There needs to be an Oracle movie

Barbara Gordon and her time as Batgirl. The subtle implications of misogyny (from criminals, emergency services, social media, etc.) and her struggles of being slightly outcast from the Bats (maybe not intentionally, but it's still felt). Despite that (and how hard the role is), she admits to feeling alive and powerful as Batgirl. She loves her ability to help Gotham, the city her dad tries so hard to shape up to be better.

Then the Joker shoots Barbara. He doesn't shoot Batgirl, doesn't even know it's Batgirl that's being injured, but he shoots Barbara because she's the commissioner's daughter. Her life changing injury isn't even about her.

There's the hopelessness, the grief, the sense of loss, and then Jason dies.

The Bats, try as they might to be there for her, are drowning in their own grief. They can't be there for her even if they wanted to.

She's wasting away with the realization that she's lost everything and her father is bending under the weight of supporting her and his job as commissioner.

Slowly, an idea comes to her. Slowly, when she starts looking out at Gotham's skyline and sees the clock tower, she begins to pull herself back together.

It's not an easy process, and she does return to depressive spirals and bed rotting, but she starts to have more decent days than bad. She's puts away her first criminal as Oracle. She becomes a feared force the Bats can turn to for help.

The end of the movie will hint at her starting Birds of Prey.

One of the saddest things I've come to realize about RWBY is that its characters are defined more by what they aren't than what they are

#rwde #weiss says she's not her father and she won't run the company like he does when she gets it #but there's not even a hint as to what she plans to do w it once she has it #if you want to show her growth as a character then her plans for the sdc are an absolute must #start her out as v business minded by solely number crunching and focusing on networking #then have her learn more abt the harm the sdc has done to make her switch focus to more humanitarian practices #maybe even wanting to abolish the company wholesale #blakes the most egregious example imo #there is not a single instance of someone arguing *for* peaceful protest. it's always *against* violent protest #which are v different things #its esp bad when you've read the comics where blake and adam are liberating people from literal cages #'what abt the crew members :(' idk blake what abt the slaves youre abandoning by fleeing to beacon?#why should we care abt workers - that we never actually see mind you- who are complicit in slavery?#even worse #WE NEVER SEE ANY CHARACTERS ACTUALLY PERFORMING PEACEFUL PROTEST #theres the flashback and the newsclip from v1 and thats IT #a past event and noise filler #riveting #im for violent protest wholesale but i still understand the merit of peaceful protest #theres actual strategy behind it that isnt purely playing into respectability politics #but youd never know that by watching this show bc peaceful protest is never a focus. it's only anti violence #and not even any good arguments even tho there are plenty to use #esp none in a world thats built around violence due to the man eating monsters roaming round #do we ever see diplomacy actually work in rwby?? i cant think of a genuine moment of solid conflict that isnt resolved w a gunblade #rwby is a fighting action show so on its premise alone it cant avoid fights #so arguing 'violence is bad :(' is doubly stupid #anyway this essay is kicking my ass almost as thoroughly as my life #words are hard #writing them down is even harder #i have like 5 different openings to the section abt this v thing and i cant figure out wtf im doing

Holy frick, imagine Starline standing up to Eggman at some point after being saved and regaining some of his self confidence back?? Just finally taking off the rose tinted glasses of admiration and gaining back enough self respect to tell him off, especially after what he did to him??

It would probably be a hard thing to do, considering this was the man he looked up to for most of his life. But doing it with someone by his side supporting him would feel right. And with some encouragement, he finally just GOES OFF on an angry, but entirely valid tirade.

Basically stating that he was a fool to look up to and continue to support Eggman the way that he did, especially considering how the Doctor treated him and cared for exactly none of it, waving him off like an annoying afterthought at the end of the day.

I feel like by the end of his rant, Eggman would actually be impressed, raising a brow. “Oh? Finally grew a spine, I see! And all it took was a couple hundred pounds of concrete...”

But Starline wouldn’t even feel any joy from that bit of praise, the words soured by just being so done with him. Starline bore his heart to the man; all his dreams, aspirations, and respect, and was repaid with nothing but disrespect and rejection the entire time.

So, he says his piece and gets to move on, focusing instead on the people who actually care about and respect him. And he finally gets to be happy gosh dangit.

A prequel of sorts to this piece.

On October 5th 1910 there was a revolution which abolished the monarchy and implemented a Republic. (More notes under the cut)

Teófilo Braga was named the president of the temporary government.

Afonso Henriques was the first king while Manuel II was the last, deposed and exiled in 1910.

There is a theory that the real Afonso was a sickly child and died young, and was then replaced with a healthier boy who grew up to be the king we know. This is not really believed to be true, but I like the idea, and it was fun for me to think that someone like Teófilo, whose vast body of work includes folk stories from around the country, would ask about it if he had the chance.

Essentially this was an attempt at portraying Port during a difficult time. I think he was tired of the monarchy and sympathetic to republican ideals and knew change was necessary. I also think he had a hard time letting go at a human level, and knew very well how difficult big socio-political transitions are.
