Considering the cross section of people who want ao3 to have an algorithm with the painful lack of reading comprehension you see so often on the internet and it occurs to me that part of being able to use a website like ao3 the way it’s intended requires you to… know your own taste.

In order to input the correct filters to find what you’re after, you have to have some sense of what you like and what you don’t like and how those things are described in tags and categories that you can filter on. You have to have the ability to take a fic and parse out which pieces of it you responded to and then figure out how to get more of it. You are, with the aid of a filter system as fantastic as ao3’s, actually more effective than an algorithm at doing that once you know how! You know that the reason you liked this fic was because of the really gooey cuddle scene between A/B, so you know that now you should go look in tags like “Cuddling” or “Hugs” or “Comfort” or “Fluff” or “only one bed + Rated T”. An algorithm can’t tell if you liked the gooey cuddle scene or the fact that it was a steampunk AU or this specific author’s style, it can only make statistical guesses at the fact that a lot of people who liked THIS fic also liked THAT one. It doesn’t know WHY.

But like… that is a skill. It may be a very intuitive skill, especially for people who have been doing it a long time, but if you’re accustomed to being spoonfed suggestions I can guess it wouldn’t be intuitive at all. I can absolutely see how needing to search for your own preferences would stump you if you’ve never had to do it before.

And it is very much an exercise in both literacy and understanding your own taste. If you don’t bother to paint things you read or watch with any more nuanced brush than “I like this” or “I don’t like this”, then you never learn what, exactly, it is that you’re liking or disliking. You’ll never be able to pull a text apart to figure out which strands are compelling and which you could do without. You’ll never be able to tell the difference between what is a generally well-written story and what is tugging at something that you specifically enjoy. Especially in the climate of judging media by its moral correctness, where dislike and especially disgust gets equated to “there is something objectively BadWrong with this art and therefore NO ONE should like ANY part of it,” people are increasingly encouraged to sand away any understanding of their own personal tastes.

Knowing your own taste can be scary. Very seriously, it can be hard to look at yourself and reconcile all the weird, cringe, taboo, silly, gross, embarrassing, or fucked-up stories you might like. It can be easier to just go along with what other people tell you is good or bad, particularly when there is as much pressure as there can be in online spaces—both inadvertent and intentional.

But I promise, I absolutely promise, knowing your taste is the best and fastest way to find more art that you love. Figuring out what it is you like is the route to finding more of it, to finding art that resonates with you, art that bring you joy. Figuring out why you like it can be interesting, but that can be an even bigger and more fraught question to consider. You don’t have to understand the why. Just start with the what. It will unlock so many doors for you.

You didn’t do it often, so it definitely was a lot more complicated than it should’ve been. You had to make sure you followed the instructions right and added just the right amount of each ingredient.

Your boyfriend, William Afton, was out. You didn’t have a reason to really make anything for him, you just wanted to. So, you decided to make some chocolate chip cookies.

It was going smoothly. You added all the ingredients correctly, you made sure the batter was stirred right and now you were shaping them into hearts! It was so cute, surely your boyfriend would love them.

Then, the actual baking process came. You had set each of the little heart dough cookies into the plate. You didn’t need the instructions for this, it was obvious on what to do next.

So, you put the plate in the microwave, set the timer, let them sit and left the kitchen, content with what you finished.

You couldn’t wait for the cookies to be done! You knew William had a sweet tooth, especially for cookies and brownies. It was funny, you wouldn’t expect a man like him to really like sweets all that much, but he truly enjoyed them.

As you continued to think of how much William would love the sweets, you suddenly smelt something burning. You paused, sniffing, and furrowing your eyebrows, before sniffing again. It wasn’t until the fire alarm went off that you realized the microwave was on fire.

You let out a small, “oh”, shrugging your shoulders. “..I wanted them to be ready before you got here, so I thought the microwave would be quicker than the oven.” You explained, glancing at the microwave. It would be a miracle if it continued to work..

“Ah, well.” William hums, “Why don’t we cook some together? And this time we use the oven?” He teased, which made you grumble and blush. “..Okay.”

The rest of the day was spent making cookies and cleaning up the mess you made. You learnt your lesson and would make sure to never use the microwave for cookies ever again..

What do you think of the sequel of twewy then? You talk a lot about the original but I'm interested in your opinion of the second part because I saw a few fans disappointed :o

OKAY. Omg.

So first of all? Soundtrack? SLAPS. We won. We won with the sequel soundtrack. I actually prefer some of the new remixes to the original!

The artwork? Stuck to the original style. Can’t complain at all. The new designs? PEAK. They’re so cool. There’s new shopkeepers- who look AWESOME- who have LORE. We can access NPC LORE. I read about one who is married to one of the players? Catch me eating popcorn at that story.

Shout out to the sprites you get when you’re feeding your party members? They’re so cute. In original TWEWY we just had a voice telling us if they liked it after I’ve fed them. NOW we get to know via their face going 🤢 or 🥺 BEFORE they eat so I can give them something they definelty like! and I think that’s fun and funky fresh.

Gameplay? Fantastic. Absolutely brilliant. - the original game had a switch port and honestly? I really think they should’ve done better with the controls. What worked and was beautiful for the ds- felt very clunky on the switch. Especially when playing console? I mean what in the Wii controller buLLSHIT. I need my attacks ACCURATE and on tv that’s very very hard. My friend managed it but? Maybe I just need to get good LSLGFSPALDL. But NEO twewy? beautiful. Perfect. Great for the switch. no complaints on the new battle system.

The story:

edit: THE HUMOUR IS THERE. I FORGOR. I forgot how fucking funny it is. The amount of screenshots I have? Hilarious. Not any like quotable moments like there is in the original game. But there’s so much silly billy shit going on. Bunch of CLOWNS I swear.

Its messaging is not driven home as much as the original twewy is. Like my friend had to explain to me what they were doing because it’s very very subtle. The characters are changing but only just a little. -unlike the first game which, like? At the end of the game? These guys are CLEARLY not the same people who entered the game!! These are Zuko ATLA level transformations!!!: whereas Neo twewy game says? Hey. Your actions are kinda sucky bro. Ever thought about changing up your style? Like it’s THERE. But it’s clearly not the CORE of the game like the first one. And that’s where it falls flat FOR ME. I LOVE and ADORE character development and it’s just not the focus of NEO twewy. But that doesn’t mean I hated the game. I just don’t prefer it over the original.

What NEO twewy DOES focus on is world building which. I think they’ve made some super cool and interesting choices. Even if I, and many Joshua kiryu fans don’t agree with them. 💛 we just straight up ignore the new lore because we don’t like it- the one around Joshua anyway. They bring in some new reapers and some new plot line surrounding shinjuku. That’s fine. That’s fun. But. Joshua? MY MAN? No square enix, you don’t know my blorbo of 10 years better than me :))

So. In conclusion. I was not DISAPPOINTED. I just think they lost the core of what twewy meant to people for the sake of focusing on the new details theyve added. I think rindo and fret and nagi deserved better development.

ALSO IDK HOW I FEEL ABOUT TEAMS? I MISS PARTNERS. LIKE TEAMS IS FINE I GUESS BUT. PARTNER WAS SPECIAL.

Okokok real conclusion is that I was not disappointed. I had fun. I loved a lot about this game. But the original hit home so hard, and the sequel was just a good game.

OKAY so there’s a lot of characters in dc but the ones I draw/talk about the most are these group of friends!! They feature in Young Justice 1998, Teen Titans 2003, and Young Justice 2019, as well as having their own comics and other appearances :)

each comic run has different vibes but my personal favorite is yj1998 bc I like its wacky and zany vibes. It was not my first comic though, and it’s a little older so it might be hard to understand or read if it’s your first time reading comics like this, and again it is old soooo some stuff does Not age well such as certain jokes or depictions and it is of course not all perfect but overall I love it and think it has a lot of heart

I think i have a lot of fun with it bc it feels so…animated? And it has funny slapstick humor. Honestly I probably like it bc it makes me laugh the same way ninjago makes me laugh…a group of 4+ friends that have cute dynamics with each other and just Being Silly Together. I really don’t know how to explain it but between all three runs, I can see yj1998 in my head the most as a wacky animated show with exaggerated bouncy animation idk so that’s part of the fun for me. I think the moment I realized this was going to be a long term emotional investment was When I read the issue where they randomly end up on a planet and have to play baseball bc I am a SUCKERRR for baseball shenanigans

But yeah the group starts out with Bart, Tim, and Kon in JLA: A world without Grownups, and they just have a good trio dynamic 🙏 the banter between all three is so good 🤩and I liked seeing their friendship develop throughout yj1998 too! Especially for Tim, with his hesitancy at the beginning.They weren’t without conflict ofc but that adds to why I like them bc eventually they became besties for life. They are also quickly joined by others but the main one that stays w the group through all three runs is Cassie Sandsmark , aka Wonder Girl ii.

But yeah I guess some things I like are the way they actually Hang out? like they will do camping trips or go to the mall and games together etc etc, but there will be parts that feel more serious while never losing that humorous tint to it. For some examples, I love how Tim tries to be a leader in the beginning, but then one arc shows just how much Cassie is more fitting for it, and how they bond over Leader things like how hard it is to tell Bart what to do and then will share a really nice hug 🥺, and I love Cassie and Cissie’s relationship a LOT because they sometimes misunderstand each other but clearly care for each other (they aren’t canon but in my heart they are.) I also like Tim and kon’s build towards understanding and friendship for a similar reason, and cissie and Anita also have a nice development with each other, but yeah all the dynamics are just fun to think about tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am pointing at them eagerly and going “wow! Friendship!!”

And as for the guy I never shut up about…well that’s a whole thing I could ramble about but i became obsessed with him the moment he quoted Peter Pan while lamenting about how he was afraid his friends would leave him behind after several issues of him acting like Hot Shit and erm I’m predictable so it got to me 🙄 also he makes dumb jokes every second like he expects someone to laugh at them like he’s so dumb sometimes….anyways I do not want to ramble too much so I will get on with it

I was only familiar with his black tshirt look before, so when I first saw this goofy looking dumbass with a leather jacket and glasses and an earring I WAS LIKE “THATS SUPERBOY? THATS REAL?” and quickly became interested in the notion of a Superman associated hero wearing something like this bc I don’t think my brain ever considered the possibility before….also it is something I cannot explain some panels just activate my cuteness aggression 😔 I just think he’s really cute 🫶🫶🫶

Oh boy I’m gonna take this opportunity to rant about them.

Nine Juice rant below, read at your own risk.

I’m thinking about them so often…. ITS LIKE!!! I can totally understand people seeing them as only platonic!! And I’ve always actually felt kinda nervous to ship them for some reason… the 17776 enjoyers haven’t been much to do shipping, especially since romance is not really the point of the story, at all. but I just really believe they have a bond that just, is a lot.

There is a level of understanding and compassion that Juice shows to Nine in his own ways, he knows exactly how to help Nine cope after the intermission, he knows what they’re thinking when their communications fuck up. (Nine was indeed cussing him out, they said “fuck you.”) He is teasing as always, but not hesitant to reassure them afterwards.

Nine is very observant. They make note of Juices usage of grammar, how he capitalizes thing that are important to him. I can’t remember exactly which chapter that’s in, but I’m like 100% sure Nine pointed this out. Obviously, Nines name is almost always capitalized . This is a notable exception

Has he EVER used this many exclamation points?!

I also love the way the infodump to each other. Ten by this point has heard Juices rants a billion times before, she loves him, but is sick of them! Of course he sees no problem in that. But then suddenly there’s a new listener who is intensely eager and interested in what he has to say! It feels special, because Nine never seems to get bored of it. They love to hear him talk, about anything really, but especially what he’s passionate about. -

Which is mostly football. Football is how he processes the world. With sports and all the things that come with it he was able to come to terms with reality. He looks at it through such a unique lense in order to make sense of it all. Even his own football game is not just insane rules strung together all willy nilly, it’s truly a work of art with a deeper meaning. It’s like he’s painting with the fields, you know?

Nine understands this, and if they don’t, they WANT to. In my mind, Juices voice and rambles about lunchables or whatever start off confusing to them, but once they understand where it comes from and why and what Juice is trying to attempt with all this, they understand a lot.

Nine copes with history, they look into the past for comfort and familiarity. they feel so intensely behind, at first it started as a way to catch up and feel up to date with their friends, but then they discovered that the history of this world was just sort of a safe space for them. Juice loves to hear Nine talk about stuff even he never knew about. Nine is quite the researcher, and is always able to pull up SOMETHING. He is too, but not to this level. They share facts and information back and forth, intently listening to each other and trying to understand. Always.

Juice knows what Nines going through, it’s quite obvious with what he says here.

They ground each other in this reality, they give each other a person to talk about football with. Someone to try and not think about things too hard with. And then when things DO get hard? And the thoughts are too much? They’ll always be there for each other to help.

An underrated aspect about Juices character is how intelligent he is. SURE, he spends a lot of time joking around, that’s just his thing!!! But he is by no means stupid, he’s a little silly, but so so much more than that. He also cares, a lot! He is lonely, he loves his friends so dearly although he doesn’t express it nearly as much as Nine.

Nine is also a lot more than their troubles. A lot of their arc has to do with coming to terms with the state of existence, but they’re also incredibly compassionate and loving. SO SO loving. They’re blindly trusting, showing no hesitation with their love for everyone. They’re observant, and also a bit of a jokerster! They got that from Juice.

I don’t know where I’m going with this, I just really like the two of them, I love their dynamic. I feel like if they could, they would hug for a real long time. Unfortunately they’re way too far apart and made of nuts and bolts. But they still love each other, nothing changes that, not in a billion years

Big Post of some of my bushmedicine headcanons... hehee... my personal thoughts on medic and sniper as a couple, my favorite dynamics, etc!

starting it off by saying that i think this ship works best when its post-comics. i like the idea of the two of them Knowing each other as teammates (but not really Friends), and then sniper's revival being the Strange Insane Catalyst that.. "brings them together".

that said i don't think medic loves sniper Solely because he's his greatest achievement; him Defying Modern Medicine for sniper (of all people) was definitely Not something either of them expected! medic has always held appreciation for sniper as a teammate and respects his craft

but didn't really come to appreciate him as a Person until after the gray mann stuff. because they’re both workaholics it was hard for them to really ‘get to know’ each other. both value the other as teammates but simply never thought of getting any closer.

i think it would take Effort on both of their parts to “get the ball rolling” in terms of talking to one another a bit more personally. they’re socially very different after all! but i think they'd both be Pleasantly Surprised that they find each other very Easy to be around!

and, no, i do not think sniper is “afraid” of medic or what he does. sniper’s been around gore and death for as long as he’s been alive and willingly volunteered to get the uber implant! i think it would be more likely that he’d ask medic to give him gills or claws before he’d be running away screaming in fear lol. but that’s just me!

love to think of them both as Weird Only Children but on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. sniper is shut in and felt Both smothered And abandoned by his parents. medic is Just A Hellion and always has been. doesn't feel one Dramatic way or another for/about his parents and that's that! i think medic loves/d his family but just thought it was like... Funny that they ever tried to Contain him! medic is Sympathetic sniper's complicated family issues but can't Relate. his family was Very Direct, just like him! LOL

they have very different energy, but i don’t see that as a flaw or a bad thing, nor do i see either of them seeking to change the other. sniper likes that medic loves to babble and medic likes that sniper is quiet and likes to listen!

at first i think both of them would struggle to read one another, since they are So different! but medic and sniper love to learn things, especially(/sometimes Only) if they’re interested in the person they’re learning from!

part of what makes this ship so charming to me is that they aren’t like. love at first sight, or second sight, or third sight… they’re two people that Saw A Spark in each other and work at their relationship! it makes them feel very Real to me!

medic knows sniper’s body really.. intimately. before they started dating he knew it of course as the team’s doctor, but when they got together… it’s like exploring something that’s been right in front of you the whole time… for the first time…

which excites medic because i think he’d be like “hooh! all of this in front of me this whole time and i didn’t even think to-!” and he leans down and kisses sniper’s scars which makes sniper soooo……………………ummm………………h*rny………. i mean……………….. Silly!

that said i think they also have had Aesthetic Appreciation for one another and/or would be like “yeah i’d absolutely **** him if i got the chance but i’ll just leave it at a fantasy” but as far as wanting to Date or Become More… that’s super new for both of them…

sniper hates/fears commitment and medic just never really enjoyed the idea of Entertaining any Romantic Connections long-term (work comes first for both of them!) but once medic is invested he’s like “if you don’t ask me out by letting me take a nap in your ribcage then forget it”… he loves the Passion!! he wants to know his partner is just as Devoted to him as he is to him!! and sniper is Very Passionate and has a lot of love to Give! once you get him to confess that hehe… but i think medic enjoys “the chase” and thinks of it like a fun game!! he likes that it's Only Him that elicits Those Feelings/Reactions in sniper... it makes him feel Special!

imo they’re the perfect delicious physical manifestation of their work (sniper is medic’s greatest achievement! and medic saved his life!).. so they’re both just woven into so many different parts of them that when they Finally come together they’re just… One…

i don’t think sniper is/was traumatized by his death. i think he’s someone who knew/accepted death and that it could come for him at any time, so he’s never been afraid of dying. but i don’t think anyone could be prepared for being Revived…

and i think sniper is always saddled with Complicated Feelings of Being Worthy of/Deserving Things. he was raised to live humbly and appreciate what he had, so anything “extravagant” (by his standards) being done for him always leaves him kind of Perplexed. feels like he has to Earn something to Deserve it, even when it comes to feeling things. “i can’t feel bad/mad/sad/glad/etc if i don’t have a Reason”. feelings should be put into categories and Understood for him. he’s very “in his head” about every single little thing! which is why he clings to the Ideal of “professionalism”!

whereas medic very freely feels and says and does whatever the fuck he wants because thats how He was raised. he doesn’t think he should smother himself for anyone for any reason and if you imply that he should he’ll knock you in the mouth LOL.

“aren’t you tired of being professional? don’t you want to go apenshitten?” medic trying to encourage sniper to have Fun and Live A Little! and sniper can’t really resist medic’s charisma and Charm… hehee… its fun to think about sniper being wrapped up in being Professional and medic being like “we’re being professional, we’re Doing our Professions! who says we can’t also have FUN with it!” (medic is being Sadistic about it whereas thats Against sniper’s Beliefs) and that makes sniper laugh and shake his head and smile…

i believe that sniper is the more emotionally-immature one. not in touch with his feelings whatsoever and is more prone to “breaking down” (usually isolating but sometimes Lashing Out). medic is impulsive but has great self control (Only when he wants to!) and is Very in touch with his own feelings at all times.

sniper sees his job as A Job. a Duty a Task Things He Is Contractually Obligated to do. but medic sees it as a total wildcard playing field where he's constantly testing the limits to see what he can get away with, what he can do and how much fun he can have!

at first sniper is taken aback/a bit overwhelmed by medic’s In Your Face demeanor but comes to really love it. he likes that medic doesn’t mince words or play mind games (when it really counts, anyway) and he can rely on the doctor to mean what he says when he says it. he hates having to “decode” people!

medic typically doesn’t bother with trying to “decode” people, but he’s patient with sniper and his lack of communication know-how/willingness. sometimes sniper can be very stubborn! but medic just giggles and sits with him and is like “i could sit here all day! >:) so take all the time you need!” and sniper’s never had anyone Actually Willing to Sit Here All Day for him so medic’s love for “a challenge” becomes something really endearing to him… and he doesn’t feel like a Burden or a Challenge to his doctor…!

petnames!! if you’ve read my fics you already know of sniper calling medic dovey, and medic calling sniper spatz/spatzchen, which means “sparrow”, because house sparrow face markings remind medic of sniper’s sideburns! i also love the idea of sniper calling medic his plover and medic calling sniper his krokodil, like the symbiotic relationship of the bird that hangs out in the mouth of crocodiles!

sniper also calls medic pidge/pigeon, or nurse too! if they’re alone, sniper will pepper in a “-darling, -sweetness, etc” after the petname of choice! medic loves cooing at sniper and really laying the petnames on thick, and while sniper still isn’t As Bold as medic in public, in private he loves smothering medic right back! hehe

“you gonna behave yourself out there today?” <- sniper says things like this before they Fight and it makes medic giggle and shake his head and be like “ABSOLUTELY NOT! >:)” and sniper chuckles and is like “mhmm… ://)”.. sniper also calls medic Death or RED Death, whispering it low in his ear before they go into combat… and it makes medic shoot through the roof with heart eyes like in loony tunes…. his mind is NOT on medicine for the rest of the match! hehe!

medic knows sniper doesn’t like drawing attention to himself in public, so he does his best to be respectful of that. they both like keeping things Professional in combat, but sometimes medic will scoop sniper up clean off his feet and spin around before putting him down with a shrill laugh if he just had a particularly exciting kill. sniper loves medic’s excited outbursts of energy and it always leaves him wobbly-legged and breathless!

sniper’s friends (demo, engie, scout) love breaking sniper’s balls about dating/being in love. they’ll tease the crap out of him and make him light up red with fluster because ha ha! Stoic Professional Turned Loverboy! medic’s friends (spy, heavy, pyro) have much more insightful talks about their relationship and give medic advice (or listen to medic gush about how cute he thinks sniper is)!

both bond over medicine… obviously! sniper is a survivalist and therefore extremely resourceful and medic eats up all of his advice and wisdom! he also loves listening to sniper talk about his days as a hunter before he came to mann co. the one where he slept in the corpse of a water buffalo is medic’s favorite!

they also love talking about exotic animals (medic is very curious and sniper is very knowledgeable), jazz/classical music, botany and nonfiction literature! they’re not Literary Buffs like spy and heavy, but they enjoy learning new things and like to read things they can put down and pick up again a week later.

they’re both very touchy-feely! in public they’re a bit more reserved but sniper will still hook his finger in one of medic’s belt straps and pull him close to him, or medic will slip his hand into sniper’s back pocket (and squeeze his butt just to fluster him! hoo!)

sniper is absolutely the earlier riser and is very Routine Based. medic makes his own schedule and if you don’t like it you can ***. if he knows medic had a late night, he’ll go and feed his doves and put a pot of coffee on for him and leave a shirt of his next to him in bed so medic can wake up smelling him!

they love cooking for/sharing food with each other; often nothing too fancy, but something as simple as peeling an orange and sharing it is as intimate as a kiss… they’re both guilty of getting too wrapped up in their work to remember to eat, so one will often remember when the other doesn’t! plus, eating together accomplishes two things: spending time together and eating, so they both enjoy the Double Productivity of it!

i do not think sniper stinks like pee or keeps jarate in his van and i’ve talked about that in the thread i made for him specifically BUT anyway. i think they’re both Very Hygienic people who also love getting their hands dirty. they love a good sweat session on the field (or.. alone… elsewhere… hehee <3) and love the Smell of each other.

they love being silly! medic tends to bring this out in sniper and he might have thought it was originally Cringe but medic has shown him how to be silly and fun-loving and full of whimsy! they play chase (medic will pinch sniper’s butt and take off running and howling with laughter and sniper will snicker and Eagerly Pursue) and hide and seek, which is their favorite… medic loves seeing sniper in action and showing off his skills that aren’t Just sniping! tracking, Hunting… and of course, he loves being the thing he’s Hunting >:)! its a very fun flirtatious game for them!

another merc being like “where’s sniper?” medic giggling and being like “hoo! <v< hoh! >v> i don’t know!! isn’t that exciting!! ehee hee! ^v^” and the other mercs being like :|? KSDKFDSF.. i think they’re very Weird and Cringe and Free as a couple and while the other mercs might not Get Them they are happy for their friends :)

sniper is very quiet and medic is often easy to sneak up on (sniper likes to do so >:)) and when medic tries sneaking up on sniper (he is not as good at it….) sometimes sniper will be like “aht aht. heard you comin’ five miles away!” or he’ll be like “GASP!! awh you got me. you sneaky thing!” just because he likes to see his pretty dovey win ://)

sniper's "gotta make a necklace outta your teeth" line. medic hears him say it on the field and is like "wait. do you really do that?" and sniper's like “y’wanna find out?" and medic's like ">//u//< JA!" sniper surprises him with a necklace of human teeth... fit for a king <3

we know medic is Weird but i also like to imagine sniper being Weird too. he and medic are putting their hands in the dirt finding worms bugs snakes etc.. sniper giving medic bird heart pendants and snake venom etc etc.. medic's like "ohh hee hee! we are married now i think! ^v^"

Hi, i love your photos are you planning in play some of the upcoming life sim and take photos too or you are not interested in them? Also what do you thing of them? Do you thing they will be good?

I plan to play them, yes. I’ve been waiting for a lifesim from another developer for some time now, as I know a lot of others probably are. Though as for whether I think they’ll be good, it’s hard to tell. I know a lot of people are quite frustrated with where The Sims series is going lately, and I can’t blame them, I’ve certainly felt a lot of that frustration myself these last four years, but luckily I can still play The Sims 3 which I’ve really fallen in love with again, and helped me realize that I don’t actually need another Sims!

I’m convinced that nothing will ever replace the experiences I had with The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3, including a few other spin offs, and even the first six or so years of The Sims 4 all offered me a pretty good amount of fun in their own special ways.

I don’t wanna replace them, esp when I can just go back and play them if I want that experience again, well maybe except TS4, but hopefully modders will fix it when EA gives up on it.

I guess what I’m saying is, I’m excited about these games, especially Paralives, but not because I need it to replace something else, and not bc I don’t think it can, but bc I want a new and fresh experience on a genre that has a lot of room for new interpretations. Paralives is giving me cozy vibes so far, a far cry from the silly chaos common in The Sims, which is gr8, bc I love cozy games, and I feel like it’d fit well in a lifesim since a lot of its player base meanders between games of this sort anyway.

Regarding the other two ( Life By You and Inzoi ), it’s kinda hard to know what to think about them atm, and I feel about the same for Project Rene, bc their devs and publishers don’t quite have the best reputations with players. Perhaps when they have something more solid to show, and prove they’re actually as passionate and devoted in delivering something that is as fun, as it is profitable, I can better make up my mind.

i’m so glad this season is described as “just vibes” with less spiderwebbing plot-lines. the only part of GO i was interested in (and this might just be my Gay Agenda talking) was crowley and aziraphale. i had little interest in any of the other characters just because the relationship between those guys and actors was so strong and well crafted; it made anything else seem mundane. i skip through the whole adam and anathema and witchfinder arcs during rewatches just because they’re not all that interesting; not in comparison.

i’m so excited for this season because they Know what we want as fans and are willing to put it to screen. and personally i can’t wait to see michael and david explore intimacy in a way that we not only didn’t expect (queer media trauma is real folks) but also just assumed we’d never actually get. most people were used to the bare ass minimum until indisputable and thoughtful queer media started coming out.

this sounds so cheesy but it shaped me into a better person, getting to see queer people be intimate on screen. it normalized something i’ve been trying to manifest my entire conscious life (no literally) through fan works and especially fan fiction.

additionally hollywood loves thin and traditionally attractive people. ofmd and good omens have totally turned that on its head and i feel like there’s a greater appreciation and acceptance of normal bodies being represented on screen. this is just speculation but i suspect michael sheen and rhys darby specifically never had a fandom advocate so hard for them at such a life stage. and i feel really happy that they do get to experience that as a demographic (older people) that often gets told that they lose their value because they’ve aged, and thus become less marketable.

you see this when people draw the boys all skinny and hot and young; something i’m not gonna write to the president about but it’s clear that people depicting them to fit the hollywood standard is a reflection of their own perception of beauty. so i don’t care for all this talk about “oh that outfit is so ugly!” or “his beard is weird” because LMAO my outfits have been ugly! if i had a beard, i would make questionable fashion choices! (personally i love crowley’s looks, they’re goofy and fun and fit the vibe of the show, i think it’s pointless even arguing about their personal aesthetics so long as they fit the context and their characters. david tennant can’t always be a smoking hot twink, guys. let him be silly and goofy for my heart’s sake please).

i guarantee if crowley and aziraphale end up kissing and it’s not the most Perfect queer standard camera angle, folks are gonna complain about it, because everyone on screen must be Pretty and Profitable but also Realistic and Relatable. bit of a double standard, no?

that’s why i love that david and michael get to be praised for their physical appearances and i’m no middle aged man but it feels like a door has opened in a way? in myself via the barriers of insecurity and dysmorphia, as well as in some widening sectors of queer society, because it shows that nontraditionally attractive queer people (aka people without abs or a perfect jawline, aka me lol) are fully capable of loving and being loved and being HAPPY and accepted. it makes me so so so joyous. anyway there’s my rant; y’all know i ain’t sleeping till s2 drops tomorrow. i’m HYPED!!!

hello mcsm community. this is a repost of a long ass twitter thread i made so i apologize in advance if its formatted weird (and sort of disorganized). but heres some of my Thoughts and analysis on radar. i have much more to say than just this of course but HERE WE GO! radar insaneposting tumblr edition. long post incoming (i worked very hard on this)

ANYWAYS!

- he idolizes the new order and puts them on a pedestal above himself a bit. i mean from some dialogue it's clear he doesn't have the highest opinion of himself but he treats the new order smiliarly to how they felt about the old order in thw wither storm arc

- i have mentioned this several times but the "prison radar" thing definitely comes across to me as him trying to overcompensate (and mimic those he sees as "strong" like petra and jack) sort of. like if you contextualise it with how a lot of the characters called him weak an episode prior and it definitely seemed to have an impact on him its like. yeah. especially being thrown into a situation like w/ the sunshine institute and the whole iron breathtaker thing that has Got to fuck you up. idk i jusy see a lot of people take that at face value like "oh look he's being silly" when it comes across to me as more like insecurity ig?

- hes so autism its unreal

but yeah the whole thing kinda fucks him up

ig the only thing thay kinda bothers me is that arc doesnt feel finished. and also jesse can ENCOURAGW him to act like someone hes not??? OH AND. id like to point out this thing also involves him trying to break his own strict patterns which is p interesting to me. by this i mean the "disregard my bedtime! break whatever rules I feel like! within reason!" he seems to feel that in order to become stronf he has to be like. less caring of the rules w/e but the "within reason" line and the fact that he dislikes things being disorganized still is like. he doesnt Want to act like this. he doesnt seem to like thag but he feels iys the only way he can be strong and adapt to such a lifethreatening situation (to act like someone he clearly isnt)

another point id like to make is his relationship with Stella. it isnt really explored past this one scene in episode 2 of s2 but god there's a lot to unpack here

"you'll never change" - has stella... always been like this? even when radar worked under her (which HAS to be at least a year before s2 bc apparently he's been working for jesse for about a year)

also she calls him a "quitter" which. 1. has a negative connotation meaning that she Does Not Approve of him leaving 2. implies he quit of his own accord. this isn't normal former boss/former employee interaction though something definitely happened. like theyre both Weirdly Hostile and this is never brought up again....... ehat happened.

also "he doesn't even know how to use a sword" this part stuck out to me but Considering this thing i noticed a few months ago about how the mcsm world is very. survival oriented and people who can slay powerful monsters (i.e. old order) are looked at with high respect. so basically she's calling him weak here which is. Huh. also "you don't know anything" girl what happened.... why does radar feel he has to prove himself like that...

"id be careful about counting on him for anything" what did she mean by this. did radar fuck up in some way unintentionally and it pissed stella off or something??? because something clearly happened and im very sad this is never explored further bc this is a fucking interesting plot point.

also. the last image...... this is so fucking interesting regarding radar as a character because it does actually provide context for the whole prison radar thing. like holy shit this says a lot. the first line kinda shows his insecurity already. he's aware people don't believe in him and think he's weak and a coward, but he's going to try anyway. he feels he has to prove himself kinda.. like "you'll see! i can do it watch!" and considering his behavior in this episode it shows. he's overcompensating for that fear and trying to prove that he can be enough to make a difference. especially shown by how he reacts when "Vos" tells him he's not up for the task. he's trying, it isn't enough, so he decides to mimic his heroes and pretend to be someone he isn't (which... unfortunately half the cast doesn't take seriously)

the second line proves my points more. "im not the person she thinks i am anymore" raises a lot of questions on what happened ofc but there's also the "I can be different. Braver. If that's what the situation requires... I'll do it." and guess what! he *does* do that! a combination of pressure from people telling him that he can't do it and he'd just get hurt in the process and is too weak and cowardly to really do much + the stress of the situations he's thrust into seems to sort of catalyze his decision to put on the "prison radar" persona and pretend to mimic his heroes and act strong to not only make a difference and mean something but also to survive The Horrors . but he doesn't want to do this, that isn't who he is as a person, moreso what he feels he has to do. also thinking of pne line where he says something abojt the "incredible misery in the world crushing down on you". like this is a random throwaway line?? clearly the entire situation of s2 is Getting to him but he never really gets to Express that

now ofc like i mentioned this arc is in no way perfect. it's fucking interesting but it feels unresolved and forgotten by episode 5 along with the other characters completely ignoring the fact that that isn't who he is along with jesse even praising that in some dialogue options. like the writing of this kinda confuses me because everything radar says and feels up to that point implies that it's a façade built to be what others want him to be and as a stress response but some later things kinda treat the way he acts as a Good Thing and like ???? like i get it if they wanted to do the "being more courageous" arc sure. fine. but this doesn't seem like it was simply written as that. he does Not usually act like how he does during the "prison radar" thing and its just never addressed. which fucks me up bc this is personally one of my favorite character arcs of mcsm due to how complicated and insane it is + hes one of my favorite characters ever and i relate to his issues a lot but instead thw writings kinda ????? but yeah. its always bothered me really but to be Fair mcsm was hit by a lot of budget cuts that affected the plot like dont even get me started on the scrapped assistant to the warden who sesms to be meant to be the antithesis to radar kind of... and im p sure some episodes had different writers. so yeah this sucks but it isnt gonna piss me off that bad I just wish his arc was handled a bit differently. might potentially write something or w/e about this but anyways if you read this entire thread 1. you're insane 2. we do a little trolling. follow me mcsm truthers

i worship the Greek pantheon!

🌞 - Which deity(s) are you closest to/do you worship the most often?

as you can probably tell from my url, i’m an Apollo devotee :) i’m closer to him than i have been with any other deity, and i worship him every day.

�� - Do you believe in patron deities? If so, do you have any that you know of?

i do, and Apollo is my patron! i found this out a year or so into worshipping him, and it brought me so much joy honestly 😭

🌍 - Which pantheons do you believe exist?

this is a tricky one! in my practice i exclusively worship the Theoi, however i’m not sure on the existence of other pantheons as i can’t speak for them. however, i firmly believe that people’s personal experiences have to be considered, so i’d probably say that i believe there’s truth in every religion. my main focus will always be the Theoi though, so i don’t really dabble or look into much else beyond interest.

📜 - Have you ever made an oath, vow, or contract with a deity? If yes, how did it go (you don’t have to share)?

i have not! my relationship with Apollo is very personal between him and i, and i’ve never felt as though i needed to make a “contractual agreement” in order to feel his love or demonstrate my devotion. lots of respect for those who have though!

📿 - What are three things you’re grateful to your deity(s) for?

1) his understanding and care when i don’t want to be understanding or caring towards myself. 2) his support on my journey, no matter the path i take. 3) his presence, and the signs he sends me exactly when and where i need them

🖋️ - If you could say anything to your deity(s) right now, what would you most want to say?

just a very simple, always appreciated “i love you”. because i truly do, with my whole heart.

💌 - What is your favourite form of deity communication?

my favourite (and go-to when i really need to talk with Apollo or get advice) is oracle cards, but i also appreciate dream messages!

🎭 - What is an emotionally impactful or a silly worship-related experience you’ve had?

a silly little one: i went shopping with my parents a few years back, and just before i left i was praying to Apollo about wanting to find something to honour him but not being able to afford a statue. i was in the kids section, looking for a little something for my little sister, and then i saw a mini figure and practically felt Apollo tell with excitement. it was a yellow care bear with a sun on its belly, no bigger than my hand, and now instead of speaking to a statue of Apollo when i’m at his altar i talk to a little yellow care bear that he wanted me to get for him 😅

❤️ - What’s one memory of your practice that you reflect the most fondly on?

there are so many memories, but one of my favourites is when i was really struggling mentally after being rejected from my dream drama school. i prayed and sent thanks for the opportunity to audition, but i was absolutely devastated especially because i’d worked so hard. i’d finished crying and was about to settle to sleep when i felt almost like blanket of warmth wash over me, and i swear to this day i “felt” a hand against my back. i really needed that, and i’m forever grateful to Apollo for loving me and knowing exactly how to look after me.

🥂 - What is your favourite devotional act or offering to give?

being a musical theatre student/actress, i devote every show i perform in to Apollo, which is one of my favourite ways to worship him. i also sing a LOT whilst divining/using oracle cards, so that would be a close second. in terms of physical offerings, i’ve always adored the “i’d give you my last ____” sentiment, so often if i’m having a snack like an orange, or a pack of sweets, i’ll give him the last bit of it as a reminder of my devotion.

🎉 - Do you celebrate any festivals? If so, which ones?

i don’t really! i celebrate the traditional pagan holidays (lammas, imbolc, samhain, yule, etc) but none really in regards to my deity worship.

🫂 - Do you syncretize any pantheons with one another? If so, which ones?

i don’t 😅

🔮 - Do you delve into topics like the occult or the mysteries? Do you do anything esoteric?

i am hugely into the occult, especially the paranormal and things like that. before i discovered spirituality i was a ghost hunting girl through and through, and i’ve never lost that fascination with the occult!

⭐️ - What is something you wish people outside your practice knew more about?

the fact that our mythologies aren’t meant to be read like the Bible and taken completely literally! a lot of them are products of their time, as well as teaching lessons and humans reflecting their own flaws and features onto divine beings.

📖 - Do you like the way your pantheon is most often portrayed in media? Why or why not?

not at all :( between lore olympus, percy jackson (which i love, don’t get me wrong), and portrayals of Greek mythology throughout the years, it can be so difficult to worship online or in public when people have extremely stereotypical views on the Gods. i understand consuming that content - you do you - but i wish people would seperate the real Gods from what they see on TV.

🏛️ - Do you have a favourite statue or temple to your deity(s)? If so, which ones?

i’m wracking my brain but i genuinely can’t think of a favourite, i adore them all 😅

🔥 - Do you have a favourite myth or tale from your pantheon or others?

the tale of Apollo and Hyacithus always makes me bawl, but i love it - it’s a tale of true devotion and love.

🧭 - What led you to your practice?

i was very into Greek mythology as a child, and my parents said when i was little i used to leave little gifts and have conversations with the Gods. i started worshipping the Theoi around halfway through high school when i researched into witchcraft after going to a fair near my house, but i like to think they’ve always been with me :)

🧿 - Did you have any spiritual beliefs before discovering your current practice?

i did! i’ve always been a believer in energy/divination/witchcraft/paranormal etc, and i was a practicing witch for a few months before i stumbled across hellenic paganism.

🪽 - Do you believe in angels and/or demons? If yes, do you worship/work with any?

this is a bit of a weird explanation but bear with me. i don’t believe in angels and demons in the biblical sense, but i do believe in non-human spirits that either have so much positive or negative energy attached to them that they achieve a demon or angel like status. so like a haunted house may not have a demon in it, but it may have a spirit that is so dark and powerful that it appears like a biblical demon.

🪄 - Do you practice witchcraft? If yes, do you keep it seperate from your deity worship?

i do, however i practice much less than i used to because my main focus is paganism. but sometimes i will invoke Apollo or other deities for spells (with their permission and after giving them offerings ofc).

🪦 - Do ancestors or human spirits play a big role in your practice?

not really - i’ve never felt much of an ancestral pull spiritually and i have a lot of respect for spirits so i prefer to let them be rather than actively involve them in my life.

🐾 - Do animal spirits play a big role in your practice?

nope!

🌱 - Does nature - plants, nature spirits, etc - play a big role in your practice?

i don’t particularly invoke nature spirits, however when worshipping Apollo sometimes i’ll devote time spent in nature or connecting with the sun and the elements to him.

💀 - Do you believe in ghosts? If yes, have you ever had an experience with one?

absolutely i do! i’ve had many many many experiences, but one of the most notable was in my house. i was watching a horror film (i’m a massive horror film fan) and the TV remote was on the arm of the chair i was sitting in. out of nowhere, the volume started going up - i had it on 23, and it turned all the way up to 100. the remote was completely still next to me, and when i picked it up to turn it back down NONE of the buttons were working. after about a minute, i managed to turn it off and my dog started barking. i called him and he started coming down the stairs, but stopped halfway and yelped - his body moved back up a step like he’d been kicked. he then sat on the top step and refused to come down, even when i held his favourite treats out in front of him. terrifying 😅

i believe in the steal realm, but i don’t think i’ve ever been there; it’s not particularly of interest to me to visit it, so i’d much rather hear other’s experiences and research rather than attempting to get to it.

K-pop Discography Deep Dives: Red Velvet (Part TWO)

A Disclaimer: I was planning, when I first started Tumblr, to be a lurker, but then I began an office job and needed something to listen to to keep myself occupied. And then, I started going through entire K-pop groups’ repertoires, album by album, and jotting down my thoughts. And then, I stumbled into K-pop tumblr and decided, you know what, there’s at least four people on this hell site who would read in depth rants about these discographies and at least five who wouldn’t read it and then get mad because it’s kind of our job as K-pop fans. My lukewarm takes should be taken with an entire silo of salt and the knowledge that this is completely for fun and occupying my very bored, very neurodivergent brain. All this to say, for the love of god, I’m a sleep-deprived student and I don’t have time for internet hate, so don’t kill me. With that being said, enjoy!

Here are my credentials: Red Velvet was the first k-pop group I ever loved, even though Blackpink was really my introduction. I became a ReVeLuv in 2019, because of Russian Roulette, and I’ve been a fan since, including of the members’ solo careers (Wendy in particular). But as I’ve gotten more into k-pop and since they come back so infrequently, I haven’t really been keeping up with them and I feel like I’m less of a fan than I once was. So, I’m super excited for their comeback on the 13th (especially with a full album!) and I’m hoping that through this deep dive, I’ll fall back in love just in time for the new album.

This is Part Two of the review, and we left off just before another famous summer comeback in Power Up. Right away, Power Up feels like an interesting combination of Red Flavor’s warm excitement and Ice Cream Cake’s high bubbliness. It’s unusual for their music, because despite its bursts of aegyo in its choruses, it also has more subdued moments in the verses to breathe. I confess that for me, it doesn’t balance quite enough and I find that the song just feels immature and shrill, rather than Red Flavor’s good mix of youthfulness and wistfulness. It’s not for me, but it’s not a bad song.

From the Summer Magic EP, it was hard to choose a hidden gem. Blue Lemonade has a delightfully fizzy feeling with its popping, while Hit That Drum has (unsurprisingly) a great driving beat and a smash of a bridge / last chorus, and Mr. E’s “abracadabra” refrain remains stuck in my head.

#Cookie Jar and SAPPY are both Japanese releases, so I won’t spend long on them, but suffice to say I do like them both. SAPPY is a touch too bubbly for me, but it mixes its R & B and pop better than Power Up, but #Cookie Jar (despite the silly title), is actually a pretty good balance and very catchy.

Really Bad Boy immediately introduces itself as a little bit strange with Joy’s 1,2,5! countoff. With all my ranting and raving in past reviews about how much I hate empty, chanty choruses, I’m sure everyone’s expecting me to rip this one to shreds. But I’m actually not going to. A little bit of excellent harmonizing and background vocalizing goes a long way, and there’s not much harmonizing better than that in RBB. Red Velvet’s voices really are doing the heavy lifting here, but that’s really what sets it apart from all those songs I’ve complained about. It may be a little hard to take seriously, but just like War Of Hormone of BTS, it’s a pretty good time if you suspend your disbelief, throw up your hands, and have as much fun as the people singing it.

From the RBB mini-album, Butterflies was a standout for me. Like the best of RV’s b-sides, it zings along with a delightfully breezy feeling and some great slowly rising vocals to complete the sound. Shoutout also to the interesting vocal fry in Sassy Me and the playful back-and-forth vocals in Taste.

RV’s 2019 work is divided into three EPs, each with its own title track, that together form one mammoth album: the ReVe Festival. Zimzalabim is the first single, and is infamous both amongst ReVeLuvs and other k-pop stans alike. While other RV titles have been odd, this song takes it to a whole other level, like Rookie’s insanity on steroids. There are parts that work (like the na na na na na higher in the pre-chorus), but many more that don’t, and, just like with Rookie, we’re left with a song that has good ideas and good parts, but needed a few more drafts and way more editing. “Are you ready for this?” Wendy asks at the beginning. Well, apparently not.

From part one of the ReVe Festival, I liked both the calming, slightly reggae-inspired Sunny Side Up (because who doesn’t love terrible puns?) and the drum-line heavy, quick-footed Bing Bing, which, despite much of it being nonsense vocalizations, is very catchy and will have you dancing before the first chorus.

Umpah Umpah is often overshadowed in the ReVe Festival, due to the craziness that comes before and the that comes after (we’ll get to that), but it’s actually my favorite of the three songs. On first listen, I didn’t appreciate its humor, odd lyrics, and 60’s-at-the-beach vibes, but after learning that it’s actually a special track marking their 5th anniversary, it grew on me. I especially like the background vocalizations that round it out beautifully and the way-too-short acapella section at the beginning of the last chorus because it was probably my favorite part of the song. It’s really a celebration of their friendship and how far they’ve come, and I’ve never been able to resist songs that wear their heart on their sleeve.

Just as Umpah Umpah is my favorite of the three titles, the ReVe Festival Part Two is my favorite of the three mini-albums (and one of my favorite RV albums in general). I found it quite difficult to choose between the carnival-meets-doo-wop of Love Is The Way, the brisk chantiness of Carpool, and the feel-good girl power disco of Ladies’ Night. But the other songs are great too.

Despite the popularity of the many titles mentioned before, none come close to the almost inescapable fame that Psycho reached internationally. From the first whispered accusation “psycho” and the swirling electronic background meeting the delicate strings, it has this creeping unsettling feeling that never quotes goes away—which makes sense, given that it’s a song about a toxic relationship. While I do like this song, I think it’s not surprising that it doesn’t live up to the insane amount of hype it recieves, because really, how could it? It is what it is, and it does what it sets out to do well, but in such a strong discography, it’s just a footnote.

From the last part of the ReVe Festival, my favorite was definitely the jazzy, bluesy La Rouge, which I wish could’ve gotten a special music video like Be Natural or Automatic, because it’s definitely at that same level. I know I’ve mentioned the harmonizing in nearly every b-side but it’s just so good that, well, how could I not? The vocals are at some of their most refined here, oscillating between drawn-out and self-assured and gently emotional, giving the song much-needed layers.

Soon after Psycho’s release, Wendy suffered a terrible stage accident that injured her hip, jawbone, and wrist, and, needing time in order to recover, Red Velvet went on hiatus for almost two years, before returning with Queendom in late summer 2021. Because of when I became a fan, this was the first RV comeback I saw in real time, so I fully acknowledge the rose-colored glasses I’m looking at it through. It’s a basic pop song, and I’m not going to champion it like it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but it does get me bopping my head. It’s got the bones of another of their classics, but none of its strongest moments are pushed quite far enough.

From the Queendom EP, I had two hidden gems. Pose, despite what in lesser hands would immediately make me classify it as an anti-drop, is actually my favorite, and the combination of self-assured sing talk and exuberant singing really works for me. Knock On Wood is a calmer R & B b-side, and like many of their Velvet tracks, it’s nothing incredible, but their voices elevate it to great. That post-chorus is a highlight too.

Feel My Rhythm is the 1st single from the ReVe Festival’s 2022 counterpart, and is honestly one of my favorites. The song is lovely, weaving in a classical background and samples of twittering birds and running water to truly establish a calm feeling. The song bursts with life, but a more refined, almost mature version of it compared to Red Flavor’s bombast. The title “Feel My Rhythm” may create the image of a very dancy, upbeat song, but in truth, it’s more like the quiet beauty of an Oh My Girl track than that. Also, the MV is just really pretty, with its moving impressionist paintings, while keeping some of that signature Red Velvet strangeness.

From the mini-album, though I did like both Bamboleo and Rainbow Halo, In My Dreams was my clear standout. That chorus is the stuff of legends: the way it rushes back and forth from quiet to loud, the way the voices blend in such a stunning way, and the way it combines its driving emotion and the beautiful elegance swirling around it. Perfection.

Birthday is the single from the 2nd part of the ReVe Festival 2022. After how much I liked the 1st part, I wish I could say I liked this one too. Unfortunately, I think that despite a few standout moments (like the pre-chorus), I have no idea what on earth SM Entertainment was thinking. This song isn’t “bad”, in the way of Rookie or Zimzalabim, where, despite not being for me, I can at least respect what they were going for. Instead, it sounds nothing like an RV song, and just rumbles around in bizarre, uncharismatic sing-talk that does a disservice to such great vocals. The girls do their best but even they can’t save this one, because every time I hear this song I just wonder who mixed up the tracks for Red Velvet and NCT 127. I also think that the accompanying EP is one of their weakest, and I don’t have a hidden gem for it.

Red Velvet just came back today (the 13th, as I’m writing this) with their third full album (finally!!) and the title track Chill Kill begins with the kind of creeping yet lovely string-accompanied verse that I wish Psycho had. I was worried that we’d get a repeat of Birthday but thankfully I needn’t have worried. The chorus bounces with horrid delight in alt-pop perfection while the girls cover up a murder in the background (as one does). The bridge, meanwhile, culminates in a 3rd gen trademark high note as a house burns to the ground, the girls dance in front of the police pursuing them, and face their fate together in a surprisingly touching show of sisterhood. I couldn’t have asked for a better single; it’s that more vocal focused and emotionally driven Peek-A-Boo that I always wished for.

The album, Chill Kill, is just as strong, harkening back to the Red Velvet I loved back in The Perfect Velvet. It was difficult to pick a hidden gem, as I loved the cathartic high part and scratchy strings in Knock Knock (Who’s There?), the surprisingly video game like chorus in Will I Ever See You Again, the catchy yet gentle comfort in Nightmare, and the slowly rising a-capella in Wings that encourages the listener to be a brave butterfly no matter what the world says.

My Top 5 songs by Red Velvet are One Of These Nights, Russian Roulette, Umpah Umpah, Dumb Dumb, and You Better Know, with In My Dreams and Peek-A-Boo as honorable mentions. Red Velvet gets a 9 out of 10 from me, and I think that both that and my distance from the band can mostly be put down to the fact that while the songs themselves are almost all technically excellent, very few of them have deeper meanings than a typical b-side.

The ones that do—like One Of These Nights or Umpah Umpah—are some of my favorites, but on the whole, I don’t have as deep an emotional connection to their music as I do to Dreamcatcher’s or to Seventeen’s. This is also down to the fact that Red Velvet doesn’t write any of their own songs, unlike the previous two (who write / compose some and all, respectively), and thus the members have less of an emotional connection to the music too. This isn’t a dig at Red Velvet, who are all incredibly talented, but I would love to hear more of what they have to say, like on their solos.

So, did I meet what I set out to do at the beginning and rediscover my love of Red Velvet? Well, I think I did! I’ve honestly yet to find another group like them, barring maybe SHINee, whose voices are all excellent separately but together become something far greater than the sum of their parts. I think it’s safe to say that Red Velvet will always have a special place in my heart, even if I don’t listen to them every day. No matter if they disband tomorrow or not for decades, I’m proud to call myself a ReVeLuv. I’ll be here on August 1st. 2024 for their tenth anniversary, blue lemonade in hand, and I hope you will be too.

I guess I technically have the power to make it not quiet, to, to talk to people, but like- you know, I, I also have the power to clean out the fridge, and it’s still a mess. It’s not that I don’t want to clean the fridge, it’s just- Some things are just hard.

Analogy for depression!! It really is, like. I dunno, it's a lot easier to self isolate, especially when you haven't been talking to people for a while. Not talking to your friends for months and then having none because it's easier to just... not talk to anyone! Can relate.

It's hard, you know, because people are tiring and there's the anxiety from not talking to them in months and it's just... yeah. Some things are just hard. I want to give him a hug. I want him to have nice things.

How much do I actually care, and how much is just feeling that I should care?

I just think that Martin's transition from person who does care, to person who doesn't care like he's supposed to and wants to - really wants to - but it all feels like a lie. People are hard.

I’m sure the gnostic temple was a great loss culturally speaking, but I can’t help but admire your directness when it comes to this sort of thing.

Interesting. Adelard Dekkar calls it (The Flesh) Viscera. I really like the alternate names for them, and you know what, I'm going to go out on a limb and say maybe the different names can mean slightly different aspects.

It Knows You feels more like something watching, something knowing, rather than you watching and knowing, it feels more sentient. There is an it, rather than just the Ceaseless Watcher, watching without seeing, without comprehension. The Mother of Puppets feels like it has more agency than just The Web, like characterising it as a someone, made it so it could be a someone.

It's like that thing in Discworld, where a god's power depends on people believing in them - and in this case fearing them. The form of the fears is what people believe to be the form of the fears.

It’s a little too out-of-the-way to be a common destination for teenage delinquency, but has become, I’m told, quite popular with what can be described as ’rural urban exploration groups.’

You should absolutely under no circumstance become an urban explorer if you live in the TMA universe. You will die or have a supernatural encounter. That's literally- that's going to happen.

He was very interested in the Hall of Mirrors. According to him, if it was still in good shape, it would have been an amazing place to put on a light show, and have his guests dance their way through the maze. Sounds like a good way to get injured to me, but apparently I used the word ’rave’ wrong, so what do I know?

Our lost young friend felt his stomach turn. He told me he was a good fifteen feet away, but could still hear the sounds of her desperate hunger over the rides all around.

Oh, right, The Extinction is also... this. Every one of the people starving to death.

I don't think The Extinction is that new, but every time I try to explain it, I worry I'm going to say something wrong, but yeah.

My first assumption would have been the Flesh, based on the cannibalism and strangeness of the bodies involved, but- something about this idea of some sort of famine world, its location within a man-made ruin, the whole… societal aspect of it- I’d be inclined to chalk this up as a genuine Extinction manifestation.

I feel like it's got to be the Extinction. I mean, soup, but it doesn't... feel like Flesh. Flesh feels more... I don't know. It feels different. There isn't enough body horror for it to be flesh /hj

No but it just... what is the fear here? Of being eaten? Of the hunger in their eyes? Of that place? Of the thing following him? I feel like it's just... case by case basis, what is this, you know?

A lot of these really don't fit in neatly to little categorisations, you know. They're intrinsically linked. What is the fear of being trapped under infinite amounts of dirt, with that fear of the infinite amount of dirt? You can't have a colour wheel with only red. They spread out in all directions, overlap so you can never get something pure and distilled. They are only separate because people believe it's separate, and then they're not... what is the fear of someone or something manipulating you without the fear that they know you, they know exactly how to push your buttons.

now it's so hard for me to pretend it doesn't bother me when people say cucurucho is just a silly goofy guy full of whimsy and bubbles. that bear is sadistic, sinister, and now we know what it and the federation are truly capable of. will jaiden know the truth? does she even care? did she care at all back then when she first worked for them?

qjaiden definitely knows! she understands the things the federation is capable of besides the recent lore that she has missed. its fundamental to her character to understand that qjaiden’s belief is that cucurucho’s actions are less about him being sinister as a person but that his boss who is ordering him to do those actions is the true evil. she believes while yes cucurucho has done some alarming things he is under someones direct command and is still a living being who deserves a level of kindness especially since offering that kindness may assist her in learning more about the federation and his boss.

from how i view it qjaiden definitely cares i mean she was one of the ones who was quite adamant trying to find qq as she was the one who literally watched him get taken by cucurucho. and though she appears to naively go along with missions and what cucurucho says she is aware there could be negative consequences for her & others. she is willingly taking that risk hoping that it will only affect her. she knows full well she can get taken or harmed in any capacity and even perhaps be lied to about the egg safety but she feels she has to do something. as well as acknowledging that she cannot turn back at this point.

important to note she knows her path is completely dangerous & risky but she feels she doesn’t have anything to lose as well. and to speak honestly shes right. at least compared to the others on the island. she lost the one thing that held value & massive attachment to her. bobby. and of course she has friends and those who trust her but its not something the federation can use to easily harm her as easily as an egg would. i think the closest thing they could do is something involving qroier but even then I’m not sure how well that would work.

i think what’s interesting about jaidens connection with the cucurucho is that it’s a very honest approach. she doesn’t lie nor attempt to manipulate cucurucho. she has no greedy or secret intentions. she is in her most honest form trying to get to know and understand cucurucho. she acts like a true friend to him. she treats him like any other person on the island.

i see qjaiden as a person placed in a field of land mines. the chances of not hitting a landmine are low and the further she traverses the field the closer she may reach her demise but theres always the end of the field. the end is there despite how far and treacherous it may be. i wonder if when she reaches the end, if she ever does, will the danger have been worth it? only time will tell.

now the qjaiden we know is the one who cannot remember a past with the federation so it’s hard to speak for that federation worker version of her as it’s completely unknown to us. but i would assume if her memory was wiped then maybe she did realize there was something bad going on with the federation and cucurucho and they had to remove her recollection of it. but its hard to say. as again we don’t know much about that.

overall i think we as the audience cannot and should not trust the federation, cucurucho, or the code entity. but i think when it comes to the characters qjaiden is a special case especially when we consider how she views the situation of being trapped on the island. it’s different it’s interesting and it has a lot of potential at least to me. obviously there’s nothing wrong with characters like qcellbit who adamantly are against the federation but characters like qjaiden i feel have a lot more room to roleplay with the federation/cucurucho and in turn expand our knowledge about them. so i think jaidens path for this roleplay is excellent since it balances out nicely with characters like qmaxo qcellbit etc. and give us a different perspective on everything. we love a true neutral in this house.

Godzilla vs. Megalon 50th Anniversary and the Origin of Jaguarposting

I started this account in November when my Godzilla hyperfixation was in full force thanks to a series rewatch I was doing and G-Fest. A lot of that hyperfixation was focused on Anguirus, Baragon, and Jet Jaguar.

I don’t exactly think they’re great characters or anything, I just kind of gravitated towards them for some reason. I know why for all of them, Anguirus having an off-screen reconciliation with Godzilla while forced to live together on Monster Island was actually sort of neat, I don’t like that we never get to see it and are forced to just assume it happened but its also nice to see something interesting and new, especially since this was at a point where the Showa era just kind of felt like it had grown entirely creatively bankrupt (The last truly creative Showa film is Hedorah, ik its a polarizing movie and I think that actually kind of proves my point a little). For Baragon, its that I just found it funny how they paired him with two far more popular monsters for this movie and then had him get his shit wrecked really quickly (he also has the most creative fight in the movie but I’m pretty sure I just liked him cause he’s a jobber). And for Jet Jaguar, its sort of hard to say. I know most of the western fanbase for the character likes him because of MST3K, but I never watched the GvM episode (except the Jet Jaguar song sub but that was after the hyperfixation kicked in).

The only reason I can think of is that he’s just funny to me. He’s basically the star character of this movie he isn’t in the title of and his plot just goes all over the place. He starts the movie as the invention of an engineer who wants to protect the world by piloting a robotic suit (which, considering there is an island full of monsters that is so poorly secured they could just leave anytime they wanted if they can swim or fly (almost all of them can), which they did in the last movie, its understandable why he’d do this). And by the end the suit has gained full sentience, befriended Godzilla, and defeated a bunch of underground men who control a giant bug with a drill head and drill hands. There isn’t that much explanation for most of these things either, they just sort of happen suddenly. Godzilla vs. Megalon is a terrible, terrible movie, and Jet Jaguar is the central character. Godzilla vs. Megalon is also an immensely enjoyable movie that I have subjected multiple people to so that I could see their reactions. I love it, its so fun, and Jet Jaguar is a big part of why the movie is so fun. He’s so fucking silly and stupid, I love him.

I said its hard to say why I like Jet Jaguar as much as I do, but its not impossible, in fact I basically just did. This overly long post has been mostly me saying why I like Jet Jaguar. But I haven’t really talked about Jaguarposting. Why the fuck do I post this guy? Because he’s funny to me, I made Baragon my Discord pfp for a while because he’s funny to me to. Its not super complicated, I am a very simple man. I main Blanka and Faust because they’re goofy guys, and in the same vein, I fixate on Jet Jaguar because he’s a goofy guy. The legacy of Godzilla vs. Megalon is that its a stupid fucking movie. Jaguarposting is a celebration of that movie’s stupidity, the idea that a post is funny solely because it features a character from the film.

I didn’t realize March 17th was Megalon’s birthday, I didn’t see any posts about it on the day and didn’t have the date committed to memory. So this post is late. But I still want to wish GvM a happy 50th. Maybe go watch it in it’s honor and hopefully see what I’ve been rambling on about for this long.

If you don’t know what Jaguarposting is, don’t worry, I’ve only ever used the term once and made like 5 posts in the genre across all social media. However its my first post on Tumblr, so I felt it was about time to explain myself.
