol
Okay so, wants/likes:
Cas prominent. He is my, as I believe the kpop kids say, bias, so he is kind of non-negotiable. Sorry I am just not interested in fics where he is not prominent
Destiel not required but a good plus. Slight preference for intricate courtship rituals over ones where they figure things out ridiculously easy, unless it is established relationship. If the revelation comes too quick and easy then I get taken out of the moment :')
Optional: Angels treating Cas like their baby brother :3 Cas can be somewhat put out by it or not. Actually maybe bonus if he IS, bc they are all angels of the lord and relative by rank and experience, And Yet [whoever] just cannot help but be *points* Baby
canonverse is plus. canon divergence is okay but idk how close to canon I'm looking for, if it's too close to an episode rewrite I may not be into that either
casefics are cool. If it's got that canon-typical vaguely racist sht then pls warn me going in 😔
Found family. Family don't end in blood!!! Spn may forget this but I never will!!!
Any exploration of the whole fucky destiel thematic dichotomies, the whole free will vs destiny shit, stuff like words of prophets are written on subway walls, like.. idk, something that is intricate-rituals-gay and also makes me think of the philosophy of thehuman condition
corollary: slow burns ig?? or like mutual pining? canon typical thinking they are not worthy or that it is something they cannot have? canon typical did not realize until later but even then they have their individual canon-typical reasons for not acting on it, until they do bc it's fic so they can get together for realsies?
trope: Cas and/or Destiel being parents. I read one recently where it was like single dad Cas (to Claire and Jack) and then Dean came (back) into his life recently and I rly liked it
AUs are fine but highly subject to mood so we'll see. I did read a Star Trek-y AU I liked
I'm down for a lot of various other kinds of plot tropes and stuff, tho I want stuff that's more character and plot and less, like, pwp or fuck or die or that kinda thing
trope: curses maybe? I've found a couple curse-focused fics which were interesting
trope: Hurt/Comfort of the Cas whump kind but not necessarily have to be just Cas. But like.. u know when Uriel is beating him up and he looks all bloody and beautiful, or when he flexes his sexy angel powers and transports the Winchesters to the past but then collapses bc he overtaxed himself, or when he had that blanket on when he was suffering from the attack dog spell.... yeah,,,
trope: Anything with like the Winchesters caring about and caring for Cas. I just rly like Cas being taken care of :') pls wrap him in a blanket and pat his shoulder brusque-softly in ur emotionally repressed way Dean
bottom line my emphasis tends to be more on character and plot. I can't do plot without character, the relationships - whether ship or gen - are important to my enjoyment of a fic. I can sit thru a lot if the characters/character dynamics are good and chewy lmao like u can rly sink ur teeth into it
Bonus features:
eldritch horror angels are a bonus. Give me unfathomable trueform angels, I feel like I don't see that enough
wings* but.... caveat I like my spn wings more metaphysical than literal unless they're literal for a point, but this isn't set in stone either. I'm just... slightly tired of the physicality of the wings I guess. Like it's not the physicality that's the issue, ig, but when it's not treated as metaphysical (as well)
wouldn't mind some good endverse fics to chew on altho that might also make me sad
Cas being cute, a la crazy!Cas (who is.... so soft.... his innocence.. *clutches chest*) or like when Cas and Dean went to talk to that police guy and Cas was like you tell them it's angels and demons warring and he will tell you what he knows, or when Cas was like I'm gonna become a hunter :3, or interrogating the cat, or this is his serious face, yes
Powerful af Cas?? I miss season 4/5 Cas, when he was powerful and self-assured and wasn't "mentally deficient puppy" as Metatron meanly put it Cas. I feel like we get less of that as the seasons go on... I miss Cas being powerful and exuding energy that I'm sure is what had ppl assigning him as top energy. Like yes flex ur sexy sexy angel powers pls. There's one ep where my notes just say "ANGEL SMITE ANGEL SMITE / HEAAALING." Season 6 Cas where he is more out of touch with humanity and more brusque was also intriguing even tho he was like that bc of extenuating circumstances. But him flexing his sexy angel powers sure was sexy
Do not wants :(
Endgame human!Cas. Sorry I like short-lived Cassidy am more into feathered Cas than human!Cas. endgame human!Cas just isn't a good solution/happy ending to me, I don't think Cas needs to change to be able to live happily, and also I like to chew on the like philosophical underpinnings of an immortal/mortal pairing if that does get called into question lol
Human AU* but like asterisk bc I will take human AU if the plot is compelling and/or the characterization still manages to capture that je nais se quoi of canonverse. If they are, like, middle age dads being domestic, as an example, tho, then I can probs do that, I just like.. have limited capacity for career-based AUs for the sake of it, if that makes sense... But character/character dynamics trumps all, like I said lmao.. I've sat thru scenarios/setups that lowkey dealt me psychic damage bc of the nature of the set dressing, bc I checked it out out of morbid curiosity but the way they did the characterization ended up working for me
A/B/O - I am not seeking A/B/O at the moment
Hurt no Comfort - it would make me too sad :(
fics that treat angels like literal physical feathered beings. Idk I just like... want the whole angel thing to be treated more metaphysically. They are multidimensional wavelengths of celestial intent in holy corporate/business attire visages but they are still very much multidimensional wavelengths of celestial intent the ballpark size of our Chrysler building. If the wings are treated too literally I find I start getting bored, ironically. This is ironic bc I'm a slut for wingfic. But with spn I find that a conventional kind of wingfic/angel conception where the wings are just limbs with maybe some slight handwaved dimension-shifting stowing is.. slightly passe for my tastes. Unless it's like a forced manifestation or sth. Just like.. get the metaphysics involved, tie it to angelic grace. Something. Make is racy. But not too racy, the whole wings-as-erogenous-zones thing I'm a bit over too, xenobiology to humans would just be biology to these beings, it doesn't make sense to me to be like "oh they have a tail and it's EXTRA sensitive," like are you suggesting your arm/armpit is an extra special species-typical erogenous zone too?
deaging unless it ties to some other kinda plotty deal somehow ig? Like... I got invested in this fandom for them as they are now I'm not too interesting in unseasoned nibling vers
this maybe goes with the human aus tho that's a slight asterisk but hard line no high school aus. pls I cannot take the psychic damage that would deal to me personal
I have no conclusion even tho I feel like I need one. here's wonderwall? ig I can stumble around looking for reclists and see if anything sticks out, trawling thru tags so far has been a mixed bag
Anyway haha lol, stand-up-style-tone I mean I'm not asking for a lot amirite. Just a nebulously specific set of intricate rituals wrapped around a plot and also found family or something, like you know, just a trifling

Stranger Things: Resurrections (bringing back Billy...)
Since the Harringrove fandom has begun to demonstrate an amazing resilience to certain outside forces (thank you fandom <3 <3), I threw together a list of (some) resurrection precedents and possibilities, all “borrowed” from other actual media/TV/film canons adapted and applied to one Billy Hargrove: (Please do feel very free to add, expand, use, WRITEALLTHEFICS, etc. at will).
‘We Can Rebuild Him’: Still stuffed with remnants of the upside-down in his blood stream, the Russians scrape Billy up on their way out and rebuild him. Because alien world super serum goes a long way in building a super soldier (and unlocking more gates).  (Late 80s bonus points if they rebuild him with metal and wire that renders him part crude cyborg). (Re: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Captain America).
Old School Resurrection: Unable to accept that Billy is gone, Max and Eleven tap into the upside-down to bring him back to life. Suddenly re-thrust into his old life that still includes systematic abuse at the hands of his father and the responsibility of facing up to all his past mistakes (including all the lives he took while possessed), Billy’s not exactly grateful to be back. (Hardcore 80s points if they forget to get Billy out of the coffin first, thereby making him have to claw his way up to the surface alla every 80s zombie film). (re: Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
Super Powers Save the Day: Another secret child product of the MKUltra style lab experiments, Billy’s powers of cellular regeneration take a minute to repair that much damage, but revivify him in the morgue in a crazy cool special effects scene where he zips back up his body…(Also canonically explaining how a kid who gets shoved around by his father that often manages to still remain unbruised and shirtless as much as he does). (80s bonus points if filmed like a late 80s body horror film). (re: Clair Bennett, Heroes).
Cloning: Having been “impregnated” by the mind flayer (first with the ‘Alien’ face hugger reference, and then with the strange moment of the alien tentacle pushing into his chest…), Billy tries to kill the monster by sacrificing himself. Only the US government isn’t too keen on letting that kind of alien biotechnology go. They scrape up Billy’s body and clone him—a process that maintains the alien DNA that they can then harvest (and making Billy “patient zero” in their new attempts to use human hosts to create more).  Now confined to a laboratory cell, Billy has to fight to regain his own autonomy, not an easy feat when the military-industrial complex has labeled his body as government property. (Meta-Homage bonus points on account of Alien IV being one of Winona Ryder’s films…) (Ellen Ripley, Alien IV: Resurrection).
The Fake Out: Having made enemies of everyone in high school and knowing he’s in danger from both the law and his family (aka Neil), Billy takes the opportunity to fake his death. And yet, he can’t seem to stay away from Hawkins and the people he secretly cares about. (Re: Alison Dilaurentis, Pretty Little Liars).
Stranger Twins: Billy comes back as his brunette twin cousin to move in with the Hargroves and inexplicably looks exactly like him and might actually be him, because Hawkins is a weird dreamscape space (re: Laura Palmer, Twin Peaks)
Conspiracy!: With his body already broken and dying, Billy sacrifices himself to save Eleven, only to turn up (8) years later in a maximum security prison as a pawn in a larger government conspiracy (Cold War 80s bonus points for just being a larger government conspiracy…) (re: Micheal Scofield, Prison Break).
Deal with a “Devil”: Feeling guilty that they couldn’t save him, and unable to comfort Max, Elle uses her astral projection powers to make a deal with the Mindflayer or some other entity in the upside down to bring him back, but like all para-supernatural contracts, “the devil” wants to make a deal…(80s bonus points for really playing up any element of the “Satanic Panic” crisis) (Dean Winchester, Supernatural).
Time Travel: The alien tentacle pushed into his chest created a gateway that sucked his consciousness into the future, creating the dopple!Billy that greeted him in the upside-down, setting off a strange time line of events in which future Billy has to travel back in time to the 1980s to warn of or even jumpstart the Mindflayer takeover, as such a series of events is actually the only way to ultimately defeat it. Sacrificing his past-self to kill the monster, the ‘Billy from the future’ finds himself stuck in 1980s Hawkins, a changed man haunted by the things he’s seen (and the things he will see). Only now that this apocalypse has been averted, the things he can see in the future keep changing, not all of it for the best... (Essentially rendering Billy “The Party’s” Seer.)  (The Terminator (kind of)).
Alien Parasite: Closing The Gate weakens the Mind Flayer, but it doesn’t kill it, leaving the MF trapped inside the body of seventeen year old Billy Hargrove. Now both need the other to continue to survive, and Billy needs to learn to find some kind of harmonious compromise with his other-worldly parasite (Eddie Brock, Venom).
(More theme-borrowed than direct references:)
(Psychic) Coma: After the events of the mall showdown, Billy is left in a coma with a healing fractured mind. The only problem, his psyche effects the world around him as it processes all its demons. As the gang gets sucked into the weird hellscape of Billy’s internal life made manifest on the streets of Hawkins, they must help him fight all his monsters before his lifetime of aggregate trauma destroys the town.
The War isn’t Yet Won: Billy’s demise was greatly exaggerated. The calvary came in, the ambulances scooped him up, and he’s fine now—physically. But the experience changed him, has left Billy quiet and hollow. He can still feel the mind flayer everywhere, phantom crawling over his skin. There’s only one other person who can even begin to understand—Will Byers. Everyone thinks the two former MF meat puppets are simply suffering from PTSD, but Will and Billy know better. They’ve seen the future; what the Mind Flayer has in store. The two form an unlikely alliance as the only two in town who know the war isn’t over.
(My personal head cannon for Season Four):
Nightmares on small town streets: After the events of season three, the gang starts dreaming: weird twisted nightmares that seem more vivid than the waking world. What’s more, they all meet up in their dreams: Will, Steve, Eleven, Dustin, Nancy, Lucas, Max. etc. who all physically went to sleep in different towns/places, find themselves in a sick simulacrum of Hawkins at night. What’s more, is that when they call each other up the next day, they all remember it: they were there. Soon it becomes clear that this dank space is even more dangerous than they ever could have anticipated. Whatever happens to them in the dream space follows them through to the waking world. And something is after them. They need to figure out how to defeat the shadows, but until they do, there’s only one solution: don’t fall asleep. (Meanwhile, Max and Eleven see Billy in the dream world, seemingly living at the Hargrove’s house and caught in a robotic glitch cycle of abuse at the hands of a nightmarish hybrid of the Mindflayer and his father. They become determined to bring this Billy back with them, unsure if that’s even possible, but Max refuses to leave him there. But waking him up and pulling him out is a much bigger task than they can handle alone. They bring Steve.).
(i.e. I actually do really want a Nightmare on Elm Street season…).
(And really, if all else fails, we saw *one* Billy go down, yes, but what about *second* Billy…?)
