Sir carma, a pixel artist and game designer, initially got interested in pixel art due to the influence of 8-bit and 16-bit games as well as point and click games from Lucas Arts that he grew up with. However, he found it difficult to create pixel art himself, even though the idea of it was fascinating. Sir carma believes that voxel art is similar to pixel art, just in 3D, and although it is not as popular as pixel art, there is a small but friendly community of voxel artists. Sir carma uses Magica Voxel for his voxel art, as it gives him a feeling of sculpting with infinite legos, and he prefers its simplicity over Qubicle, which has more functionality and options. Sir carma's tips for working with voxels are to be careful about asset size and to keep the general scene simple, as the best voxel art is often simple yet detailed.
why did I choose to also do voxel art.
After looking at his art and overall style, I found that this kind of art would look great as a game. However, I also discovered that his elaborate design would not translate well into the kind of game I was planning to make. I did find his use of lighting and colours in his art to be great, as it added a level of realism to the artwork.
Brick Man, of the upcoming game Mega Man 11.
This was a fun little project. He’s not actually rigged for animation, but instead has each body part’s pivots aligned for proper movement. He’s theoretically very animatable!

CAT!
I love GaMERCaT. I’m so happy the webcomic is being made again. If you’re not familiar (it’s okay, I won’t judge), go check it out!

I couldn’t leave him like that. I’ve cleaned up just about everything. Most significant being the eyes and body. Version 2 was rendered in 3DS Max while version 1 was rendered in Qubicle. 3DS Max gave me much more control of the camera-- Qubicle doesn’t give any at all.
3/31 Design kills me why did I ever decide to do my entire thesis in voxels Oh well there could be worse ways to practice than reconstructing scenes from exo music videos Made with Qubicle 3.0, render in MagicaVoxel
