Summer Lovin’
Alternate Title: Five times Nico's friends tried to set him up with Will (and one time they found out they were already together)
SolangeloWeek Day 2 - Secret Relationship / Fake Dating
Words: 3040
Read on Ao3
I.
Annabeth was the one to point out the change to Piper on the plane.
“Have you noticed that this is the first time Nico ever brought someone along with him on this trip?” she gestured to the aisle diagonal to them, where Nico and Will seemed to be arguing quietly about something in their respective middle and window seats. Reyna was reading a book next to them in the aisle seat with her earbuds in, seemingly unaware of what was going on beside her.
This trip itself had been an annual thing for a while now. It had originally been organized by Sally Jackson for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. At some point, Nico started tagging along as well, and others just joined from there. They tried to find a date where everyone could come, but as they got older, they all found less time in their schedules. Grover, Rachel, and Thalia couldn’t make it this year. However, they found a new face joining them this year: Will Solace.
Each of them had met Will at least once. It didn’t occur to them that maybe there was a reason why until this moment.
They watched the two continue their conversation. Nico was gesturing wildly, probably complaining about being stuck in the middle seat, while Will listened and occasionally offered an opinion that would either have Nico agreeing or just cause him to go off again. Neither could tell what they were saying over the loud jets of the plane, but it was clear how wrapped up in each other they were.
“Oh my god,” Piper remarked. “I’ve never seen him talk like this to any of us in this early in the day!” (Their flight was at 9:00 in the morning, which required them to all get up an ungodly hour). “Nico must like him a lot.”
Annabeth grinned. “Good thing, because-” she gestured towards Will, who was grinning as Nico leaned in slyly to tell him something, probably about one of them. “Will definitely likes him back.”
***
Walking into their rental house was like lifting a weight off everyone’s shoulders. There was no doubt that this was the best part of the year; no responsibility, just the sun, and a beach, and the ocean. They had to start renting a bigger condo when more people started tagging along, but somehow everyone found their spot.
“Okay,” Percy clapped as everyone stood in the hallway, unsure of where to go next. “We’ve got five bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed, two bathrooms, and a couple of pull-out couches and air mattress if we need them. Beds are my mom, and Annabeth, Jason and Piper, Hazel and Frank, and…” he trailed off, looking between his friends as if deciding which one he could save from a fire. Or, in this case, a couch.
“Nico and Will,” Annabeth supplied. She and Piper made eye contact, sharing small smiles as Nico and Will didn’t react, although both blushed lightly. Nico’s probably just thankful to not be on a mattress this time, Annabeth decided.
Percy just nodded off his surprise. “Right,” he trailed off before looking back up to his other two friends. “Leo, Piper, you two good with the pull-outs?” They both nodded, traces of I’ve-had-worse evident in their face. “Great! One of the couches is in one of the bedrooms, so Jason and Piper can take that room and Leo can take that couch. Reyna, you get the living room.” With that, everyone went on their way to unpack.
“How long have Will and Nico been a thing?” Jason whispered as they walked to their respective rooms. He looked guilty like he missed out on the biggest moment of Nico’s life.
“They aren’t. Not yet, at least. Annabeth and I have a plan.” Piper grinned. “You want in?”
“Oh, absolutely.”
They all gathered in the living room once they had finished, ready to talk game plan for the week.
“Okay, first things first, we need to go grocery shopping. Nico, Reyna, Will, can you guys handle it if we make a list?” Annabeth starts, perched on a ledge of the couch.
“Why do we have to? We did last year-” Nico started, but Will put a hand on his shoulder before pulling him up. Nico just grumbled as he walked towards the door with Reyna, and Will turned back around to give them a knowing smile.
The moment they walked out the door, Percy turned to his girlfriend with bewilderment. “What was that about?”
Piper grinned. “We’re trying to get them together.”
“And we have a plan,” Annabeth added. “We needed them out of here so we could tell you guys.”
Hazel looked like she was trying to hold back laughter. “I’m staying out of this,” she said, curls bouncing as she shook her head. “But good luck.” With that, she stood up and started to make her way back to her room.
“Oh, uh, me too,” Frank said, quickly getting up to follow her.
“Alright guys,” Piper leans forward, rubbing her hands together like an evil scientist. “Here’s what we got.”
II.
They put their plan into action the next morning, starting with Piper and Jason jumping onto Nico’s bed.
They were disappointed to find Will already awake and trying to help Sally with breakfast when they woke. (Keyword: try. The poor boy could barely make toast without burning it. Sally put him in charge of cutting fruit). Nevertheless, if any sort of accidental cuddling happened in the night, it would remain a mystery to the rest of them.
“What the hell are you doing?” Nico glowered at them before shoving his face back into the pillow he had previously been sound asleep on before the two shook him awake.
“We brought you coffee,” Jason offered. For a second there was no reaction before Nico finally lifted his head. He turned, sitting up and reaching out for the mug, a steady glare still set on the two.
“You didn’t answer my question.”
Piper decided not to waste her time getting to the point. “Do you like Will?”
Nico squinted at them. “What is this, an interrogation?” he asked, cradling the mug closer to his chest.
“Don’t avoid the question.”
“Yes, I like Will,” he sighs. “Happy? Can I go back to sleep now?”
“We just wanted to talk to you because when a man loves a, well, man in your case-” Jason starts, the biggest shit-eating grin on his face. They got what they came for, now it was just time to tease him a little bit.
Nico cuts him off. “Oh my god, shut up.” He shoves a pillow at his face, nearly spilling his coffee. “Get out of my room, or I swear-” but they’re already gone.
Annabeth and Percy, who just had a similar conversation with Will, meet Jason and Piper in the hallway. “So?” Annabeth asks.
“Confirmed. Nico likes him.”
Percy grinned. “Will likes him too.”
They exchanged silent high fives, chattering quietly a bit more about the next step as they walked back into the main room. Sally was still bustling around in the kitchen, and Will, who seemed to have been replaced by Reyna on fruit duty, was setting the dining table.
Everyone was awake by the time Sally called them for breakfast, and they spent the first few minutes eating without much conversation. It was when they got into the topic of last year’s vacation when Piper winked at Annabeth, signaling that she had an idea for the next step in their plan.
“Maybe we can go to that bar that we went to last year,” Piper said, waving a forkful of eggs. “Nico seemed to have met the love of his life on the dance floor, maybe we’ll meet up with him again.”
(She was joking, of course, and Nico probably knew that too. In fact, she was there when he deleted that guy’s number off his phone. Piper was just looking for a reaction out of Will.)
There was a few snorts and giggles from around the table as they all revisited that memory mentally. Nico had a few too many vodka shots that night, thanks to Leo telling him he needed to ‘let loose’, and met some random guy. The parts that weren’t captured on video by his friends were lost in history, but not in their minds.
Nico immediately blushed, eyes cast downwards. “I was drunk,” he mumbled, and Piper immediately looked to Will. The blonde’s look was hard to read, but, he seemed more concerned than jealous.
“Besides,” Nico said, clearing his throat. “I’m over it.” Both Will and Nico seemed satisfied with that end, and they switched conversation topics.
Annabeth and Piper just exchanged a look. Huh.
III.
A classic vacation tradition for them is renting a boat to use for a day. Both Sally and Percy had a boat license, and occasionally Leo or Jason would take the wheel. There were a few different islands scattered around that would make a perfect beach day, or they would sometimes just float and have a boat picnic for lunch.
“I think I actually might be melting.”
Another vacation tradition: Nico complaining about the heat.
The Italian was already shirtless after a quick swim that his friends forced him into. (As in, literally forced. Hazel pushed him in). His jet black hair was damp from water and sweat, as was his neck and chest.
“That’s called sweating, Nico,” Will says without looking up from his book. Anyone within hearing distance snickers at the remark as he glared at Will.
Only when he reached to grab his sunglasses did Will finally look at Nico. “Did you reapply sunscreen after you went swimming?”
“No?” Nico squints. “And it wasn’t voluntary, I got pushed me in-”
“You’re burning up, idiot. You’re lucky you haven’t already gotten skin cancer already,” Will sighs, reaching next to him to grab the sunscreen. “Take some of this. I’ll do your back.”
Tan hands met Nico’s back, slathering white sunscreen into already-pink skin. Meanwhile, Nico was busy attempting (and failing) to rub it in on his face. He looked up to see Annabeth and Piper making kissy faces at him and smirking as Will rubbed his back. His squint deepened, and scrunched his nose and stuck out his tongue at them.
After Will was done, he instructed Nico to go sit in the shade for a little bit. Unfortunately for him, that’s right where Piper and Annabeth were parked.
“So,” Piper asked quietly, leaning forward in her hands so her elbows were balanced on her legs. “What was that about?”
“Will’s a pain in the ass about that sunscreen thing. Makes me wear it whenever we’re out,” Nico said with a shrug, but there was no real anger in his voice.
Annabeth grinned. “So you would say he makes you a better person?”
“Oh, shut up.”
IV.
Piper was surprised at how much Will seemed to love the beach. Actually, it didn’t really surprise her at all; he looked exactly like a surfer guy from any teen movie. It was just surprising after years of Nico being a beach bum to see him bring a guy who was the exact opposite.
That didn’t change Nico’s beach bum habits, though. While they were all currently paddling around in the ocean, he was taking a nap back on shore.
Suddenly, an idea sparked in Piper’s mind.
“Will,” she hissed, grabbing him by his tan, freckled arm. “Do you see that bucket up there?” she gestured towards the bright blue plastic bucket on shore that Percy brought along for some reason, and Will nodded. “Fill it with water and follow my lead,”
Will seemed to know exactly what her motive was. He crept behind her towards Nico, now with a full bucket of water that he was trying his best not to spill.
She gestured towards the sleeping figure, and Will had the biggest shit-eating grin on his face as he dumped the entire bucket over Nico.
Splash.
“Will Solace, you are so dead,” Nico shrieked, jumping up and immediately charging after the boy, who had taken off running.
He chased him around for a while, finally tackling him somewhere down the shore. They wrestled for a moment; Nico seemed to be trying to dump as much sand as possible into Will’s hair. (It was a classic brutal di Angelo move).
They rolled around until Nico found himself on top of Will, and for a second, time seemed to stop. Piper and Annabeth just looked at each other before looking back at the two.
“Is it just me or are their faces getting closer?” Piper whispered. Annabeth didn’t respond, just shaking her head in bewilderment.
It definitely wasn’t just her; the two heads were very clearly moving closer and closer. Will’s lips were nearly a centimeter away from Nico’s.
And then suddenly, they both pulled back like some sort of magnet came out of the air and forced them apart. They trotted back, trying to shake off the sand that was plastered to every inch of their body. Will headed for the ocean while Nico just grabbed a new, dry towel.
“You two are assholes,” Nico said, pointing the towel at them.
Piper chose to ignore that comment. “Why didn’t you kiss him?” she asked.
“‘Cuz we’re in public?” Nico said, before walking off, muttering something about
fangirls.
Piper glanced over at Annabeth, who just shook her head. “Hopeless”, she mouthed.
V.
Nights tended to be colder than the day, so they decided to plan a campfire one of the nights at a nearby park. They loaded Percy’s rental truck with all sorts of blankets and materials for s’mores as well as drinks.
Everyone found their place around the fire. Piper and Annabeth sat next to each other, with their boyfriends flanked on either side of them. Each couple was sharing their own blanket. Next to them was Frank and Hazel, who had a blanket each but was still sitting shoulder to shoulder. Leo sat on a stump between the two groups; he was in charge of keeping the fire roaring. On the other side of Piper’s log sat Sally and Reyna, who seemed to be deep in conversation.
Across from the campfire, though, was where Nico and Will sat. They were practically on top of each other, with one blanket wrapped around their shoulders.
Drinks were handed out as the stars came out above their heads, and in the dim lighting of the fire, Annabeth could see Will and Nico exchanging soft, fond looks.
She caught Nico’s eye as he laid his head down on Will’s shoulder. Grinning, Annabeth held up her and Percy’s intertwined fingers, raising an eyebrow as if to say go on, take your man’s hand!
In return from Nico, she got a glare, but he also reached down and laced his fingers with Will, resting them on his lap. Annabeth decided to take that as a win.
+I
Piper came into Annabeth’s room on the last day of their vacation. They were set to leave late that evening, which meant Piper should be packing, but there was something on her mind.
“I just can’t believe how clueless they are,” she said, flopping down on Annabeth’s bed. The blonde just shook her head as she continued to fold clothes to be packed. “I mean, where did we go wrong?” Piper asked. “We’ve been trying all week to get them together.”
Annabeth placed down another neatly folded shirt. “Maybe that’s our issue. Maybe it’s because we tried so hard. I mean, Percy and I were oblivious for years before we finally got together. It won’t take them that long.”
Piper just sighed. “I hope you’re right,”
They talked for a bit more about other ups and downs of the trip, already planning activities for next year. Piper got up when Annabeth was finished packing, and together they walked to the kitchen. It was their day to make lunch.
In the living room, Nico was sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Will, who was holding his phone out in selfie-mode. They were talking quietly, giggling occasionally at a goofy photo or when Will caught Nico off guard. Piper couldn’t help but to watch them; she really did hope they would get together in the end, or at least stay close friends.
“Just take one cute one with me,” she heard Will beg. “We don’t have any photos together!” Nico sighed, before closing his eyes and leaning in to kiss Will on the cheek. Piper looked over to Annabeth, who rolled her eyes as if to say leave them be.
It was when they actually did kiss that Piper reacted.
“What?!” she gasped, internally losing her shit. Next to her, Annabeth’s eyes had nearly popped out of her head. “Since when have you two been together?”
Will and Nico gave them matching looks of confusion. “Like, 3 months now?”
“You’re kidding me! And you never thought to tell us?” By this point, a few of the others poked their heads in. Percy and Jason both had looks of disbelief, while Leo and Reyna just looked plain confused. Hazel and Frank, who were sitting on the couch next to them, immediately burst into laughter.
“Yes?! I thought you knew!” Now Nico was yelling. “With the way you’ve been treating us all week? I thought this was just Will’s weird initiation into the group!”
“No! We were trying to get you two together!”
For a second, nobody said a word. Then Will started giggling, followed by Nico, and then Piper and Annabeth, and suddenly everyone was laughing so hard, a few were crying.
“I can’t believe you didn’t know!” Nico said once he had calmed down a bit. “I mean, I changed my Facebook relationship status!”
Percy squinted. “Who uses Facebook anymore?”
Hazel and Frank both raised their hands.
“You knew the whole time?” Jason asked them. “And you never thought to tell us?”
Hazel shrugged. “We thought it would be interesting to see how it played out.”
Piper and Annabeth just stood in the kitchen, laughing still. This was by far the most interesting story that had ever come from one of these vacations.

For the Solangelo Week 2019, Day 1 : sun and moon.
I was inspired by these amazing drawings by Riu-Tsuki and decided to try my own take on the “matching sun and moon tatoos” concept. Finding the links took me hours seriously.
It was really fun to do and also and a good learing experience since it forced me to work on drawing hands. I had more ides, but some did not match solangelo as much and others did not match the sun and moon theme. Maybe I’ll do them later ...
I especially like the one where they have it on their finger rings. The designs are very minimalistics but the symbolism is beautiful.
And you ? What is your favorite one ? Which ideas does this concept inspire you ?

Could you do something where Nico and Will are out in the forest during capture the flag and someone walks in on/by them pleaseeeeeee?????
Solangelo Week 2k19: Day 6 – “Secret Powers / Super Powers” @solangeloweek
A/N:I’m soooo sorry how long it took me to write this! Just the typical business oflife plus trying to decide what I wanted to do with it. Here we are with somecool powers! (This ended up so much longer than expected)
Read on AO3 or FF.Net or Wattpad
“Will, this is the perfectopportunity.”
“But it’s not really tested! It could be dangerous!”
Capture the Flag was coming upand Will and Nico were both on the Red Team. Will recently unlocked some newlight-controlling powers that he, ironically, was working on controlling. Hefirst discovered it when he was really excited to take Nico out on a date. Hestood on the doorstep of Cabin 13 actually glowing, his freckles twinklinglike stars. Nico looked at him with awe for a total of 5 seconds before collapsingto the ground in laughter. Later that night, when Nico kissed Will goodnight, light shot out of Will’s hands like flashlights because of his surprise anddelight. Nico was once again doubled over in laughter as Will freaked out abouthow do you turn this damn thing off??
Needless to say, Will had beentraining with his powers whenever he could. He discovered that he couldconcentrate light in his hands and kind of throw it like a ball. If he concentratedhard enough, he could hold its shape until it hit something, at which pointWill released it and it became something like a flash grenade. He found his newpower cool not only because it could actually be used in a fight, but alsobecause it never really hurt people, only temporarily blinded them. He hadn’treally hit someone with his “ball of sunshine” as Nico dubbed it, afraid itwould be scorching hot or something.
“Okay, but what if I caught it?”Nico had posed his latest theory of how to utilize Will’s powers earlier thatday while training.
“Does ‘hot as the sun’ meannothing to you?” Will rolled his eyes as he shot individual rays out of hisfingertips. They were both taking a break on the side of the arena.
Nico hummed in thought. “But,like, if I had padding or something. Something so I wouldn’t touch it directly…you can catch your own light balls, right?”
“Well, I can hold it, so Iassume I can also catch it if it’s still in ball form.” Will turned aquestioning eye towards his boyfriend. “But it’s my own powers, so that makessense.”
Nico sat there for another 30seconds before suddenly standing up and moving to the other side of their trainingsection, near the wall. “Shine some light over here, to my right.”
He gave no other instructionor hint as to what he was doing, so Will did as he was told. He held his righthand out and shot a beam of light towards Nico, who stared at the ray for a fewmore seconds. Then, Nico swirled his arms around and gathered the shadows castby the wall, motioning upwards to create his own separate wall of shadows. Nico’sshadow-manipulation was improving every day, going as far as creating darknessout of nothing, but that required a lot of energy and concentration.
Nico pulled his shadow wallaway from the arena wall and towards Will, almost like he was trying to pushWill’s light back. He then ducked behind his wall, then popped his head backaround to look at Will.
“It’s blocking the light!” heshouted. “Your light can’t penetrate my shadows!”
Will was a little confused asto what Nico was trying to accomplish, but he guessed that was kind ofinteresting. He decided to test its limits. Will put both of his hands together, palms out, and pulsed harder, emitting a stronger, brighter ray of light. Theforce of it had Nico looking away for a moment, though his shadow wall stillheld. He condensed his wall, and it was honestly more than a little scary tosee a thick rectangle of pitch-blackness just hovering there. Nico againchecked behind his wall and looked back at Will with excitement in his eyes. “It’sgood!”
Will let his light go, hisarms feeling a bit tired after the training they had done beforehand. Nicodecided to jump into his shadow wall and pop out right next to Will. Lazylittle show-off.
“That was so cool! So, myshadows are stronger than your light beams,” he said with a mix of child-likewonder and smugness. Will didn’t know if it was cute or annoying.
“Yeah, and…?”
“So, I’m thinking,” Nico drewout as he plopped down once more on the ground. “If I can hold your light in ashadow, like wrap it up or something, it’d be concealed and way more useful. Also, if we used our powers together, it’d probably look pretty cool.” Nicoalways gestured with his hands when he was excited, sometimes accidentallystirring up the shadows around him in a way that seemed terrifying, but Willfound endearing.
“I don’t know if that’ll work…you mean like covering one of my light balls in shadows? How would that work?”
“Basically, it’s like theflash grenade thing that it already does, but stealthy. No one would see itcoming and then BAM light bomb.” Nico was grinning like a maniac at this point. Will was beginning to warm up to the idea as well when the dinner horn wentoff.
Will held his hand out toNico, who immediately grabbed it and pulled himself up. He was already frowningwhen Will said, “Guess we’ll have to try it next time.”
Then, of course, Capture the Flagwas announced, and Nico was determined to do the “dark flash” (Will wasimmediately against the name).
That evening, when strategywas set and the starting conch sounded, Will and Nico broke off to the rightside. Not many people knew about Will’s powers, but they knew that the two ofthem had great chemistry in battle as well as outside of it. The couple eitherproved to be an insistent distraction to the other team or no help at allbecause they were making out. Will preferred the latter, but Nico was on amission today.
“Okay, we’re far enough away fromthe other side still. Here,” he gathered a layer of shadows over his palms. “Makea small ball and put it here.”
Will cupped his hands togetherand concentrated. A soft glow emitted from his hands before it pulled togetherin the center, making a golf ball-sized ball of light. He moved his hands aboveNico’s, looking up at his eyes to be sure before gently dropping the ball ontothe shadow layer. The shadows stirred a bit, but otherwise remained fullyintact. As Nico showed no signs of pain, Will was pleased with how theirexperiment was going so far.
“Okay, now let’s see if this partworks.” Nico carefully brought his hands up around the ball, essentially layinghis shadows over it like he was covering it with a blanket. “Focus on holdingthat ball shape, even if you can’t see it,” Nico reminded as the light of theball was smothered by the darkness. Will nodded, watching as Nico held hisshadows in place and now held the ball in his hand. It would be almost indiscerniblein the darkness of the night if it weren’t for the contrast of Nico’s palehand.
“Woah,” Will breathed. Hecouldn’t believe this was actually working, though he didn’t know what to dowith it now.
Apparently, Nico did. The onlywarning he gave Will was a crooked grin before he chucked the ball as far as hecould towards enemy territory. “Release it now!”
Will was honestly so caughtoff guard that he would’ve released his control on it anyway. He had no idea whereit was, until there was a sudden burst of light about 30 yards to their front-left.Nico probably transported it with the shadows, whether purposefully oraccidentally out of excitement. He heard a few yells of surprise, before “Solace!”rang out, sounding like Cecil but an octave higher. He was one of the fewpeople who knew how Will and Nico were practicing using his new power.
Will was turning towards Nicoto comment, when suddenly hands were on the collar of his shirt, tugging himdown to meet Nico’s lips. The kiss was quick, Nico pulling back to exclaim, “Ohmy gods, that was so awesome. Your powers make you, like, 20 times hotter.”
Will couldn’t help the smilethat stretched his lips wide. “Are you saying I wasn’t hot before?” he saidlowly as he wound his hands around Nico’s waist.
Nico gazed up at him with redcheeks and smiling eyes. “Oh, you were. You can imagine how difficult my lifeis now with your new levels of hot.”
Will hummed. “Let me make iteasier.” He surged down to capture Nico’s lips once more, kissing with as muchheat as he could muster. Nico groaned into his mouth, and Will was lost. Suddenly,he was pressing Nico up against a tree, nearly lifting him up so that he couldkiss him better. Nico’s arms were looped around Will’s neck, simultaneouslypulling himself up and pulling Will down towards him.
Will forgot about the game, about his powers, about anything except Nico. Nico and his tender lips, softhair, muscular arms. His sweet voice, his tiny smile, his deep brown eyes. Willwas lost and had no desire to be found.
Of course, with both of theireyes closed, neither noticed that Will was glowing like a firefly in the night. They were too caught up in each other, without a care in the world.
“Get a room!” The arrow thatstuck with a thunk into the tree near their heads did catch theirattention. Will whirled around to see that Lou Ellen and a few Hermes kids hadsurrounded them.
“Louuuuu,” Will whined likethe child he was. “Can’t you see we’re in the middle of something?”
Lou Ellen snorted. “Uh, yeah,Will. Everyone can see that.” The other kids snickered, including the onedirectly behind Will.
He turned around to see Nicoshaking with suppressed laughter. He pouted at his boyfriend, “What?” Thatsimple question broke Nico, who burst out into giggles. His face was red, fromthe kissing or the laughter, Will wasn’t sure. The longer Nico laughed, themore confused Will became. “What is it?” Will asked again.
Nico kept laughing, butanswered, “Will… look down.”
And he did. And he was afreaking beacon. Will flushed in embarrassment, which made it worsebecause his cheeks were almost glowing red now. Because that’s exactlyhow his stupid powers worked.
Nico got his laughter under controljust enough to reach out and cup Will’s cherry red cheek. “Don’t worry, we canstill get out of this one,” he winked. Will already knew this was going to be adisaster.
Lou Ellen scoffed, signaling herteammates to move in and capture the lovebirds. “Yeah right, di Angelo. Justlet us tie you up so we can leave you idiots alone again. I don’t need to seeyou suck face anymore than I already do.”
Nico didn’t deign that with areply as he covertly pulled together a mass of shadows. He gave Will ameaningful look, which Will assumed meant do the light thing. He knew hehad to do it quickly, so he focused a lot of light into one spot right in frontof Nico.
“Wrap it and throw!” heshouted, and Nico did as he was told. Unfortunately, Will kind of forgot thathe had to hold his light together, so Nico ended up just throwing a bunch ofshadows at the other campers while Will blinded everyone in the vicinity, including himself.
Chiron decided that usingnewfound powers in a Capture the Flag match was a hazard from then on.

I.
The teams for capture the flag were on the move to the woods in clusters, whispering strategies to their teammates and trash talking their opponents. Will walked side by side with Chiron, having volunteered to sit out for the duration of the game and acting as medic instead, while Chiron acted as referee.
They’d made it to the edge of the woods before someone jogged up behind Will and grabbed his hand. Will’s head snapped down, and immediately broke out into a brilliant smile. “Nico!” He stopped in his tracks, dropping Nico’s hand, and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend. “When did you get back?”
“Just now,” Nico replied, and Will noticed the dark circles under Nico’s eyes when they pulled apart.
Will frowned, cupping Nico’s cheek and swiping his thumb under Nico’s eye. “You weren’t going to jump into this game, were you? Because you should definitely rest--”
“No, no,” Nico replied, lacing his fingers with Will’s and tugging lightly until Will continued to walk. “I just wanted to stay with you on the sidelines for a little while before I go take a nap.”
“Aww, you missed me, didn’t you?” Will teased, bumping Nico’s shoulder with his own.
Nico rolled his eyes, bumping him back. “Of course I did.”
They continued into the woods, Will’s smile bright enough to illuminate the shadows around them, before they stilled beside Chiron on the makeshift sideline of the capture the flag grounds.
Chiron cleared his throat to get their attention, then said, “Will, whenever you’re ready.”
“Yes, sir!” Will replied. He leaned toward Nico and pressed a kiss to the side of his head before whispering to him, “You’re going to want to cover your ears.”
Nico frowned, but released Will’s hand to cover his ears. Will seemed to be waiting for him to do so before he put his index finger and thumb between his lips, then let out a piercing whistle that hurt to hear even with his ears covered.
Nico lowered his hands slowly once the sound had stopped echoing around them. “Holy Hades, how did you do that?”
Will shrugged, reaching for Nico’s hand again. “It’s a gift.”
II.
Will refused to do any paperwork in the infirmary without his lucky pen. This usually wasn’t a problem seeing as all of his siblings - and Nico - knew that they should never touch this pen. However, not everyone knew that misplacing this specific pen would force Will to turn the entire infirmary upside down in search for it.
Nico was laying on the floor, looking under cabinets and desks and cots, though with the fading light of the setting sun, it was too dark for him to see through the shadows. He sat up off the floor and looked toward Will who had taken everything out of the nearest desk’s drawers to no avail.
“It’s too dark to see underneath anything,” Nico told him. “Is there a flashlight in here somewhere?”
Will hummed. “You could check the storage room.”
As Nico stood and left the room in search of a flashlight, Will rose from his spot at the desk, and took Nico’s place on the floor. He couldn’t see anything either due to the darkness, but with a flick of his wrist, Will pulled a beam of sunlight through the window, shining it directly under the cabinets, then the desks, then the cots, until he finally saw something underneath one of the beds. He reached underneath to the furthest corner of the cot, and his fingers grazed the smooth, familiar surface of his lucky pen. Will pulled it out with an, “Ah-ha!”
As he sat up, he saw Nico returning to the room with a flashlight in his hand, stopping in his tracks when he saw Will with the pen in his hand. “How did you find it?”
“Luck, of course,” Will told him. “It’s my lucky pen!”
III.
Nico sat down at the Apollo table for dinner, knowing that Will wasn’t far behind. Once he finally arrived, Will had to sit across from Nico because it was the only available seat. Unfortunately, it meant that they couldn’t hold hands under the table like usual, but Will hooked his foot around Nico’s ankle to make up for the lack of contact.
They tried to join in on the conversations going on at the table, though for the most part the two preferred a comfortable quiet while they enjoyed their meals. During a lull in conversation, Nico caught Will trying to stifle a laugh, and nudged his foot with his own. Will looked up at him with a smile that was still fighting off laughter, and Nico noticed that his eyes appeared to be glowing green.
Nico frowned. “What’s going on?”
Will shook his head, and when he finally stilled again, his eyes were back to their beautiful bright blue. “It’s nothing.”
“Will.”
He rolled his eyes fondly and tipped his head to the left as though he was pointing toward the walkway between tables. “That Hephaestus kid is about to trip.”
Nico glanced over in a hopefully-subtle way, and his eyes locked on a newer camper who had an untied shoe. Nico turned back to Will and cocked his head in confusion. “I mean, probably, since his shoe is untied.”
“That’s not what I mean,” Will replied, and so Nico turned his attention back to the new camper. He watched as the camper knelt down to tie his shoe, then stood up and proceeded to trip over nothing and fall flat on his face.
Nico looked back to Will to see him hiding his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking to show that he was still laughing. He kicked at Will under the table. “How did you know that would happen?”
Will dropped his hands and winked. “I had a feeling.”
IV.
Nico searched the entire camp before he finally found Will at the archery range - Nico had never seen Will there before, which was why it ended up being the last place he checked. As he approached, he saw that Will wasn’t actually practicing his archery, instead throwing knives at the target across the range.
Every time, he hit the bullseye.
Will noticed him approaching and stopped throwing once Nico came close, instead wrapping an arm around his boyfriend and pressing a kiss to his forehead. “Hey, babe, what are you doing around here?”
“Teach me how to do that,” Nico replied rather than answering.
“What? Throw knives?” Will asked, and Nico nodded. “Alright, come here. Take this.” He handed Nico one of the knives and moved him until he was standing in the place from which Will had just moved. Will shifted Nico’s feet into the correct stance with his own, and set one hand on his waist as the other wrapped around Nico’s throwing hand. “It’s almost like throwing a dart. Just pull back, throw, and flick your wrist to give it a good spin.”
Will helped with his first throw, resting his chin on Nico’s shoulder as he guided Nico’s hand to throw, and the knife bounced off the bottom edge of the target. Will handed him another knife then stepped away, saying, “Now try on your own.”
Nico raised his arm and threw the knife, though it fell short of the target by about a foot. From behind him, Will picked up another knife and threw it - his aim was completely off, even Nico could tell that much, yet it still hit the target dead-on.
“You’re cheating!” Nico exclaimed, spinning around to shove at Will’s chest.
Will laughed. “How am I cheating? I’m just throwing.”
“I don’t know, but you are! It curved! That’s not possible!”
Will set his hands on Nico’s waist and turned him back around. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. It just takes practice.” He handed Nico another knife. “Here, try again.”
V.
The infirmary flooded with injured campers after an argument in the arena led to a full-on fight. As the fight was broken up, campers were escorted to the infirmary, where Nico was responsible for directing them to open beds while the Apollo campers did any possible healing.
While Nico was trying to find an open bed, the argument resurfaced between the two that had started the fight. Before Nico could get between them, he saw Will approach them and drop a hand onto their shoulders to push them apart while also holding them in place with his grip. “Stop shouting,” he said, voice booming and silencing the room around them, “and sit down. There’s no arguing in my infirmary.”
Without another word, both campers dropped into the nearest seats, appearing as though they’d never argued at all. Will started to walk away, though Nico caught him before he left the room. “What was that? How did you do that? It’s like you charmspoke them or something!”
Will gave him a tired smile. “No, I just have that effect on people.”
+I
Nico was helping Will patch up a pretty nasty wound in the infirmary when Nyssa came knocking on the open doorway.
“Hey, Will, Nico,” she greeted. “I just came to check on Jake. How are things going in here?”
“Oh, I’m great,” Jake replied, at the same time that Will said, “Things could be better.”
“But we’ve got it under control,” Nico said quickly. “Will knows what he’s doing.”
“Oh, I know he does,” Nyssa said, and patted Will gently on the shoulder. “We all really appreciate how hard you work here. I know you aren’t that great of a fighter, and your powers aren’t all that useful in a battle, but you really are an incredibly talented healer, and I think that’s amazing.”
She turned to leave, but Nico felt ready to jump out of his seat, prepared to throw down and defend his boyfriend when Will tapped the toe of Nico’s shoe with his own. “Don’t worry about it, she can think whatever she wants. You and I both know the truth that I could probably even take you out in a fight if I wanted to.”
Nico huffed, still glaring at the now-empty doorway. “Yeah, I guess so… Wait, what?”
