do people assume that Drake only keeps Launchpad because he makes him look superior by comparison?

Ooh, that sounds kinda controversial.

It all comes down to Drake’s ego. Either he treats Launchpad like a mutual, trusting him with Gosalyn, missions, piloting, etc.

Or (and I know people DO ship 91 Drakepad, I do too) he uses Launchpad’s puppy-dog mentality to boost that growing ego of his. And I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the only reason DW kept LP around.

But despite all of that, he does need Launchpad. Drake wouldn’t be able to balance his double life by himself. Before he adopted Gos, his whole identity has revolved around Darkwing Duck, not Drake Mallard. Who knows how long it’s been since he’s lived a domestic life?

If he were to pursue his duties as Darkwing without Launchpad, it’s most likely he’ll be neglecting Gosalyn in the process.

But Drake needs LP as a partner, a guardian to his daughter, and more importantly, as his anchor.
