Please Let Alastor be explicitly AroAce
So this is one of my anxieties about the Hazbin Hotel show that I’ve been stressing about as the release date gets closer and closer. A lot of the content made by fans and voice actors leading up to this release date is supercool but I think, as an Aro-Ace (Aromantic Asexual) person, I have some thoughts on how his sexuality is handled in the upcoming show.
(Disclaimer: I am not trying to put down any specific creators in this, simply voicing my frustration as someone who never gets proper representation. This also doesn’t really count as an “essay” with a thesis, mostly just seeing if anyone else feels this way and addressing my voice as a minority in the queer community.)
In this past decade, we’ve had so much delightful LGBTQIA+ representation and it is truly amazing. My fellow AroAces and I have even gotten some of us in shows such as The Owl House and Steven Universe. However, the trend I’ve noticed with these AroAce characters is how invisible they are in their respective medias. And it’s mostly understandable why. Most modern LGBT representation is carried out by throwing two queer characters in a relationship, and since Aromanticism is defined by a lack of romance, there’s not a way to segue that in naturally unless it’s an entire plotline. And while that seems to be a lot of (allo) creators’ attitudes towards aro-asexuality, I personally don’t think that’s really true. A lot of these creators who make aro-ace characters seem to have this attitude, and while I’m grateful for the representation that we have, it’s still disheartening when that’s all we get.
Now onto the topic of Alastor. He’s only canonically been in a single pilot, where no one’s sexualities is really focused on. But as a series which will likely have a lot of romance in it, they must be some focus on it at some point. But with the direction that a lot of similar characters to Alastor have taken, with some of the comments made by certain creators, and with how much hype his character has gotten in the AroAce community, my concern is that he will have the same “silent treatment” that someone like, say, Lilith got. (Note: this is not to dump on Lilith Clawthorne. She is a badass bitch and I love her).
And since AroAce-ness is such an “invisible” sexuality due to its lack of focus on romance, it feels like a lot of (allo) creators tend to just throw it in and call it a day. But that’s just not satisfying representation anymore and it almost feels like bait. I don’t think creators do this intentionally, but it is disheartening after you’ve seen it enough times. If Alastor is like this, I will be extremely disappointed. Alastor was such a special character to me, and if his representation in the Hazbin show doesn’t live up to the hype of the AroAce community, it’ll hurt a lot more than a little.
Admittedly, hunicast’s Alastor and Angel sketches have been pretty good at satiating that AroAce-ness for me, and if that’s what Alastor is like in the show, I would be satisfied. I’m just stating my concern that it won’t be brought up at all and just render that part of his character as a useless detail thrown in “just because”. I am excited for the Hazbin show, and I also want to know what you all think. Fellow double-A’s, what are your hopes about this? Am I alone in thinking this way? Let me know!

Another post on Moon signs you can drag me for
Before we get into the actual thing, I'd like to say this post initially started as something else but ultimately, what I tried to put across is, sometimes Moon signs aren’t that easy to decipher. It’s easy to grasp overall characteristics of the signs and then learn how to identify their specific traits. But what people seem to forget it that Moon represents the deepest side of us & our inner world - it’s uncommon to really see someone’s side of it unless you really pay attention. Sometimes I’m surprised to see what someone’s Moon sign is even if I know this person well. Meaning, people usually hide that part of them - or they just simply process it internally and others can’t see their emotional reactions. It’s also uncommon for folks these days to fully express their emotional needs so it gets even trickier to pin-point their Moon characteristics. I don't think I have to mention this but, of course, your entire chart should be taken into account, as well as house placement, aspects. Personally, I like to also look at Moon's dispositor.
Let’s start from my friends, Gemini Moons, who, I feel, get a bad rep for not showing their feelings and scanning every emotion like an AI. Nah-ah. I know this one Gemini Moon whose immediate emotional reactions aren’t very cerebral in the sense of processing everything in the mind and intellectualizing it aka, what people like to label as being un-emotional. Instead her reactions are often fast (air energy) but physically expressed through Mercury (Gemini Moon’s dispositor) and Sun (overall identity) – she has them both in Aries. She’s a crybaby who can burst into tears in a matter of seconds. So she’s not something that would stereotypically be assigned to a Gemini Moon. But what I did notice is that all Gemini Moons tend to have this weird look on their face when they’re processing stuff. As if they were about to have a brain malfunction; they stop and have that specific worried look. They also like to either gossip or tell stories (either real or made up lol); they’re great with words - they can talk for hours if they feel comfortable with you. They just crave interaction and mental stimulation. Their quick reactions tend to make them effortlessly witty. Even if they’re a withdrawn Gemini type, they make up for it through social media and technology or just a quiet exploration. My shy Cancer pal with Moon in Gemini is now a brand/website designer and an instagram queen who travels the world. This is great energy for content creators in general. And don’t forget that Geminis need to have their fingers in many pies. It’s because they always have a backup plan… and they get bored easily so they need that chaos around them to feel at home. They like to have options in everything, which is kind of funny cause it’s hard for them to make up their minds and actually choose something. And they store a lot of information in their brains… I feel like it must be exhausting, no?
On the other side of the axis, whenever I see someone with a Sagittarius Moon, I can immediately say “yup, a Sag Moon indeed” (probably thanks to my Sag stellium), meaning, they all seem the same to me. Sag Moons often find comfort in exploration - best if it’s literal travel. They always seem to need to free themselves from their surroundings, family, roots or their own culture to discover something new and exciting, even if it’s only in the imaginary words - through books, movies and other medias. Their happiness always lies somewhere else from where they currently are. Like, I think all Sagittarius Moons that I know have left their parents and went their own paths early on. And they have this yolo attitude. Just like Sagittarius Suns, they’re massive dorks, probably also obnoxious… sometimes in a REALLY annoying way. They’re either a) very wise and curious b) lil preachy and stuck up c) just plain dumb clowns with no filter. But they’re all funny. And they take things lightly, with a natural ease. This means sometimes they may offend other people just because they assume everyone’s as chill as they are; „relax! I was just kidding!” - that’s a phrase you’ll hear from them often… I mean, unless you’re a jokester yourself and you’re unmoved by their sarcastic or teasing words. They have somewhat spiritual or philosophical nature so besides making you laugh, be prepared for deep monologues. They want to believe everything will eventually fall into place. It’s also hard to bring them down - or I should say, it’s hard to make them acknowledge that they're feeling down - they always try to distract or cover it up with a joke, usually a self-depricating one. If Sagittarius Moon (or Sagittarius in general tbh) is telling you that they’re unhappy, then it’s serious.
I’ve noticed there comes a point in life for a Libra Moon where they just have enough. They’re too nice for everyone and one day they wake up and yell about how they have to do everything for everyone and everyone wants something from them and bLah bLah. Makes me think of when Bieber was this overly nice kid and then he was like “I’M NOT TAKING PICTURES WITH FANS ANYMOREEEE AAGhJFJFUWIUq”. Yup, a Libra Moon, everyone. They know how to charm and appeal to people, I think overall they’re easily liked by others. Sometimes it’s simply because they like to kiss people’s ass just to avoid being rejected. That’d be a Libra Moon’s nightmare. They like other people’s company too much. And they thrive in relationships and in a big circle of friends. What they hate is confrontations (like every other Libra placement omg). They may be good mediators when it comes to other people but if they’re involved in an argument they get sooooo passive aggressive. They just don’t know how to handle conflicts - it’s as if their nervous system wasn’t designed for emotional outbursts (because, you know, everything needs to be peaceful and harmonious Venus-style). A fussy or angry Libra Moon will suddenly get loud as they blame someone for something… and then they’ll leave the room cause they’re scared to even hear the other side of the argument. Or, alternatively, they’ll make a doormat out of themselves just to stay quiet and avoid causing any rift. And making decisions? I think it’s common for them to have two different romantic interests and feeling so dramatically torned between them *Alexa play Agony from Into the Woods*. Then when they decide, they have problems breaking the bad news to one of them.
On the other end we have Aries Moons. *deep breath* Listen, I think I’ve said enough about having Moon in Aries (or rather purely dissing it) but last time it made a bit of controversy so why not wreak even more havoc. I have a good description for this one: I will punch you but be gentle with me cause it’s easy to break my fragile heart. So basically, imagine putting Buttercup and Bubbles into one person. And honestly, I need to say this, women with this placement are just hot badasses, look at friggin Angelina Jolie. The queen of badass. The queen of hot. People say because Aries folks move quickly (literally and figuratively lol), they often get bored with whatever got them excited last week... or yesterday. Ha, yeah, right. You get their heart to open up and they’re going to have their eyes for you ONLY, like a lil puppy. Give us treats and we’ll build our world around you. But NOT in a clingy way by any means, we need our space and independence after all. My lil niece is an Aries Moon and ever since I started playing guitar with her, she became my #1 fan or something. That’s the energy. But we get easily bored with day-to-day stuff so yeah, there’s that. Innocent and clumsy yet raw in their emotions - so there’s potential to make mistakes sometimes (or a lot of times) or having this tunnel vision, like „I want this and I don’t care about anything else!”. And then excusing it with some „but the heart wants what it wants” crap (looking @ ya, Selena Gomez). They experience constant inner movement and turbulence that needs a physical outlet in order to feel satisfied. WE NEED PASSION IN OUR LIVES, OKAY?!?!?? now leave me alone
Aquarius Moons aren’t as cold as you might think. People like to describe them as if their Moons actually disappeared from their charts: dEtaCheD, uNeMotiOnaL, tHey fEeL nOtHinG. It’s just they don’t sit and dwell on things, they find solutions to the problems. If something doesn’t make them feel right, they just leave that situation. They do care about other people’s well-being, they’re very sensitive in that regard, they’re humanitarians after all. Yeah, they detach, but from their own emotions - in order to make sense of them. They may seem like snow queens sometimes (and this comes from an Aqua rising) but they’re really friendly and if you pique Aqua Moon’s interest, they’re going to be curious about you. They like new exciting things so if you’re cool enough, you have their attention. Usually they’re pretty progressive as well and can’t stand injustice. That’s why you’ll see them standing up for those who are in need. Uranian energy gives them a specific type of sharp intuition and wit. Idk they’re just cute in a quirky way. But this buzzing, fast energy is a great recipe for anxiety, over-thinking and frequent changes of heart. Similarly to Sadges, they need constant exploration and stimuli. Intelligent, people-oriented (but not people-pleasing! Look to Libras for that), individualistic. They definitely need their own space and independence. Their decision-making is fast and it’s easy for them to just say „screw it, I’m doing this”. My Aquarius Moon friend just casually decided that she’s moving to Turkey cause nothing in our city (or even country) seems interesting or helping her expand… So she was like, see ya suckers, I’m leaving.
Leo Moons shine from within. You’ll spot them from a mile away even if they’re on the shyer side. They’re all lil stars no matter their profession. Very expressive people & easily excitable. Art galleries, live shows, theater - they love a creative environment even if they don’t pursue that lifestyle themselves... One of my Leo Moon friends is an art junkie – suggest taking her to an obscure play at the local bar, a music festival, a weird museum – she’ll say yes in the blink of an eye. And she loves discussing these things. A Leo Moon may not see themselves as artistically inclined, but usually sooner or later they at least try dipping their toes in music, arts, acting, dancing... you name it. They’ll learn a simple 3-chord song on a ukulele and then play it to you in excitement. Imagine a lil kid making you a puff piece and being super proud of it. Sometimes they just need some encouragement. Remember, Leos feed off of praise, that’s their fuel. Doesn’t mean they’re all proud, egotistical people but what it does mean is that they need a lil assurance to gain their self-confidence. I lived with a Leo Sun/Moon for almost 15 years (who’s a musician btw so yeah, a classic creative Leo type) - he did have some issues lol but ego wasn’t one of them. Drama followed him everywhere but I’m pretty sure he disliked it himself. BUT, with that being said, I feel like Leo Moons tend to dramatize themselves internally. People say it’s something Virgos or Geminis would do - because of their tendency to overthink, but Leos can just go straight to a worst-case scenario in their heads simply because they exaggerate everything. So don’t be surprised to see a Leo Moon feeling down and anxious. On the bright side, be their cheerleader and they’ll give that to you in return. They need sparks and dullness kills their upbeat spirit. They need to feel their own heartbeat so the feeling of excitement is crucial for their well-being. Romantic, giving and kind. They’re fixed fire so once they’re set on something or someone, they give their all and are rather loyal.
I feel like my chart low-key tells me I should dislike Taurus Moons but I just want to melt in their arms and just stay there? Like, forever? Low maintenance but a bit slow-moving and stubborn. They won’t settle easily, at least not officially, so you need to have a lot of patience with them. They need 3 things to feel secure and at peace: physical stimuli, time and a stable place they know they can always come back to. And it’s not like all of them are total lazy homebodies, they may be active spirits & travellers but they are going to have a reallyyyyy nice cosy flat somewhere near their childhood place (gotta be be close to their moms, you know). Not necessary materialistic but they may have one thing that they collect throughout their entire life and they won’t. ever. get. rid. of. it. There needs to be at least one constant in their life - like you know when Elton John decided to go to therapy but one thing he stuck to was shopaholism? Very Taurus Moon of him. Also, they’re very affectionate. In fact, may have issues differentiating between affection and passion - this is actually something Taurus Moon and Aries Moon have in common. Pro tip - and this is in regard to all Taurus placements - don’t smell bad when you’re around them (I mean, don't smell bad in general, no one likes stinky people lol). They have a sensitive smell. Doesn’t help that they like to smell everything. EVERYTHING. I swear, Taurus, stop sticking your nose in every single thing!!! You don't need to know how that piece of utensil smells like. Jeez.
Scorpio Moon (shoutout to those who remember me accidentally calling them sporpio last time I made a post on Moons lol). I honestly don’t know what to tell you... I feel like all you hear about Scorpio Moon is 100% true, there’s nothing to debunk here. It’s the Moon of extremes. Prone to jealousy and surpressing emotions; severe trust issues; they’re instigators. I was low-key bullied by a few Scorpio Moons when I was in school so there’s that. Very secretive and private. Scorpio Moon will be like “I’m in control of the situation!!!!” and you’ll just look at them and think, yeah, right, looks like the situation is controlling you. But keep being in denial, sure. Like, don’t get me wrong, Scorpios in general can be TOTAL SWEETHEARTS OMG but ya’ll have issues. Even celebrities who have this placements... Think Beyonce or Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus... I feel like they have issues lol, especially with control and the need for everything to be perfectly the way they want it to be. To be fair, that’s probably why they’re all so influential and high status: it’s either their way or highway. They need constant reinvention; they’re the ones to wake up one day and decide they’re going through a spiritual awakening blah blah. They also like to talk about dark and shocking topics while having casual lunch with you... So like, be warned that you may end up with a depressed mood after talking to them for 10 minutes. And their mood swings... don’t even get me started on that.
I don't know where to start with Virgo Moons... I feel like they're very calculated and nit-picky but they're a lot warmer than Virgo Suns. I think I called them softies in my last Moon post. Very sweet people but prone to anxiety. You gotta experience seeing them having a heart attack over someone mixing bananas with milk or messing with their stuff that’s been put in a perfect arrangement. I saw a Virgo Moon once literally squealing shouting "YOU'RE GONNA RUIN YOUR LAPTOP WITH THAT SUPERGLUE!!!" Highly entertaining to watch, not gonna lie. Gordon Ramsay has his Moon in Virgo - it’s conjunct Uranus and Pluto so that’s an extreme but I think him being fed up with people over small inconsistencies in their food prep is a perfect example of this energy (btw his chart is hilarious, it literally explains EVERYTHING). They're VERY picky with their food as well, just as Virgo Suns tend to be. Like, they’ll only have a specific type of single origin coffee or they’ll be vegan or something. Self-critical over their work, which is a plus... except for when finishing a simple task takes them a few hours because they want to make it perfect. They take everything seriously. This of course doesn't mean they're total bores - on the contrary, Mercurial energy gives them witty approach and a talent for choosing the right words at the right time. Tho they can be a bit awkward or shy with it. Can be as bubbly as Gemini but the grounded earthy energy gives them more practical and almost nurturing nature - earth signs are providers after all and Virgo is the sign of service - helping others is like their second nature. I’ve noticed they often find comfort in devoting themselves to a choosen task - this is why if they pursue something, they’re really good at it. They’re also very likely to dissect their emotions.
I’m not a fan of water Moons in general but Pisces Moon is the best water Moon in my opinion. Maybe because I like Pisces overall. I think it’s like a tweaked Sagittarius Moon - just more internalized, withdrawn & gloomy. But unlike Sag, who has a tendency to be an adventurous optimist, Pisces likes to focus on the negatives instead. Obviously, they can be very upbeat, they’re Jupiter-ruled after all, but there’s somehing whiny about them lol. Just like Sadges, they dream big and have their standards put up sooo high but if there's not much active energy in their charts, they’re often too passive to actually fullfill any of that - or I should say, they’re stuck daydreaming about it, believing it’ll just magically manifest for them... OR they do everything with an apathetic approach. What I do like about them is that they’re funny. And really chill - sometimes to the point of coming off as confused or hazy. I feel like a lot of them would just love to sleep all day... or sit by the lake and just think about the world. Most of them are also compassionate folks - again, maybe a bit too much. Hey Pisces, you don’t have to take everything to heart, it’s okay. On the bright side, they have big imagination and the ability to disconnect and just create. I have a few Pisces Moons in the family: one’s that sleepy artistic type with grand visions, one is an asshole-ish but funny entrepreneur with a questionable work ethic and one is a witty IT guy who’s actually a workaholic and likes to shut in his own world of computers and numbers or whatever he does there... So there’s this factor of tunnel vision, escapism and, on the more negative side, being kinda iffy and almost addicted to the way they want things to be. Once they set their eyes on something it’s done deal…
My issue with Capricorn Moons is that they're often trying to be sooooo mature omg, like, loosen up a bit. It usually starts when they're in their later teens... They can be the most rebellious kid that likes to have fun and suddenly they'll be like "I'm too old for this ugh grow up" *judgmental stare*. My 18-year old niece once literally roasted my sister that she's in her 30s and still doesn't have her own place (well so do I so I guess she also indirectly roasted me as well???). And she was SO deadpan with it. Because she herself wants to be independent and start a family before turning 25. This is classic Capricorn Moon energy. They suck out joy out of everything lol. Of course, OF COURSE, it depends on the whole chart but I feel like worst-case scenario is that at one point in their life (or maybe even a few times throughout it) they go through a massive shake-up that makes them change their attitude and re-evaluate their structures. There's this multi-instrumentalist Yvette Young - she's a sweet, funny Cancer/Leo mix but her Moon is in Capricorn. She used to be a competitive pianist but the pressure that was put on her has led her to severe health issues. Like yes, she’s now an extremely talented musician - thanks to family’s expectations & a rigid schooling system (Saturn) but it did cost her a lot. She has recovered since then but I think it's a perfect example of this energy. It’s very ambitious and hardworking but emotionally demanding in the sense that you have to actually put your emotions aside in order to deal with the rest. Another thing, because Moon can be associated with family, there's often a weird dynamic surrounding this topic. I don't think I've met a Capricorn Moon that had a completely healthy and happy relationship with their fam or one of the family members. Or, alternatively, there can be a strong bond between one of them but usually created in the atmosphere of hardships.
Last but not least, Cancer Moons. I had three school friends with this placement and all of them made this sad, whiny face as they said „oh I don’t knoooow anymoreee”  when they were feeling torned or frustrated. To be fair, two of them are water Suns so for them, it added to the mushyness. All Cancer Moons I know are family people or better yet, baby people. One of those school friends is now a guidance counsellor, working with kids; the other turned her instagram into a gallery of her own child after she gave birth. So much kid content, omg. There’s also something very indecisive about them… or I should say, hesitant. They’re not very fast at making decisions. Also, what’s interesting, they’re kind of like walking libraries, they remember a lot – so they store a lot of information in their brains just like air signs but they process it in a completely different way – emotional, obviously. I think this also makes them hold grudges a lot. For them it’s more of a question of „how does it make me feel?” rather than „how valid is it?”. There’s certain stubborness in them in that regard because they don’t keep their minds open. It’s also hard for them to walk away from people and situations, like a crab pinching you with its claws – it won’t let go. Sensitive but not easy to open up; very protective of themselves and their loved ones & they tend to shut down in their crab shells. But they may crave connection and the feeling of belonging. Also very caring and with a big imagination. They’re very receptive of their environment so mood swings are a thing for them.

some thoughts on mag 200
i’ve been having trouble articulating this, but i wanted to get some thoughts down on mag 200, and the ending of tma as a whole, now that i’ve heard the finale twice and had some time to process it all. putting this under a cut in case people don’t wanna see it -- there’s gonna be a lot of praise here, but also some legit criticism. this is a way to sort through my feelings more than anything else.
first off, relistening to the finale, and sitting on it for a while, has made me feel a hell of a lot better about the whole thing. the episode comes off a lot better when you’re not vibrating with fear and anticipation, in my opinion. the final statement was very fitting and cool -- not my favorite ever, but i can appreciate it a lot as a final closing for the fears. and i don’t have an ear for soundscaping but the sound in that statement was cool as hell. the jonah magnus gets fucking murdered scene is incredibly satisfying. a lot of other people have said this, but i love that jon finally got his revenge, and was able to lash out against jonah for all the years of manipulation and beng used, and for tim and sasha and everything else. that was perfect. i genuinely thought we might not get a scene like this after 193 but i am so glad we did. incredibly satisfying. the girls made it out!! i am very glad that they’re ok and moving on and seem to be leaning on each other. (By God I Will Wring Found Family Out Of This Podcast If It Kills Me.) and the admiral’s okay. love that
and the jonmartin ending. oh my god. while i was never the biggest fan of the possibility of martin having to kill jon, the way it went down was so painful and good. i loved that final scene. i love the ambiguity -- that they might have died but maybe they didn’t, maybe they’re all right and happy and we can decide for ourselves -- i love that i got exactly what i wanted, that i get to have my cake and eat it too, all the angst of a jmart death and still the possibility of happiness... i am going buckwild. i love it. the longer i spend with this ending, the happier i am with it. i really really loved it
on another note... i do have some reservations about the finale and the season as a whole. i understand peoples’ irritations with the finale, and while i’m trying to focus on the things i did like, i definitely have some irritations. for one, i definitely wish the finale had been longer. i would’ve loved to see more of what wtgfs and basira were doing, and the actual lighting of the archives, etc. and while i completely understand why the scene at the panopticon went as quickly as it did -- it comes off very much as wild, frantic impulse in the heat of the moment where they’re in danger and trying to protect each other -- i do wish it had gone a little slower.
in my mind, the biggest issue in season 5 ended up being pacing. and this might be a personal preference thing -- there’s a lot of things within the show that i don’t personally vibe with, but i don’t necessarily think they’re badly written. but i do think season 5 was slow. and while slow things can certainly work in a certain context (season 4 comes off wildly slow til you listen to 160), i wish more of what actually happened in season 5 had been baked into the end game. the season felt like it had a lot of filler, which drives me mildly crazy, because the end game feels rushed and i don’t think it NEEDED to be. i liked a lot of what season 5 did -- there’s some impeccable episodes, the character interactions are weirdly lighter and softer than they have been in previous seasons, and i wouldn’t trade a lot of the things that it’s given us (all the jonmartin interactions, jon and georgie briefly rebuilding their friendship, martin and melanie friendship, wtgfs scenes and intimacy, backstory, lore, etc) for anything. but i do think it could’ve been structured and paced a little differently. i also think it could’ve given some more screentime to the character stuff we got from episodes like 161, 170, 186, 190, 191, 192, 199... i absolutely love both martin centric monologue episodes, but i hate that we didn’t get anything like that for jon. (or for melanie or georgie or basira...) the best episodes of the season, imo, are the ones that broke from traditional form of domain statement domain, and the ones that focused in hard on backstory, lore, character introspection, character interaction... i wish we had more of this.
when it comes to the jonmartin arc... i know this has been a point of contention with a lot of people, but i don’t hate it at all. maybe it’s just because i relistened to the majority of the season back in january, but a lot of the more grating moments that seemed large week to week (martin pressuring jon to smite people, the disagreements they had earlier in the season, jon using martin as bait in 176, etc etc) come off a lot more minor when you’re binging. personally, relistening to act i made those interactions come off as things they were struggling with through continued support and reassurance. there were absolutely things i wanted addressed, especially with the “kill bill arc” -- the disagreements early in the season, and how it seemed to turn on its head in the argument they have in 194. (i didn’t like martin blaming jon for the kill bill arc and i was hoping it would get brought up.) i also wanted to see a discussion of martin going with annabelle in 194 -- i wasn’t really ever mad at martin for doing it, but i did want to see them talk it out.
but! after relistening to 200, i think i have a better handle on why that couldn’t have happened. martin goes behind jon’s back to go with annabelle and they don’t talk about it; jon goes behind martin’s back to sabotage the plan everyone agrees on in order to prevent the fears from spreading. if they’d had a big talk about trust, and working through martin going off with annabelle, and then jon turned around and did the same thing, more or less... it would’ve completely soured that discussion. jon and martin needed to be in a place of discourse for this ending to work.
honestly, the more i’ve thought about this final JM arc, the better i feel about it. sure, jon and martin are in a bad place, and they’ve gone behind each other’s backs and been somewhat selfish, but i don’t think this ruins their relationship. for one, martin’s break in trust comes from a place of wanting to save jon and the world. and for another, jon genuinely feels he is doing the right thing, making a decision he can live with. (i have my own opinions as to how ethical jon’s decision was, but that’s another post. and i think the muddy ethics of this ending are on purpose -- it’s horror, a genre that often doesn’t offer ethical decisions.) their final decisions and final moments come from a place of love and protectiveness, and they change their decisions for the other. they still love each other, through all of it. i don’t think these late stage betrayals equivalate jonmartin necessarily being doomed as a couple (not that anyone has said that, but it’s worth saying). and i think it’s important to remember that this is still a relatively new relationship. it existed for approximately three weeks before the literal apocalypse, and it’s been under an immense amount of stress, as well as the constant fear that one or both of them would die. (which they did.) i’m not saying that excuses certain things they’ve said or done, but i am saying i don’t think the relationship is doomed. i think, if jon and martin have survived, they’ll need to work through things. they’ll need to talk it all out. and they’ll be able to! they’ll heal from this one way or another. the tragedy isn’t that jonmartin is doomed, or toxic. it’s that these moments of betrayal are what dooms them. and the beautiful undercurrent of it all is that they still manage to come together, and make decisions that mean they stay together. and that wherever they are, they’re still together.
all in all, i don’t think season 5 has been perfect, and i can make my peace with that. (tma’s worst is a hell of a lot better than most shows’ best.) (i also think it might be worth considering how covid could have affected certain aspects of how the season was written -- pandemics are stressful, and i can’t imagine what it’s like to finish an enormous, in the works for years project like this in the middle of that. personally, i’m impressed they’ve managed to finish the show through all of this and keep it to a similar quality.) i think critiques are valuable and worth discussing. and i think plot aspects aside, there are several other critique related things that could be brought up about this season that people have articulated much better than i ever could. but i also, personally, want to walk away from the show feeling satisfied. i tend to be weirdly positive about things i love (the x files finale was horrendous, but i managed to get to a place where i was happy with it, for example), and i think that applies here -- even more so because i really did love so many aspects of that finale. i don’t necessarily want to linger in my own mind over what i disliked, especially considering the show is over. although i did want to air out my thoughts.
i still love this show. i loved a lot of episodes this season, frustrations aside. season 5 will forever be my only live tma experience, and it got me through one of the worst years of my life, and i am very grateful for this. i genuinely did just want to air out my thoughts and get them all down on paper. these are just my opinions -- i don’t want to criticize anyone who feels differently about the finale, or the season as a whole. everyone’s opinion is their own.
i feel a lot, lot better about mag 200, to the point of genuinely loving it. i hope my appreciation only grows as i get further from that frenzied first day and have more time to sit with it. and i can’t wait to see all the art and read all of the amazing fics that are going to come out of this ending (and write some of my own). it’s been a wild ride. i’m glad i was here for it.

Thomas Sanders: Critical Opinions on Recent Issues
I’ve been a fan of Thomas and his work since 2017. I’ve always enjoyed his content and talent but the past few months have changed my perspective of him a bit. No, I don’t think he’s a monster but he’s not the super wholesome, unproblematic creator I assumed he was.
The most recent issue is the poor treatment of the animators that worked on the recent Madlibs video. Now I’ll admit I don’t know much about the industry or animation but it seems clear that the TS team took advantage of the youth and inexperience of these animators. Yes, the animators signed the contracts but the team still chose to pay them incredibly poor wages for their work. Even though they paid them, this comes across as the team saying the animators should’ve been grateful just for the exposure; even though they weren’t credited properly initially. The blocking of animators by the team and Thomas’ silence further adds to the unprofessionalism. What this comes down is the team taking advantage of Thomas’ knowingly young audience.
Now, I’m in my mid-twenties so I consider myself an old Fander. I do know that most Fanders are younger than me, many still in high school. I think Thomas tends to forget that. Not in inappropriate ways but with how he handles criticism. For example, the incident from a couple weeks ago where a tumblr-user sent Thomas an ask critiquing his Virgil skirt outfit. Thomas, who rarely replies to Tumblr asks these days, decides that of all the messages to respond to, to choose that one. Doesn’t bother to hide the person’s username and just posts his reply on his public Tumblr page. This resulted in that user and other parties involved getting slammed with hate from other Fanders. Thomas deleted the ask later that day...Thomas, as a 31-year old adult man, should have known better. Yes, the ask was rude but it was clear from looking at the users’ pages that they were young with one of the party’s being only 18. I expect a 30+ adult to handle the situation with more grace and take what some random young fan says online about them with a grain of salt. Thomas should know how social media works and that his audience will attack anyone they think crossed him. He deleted the post so he knows what he did was wrong, but the damage was done.
This leads into a more general issue I have with Thomas and how I feel he relies too much on his audience for support and validation. I know having body and self-esteem issues is difficult but he shouldn’t be making posts about how he hates his body, so his young, teenage audience can assuage his insecurities. He should be using the support of his own friends in private for that. To an older fan, like me, it comes cross as a bit like he’s using his audience and just fishing for compliments.
So I think Thomas is still learning how to manage a business team. Maybe he has blurred the lines too much from this just being a group a friends making videos and being working professionals with a boss/employee relationship. I’m not a part of the Patreon so I don’t know if users have been satisfied with it. I do know that they are making at least $14,710 a month from it (that’s the bare minimum if every user pledged only $5). So I’ll be very disappointed and suspicious if we don’t see a large increase in video production speed and quality soon.
So that’s my opinion, let me know if you agree or disagree and we can chat about it.

Random question - what’s your opinion on the direction the bad batch is going in? A lot of the fandom is disappointed myself included
I have a lot of thoughts on this. I’ll preface this by saying that my biggest critique of TBB is its white washing, and that’s almost my only issue.
A lot of people in the fandom tend to forget that TBB (and TCW, Rebels, etc) are for kids. Of course they have filler. All shows have filler, especially if their target audience is a young one. You expect kids to have the ability to commit fully to a storyline that lasts an entire season? No, that’s why TCW and TBB have arcs and filler. It really doesn’t bother me.
I know a lot of people were pissed that this week we had filler, and I hate to sound like a bitch but I really didn’t mind. I already know that we’re going to see the resolution of the Crosshair plot line, it doesn’t anger me that I’m not getting immediate satisfaction. I guarantee that if TBB S1 had all of its episodes released at once half of people’s criticisms wouldn’t exist. I can say with confidence that I think half of the fandom wouldn’t be able to handle being a fan back when TCW was airing and having to wait week after week for filler, weird arcs, and no plot progression. We’re too used to instant satisfaction. We’re going to see the Crosshair plot resolved, whether people are satisfied or not with the conclusion, it’s going to come. It’s not just been dropped. Just have patience.
Mad about the characterisation of TBB? That’s a completely fair criticism. I would’ve liked to see more of certain characters for one - personally I think that the Batch not yet attempting to rescue Crosshair is fine. It was pointed out in episode 3 that they miss him and agreed with Omega that they’ll eventually attempt rescue - it just hasn’t happened yet. Just because they’re not mentioning it every episode doesn’t mean they’ve abandoned their brother. It’s a kid show - they’re not going to get into those feelings every episode. It’s action based.
Having grown up with Star Wars I’ve learned one thing - Star Wars fans will complain whether somethings good or bad, and the only opinions you should value on the majority of SW content are your own, which is what I try to do. If you’re not a fan of TBB - cool. If you are - also cool. I truly do not care. If you’re angry about the Crosshair situation then by all means be angry! You’re entitled to feel how you feel. And just because the majority of SW content is aimed towards kids doesn’t mean that we can’t criticise it - that’s definitely not my point, I wanna emphasise that. My opinion is just my own and I’ll respect yours as long as you respect mine.

My excitement rivalled Impa’s here when @jabberwockyface brought this scene from my story to life. It is a true delight and I adored the addition of the cuccos!
I have been working on my longfic for quite some time now and was only intending to publish when complete, but this art has me so pumped I thought I’d drop a ‘trailer’ XD
Please enjoy Chapter 1 of Insurrection, a ZeLink story set mainly after the fall of Calamity Ganon
The Horizon
Impa woke early and sighed as she looked up at the large wooden beams in the ceiling of her house. One of the small, lidded lanterns hanging there, usually alight with a soft, golden glow, had gone out during the night. No matter, she thought. An oil refill would just be one of the mundanities to be dealt with over the course of the day. She had always been an early riser, though for the past two decades or so, her aged bladder was demanding she be up at sparrow’s fart to cater to its whims.
She was nestled atop her three red pillows which were stacked like a pyramid. This was where she liked to stay these days, meditating and even sleeping. Her granddaughter, Paya, had long since had the upstairs bedroom to herself.
Rising to stand atop her pillow tower, with quite a few bodily creaks and vocal sound effects, Impa hopped down. She gently removed her large round hat and placed it in the vacated spot, then saw to her ablutions before a morning walk. She poodled around the ground floor of the spacious living quarters, which also doubled as the town hall. Having the largest house in the village was one of the perks of being the Elder. Her seating platform was centrally located toward the rear of the room and looked out across a spacious, open floor plan. Dark blue mats decorated with a diamond pattern sat neatly aligned in rows and served as a comfortable place to sit when village meetings or festive gatherings took place. Her pillow tower looked straight down an aisle, lined with a blue rug, toward large double doors that led outside to the veranda.
Set in a free standing wooden frame behind her perch was a canvas tapestry. Its earthy color palette and tribal art style depicted a very specific history of the Kingdom of Hyrule. There was a large monster embroidered in the center, and it was flanked by what seemed to be a divine person on the left, and a warrior on the right. There were hundreds of machines surrounding them and in each corner were strange animals ridden by pilots of varying races. Due to the nature of the design, it was unclear if they depicted any of the races residing in Hyrule today.
The platform was flanked by two staircases which rose to the back of the house and then turned on ninety degree angles to meet in the middle at the top. To the right and left of her platform on the outside of the stairs were four posts topped with frog guardian statuettes. They bore the red Sheikah symbol on their bellies, an open eye drawn in a minimalist style with a central tear. Various banners and lanterns hung from the rafters, and low shelves lined the walls. Like the other dwellings in Kakariko Village, furnishings and household items were sparse as most Sheikah lived a simple and humble life, free from clutter.
Impa regarded her wide and wrinkly face in the water basin that sat on one of the low shelves. The reflection reminded her of how much time had passed. She splashed the sleep out of her eyes and made her way upstairs to check on Paya, as she did every morning. She favored going up the right staircase, so she could come down the left in a satisfying circle.
Reaching the second floor, she went over to the bed against the back right corner to look upon her sleeping granddaughter. The young woman usually slumbered well into mid-morning as she tended to pray until very late at night. Impa pressed her forehead against Paya’s and their matching, but different colored Sheikah eye tattoos touched. Though she hadn’t meant to cause a stir, Paya yawned and whispered, “Grandmother?”
“Shhh, it’s still very early, dear,” Impa cooed. “Go back to sleep.” She wanted to tell Paya that she stays up much too late praying outside to the village guardians. But she knew the young woman was doing her best to help bring success to their courageous Hero. He needs all the help he can get, she thought earnestly.
Satisfied that all was well with Paya, she headed back down and paused to view the large painting which hung above the low shelves on that side of the house.
The verdant marsh it depicted was spotted with just a few trees and a grey range of hills in the backdrop, topped by fluffy clouds in a blue sky. Toward the rear of the landscape, to the left and right of the center of the canvas, were two weathered stone ruins indicating that this area had not always been a marsh. Spread out in the foreground were some strange looking, bell shaped machines. The one closest to the viewer on the left side of the frame had a single eye-like protrusion in the middle of its bucket-shaped head.
They were all partially sunken into the marsh, becoming overgrown by time. The furthest one had a single, tentacle-like limb sticking out from its wide base, as if it had once been going in that direction. Overall, they seemed oddly out of place- yet also part of the greater scenery. Impa sighed and wondered, like so many times she had sighed in this spot before, if that fateful marsh would ever again reclaim being just a beautiful field.
Time to get moving before breakfast, she decided as she headed for the front door. She had just started to open it before realizing she had forgotten her hat. She tut-tutted herself as she headed back to claim it. One had to look proper if going outside. Her large, straw hat had a very wide and circular red brim which swooped up into a tall metal ornament that brought it to a point. The Sheikah symbol was prominently featured in red on the front. It also had five chains hanging from the brim with axe blade-esque ornaments that swayed metronomically as she walked. Placing her beloved hat on her head, she headed outside.
She was greeted by a bright, blue summer sky and squinted as her eyes adjusted to the golden glow of sunlight spilling over the valley walls. She never tired of this tranquil vista. Tall, steep mountains with weathered, rounded peaks flanked her view to the right. These were aptly named the Pillars of Levia. She followed a flock of ducks with her gaze as they flew over the mountain vale in a perfect v-formation. They passed a lone peak on the left which towered above the forest on the hill behind the village. This small mount had a more flattened mesa at its peak rather than a weathered mound like the others. Another group of birds she couldn’t make out through the bright sunlight swirled around the top.
As she descended her long front steps, she felt content, taking in the sounds and smells of her home. The breeze which blew through the valley from the west carried with it the scent of the grassy slopes and the wooden chimes that were suspended from ropes between posts all around the village, were gently teased into their soft rattle by it. The cuccos added their crow to the morning chorus.
At the base of the steps was a wooden-framed, open gate. She tilted her head slightly to the side so that as she passed under, the ornament of her impressive hat could avoid catching on the three banners hanging there. On either side of the gate were some young plum trees. The lovely white blossoms they produced in spring were something she looked forward to seeing every year. These plum trees, as well as the others scattered around the village, acted as the residents’ protectors, just like the frog statuettes. They also symbolized endurance and prosperity, two values which Impa had instilled in her people for the better part of a century.
She nodded to the guard who kept the late night and early morning watch at her gate. He was adorned in standard Sheikah attire, a pair of beige trousers and a tunic with a high back collar and red trim. A dark blue undershirt could be seen that matched the blue diamond-shaped pattern on his straw hat. His hat was much different than Impa’s in that it appeared to be a woven disc of straw that he folded over his head and strapped under his chin. It also sat prominently forward to allow for his high, white bun to stick out at the back of his head. Some red chopsticks poked stylishly out of the side of his big bun.
Cado returned the nod with a short and respectful bow. “Lady Impa.” He waited for the Village Elder to take several paces before retrieving his quiver from against the gate and followed at a polite, but observant distance. Though her residence was always guarded, he felt he should be extra vigilant about her safety when she ventured out, especially since there had been an unexplained theft not too long ago.
He checked over his gear as he followed Impa through the canyon pass that led north out of the village. On his back he carried a darkwood Phrenic Bow, good for long distance accuracy. On his waist was sheathed an Eightfold Blade, the traditional, single-edged sword of the Sheikah people, and one of the remaining vestiges of their ancient technology. Etched at the blade’s base was the tell-tale eye symbol, believed to offer the user an extra layer of spiritual protection.
Impa walked along at a slow but comfortable pace, enjoying the sound of the breeze whistling through the canyon walls. As she approached a large open gate, one of three marking the entrances to the village, she paused at the sound of a rustle. She looked back at Cado who had drawn nearer, with one hand reaching for the handle of his blade, ready to react to the disturbance.. She merely smiled and shook her head. After taking another step, a lizard dashed out of a tuft of grass and made its escape up the canyon wall.
The north canyon did not lead out of the village as such. After about a ten minute walk, the narrow walls fanned open to a natural platform which offered a scenic, if slightly restricted, view of Hyrule due to the high cliffs on either side. The serenity of this place and the breathtaking view overlooking Hyrule had inspired the community to recognize it as a sacred site. Here they paid their respects at the graves of their loved ones. Unlike Hylian graves, which tended to spread out over an area, the Sheikah piled narrow, upright stones on the left side of the clearing. They were placed without any inclination to create neat rows, and their jumbledness added a certain charm. The only markings were caused by the passage of time, demonstrated by how weathered and overgrown with moss they were.
To the right was a single, large tree, its shade offering a welcome respite to those who visited during the hottest hours of a summer day. Just past the tree stood a simple wooden fence. A precaution for children, or perhaps for those foolish enough to get too close to the drop off overlooking Lake Telta.
At this time of the morning, the sun had yet to reach the clearing, so it was still in the shadow of the cliff walls. Impa slowly shuffled up near the fence, her head bowed in respect as she passed the graves. To offer Impa privacy with her morning prayers, Cado held back just before the canyon opened up.
Goddess Hylia, she prayed, keep Princess Zelda safe within your womb. Lend her your strength so that one day, with the aid of the chosen Hero, she may overcome and banish the Calamity. Even now, as over the course of a century, the Princess was trapped in the castle, bound in an endless battle of wills with the malice of Ganon. Impa would never forget the night the poor young woman had come to the village in ruins.
In those days, she had been assigned as an Adviser to the Royal Family of Hyrule. Her duties in this capacity focused mainly on heading the research into various ancient Sheikah technologies. Her older sister Purah and another scientist, Robbie, ran their own divisions under her guidance. Princess Zelda had eventually joined their ranks as well after she showed a great aptitude for scientific research. During her spare time outside of devotions, she possessed an unrivaled curiosity for a wide array of subjects, which was beneficial to the research teams. Having such a high connection within the Royal Family meant that their work was well funded continuously.
Their efforts were in answer to a prophecy that had been delivered to the Royal Family. It spoke of the revival of a legend known as The Calamity, a primal evil which had risen to plague the land ten thousand years ago. King Rhoam was hoping to use the same means their ancestors had to defend against the possible return of The Calamity. The more they uncovered, the more they realized the legends were true.
Relics, which came to be known as Divine Beasts, were unearthed in various locations across the land. Impa’s teams began an intense study of these artifacts, as well as the many Shrines that dotted all of Hyrule; though they were, as yet, unable to ascertain how to gain access to their inner sanctums. They also uncovered the smaller, autonomous Guardians. Robbie took a great interest in these contraptions and even brought some back to working order.
But Calamity Ganon had outsmarted them.
~~~
As the sun was setting, a young Impa and her team of scientists were concluding their experiments for the day and packing up under the stone pavilion in the castle courtyard. Suddenly, a large rumble echoed around the area, followed by a short earthquake. Everyone fled out from under the roof in case it collapsed but immediately froze in shock upon seeing the castle being engulfed in a swirling pink and black miasma. It circled around and took the shape of a boar-headed demon. A cloud continued erupting into the sky and started to spread, mirroring the overwhelming sense of dread everyone was now feeling. No, we’re not ready!
Before they had time to react, globs of malice erupted from the castle and began to rain down on the ground. The creature roared menacingly to the sky from the epicenter as if to announce its freedom and dominion over all. Impa watched a large glob soar over them like a meteor. She turned northwest to follow its trajectory. Is it possible it was headed for Rito Village?
Someone screamed and she snapped back around to see that the stationary Guardians they had been working with had become active on their own. They were glowing magenta with an evil energy, their heads spinning back and forth as if they were calibrating. Her instincts kicked in and she ordered everyone to grab the most important things. “Take the research! We must get it safely to Kakariko!” At once, people ran in all directions trying to gather their most important work.
Purah ran over to her younger sister and looked at her frantically. “Impa, the Guidance Stone!”
Impa closed her eyes and bowed her head. “We should only save what we can-”
Purah grabbed her arms and Impa looked back up at her in surprise. She was hardly ever so serious. “Anything we take from here will be useless junk unless we have the Guidance Stone to access it. This is not a discussion. It’s a necessity and you know it.”
“Fine. But just us. I’m not risking anyone else going in there.” She looked up towards the high pointed towers of the castle, some now covered in a dark ooze.
“Fine,” Purah acquiesced and started to walk away. “Just us, and Robbie.” Robbie, who had been stuffing schematics into a satchel whipped around at the sound of his name.
Impa grabbed her sister’s arm and pulled her back. “What did I just say?!” Suddenly, one of the Guardians stopped spinning its head back and forth and now focused its single blue eye on the Sheikah women, who were too wrapped up in their stare-down to notice.
Robbie paled. “Oh... shit!” They had seconds. His eyes darted around for something, anything... There! A Royal Guard, easily identified by his red tunic under a gold embroidered dark blue tabard, was running their way carrying a large, half-bodied shield.
The Guardian began emitting an ominous beeping noise and a red laser targeted Impa. Robbie pounced on the guard and grabbed his shield away. “Sorry, my man!”
Purah gasped when she saw the red laser on Impa’s shoulder, and utterly terrified, yelled, “Jump back only when I say!”
Impa’s eyes widened in fear as the beeping got faster. Robbie scrambled over to them as the Guardian made a piercing noise, and blue energy shot out of its eye with the intent to destroy. There was a massive ricochet as Robbie parried the energy back at the Guardian with his pilfered shield. Its eerie pink glow fizzled out and it blew to pieces, cogs and gears flying everywhere.
“WOOOOO!” Robbie exclaimed. “Yeah!” He pumped his fists and stretched out a bit. “Man, I saw the Champion do that once and have been wanting to try it ever since.”
Impa, who had ended up huddled on the ground with Purah behind the thrill-seeker, now stood and pulled her sister up as well. “Right, so it’s just us, and Robbie.”
She watched as the rest of the Royal Guard’s unit arrived and set upon the other stationary Guardians before they also had the chance to start working. Robbie returned the shield to the guard he had ambushed and instructed him on the technique to parry the blasts. “The shield should withstand a number of hits this way,” he explained.
Impa’s mind was a flurry of questions. Was the miasma poisonous? How did it take control of the Guardians? Could they make it to the Guidance Stone?
The Royal Guard unit had now taken out the other three legless Guardians, but she feared it was a small victory. The research team tried to settle now that the immediate danger in the vicinity was over, but every noise set them off, causing them to pause and look around like prey at a watering hole.
She then heard members of the Garrison yelling from the Western Gatehouse, “They’re coming out of the pillars! DOZENS!”, “Hylia above, they’re headed for the town!”
Her stomach flipped over as she thought of those monstrous contraptions overtaken by evil. The very machines that were supposed to protect them were instead destroying everything in their path. All those people...
They had to get out. Now.
Her researchers started to panic after also hearing the desperate cries. She had to focus again, lead them. She addressed them in her authoritative tone, “Everyone, stay calm. We’ll make for the docks. The south exit is... compromised.” Impa looked over to see the Royal Guard leaving to heed the cry from the Western Gatehouse.
“Sir Karane!” she called out. She ran over from under the pavilion to hail the Knight who had just led the assault on the stationary Guardians.
Karane held out an arm to stop her men. When the last one fell into line, she turned a pair of steely blue eyes toward Impa and crossed the same arm over her chest, tilting her head forward in respect. “Adviser.”
Impa regarded the soldiers, some of whom seemed itching to get to the battle. Luckily, she had a better fate in store for them. “The ancient tech research team requires an escort. It’s imperative we get this material safely out of the castle.” Karane spared a glance at the scientists stuffing papers and artifacts into any available containers they could find.
“We have a possible escape route via the docks,” Impa continued. Best case scenario is obtaining some horses and a cart for this gear,” Impa continued.
Sir Karane bowed curtly and then turned sharply to address her unit, her red braid whipping behind her. “You heard her men! We are now on special assignment for the Royal Adviser! Three of you with me,” she gestured to the men on her left. “We’re going to commandeer ourselves a ride. You four, make sure the way is clear to the docks. The rest of you escort our scientists!” She held an arm out to Impa and they clasped each other’s wrists.
“Thank you, Sir Karane.” Robbie and Purah came up beside Impa and she nodded their way to indicate to Karane that they would be working together. “We must retrieve the Guidance Stone. We’ll do our best to meet you there. If these things find you,” she looked towards the felled Guardians, “then leave without us!”
“I’ll give you an hour.”
Impa nodded. “If we don’t make it, there is another stone at the Royal Ancient Lab. I imagine they are doing the same and taking what they can.” She regarded the remaining regiment. “Can you spare your fastest guard from this lot and have them instruct the other team to rendezvous with us in Kakariko?”
“A solid plan, leave it to me.” Karane walked away and yelled, “Konba! I hope you’ve had your rushrooms.”
Impa then left her team in good hands as she went to fetch the Guidance Stone with her sister and Robbie; who was grinning, as he’d acquired himself another shield.
It was a rather large blessing that when they arrived at the docks, the research team was still there, unharmed. It seemed like they got ahead of the Calamity just enough to slip out the back, though the same couldn’t be said for the residents of Castle Town. Impa tried not to think about it as she helped shove the cart with the Stone and its activation pedestal onto the boat.
They made it across the river in the two boats which had been moored at the docks, and battled their way up the sloped bank. The ones who weren’t pushing stared blankly across the river at the scene of destruction unfolding before their eyes. The ones who didn’t want to see busied themselves with helping. Once they reached the grassy Irch Plain, they moved quickly without resting to scale the Elma Knolls. These would at least provide them some cover before heading east. It was unsettling to be so close to a pillar behind the castle, but it appeared that, at least for now, the invasion was focused on Hyrule Field.
After retreating to her village, which was currently safe in the mountains, Impa had sent out a search party for Zelda. She stood in the same spot near the graveyard under the tree, looking in horror at the castle across Hyrule Field. It was still engulfed in a swirling black and magenta miasma. The giant pillars, the existence of which she was aware but had never seen before they had risen out of the ground, were angled toward the castle. They had originally been meant for protection and housed the Guardians that, in the past, defended Hyrule. But all the Guardians had been turned against them, and the pillars were now menacing rather than a comfort. She thought they looked like the fingers of a demon come to enclose the castle in its grasp.
At the base and to the left of the ominous cloud was a wide, orange glow. Castle Town was destroyed; engulfed in flames.
~~~
When Zelda was later escorted into Kakariko, Impa discovered she was there on a mission, and had come bearing a request. She was a bit weak on her feet, but refused rest and clean clothes. Even though she was muddy and her white prayer dress was in tatters, she would not be deterred.
The worst had befallen the Kingdom and she just had one hope: that their Hero would return one day, as she saw when the Master Sword spoke to her. She sat in Impa’s old house at the time, bathed in a soft yellow light from the lanterns. She explained to Impa and the other scientists, her friends, Purah and Robbie, “Link must regain control of the Divine Beasts! Ganon has taken them from us. He controls them now and… and the Champions were… they’re gone.” Her hard stare and exhaustion made it look as if she was going to cry, but at this point she was out of tears, trying desperately to replace them with determination.
Impa felt a weight pool in her gut at the news. So the malice she had seen heading for Rito Village was meant for Vah Medoh, and spelled Champion Revali’s doom. She thought of each Champion, having returned to their Divine Beasts, only to find a deadly trap. She was silent for a moment, unsure; wondering if she should offer comfort or if that would merely be a distraction at this point. Her sister was fiddling with random items she could reach on the table, but rather than be annoyed, she knew it was Purah’s way of dealing with stress.
Zelda then gave a weary sigh and continued. “There’s a chance that Link may not retain some of his memories while in the shrine, so I have an idea of how to help him when he wakes.”
Impa nodded and silently agreed with Zelda’s sentiment. It was when he wakes, she thought, not if he wakes. It was best to be thinking positively in such dire circumstances.
“Purah,” Zelda looked at Impa’s sister, who stopped braiding the frayed threads of the tablecloth as if she’d been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to. “I sent the Slate with Link and the Sheikah who found us to the Shrine of Resurrection. He’s going to need it when he awakens.” She paused and then added, “For guidance and access.”
She thought back to her discovery of the towers underground, the existence of which she had not yet been able to discuss with anyone due to trying to keep her research a secret from her father. He would have her only praying to awaken her power, rather than try to help in any other way. So she had been biding her time, not knowing that it would soon run out.
Now, there was only time to act, so she focused on the most important things and didn’t bother to elaborate. Telling Purah and Robbie about the towers was pointless anyway since only Link, as the chosen Hero, would be able to access them.
“I need you to take the contents of the Compendium out of the Slate and keep them in your Guidance Stone. Hopefully the images, or visiting the places where I took the pictures, will help him remember things.”
Purah agreed and nodded, “The Guidance Stone will keep them safe.” She stood from her chair and looked over at Robbie. He seemed to be lost in the shadow of self-loathing, head down and fists clenched at his knees, all previous bravado gone. “Robbie, let’s go see to Link. He’s not going to heal himself.” Robbie looked at Zelda sadly as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t bring himself to. Purah snapped his attention away. “Quick smart!”
They made to leave the house and prepare their things when Zelda called out, “Purah wait! The last picture in the Compendium. Can you delete it but keep a paper copy like the one you made of us before? When the Champions were alive and happy. He should remember that last. It was where he… where I…” She tried, but couldn’t bring herself to talk about what had just happened, “it was where we parted,” she finished, while lowering her eyes in emotional defeat. “I don’t want him to be overwhelmed right after he returns to us.”
Purah blinked her red eyes, suddenly feeling trapped into a sense of responsibility that felt heavier than putting Link into an untested machine. That’s going to be fascinating- Focus Purah!
“I… of course I can make a copy, Princess.” She looked furtively over to Impa. It was one thing for the Guidance Stone to hang onto something in its database, but she, personally? She thought of the state of her workspace at the Royal Ancient Lab, which probably didn’t look so different now that it had most likely been reduced to rubble.
Impa knew her sister well and fought off a massive eye-roll in the presence of the Princess. “Once you are finished in the Shrine, bring me the picture and I will keep it safe for Link,” she offered reassuringly.
Purah visibly relaxed. “Sure thing, Sis.” She prodded Robbie to open the door as he was nearest.
Robbie slid it open and before stepping out, softly spoke to Zelda. “Good luck.” He couldn’t manage much more than that.
Purah looked back at Zelda, looking so small and forlorn, and stuck her chin out with conviction. “Zelly,” she said, “You give that Ganon bastard what for. And don’t get dead!” She followed Robbie out and the room suddenly felt heavier in her absence.
Impa placed her hand on Zelda’s shoulder, and though the young woman was doing everything she could to remain brave and strong, she was shaking. Impa was certain that there was a good amount of fear behind that shaking, but if any part of it was due to lack of nourishment, she wasn’t having it. “Let’s get you something to eat and drink before you go.”
Zelda’s head snapped up. “No, I should leave right away. I’ve already stayed too long. The more time I take, the farther the Guardians can go. They’re laying waste to the Kingdom!”
Impa tutted, “As if I’d let you face Ganon on an empty stomach. What would Sir Link say!?”
~~~
Since that day, Impa prayed for her Princess, overlooking a horizon that never changed. She eventually married, had a child, and then a grandchild. And though her life had known massive loss, and this sacred ground where she stood was for mourning, it was also a place of hope. Hope that one day the Hero would return, and things would change. As more time went by, she became uncertain if she would see Link again. She had started to seriously consider passing Zelda’s message on to Paya should he wake after her death.
But he had come, and with him, an ever-changing vista as he reclaimed the Divine Beasts from Ganon’s control one by one. His successes were revealed to her when she would come out here to pray. The Beasts aimed their divine light as red beams towards the castle from their respective perches across the land, ready to fire when the Hero finally faced his evil foe.
Now there was only one hurdle left, though it was certainly the highest. Before Link was awake, Impa had given most of her prayers to Zelda. But since his return, she prayed for his boundless courage to succeed in the fight against Calamity Ganon. For if he failed, she couldn’t imagine the dark world her granddaughter would inherit.
Impa finished her prayers and raised the brim of her hat to look at the castle on the horizon. She sucked in a breath as she took in a change to the scenery she’d been waiting to see for a hundred years. The cloud of malice had gone. “Eeeeee!” She gave a toothy grin and smacked her thigh.
At the sound of her shriek, Cado rushed over, his weapon drawn. “Lady Impa, what is it!?” She practically barreled past him at top old lady speed, leaving him confused as to where the danger was. He, too, then saw the castle and chin dropped silently agape.
“Cado!” She yelled, while hobbling back to the village. “Get everyone to make preparations. The Princess is coming!”
She rushed toward the house and almost ran over a cucco that unfortunately strutted in front of her gate. It squawked and flapped out of the way at the last second, allowing her to huff up the stairs. Cado, who was following just behind, picked up his panicked cucco and scratched under her wings until the cuddle calmed her down.
“You’re ok, my lovely. The mean old lady was rude, wasn’t she?” He whispered. He waited until Impa was safely inside before walking across the main path to the Inn to inform Ollie to prepare a suitable place for the Hero and the Princess. Lady Impa would want only the very best hospitality that Kakariko could offer.
Ollie blinked as he groggily woke up from sleeping at his desk, and stated, “Hey, no cuccos allowed in the- wait,” he squinted, “a princess is coming?”
Cado lifted an eyebrow and sighed in annoyance. “I’m holding her, she just had a scare.” He stroked the cucco’s tail feathers. “Did you not hear anything I just said?” The Innkeeper just blinked slowly again, so he raised his voice, “The Calamity is gone, Ollie. The Hero was successful, and now Lady Impa is sure that he is to arrive here with the Princess at any moment!”
Ollie now made an ‘O’ of realization with his mouth and gazed off into space. After a moment passed he looked back at Cado. “Well, I’ll be.”
“Yes. So make sure they have every comfort,” Cado repeated as he turned around to make his way back to his post. He paused at the open door and looked back at Ollie, his cucco now tucked under one arm clucking softly. His stern stare implied that he needed affirmation.
“Right, right.” Ollie waved with a dorky half-smile. Cado, now satisfied, slid the door closed behind him. Ollie immediately slouched again. I’ll get to it in a bit, he thought before swiftly falling back asleep. Claree, who ran the tailor shop in town, was convinced he was actually a cat who could shapeshift into a Sheikah because of how often he slept.
As Impa entered the house, she yelled for her granddaughter “Paya! Paya, wake up!”
Paya’s eyes flew open and she kicked her covers off, her feet thumping on the upper level as she rushed to her grandmother’s call. Impa had only made it halfway up the lower steps when she ran into a descending flurry. “Grandmother! What’s wrong?! Are you ok?” Her two red hair bun chopsticks, which she usually forgot to take out before bed, had come loose during sleep and fell out, clattering down the stairs. She paid them no mind as she dropped to her knees in front of the small woman to immediately begin looking for injuries.
Before she had a chance to become too frantic, Impa took Paya’s hands into her own and gave a toothy grin, wherein a gap on the top left added an endearing charm of age. “Be still, child. I’m fine. All of Hyrule will be fine. Our Hero has done it!” She squeezed Paya’s hands in excitement. “Sir Link and Princess Zelda have rid us of The Calamity!”
Paya gasped. She began thinking of so many things at once. Is Link ok? Is the Princess ok? Did her fervent devotion help them even in some small way? How can she help now? “But Grandma, does this mean-?”
“Yes, dear. I think they’re coming.”
“Eeeee,” Paya jumped up suddenly, “I have to clean my room!” She rushed back upstairs and then turned around and came back down to grab her chopsticks. Then she scurried up the stairs again. Impa chuckled as she heard furniture moving and things being tossed around. It was amusing because Paya’s room was already spotless; but yes, a place would need to be made for Zelda. And she would be welcome to stay as long as she’d like.
Impa made her way slowly down the stairs now and back to her pillows. At long last, she thought. Today was certainly no longer mundane. Ah, yes, the oil. “Paya!” She barked as she settled onto the top cushion, “When you’re done up there, one of the lamps needs a refill!” Can’t have the place looking anything but perfect for the Princess.
“Yes, Grandma!” Came the muffled reply.
Impa looked over at the painting on the wall again and thought back to a time when this future was still uncertain.
Link had just returned to her after visiting the place detailed in the frame. He seemed very unsettled and wasn’t his usual self. Or, at least, he was unlike his new self. He was actually emulating his old self quite a bit. Stoic, measured, and a bit guarded. Zelda was right. It would have been too hard for him to remember so much all at once. He now reminded her of how Zelda had been the night she left to face Ganon on her own, trying to be so brave.
“You’re troubled by what you’ve remembered.” She peered at him from her perch in a way that made him feel like she could tell what he was thinking. “You haven’t lost your courage though. So what’s weighing on your mind?”
Link sat on his knees before her on one of the blue mats, free of his gear which he had left leaning by the door. He carefully considered his answer. Looking down at his blue Champion’s tunic, he let out a soft, ironic sniff at how it was the very same he’d worn that terrible night. The night he almost died. It must have either been remade entirely, or so lovingly repaired, that it did not show any of the damage it had once sustained.
His eyes moved over the painting on the wall and he marveled at how a decoration, which before today was so unassuming and almost lost to the background, could now stir so many emotions from one glance. The Guardians in the frame, which were now still and decaying, had been there in the marsh, glowing magenta under Ganon’s control. Hunting them.
As he remembered, he was surprised at the sense of fear that it brought back. In the past few months he had become proficient in fighting all types of Guardians, especially with the ancient weapons that Robbie had since created. But experiencing that night again, hearing the sound of the gears turning, and the thumping of their spidery legs on the ground as they searched for anything and everything to destroy, that really unsettled him. Perhaps because he had failed.
The Chosen Hero had managed to defeat so many of the machines as he and Zelda fled south from the castle; a feat that no other warrior of Hyrule could accomplish. But they never stopped, never tired. They were relentless. And when he had nothing left to give but his very body as a shield, a golden light and a comforting warmth spread over him, and somehow he knew that he was finally free to relax, to let go. Zelda was holding him, and then there was darkness for a century, until her voice reached him, urging him to wake up.
He focused again on Impa, who, in her wisdom, was waiting patiently for his response. He thought the Princess now seemed familiar. But she also still felt like someone he did not know. “I’m just not sure what to do for her if I defeat Ganon.”
“When.” Impa corrected.
Link smirked, “Very well. When.” He couldn't seem to stop the smirk from turning into a genuine smile as he considered her faith in him. He appreciated the interjection of positive thought, even when it was delivered with a bit of sass.
There he is, Impa mused.
“As her sworn Knight Attendant,” she began, then squinted at him and added as an aside, “should you wish to still honor that oath?”
Link nodded his head forward slightly in agreement, so she continued, “Then it would be best to simply follow her wishes.” She paused a moment and, after considering other possible outcomes besides the ideal, mentioned, “Of course, should she be worse for wear, bring her to Kakariko and we will take care of her. At least here she will have someone who knows her if you have not regained your memories by then.”
Link stood and bowed respectfully before taking his leave. He knew that she had not meant the statement to be a slight, but it still stung. Not remembering his past made him feel like he was failing all over again.
Slender Brothers Headcanons
#1. Mating Season
WARNINGS: Heavy content here. Slender’s and Offender’s of course talk about rape. Very violent and graphic rape and mention of necrophilia in Offender’s. Trender’s talks about prostitution? But not in a dark way, really. Splender’s describes some pain- for him. Pain for him. Its unfortunate ): The ‘If he had an S/O’ parts are pretty safe though
Notes:
Heed the warnings. If you don't, then I take no responsibility.
Or... maybe these aren't as graphic as I think and I’m just a baby? Dunno, better safe then sorry though!!!
If you are interested in this stuff, then enjoy! ^^ XD
Tumblr media
Slenderman:
You thought he hid away before… but, man. During this time, no one knows where he is.
In truth, he’s hauled away in a bunker that he set up himself and upkeeps every year, all alone (For his benefit, because he haaaaates, hates, hates being out of control. Not for everyone else’s benefit, I want to make that clear.) and if it wasn’t for the constant, unattended, unquenched heat overwhelming him then he would be in total peace. I mean, here he’s underground (In the earth. His favourite thing) and he’s alone (This favourite thing ties with the earth).
That bunker ends up in teeerible shape after he’s been in there. He loses most of his control, and because his needs aren’t extinguished, he gets violent. He has a lot of pent up tension in every orifice and periodically he snaps. At the walls, at the chairs, at anything that’s a satisfying weight to throw, or break, or crush.
He never leaves the bunker though without repairing and replacing shit though so that when he comes back the next year, he doesn’t feel even worse.
Now, if Slender didn’t hide himself away… Look, Slender is not a good being. He controls himself because he genuinely enjoys controlling things and the most important thing to do is control yourself. But at this time, if he really actually tried, he would have like 0.10 percent control.
And… he wouldn’t feel any reservations about taking a mortal and using them to help himself, raping them. He would feel disgusted with himself later on, for sure, but that’s only because he lost his control. Not because of what he did to the mortal.
I think the only reason he doesn’t normally do this, is not because he’s in any way better, morally, then Offender. It’s because he generally doesn’t feel sexual desire that often. And when he does, he ignores it. He isn’t interested, like Offender is. So, don’t get it twisted, Slender is a selfish and rotten.
If he had an S/O:
If there is even the smallest chance that you won’t find out, he will take it.
Of course, that would be pretty hard to do seeing as the damn thing can last for up to a week (Although that is still very lucky, seeing as cats and dogs last a month or longer. I’ve decided the Slender’s are more like birds XD) and you will be puzzled when your cranky, hermit Slenderman disappears from his beloved home for that long.
Even after its over and he’s back, and you know something out of the ordinary happened, he still won’t tell you. Just very bluntly, so you know he knows you know somethings up but you also know he isn’t about to tell you, says “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”. The ass will even say “I was here the whole time Y/N, for goodness sakes. You must have missed me.”.
HOW?
I beg to differ, Slendy.
Eventually one of the other brothers will tell you, and get a prompt smack from a stray black tentacle when he finds out. “Oh, my bad. Spasm.” He’ll say, totally deadpanned.
Now, if you decide you don’t want anything to do with it and to respect his decision to keep it from you, he’s happy to go on like normal with you. Whenever the season comes around, he’ll just tell you he’ll be away for a bit for his mating season. No drama! And no more secrets!
On the other hand, if you wanted to help…
Well, he would describe to you everything he feels during his mating season and exactly how strong these urges are, to scare you off. And e tells no lie, and it does sound terrifying.
But if you still want to after that, then fine. Next mating season, he concedes a test run. But he enlists Zalgo to stand by for a bit and if he hears non-pleasure noises, then to come in and take you away.
Slender’s a big fan of informed consent where you’re concerned.
Trenderman:
Trender does a lot of meditation and drinks a lot of calming herbal remedies at this time… and, also, jerks off a lot and is out picking up partners every night for wild one-night stands. He deals with it pretty healthily, actually, compared to the others! Haha
As song as he’s satisfied, everyone who is prospectively around him, will be safe. That’s his thinking, and it’s true.
Also, why treat the feeling like it’s a curse? It is an issue, but if you act like Frollo then you’ll just make it worse for yourself and more importantly, for everyone else.
He will even hire prostitutes if he has no luck picking anyone up himself. Don’t worry, he’s very good to them, and pays them well (Boy makes it a habit to even send them off with breakfast, or at least breakfast money if they don’t feel comfortable spending more time with him then what was professional). Like, from the prostitute’s point of view, he is the best customer. Favourite customer. Love him.
He doesn’t do any work with anyone, during this time. Just stays in at home all day meditating, drinking his tea’s and working on designs and outfits from the safety of his house (He does some of his best work during this time- they’ve been described as ‘Seductive’). If he absolutely has to contact someone, he will text them. Even the sound of someone’s voice might set him off, so he really avoids anything like phone calls and delivery people- he has his groceries dropped off at his front door while he’s out at night.
He wears headphones most of the time (Noise cancelling or music), blocking out anything possible from the outside world, and keeps the blinds closed and windows and doors locked.
If he had an S/O:
If you’re willing to help him out during the season, he’s jazzed. I mean, he was hoping you would XD
Let me tell you, you can satisfy him way quicker than anyone else that he could pick up or hire, so its not really an issue if you want to help him. You will be pretty tired after a night so I’d prescribe you maybe every second night if you’re up to it?? But you won’t be fatally tired or anything like Splender XD And you definitely wont be hurt, because honestly it doesn’t take much from you to finish him, because it’s you!
Theirs no poetic reason. It’s just, simply, because it’s you.
Kinks that he doesn’t mention before this suddenly come out to play… You will learn some new things about yourself, that’s for sure.
Offenderman (I’m saying it again because it’s very necessary. WARNING. Please read with caution):
This is… not an issue for him…
In fact, it affects him much, much less than the others. Offender is always horny, anyway. Its literally in his nature. So, he’s used to living with it.
His temperament does lose its bearings for the duration, though, which makes him even more dangerous then usual. Most of the time he doesn’t even play with his victims at all (Doesn’t tease or go even a modicum slower. Doesn’t care to look into their eyes to see the fear- which tends to be a big part of what he does. He gets off of their terror. But at this time he just seems mad, sloppy and impatient), just rapes them in an the back of an alleyway and leaves their corpses when he’s not getting anything out of it anymore, looking for a new one.
Usually, when it’s not mating season he’ll usually leave them alive, specifically so they have to deal with the trauma, but now the force he uses… breaks them. The force of his hips breaks their bones, the way he bites their neck leaves a gaping, jagged hole that blood escapes out of, he suffocates them to death or crushes their windpipe. Long before he’s done, they’re a corpse. Not that that bothers him. At all. As long as they’re tight, he can work with it.
Also, something about them being dead turns him on also, so…
The body count at night means that he’s fine during the day, except for a normal, gentle buzz of thirst but he can handle that just fine. It’s more like normal.
If it wasn’t for his general lack of care for mortal (Or any other) lives and cruelty he would be able to manage this season like any other time of the year. No one would get hurt and no one would realise he’s any different.
But, this is Offenderman.
If he had an S/O:
Offender is so much more in control. Like, literally, he can date you and have a normal life and everything. He doesn’t want to scare you away or, very much less, hurt you. If he can get away with it, he wont even mention a mating season.
But, if you were happy to help him out (Which, I realise now, may be hard for some of us to imagine after reading what I just wrote about him not 4 dot points ago… ), then he would lose his ever loving mind.
But not in a bad way like before was. Less violent and more… submissive. I guess. He’s still him, and he thinks he’s head honcho and everything (Second only to Slender) but he has absolutely zero issues with bottoming- theirs plenty of pleasure to source from that position.
Your touch and your warm, wet pinkness feel’s 10 times better to him (And he already loved it with his whole, black heart) in this condition. He’ll mule.
Splenderman:
This is ESPECIALLY hard for Splender. He feels everything 10 times stronger than any of his brothers, which is saying a lot because they’re all very passionate about their shit.
But Splender is the most so. (*Cough* Its because I like to believe kindness is a stronger urge then hatred, personal interest or even lust. This is also the reason I headcanon Splender as the oldest).
One year, soon after he reached adulthood and mating season actually kicked in, (The first time shocked him. He had no one to tell him this was about to happen, and it stole the wind from him. He nearly hurt someone when he tried to ignore it, which explains why this that I’m about to explain about, which is the second time, turned out so badly),he tried to haul himself away and do nothing. Not touch himself, not see anyone for help, not do anything.
It caused him to cease up completely. He was just sitting there for a full day, thinking about nothing but his physical need and his pain. First his cock went painfully stiff, then the rest of him, and when he finally tried to move it was agonising.
Ever since then he’s careful not to do that. For a long time he subscribed to Slender’s method of hiding and locking himself away until it’s over.
But, it was not until Trender became an adult and started dealing with his mating seasons that Splender’s eyes were opened up to a much safer and healthier management strategy.
Instead of fighting the season, just accept it. Take care of yourself Splendy, we worry for you.
Nowadays he spends most of his time treating his body the bets he can, in a remote area in some mountains in Switzerland. Beautiful nature to revitalise him, spring weather, clean fresh air… no one around for miles and miles to hear what he’s up to… Haha. Its half an half. Half of the time he spends eating healthily and relaxing in fields and rocky mountain areas, and the other half he masturbates.
A lot of the time actually he’s doing both at the same time. Jacking off outside in the fresh air.
If he had an S/O:
He’s surprised to hear that his mortal mate likes the idea of being… uh… used, essentially. For his personal gain.
“You think that’s okay, Y/N??”? He’s a bit sceptical.
“Yeah, Splender, as long as its you! I don’t mind helping- plus its kinda hot.”
Well, if you’re sure! Splender doesn’t try to tell you that you don’t know what you’re talking about or that you don’t know what you like in anyway.
He’s kind of excited now XD
He’s going to come up with a plan though to separate the two of you at some point so you can rest and revitalise because while he understands that you’re consenting to a lot and are genuinely interested, he also knows that during this time he can go for a looooot longer then you can, and he refuses to break you. “You can come back if you want once you’re not so tired!” He assures you, when you whine and say you can ‘handle it’.
ALL SLENDER’s:
Final thing.
Imagine having a vagina and being on your period at the same time that he’s enduring his mating season.
Wow! An imagines blog for afterlife! First one as far as I can see... I wish you lots of fun with this! I wonder what your favourite characters from the game are? For me it's going to be Sian and Quincy (I first think I was going to hate this little devil brat but here I am XD). If you don't mind you can do relationship hc's with them and characters of your choice if you don't mind. I don't really have anything specific in mind, just something fluffy, sorry for that! Welcome and have a nice day!
(Is it really the first? Whoa! My favorites so far would have to be Ell and Verine! There’s something refreshing about Ell’s optimistic energy, and Verine seems so soft uwu But Sian and Quincy are also growing on me too. Either way, you’ve got good taste~ Please enjoy these hcs and thank you for being the first request, anon! :D)
Relationship HCs (Sian, Quincy, Ell, and Verine)
🎤 Sian 🎤
He refuses to admit to his feelings in the beginning. Why, you may ask? Simple: It’s embarrassing.
So he does what any normal tsundere would do in that sort of situation. He pushes you away by feigning his disinterest.
Naturally, his behavior comes off as rude and abrupt, but you’re able to see past that cold exterior.
Whenever you send a smile his way or compliment him for his good work, he’s quick to deny it. Though the bright blush on his cheeks always contradicts whatever he might say.
Sometimes he thinks you just enjoy messing with him, if only to see him turn red. It’s quite cute, and you can’t help but giggle when he starts to yell.
“It’s not adorable, so stop laughing! And don’t call me cute either!”
Once you’re together, Sian drops his rude act and becomes very affectionate. He still gets shy over small aspects of your relationship, such as holding hands in public or even mustering the courage to kiss you whenever he feels like it.
Kati will definitely tease Sian whenever he talks about his wonderful, loving manager, and Cyrille will provide him with all sorts of scientific facts about the prospect of being in love, how long it exactly lasts, and why relationships are so important in terms of social interaction.
Sian does his best to ignore them, but he always finds himself getting embarrassed. “Stay out of my personal life! I don’t need your help!” Yes, he’s also blushing while he says this.
Underneath that tsundere behavior is a sweet boy who does his best to give you a perfect relationship.
He’ll take you to his favorite places to eat, claiming that you have to try some of the foods he normally gets. In return, you’ll open his horizons to the things you enjoy eating.
Definitely goes to karaoke with you! The two of you sing to your hearts’ content, sharing a few laughs at the impossible-to-hit high notes. Sian manages to surprise you the first time you hear him sing, and when you make a comment he gets extremely flustered.
On days where the weather isn’t the best, the two of you might stay inside to play card games, making small bets every now and then. Most of these bets are about the number of kisses or hugs the other will receive, and when that’s on the line Sian plays exceptionally better.
He’s written songs before, and now that the two of you are in a relationship some of these are about you. You wouldn’t have known about this had you not found a journal detailing different lyrics and song titles.
Waiting for a Sian x [insert utaite name here] collaboration.
When you confronted Sian about it, he became a mess.
Sian’s never let anyone see any of his creative work before, so this was enough to bring him close to tearing up out of pure embarrassment. He feels as though he could just die on the spot.
You understand his reaction, so you’re quick to close the journal, assuring him that you won’t pry further unless he willingly tells you more.
It takes a bit before he’s confident to actually show you and explain his thought process behind certain lyrics, but he trusts you enough and he knows you won’t laugh at him.
You’re his biggest muse when it comes to songwriting. (You’re also his biggest supporter.)
You’ll catch him humming under his breath to certain songs, and he’ll even start to mumble lyrics he’s made up on the spot. You’ll chime in with your own input, and he’ll be quick to write it down if it strikes a chord in his inspiration.
Unfortunately, his memory isn’t the best, so he often forgets things like anniversaries and special dates. He’ll always apologize with his head bowed whenever this happens, but you never seem too bothered. How can you be upset with someone as affectionate and caring as him?
In times of need, he’ll be there to assist you, as he doesn’t want you to stress yourself out. After all, it isn’t fair for his precious lover to carry overwhelming burdens all on their own.
You’ll always find yourself waking up beside the best boyfriend in the world, who will do absolutely anything for you. At the start of the relationship, he tried to do so many things to impress you. He cooked, cleaned, and made sure to always message you when you’re apart. Eventually, you had to tell him to just be himself and to stop taking advice from relationship blogs.
Please give this boy all the love in the world, and he’ll return it tenfold—albeit with a flustered stutter and pink cheeks.
🔥 Quincy 🔥
As the future Lord of the Underworld, Quincy’s quick to let others know of his position as a devil. Bow before him because it’s either his way or the highway.
He has high hopes for you and even higher hopes for himself.
Quincy will be especially impressed if you’re forward and confident in the relationship, but if you’re not that’s fine. It just means he’ll have to take the lead, which is obviously the best course of action, right? His judgement is flawless!
Just know that if anyone messes with his beloved manager, he’ll have no problem putting a curse on the unfortunate soul who decided to bother you. It’s all in good fun, so don’t worry about those silly humans who are now suffering under the weight of a heavy enchantment.
“Looks like my finger slipped. Guess you’ll have to use your puny brain to figure a way out of that. Hmph!” (Based on that cocky smirk, you’d say he’s quite satisfied with his work.)
He may even teach you a few things about the different types of magic, as he wants you to be as good as he is. Oh, but not too good! Quincy prides himself on his skills far too much to let anyone surpass him.
Every now and then, he’ll tease you about anything and everything—no matter how insignificant it is. Maybe you were late to clock in and Nyang Lead Manager scolded you, or perhaps you accidentally forget your lunch. Either way, he’s going to poke fun at those mishaps.
“Ehh? How could you forget when I reminded you earlier? Well, I suppose you can have some of my lunch. ...If you can handle it, that is.”
Spicy food is his life. He probably participates in those challenges at restaurants just to prove that he can absolutely own the competition.
Petition to get Quincy on Hot Ones.
If you’re also a fan of spicy things, it’ll be a contest to see who can handle the most spice. He ends up winning most of the time, but that’s mainly just because he’s a devil who’s used to scorching heat.
If you aren’t, he’ll be pleased to hold the title as someone who can handle extreme foods really well.
Quincy doesn’t like wasting his time on anything small, so there will always be a purpose behind what he does.
Your dates are quite the colorful variety, ranging from spending the day mixing up new elixirs to sharing stories about the Underworld. One day he’d like to show you around if you’re up for it, but the scenery might take some getting used to.
He’ll ensure that you’re never bored by dragging you around to do whatever the two of you deem exciting. When you get to relax from purifying vengeful spirits, you might find yourselves in the human world disguised under the deceptive properties of Humanizer to visit amusement parks, food vendors, and even occult shops.
The relationship is upbeat, and it keeps you on your toes. You’re never going to feel bored again with Quincy around.
Despite his teasing remarks and overflowing pride, Quincy values you a lot, and when it’s just the two of you he’ll be very endearing. It tends to catch you off guard; one minute he’s laughing about messing with Sian and the next he’s moving in to steal a quick kiss.
You’ll have to deal with any reptiles or insects that happen to cross his path, as he can’t stand them. But if you can’t handle them either, then you’ll seek out Jamie. At least he can keep them safe from Kirr and Aitachi. And from your spooked boyfriend, who wants those critters out of his sight.
Quincy will remind you to come to him if you’re ever worried over something. His advice may not be the most ground-breaking, but it’s the thought that counts. He’s willing to spend hours giving you a friendly pep-talk, and you’re bound to come out of your gloom with a fresh perspective.
☀️ Ell ☀️
He’s a ball of energetic sunshine, so be ready for a very fun, joyful relationship!
Ell always puts you first, ensuring your happiness and well-being.
Honesty is key in this relationship, and that’s mainly because he can’t lie due to his constant sneezing.
And that’s okay because he has nothing to lie about anyways! He doesn’t want to hide anything from you; he’d rather you know than try to keep it a secret.
Imagine all of the cute dates! The both of you could go to bakeries and and sweet shops to try all sorts of delicious treats. Ell would be fond of anything sugary, insisting on playfully feeding you while you’re out in public. Or the two of you could visit craft stores so he can get more supplies for his needle felting.
He’s very big on PDA. Expect lots of hand-holding, random hugs, and kisses on the cheek—even around others when you least expect it. He’ll always smile at you, commenting on how charming you look when you blush at his sudden displays of affection.
Though he’ll try his best to tone it down if Nyang Lead Manager says something about it during work hours. He’ll quietly whine and protest as he tries to explain that it’s hard to resist. He just loves you so much! His complaints tend to get cut off once he starts to sneeze, though.
Along with gifting you his needle felting creations, he’ll also play the lyre for you. He’d be so excited to show you all of the beautiful music it can make. Sometimes he’ll play a few soothing melodies if you have trouble falling asleep.
Speaking of sleep, he adores cuddling. You’ll probably wake up each morning with him clinging to you, the blanket cast aside.
If you’re fond of taking photos, he’ll let you use the light from his halo to brighten the pictures. It makes for a perfect ring light, and he doesn’t mind others wanting to use it. After all, Licht and Kati like to use it for their SNS, so you should too.
If you’re ever having a bad day, Ell will be there to make it better. He’ll do all sorts of things for you, hearing you out when you vent to him about what’s bothering you and even attempting to make a few tiny miracles happen. Anything for his favorite person in the world!
There are times when he feels down as well, but it’s not for long. You’ll always be there to cheer him up. He’s fortunate that you have the patience to help him put his negative emotions into words, and you’ll even sit through all of the times he sneezes. For that, he’s very grateful.
His heart beats faster and he gets bashful when you praise him, but he’ll always fire back with plenty of genuine compliments so you won’t feel left out. There’s lots of love to go around.
Overall, the relationship is so sweet and enjoyable. Ell makes sure there’s never a dull moment when you’re with him, and he truly believes that the two of you will be together for a long time.
He loves you with all of his angelic heart.
“I wish we could spend more time together, but Nyang Lead Manager is giving us so much work. It’s really not—achoo!”
💊 Verine 💊
At first, Verine wonders if the reason you chose to be near him is because of the desire to protect such a sickly Soul Reaper. It bothers him to no end, as he does his best to stay strong despite always having to take different medicines and vitamins.
Once he realizes that you’re not there to pester him about his health, he’s pleasantly surprised. He’s used to others giving him looks of pity, so when you offer your support he can’t help but feel warm inside.
It actually takes him quite a while to confess; the stress of it all was like attempting to find the correct medicine for a specific ailment.
Still, he manages to push his self-consciousness aside in favor of his heart’s wishes, and it succeeds! Luckily for him, since Verine believed his chances were very slim.
While Mori considers him to be a paper doll, you think the opposite. Your boyfriend may be physically weak, but he’s got a strong will and is incredibly gentle with you.
Even if he acts like the presences of others disturbs him, he’s actually quite happy to be near the Soul Reapers. He’s always interacting with the Reapers in Diluculo, but he finds that your company is by far the best.
Most of your dates consist of staying indoors, since Verine doesn’t like the overwhelming temperatures of the outside world. (Occasionally, he’ll sacrifice his comfort so that you can enjoy the outdoors every now and then.)
However, the two of you still find plenty of things to do while inside. From watching your favorite films to assisting Verine with his medicinal herb garden, a lot of these cozy dates are quite serene.
He loves it when you cook his favorite foods. Any meal prepared by your loving hands is a gift he treasures—so much so that he thoroughly believes it’ll heal his aches and pains. Sometimes he doesn’t know how to return the gesture, so you’ll have to reassure him that you don’t need anything. Just his love is enough, and that makes him smile a bit.
Verine is touch-starved since most of his living life was spent in a hospital bed and the only contact he ever received was from doctors checking his vitals. So he’s always eager to let you hug and kiss him.
He might not be into cuddling at first only because he’s afraid his constant coughing will disrupt the calm atmosphere, but once you explain that that doesn’t bother you he’s willing to give it a try. He ends up liking it more than he thought he would, which results in lazy days where the two of you just nap in each other’s arms.
He’ll always be there for you no matter what, and he checks to make sure you’re healthy. Your physical and mental health is very important to him.
If the the two of you ever get into a disagreement, he may bottle up his true feelings for the sake of pacifying you. In the end, both of you talk through it, and this allows Verine to slowly but surely open up about how he really feels.
Verine might keep a lot of his emotions to himself when around the others, but with you he doesn’t have to.
“Ah, I must’ve fainted again. I really am useless.”
When he gets like that, just tell this sweetheart he’s in no way useless. He’s perfect in your eyes, even with his coughing and eternal illnesses, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am here to break the door up and request NSFW alphabet for Toshinori ♡
One lanky hero coming right up!
N/SFW Alphabet || Toshinori Yagi
Tumblr media
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
He really tries his best to take care of you after but due to his injury, he can only do so much. He is pretty exhausted, but that won’t stop him from cleaning you up as much as he possibly can.
He also lives for pillow talk. He will hold you close to him and let his hands caress your body softly, talking about whatever comes to his mind.
If it really took a lot out of him, you may be the one who has to take care of him. Get him some water, make sure his body isn’t hurting, If you want to make him feel shy and loved, hold him. Be the big spoon or let him fall asleep on your chest. He will be a shy yet sweet mess.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
He is pretty insecure since he isn’t as big and muscular as he used to be, but he loves his hands. They’re large and he loves to tease you by comparing hand sizes. Not only that, he loves how his hands can bring you comfort simply by holding your hand tight. It makes him still feel like a hero even if it isn’t a large action.
His favorite thing about you would have to be your legs. He just love how beautiful they are, and he loves to trace the shape of them with his eyes. When you both are alone, he will often pull your legs over his lap and rub them. It’s not really a sexual thing, but more a basic admiration for your body.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
He is so bashful about his cum honestly. He doesn’t like making a mess with it, but he will pull out and cum on your thighs if you don’t want him cumming inside. He also seems to lean on the heavy producer side of things.
He will never expect you to swallow his cum and will never give you a facial. It would embarrass him so much. Not saying he would turn down a blowjob, but god he understands if you don’t want to swallow.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
He is a switch so he wouldn’t be opposed to you taking the lead now and then. Especially with how weak his own body is, he feels a bit guilty that he can’t please you as well as someone else may be able to.
Also wouldn’t mind doing some hero roleplay, being the civilian or the hero. Sure, he may not be able to hold his hero form for longer than a few minutes, but could see himself being able to work that in as well. He will never say that out loud though.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
He knows the basics honestly, but he never really had a stable sexual relationship since being the symbol of peace really took a toll on any relationships he could have. Also since his injury, his confidence had went down a TON so he is really bashful about sex in general.
That being said, he is a pretty good lover. A little rusty, but he is a quick learner and will quickly be able to please you.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Really likes anything that doesn’t force himself to push his body. You riding him is always a safe bet since he can focus more on pleasuring you instead of coughing up blood.
Sometimes though, he enjoys missionary since he can hold you close. Yeah, it requires for him to do a LOT more of the work, but he loves how close he can be to you. If he had to pick between the two, he prefers this one but he just hates how much work it is and how his body can’t handle it.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? Are they humorous? etc.)
God he can’t help but be a little goofy. It is sex with All Might after all. Now he doesn’t go out of his way to be humorous, but it just kind of happens. If something happens, Toshi will just laugh it off and will brush off any embarrassment as long as you are laughing too.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? Does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
He’s pretty groomed just cause he is uncomfortable and it is maybe a shade darker than the hair on his head. He’s bashful about it though.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
Oh my gosh he loves being intimacy. He will go out of his way to show that he loves you even if he is a little cheesy about it. He might light candles or give you roses, but he means well. He also praises like none other and will make sure you know that he adores you.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
Only does it if he doesn’t have access to a cold shower or you. He feels like it’s something shameful and will do it as quickly as possible in order to fix his problem.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
Praise Kink: If you praise this man, he might just cry. He seriously loves being praised so much and it really makes him feel good knowing he can please you.
Hair pulling: He really never knew how much he enjoyed having his hair tugged on but once he knew, He may ask you to. It’s also a good way to get him to be a bit more vocal because he may accidentally moan. He will blush so dark when he realizes it though.
Marking: Scratch his back or leave hickeys on him. He never knew how much he would love seeing his shoulders or collarbone covered in love bites. His only request is PLEASE make it to where he can hide them. He would die if his students found out.
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
He is kind of old fashioned, but he like sex in bed. He just likes how comfortable it can be, and he doesn’t have to worry too much about getting hurt. Also as stated before, he loves to cuddle after so cuddling in the bed is his favorite
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
Playing into that ideal domestic life can really get him going. Since he spent so much time playing hero, he never imagined that there would be somebody at home cooking dinner for him, or cleaning in his clothes. It makes him feel whole and as if he was the luckiest man alive.
Speaking of wearing his clothes...Wear them as much as you can. His clothes are often big and baggy on his 7’2 ass, so imagine how big they would be on you? Your shoulder will most likely be peaking out of the collar as you cook and hey! You would most likely be able to get away with not wearing anything underneath.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
I think it is pretty obvious that painplay aint his thing, but he struggles with really any extreme kinks. Bondage aint his thing, completely forget gun or knifeplay cause no way in HELL would he be okay with that, choking is a no. Really he is a pretty vanilla guy so please understand that he will try, but it will show quickly if he is uncomfortable.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Let him give. Seriously. Since he sometimes struggles with proper sex, he will often try to please you as well as he can with foreplay or oral. Because of this, he is pretty damn skilled. The first few times, it was messy but he is a quick learner.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
He is very gentle, slow, and loving. Since his body can only handle so much, he has to pace himself. If he pushes too hard or tries going too fast, that might result in him hurting himself.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
Personally not that big of a fan of them just because he enjoys taking his time with you, but he does have a habit of trying when he knows he shouldn’t. Only 10 minutes before you have to leave? He will insist if you are needy, but he also is very aware of the fact he will most likely hurt himself.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? Do they take risks? etc.)
He is pretty open to trying new things as long as it doesn’t require him to hurt you or require himself getting hurt. He likes trying new things, and trusts you a lot so why should he worry about something you suggest. Yes, this has resulted in him figuring out that he doesn’t like
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
Really can only go one round and can go for about as long as he needs to in order to make you cum. He gets tired so easily and sex really takes a lot out of him so if you aren’t satisfied, he would most likely use toys til you’re content.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
He didn’t own any toys before he got in a relationship with you. He wasn’t very sexually active, so why would he need any toys?
After getting with you, he gets quite the collection. A mix of things he wanted to use on you and things you could use on him.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
He really loves teasing. Working you up with his fingers and his mouth is his favorite thing to do. On the other hand, he can’t handle being teased. He will whine and complain the majority of the time til he gets his way.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
He isn’t as loud as some, but he isn’t silent either. Giggly sex happens, and an occasional snort will come from him when he is laughing. As already stated, he lives for praise and praising so he is constantly telling you how attractive you are. Other than that, he does tend to moan and grunt a bit, but not too loud (Unless you pull his hair, then he will moan and get bashful about it)
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
He is a switch and when he is a top, he really is a service top. He can’t tame brats to save his life either, but when he is a sub...He can be one of the brattiest people you will ever meet. He will try to challenge you, but he really loves when you put him in his place and remind him who is in control.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
He is definitely on the bigger side, around 7-8 inches and is a bit thicker too. The first time he is with you, he actually is a bit worried that he might hurt you since he might have had an incident or two in the past about him being “Too big”
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
It’s really not that high, but he will please you as much as he can and as often as you want to. He may ask for sex every other week when your relationship is going steady, but if you get in the mood then he is ready to help.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Sex seems to give him a small boost of energy so expect him to be up for a while. He will try to take care of you the best he can and will hold you for a bit while chatting. He usually will fall asleep after you too just to make sure that you are safe and content.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH MY CHARACTER?
Suu
1. a trait they have too much of  (ex. too much pride = arrogance)
Suu is carefree to a point of foolishness. He’s never had it in him to care much about anything or anyone— at least, nowhere near to the extent that he should. Omen’ is the only being Suu has ever had genuine feelings for. Everything else has been of little consequence to his empty head. The world is filled with things that have no direct consequence on him, and so long as he won’t be affected by them, Suu simply doesn’t bother to pay attention. In some ways, this makes him a very free, happy person. He doesn’t have worries or anxiety about anything, and that means he’s able to live a life without the fears and obligations that weigh on most people’s minds. The problem is that Suu takes this carefree nature to a point where he actively overlooks things that can and will hurt him or the people around him.
2. a trait they don’t have enough of (ex. too little pride = insecurity)
Simply put, Suu is not smart. And he doesn’t bother to try to be otherwise. The only thoughts in his head have to do with entertainment and his next meal. Unless something is going to become a direct problem for him, he’ll rarely bother with it. He lacks self-preservation to a dangerous degree, assuming that he’ll be fine no matter what happens or what snap decisions he makes. He’s scatterbrained, spacey, and actively doesn’t pay attention to the things around him, instead choosing to focus on only whatever satisfied him in the moment. Suu’s knowledge of the world is also worryingly slim— he’s never paid attention to things outside of his island and direct life, so he knows virtually nothing about society, other beings, and any outside factors. On top of all of that, his social intelligence is virtually zero, and he doesn’t care a bit to try to learn how to interact with others.
3. a trait they express in the wrong way
Debatably one of the most positive traits Suu has is his care for his closest friend, Omen’. Suu and Omen’ have a long history of time spent together, and in whatever way his dumb fish brain can, Suu has gotten attached. He genuinely considers Omen’ someone he wants to be around, and he cares in a way that most would consider impossible for him. However, Suu doesn’t exactly show this care in the best way. He has a bad habit of trying to keep Omen’ all to himself, such as through eating visitors to their island that Omen’ would have wanted to talk to. He also tends to rely on Omen’ too much and in inconsiderate ways. The way Suu sees it, his friend will always want to look after him, so he puts the burden of his own stupidity on Omen’s shoulders quite often. Omen’ is aware that Suu cares quite a bit (more than he does for anyone else), and he does return those feelings... but he also gets quite frustrated with Suu sometimes.
4. a trait they’re ashamed of
The problem with asking for something Suu is ashamed of is that he doesn’t feel much along the lines of shame at all. In terms of his own behavior, there’s nothing that Suu is embarrassed about. He does everything right, doesn’t he? From his perspective, he’s just doing what he wants and it’s everyone else who’s being too picky. Even when scolded or when people get angry with him, Suu is basically impervious to feeling any kind of remorse. In a lot of ways, this makes for another negative trait in that it’s extremely difficult to make him realize he’s ever done anything wrong. He’s just a fish, yeah? And fish don’t need to worry about complicated things. All he has to do is eat swimmers and have fun— being ashamed of anything, even parts of himself, goes well beyond the job description of what he is.
5. a trait they’re not ashamed of (but maybe should be)
Answered here!
6. a bad habit
One of Suu’s worst habits is making decisions without thinking them through. Of course, Suu rarely thinks anything through, so this is far from a rare problem. Even with major choices or ones with high stakes, he’s a bit too likely to “go with his gut” or pick whatever sounds best without really considering the consequences. It’s never worth stopping and thoroughly thinking about what he’s doing. Even if there’s a problem later, he can handle it, right? Omen’ has tried to work Suu out of this habit countless times, to little success. Suu also has the habit of making his choices other people’s problem. If he doesn’t like the result he gets from a decision, he’ll try to dodge out of the consequences and make someone else (usually Omen’) deal with them. He’s not a fan of follow-through.
7. something they do that hurts themself
While Suu himself seems impervious to the harm it causes, he does have an unfortunate tendency to isolate himself through a lack of interest in the people and things around him. He has so little care for others that it’s virtually impossible for him to form connections— the only reason he’s so close to Omen’ is that the two of them spent so much time together with only each other as options. Generally, Suu doesn’t try to bond with anyone. He’s content keeping distant relationships and intimidating the people around him to whatever degree is funny, never forming actual friendships. Not many people like Suu, and there are good reasons for that. He appears to be entirely uninterested in anything to do with the feelings of others, their interests, and their wellbeing. And this does hurt him. Whether he realizes it or not, Suu is almost entirely alone. If something were to happen to Omen’, he’d have no one and nothing. It’s never occurred to him how bad-off he’d be if that happened, but the danger is there.
8. something they do that hurts others
When it comes to his interactions with others, Suu’s utter lack of sympathy and empathy poses a massive problem. No one likes a person who seems completely uninterested in them and any problems they may have... and that’s exactly what Suu does. He’s amused, at best, by the things that other people do and go through, and most often, he simply doesn’t care. He doesn’t feel anything when people are suffering or upset, and feels no need to change his behavior to suit their feelings. He can be cruel, flippant, insensitive, and inappropriate, and of course, he hardly cares. Suu doesn’t see why he should change his behavior to make other people happy, and he doesn’t see why other people need to like him. He has Omen’, and no one else matters much to him at all. He doesn’t need to bother with other things.
9. a reason (or excuse) they haven’t improved on any of the above
Suu’s main reason for not trying to change or improve himself is that he doesn’t need to. He’s a fish, y’know? Fish don’t need to think too hard or do normal people things. Even though he was drug up to the world of people, he doesn’t have to act like it. After all, it’s not like it was his choice. The way he’s always been was fine when he was on his island with Omen’, so there’s no need to be any different now. He’s gotten by the way he is for decades. On top of that, he honestly doesn’t care enough to try. Since Omen’, the only person he has any fondness for, doesn’t complain, Suu feels no need to bend to the whims of others. He’s more likely to laugh in the face of someone who tries to get him to behave better than take their words to heart in any way. It’s easier and simpler to just keep being the way he is, and really, when has Suu ever been the type to do anything complicated? As such, he never bothers to try to improve.
10. a way that they are improving on any of the above!
Honestly, he’s not improving on any of these traits in any notable way. As mentioned above, Suu doesn’t see any reason why he should change any part of himself, so even when people tell him he needs to work on something, he ignores them. As a simple fish, he doesn’t see any reason why he should try to be different. The only person who could get him to change anything would be Omen’, and even then, it would be pulling teeth to convince Suu that something he does is genuinely wrong. Suu takes Omen’s opinions more seriously than anyone else’s, but he still tends to blow off the things his friend says to him if he doesn’t like them, much to Omen’s eternal annoyance. Omen’ could talk him into changing eventually— it would just be extremely difficult.
Memories : Top 15 Films of 2020
Tumblr media
If 2020 taught movie fans anything, it was that we shouldn’t take things for granted.  On the dollars and cents side of things, movie theaters were already facing an uphill battle to stay sustainable, but the “shelter-in-place” practice of March and beyond decimated box office returns, with many theaters yet to reopen (if they will open at all).  In terms of famous names and faces, the list of those who passed away featured numerous icons : Kobe Bryant, Kirk Douglas, Max von Sydow, Honor Blackman, Carl Reiner, Ennio Morricone, John Saxon, Wilford Brimley, Chadwick Boseman, Sean Connery, Tiny Lister Jr., Adolfo ‘Shabba Doo’ Quinones and many more transitioned to the great beyond.  Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Shudder and a number of other streaming services saw themselves step into the forefront of the entertainment provider realm, with Warner Brothers and a handful of other studios making announcements that they will be following suit for at least 2021, if not for good.
With all of this uncertainty and chaos, however, the year 2020 was a surprisingly strong one, in my opinion, when it came to cinematic output... so much so, in fact, that aside from a number of Honorable Mentions, my list of top films was expanded to 15 in order to accommodate all of my choices.  For anyone who has checked out my lists from previous years, you will know that I did not see every film released this year, but I did make my best effort to cover as wide a range of films as possible.  Enjoy the list, and be sure to support film in whatever medium you are able to moving forward so that it can thrive.
Tumblr media
HONORABLE MENTIONS
The 40-Year-Old Version (dir. Radha Blank) A nice little personal film that spoke to my hip-hop sensibility, as well as that ever-present awareness of the inevitability of age, and how it can skew our perspective in regards to our achievements.
Ava (dir. Tate Taylor) This isn’t the action film that’s going to reinvent the wheel, but if you look at action films like wheels, this is a quality wheel.  Outside of Common, I couldn’t really find much to shoot down... this will definitely be one I consider the next time I have company and we’re looking for something fun to check out.
Bill & Ted Face The Music (dir. Dean Parisot) I honestly would have been satisfied with just two films in this franchise, but surprisingly, a third entry was created that didn’t ruin my overall enjoyment of the previous two films.  Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter jumped in without missing a beat, a healthy dose of familiar faces popped back up, and the new cast additions weren’t too jarring... it’s nice to know that a pair of my favorite childhood films are officially now part of a trilogy.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (dir. Jason Woliner) This was possibly the most surprising release of 2020... outside of a couple of news blips that Sacha Baron Cohen made during production, not a lot about this film was leaked prior to its release.  For such a dated character and a seemingly outdated style of humor, Borat once again exposed the simplest parts of society in an incredibly insightful (albeit cringey as all get-out) manner.
Guns Akimbo (dir. Jason Lei Howden) One of the most fun films of 2020.  Somewhere, the creative minds behind Nerve are wishing that they’d made this film instead.
Henrietta and Her Dismal Display of Affection (dir. Jeffrey Garcia) Jeffrey Garcia is the homie, and I’ve had the pleasure of being in a number of his short films, so when he announced his intentions to write and shoot a feature film in 2020, I was completely on-board.  Miraculously, he was able to film the movie while the world was being ravaged by COVID-19, and though I cannot publicly announce details yet, this film has definitely already met (and likely succeeded) his expectations.
The Midnight Sky (dir. George Clooney) With each film that George Clooney directs, I realize more and more than he is an old soul trapped in a body idolized by the new school of film.  That being said, it’s nice to know that there are directors out there willing to embrace patient, silent and contemplative moments while simultaneously withholding from force-feeding viewers exposition.
Tenet (dir. Christopher Nolan) This was possibly the most anticipated release of the year, considering it was the king of the IMAX release crowd in its pre-release promotion.  After a small delay due to COVID-19, it was one of the first films released in hopes of testing the movie-going waters during what was sure to be a diminished period of time, which probably hurt its numbers.  Too many, the film was confusing, and the nit-picking was fierce from the criticism contingency, but in all honesty, this was pretty impressive Nolan fare... certainly a good second movie in a Nolan double feature.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (dir. Aaron Sorkin) I cannot tell a lie... I was hugely impressed with how Sorkin managed to reel his personality and voice back in order to let this well-known, controversial moment in time present itself.  Sorkin has a tendency to be the star of his films, be it when he is in the writer or director role, but for this film, he managed to focus the best parts of his skillset into a highly respectful, educational and inspiring tale that fit the tumultuous summer we endured.
VHYes (dir. Jack Henry Robbins) I remember seeing this trailer as 2019 was coming to a close, and it was a film high on my list of desired viewing.  Then 2020 reared its ugly, stupid head and many releases disappeared into obscurity or found themselves delayed.  Luckily, this one slipped through the cracks and found a home in the streaming world, which in all honesty, suited its presentation very well.  One of the most delightfully weird films of the year, hands down.
Vivarium (dir. Lorcan Finnegan) Of all the films cut from my Top 15 list, this was the toughest cut to make.  I went into the film totally blind (with Jesse Eisenberg and my respect for his acting chops being the sole selling point), but this film really hit a lot of my buttons... it’s trippy as can be, there is a character that is freakishly unique and wholly unnerving, and the production design leaves a lasting impression.  Don’t let the Honorable Mention designation fool you... this one is a winner.
Wonder Woman 1984 (dir. Patty Jenkins) The Christmas gift that the masses collectively decided that they did not want.  Much like Ava, there is one glaring aspect of this film that I could have done without, but otherwise, I found this to be an enjoyable film.  Gal Gadot was made for this role, while Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal stepped up to the plate and impressed.  If you’re looking to be blown away, the Wonder Woman franchise isn’t the smartest place to go, but if you’re looking for entertainment, there’s plenty of it here.
Tumblr media
THE TOP 15 FILMS OF 2020
Tumblr media
15. Mignonnes (dir. Maïmouna Doucouré) This one started off the year with plenty of controversy.  What was an award-winning tale about womanhood and the difficulties surrounding coming of age in an ever-changing and evolving world quickly devolved into a campaign to ban the film (and Netflix).  Many people overlooked the film as a cautionary tale about what access to the Internet and the sexually-charged nature in which women are portrayed can do to developing girls, instead choosing to accuse the film of being fodder for malicious types seeking to exploit the sexualizing of young women.  More than anything, in my opinion, Mignonnes served as an example of our outrage-fueled culture and the way it tends to skew our perspective and/or our ability to take art at face value.
Tumblr media
14. His House (dir. Remi Weekes) As I’ve mentioned many times over the past week or so on this blog, horror films were one of the few genres that found a benefit from the film industry’s transition to streaming services for primary access to film.  While a number of traditional horror films received notice, His House took the opportunity to not only make a pure horror film, but one that spoke on racism and the conditions that asylum-seekers and refugees face.  The film is well-acted, the production value is high quality, and it’s paced beautifully... while not the highest film on this list, it is certainly one I will encourage others to see as time goes by.
Tumblr media
13. All Day and a Night (dir. Joe Robert Cole) When human nature reared its ugly head during COVID-19 in the form of numerous race-related killings, multitudes of businesses quickly adopted the Black Lives Matter mantra, with film distributors and streaming services taking advantage of the moment to produce and release content relevant to cultural and social awareness.  Netflix was no different, and of the many films they released in the wake of the harrowing events, All Day and a Night is the one that feels the most sincere and honest in its approach and presentation.  The streets of Oakland are presented with a vast array of characters, each with complex backgrounds and states of mind, all of which helps the viewer understand the pressure many minorities live with and process on a daily basis.
Tumblr media
12. She Dies Tomorrow (dir. Amy Seimetz) Execution is king, even when applied to the simplest of premises, and She Dies Tomorrow is a shining example of this.  In a very John Cassavetes move, director Amy Seimetz took her payment from her appearance in Pet Sematary and used it to fund a personal project that more than likely would have been ignored by studio heads.  The result is a hypnotic, entrancing and haunting film where stillness and anticipation play antagonist, while we as viewers feel the need to transpose ourselves into the protagonists we are presented due to their stilted but emotional performances.  Hopefully this one finds some notoriety in the cult classic realm as the years pass.
Tumblr media
11. The Vast of Night (dir. Andrew Patterson) For a debut film, The Vast of Night handles itself with a surprising amount of confidence in its vision.  The immersion is nearly instant as we are first placed in the premise of a TV show, and then a 1950′s town, but once the actors and camera get going, it’s up to us as viewers to strap in for the ride.  The story is deeply intriguing, the performances are strong enough to carry a very dialogue heavy movie, and the final act is chilling in its reveals.  I will be surprised if this one finds its way to a Best Original Screenplay nomination due to it being a debut film from a relatively unknown writer/director, but if it manages to get the nomination it will certainly be a well-deserved one.
Tumblr media
10. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (dir. Cathy Yan) The movie that broke the list.  If someone would have told me in 2019 that a film directly connected to Suicide Squad would be anywhere on a Top Films list I curated, I would have laughed dead in their face, and yet, here we are.  It’s like every good idea that was poorly executed in Suicide Squad found new life in Birds of Prey, which makes the film not only an entertaining watch, but a satisfying one.  Not only is Margot Robbie perfect in this film (as well as given a break on the exploitative costuming), but Mary Elizabeth Winstead arguably takes a stab at stealing the show with her performance.  Don’t let the DCEU association fool you... Birds of Prey is the real deal.
Tumblr media
9. Never Rarely Sometimes Always (dir. Eliza Hittman) Probably the most contemplative film on the entire list, and impressive in its nature for sure.  To my knowledge, the cast is made up of mostly unknowns (unless I’m sleeping on actors and actresses, which has been known to happen), and as a result, a tough slice of life to swallow is presented in an extremely grounded nature.  Sidney Flanigan gives a powerful performance, hopefully the first of many.
Tumblr media
8. Possessor [Uncut] (dir. Brandon Cronenberg) Easily the most “what the f-ck” film on this list, and certainly one worthy of the Cronenberg name.  Andrea Riseborough has been on my radar since Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and Mandy, and seeing her in a lead role confirms her talent.  I’m a sucker for science-fiction films that don’t rely on digital effects and elaborate set pieces, and Possessor rings both of those bells with a vengeance.  I watched the uncut version, which has a couple of extremely brutal sequences that will unnerve even the most hardened viewer, but these sequences only serve to drive home the lost nature of Tasya, our protagonist.  This one isn’t for everyone, but for those who can stomach a bit off graphicness and process a narrative that doesn’t spoon-feed you answers, this one is a must see.
Tumblr media
7. Da 5 Bloods (dir. Spike Lee) Spike Lee has always been a huge influence on me as both an aspiring filmmaker and a fan of the medium, but I’d be lying if I told you that his last decade was a memorable one.  Outside of BlacKkKlansman, Lee has found himself falling short of his vision more often than not, but Da 5 Bloods is a tonal and stylistic bullseye.  Fans of Lee will dig it, fans of Vietnam films will dig it, and anyone who had an inkling of respect or admiration for Chadwick Boseman will be moved.  If Lee continues to make films as good as this one, he may find an entirely new generation of fans as a result.
Tumblr media
6. Soul (dir. Pete Docter) As mentioned at the top of this list, people love to try and sink films due to their own personal agendas, and Soul found itself in the crosshairs prior to its late 2020 release.  Many people were upset that a minority character would not only spend most of the movie as a blue blob, but would also seemingly serve as a tool for another character’s “salvation”.  That being said, once Soul dropped, anybody with common sense dropped those stances and realized that Pixar had not only made a stunningly beautiful film, but one that likely spoke to adults more than children.  Plain and simple, Soul is a bonafide instant classic.
Tumblr media
5. Kajillionaire (dir. Miranda July) If Evan Rachel Wood doesn’t win an Oscar for her performance in Kajillionaire (or at least garner a nomination), Hollywood needs to collectively have their head checked.  Every year worth its salt has a weird, quirky but loveable film, and Miranda July more than succeeded in making one for 2020.  The humor, both physical and dialogue-based, is on point, and the bittersweet nature of the story is gut-wrenching as the film progresses.  This one was probably the biggest surprise for 2020 in terms of prior awareness versus post-watch admiration.
Tumblr media
4. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (dir. George C. Wolfe) The final film of Chadwick Boseman’s short but prolific career is one that allowed him to exist in the wake of his reality, making his performance powerful and (seemingly) cathartic.  He is surrounded by supreme talent on all sides, as there are no weak performances in this film, and despite it essentially being a play shot for film, it feels far from limited, contained or constrained.  Not only does it speak on larger issues of the commodification of Black pain and talent, but it may serve as a vehicle for a posthumous Oscar for Boseman.
Tumblr media
3. The Devil All The Time (dir. Antonio Campos) This was the first Netflix original that made me really and truly respect them as a film distributor.  The list of talent for The Devil All The Time is truly impressive, and Tom Holland knocked his lead role out of the park.  Robert Pattinson is great as always, and the way that the story winds back into itself keeps you locked in and connected until the credits roll.  For something that came out so many months ago, it’s respectable that it was able to hold such a high position on a list that was as fluid as any I’ve ever put together.
Tumblr media
2. Mank (dir. David Fincher) For a time, this was the hands down film of the year on my list.  Gary Oldman has basically become a “can do no wrong” actor, and his performance was amplified by David Fincher’s ability to emulate the look, sound and feel of a bygone Hollywood era.  On top of this, the built in intrigue that comes with handling anything remotely connected to Orson Welles is present, making Mank almost feel like a companion piece to the prolific film that is Citizen Kane.  If The Devil All The Time was a victory for Netflix, then Mank was the win that put them into a true spot as contenders in the future of film distribution.
Tumblr media
1. I'm Thinking of Ending Things (dir. Charlie Kaufman) Where does one even begin with Charlie Kaufman?  Time and again, he proves to be one of the most truly unique voices to gain fame.  For I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Kaufman seemingly returns to his foundation of odd, offbeat love stories, only to take us on a journey of truly mind-bending and psyche-warping proportions.  Of all the movies on this list, this is the one that almost demands repeat viewings, as one must have an idea of the entire journey before they can understand the individual aspects laid out.  If dialogue isn’t your thing, then this one may not hold you, but that would be a shame, as this beautiful mystery stands head and shoulders above the rest of 2020′s stellar output.
Webtoon Reading List
Romance
1. The Flower that was bloomed by a Cloud 구름이 피워낸 꽃  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 37 at the time of writing this): This has to be one, if not, my all-time favorite from this list. It’s a historical drama webtoon with the most unique power dynamic between our heroine, the forgotten princess born of a concubine who isn’t given respect or power, and her partner, a young genius from his family clan, who just happens to suggest to the princess to become someone who simply can’t be ignored. Their arranged relationship stems off from this encounter as the male lead seems to eye the throne as well as power, with the princess quickly rising beside him. This webtoon is ambiguous in character motives and feelings, making it feel like you’re walking over thin ice. Do they truly love each other? Just how far are they both willing to go to be the one in control over their relationship? And just how far is the male lead willing to go against our heroine’s bodyguard, the only one who’s ever shown her kindness by saving her life when she was young? There were also little music soundtracks on certain important chapters that really made me fall in love...
2. Cheese in the Trap 치즈인더트랩  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
(Season 4 Chapter 73 at the time of writing this): There are so many layers and the buildup to the final season and the soon-to-be conclusion is so satisfying. Jung is such an interesting character that will continue to intrigue you into the end. Not to mention, the other character relationships are very memorable and I can remember a couple of names besides the main character. I loved the improvement of the story and the art style as it went on. You could see growth and development and it was beautiful.
3. Here U Are by D-Jun  ★ ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 109.6 at the time of writing this): I had a difficult time pinpointing just what made this so great. For one, the art style probably destroys every other webtoon on this list as full-color strips with insanely developed compositions and shots accompanied with realistic backgrounds. When I tell you the art in this is incredible, trust me. I will probably never see a clean and polished webtoon like this ever again. This was honestly my first time diving into a manhua since I tend to find Chinese webtoons the most triggering in their content and avoid them a lot (or read the comments to check if it’s alright). But I appreciate the commentary on gay relationships as well as a main character who’s just normal... Like the fact that I’m saying this is honestly upsetting because shouldn’t this be normal? Of course, a character should be more than their preference, but there’s something about the way this particular story goes about it that left a deep impression on me. I think you’ll understand if you give it a read.
4. Lucia 루시아  ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 36 at the time of writing this): I wouldn’t say it’s terrible, but it’s not one of the stronger fantasy webtoons I’ve read. The only thing it has going for it the mysterious history behind a duke’s family that our heroine marries into to protect herself as the 16th princess of the kingdom. Also, there’s smut, but there’s not much to get excited about since we’re not really given a reason to like the duke so much besides his appearance.
5. True Beauty 여신강림  ★ ★
(Episode 80 at the time of writing this): I’m not a huge fan of it but I tend to follow it just because the art is sometimes nice. The story is stuffed full of cliches, but really shameless ones that really don’t add anything to the story or characters. I felt like I’ve been going in circles with no goal to end up in.
Isekai
1. Doctor Elise 외과의사 엘리제  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 108 at the time of writing this): This probably has to be the most entertaining isekai out of the entire list, as it is ranked on top. Call it a guilty pleasure but I loved how the heroine’s acquisition of knowledge is entirely justified. Being a doctor in her previous life, it makes sense why she knows so much. Often with isekai, the heroine knows particular information but I never understand how because they never came off as intelligent prior to the way they acted. The art style is quite satisfying and normal for these isekai stories... Big eyes.
2. Who Made Me a Princess 어느날 공주가 되어버렸다  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 65 at the time of writing this): The only reason this story isn’t on top is because it made my heart fucking tear into pieces with the biggest conflict I swear I’ve ever come across that hasn’t been resolved yet. So, there is no satisfaction yet, thus I had to put it as #2. But goddamn, this manhwa is out of this world. It’s incredible and makes me feel in such a confused and complex way. The father and king is another interesting character (who’s almost probably the hottest male out of all these webtoons combined) and watching his character develop warmed my soul up. His intentions and motives slowly come together and everything starts making sense. There’s a lot of analysis about his character on Tumblr so you can search for that. His existence brings up interesting conversations about whether his treatment of his daughter, the heroine, is justified. Is he a poor soul hurting from the death of his lover? Or is he simply resentful to the daughter than took his wife’s life away?
3.  The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion 그녀가 공작저로 가야 했던 사정  ★ ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 114 at the time of writing this): This was the first isekai webtoon I read and I do not regret it. I’m glad it was this story because the main character is actually justified for the smart calls that she makes rather than pulling it from her ass. The comedy is actually somewhat humorous and the art definitely reminds me of Doctor Elise’s. It scores points in the mysterious factor as well as developing a good romance at an even pace.
4. To Be You, Even Just For A Day 하루만 네가 되고 싶어  ★ ★ ★
(Chapter 6 at the time of writing this): We love a villainous princess who seeks revenge and will do anything in her power to claim what rightfully belongs to her. She’s cunning and smart, but I need more to have better judgment over the entire story.
5. Lady Baby 레이디 베이비  ★ ★
(Chapter 55 at the time of writing this): This shit is so fucking slow and long, the only thing saving it is the cute and moe main character. Please, you can build plot and characters at the same time. Please increase the pacing... it’s so incredibly slow I can barely handle it.
6. A False Confession 잘못된 고백  ★ ★
(Chapter 16 at the time of writing this): One of the main love interests literally reminds me of Kirito from SAO from his appearance which was somewhat concerning given his personality to be almost the same LOL. I need more chapters to see where the story is going.
Digging Deeper
Thank you to my radiant wonderful friend @alienfuckeronmain for sending me EXACTLY the type of self indulgent wind-down activity I wanted on this otherwise depressing weekend! If anyone else wants to answer FORTY-NINE QUESTIONS about themselves, I’m super nosy and will read it all! @fight-the-seether @ptolemyofchaos @butchwizard @metalbutch @nyndelion @comrade-ziltoid @leatherdear @kristalknobb Enjoy, friends!
1. Do you prefer writing with a black pen or blue pen? I prefer black, but I always feel like I write neater in blue??
2. Would you prefer to live in the country or city? The city, but only if it has breathable air, green infrastructure, and decent public transit. So like... definitely no city in America lmao
3. If you could learn a new skill what would it be? The ability to quickly become fluent in another language! I’ve been struggling with Spanish for literal YEARS and it’s honestly pathetic. My brain is so stuck on English.
4. Do you drink your tea/coffee with sugar? Look pal. If I wanna drink sugar, I’m gonna have a soda, not herb water or bean juice.
5. What was your favorite book as a child? I was OBSESSED with The Wish List, by Eoin Colfer (of Artemis Fowl fame). I remember being so fascinated by how dark it was?? It’s an afterlife adventure, where the main character has to escape purgatory by atoning for her crimes of robbery and fraud and whatever. I had a crush on her, so basically this book made me want to pursue a life of crime, even though it explicitly condemns crime and depicts Hell as a very real and horrible place. I was in like fourth grade and was super morbidly curious about Hell and the possibility of going there! Lol
6. Do you prefer baths or showers? Baths... but only when I’m not actually dirty going in. A bath is leisure, not hygiene.
7. If you could be a mythical creature, which one would you be? 100% fae! I would build my dwelling within a sidhe mound, steal shiny things in the middle of the night, make bastardly little contracts for no reason, and cause harmless mayhem and mischief because mortals really are fools (go off, robin goodfellow!) Also I love mushroom circles and dancing in the moonlight.
8. Paper or electronic books? Paper all the way! I read much more content electronically, but it’s usually in the short story or article format. Books are much better in print, I think.
9. What is your favorite item of clothing? Probably my rust-brown overalls.
10. Do you like your name or would you like to change it? I’ve always hated my name but no alternative has ever stuck, unfortunately. My name is Amy, and I don’t think it fits at all. If I knew I’d never have to correct anyone on it, I’d probably just change it to Amelia?
11. Who is a mentor to you? My little brother! He’s this genius musician, and he has taught me so much about song structure, polyrhythms, guitar technique, production tricks, all kinds of trivia that really deepen my appreciation for music and the LABOR that goes into it.
12. Would you like to be famous and if so, what for? No, never, not for anything. I cherish my anonimity so much, I don’t even put searchable tags on this blog cuz I get an adrenaline spike from anxiety if too many people interact with me. I also just think fame is a fucking hideous construct. I don’t think it’s even slightly cool or desirable.
13. Are you a restless sleeper? No, I’m a fucking log. I can easily sleep for 12 hours straight. Thanks, depression!
14. Do you consider yourself a romantic person? No, actually. I’m very much in love, and it brings me lots of joy to do nice things with and for my partner! But romance feels very difficult for me to connect with. I’m super domestic, like, I love the idea of marriage but not necessarily a wedding, or a moonstruck romance or whatever. Those dramatic gestures feel very awkward for me.
15. Which element best represents you? EARTH. Specifically, like... dirt, or soil.
16. Who do you want to be closer to? I want to be geographically closer to my family. We’re thick as thieves, but we all live like 50 miles apart from each other. I miss my brothers and my parents so much, I feel so incomplete and depressed without them to hang out with, especially since quarantine.
17. Do you miss someone at the moment? See above! Lol
18. Tell us about an early childhood memory. When my little brother was a baby, he had this grey car seat with a folding mechanism which held his legs in place. It made a very satisfying clicking sound when the mechanism moved, AND when it was fully unfolded, it looked a lot like a Klingon battle cruiser. (Or so my five year old brain thought.) So! My older brother and I would take this seat out of the car CONSTANTLY so that we could unfold it and “sing” the Klingon theme music from Star Trek: The Motion Picture while we scooched our car seat battle cruiser across the living room floor, pretending to shoot phasers into the TV or the dining table or whatever else got in our way.
19. What is the strangest thing you have eaten? Gifilte fish, maybe?
20. What are you most thankful for? My family, including my wonderful partner and all the cats in our lives!
21. Do you like spicy food? Yes! But my tolerance for extreme spice decreases every year, unfortunately. So I can’t handle as much heat as I used to, but I do enjoy a good kick.
22. Have you ever met someone famous? Lmaooo I made the regretful decision to PAY FOR a meet&greet with Fall Out Boy in like 2006, which was so fucking awkward and painful, I vowed to never approach that level of lame again.
23. Do you keep a diary or a journal? TONS! I’m an obsessive record keeper. Some years I journal more than others, and I’ve found that it is super difficult to keep up with it while working full time. But it’s absolutely one of my favorite hobbies.
24. Do you prefer to use a pen or pencil? Pen for writing. Pencil for drawing, and math.
25. What is your star sign? Virgo sun, Aquarius moon, Scorpio rising 🙃
26. Do you like your cereal soggy or crunchy? Crunchy! A shallow bath in that milk is key.
27. What would you want your legacy to be? My artwork. I go through these aesthetic phases every year that I become super obsessed with/ focused on, and I’ve always meant to catalogue them in annual art journals, but I’ve NEVER FINISHED ONE! They always get pushed aside by the need to work, and I hate that so much. If I could just take a year off work and backfill all of my missed concepts into completed books, I would be so happy. But I literally have NO WAY to pay for that, absolutely none. I fucking hate capitalism.
28. Do you like reading, what was the last book you read? I love to read, but finishing a whole book has been A STRUGGLE lately! Right now I’m chipping away at Tending Brigid’s Flame, which is a quaint lil devotional for the Celtic fire goddess. Very new agey, like cheesy Wiccan vibes. I love that shit!
29. How do you show someone you love them? Quality time!
30. Do you like ice in your drinks? Only if I have a straw. Ice touching my teeth kinda makes me wince.
31. What are you afraid of? Incompetance, doing a bad job, letting someone down, taking up too much space, being a nussiance, etc
32. What is your favourite scent? Incense! Especially cinnamon, dragon’s blood, and amber.
33. Do you address older people by their name or surname? I always call people, regardless of age, by the name they ask me to use. Sometimes it’s a surname or title, usually it’s a first name. I’ll ask their preference if I’m unsure. But I definitely don’t default toward a surname, that’s weird.
34. If money was not a factor, how would you live your life? COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY!!!!!! The need for money rules literally every single hour of my entire life, and I hate it so much. I’m naturally nocturnal, but my job requires me to get up super early and sit in a car for 11 hours a day. I wake up at 5am, come home front work at 5pm, spend an hour or two trying to unwind, then go to bed and do it all over again. I hate my life! Really! I never see the stars, I never exercise, I am completely exhausted and burnt out all the time, and I barely get any quality time with my partner. If money were no object, I would sleep til noon or 1, make art and hike all day, ride my bike and stargaze all night, stay up til 4am reading and playing with my cats, and sleep like a baby. My partner and I would cook dinner for each other and watch Star Trek and collaborate on art projects and I would be so happy.
35. Do you prefer swimming in pools or the ocean? Here’s my hierarchy: Private pool > ocean > public pool
36. What would you do if you found £50 on the ground? I’d look around to see if anyone obviously dropped it and try to give it back. If I couldn’t find anyone, I’d exchange it for dollars and deposit that shit into my account!
37. Have you ever seen a shooting star? Of course!! Hundreds!
38. What is the one thing you would want to teach your children? America is evil and needs to be destroyed.
39. If you had to have a tattoo, what would it be and where would you get it? Lmao this is so cute. If you HAD TO HAVE a tattoo! I really wanna finish my damn sleeves, they’re literally 9 years in the making and barely half finished. But I’d also love more art on my legs! I DESPERATELY want Ziltoid in a lacy valentine heart on my thigh.
40. What can you hear now? Our fish tank water bubbling and my fan on full blast.
41. Where do you feel the safest? Home alone, doors locked, windows covered, lights low. I absolutely LOVE to not be seen or perceived in any way.
42. What is the one thing you want to overcome/conquer? My fear of discomfort
43. If you could time travel to another era, which one would you choose? I feel like I’d want to be a teen in the 80’s and an adult in the 90’s. Does time travel work that way?
44. What is your most used emoji? 😭 or 😎
45. Describe yourself using one word. Defeated
46. What do you regret the most? Convincing myself that math was too hard or boring (or something?) when I was in middle school. I feel like I’m actually a pretty intelligent person who could’ve totally overcome that difficulty and gone on to understand all kinds of patterns and concepts which have eluded me to this day! It’s so frustrating to try and fight that formative self-concept, which now comes naturally but ultimately sabotages me. 💀
47. Last movie you saw? I made my partner watch Troop Beverly Hills, one of my childhood faves. It’s so fun! I love chick flicks so much.
48. Last tv show you watched? Deep Space Nine. Getting through the first season has been harder than expected. It’s actually my favorite Star Trek show?? (Orrrr maybe that’s TNG, ahh! It’s so hard to choose!) But season one is so baffling and awful! Why is there so much space capitalism??! And racism? And war? And drinking alcoholic beverages? #notmystartrek
49. Invent a word and its meaning. I used to call a single strand of curly hair a “curly quink” when I was a child. Therefore, a “quink” is a section of hair, usually a particularly cute or iconic one.
m.yg x f.r |“She’s Just My Neighbour” | 01
Tumblr media
Chpt. Summary: One gain is one loss is just how the world works and after you've gained something you've desired for so long, unfortunately, what you've already had for a longer period of time is taken away.
Call it fate or just bad luck.
Genre: fluff + angst
Length: 3.4k
A/N: Hey my Lovely Dolls! I'm so sorry this took such a long time to come out but I had, unfortunately, lost all of my planning for this entire series, which really discouraged me from writing it. I'm slowly getting the plot back together and am hoping to continue on with this at a good pace. Thank you all for being so patient and I'm so sorry for the short chapter, I'll make it up to you all in the next one - That's a promise!
Love you all so much!
Enjoy the read!
It’s was a regular Sunday afternoon and you were out in your garden. You were a very big fan of flowers and so was your cat, it seemed. She loved laying down in the sunspots beside them, it was as though she had an exquisite sense of smell that attracted her to the mature scent of your roses. Aside from the flora, you also loved growing your own produce, it was all too satisfying to eat the very vegetables and fruit you’ve been able to grow yourself, there was a new found appreciate you had for them - unlike the ones from the shops. Being frugal was also convenient for you, seeing as the ‘local’ shops were an hour’s commute away and wasting gas for something that you could make on your own, was something that you felt wasn’t as productive for you.
“Hey, Duchess~” you coo a greeting as your Persian cat makes her way over to you. She’s always been a little more affectionate than most other cats so she takes a moment to rub up against your thighs as your knees dig into the dirt. “Pretty kitty~” you coo and giggle as she leaves your side after having had enough of your gentle pets and scratches. She doesn’t go far, settling in the sunspot beside your ankles as her soft, waving tail tickles the small stretch of skin your old, ankle-cropped jeans couldn’t cover. Smiling down at her, you sigh in content before going back to tend to your flowers.
Not many more minutes drag by before you’re getting up to have a stretch, throat parched and eager for a cold glass of water. Bringing your gaze down, you find Duchess already staring up at you but still curled up and contentedly flaunting her cotton-white tail up and down. “Are you going to be okay out here, kitty?” you muse, reaching down and giving the soft tuffet of fur atop her head a rub. Flashing a brief smile, you make your way into your house and wash your hands before handling ice into a tall glass cup. Eager to get back to working on your flowerbeds, you walk out after inhaling half of your glass and was about to get back to work when two voices cut through the quaint silence in the air.
“So here it is.” came a familiar voice. It was Jisoo - the real estate agent that usually handled the people that were interested in accommodating the other half of your semi-detached house. “The other half is already accommodated but the half you will potentially be living in has been kept in good shape.” a deep, gruff grunt of acknowledgement directed your eyes to a male with an unreadable face. Aside from that, he was really handsome, true, his hair was very dishevelled and his clothes appeared to have been put on with not much care. His jeans were faded and ripped at the knees while his black, oversized hoodie draped all the way down to his mid-thigh. Piercing, half-lidded brown eyes met your own as you hurriedly tried to dust down your worn and dirt-crusted jeans, inwardly wincing at your ugly green pleaded button up shirt.
As you opened your mouth, about to greet the two, your mind reeling and hoping that if you couldn’t make the best first impression appearance-wise, then you can certainly compensate with your personality - which is what counted - the unnamed male was already making his way towards you.
“Is it busy around here?” he asked with a voice deeper than the ocean and rougher than the most coarse fabric you’ve ever touched.
“N-no-” you cough, ridding of your timid voice, “It’s actually really peaceful-”
“Are you loud?”
“Wha-?!” you splutter, unable to comprehend his rapid-fire questions but also feeling quite weary of his enquires.
He rolled his eyes and you pretended not to notice, “Will you be loud?”
“Umm…no. I don’t even own a speaker-”
“Would you mind in I blast my music?” so he liked music - it’ll be wise for you to play towards his interests.
“Of course not-”
“Good…” and he ends the interrogative conversation there, turning on his heel to walk back to Jisoo, who flashed her usual smile.
“That’s (y/n), she’s a great person and am sure will make you feel right at home-” the two of you briefly meet eyes and you give her a thankful smile. She was a good friend of yours as you had plenty of time to talk with her as she gave multiple others a tour of the living space the house provided.
“Yeah, yeah. Nice to meet you, I’m Min Yoongi,” he goes to shake your hand but already pulls his hand away before you could reach for his in the middle of bowing, “I think I’m done for today.” he shrugs having already turned around to face Jisoo, causing both you and the estate agent to blink in surprise. He was definitely someone who knew what he wanted and although he was quite rude, your heart stuttered just by his entire aesthetic.
“B-but Mr.Min, you haven’t even looked through the house.” she tried to explain but was still speechless at the fact that he had booked this appointment, and yet, wasn’t willing to spend all of his allocated time.
“It’s alright. That woman, (y/n), had been able to answer all of the questions I needed answered.” you see Jisoo attempt to coerce him into, at least, stepping into the house. “and besides, I could tell from all the pictures on your website that the interior is well kept. There is no furniture left, is there?” he asks, stepping closer to the car he arrived in.
“N-no, it’s completely barren in there,” Jisoo confirms. Never before has she met a client that was so sure of themselves. It wasn’t all that bad but it was so unlike the others that it was only just beginning to sink in how refreshing it was to direct someone who knew what they wanted.
“Alright then.” with that being said, they were already leaving. With such a brief and expeditious visit, you were reluctant to hope that he would end up choosing to buy the space. Sighing in discontent, you stared down at Duchess, who stood up at your sudden shift in mood, that was able to bring you some form of comfort, knowing that she knew you well enough to tell when you were the littlest bit upset. It wasn’t a surprising fact though, you had gotten Duchess when you had turned sixteen and you were already twenty-four, making her eight years old already. For an old cat, she looked as adorable as you had first gotten her as a three-month-old kitten.
“I’ll be okay, kitty,” you assure with kind eyes, crouching down to pick her up in your arms where her now non-moving tail hangs off your makeshift cradle, as if to mimic your downcast mood, “I have you looking out for me, and that’s all I need.” with a giggle, you decide to abandon your work for the day, no longer in the mood to dig around in the dirt for the benefit of your flowers. “An early, mini dinner sounds like a good plan right about now, don’t you think Duchess?” you coo, attempting to distract yourself.
It had been a week and the exchange between you and the handsome but also very blunt man had been long forgotten, and you only have Duchess to thank for being your one distraction. Your friends, who live in the city, have also made their regular calls with the usual gaggle of gossip about incompetent coworkers and the like, also aided in your lapse of memory. Only the concise interaction was forgotten, however, and unfortunate for you, you were able to remember his gorgeous face and times where you’re left in the silence to contemplate your thoughts had you biting your lower lip at his hunky appearance. Having a love interest wasn’t a big fantasy of yours and so you hadn’t determined an ‘ideal type’ of guy for yourself, although, if you had to imagine one, he would be the perfect example. It comes totally unexpected seeing as your appearance is the exact opposite of his aesthetic. He seems to prefer dark colours in a very casual and comfortable style. You, on the other hand, leaned more towards pastels and nudes with the occasional patterned shirt or jumper, you were proud, though, that you are also someone who appreciated a casual comfortable look.
Sighing into your glass teacup, you took a cautious sip of the steaming beverage. This morning was very busy with you talking to clients on the phone whilst making spontaneous designs onto your desktop, all this was then followed by answering multiple emails of past and potential clients and that work carried onto confirming details on designs and setups. You were glad that you had something to do and that your small private business was thriving and getting popular every day but you would have better preferred being out in the garden. It’s an ironic thought, however, seeing as you used to hate digging your knees into the dirt and having to sweat under the blistering gaze of the sun but over time, you had come to appreciate the benefits it brought you and the therapeutic sensation it brought about amidst your hectic occupational commitments.
After the workload you had to mentally force yourself through this morning, however, you were too tired to be out tending to your flowers and cleared up work on your calendar to have time for them tomorrow. For now, you’re settling down with some spicy tea and a warm book, your legs curled underneath a woolly blanket as Duchess purrs in your lap. At some points, she’d weakly look up at you with pleading eyes, which you could never say no to and would reach out to rub behind her ears and stroke down her back. You don’t know if it’s your worry over her old age that is making you realise that she’s seeming a lot weaker recently but you’ve seen her have very lazy times, especially when you know she feels lonely.
As you contemplate phoning into the vets or simply paying more attention to Duchess, you hear the robust noise of a large vehicle. Glancing down at Duchess, you find her already staring up at you, “Who could that be Duchess?”
Inhaling a gasp, your feet almost push off the carpet and fly to the door and sprint its way to the movers so that you could help with anything but looking down at your attire and fluffy socks, you shake your head with a laugh. You could be so silly sometimes. “We’re getting a new neighbour Duchess!” you cheer down at her before taking another glance out of the window from behind your curtains and instantly flush a brilliant red when you make immediate eye contact with your fantasy man from last week. “Yoongi…” you muttered under your breath at which he raised his brow at, clearly having read your lips. Squeaking, you turn away, your face becoming hotter than your steaming cup of tea. The outfit he had on today had your knees turning weak as his smouldering eyes pushed your knees to quake beneath you.
He was in all black: black belt, turtleneck, jeans, shoes, cap, mask and the killer black leather jacket. You begin to wonder what type of job he has, was he a model of some sort? Why would he move all the way out here? He says he likes music so could he be a musician of some sort? He certainly has a similar eccentric air to artists of a particular craft, you just have yet to uncover his speciality.
“It’s Yoongi, Duchess…” you whisper down at her, quickly turning to look past your curtains again in hopes of catching another eyeful of him, only to sigh in disappointment when it appears as though he was beginning to help the movers with the boxes. That was sweet of him but your greed overrode that appreciation, wanting to desperately drink more of him in. Willing yourself to turn away from the window, you looked down at Duchess who was beginning to fall asleep curled around your feet. This was a really cute habit of hers and it always made you giggle at how adorable she could be. “Can you believe he’s going to be our new neighbour?” you watched as the overgrown white fluff ball yawned and began grooming herself, “Why don’t we making him some cookies so that he feels truly welcomed around here? I hope he likes chocolate chip.”
Humming happily to yourself, you set to work. You wanted to hurry so that you can get it to him on time before he starts getting tired from all the moving around of boxes. From first-hand experience, you know how tiring moving can be and you always end up napping whenever you’re tired, so you don’t want to be the reason why he has to wake up from a nap. Thankfully, the window from your kitchen faces the front yard and you’re able to see the gradual process of the movers as well as Yoongi's and, as much as you’d like to ogle the man, you don’t want anything to go wrong with the cookies you’re preparing for him. A good first impression as his neighbour is what you’re determined to convey to him.
To you, it’s fairly easy to bake cookies because you’ve made them multiple times seeing as they’re your favourite snacks, and so, you’re able to get them into the oven in no time flat and patiently wait for them to cook through to perfection. There’s still the added few minutes that you have to allow for them to cool but you aren’t worried about time, from the looks of things, you’ll be able to deliver them with perfect timing.
It seemed to take forever for the cookies to come out the oven and cool down enough for you to take over to your new neighbour, however, now that you were standing right in front of his door with the cookies wrapped up in food-safe decorated paper, forming a cute little pouch of goodies that you tied off with a rustic length of string, your nerves were acting up. Some minutes dragged by with you just standing there, the wrapped cookies in one hand as the other was lifted up and curled into a fist, ready to rap against the front door.
You’ve been so lonely and had been waiting so long for this moment, for someone to start living beside you so that you can have conversations over the garden fence, exchange words of advice and greet each other a good morning for when you both start your days. There was a lot of pressure on you to make a good first impression. It was a sad fact, though, that you were in desperate hopes for this happening when the normal average single woman your age would be hoping for a love story to unfold much like the romanticised ones in movie theatres.
Shaking your head to rid yourself of your delaying thoughts, you inhaled deeply and quickly knocked on the door during exhalation. Now that you had notified him of your presence, you weren’t only left to your distressing thoughts but also to a sudden need to fidget with your hands and feet and mouth. Your teeth were anxiously gnawing at your bottom lip as your hands twirled the excess string extending from their tie on the pouch and your feet shuffled beneath you.
Was it your poor perception of time or did the wait you were forced to endure outside his door last longer than it did when waiting for your cookies to cool?
Eventually, however, you were able to hear the pounding of feet down the staircase through the wooden door, which only added to your already trembling nerves, and before you know it - faster than it took for your cookies to cool - you were face to face with a glum and exhausted looking Yoongi. Completely disregarding his appearance because, admittedly, he’ll always look handsome to you no matter the circumstances, you held out the cookies you had so prettily wrapped.
“U-umm, I wanted to drop by and say hello. I also made you some chocolate chip cookies, I-I hope you like them-” you began and was about to say more if it weren’t for the grunt he gave in thanks before snatching your cookies away and closing the door in your face.
This left you stunned.
Did that really just happen?
In your head, the fun fantasy of all the neighbourly things you were going to do with your new neighbour was slowly shattering and falling to pieces at your stagnant feet, no longer shuffling in anxiousness but remaining still in disappointment and crushed hopes.
Did you, perhaps, have really high expectations from simply having a neighbour around? You often wondered to yourself nowadays, seeing as all of your little daydreams about finally having someone living in the house right beside yours wasn’t at all what you had expected it to be.
You expected - wanted - morning interactions over the small picket fence separating your two front lawns, you wanted casual conversations about things that didn’t matter but things you were still interested in, all in all, you ultimately just wanted someone to cure your lonely life away from the city. Yoongi, however, had other plans and seemed perfectly content with being anti-social and not having to face you or greet you 'good morning' like you always wanted.
Sighing heavily, you tried to continue with handling your garden chores for the week but it was really hard to get on with it due to all of your heavy, lingering thoughts. It wasn’t until the afternoon music from Yoongi’s house started playing through his walls that you were able to muster up a small smile. If you couldn’t have what you wanted from your fantasy neighbour, at least you had the music Yoongi was constantly playing in the afternoon to comfort yourself with. It wasn’t much but it was something, in fact, it was the only thing you had to remind you that there was someone living right beside you. Thinking about it, that is also very agonising to think about and you couldn’t help but huff out a bittersweet smile.
You have hope, however, as you stare down at your elderly cat who was, once again, sleeping in a sunspot beside your feet, you have hope that he’ll come out of his shell and see you as someone that he knows he can greet every morning and be confident that he’ll receive a response from instantaneously.
Sometimes, you’d wonder if you were being too unrealistic, after all, you can’t expect everyone to meet all of your expectations just because they have a certain role in your life as your neighbour. All you need is a cure for your loneliness and you’ve somehow placed all the responsibilities of that onto your neighbour even before you had one and now that you had one, you were utterly disappointed that it wasn’t at all what you had expected.
You took a second to momentarily immerse yourself in the music Yoongi was blasting through the powerful speakers you had seen him bring into his house from the moving van, “At least I have you, Duchess…” reaching out to your sleeping cat, you gently stroke down the fur of her back and frown at the realisation of how fragile her old age has made her.
It’s been several hours since you’ve last seen Duchess and you were beginning to worry. You allow her to have the freedom to roam but she was always back before it got too dark because she loves having her dinner, however, today, despite all of your callings, you were getting no response.
It was odd, very odd, especially for her. And you were beginning to really worry and stress for her safety.
“Duchess, where are you?!” you were almost sobbing, fearing the worst of the worst and when you had finally turned your gaze towards the road, your heart and entire world shattered before you at the sight of your loyal companion laying dormant beside the pavement, splashes of bloodbloodblood red staining her usually pristine white fur.
