As we begin the month of October and many of the prompt fest such as Inktober, Kinktober, Whumptober, Flufftober, Podfic Fest, and all the others that will bring new content, a friendly hint:
Do. Not. Do. This.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reposting artwork, fic, podfics, whatever without permission or credit is stealing. It’s also just a shitty thing to do at all times but especially right now in today’s climate with AI. I know it’s sad to lose content you get comfort from but this is not the answer. All it’s going to do is drive creators away.
We share our creations with love. Please don’t be an entitled asshole in return.

Guys, I am so serious: I see you reposting my gifs, artwork, or creations OR someone else’s gifs, artwork, or creations, and I will block you immediately! I operate on a zero-tolerance theft policy.

Announcement!
First,
I cleared up my inbox and say some cute old welcome home asks! Might answer one or two because some of them genuinely sound interesting ^^ Reignited something in me fr...
Second,
I have midterms next week! So I'll be studying very hard the rest of the week and will be quite busy until next weekend probably! Posts will come to a halt until then ^^ (Unless I go insane from art abstinence /lh)
Third,
I politely asked a tiktok reposter to take down the art theyve stolen from me, but they have refused to! I'm not sure what to ask of you... Perhaps you can help me report them?
Tumblr media
Link: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFtcwLdA/
It' not like they don't know I'm the artist either... This is just plain rude :(

Here's a DM i shot them that got no reply
Tumblr media
The shamelessness they had to be following me and then stealing my art and posting it too 💀
I have them blocked now, but I hope their account gets taken down because they stole so many others art as well

I drew this original comic based on @jimabernethy ‘s dives with lemon sharks and his accounts of lemon sharks ‘getting jealous’ of him giving affection to the tiger sharks.
I admittedly neither anticipated how much that comic would blow up and circulate the internet, nor how many people would unfortunately repost and steal that comic.
I drew this in college, and I think it deserves a little update!
With a watermark this time…

Gifmaker's challenge : Reblog this post with one before/after gif just to show people the work it takes to make even the most basic gifs. I'm not even talking about beautiful colouring that a lot of gifmakers put time into, this is the bare minimum editing I'd do for a scene like this 🫶 Gif making takes so much time and effort (and sometimes, funds for external hard drives and screencap software programs and legally getting PS) so I would just like people to see how hurtful it is when gifs get reposted on Twitter and here 🥲
Tagging @bizarrelittlemew @cobbbvanth @seance @djarin @yenvengerberg @michaelsheens @saltpepperbeard @ofmd-ann and any other gif makers out there who want to participate

Art Thief/Reposter Warning
Hello Puzzleshipping artists of Tumblr. Wanted to spread awareness of a particularly prolific art thief/reposter here on Tumblr.
@qyza8kcq4x6udjq is taking and reposting the art of many artists from Twitter, Instagram, Pixiv, and even from tumblr. They are reposting the art without credit to the original artist.
You can’t report the stolen art without filling out an DMCA, and that needs done by the original artist.
But what you can do to support the original artists is DO NOT LIKE/REBLOG the reposter’s posts. Help spread this awareness among the fandom so that we aren’t inadvertently supporting and enabling this behavior.
The best we can do is encourage them to stop reposting art, as it is theft. And to encourage them to get permission before reposting and credit the original artist.
If you can, if you recognize the art, try to contact the original artists and let them know so they can have the art taken down if they so wish.

Hey! Wanted to ask a q about giffing. I saw your recent post about not reposting gifs, only reblogs. I totally get that, so how do gif reactions come into play? Like is it okay to search for a gif as a reply or comment? (or are thes two separate things im conflating?? Im such a tech grandma 😂). Anyway, i very much appreciate all the hard work you do! Your gifs are so lovely 💛
Thank you so much for wanting clarity and for appreciating gifmakers' efforts. I likewise love your writing and I'm grateful for all the hard work you put into crafting beautiful stories! ♥️ You're not the only one who has asked about this so I'm going to direct my answer to the masses:
Concerning my earlier post, reposting is when someone creates a post comprised of someone else's original creations without permission: that's never okay, whether you "give credit" or not. Reaction gifs are different. Adding a reaction gif to someone else's post is totally fine! It's part of the language of Tumblr, and the internet as a whole. Some of the greatest posts on this site are what they are because of the additional images and comments made as the post circulated. (Some of you are hiding absolute gold in your tags; please consider adding those thoughts as comments so that people can see them!)
When Tumblr added the gif search function back in 2015, many people understood what that was intended for and used that function to search for reaction gifs to add to existing posts. However, others used that function as a way to find gifs they liked, create an original post comprised solely of other people's work, and then claim that it was okay because at least they were "giving credit" ("yeah i took your stuff but at least i told everyone who i stole it from...").
Reposting is theft. Reposting removes the creator from their work and seriously damages the changes of others finding the creator. I've seen reposted work with thousands of notes, and brilliant comments and tags the original creator should have seen and enjoyed, but they didn't because someone stole that from them. I don't know a single semi-notable gifmaker on this site who hasn't experienced that and it is so disheartening. Reblogging, on the other hand, is wonderful and is what makes this site functional.
If someone asks you not to repost something they made, take it down without an argument. Telling someone they should expect other people to take their stuff if they post it online is like telling someone they should expect other people to steal their car if they park it outside of their garage. Of course it is a possibility, but we shouldn't expect or tolerate that kind of behavior. It is incredibly selfish to feel entitled to take anything you like. We should try to be respectful toward each other.
Learning the ins and outs of different social media platforms takes time, and I remember being in those shoes back in 2012 when I first stumbled onto Tumblr. I'm definitely willing to grant leeway if someone is unfamiliar with the etiquette of this goofy site. But I've also had plenty of far less pleasant interactions with reposters, almost always users who are fully aware of Tumblr etiquette (and basic common courtesy), but who chose to ignore it anyway. I have zero patience for that kind of disrespect toward myself or other creators. So, again, if I see anyone reposting my gifs, artwork, or creations OR someone else's gifs, artwork, or creations, I will block them immediately! You take my stuff and I block your access to the rest of it. So never repost. Reblog the original.

reposting content (especially art/creations) that isn't yours is theft. reposting content saying "not mine" without credit is still theft. saving content that isn't yours to your phone or computer or copy/pasting and making a post without credit is fucking theft. it isn't accidental. there were intentional steps involved. why is this difficult to comprehend. imagine how it would feel to have something you made (especially for free, often in the case of fandom) stolen and someone else taking credit for it or at the very least not giving you the credit you deserve for having made it in the first place

This acount is one Instergram and it's not a question of who did they repost from but rather who did they not repost from. All of them have credist but they're more hidden, you have to look form them.
Sorry for the lots of tags but I want you guys to know.
@castercassette @chlorenw @bibooby @garbagechocolate @crabfungi @fluffbeast7 @victarin @comphey @cacaocheri @strawbubbysugar @rayjeff @ka0tical @restinsodaroni @k0isoda @thatmooncake @fernzwing @monakamoimoi @sunnydbeam @ayyy-imma-ninja @martinsorbit @thvnderhashira @hermi-lin @starlite-starbritee @pizzaplex-stargazer @sorveteir @pillowspace @starfr00t @sillyahhchana @eggufrog @sunnybella62 @spookyuu @sanchensky @ayz0 @m340700 @camil0ncha @berrythefish
and there are many more!!!! these are just the ones i found on short notice.
If you're a DCA Artist and dont allow repost, please look through this acount there might be some of your art. I saw both bigger and smaller artists.

I still don't understand why we're stealing and reposting art and gifs without crediting the creator or using the original post? Like, why is this still a thing?? And the excuse of not being able to find the original/it was stolen by someone else first is so tiring when reverse image search exists

Do you have a Pinterest account? I’ve been seeing your ROC works and sketches on there and wanted to know whether to call out people I see posting it or to leave it be.
(Just a side note, i abso-fucking-lutely love your cinderpelt design!)
I do not have a pinterest (that I post art on) though I think maybe Tumblr has some how been putting my posts on pinterest? Like usually when I see my art on there instead of linking to a pinterest account it links directly to my Tumblr (Which I think means it wasn't reposted by an actual pinterest user??). Idk how that works tho.
I do know that some if my art has been taken and reposted by actual pinterest users, you don't need to call them out or anything tho. Its kinda just part of posting art online at this point. It WILL be reposted to pinterest at some point.

Hello, everyone. A nsfw blog (allthislatenighttalking) has reposted a bunch of my gifs without crediting me or asking for my permission. When I messaged them in private and asked them to stop reposting my gifs, they blocked me. My gifs are still reposted on their page. I’m sharing this to warn other content creators, and to kindly ask everyone to report this blog. Hopefully tumblr’s staff will take action. Thank you 🫶🏻

the newest annoying thing about twitter users constantly stealing tumblr gifs is that half of them pay for twitter. now they legitimately profit off our uncredited work with the impressions and followers they gain from it. giving credit obviously doesn’t resolve that issue, but at least pretend to give half a fuck about crediting the gifmakers you use to make money (and perhaps also start respecting the bios that beg you not to repost).
