is younger generation on Tumblr not aware of the difference between “repost” and “reblog”?
Guys, hitting that arrow-arrow thingy button so it’s shared to your dashboard is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED, THIS IS CALLED REBLOG (like retweet)
Something totally different than downloading art and posting (reposting) it as your own sdkjsjada PLEASE REBLOG ART, IT SHOWS LOVE! EDIT: Since this post is somehow picking up, let me clear some confusion! When you REBLOG (hit those two arrows following each other), the post appears on your blog but all the comments and likes and whatever it receives – the AUTHOR RECEIVES TOO. Tumblr doesn’t let you repost someone’s stuff (post as your own) unless you take the effort to download it and post it YOURSELF (you know, like a dick).
EVERY. INTERACTION. IS. TIED. TO. THE. AUTHOR✌️
REBLOGGING means showing off the amazing thing you’ve found while literally sending all the traffic towards whoever made that post. So in short, NOBODY CARES YOU LIKED SOMETHING, WANNA SHOW LOVE?
Tumblr media
PS: Fuck “X” for confusing y’all but if you are on the former Twitter and not call it “retweet” anymore just cause the stinkyman said so, then goodbye, we’re done talkin’

PSA about reblogs and reposts.
Reblogs are when you see a post you really like and you use the reblog button to show it to your followers on your own blog. This keeps the post in circulation and it's helpful and appreciated by the post creator (if it's not stated otherwise). This goes especially for creative posts. It also offers the chance to write something nice in the tags or in the reblog.
Reposts are when you see a post you really like and you just copy it and then make your own post, either on Tumblr or any other site on the internet. This erases the creator's credit (yes, even if you keep their name in screenshots, that's not enough) and they lose control over their own creative work. This is most likely not appreciated.

there is so much art reposting (and subsequent reposted art sharing) in this fandom. Is that a topic that fell off the face of the earth in the late 2010s and no one took the time to explain to you why and how you shouldn't do it?
First, reposting art means saving or copying the art to create a new post and/or putting it on another platform yourself. On tumblr, reblogging (the two arrows 🔄) is not reposting, as the original poster is still directly linked to it.
Reposting art without asking the artist's permission is rude more often than not. Many artists even have a "do not repost" warning on their page.
Why is this rude? There are a vast range of reasons, and the first one is always because the artist, a person, expressed a wish, and that's on you to respect it.
Other reasons include, for example, fanartists wanting to see the fandom's feedback and be inspired to continue to share (shaking hands with the fanfic writers), artists needing the word-of-mouth advertising as they depend on commissions and/or independent shops income for living, and just generally wanting to keep their own stuff close.
As fellow fans and/or art enjoyers, not having clear credit and link back to the artist is also sad and frustrating. What if we wanted to see more? What if there was a whole collection of similar things and we'll never know?
I know you want to share the cute art you saw elsewhere specifically because you liked it, and it comes from a place of love. I get that. You could share it with your friends behind closed door (ex: private discord server), or post a link to the art and the artist instead of posting the piece on its own.
On a case-by-case basis, you can ask an artist if you can repost their art. Some will allow it under certain conditions! Your responsibility is to respect their wishes. That is a person sharing their creation. Be nice.
"credit to the artist" is not credit.
"I don't know who made this, if anyone knows tell me" is not credit.
"this was from pinterest" is not credit. (<- pinterest is 90% repost, not a source at all)
Posting art that isn't yours is so rude and sharing reposted art just as much.
This is frustrating. Stop reposting art without asking, and especially stop reposting art without credit. And stop sharing reposted art where clear consent wasn't given by the original artist.

the way fanfiction is posted on this site and others may give people the impression that because it's free, it's free to use. it isn't. i'm deciding to share it with you for free. just because i've made the choice to do that doesn't mean i'm GIVING it to you. i own it. i'm letting you read it, but i own it. you don't have the right to do anything with it at all without asking me for permission first. it's my property, my intellectual property. do not repost, translate, or do anything with my writing or any other person's writing without them giving you explicit permission.

calling all US-based renters
I just spotted a VERY interesting request for public comments from the FTC:
The Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau invite interested individuals to submit comments about background screening issues affecting individuals who seek rental housing in the United States. Tenants, prospective tenants, tenants’ rights and housing advocacy groups, industry participants (including property managers, commercial landlords, individual landlords, and consumer reporting agencies that develop credit and tenant screening reports used by landlords and property managers to screen prospective tenants), other members of the public, and government agencies are encouraged to provide comments and information about the use of credit reports, credit scores, and criminal and civil (including eviction) public records in tenant screening; the use of algorithms in making tenant screening decisions; the use of tenant screening recommendation products developed, marketed, or sold by consumer reporting agencies; and other tenant screening issues.
The full document (pdf) also includes a series of questions about “unique impacts on historically underserved populations, such as Black,  Indigenous, and people of color; the LGBTQI+ community (especially trans and gender nonconforming individuals); military service members; immigrants; public housing voucher recipients; renters with disabilities; or others”
If you have Opinions on this, drop a comment by May 30th, 2023:

A couple of things I check to know if the person who posted is the original artist:
-their caption. usage of "ctto" aside, tumblr artists don't often caption like their art is something they discovered. if the caption is like "OMG GUYS LOOK AT THIS" or "I WOULD LOVE IF X DID THIS TO ME" or some other derivative, it's most probably a repost. even if the caption is funny, don't interact.
-their watermark. 90% of artists I know has one. it usually matches their handle or their nickname. the style of the watermark should fit the work aesthetically. some reposters (they run amok on instagram) just slap a watermark on top. be careful of this.
-their bio. check their account. tumblr artists will always say they create art. i haven't encountered a reposter who does.
-their art tag. check the original post. tumblr artists usually have a unique art tag. artists also do not tend to clutter their tags too much.
-their art style. check the art tag. if the styles drastically change on every post, then you'll know. check their line work, color treatment, and shape language. artists can create different subjects (chibi, portraits, backgrounds) but these elements usually remain the same.
of course there are more signs you should reference but these are the very basics I personally use.
what to do next:
-mix and match these to find out and run at the sign of red flags.
-report and block these accounts immediately.
-reverse image search the artwork if you can't find the source artist.
-don't bother telling the artist that their art is reposted (this only makes artists feel terrible) but send them love instead! give them a follow, interact with their works. fight with kindness.
if you want your fandom to be a living breathing community, protect your artists. be vigilant about reposters.
that's all for now. and thank you for reading this far.
tl;dr art reposters have suspicious captions, watermarks, and bios. they don't usually have a personal art tag and have inconsistent art styles. when you find these signs, block the account and check back with the artist (use reverse image search if needed) to send them your love. do not attack anyone. protect your artists and be vigilant.
please spread the word.

It is with great sadness to announce that I have somehow lost the sign pen that I used to always sketch with and this was the last drawing I had with it. I will be pondering an orb to consolidate my loss, now if you'll excuse me... When reblogging my posts I ask that you please do not remove the blockquoted source information. This information is an important part of the scans I provide, it allows people to know not just the series featured and the artist of the piece but where to get the original image and the broader context of its publication (shoujo manga magazine, children's magazine furoku, advertisement in anime leaflet, year published, etc.)
Thank you for respecting this request, I appreciate it.

This has been said a billion times on this damn webbed site and I can’t believe I have to say it again.
Serious reminder that just because someone says “original artist is ‘so-and-so’ from Twitter” underneath art, does NOT mean they got permission from the artist. In many cases the original artists are non-English speaking and may not know that their art is being reposted on tumblr. I know this has been said many times, but it bears repeating that just because the artist is “named” in the post does NOT mean it’s okay to share this art. Please do not reblog reposted art

"Credit to original artist"
IS NOT CREDIT.
"Credit to original writer - I just loved it so much I had to repost!"
DO NOT DO THIS.
IF YOU ARE NOT THE CREATOR OF THE WORK YOU WANT TO POST - DO NOT POST IT!
Y'all are really doing everything you can to make content creators furious. How many times do we have to literally BEG you people not to post our works as your own / without proper credit?
If artists say, "YES! You can repost WITH CREDIT," and then you DONT DO THAT? You're an asshole. Have some respect.
If you use AI to write your stories and say that you wrote them? You're an asshole! AI steals the works we put our blood, sweat and tears into and feeds it into a machine that spits out half-assed works.
And to those that think we can't tell - WE CAN TELL.
Fuck around and find out is all I have to say.

Some things are NOT okay to repost
For some time, convention photoshoot pictures of David Tennant and Catherine Tate with someone's children have been making their way across social media. I get it, you guys think it is supercute. But it is not okay to repost these. These children are minors. I highly doubt that those are your children. You are reposting pictures of minors to various social media platforms without the knowledge or permission of their legal representatives. I shouldn't have to say it, but unless it is a promotional photoshoot for a show or movie, it is not okay to repost pictures of children. Even if their legal representatives (i.e. parents, fosters etc.) posted them publicly to some sort of social media, it is not okay to take them from there and repost them. The same goes for reposting pictures of any other famous people with minors (and even adult people's fan pictures from any other social media - if they wanted it sent to Tumblr, they would have done that themselves. It is especially disrespectful if you take someone else's photo with your favourite star, cut the OP out and repost it, but I digress).
TL;DR: DO NOT REPOST PICTURES OF MINORS TO SOCIAL MEDIA.

‼️PSA on reposting‼️
I'll make this quick so u don't have to listen to me yapping for a full page long, so please take your time to read this.
I've been noticing my art's been making the rounds on Pinterest lately. Now I don't have a problem with reposting per se, but I DO have a problem when it's not being credited.
Just posting it with the watermark (if I didn't forget to add it in the first place) isn't enough. I'd appreciate it if there's a direct link or reference to my blog.
This also applies to literally any other artist's art you want to repost. Unless they explicitly stated they don't want it to be reposted, in which case you should simply respect their wishes.
Thank you for reading.
