currently reading: about 4 fanfics (spirk, spones, mckirk are all involved. what can i say, my tastes are varied) and the book Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving by Pete Walker. life changing.

favourite colour: yellow. yellow is the love of my life, my favorite flower is a sunflower and my favorite desserts are lemon, i cannot be normal about this.

last song: The Summoning by Sleep Token has taken over my life.

last movie: the first of the Hobbit trilogy because myself and the Hubs are showing my son LOTR franchise for the first time. he's loving it.

sweet/spicy/savory: i have such a sweet tooth but probably have to go with savory

currently working on: my writing, as always. there's some fun spirk fic i hope to share soon. i'm also working on some personal growth. trying to make my mental health the priority that it hasn't been in over a decade and it is...hard as hell. no way to get through it but to go forward.

1 Do you have a word count goal for the year? yes! this year I'm aiming to write 250k total words!

5 Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet? This one is an AOS spirk shore leave fic where they stay at Jim's childhood home and Jim pines for Spock. Here's a snippet of them sharing a bed in the guest room:

“Should I get the light?”

“Please.”

Jim gets the light, and immediately he feels himself relax. At least he can’t feel Spock’s eyes on him any longer. Shutting the door softly, Jim exhales slowly, steadying himself, then releases the knob and crosses the room, blindly navigating the room to get to his side of the bed. He manages to hit the bed frame with his shin, and he grimaces, cursing under his breath as he feels around, gripping the edge of the mattress as he rounds it and finally reaches his side and pulls back the covers, climbing in.

He’s sure Spock heard him fumble around, and he’s grateful that Spock remains silent as he gets comfortable. It isn’t until he’s settled that he hears Spock exhale. “Sleep well,” Spock says gently.

Or maybe it isn’t gently. He’s gotta be hearing things, because Spock doesn’t do gently.

Jim’s fucked if he can’t trust his own ears anymore.

7 Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers? I'm trying to comment more on fics. With multi-chapter works that have been published for years, I'll sometimes only leave a comment on the last chapter, and I'd like to leave comments more often than that. But as far as interacting on a personal level, I think I've made a fair amount of friends just by being on this site and following people and supporting their work, so I'll keep doing what I've been doing :)

16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?

I think the weirdest thing would probably be a ruler or a dental dam??? But I don't use impromptu bookmarks very often unless I need to reference a lot of specific pages quickly and have run out. I also doggy-ear liberally.

23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.

The space I usually write in has a lot of artwork and educational posters on the walls, two adjoined bookshelves arranged alphabetically by author surname (except for the tallest shelf on the bottom because it's just textbooks and reports). There are small plants and a now-stagnated mushroom colony, the sensory toy/tool box, multiple hand sanitizers, more used cups than is probably advisable, a paper recycling bin, and stationery. The ceiling/wall is light blue and slanted. The floor is padded with foam mats. There is a large wooden table, an office chair, and a 5-bulb rainbow lamp, but only the blue bulb works. There is a window, right outside of which is a linden tree (home to many bird conferences). A lot of sound comes up from outside. It's a very colourful, comfortable room. To me, it smells a bit like wet trees, but I think it also smells kind of minty/herbal because of the cleaning supplies I use.

26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?

This question is difficult... I don't think I ever regret going there, and I don't find it difficult to get out. I don't really think of it as getting into anyone's head, I more think of it as building an experience for the reader, letting the reader into the character's fictional shoes. I like to do a lot of research into my character's interests, and I catalogue what behaviours I want them to have, what their life philosophy is and why, and try to let that influence the way I write. I guess studying for my degree probably helps me do this (or made me do it this way??), but I wouldn't say I'm great at it. I'm still improving 💪

Generally, yes! Basically I'll switch into whatever my favorite comfortable clothes are that day (that are also clean enough).

16. thoughts on mint chocolate chip?

Pretty indifferent. I get why people like it, but I also get why people don't like it. I might eat it if it's being served, but I also wouldn't ever choose it.

22. do you have an emotional support water bottle?

I don't know if I'd call it an emotional support water bottle, but I do have a preferred water bottle that I carry with me, yes!

Malfunction by Maeko - AOS - a nice, short nightcap when you need something sweet to read before bed

Impulse (or, Three Kisses) by decidedlynotheterosexual @decidedly-not-heterosexual - TOS - spock loses control but in the *sweetest* way and they talk about it like adults and this is just soothing and nice

The Proposal by TheKittyCorps @contrascene - AOS - spirk version of "the proposal." laugh out loud funny in parts (yes, hijinks included)

Heirs to the Glimmering World by gunstreet @gunstreet - SNW/TOS - sybok, michael, and sam conspire to get their brothers together!! siblings! tentative first meetings! sex!

De Profundis by Rhaegal (RhaegalKS) - TOS - tmp-era spirk. spock knows he fucked up so he's gonna woo jim

The Kiss by awarrington - TOS - there are some super dated things in this fic (it was originally written in 1994) but this is one of the best i've read dealing with jim coming to terms with his bisexuality and attraction to spock. def don't read if you can't or don't want to take it in context of its time. if you can/have the emotional bandwidth to, then it's well worth it

On the Arrow by Fic_me_senseless - AOS - post-into darkness, heavy read, so much longing, and pain, and it makes you ache in the best way

i'm also in a "watch beyond on repeat phase" so here are my favorite post-beyond fics:

The Steadfastness of Stars by itsnatalie - AOS - this fic. THIS FIC. i was only going to read one paragraph, really. i skipped work, read the whole thing, and now this is in my top five spirk fics

in my life, i love you more by spaceisgay (ChancellorGriffin) - AOS - idek how many times i've read this now. i watch beyond, i read this fic. if they never make a fourth movie, this will be my canon

And Then I Let It Go by kianspo - AOS - yorktown happens, spock goes missing, jim goes after him. this could so be canon too

Why are you doing this?

I love complaining! I think it’s healthy for the heart and soul, and sometimes you just need someone to listen. I will listen. I too am a hater deep into my bones.

What can I gripe about?

Anything! Did you have a bad day? Did someone in your life make you wanna scratch your own eyeballs out? Are you stressed? Is your favorite show doing something really stupid? Tell me about it!
