genre: modern!au, university/college, roommates with kaeya and diluc, master crepus is alive in this series eheh, diluc loves to cook and is good at it (malewife)
wc: 422
Ping! Ping!
Your ears perked up from the notifications. “Someone just emailed both of you!”
Kaeya sank further into the couch and shoved a pillow to his face. “I think I know who it’s from,” he groaned.
You picked up his phone from the side table and tossed it to him. “You haven’t even checked it and you’ve already got your nips all twisted.”
He threw the pillow in your direction and narrowly missed, earning him a small giggle.
Diluc pulled the ribbon of his apron decorated with flames and bold words saying “Take Me to Flavortown”. It was a white elephant gift from Kaeya last Christmas. But Diluc didn’t have the heart to throw it away, even if it was haphazardly wrapped with Sunday newspapers and held together with masking tape.
He wiped his hands on the towel before propping up his laptop onto the kitchen island. “It’s from father.”
You pushed Kaeya’s legs off your lap and stalked behind Diluc.
Curious eyes drifted across the screen. A soft tingle ran through him as you placed light fingers on the curve of his back.
Diluc read the email with a soft murmur. The smooth baritone of his voice was well practiced from his final presentation during spring semester.
It’s summer break now.
Which meant unwanted messages from the Ragnvindr household.
To my dearest sons,
I hope this message finds you well.
The Summer Solstice Celebration at Dawn Winery will be held this Saturday at early noon. I will be expecting both of you to be there, as well as a guest of your choosing.
Best regards,
Crepus Ragnvindr
You snorted, “Are you sure this wasn’t supposed to be sent to his employees?”
“What the hell is ‘early noon’?” Kaeya walked towards the pair and leaned his forearms on the kitchen island. “It’s either morning, afternoon, or evening!”
Diluc sighed, “You better not bail on me like last year!”
“Look, dude. I would too if I had to be in a room with rich people who’ve got sticks up their ass.” You sidled up next to Kaeya and propped your head on his shoulder.
“And it looks like we’ve got to take a plus one to bore.” Kaeya grinned. “Or to take to the storage room.”
You elbowed him. “Well, goodluck sweet talking one of your midnight lovers into a Bridgerton soirée.”
“Absolutely not!” Diluc slammed his laptop shut. “We’re taking someone more appropriate to meet father.”
You felt their eyes heavily bore into yours.
You shot up. “No, no, no! Not me!”

"hands off! I'm taken!" — diluc .
synopsis !! you pick up your drunk lover from the tavern
note !! I finally posted something! my schedule is still full but things should settle down more by september :> enjoy this fun fic!
contains !! gn reader, ft. kaeya and others! alcohol consumption, not proofread
Your lover rarely drinks. Scratch that, he doesn't drink at all if he could help it.
So whatever encouraged him to drink tonight of all nights was beyond you. It wasn't his shift in the bar, yet he insisted you shouldn't wait for him as he might come home late from the tavern. Apparently, he'll be meeting up with Kaeya, Jean, and a few others.
You're overjoyed, of course! It's not everyday your overworking lover decides to take a break and meet up with his old friends, much less those who are involved with the knights. You practically pushed him on his way to socialize and have fun.
Perhaps he had too much fun.
It was past midnight when you stopped by the tavern, seeing as you lived nearby anyway.
Diluc sat amongst a small crowd. You recognize them to be Kaeya, Jean, Lisa, Venti, and Rosaria, each nursing their own drink in their hands. What surprised you was that Diluc had a glass of his own— emptied, and that Kaeya was pouring him another round.
"Ah, it seems like your ticket home has arrived, D," Kaeya muses upon spotting you. The redhead only huffs in reply.
"What a joyous occasion! Come join us, (Name)!" Venti cheers, swinging around his large mug.
It's only when you approached the group did you notice your lover's unfocused eyes, glazed over as he blinks away at nothing.
"What did you do?" You raise an eyebrow, eyes narrowing suspiciously at Kaeya. The Cavalry Captain raises his hands in defense.
"You're accusing me? I'm hurt," He chuckles, "You and I both know he isn't so easy to trick into drinking."
You glance over at Jean, who gives you a sympathetic laugh, "It's true. Surprisingly, sir decided to drink tonight. It wasn't that much, I assure you."
"Wasn't that much, she says, yet he looks just about ready to pass out," Rosaria mutters, sipping on her own glass. You let out a sigh, seems like you'll be responsible for taking him home tonight. You're not bothered at all, in fact, you're a little glad he decided to let loose and have fun, no matter how unusual it seems.
If anything, it's a little funny to see him look gruff and cold, he doesn't even seem drunk until you notice the flush on his face and the spin in his eyes. Grabbing an empty glass and filling it with water from a pitcher, you gesture for the redhead to drink.
"Come on, 'Luc, drink some water and let's get you home."
He turns his head away to the side. You raise an eyebrow.
"'Luc, drink some water."
"No."
". . . You need to sober up–"
"No."
His head arcs further away from you, arms crossed. You glance at his face, is he. . . is he seriously pouting right now? Kaeya chuckles next to you. You aren't sure what kind of drunk shenanigan is going through his mind, but you decided to let it slide, opting to bring him home instead.
"Alright then, let's get out of here instead." With a hand on his shoulder, you gesture for him to stand but he wacks it away. Diluc? Your Diluc?? Wacked your hand away???
You blink at him before recovering to grab onto his arm, trying to pull him up, "Come on, 'Luc! We got to get you home!"
"No! Hands off!" He sluggishly pushes you, failing but he plops back onto his seat.
"What?"
"Hands off me! I'm taken!"
You freeze. The little group around you pauses as well. There's a loud snort in the air, presumably from Venti.
"Diluc, what?" You bite back your laugh. Laughing at the drunk is bad etiquette, you really shouldn't. You really, really shouldn't.
"I'm–" He slurs, facing you with a pointed look and a loopy glare, "Taken. Go find someone else to mooch."
Archons, help you not to burst out laughing in this situation.
Opting to giggle behind closed lips, you squat next to his chair, reaching out to cup his cheek but he scoots away from your touch.
"Diluc," You laugh, "It's me."
"Not- not interested."
"I'm literally your lover."
He blinks at you. You aren't sure if you got through him but he immediately stands upright, wobbling from the action. You catch him by the waist for support.
"Woah there, are you ready to go?"
"I'm going-" He tests his steps, "Going home to my darling, (Name)." With shaky hands, he pushes you aside, "I told you I have a lover!"
A loud laugh starts from behind you. Kaeya hunches over the table, gripping his stomach as the rest try to hide their chuckles behind their hands.
"Oh dear, my dear brother," The cryo user stands, wiping a tear from his eye, "Seems like you truly had too much tonight. This person here is assigned to take you to (Name)." The sly smile on Kaeya's face tells you to play along.
Diluc rubs at his eyes, everything seems to swirl, "Really?"
"Yes."
". . . Alright then."
Was he really that easy to trick? Your jaw could've dropped open. As expected of Kaeya who naturally dealt with all of Diluc's drunk shenanigans.
"Let's go then. . ." Diluc mumbles, glancing at you, "But no touching."
At his first step, he nearly trips over his feet if it wasn't for you grabbing onto his arm. You wrap it over your shoulder, pulling him upright.
"Surely, it's alright if I hold onto your arm?" You try to reason.
". . . Okay."
With a side glance at Kaeya and the rest, you nod them goodbye as they wave their pleasantries. Now that you're outside the tavern, you decide to take your drunk lover to your home nearby, a place he's frequently visited.
"Honestly, whatever made you drink so much tonight. . ." You huff, grabbing onto him and trying to get him to walk normally.
"My lover, you see. . ." He trails off.
"What about your lover?" You can't help but prod. Surely, you haven't done something wrong, right?
"Everything. . . Everything about them." Diluc mumbles, a sigh escaping him, "Just— amazing."
You can't help the way your lips sorts into a smile.
"Really?"
"Yes."
"That must be nice. Is that why you don't want to go home with me?" You can't help but tease as he glowers, turning his face to get a better look at you. You notice the way his eyes look clearer now.
". . . As mentioned, I–" A groan, "Am devoted to my lover, no matter how charming you look."
"Mhmm, sure, yeah." You laugh, taking in his compliment, "You're devoted, alright."
"It's true–" He pushes away from you to fumble with his coat in an enthusiasm that's only seen when he's drunk, "Would you like to see the ring?"
Ring? What ring? You freeze in your steps as he digs into his pockets, pulling out an enclosed little box with intricate carvings. He opens it to reveal a ring– one you've only ever dreams of having (and receiving from him). The details, a testament to how much he knows what you like, while mixing in his own interests.
Your heart skips a beat.
"'Luc–"
"Archons, I'm nervous," He groans into his hand, carefully closing the box despite his drunken mannerisms, "I can't even– can't even sleep at night thinking about it."
You're still in shock as you gaze up at him. Sure, you've talked about a future together, but it always felt so far away— Diluc was too busy, always with something else to prioritize and it didn't seem like the right time for him no matter how right it was for you.
"Is. . . Is that why you drank?"
He looks at you with a raised brow, "Nervousness is one thing. I needed everyone's advice as well." Your heart flutters, was he ever this thoughtful? The answer is yes. You reach out to him again, hands as shaky as his own, but yours shook in happiness.
"Diluc, I—"
He lurches, a heaving sound down his throat as if threatening to puke. You reach out, holding onto him again with a small laugh, "Alright, alright, let's get you home first, Luc."
He groans in reply, voice wobbly and weak, "I'm. . . taken. . . "
"I know, my love."
Sunshine filters into the bedroom and Diluc shuffles under the covers. His head was throbbing, his throat felt dry, he's reminded again why he never drinks.
Grape juice is definitely better. Grape juice is yummy. Why can't he make a grape juice relaxant? He sure as heck can, what's his money for if he can't fund an entire academic foundation focusing on the production of anxiety-calming juice?
Before he could even begin to think about the business prospects and expenses to spare, your footsteps catches his attention as you enter the room.
"Slept well?"
He brushes his hair back, sitting up groggily, "I've had better nights."
"Here, have some water." You gesture to the cup in your hands to which he drinks from obediently.
"Thank you."
"I'm just glad that you're allowing me to offer you water." You bite back a chuckle.
"What?"
Standing up with a hum and a shrug, you turn away from him, "I don't know. Last night, you wouldn't even let me touch you."
His eyebrows furrow together, "That's ridiculous. Why would I do that?"
"Apparently, you have a lover, and I was trying to tempt you away into my home~"
Diluc freezes like a deer in the headlights, heat rushing up his face, turning it a shade as red as his hair, "I. . . said that?"
You laugh, turning towards him as you begin to explain everything that happened in the tavern and how his friends reacted. This only helped to worsen his embarrassment.
"I'm going to kill Kaeya. . ." he mutters under his breath, hiding away his face before peeking at you, "And then I suppose you walked me home? Did I. . . say anything after?"
You spotted the way his eyes glance to his coat, hanging by the door. Your lips twitch into a smile.
"Nope. You were quiet the whole way home."
You can't wait to embarrass him even more after his proposal.

diluc ragnvindr, the pride of mondstadt- who in his own words "does not hand out trust lightly", crossing paths with some scrunkly tween who seems to be a carbon copy of his younger self.
and now for some inexplicable reason he is interacting with this gremlin, he is teaching the gremlin how to fight, he is taking the gremlin in and whoopsie daisies he's accidentally adopted the kid.
much to adeline's delight she's watching the crepus-diluc-kaeya saga all over again, except diluc is the crepus and the kid is diluc. kaeya is still kaeya though, because diluc's numerous (half-assed) attempts to keep the kid away from him failed miserably.
diluc's going through the Trials of Fatherhood, kaeya's being the Wine Uncle who takes the kid out for fun dates so they know to keep their standards high.
the kid is wreaking havoc, adeline is cleaning up their messes and trying to stop diluc's hair from turning grey, because if five years of constant trauma didn't do it, this kid definitely would.
diluc, huffing: i was not this difficult as a child
adeline: you were
kaeya: you were
crepus, from the grave: you were

Currently thinking about modern AU: hockeyplayer! Diluc and figureskater! Kaeya.
Hockey player Diluc who scared you at first because hockey can be rough, but instantly shot an arrow through your heart once he took off his helmet and revealed his handsome face. Hockey player Diluc who worries you because of the bruises and cuts he sometimes gets after a game. He can't say he likes it either, but what he does enjoy is the soft touches you give him, smoothing over his damaged skin. "Hm...? It hurts a little, but it's fine... thank you for taking care of me."
Figure skater Kaeya who looks so graceful on the ice and never let's anything affect his performance- even if you are in the crowd. He always denies when his brother says he's showing off too much lately, but he needs some way to impress you. Figure skater Kaeya who invites you out to skate with him, laughing when you fall on your butt. He helps you by pulling you up, but flusters you by doing the extra action of bringing you close to his chest. "There we go, see? Now you won't fall with me here~"
(Shall I write two fics on this)
Update: Here! & Here!

cw: alcohol and implied intoxication. slight abuse of power. based on this thought about kaeya, diluc, and servant!reader
as the sun sets, the sky a swirling blaze of pinks and oranges, kaeya departs from the ragnvindr estate.
“well, i’m full and content,” the calvary captain states with an exaggerated stretch, patting his lean stomach. he shakes your master’s hand before turning to you, chilly fingers brushing your wrist before caressing your palm.
“not just from the food,” he adds. he bends down to press a lingering kiss to your hand. his eye—an ice-capped wave of silvery blue—scans you hotly.
the smile that curls the corners of your soft lips is supposed to be a secret, but it illuminates your face. you spend the rest of the evening cleaning and tidying with a gentle hum; you aren’t even aware of how pleased you are.
but master diluc is.
before you return to the servant’s quarters for the night, you are called to diluc’s chambers. your stomach is in knots as you ascend the staircase and walk to his suite. rapping softly on his door, your mind flutters with concerns. but your train of thought is cut short when you hear the unmistakable baritone of diluc’s voice: “come in.”
when you open the door, you freeze. diluc lounges in an armchair with a glass of dandelion wine in hand, legs spread wide apart, dressed in simple breeches and a black shirt—completely unbuttoned. his fiery mane engulfs his back.
diluc breaks the tense quiet. “i called you up because i need assistance,” he explains. his words flow easily, a bit blurry around the edges—much like the claret liquid that sloshes around his glass. he inclines his head toward the wooden table beside him, a hair comb the only object on the surface. “comb my hair, please,” he murmurs.
you blink a few times. your master’s irises are muddy, hot crimson shrouded in smoke—it’s an emotion you are scared to put a name to. you bow your head and clear your throat. “of course, sir.”
the air is stifling as you sweep back his tresses. you start at his hairline, fingertips burning his skin, nails scratching at his scalp. a heady sigh leaves diluc’s chest and fills the silence, stoking the flames that lick at your belly. your hand trembles as you begin to detangle his locks with the comb, exceedingly gentle in your strokes.
you can’t see the triumphant smile that rests on your master’s lips.

"Can I get an angel shot?"
A/N: I'm... not good at writing genshin characters but at least I tried. For those of you who don't know, asking for an angel shot means that you don't feel safe. In almost every bar, if you ask for an angel shot they know it means you are feeling unsafe/uncomfortable.
"C'mon let me get you another drink!" You force a smile and glance around to see if anyone was looking your way. Unfortunately, nothing.
"Uh, sure. I'm gonna use the bathroom really quick." You get up, trying to resist the urge to sprint your way to the counter.
"Oh, hey! I didn't-" Venti starts, drinking his own glass of wine while Diluc had his normal look of disdain on his face.
You cut Venti off with a quick "Diluc, I need an angel shot." And Diluc's face turns from disdain to surprise to anger. He allows Venti to guide you behind the bar, a rare occurrence, and Diluc slams down the glass he was cleaning along with the rag and marches to the table you were at previously.
"Sir, I'm going to need you to leave." Dilucs voice reaches your ears from the pure authority and you stay behind the bar, Venti forgetting his drink on the counter.
After some shouting, Diluc is dragging the guy out himself, shoving him out the door forcibly. He grabs the door handle, closing it and turning, sighing in disgust.
As he returns behind the bar, he glances at you. "Are you alright?" You nod, still rather shaken up and Diluc nods. Venti invites you to sit next to him at the bar.
You place your head on the counter and sigh, hiding your face in your arms. You feel Venti place a hand on your back and rub in comforting circles. "Hey, why don't I buy you a drink. Anything you want!"
You raise an eyebrow at him and remark "With what money?" Causing Venti to pause before giving his typical 'ehe' to write you off.
"Either way, it's on the house. He's been kicked out of here before. I intend for this to be the last time." Diluc throws the rag over his shoulder and leans with his arms on the bar. "What'll it be?" He asks and you shake your head.
"I think I'll just wait here until he leaves." You shrivel in on yourself until Diluc scoffs, causing you to look over at him.
"As much as I detest admitting it," The door slams open. "I had some assistance."
The well known calvary captain walks in with a exaggerated wave and sits down next to you. "And here I was thinking you wanted nothing to do with the knights of Favonious! Who could've guessed? Bard, snowflake." Kaeya greets Venti and you, using your respective terms of endearment. "Anyway, I doubt he'll be back. At least once he's not frozen in place anymore. I may have gone a bit over board by freezing his feet to the pavement."
Diluc let's out a humorless laugh and a small, yet rare, smile crosses his face. "I can't say it's not deserved."

it had been about a year since your move to the nation of justice, and it had been nothing short of excitement and entertainment. you met a blonde traveller and his glutinous pixie through lyney, after the two of them had their name cleared. you found them to be quite good company, despite the floating fairy’s consistent whining.
freminet didn’t talk to you for awhile after his and his family’s identity had been exposed to fontaine, and you couldn’t blame him. you had deep rooted issues with the fatui, even if freminet didn’t know it at the time, however what he underestimated was how much you valued him over his background.
it took some pushing (forced interaction) and a lot of tears, but freminet eventually broke down into your arms. you could only hold his head against your form, sheltering him away from the rest of the world as he cried in your living room.
the two of you were the dubbed ‘the second duo of fontaine’ with lyney & lynette holding the original title. the two of you were inseparable after the fatui incident, and him going into the fortress of meropiede was pure TORTURE as he forbid you from following him. (after finding out he almost drowned you had to be practically dragged away from the gates, the twins fearful of what you might do to wriothesley.)
you had officially met the knave whilst outside the palais mermonia, a ‘wrong place wrong time’ kinda situation. you had strolled by after she had finished talking with aether, and formally introduced herself as ‘father’ to you. almost pissing yourself, you converse for awhile before she takes her leave. you’ve never been so uncomfortable in your life.
you just interacted with a fatui harbinger.
needless to say, you’ve had quite the adventure since your arrival in fontaine, and as news spread of the flood around teyvat like wildfire, it caught the attention of two certain brothers.
“have you heard about the flooding in fontaine?” the drunkards would gossip among themselves, and diluc could only hold his breath in worry. kaeya had left months ago in search of you, and he could only sit back and wait for the good news.
it was decided between the two that you’d most likely talk to kaeya before diluc, so he was the one to go on the hunt whilst diluc held the fort down in mondstadt, lying to the costumers that the captain was on “knightly duties in sumeru.”
kaeya was in a constant state of alert, searching nation after nation for your whereabouts. he tried liyue and inazuma, however both had turned over fuitless.
he had multiple run-ins with aether and paimon throughout his journey, and had to come up with lie after lie to explain why he wasn’t in mondstadt. if it got out that they were looking for you, word might spread, and you might end up hiding from him. it was better nobody but the two brothers and jean knew what they were really up to.
eventually, the arrival of lantern rite had come, and as the captain happened to be restocking in said nation at the time, he concluded that if you were nearby, he might just be able to see you.
and attending lantern rite you were.
the family of three had invited you to join them on their trip to liyue for the lantern rite, and you had graciously accepted.
you had changed over the year you had been in fontaine. your outfit had gone from a traditional mondstadt look, to something more fontainian. you learnt the art of the sword, thanks to lynette teaching you personally. your grumpiness had somewhat faded, and you were no longer as easily irritated. you were more level headed and calm, adapting lynette’s mannerisms somewhat.
fact is, you had become almost a new man. you were happier, brighter and stronger. you could now defend yourself, and had the protection of three fatui members wherever you went. you had the spina di rosula AND the former archon in your corner (knowing what it feels like to lose everything, you made it your goal to become furina’s first real friend), and you even had the infamous traveller in your favour.
life was finally starting to look better for you, and so, you decided to take the risk and venture out once more, this time, with your family by your side.
and so, off to liyue you went.
you travelled around for awhile, stopping by qiaoying village and picking up some snacks. along the way, you end up running into the traveller, as well as a new face. the boy with them is young and jumpy, as well as overwhelmingly extroverted. in a way, he almost reminds you of your frosted companion. not in personality at ALL, but in spirit, almost.
you all introduce youtselves, and lyney puts an emphasis on the fact you’re their “fourth” member of the family (unbeknownst to you and freminet, lyney and lynette’s plan to get the both of you together was already set in motion.)
freminet holds your hand the entire way back to liyue harbour, uncomfortably shifting as gaming attempted to conversate with him. noticing his hesitation, the pyro user leaves your friend to be and ends up becoming besties with lyney along the way. after making it to the harbour, you privately apologise for freminet, explaining how he’s quite shy but not at all uncomfortable with the wushou dancer, to which he was greatful for. poor gaming was under the impression freminet disliked him. :(
you walked around the harbour with the fatui trio, grasping freminet’s dainty hands in your own. you admired the lanterns that danced in the sky, almost as if they were stars.
“are you sure you don’t wanna cover up (Y/N)? what if we run into one of your brothers?” freminet asks. the three knew of your situation. after they had explained to you in detail why they were apart of the fatui, you revealed your own background. about your father, your brothers and even about your almost-death encounter. out of respect for the anemo archons anonymity , you left out the part where he saved you. instead, you said a humble bard had found you, and took you home.
“even if we do run into either of them, we’ll take good care of you (Y/N). you don’t have to worry about them.” lynette pats your shoulder comfortingly. you had made peace with what had happened to you back mondstadt, but you were unsure if you were ready to face them again. they were your first family, but if you had to choose right now which family you’d want to spend the rest of your days with…
you’d take your fontainian family in a heartbeat.
“(Y/N) will be fine with us by his side! wont you, (Y/N)?” lyney reassures excitedly, stuffing his face with the liyuen cuisine that you had oh-so-generously paid for.
“i’ll be alright, i doubt they’d come anyways. diluc is too busy with the bar and kaeya probably doesn’t give enough of a shit to bother.” you reply, ending the conversation.
as the night continued, the lanterns above continued to float around, yet never quite leave the harbour. it’s almost as if as much as they attempted to, they couldn’t detach themselves from their origins.
the days went on, and you enjoyed your well-spent time in the region of geo. you met some friendly faces, such as a horned-adeptus, the conqueror of demons, a stubborn old bird refined older adeptus, a young cook whom lynette got along quite well with and many more. you are various different foods, wore traditional liyuen hanfu’s, and even got to help the traveller in his quest to help restore the bond between gaming and his father.
the second last night of your stay in liyue began, and you’re greatful you decided to stay as long as you did. that might, you got to witness the most beautiful dance you’d ever seen.
gaming was almost one with the lanterns, and he was glowing. you were so invested in the dancing, you didn’t notice how you took freminet’s hand in your own. your companion, on the other hand, could only watch your eyes.
they gleamed with excitement, and freminet wanted nothing more then to share that joy with you.
you knew you loved freminet from the moment he broke down into your arms. you knew as you cradled his puffy cheeks in your hands, almost kissing away his gentle tears.
you knew you loved freminet as he fixed your diving gear, triple checking to make sure it was on before he took you diving with him.
freminet knew he was in love with you when you told him that you look past his line of work. and how you know that he isn’t a bad person.
freminet knew he was in love with you as you took his side in an instant when some fontainian’s were harassing him after the word had spread.
“(Y/N), can i talk to you once the dance is over?” freminet doesn’t fail to notice you snap out of your trace to fully engage yourself in what he had to say.
it was almost as if you stopped the world just for him.
the dance ended, and you took the cryo users hand in your own as you took him somewhere more secluded. you didn’t fail to see the both of the twins shooing away anybody in your vicinity to give you both some privacy.
you knew this was your chance, the chance lyney and lynette had given you.
“(Y/N), i wanted to talk to you about something.” the boy before you stutters. it’s been awhile since he’s stuttered around you. he knocked that habit with you only a few month into your friendship, however none of this phased you. you knew what he was going to tell you.
“(Y/N) I-” freminet is cut off by a gentle hand to his mouth. your face contortd into an almost annoyed yet concerned look, seemingly displeased at the interruption of freminet’s confession. confused, freminet looks in front of you, too distracted by the beating of his heart to notice what you’re staring at.
then, he then hears it.
footsteps.
“(Y/N)?”
“k-kaeya..?”
the pure look of terror struck across your face had freminet switch up almost completely. he straightens up, before he steps in front of you in an almost protective manner. he was ready for combat.
then you notice it, three more pairs of feet come charging in behind you. in a flash, freminet’s claymore in drawn, and his gaze flickers both behind you and in front. you see the twins chasing another figure, one you can’t quite make out.
and then, as if the situation couldn’t get much worse then it already was, you see a shade of red emerge from the black mystery man.
it’s almost like a scene from a movie. in front of you, you have your almost-lover threatening your (former?) brother with his claymore.
on the other hand , you had your own flesh and blood behind you, with the twins behind him, a look of apology spilling across their face.
“i’m so sorry (Y/N), we let your name slip when talking about the two of you, and we didn’t even think that these two would be listening in on us-” lynette begins, before she’s cut off by diluc.
“listening IN? you fatui SCUM have been in the steam bird left and right with your scandals! i was only making sure you wernt about to hollow up the harbour.”
“excuse you?? you have NO RIGHT to call US scum when you barge in on a PRIVATE moment”
“lyney, now is REALLY not the time for this.”
“i’ll do whatever the fuck i want if it involves MY brother.”
“YOUR brother!?”
“ENOUGH!”
you finally decide to step in. “diluc, kaeya, what the fuck are you two doing here??” you begin.
“me and our dear diluc decided to take a bit of break, and when we heard these two looney magicians mention your name, we had to know if it really was you.” kaeya’s statement is almost humeruous, but the tone in his voice is enough to tell he isn’t fucking around.
“so what if it IS me? why the fuck would you care? you two bastards haven’t seen me in a year.”
“because, (Y/N). you’re OUR family, and we’re here to take you home.”
“the FUCK did you just say?? YOUR brother?? last time i checked, lynette and i are (Y/N)’s family after you practically NEGLECTED him!” lyney spits out.
by now, the two brothers are on one side, and the fontaine twins are on your other side. only freminet, who’s grip on his claymore hasn’t faltered, stuck next to you.
“i doubt you fuckhead fatui members want anything from my brother then to extort him. you don’t give a shit about him!” diluc reprimands.
“if (Y/N) wanted anything to do with you then he would’ve left fontaine ages ago.” lynette spits out, glaring at the two brothers.
you’re about to step in again, before freminet finally decides to speak up.
“(Y/N) may have grown up with the two of you, but at the end of the day, the both of you ended up hurting him without apologising. we know everything about what happened to the three of you, and on behalf of the fatui, we apologise for the loss of your father. loosing family is hard, and us raised in the house of the hearth would know that more then anybody.”
“but when (Y/N) accepted us for who we truly are, he became apart of our family. he chose to stay with us, and to support us from anybody who had something to say. it’s not just us either, (Y/N) has many friends and companions in fontaine, whom cherish him deeply. that is a fact, and it doesn’t matter what you think.”
all of you stand and listen to what freminet says. throughout the speech, he grabs your hand once more, just like when he did during the wushou dance.
and you fall in love with him all over again.
“he talks to us about you two a lot, and it’s clear to anybody that despite all that you’ve done, (Y/N) still cherishes you two very much, but he’s not ready yet. if you truly care about your brother, perhaps.. you’ll wait?” he questions, awaiting the brothers responses.
it’s quiet for a bit, with yours and freminet’s hands still intertwined. lyney comes to stand next to freminet, and lynette comes to caress your shoulder.
diluc’s heart aches. he wants nothing more then to hold you in his arms once more, like he used to when you cried as a child. he had been so worried about you, that he had completely forgotten what you looked like smiling. diluc knew he was being too harsh, but seeing you being cradled by the very organisation he despises made him want to sob.
but now, you stand before him, a happier and brighter man. your eyebags have cleared up, and your smile now reaches your eyes. he also can’t help but notice the almost romantic tension between you and the diver.
kaeya feels proud. he’s had a lot less to say then his brother, but deep down he knows that you’re happy. kaeya never truly intended to take you home like diluc had wanted. don’t get him wrong, kaeya also wanted nothing more then to have you in mond city once more, however his only intentions were to make sure you were safe. that would be enough.
as the silence comes to an end, diluc speaks gently.
“(Y/N), when you’re ready to come back to the mansion, we’re only a door away.”
he then takes kaeyas shoulder, before heading back to where they had come from. kaeya gives you a gentle nod and a smile, before he followed your crimson brother.
and then, as they disappeared from view, you fell to your knees. years of sorrow awoken within my you, and you felt yourself crumble before the three.
in an instant, they were by your side. all weapons had been put away, and only comforting arms awaited.
you feel yourself nuzzle into freminet’s shoulder, him arms wrapped around your body. lyney and lynette held your shoulders as you sobbed.
everything freminet had said was true. you did want to forgive them, but you weren’t ready.
you knew you had more healing to do before you could officially reconcile with the two, however in your heart, you knew it was possible.
you all eventually went back to the hotel you had been residing at. it was quaint and peaceful, and it’s soothing atmosphere helped your pounding headache.
as the four of you readied yourself for bed, a knock at the door surprised you all.
lyney, being the oldest, took it upon himself to open up in case of a possible intrusion, however only a bard dressed in green garments and a lyre in hand stood before him.
“hey (Y/N)! wanna have a chat?”
Tumblr media
did i still leave on a bit of a cliff hanger? maybe. but i was gonna leave it at the kaeya-(Y/N) part so be greatful 😔

another idea i’ve been chewing on: genshin characters + found family
Think of it, Diluc finding some teenager who’s just lost everything and he’s reminded of himself (before he became an actual terrorist). So instead of watching this poor kid turn into something he knows they’ll regret later, he takes them in.
He won’t ask the kid to open up to him, but any bite of information he’ll hold onto so tightly, it’s almost a miracle he doesn’t have constant headaches. Favorite food? it’s an almost every day meal. Favorite song? girlie he’s playing it on vinyl. And when the kiddo finally opens up, he’s there to listen, there to gently wrap his hands around and whisper that things will get better- he’s there to do the things he yearned for when he was in that position.
—————
We’ve already seen Kaeya’s padre skills with Klee, and here’s the thing, he definitely sees all of the mistakes he’s made with Diluc any time Klee brings up anything she gets upset about.
Imagine he finds a teenager who’s basically gone through same trauma different flavors that Diluc had gone through- sibling betrayal and dead parents. Gods would he immediately jump on that bandwagon of doing everything he should’ve done, everything he wanted to do- and still wants to do with Diluc.
Imagine that this traumatized teenager brings these two little shits back together because Diluc realizes what Kaeya is trying to do- better yet, if Adelaide realizes.
———————
Itto with a little tyke who’s been abandoned from something they couldn’t control. He’d immediately bring them to Kuki asking if the literal child could join them.
When she says no, it would be better to find the kid a stable home, he then realizes that he’s the “boss”, and doesn’t have to ask for permission.
Itto would feed the kid whatever they want, which depending on their age, might not go well. I could also see Itto just hiding the child away from Kuki until they get sick, and he then cries to Kuki about how he killed his baby.
Nicknames— Little Oni, Little boss, he’d call you an “Itto”

- but it’s still all like a side plot yk????
- I hope that wasn’t confusing 😭😭

it's fluff and angst but, minors still do not interact!
i still can't get over that official genshin art i posted a few hours ago so here's my brain rot lmao. it isn't really anything particular or meaningful, i guess, but i wanted to write something for the art. my brain was practically itching so i'm probably going to make it up as i go :) also my writing style is probably going to be weird in this.
warning(s): character death mentioned briefly, very light angst.
Tumblr media
it's not that diluc likes to make you worried. but he had his reasons as to why his heart fluttered when you dashed towards his cupboard to bring out the first aid kit after manhandling him into sitting down on his bed, scolding him a bit as you pulled out the antiseptic and cotton.
he doesn't remember his mother well. actually, he doesn't remember his mother at all. the closest person to a mother for him was adelinde.
who also happens to be the first person he remembers being worried for him. he was chasing after a few crystalflies in the winery yard and, just when he was about to catch one, he tripped over his own feet and fell into the ground.
adelinde rushed to him mere seconds after that, worry written in the most clear handwriting across her face as she picked him up and rushed inside the winery to treat the scrape across his knee and a few smaller wounds on his hands.
he doesn't remember much after that other than being bribed by a glass of grape juice to stop crying and waiting for his father to finish his work to get back home.
his father and kaeya were the other two who he remembered being worried for him. at least when they were kids for the latter.
one instance that stood out particularly for him was when kaeya had lost the coin crepus had given to him. their father told kaeya to keep it safe and that it was a gift from someone special. diluc does not know to what extent it was true but thinking about it as an adult made him realize that crepus was probably trying to ease kaeya's insecurities and fear.
they visited jean that day and kaeya refused to play anything with them and did not part with the coin even for a second until they finally lured him in to collecting flowers to make flower crowns for adelinde.
kaeya had only realized that he lost the coin after they reached home. diluc saw his little brother visually become smaller and more frigid the moment he realized that. he left dinner midway and dragged himself to their room pulling up the curtains around his bed.
diluc remembered trying all the tricks he knew to get him out but none of them worked. he even offered to let kaeya braid his hair! the only thing remaining was going and finding the coin.
so he sneaked out after making sure that adelinde had slept and did exactly that.
their father had never looked older than at the moment when he returned home with kaeya's coin in his right pocket. his brother's face was completely swollen and blotched, tears still leaking out of his eyes.
he practically felt the worry radiating off of his father's body as soon as he was pulled into a bone crushing hug. kaeya sneaked his hand into one of his own sometime during it and did not leave it until the next morning.
adelinde had banned him from leaving his room days after that. his adopted brother stayed with him the entire time. (well, at least kaeya still seems to have that coin, it wasn't all for naught).
after the death of his father, it felt as though there was no one really left to worry about him anymore. adelinde was still there for him, he knew that, but that still didn't help dissipate the feeling.
it was especially rough during his visit - for the lack of a better term - to snezhnaya. the fresh grief made everything feel more painful than it actually was. an amalgamation of varying emotions; everything from anger, frustration, sadness, emptiness, guilt, the need for revenge, a sense of loss and many more that he couldn't even name muddled his head and stuck with him until years to come.
so yes. diluc doesn't really like making you worry, but he also can't help falling in love just a bit more everytime you treat his would with such worry and pain reflecting in your eyes as though it was you that had gotten hurt. it almost numbs his own pain and all he can thinking about is caging you in his arms and never letting you go.
the tenderness with which you kiss all his scars everytime he gets a new one has his heart pounding into his chest with such speed that he was sure it wasn't actually good for his health, especially when you put extra time and care into caressing that big gash across his back.
he can't help melting into spot when you cuddle his head into your neck and caress his scalp with your fingers, after taking care of all of his wounds, old and new.
he can't be more grateful than at the moment when you hum a soft tune into his ear to help him sleep better, hand still entangled with his hair and body wrapped around him, hiding him away from the entire world.
you are his home.

little star — diluc 。
synopsis!! everyone knows the creator doesn't favor diluc (everyone is wrong).
cw !! gn reader, reader is peak diluc simp 😐 somewhat self-aware characters, mild sagau themes (not too much), reader is recognized as the player, reader is a little shy at first. angst with reverse comfort!
note !! the plot feels a little everywhere but i tried to organize it as best as i can, i think i got carried away eheh honestly doesn't feel up to my standards but it was pretty enjoyable to write
word count !! 2.8k something
"No, it's definitely Outrider Amber, she was the first to ever be favored."
"Are you kidding me? Outrider Amber may be the first, but sir Kaeya was definitely loved. Have you seen the sword he was gifted with?" One growls.
"It's the Acting Grand Master Jean!" Someone slams the table with his beer mug, "Twice was she bestowed with fallen stars of gold."
"I'd say that wolf boy in the woods seem lucky."
"It has to be Bennett. I don't know why but that kid has two crowns! Two!"
"You're all missing out on Miss Lisa!"
"Stop, stop! You rowdy drunks! Every vision holder in Mond has been granted favor, this is just impossible to decide!"
There was a pause. "Well. . . not every." Someone mumbles under their breath.
"Not every? Who's the poor allogene that couldn't even get the Player's favo—" Shushing sounds break his sentence, the men glare at their companion, pointing to the redhead behind the bar.
It's useless, really.
Diluc has been listening in the entire time. He can't really help it when their voices were loud enough to reach where he stood. Still, he was merciful and pretended not to hear. He's not exactly bothered by what they're saying. It was the truth, after all.
For two years, vision holders all around Teyvat were being granted favor.
It often begins with a meteor shower gracing the sky.
A star gently falling into the hands of a vision holder, embracing them in warm light.
They call the ethereal sensation as something akin to "coming home".
The favored would then be given different things; quality weapons, enhanced abilities, beautiful crowns— Some allogenes were even gifted summer apparel (Mondstadt is proud that their Gunnhildr sisters were one of the very first). Even their equipped wings would change into ornamented works of art!
It's been two years, and it seems like every allogene he knows of has received the Player's grace.
He supposed he just wasn't favored. It isn't too difficult to believe that he isn't likable.
He convinces himself it's fine.
It's fine if his summoned weapon is a cheap claymore made of scrap metal. It's still efficient to have the extra blade while he manually carries around another claymore (commissioned from Wagner as the best money could buy). Or that his abilities can only be improved through hardwork, unlike the many who broke the limits of their power through your favor.
It's fine.
As the bar goers leave for the night, as Venti and Kaeya wave around their almost divine-looking five-star weapons to show the crowd, and as he's closing up the tavern and retreating to his upstair quarters for comfort, he convinces himself that the he'll be okay on his own.
The arrival of the Creator was festive and grand; The day the sky parted itself and glowed as the brightest of all stars fell with grace into Mondstadt's very own Windrise.
Teyvat rejoices in the ecstatic ideal of being loved.
A meeting of vision holders was quickly held in the Cathedral, discussing immediate plans as some of the most favored (Venti, Jean, Kaeya, Albedo to name a few) went ahead to fetch the Creator from the large tree.
While Diluc was often the center of any other meeting due to his authority and influence, this was something he chose to step back from. Standing by the windows, away from the meeting, he watched on as Eula and the rest conversed around the circular table.
He isn't even sure why he's invited. Perhaps they felt it was obligatory for vision holders, regardless of favorability? Then again, he could always offer a fraction of his mountain-loads of wealth to help with the festivities.
At least he's competent at being a wallet.
As the others pull out their crowns and stars, weapons and artifacts, eager to thank the one responsible for the gifts, an unknown emotion bubbles in his stomach. It's faint, but it's there.
He tries to look away.
"Everyone, everyone! They're entering the gates!" Fischl announces uncharacteristically to the room as her eye glows brightly, undoubtedly looking through Oz's eyes from the sky.
"We should wait by the statue to welcome them, right?" Barbara chirps in, hands clasped and wavy hair bouncing with every step.
Diluc watches as people steadily leave the room, following last as they walk down the steps to greet the approaching group. Some civilians gathered to see the scene, others didn't really understand what a Player or Creator was to a vision holder, while Diluc—
Diluc stood by the steps to see them crowd around you.
You, surrounded with words of gratitude and cheerful squeals. He sees the smile on your face and feels relief that you don't seem too overwhelmed.
He leaves the area without a second thought.
He doesn't exactly see you around the next few days. With Mondstadt celebrating a new festival, the taverns were always full and busy with customers (both local and foreign). You were probably busy too, spending time with the different allogenes and entertaining those who came from Liyue to meet you. He's heard of a funeral consultant with three crowns (are consultants that admirable of a job to you?) and an adeptus gifted with various five-star polearms (this was understandable for the adepti, unlike the consultant).
He doesn't expect to see you at all until you leave for the next nation, honestly.
That is, until the tavern settles into a more peaceful atmosphere and Jean rushes in with several other allogenes. It's unusual to see his childhood friend in the tavern; still, he greets her amicably and asks what brings her here.
"(Name) will be coming here soon with Kaeya and a few others. It's a little impromptu, but we were hoping for a place to settle in with drinks. Perhaps try some apple cider." She smiles, taking a seat by the bar.
(Name)? Jean was already on a first name basis with the Creator?
Diluc thinks perhaps Jean truly is the favorite, she does have a few golden stars in her home.
Somehow, it's not surprising at all to know that his apple cider was famous enough to drag you in. At least there's something about the Dawn Winery in your favor. He promptly gets his employees to work, clearing a few tables near the bar, rearranging the furniture to give space good enough for a group.
Your entrance into the bar was just as lively; with your favored allogenes chatting away with you, everyone falling into place at different parts of the tavern, ordering drinks and meals.
He's glad you enjoy apple cider.
You're trying to play it cool, really. Trying your best not to get overexcited and glomp everyone and everything.
You're taking things step by step as you converse with Jean, Lisa, and Albedo; as you share meals with Barbara and Sucrose; as you play with Klee and Diona; tour the city with Fischl and Bennett. There's plenty of time to meet everyone and your schedule has been filled to the brim with all the fun your having.
You'll see that glimpse of red hair again— one that was lingering by the Cathedral staircase. Diluc doesn't like crowds, so it's fine that he isn't approaching you. It's also fine that he hasn't visited at least once, unlike the several raging from Liyue to Sumeru who took the journey to meet you early.
Diluc is too busy a person to meet you; whether it's because of the winery or his darknight hero duties, you wouldn't dare take his time.
— but when are you supposed to give him all the gifts you've brought for him???
Your determination to build him up in one go, from Talent levels to Constellations to Artifacts and Weaponry, all came down to this moment — and the man was simply nowhere to be seen!
An unknowingly loud sigh escapes your lips, catching the attention of the Cavalry Captain next to you.
"Now, what's got our (Name) so down in the dumps?" Kaeya hums, glancing at your face as you stutter a response.
"Aah it's not that, it's just. . ."
Your brother is too busy, I just want to meet him!!
"I'm thirsty." You deflect, looking around for a stall. The streets of Mond were nothing like the minimized version you see in the game; with the city being ten times larger than what you remembered it to be.
"Oh! Oh! Klee suggests apple cider!" The little girl giggles, running around your legs in excitement, "Angel's Share is nearby and big brother Albedo alwaaays takes me there for apple cider!"
Angel's Share. Bartender. A great idea has appeared!
At the excited look on your face, Jean walks up ahead of you.
"Why don't I go and inform the tavern to prepare us a space first, it would save us the waiting time."
"That would be great, Jean!"
You hope you aren't being too obvious.
With the way your eyes would linger on him, casting side glances and hoping he would greet you to strike up a conversation, the way most allogenes do. You didn't want to abruptly disturb his work, nor do you want seem desperate, so you waited for his initiative.
Yet, Diluc lingers just a little outside your group's circle. Your food and drinks were refilled by Charles, you've talked with nearly everyone but the person you want to talk to.
"It's getting pretty late, we should head home for the night." Someone suggests.
What?
No!
"Hm? Do you still have something in mind?" Kaeya asks. You realized you said it out loud, catching the attention of nearby patrons.
With a frantic glance around the tavern, your eyes make contact with Diluc's. He pauses as well, wondering what caused your little outburst.
You are definitely not leaving, not when you don't know when you could catch Diluc in his free time again! You'd be leaving for Liyue by then!
Hands slamming the table to stand up and with a small burst of courage, you approach the bartender who turns away from Charles. He raises an eyebrow at your approach. It's odd the way you feel flustered and nervous, finally facing him.
Pausing just in front of him, he looks on curiously.
"Would you like a refill?" He asks.
"A-ah no, I mean, yes but that's not why I'm here. I. . ." You stutter, stumbling over your words as you try not to behave awkwardly. Should you start with a casual topic?
"You seem to be quite busy." You say.
Diluc blinks. He isn't sure what you're implying. Neither is Kaeya or Jean, who stopped to look at the exchange of words.
"I suppose. . . but as a winery, we do thrive in impromptu festivities." He replies curtly before realizing, was it rude that he never visited the Creator?
"Ah, is it my lack of visit? I apologize, I would have visited but it seems that you were quite satisfied with your favorites and-"
"No, no, no," You wave your hand, cutting him off, "I understand you're busy. You don't have to visit at all! How could I take your time— wait," You pause, recalling his words.
"Favorites?" You tilt your head, "What do you mean I seemed satisfied with my favorites? What do you mean by favorites?"
"Your favorites... allogenes who received your favor. Those you have granted gifts."
Your jaw laxes. Favorites? They decided you play favorites based on how much you've built them?
"You think. . ." You say carefully, not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, "That I offer gifts to my favorites?"
Diluc nods slowly, unsure of your questioning.
Although it would be a lie to say you didn't have your personal favorites, it would still be inaccurate that it's based on gifts. After all, you built everyone who came home by chance. As an avid player, you did your best to farm and push everyone to their full potential.
Diluc, however, never came home no matter how much you wanted him to. It can't be possible that he doesn't know how much he is loved, right?
"Then what about you?" You blurt out, "How do you think I view you?"
He stares at you oddly. At this point, many around you had stopped to tune in. Everyone knew Master Diluc never received your favor, so why are you conversing with him?
Meanwhile, Diluc wonders if you want him to admit it. Must he say it in front of everyone how he never received gifts?
"I suppose. . . I'm not one of them. It's quite understandable. I don't intend to question your judgement—"
"What?" You exclaim, a look of shock crosses your face, "You think I don't like you?" Voice raised in disbelief, you feel the eyes of many turning to watch the scene.
Diluc mirrors your confusion.
"I can't believe you would– no, that isn't it at all!" You stutter over your words, a frantic need to prove him wrong goes through you, "You— you of all people!"
"Me?" He repeats.
"I've always wanted you!"
A silence settles over the tavern. Did you have to put it so bluntly? You freeze in shock at your own words. Diluc's expression of disbelief turns flustered, face turning as red as his hair.
Explain yourself.
"I- I mean, I've always wanted you to come home. Ever since the start, really! It's just that you never did-"
"Hmm... so it implies that it's out of your control, correct?" Kaeya piqued, looking on curiously. He's been listening in the entire time. You nod your head.
"Yes! It's a game of chance for me as well. It's not to say that favor is an accident, I truly wanted everyone to come home! It's just that—" You turn to Diluc, "You never did, no matter how much I wanted you to. How was I supposed to give you your gifts?"
Diluc snaps out of his shock, blinking at you, "Gifts?"
"Yes, gifts! I've been saving them up for you, ever since the start." You pause, shyly looking away, "When I said I wanted you since the beginning I meant it. I came here for you, after all."
He looks at you in disbelief, and probably half the tavern as well. You can't help the small chuckle from your lips. With an outstretched hand, something materializes between you. It glows a blinding golden light, before settling to reveal–
"Wolf's Gravestone. It's a weapon for you."
You didn't have to say it— anyone with eyes could see how it was practically made for Diluc. With large handles and a color scheme that matches his own, Wolf's gravestone doesn't look as divine or ethereal as the other weapons you've gifted, but it looked just as powerful, if not menacing.
With a gesture, Diluc grips the handle.
"Fits like a glove." Kaeya whistles, impressed. As does the rest of the tavern who stopped to stare.
Suddenly, flames burst forth from the weapon. It sears and glows red. Unlike the common claymore that can't handle the the prowess of Diluc's flames, Wolf's Gravestone embraces it. Like an extension of his own hand.
He breaks his gaze away from the weapon to look at you.
"Thank you. . ." He mutters softly, but it's genuine. You smile.
"That's not the last of it, you know."
"What?"
With another flick of your hand, artifacts and talent books materialize. They flow around him like a dance as more and more begin to appear, lighting up the tavern like the night sky.
"I told you I brought gifts!"
All the days spent farming for him and other pyro characters finally paid off. The glimmering artifacts reflected in his own red eyes as he stares, entranced.
Favor did not come to him in meteor showers like it did to the other allogenes; rather, it came to him in your form. Proof of him being loved. The spectacle continued— after the artifacts and talent levels were the constellation (the crowd ooh'ed and aah'ed at the sight), then came the five star apparel (a nostalgic sight to him, and it changed his flames to a darker red), and the ascension materials you passed off as trinkets.
By the end of it, he had a hand over his lower face, his red bangs hid just the ends of his eyes. "I just thought I wasn't that favorable. . ." He muttered and you leaned in to peek at his covered face, wondering why he was shying away.
But it was evident to the tavern— the pink dusted ears, the flushed cheeks, and the overwhelming emotion in his eyes. Diluc Ragnvindr was flustered, and it's a sight enough to make even the drunks place down their beers for a closer look.
You bit your lip, trying to prevent the widest of smiles, "Do you believe yourself loved now?" You ask and he gives the faintest of nods.
"Thank you," He says, "For favoring me."

It’s not hard to be nice to you.
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Hello! I would like to request smth if your taking requests :)
That one thing you did, ‘A safe space’ or smth with the Diluc and Kaeya? Could you do smth similar except Reader is more… emtionally abused?
thanks :)
have a nice day :DDD
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Characters: Child Diluc and Kaeya, Crepus
Genre: Hurt comfort, gender neutral child reader, not canon compliant.
TW: Child abuse, emotional abuse, breaking glass, food shaming (just learned that’s a phrase)
A/n: I finally filled my first request! (I actually copy pasted the request here to save it. I heard of stuff disappearing, and I wanted to make sure I had it.) And yes, requests are open and details are in my bio. I’m sorry for how long it took, my organizational system sucks. Tws are pretty specific, but I think they’re common triggers? Idk. Mildly concerned that my most popular fic is about abuse. I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves.
1.5k words
You, Diluc and Kaeya were perched on the bridge to Mondstadt proper, throwing bread to the birds. They crowded around under the bridge, swimming around to catch the food. The wind was cooling as the sun set. It would be time to go home soon.
"I need to go back." You sighed. “You know how they get.”
"Your guardian isn't very nice to you." Kaeya said abruptly.
You froze. "It's not a big deal."
"It is." Kaeya insisted.
"They're just tired." You tried to explain.
“So are you, and you’re not like that.” Kaeya pointed out.
"We could have a sleepover! Then you don't have to be with them and they get a break." Diluc suggested.
"It's too much trouble. I don't want to bother you." You sighed.
"You won't. Our father is very nice." Diluc said.
"He is." Kaeya agreed, nodding.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!" Diluc said.
You brightened. "OK! I'll ask my guardian." You discussed the details quickly before running back home. It was getting dark and you didn't want to get in trouble.
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
Your guardian's vice-like grip crushed your shoulder. It was possessive and made your skin crawl. They spoke in that fake-friendly voice they used in public. "Are you sure you want to deal with them?"
"It's no issue. From what I've seen they are a wonderful kid." Crepus said, a friendly smile on his face. "They're only staying the night, and the staff is used to kids."
"Not my kid. Can't do anything without messing up." They laughed.
You felt your face flush. Not in front of him!, you wanted to scream. Mr. Ragnvindr was cool, you wanted to be like him when you grew up. You didn't want him to think you were useless. You kept your mouth shut though, even as tears stung your eyes.
Mr. Ragnvindr noticed your discomfort. "My own sons can be a handful too sometimes. They're still learning."
"Alright, but if they burn the house down don't say I didn't warn you." They laughed again, a cruelness undercutting it. It was harsh on your ears and it took everything to not flinch.
“We have a pyro vision in the house. It wouldn’t be the first time something caught fire.” He joked and he looked at you as he said it, trying to reassure you.
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
"Dinner’s spaghetti!" Diluc eagerly pulled you into the house. "The cooks make the best tomato sauce!"
The delicious smell greeted you as you walked in the door. Your mouth watered just thinking about how good it must taste.
Kaeya had sat already, waving excitedly for you to sit next to him.
Crepus appeared holding three wine glasses in one hand and a bottle of grape juice in the other. "Welcome! Take a seat." He gestured to the seat next to Kaeya.
You did and Diluc sat on your other side.
“Can I pour the juice?” He asked.
“Of course.” Crepus handed him the bottle.
You watched as Diluc uncorked it and poured it carefully into each cup, twisting the bottle after each pour. His brows furrowed in concentration as he did it. As soon as he finished he set down the bottle and looked for his father’s assessment.
“That’s my boy!” He smiled proudly. “You’ve learned so much. You’ll be a bartender in no time.”
You should be happy, but jealousy tugged at your heart. Why wasn’t your guardian like that?”
“Let’s eat!”
You dug in. The food was so warm and the pasta had the perfect bite to it. “Al dente’ or whatever Diluc had called it. You didn’t know how to describe food the way he did, but it was delicious. You scarfed down the whole plate in seconds. You froze, fork in hand. He was going to yell at you. You had eaten too fast, too greedily, and he was going to yell at you. Pig.
But he didn’t. All he did was ask if you wanted seconds.
“Am I… allowed to?” You asked nervously, waiting for the rant about how greedy you were.
“Of course. Eat as much as you want. You need to eat so your body can grow. The boys eat enough for five men, it’s incredible.” He laughed.
Adeline brought another bowl and whisked the empty one away.
You ate slower this time and your eyes kept darting up to monitor Crepus’s face. He caught you once and just looked back sadly.
“Are you enjoying your meal?” Diluc asked, a serious expression on his face. He was practicing his host etiquette.
You panicked slightly, your mouth was too full to talk. You swallowed quickly and nodded. “It’s really good.”
“Tell Adeline, it makes her really happy when Diluc and I like her food.” Kaeya added.
You nodded again. “I will.”
Dinner ended soon after. You made sure to thank Adeline when she came by again.
“It’s no problem. I’m glad you enjoyed your dinner.” She smiled sweetly. “Diluc, Kaeya, please collect the plates.”
“Can I help too?”
“Of course. Just stack the cups and put them at the head of the table.”
“Ok!” You did as you were told and collected all the cups. As you walked to the head of the table to put them down, you tripped. You caught yourself but the cups fell out of your hands and shattered on the wood floor. It was silent. Not for long, you thought, readying yourself. You fell to your knees and reached to pick up the shards of glass, trying to reduce the punishment.
“Y/n, stop!” Crepus’s loud voice broke the silence.
You did, fear freezing the blood in your veins. Tears pooled in your eyes and then slipped down your cheek. Apologies spilled from your lips. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I promise I didn’t mean too, please don’t be angry, I won’t do it again.” Your words were interrupted by your own sobs and sorries.
Crepus carefully walked up to you and crouched at your level. “I’m not angry. I don’t want you to touch the glass because you’ll cut yourself.” “It was an accident, I swear, I’ll pay you back-”
“I know it is. You don’t have to pay anything.”
Kaeya’s cold hand rested on your shoulder and Diluc stood a little to the side.
“You know what, I’ll show you how little of a problem this is. We’ll clean it up together. Kaeya, Diluc, get the broom and dustpan from the pantry.”
“I can-”
“You don’t know where it is.” Diluc pointed out.
“My sons can handle this task, no need to worry. I’m just glad you caught yourself.”
You stared at him blankly, confused.
“It would have been worse if you got hurt instead of the glasses.”
“It… would?”
A pained expression crossed his face. “Of course.”
“I’m sorry I made you sad.”
“I’m an adult, it’s not your job to worry about me.” He rested his hand on your head and started petting your hair when you didn’t flinch.
“We’re back!” Diluc held a broom in his hand while Kaeya held the dust pan.
“Thank you.” Crepus turned his attention back to you. “I’ll hold the dustpan and you’ll sweep the glass into it, ok?”
You nodded and Diluc passed you the broom. Your hands shook as you swept but you finished up quickly. “That’s all?”
“Yes, see? It’s not a big deal. Now who wants ice cream?”
Both boys raised their hands.
“And you?”
“Aren’t I being punished?”
“Of course not. What flavor do you want?”
“Cho-chocolate?”
“You got it!” Adeline appeared out of seemingly nowhere and took everyone’s orders.
Three little bowls of ice cream came out, each with beautiful little spoons. Chocolate, raspberry, strawberry. You ate yours, still sniffling from your tears earlier.
“Do you want to taste some of mine?” Kaeya lifted a spoon of raspberry.
“If it’s alright…”
He plopped a spoonful into your bowl.
“Mine’s a little soupy, but you can still try.” Diluc poured a little of his ice cream soup next to Kaeya’s raspberry. His pyro had melted it.
You sniffed and rubbed at your eyes.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you sad.” Diluc panicked. “Is it because the ice creams mixed?”
“You’re so nice.” You sobbed.
Crepus put a hand on your shoulder. “It’s not hard to be nice to you, and even if it was, it would be worth it.”

"Hey! How'd your mission go? I heard you had to do it with Diluc" Kaeya said while putting an arm around your shoulder " Yes.. he was a bit rude. Maybe he just doesn't like me, I've heard he wasn't fond of new people.. but we've known eachother even as children." You say with a chuckle trying not to sound offensive towards Kaeya.
"Huh, Rude you say? I mean he's occasionally harsh here and there but rude? Care to give an example?" He said removing his arm around your neck while tilting his head and crossing his arms "Well, for starters.. he started saying quite rude things to me earlier such as; You're gross, You're insufferable or even swearing at me sometimes. I feel like I already have small to no chances of even being friends with him ever again, he's changed ever since I came back from Liyue. "
Kaeya let out a chuckle "Oh, Diluc. He just isn't good with these things but... Trust me he still likes you." He continued as he pats your shoulder then walks away "I'm pretty sure the last time he talked about you was him saying he wanted to be with you everyday, I don't think he hates you one bit .. you're both so dense." He whispered— barely audible, you couldn't hear him properly yet you managed to make out the words " hates and dense "
"You're so bad at making a move aren't you, Diluc." Kaeya asks with a sarcastic tone, Diluc turns his head towards his brother "...What do you mean?" He asks with a confused face even though he seems to know what Kaeya meant "Hm really? Your 'insufferable' knight? No?"
His face flushes, almost as if his face replicated his hair but his eyes were also filled with panic " Ah.. so what— They ARE insufferable—! I mean they almost got hurt and they still went for the kill how stupid! I.." he didn't finish his sentence and sighed heavily
"Already having fights? I thought we agreed in 'no fighting' when you became a knight." Crepus' voice scared the two boys who quickly faced their father. "Oh if it was a fight then I would've told you father—" Diluc starts " —But he's inlove" Kaeya cuts Diluc off with an energetic tone
With a quite shocked face, Crepus chuckles to himself "..Then you really shouldn't be saying those things if you're inlove with them. You might push them away Diluc." He sighs " No— I don't like them! Father..." Diluc retorts with his face heating up ever more slightly
"Young master Diluc? Your friend is here! They're looking for you. It seems quite important." Adelinde interrupts their conversation while Diluc nodded and excused himself
"Ah.." if it wasn't the person he was all flustered over, the person who he sees in the midst of the crowd— despite the commotion; your voice is the only thing he hears. " I brought you some of my cooking, I wanted to apologize for troubling you earlier in our mission. I know it was a foolish move, thank you for saving me, Diluc." You say with a gentle smile which he seemed to despise— but in his eyes you were more than beautiful, his brows furrowed even more trying to conceal his redness and embarrassment.
"..is something wrong? If you don't want it maybe Kaeya and Master Crepus would enjoy it? Apologies I wasn't really sure if this is still your favorite food, I remember you saying it was your favorite food a long time ago—" he takes the meal from your hands and opens his mouth to talk but no words escaped his mouth, he could barely utter a word Infront of you when your eyes shone perfectly with the sunset. With no further warning he nodded slightly and shut the door in your face.
He leaned on the door, the food against his chest with his face redder than his hair and his heart beating out of his chest. Adelinde was about to tell him how rude it was to shut the door in your face but Crepus and Kaeya stopped her, the three watched the redhead unable to muster up a word enough to thank you for your gift but he also felt bad for making you feel as if you were a burden and that an apology was in order, he opens the door quickly again only to see that you've wandered off.
A week passed and Diluc never really approached you, he avoided all contact with you. Sometimes you'd get a good look at him and feel like he doesn't really hate you, that he somehow has at the very least affection or liking for you, but that was nothing but delusion in your eyes, he avoided every single interaction. He acted as if he hated you, your guts, you as a person and no matter how much Kaeya reassures you that you're liked by Diluc in some way, he still makes you feel as if he's disgusted by the thought of you.
Your last mission with him came, Kaeya and Diluc became your partner for your mission. It was clearing out a camp of abyss mages. They've gathered up in one place and it has become a very huge inconvenience to people. You came to the scene and with ease, they were dealt with. Or was it? There was barely anything audible to you, you felt as if the man you have always adored saw you as a disgusting person— hell, he probably sees you as those type of people who throw themselves at him for his money and fame.
Going back to the headquarters, Kaeya had a lot to say, he tried to make you two talk. He tried to make Diluc muster up any bit of compliment just to keep your eyes bright like before. In truth, he wasn't the only one that noticed your eyes had gone dark. Everyone did, especially Diluc, he thought you hated being with him after how he's treated you these past few weeks. It was a never ending cycle, he makes a mistake, you try to make up for it, he doesn't tell you how he feels, you get distant, he wins you over and you go back to being yourself once more and then it repeats.
A day has passed since your mission, your things were packed, you visited the winery to bid goodbye to the man who treated you as his own child and the man who supported you with every small dumb decision you have ever made— and the most important man you have ever met, the man that changed your life, your view of love and affection.
Unfortunately, Diluc stood quiet during your goodbyes, he was behind Crepus and Kaeya who gave you a hug and bid Goodbye. He stood in the shadows unsure of what to do next, he stood unknowingly shedding a tear.
"Diluc, can we talk? Just us." You say as he nods and steps out of the winery with you, he stares at you with his ever so dead eyes.
"I have longed to tell you how I felt, how I always felt the need to impress you and how I—.. I want to tell you that you are the only reason I came back to Mondstat, the only reason I became a knight. Diluc I adore you, If I may—; love, even. Diluc I love you, I have for a very long time. All I ever wanted was to tell you yet you manage to somehow make me aware of your dislike of affection. I understand, I really do. It won't stop me from how I feel for you, but Diluc Ragvindr.. there is no point of me being here if it wasn't with you, if It wasn't by your side making you feel happy— if it wasn't with you, there is nothing in this world- in the whole of Teyvat that matters. So in other words, this is goodbye. Diluc, I hope you live a happy life and love someone you truly think is worthy and may they treat you how you deserve to be treated and may they love you as much as I do."
You waited for a brief moment for a response, you hoped.. atleast a bit, atleast a little bit that he would say he felt the same way yet he stood quiet. You chuckled to yourself as you felt your eyes welling up. "Goodbye, Diluc." You walk away with your things and your tears running down your face while Diluc stood in regret, his mouth could not conjure up anything, his body was frozen, his tongue was tied. His words were trapped in his throat and there was no way to get them out. He watched you walk away— you were too far, too far away from his reach. He felt his eyes water, and soon his tears were unstoppable, they felt like fire in his eyes. He wanted to chase after you, he wanted to move his body yet he was frozen in place, he was gone— you, were gone. And it was solely because of him, him not being able to express his love, his emotions.
To this day, he wishes that you would walk into his tavern, that you would come back and say you missed him. That you still loved him, but who was he to ask for that when he had long received your wedding invitation. Who was he to long for the love of someone he hurt and who was he to wish for you to ruin your perfect life with your partner now. He can only wish for you to live a happy life, much like what you wished for him though he knows deep down that no one could ever compare to you.

— Diluc Ragnvindr (ft. Kaeya and Jean)
"... We made our peace with weariness so let it be" — The moon will sing for me, The Crane Wives
It was known to many that the three children of two of the powerful clans of Mondstadt were close and basically inseparable, even in the younger years as knights they basically did almost everything together. So it was an absolute surprise to many that when one seemingly left their group, the friendship crumbled to the ground as if it was nothing but a brittle and delicate petal.
Many said that ever since Diluc disappeared after his father died, Jean and Kaeya seemed to grow more distant, and from friends they became nothing else but co-workers.
It was somehow Diluc's fault.
Everything was Diluc's fault, even the attacks of the abyss seemed to still be Diluc's fault even if he had been gone for years.
The three musketeers that used to be so inseparable due to some invisible glue of destiny finally broke the strong glue that bonded them together, the glue that Diluc seemed to manage to break no matter how larger and stronger destiny was compared to him.
Everything was a gloom to him until you came.
The light at the end of the tunnel, You.
All the dim and gloomy corners of his life seemed to have grown color ever since you came to his life and introduced him to the art of starting over.
That is the case with the rest of his life but the parts where he had different views as you, that's where it all went south when you found out about his other persona— the dark night hero.
During a mission with your fellow knight, Kaeya, you seemed to have been caught in a fiery trap when an abyss mage led you to their hideout.
Once you were about to be attacked by an abyss mage, a looming figure immediately caught the abyss mage by its mane before slamming the abyssal creature onto the ground. You were about to thank the person and tell them off on how dangerous this place is when they turned around and there you met the familiar red eyes of no other than the man you knew well— Diluc Ragnvindr.
"D-Diluc?" You were in shock to see him here.
Then, the ground began to shake as it fell one by one until you and Kaeya stood in different sections of the floor that still hadn't fallen into the fiery pit that awaited them at the bottom as you three heard the abyss mage laugh at all of you to have fallen for their trap.
This caused Diluc to get pissed— no, to get mad.
There you saw how Diluc, with no mercy, beheaded the abyss mage.
In your line of work, there was no impossibility that you had to resort to killing but you knew that it wasn't the last resort.
"A-Are you alright?" Diluc was shaken, both from the fact that you recognized him beneath this mask and that you were one wrong step away from death.
It seemed that destiny wanted to use this event to its fullest when out of nowhere, from the very entrance of the room emerged no other than the acting grand master and long time friend of both Kaeya and Diluc.
"Jean, stay back!" Kaeya warned as he kept his balance on the thinning platform he was standing on.
Two of the most important things in Diluc's life were being forced to stand on a thin thread by life as if it was making him choose between saving you or his brother, it was a decision he never thought he'd ever make.
"Hang on... hang on, I'll get you out of this" He assured you as you almost fell into the fit of lava beneath you and Kaeya.
"Kaeya... Y/N, we'll get you out of this safe just stay still!" Jean commanded.
"No!" Diluc shouted back as he began to slowly make his way at the edge of the floor at the other side of the room where he stood, reaching his hand out for Sophia take.
"D-Diluc?" The two knights said in unison, now realized who this mysterious dark night hero was.
The platforms began to shake as you and Kaeya tried to hold on for dear life, you looked towards Diluc and had no other thought other than to jump to him or else you'll fall to your death.
Jean saw how you were getting ready to jump which she immediately took into account and yelled back at you as the other knights tried to make a way for Kaeya to safely get off of the brittle platform, "Y/N, do not jump!"
It was too late as you gained momentum and jumped towards Diluc, and just like that, the platform fell and succumbed into the lava while Kaeya did the same and jumped towards his fellow knights ready to catch him but your jump was more dangerous with only Diluc catching you.
Diluc's heart almost dropped to the ground as he held onto your arm, keeping you from falling into the lava. Once he had finally carried you in his arms, he looked over you for any sort of injury and completely forgot the eyes of the others in the room with them.
That event clearly left a dent as you were now leaving the domain, the two brothers with such a heavy aura between them that was released when you all were in a safe clearing.
"This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't taken up being the hero..." Diluc spat out.
"Oh? None of this would have happened if you hadn't betrayed us all and killed dad!" Kaeya answered back with the same venom.
You then approached Diluc and tried to calm him down, his red eyes softened for a split second until Kaeya decided to add more fuel to the fire.
"Father would be disappointed in you"
That's where Diluc broke, his fist immediately flew towards Kaeya no matter how hard you tried to calm him down as he finally landed a harsh punch onto his brother's face.
"Diluc!" Jean cried out as she went to pull Kaeya back while you held Diluc back from further hurting the blue haired man.
"You aren't even his real son... you're not even a real Ragnvindr" Diluc sneered, emphasizing his every word.
The two were completely different for sure but no matter how different they were, Diluc and Kaeya were still brothers.
"Diluc, you're going too far!" Jean intervened.
"You don't know an ounce of the hardships Kaeya went through... he faced his faults— that's a true Ragnvindr" She further sliced the wound in his heart.
That was the very first time his usual daunting and scowling face dropped to one of nothing and a blank expression, it was the most confusing expression that he's ever worn.
You watched everything unfold; the three believers were dimmed down to fools, to hopeless and desperate beings.
"So please for the love of Barbatos... say sorry!" Jean cried.
You thought this was the end, the end of the never ending feud of the two Ragvindrs but the three of you watched as Diluc walked away.
It was Diluc's fault again.
You watched the many nights where Diluc was very keen on fixing things with his brother, you didn't even know what was holding him back from saying a simple apology when he could apologize to you multiple times.
"There's no use..." Kaeya laughed as he gently felt the bruise that Diluc's punch left, despite all that his brother has done to him he still looked awful as he watched Diluc leave.
"Diluc's always so stubborn" You assured, that the two agreed with.
"But he'll turn around... siblings always make up no matter what, I'll promise to talk to him" You added which left Kaeya letting out a weak and dreaded laugh.
"Don't bother yourself, Y/N... Diluc and I made peace with the weariness that comes with being two heirs to the Ragnvindr house..."
Both you and Jean had a confused expression on your faces as you looked at each other before your eyes landed back on Kaeya, begging him to clarify his cryptic message to which he gladly said:
"He and I are no longer brothers..."
Tumblr media
A/N: I know this is rushed and probably so far from canon but I just needed to satisfy that itch of a Ragbro angst, I do want them to reconcile but this was just an idea that popped in my small brain.
