Re-Animator Fandom Canon Opinion Poll!

Since Beyond Re-Animator is controversial amongst most Re-Animator fans - one of the biggest critiques being Dan's exclusion and/or him testifying against Herbert - I'm curious to see what would be the most popular rewrite to the canon. Regardless of your thoughts on Beyond Re-Animator, as a movie/story as a whole, I'm just interested in your preferred outcome/status of Herbert and Dan post Bride of Re-Animator. i.e. what do you think is the most likely, in-character/appropriate outcome/consequences after the events of Bride? I mainly approached asking this question with a focus on the opinion of Herbert and Dan's relationship to each other and how the judicial system views them.

**Wracked with guilt, Dan is on the outside actively trying to rectify his actions by attempting to overturn Herbert's conviction, lessen his sentence, etc. Whether Herbert is made aware of this effort and Dan's specific method to free him is up to you.

a rant/series of ideas

So I've posted these on SB before but to put it simply, the phandom is stagnant. The same ideas are repeated over and over again mixed up but too similar to tell apart. Over on ao3s dp crossover section I've noticed a ton of these stories are created after the author reads a prompt here so I figured I'd gather the posts I've made on SB and post them here in hopes those authors can see them. I'm just copy/pasting these so they will look weird as they were originally posted on SB and I can't be bothered to edit them.

So yall know how d.c. crossovers are really common. Well I just had a small idea to add to the list of why heroes don't usually kill, batman especially. Obsessions can help make ghosts and few people are more obsessed than villains, the heroes know this and don't want to risk powering up their rogue gallery more, especially since hell is real and as we saw with deathstroke/slade it's easy to make deals and return. Just another angle to add for those crossovers. Last thing anyone wants is a ghost/demon empowered joker running around.

We have tons of danny phantom dc crossovers but not a single one has Cujo join the super pets for adventures. This is a crime that should be rectified immediately. Best pup should be allowed to play with Ace and Krypto and fight animal crimes.

What aren't there any stories where danny is in the marvels zombies storyline, or dceased, or blackest night, or even the new dc vs vampires storyline.

Why are almost all horror stories about him being tortured when there are perfectly good zombie apocalypses he can fight in. I'd love to see danny wield a black lantern ring and be in total control because he's already dead and as such doesn't need to eat hearts to gain power.

I'd love to see danny get bite by a vampire only for them to taste what's basically deadmans blood. We need less secret sibling, torture filled, betrayal fics and more danny pulling a doomslayer and fighting trigons armies when he invades.

Pariah Dark pulling amity into the gz would have gotten international attention just like cannon. Something that's brought up but never really explored are meta humans rights clashing with the anti ecto laws, I'd love to see the various magic users testifying in congress, debunking the fentons beliefs that ghosts aren't people and as such deserve the same rights as everyone else.

Also I'd love to see walker put in control of arkham, blackgate, or Belle reve. He'd have those places on lockdown, and the thought of the joker trying to escape only for walker to toss him back in his cell is hilarious to me.

All these DC crossovers but not one shows an alternate danny in the justice lords, injustice, or crime syndicate version of the league.

I'm tired of rereading the same stuff, let me read about an evil crime boss danny or one who rules over the GZ like how the justice lords rule earth, or one that sides with superman after metropolis gets nuked. So many alternate worlds, timelines, and dimensions to choose from and they always pick the same ones.

Forget JLU, YJ, or TT let me see danny in the justice league dark apocalypse war movie as a trigon possed Dan Phantom and have him fight Darksied

The infinite realms is so underutilized in the dc crossovers, and just the phandom in general.

You have an entire dimension that can take you any when and anywhere you want/don't want and you don't use it to let superman meet his parents before krypton blows up, or any other orphan superhero for that matter.

Hell you don't have to save his family, you can set up a stable time loop where this meeting is what convinced them to send him to earth rather then any of kryptons dying colonies.

Have Pandora meet wonder women, I don't think I've seen anything more then a passing reference about her in any dc stories to date. The 4 armed ghost of a Greek Goddess would absolutely be something the Amazon's would want to meet.

I'd love to see more stories exploring the factions in the gz like make up a rivalry between the far frozen and Atlantis before the yetis died out and less stories about Lazarus pits being ectoplasm, and Danny bring the lover/secret brother to the entire bat clan.

Give me poison ivy possed by Undergrowth or the joker being terrorized by the box ghost because joker gas doesn't work on the dead. Hell weather wizard/ any other weather villain teaming up with vortex would be fun. Or have technus hijack brainiac/amazo, now that be a good threat.

Let's see Danny put on the helmet of fate and fight klarion because he's not at the same level as the cosmic forces of order and chaos rather then the gz being some super dimension that John "I sold my soul to 30 devils, 10 gods, an angel and a fae" Constantine is too scared to touch. Pariah was powerful, but he ain't Darkseid, Trigon, Child, or Nekron powerful.

Let's see more, superheroes deal with ghostly shit rather then Danny runs away/moves to Gotham for the 30th time. Like lets say the flash has to deal with Kitty and Johnny joy riding in Central city but he can't touch them or freakshow stops in Gotham and kidnaps Jason since the phandom is obsessed with making him a halfa or halfa adjacent. So much potential and none of it explored!

So, yall know how the phandom likes to make ectoplasm an emotional conduit. Where ghosts either can feel / feed on emotions and ectoplasm can have emitions without being a ghost, usually when talking about the pit rage Jason has in the DC stories. Well, let's roll with that and add the Emotional Entities that the lantern corps use.

If ghosts feed on emotions then the lanterns are basically walking snacks, if they sense emotions then the lanterns are walking flash bangs, and if ectoplasm can have emotions then let's have some ghosts get lantern rings simply because they are emotions given physical forms.

Also, yall know how the Danny defeats pariah and becomes king stories are a whole thing, why doesn't that apply to Dan?

Rant/prompt ideas done for now but I have so many more. Let's bring some life back to this half dead phandom.

BYD 12;

Testify(BYD),4/10,speed 5/10 tech 3/10 flow 4/10 execution 2/10

*the* finale for arcaea main story 1,marking a significant point of the game where the story comes to an end with the climax of the two’s conflict. So is it good? No. The general flow of the chart feels forced—the 6k parts have questionable flow and it really just feels notes are jumbled up for the difficulty sake. The pattern placement,especially triangle stream are god awful to aim on,and the ending 6k forces your finger position in a very awkward method where it only feels like the player is dragged into a regular high difficulty finale that is hard for the sake of being hard,abandoning any kind of flow. It also also doesn’t help with how the chart is structured in the way the breaks are very very jarring to do,the arcs being incredibly easy to miss on easily when you aren’t microprecise in the hitbox, the post-beginning section is very weird to execute,the 6k is incredibly janky to execute and the ending being just one of the most insane endkill doesn’t help it either. That being said,the chart heavily awards who puts time in learning and trying to execute the said chart,and that its the first attempt on the said way difficulty is planned out, it is given a 4/10 for its performances.

Pragmatism ~resurrection~ (pragmatism BYD),8/10, speed 5/10 tech 9/10 flow 9/10 execution 7/10

The first ever beyond chain final song recorded until now(second one coming at 25th),with it being the remastered version of the first ever higher difficulty song,it also remasters the initial gimmick of the chart. So how does it go? It is actually very good! The chart has a very great flow (excluding abrupt cut to the system reboot: but it does wonder in this chart,in a way the cut is a special way to introduce the special gimmick of the middle drop.),the chart is structured that each gimmick is a reference to the original in a way it heavily tests how player’s positioning,and how they can read the chart. The patterns in this chart is a chef’s kiss for how it generates satisfaction when a player hits them right. The gimmicks in this chart are mostly a direct reference to the original chart/song,the final slowdown>speedramp,the beginning-middrop slow,they are crafted by care. The only issue i find with this chart that drags it down is by that despite the chart heavily awards learning,it is incredibly shitmissy in the process and can easily result in frustration while attempting so. While yes,learning a chart can be very frustrating,its normal,but pragres is beyond frustrating in terms of learning a chart,and if a chart manages to make general people suffocate on shitmiss more than learn ,i wont give it higher than 9,hence a 8/10.

Before i continue,let me rectify on whats the four mark. Speed is just how much reliant a chart’s difficulty is on the speed,and so on for tech. Flow is based on how a player feels on playing the chart,whether if they enjoy flowing with the chart or finds it jarring and abrupt,and execution is literal. Now that i explained the four marking scheme,tempest beyond is a chart that throws all of them away except for speed,because dear love of god the chart is an actual bad one,and i barely gives out “bad” chart rating to any chart in this game. This chart,with the most batshit unfair endkill and the general pacing is beyond horrible,the chart is just a scream of “unga bunga speed stream go brrr” without any other consideration of any aspect to make a chart fun,the flow is absolutely tarnished,the player won’t find it fun; they will only find it as a hand-wrecking nonstop nightmare because theres absolutely no break in the said chart. The slow section is extremely abrupt and it just feels like the song just made it that way so the chart can be designed that way,the pattern padding is not only shitmissy but ridiculous to execute,the ending in particular is the perfect example.(cont)

STORY NUMBER ONE

Many years ago, Al Capone virtually owned Chicago . Capone wasn't famous for anything heroic. He was notorious for enmeshing the windy city in everything from bootlegged booze and prostitution to murder.

Capone had a lawyer nicknamed "Easy Eddie." He was Capone's lawyer for a good reason. Eddie was very good! In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.

To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. Not only was the money big, but Eddie got special dividends, as well. For instance, he and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion with live-in help and all of the conveniences of the day. The estate was so large that it filled an entire Chicago City block.

Eddie lived the high life of the Chicago mob and gave little consideration to the atrocity that went on around him.

Eddie did have one soft spot, however. He had a son that he loved dearly.

Eddie saw to it that his young son had clothes, cars, and a good education.

Nothing was withheld. Price was no object.

And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie even tried to teach him right from wrong. Eddie wanted his son to be a better man than he was.

Yet, with all his wealth and influence, there were two things he couldn't give his son; he couldn't pass on a good name or a good example.

One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision. Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done.

He decided he would go to the authorities and tell the truth about Al "Scarface" Capone, clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some semblance of integrity. To do this, he would have to testify against The Mob, and he knew that the cost would be great. So, he testified.

Within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gunfire on a lonely Chicago Street . But in his eyes, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer, at the greatest price he could ever pay. Police removed from his pockets a rosary, a crucifix, a religious medallion, and a poem clipped from a magazine.

The poem reads:

"The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own.. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still."

World War II produced many heroes. One such man was Lieutenant Commander Butch O'Hare.

He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.

One day his entire squadron was sent on a mission. After he was airborne, he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his fuel tank.

He would not have enough fuel to complete his mission and get back to his ship.

His flight leader told him to return to the carrier. Reluctantly, he dropped out of formation and headed back to the fleet.

As he was returning to the mother ship, he saw something that turned his blood cold; a squadron of Japanese aircraft was speeding its way toward the American fleet.

The American fighters were gone on a sortie, and the fleet was all but defenseless. He couldn't reach his squadron and bring them back in time to save the fleet. Nor could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger.

There was only one thing to do. He must somehow divert them from the fleet.

Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes. Wing-mounted 50 caliber's blazed as he charged in, attacking one surprised enemy plane and then another. Butch wove in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until

all his ammunition was finally spent.

Undaunted, he continued the assault. He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible, rendering them unfit to fly.

Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron took off in another direction.

Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.

Upon arrival, he reported in and related the event surrounding his return.

The film from the gun-camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft

This took place on February 20, 1942 , and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of W.W.II, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Medal of Honor.

A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29. His home town would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O'Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.

The United State Supreme Court adopted its first formal code of ethics on Monday, in response to the months of criticism over the undisclosed gifts and lavish trips received by some of the Justices. This latest release comes after Congressional Democrats threatened to pass legislation that would mandate ethics reform, as members of the Senate Judiciary Committee had planned to hold a vote to authorize subpoenas for two major conservative players with close ties to Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Congressional pressure has now resulted in a nine-page code, released with five pages of commentary to accompany it, that covers everything from the acceptance of gifts, to recusal standards, to an approach for avoiding improper outside influence on the justices. The document was superseded by the following statement below and was also signed by all the sitting Justices to show an acknowledgment of the new policy:

SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES STATEMENT OF THE COURT REGARDING THE CODE OF CONDUCT

The undersigned Justices are promulgating this Code of Conduct to set out succinctly and gather in one place the ethics rules and principles that guide the conduct of the Members of the Court. For the most part these rules and principles are not new: The Court has long had the equivalent of common law ethics rules, that is, a body of rules derived from a variety of sources, including statutory provisions, the code that applies to other members of the federal judiciary, ethics advisory opinions issued by the Judicial Conference Committee on Codes of Conduct, and historic practice. The absence of a Code, however, has led in recent years to the misunderstanding that the Justices of this Court, unlike all other jurists in this country, regard themselves as unrestricted by any ethics rules. To dispel this misunderstanding, we are issuing this Code, which largely represents a codification of principles that we have long regarded as governing our conduct.

This newly published set of ethical standards does not impose any significant new requirements, and there is no described means for investigating any wrong-doing or any enforcement procedures to correct infractions. The most egregious part of this latest attempt to appear as if Justices are capable of self-regulation, comes from the introduction of the new rules, where the Justices acknowledge public outrage over ethics violations to “dispel” a “misunderstanding” that the Supreme Court is “unrestricted by any ethics rules.”

The condescending prologue continues to explain that these new regulations was issued is basically a codification of the principles that already existed that the members of the Supreme Court have “long regarded as governing our conduct.” It is as if the Chief Justice has said to the American public, “look everyone, you are not smart enough or educated enough to understand this, but we are so superior to any other branch of government that we’ve all been following a ‘scout’s honor’ approach to billionaires throwing large sums of money at us and it has always worked.” But, it clearly isn’t working.

This latest attempt to rectify the public perception of some really bad ethics decisions by sitting Justices fails across the board. It only emphasizes that nothing has really been done to regulate the highest court all along, and that the Justices — who have life-time tenure with no practical way for removal — believe they are completely above any form of ethical rebuke. The fact that Justice Roberts refused to testify before Congress on this very issue only supports this argument.

There is also nothing in this new set of guidelines that explains how some of the recent allegations against Thomas and Alito will be handled, if at all. Under this set of ethics rules, the Justices would have already policed themselves and not engaged in any actions they found to be improper. By not launching any kind of new investigation into the allegations that billionaires have legally benefited from their financial favors, the United States Supreme Court is telling us all that there was no wrong-doing and nothing else will be done to look into the issues.

It is also hard to believe that this new code is something that the Justices have been using as a guideline this whole time, given Justice Elena Kagan’s acknowledgment in September that there were disagreements among the Justices concerning what ethics codes might cover. If this were the case, and there were active disagreements over the unwritten rules, there is no way the Court would have uniformity in their ethics procedures. There would also be no way all of the Justices would be adherening equally to any unspoken guidelines.

“It would help in our own compliance with the rules,” Kagan explained at a Notre Dame speech on the issue of the Court needing a formal ethics mandate. “And it would, I think, go far in persuading other people that we were adhering to the highest standards of conduct.” This last statement represents the crux of the real problem — the Supreme Court is only putting out this appearance of a new set of rules to placate a majority of US citizens that it neither agrees with, nor cares about.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) has been one of the most vocal proponents of ethical reform for the highest court in the land and is still unsatisfied with the latest solution to impose regulations that are just for show. “This is a long-overdue step by the justices, but a code of ethics is not binding unless there is a mechanism to investigate possible violations and enforce the rules.”

The honor system has not worked for members of the Roberts Court,” Whitehouse said in a succinct statement about how ineffective these new rules will be. Senator Whitehouse had already proposed implementing a system within the Supreme Court that would allow for investigations into complaints by lower-court judges. The motion had cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee without any support from Republican Members, who maintain that this action by Democrats is merely a response to decisions they didn’t like from the conservative-dominated Court, including overturning the right to abortion.

The ethics bill proposed by Democrats would have required that Justices provide more detail about possible potential conflicts of interest, as well as written explanations about any decisions not to recuse. It would have also sought to illuminate any gifts or favors that were being received by Supreme Court Justices.

Although the Democratic bill had little to no chance of becoming law in the Republican-controlled House, or the Senate where Democrats maintain a very slim majority, the pushback was providing leverage to get the Court to finally do something substantial about ethics reform. Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durban (D-IL) had scheduled a committee vote for Thursday to subpoena billionaire Harlan Crow and conservative activist Leonard Leo about their roles in organizing and paying for justices’ luxury travel.

There is little doubt that quashing the subpoena process was the reason behind this latest public adoption of ethics standards, which should leave us all wondering if the Supreme Court issued these rules to placate the public, or the billionaire benefactors who have seemingly bought a few conservative Court members. The people who face the most immediate risk are not the Justices, but those who would have to testify, under felony penalty of perjury, about their actions and intentions.

This latest acquiescence by the Supreme Court in creating new standards is now the second round of attempting to dispel public outrage over the unethical behavior of Conservative Justices. In April, Chief Justice Roberts refused a request from the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify at a hearing on US Supreme Court ethical standards. Roberts chose to issue a thin statement concerning the ethical obligations of the Court, which was also a massive failure with assuaging public discontent.

Public approval and trust of the United States Supreme Court remains at record lows, according to a Gallup Poll released just before the Court’s new term began on Oct. 2, 2023. Only 41% of adults in the United States currently approve of how the Supreme Court is handling its job. The Court’s approval rating first fell to the record-low 40% in September 2021, after it declined to block a controversial Texas abortion law, which was the precursor to the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. Republicans may actually be right about one thing — the public distrust in the Supreme Court goes beyond deceptive ethics practices, and includes distrust over a ruling that they believe to be inherently partisan and wrong.
