I really wish there were more fics that delved into how Akutagawa's love for Atsushi is different from his love for Dazai.
Tbh I just wish Akutagawa's romantic feelings for Dazai were acknowledged more and I'm only now realizing it's so weird how nobody really ever brings them up? while it's all so evidently there. I mean, considering Akutagawa to be / having been in love with Dazai is seriously a perfectly feasible, consistent, realistic way to interpret the text without any need to bend or stretch it. It just makes a lot of sense for how his character is portrayed - his obsession with Dazai, his devotion, his desperation to be acknowledged and approved by him - and I think it's quite the important piece to understand his character. His love for Dazai is a significant aspect of Akutagawa's character, and it also explains why he's always been so vulnerable to manipulation by Dazai specifically. In a way, I think Akutagawa being so unmistakingly gay is also coherent with the way he's completely indifferent and even oblivious to Higuchi's feelings for him that lie at the light of the day– although, please note, that's a slippery slope that can degenerate in apologism for the way he abuses her, so I beg to be mindful when considering that.
Akutagawa's feelings for Dazai are in ultimate analysis extremely relevant for how Akutagawa falls and acts in the sskk picture: Atsushi being not the first person Akutagawa ever fell for, so in a way him being more aware of his own feelings than Atsushi is; Akutagawa falling for Atsushi first (and harder), because at this point he already knows he likes men, he already knows what being in love with someone feels like. But at the same time I believe that it's so interesting to explore how his feelings for Dazai are different from what he holds for Atsushi. On one side you have Akutagawa's feelings for Dazai being passive: not in the way he doesn't act after them, of course he does, but in the way he's always passively subject to Dazai's abuse, unable to stand for himself, blinded by his devotion to Dazai and unable to really see the damage he's causing him. Passive in the way that he's created this image of Dazai in his mind, perfect, god-like, static and unnatural, that struggles to evolve and adapt to reality. Akutagawa's love for Atsushi, on the other hand, is aggressive: always actively trying to hurt the other, always attempting to make the other suffer; it really speaks of someone whom, all his life, has always associated love with pain. Akutagawa hurts Atsushi because he knows love means pain, and he hurts Atsushi because he can't allow his love for him to hurt Akutagawa again as deeply and painfully as it's done in the past. It's a little sad. Ultimately, Akutagawa's love for Atsushi being the push Akutagawa needs to get over Dazai at last, something I fear he never really managed to do up to - I believe - at least chapter 53: getting over Dazai as something he gradually achieved after the soul-searching he did during his absence between chapters 53 and 84. Chapter 84 being the one where Akutagawa willingly, readily said “no” to Dazai in a way that was so sudden and surprising for anyone who knows him and that is easy to interpret as Akutagawa finally starting to free himself from the influence Dazai has had on him up to that point. That's why Akutagawa's sacrifice for Atsushi is all the more important and poignant, because him protecting (and dying for) Atsushi was never for Dazai to begin with.
I always always considered Akutagawa being gay and in love with Dazai to be like. the most evidently queer thing the bsd canon has to offer (and maybe the “you know the reason yourself don't you”, but I guess that falls under the bigger category of “Ryuunosuke Akutagawa is a character that is gay”); but now that I think about it, nobody ever brings it up really. I can guess it's probably because most people - including people who like Akutagawa and ship sskk - ultimately sympathize with Dazai, and even where acknowledging the hurt he's done to Akutagawa, don't really like to dwell on it or explore the relationship between the two of them which is... legit, indeed. Still, I think their relationship and Akutagawa's romantic feelings for Dazai are a very important part of his character that shouldn't be overlooked when trying to accurately portray him.
And the rational part of my brain knows this can't be intentional, knows Akutagawa wasn't written to be read as gay. But there's another I'd dare say equally rational part of my brain that keeps speaking up to say the majority of his characterization - his devotion to Dazai, his (can I say? tender) sacrifice for Atsushi, his mistreatment of Higuchi - really starts to make sense only when you interpret him as gay. So, sorry???

I saw your post about self ID and if someone you're with came out as trans. Tbh I think that if you still love & care for that person, it shouldn't really matter. You can still identify as lesbian and be with someone who is trans (in my opinion). I get that it may not be a popular opinion but as a queer person who could literally give a shit less about a "title" or "label" anymore, I just kind of see it as...who the heck cares as long as you're happy lol
hi yea i hear u, a part of me does feel like if we rlly had a previous deep connection and love for one another i may want to make an exception for that case and ik a good part of lgbt discussion can concern an excessive sometimes obsessive over-concern w labels and labelling but my identity in this case and in my personal life is extremely important to me, and i feel like i’d want to be respectful of aligning w the way the lesbian community desires to be seen and not start falling into what looks like bi lesbianism or smth, and also consider how the relationship & situation looks from my partner’s pov. i talked to oomfie last night abt it and sitting down to re-evaluate our roles concerns both of us, possibly especially ur partner bc they know that coming out to u and socially possibly medically means the relationship most likely can’t or won’t continue how it had previously. coming to terms w ur gender identity takes immense self-reflection and i think part of that would involve their consideration of if they’d want to continue their romantic life in a lesbian oriented way as a transman, i also realise transmasc probably wasn’t the wording i meant in my original post as much as a literal trans man, being n-b transmasc is much more flexible to work w as far as lesbianism imo. all that bc i literally am a lesbian w a trans n-b partner who also IDs as a lesbian, my fault for not specifying better
#no offence to u personally but i also think it’s much easier to hold this view if u identity as queer#like it’s just like throwing a blanket statement over the situation to indicate some sort of gayness going on in the partnership without too#much clarification. which imo still kinda falls into identity politics or however u could better describe it idk rn#i do hear u on the who cares how others perceive ur rship outwardly as far as identity but. lesbianism is rlly important to me lmao#and preserving the importance of attraction to non-men. i think ur partner would also definitely be aware of this and would have some sort#of idea at that point how they wanted to approach their sexuality in conjunction with their new identity and tbh if they’re a transman#it probably wouldn’t be lesbianism anymore#id be v sad to lose the relationship but i don’t think i’d be happier feeling like i was keeping them hostage or they felt hostage in a#partnership that no longer aligned w their self-perception. and knowing im still a lesbian they’d probably reversely respect my pov on that#too ! so anyways i think i kinda have a clearer vision on how this situation would hypothetically go even tho ofc it’ll still depend#i’ll review this once i post it i cant read my tags on mobile lmao but thank u for sharing ik it could turn into something v complicated#v quickly but if my partner were coming out to me w that information i’d trust them to navigate how we went forward w some sense#oh also additionally again no offence but i feel like if they genuinely transitioned socially to a transmanand u were still IDing as a#lesbian while dating them i feel like that starts walking into afab amab discourse and i don’t like those terms i think they’re reductive#and defeating the purpose of transitioning as well as disrespectful to the person in general so . i guess it just isn’t smth id wanna do lol#answered#anonymous#WOW MY TAGS ARE SO LONG SORRY

Book Of Vile Darkness -- teaches you secrets of evil, corrupts good readers.
Book Of Neutral Blandness -- teaches you secrets of neutrality, doesn't really care whether you read it or not.
Book of Tedious Forms -- teaches you secrets of law, chaotic characters can read it but they have to fill in Form 13(b) first and take it to Desk A in sub-facility 19, so none ever have.
Book Of Zany Plans -- teaches you secrets of chaos, heists lawful readers using a mascot head, box of mousetraps and a recording of a Justin Beiber concert.
Book Of Mediocre Bullshit -- teaches you unimpressive commoner knowledge, is slightly annoyed if cool people read it but not enough to do anything.
Book Of Gay Shenanigans -- teaches you secrets of gayness, presumably something happens if a straight person reads it but no-one knows for sure because there aren't any in the D&D world.
Book Of Meta Knowledge -- teaches you weirdly personal things about your players. Not sure what that means and there's no effect if you read it, but you feel like someone somewhere just got really sad about what it said.
Book Of Unpleasant Goblins -- hollowed out, an angry goblin is lurking inside to steal your kidneys. The goblin is at least highly egalitarian so will attack anyone who reads it, goblin or not.
Book Of Empty Pages -- doesn't contain anything or do anything. Not sure what you expected.

Why Midori is such a breath of fresh air or how to actually write a Villain.
So the awaited essay, the winner of the FrenchGremlin polls of laziness finally has come! It took some time but it’s finally over. If your choice didn’t get chosen that’s okay! I’ll repost a new poll with old and newer options. Please reblog this one i put a lot of time in it, it's like, five pages long over a silly goose. Also sorry for the grammar i sucks and i'm not native. So let’s begin:
(also here is the link to the video format)
So first let’s make things clear, What IS a villain?
“A villain is a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.” That is why I do want to make a difference between a villain and an antagonist, an antagonist is a character who are a plot devices that creates obstruction to the protagonist. That means that a villain is forced to be an antagonist while an antagonist is not forced to be a villain. For example shin is an antagonist but not a villain, he is driven by selfish desires which are themselves fueled by fear anger and loss, he is the protagonist of his own story and is a sympathetic character despite it all, and Midori is just a bitch. Midori falls under multiple stereotypes of villains. Such as “the mastermind”, “evil incarnate” (lmao),”related to the protagonist” etc. Midori is evil, there is no denying in this, he is purely evil, and he doesn’t have a sad weepy backstory, he doesn’t feel empathy towards other, he is a despicable piece of shit who ruined so many lives. I won’t list everything but here is a list of his crimes, murder, assault, domestic abuse, grooming, verbal abuse, and torture, crimes against humanity lmao, stalking, violent crimes, and participation in a cult. And his worst crime is being a pussy bitch of course. So now that we have put the bases up let’s really begin.
Hollywood has a hate boner against villains and I hate them for that.
Recently Hollywood decided that pure evil bad guys is actually a bad thing, so now they decided to do stupid side story with them, to give them ”””depth””” since I guess how could we like those villains since they are bad. A great example of this is the Disney remakes which I loathe so much oh god I hate them. So first they did a maleficient it was okay honestly, then they did a freaking cruella movie where her mom gets killed by Dalmatians, that’s not a joke, in the peter and wendy movie that nobody saw they decided to have made the captain hook be a lost boy who was abandoned by the lost boys and peter, oh also they decided that PETER CUT HIS HANDS OFF AND LEFT HIM TO DIE BECAUSE HOOK WANTED TO SEE HIS FAMILY. They are going to do a freaking mufasa movie, in no time I can’t wait to have a Ursula movie where it’s discovered that ariel killed all of her family in cold blood or something’s. So you might say what’s the problem? I mean isn’t that supposed to make the story more interesting. No, no it doesn’t, because first they take all of the character personality traits and throw them in the bin, second they are supposed to be the vilain in a musical animated movies, I am not against complex villain, I love them, but by doing this, the original character doesn’t exist anymore. Just create original content with new interesting characters instead of doing stuff like this. Also it’s kind of funny than in all of those interpretation they take all the fun and sucks it out, what do I mean by fun, the gayness, Disney vilain are fun because they are camp, they are fabulous extravagant extra in all the ways possible, and that’s the reason we liked them. Not every character needs something super deep, like “my family was burned down at the stake and my dog was eaten by my ex”, sometimes we just like bad fun people, they are the story, and Hollywood hating them so bad just bothers me a lot. Also now the new thing is to not have a villain at all which can works in some narrative but not all of them, it gets boring after a while. In the past people were angry that villains are bland, but now I kind of miss it. While I will critique villains who have no purpose outside of being evil that’s dumb, like for example Voldemort is bland like white bread because his only motivation is being evil, but evil people do exist compared to what some Hollywood writers think, they should know. So that’s why I will put a difference between evil villains and villains whose only purpose is being evil; we loved Disney villains but they still had motivations, goals, reasons that to them a least were worth everything. World domination isn’t enough, why do you want world domination, what is the true reason deep in your heart, is it an inferiority complex, is it a savior complex fuelled by xenophobic beliefs.
That is how to write a pure evil villain, evil people exist all over the world, but I have never seen one who doesn’t have they own reasons to be so bad, it doesn’t excuse their actions nor really explains them. We do not want justifications we want explanations. If you are justifying evil behavior then do it, but don’t claim that it is a pure evil character. A pure evil character can be fun, can be interesting, he can be deep, it’s all about balancing all of their traits to truly make them greats. Which is why midori succeeds while current villains fail. Current stupid remake/spin off try to justify the behavior because they feel like this is what the audience wants, but it’s not what we need. So I will defend to the grave evil villains.
Creating an evil villain doesn’t make them boring guys.
Why the heck does big budget movies have either the blandest protagonist or the blandest villains sometimes both, like I said evil people do exist but comically evil character only works in satire not in a serious multiple millions of dollar movie. Example that boring ass avatar movie, the one with blue people, none of the characters are interesting the villain is one note. The lords of the rings also suffers from that, but I don’t care because the protagonist are so awesome that sauron being personality less doesn’t matter. Also sauron is more of a force of nature villains so it’s not the same. The recent kingsman movie has a bland one note villain, there is nothing entertaining, funny, about him he’s just evil, borrrrring. Every Disney remakes depiction of the characters are boring. I just feel bored out of my mind. Atla one of my favorite shows of all time has a main villain that’s kinda one note, Ozai, but he is actually intimidating guy, azula is the superior character, but I wouldn’t consider her a villain she is an antagonist though. I honestly don’t get why Hollywood thinks that just creating a character with no personality and whose only goals is to be evil is good.
So back to midori for a second, here is my question, when midori was on screen did you ever feel bored? Never right! Because despite midori being an evil character he has an actual personality, he’s fun, you want to punch him in the balls. Because midori has other personality traits than evil, midori is petty, childish, extremely intelligent, controlling, a natural manipulator, he is a trickster, he doesn’t seem to get some social norms, he is narcissistic, easily angry, and fears death etc See how I counted a lot of traits, traits that in other character would works, midori has positive traits, and I think that is the best thing nankidai could have ever done, midori has traits that a regular person could have. Which is why if I put midori in any settings his character would work.
Example, instead of a death game the cast is under the sea to discover the insane wildlife and supernatural stuff happening, what would midori do in this situation? Well he would very passionate about finding all of what’s happening, he’ll do anything to find out, even sometime sacrificing others, not only will he try to find what’s happening, but he is also going to try to find a way to make this discovery favour him in the end. Or let’s imagine it’s a vampire situation, where a vampire attacks  the city, midori would try to stop it, not because he cares, but to experiment on them to get their biology and finds the real secret of immortality since he fears death.
Here is my second advice, after creating your character try to imagine them in another completely different situation, like normal life, or a fantasy world, ask yourself the question what would they do in that environment? If you can find a real complete explanation of their actions then yes your character has multiples dimensions if not try thinking about it again. Some example of questions I do want to point out are some like “if my character had all the power in the world what would they do first or”, “if my character had only a day left to live what would they do”
Why is Current media incapable of creating good threats like bruhhhh.
Okay so first of all let’s talk about stakes in a story, let’s say you are watching a slasher movie, slowly the cast gets slimmed down and people die in horrible ways, that should set stakes right ? Well if the villain is an absolute buffoon who makes the stupidest actions and decisions in the world, you wouldn’t feel intimidated at all because despite what the filmmaker might try to say the plot armor will NEVER make a character intimidating. It’s just like a detective character who just seems to know everything without a thought, well you won’t really fear the character failing. Worse is the the final girl, who is for some reason always escaping the slasher guy by pure luck every time, she is shown as incompetent but still she survives, which make the villain seem completely incapable so now you feel nothing.
To avoid this filmmaker often use techniques such has unpredictability, I mean good I mean good ones, for example instead of immediately seeing whose going to survive because the black guys always dies first and the virgin white woman is the last survivor, change the status quo, make us think that this character is obviously safe while they actually aren’t at all. Or actually make them menacing by SHOWING to the audience how horrible dangerous they can be. Which is why SHOW DON’T TELL is so important, telling us how dangerous someone can be only to see them get beaten to death at the end of the movie makes us feel nothing.
Midori felt like a impossible person to beat, he is smart, had twenty plans in advance, even in situation where the cast felt like they might have a chance he was always armed, just like the gun he promised to use or the rocket punch. When they felt like they were finally advancing, he put obstacle in their ways, such as the collar game or the moment he put the collar on explode mode for  ranmaru. The entire point in the murder game was to make time pass, it took a long time for the cast top realize that this whole time they were losing precious time not realizing that the dummies were the real problem. The characters that made you feel the most hopeless were the dummies, if you won by killing midori they would die, but if you lost you might lose people you love (keiji or gin). It felt hopeless because they were no solutions in the end. That creates tension so that creates stakes. If we were told how dangerous unpredictable sou was then it wouldn’t hit the same, we are shown that he is that terrible. There is a scene ingame where bbg shin ai tells us that midori tortured and like to destroy people. That’s exposition so TELL, but do you why it works, because we are SHOWN before his behavior. Midori felt unbeatable, so the fact that we were shown his weakness such has his petty behavior, hatred of minors, and fear of death, for the first time it feels like there is a chance that we might survive this. And still after he isn’t shown has an incompetent buffoon, he is one, but the narrative doesn’t show us that he is.
What is also consider is good to make the audience feel actual stakes is to first really develop well the main characters, how can we feel worry for a character if we don’t know them, the audience need to feels emotional connection to the main cast to actually care. You can use things such has moments where there is nothing special happening just character talking getting to know them. Make us feel why we need to care about them possibly losing, instead of being indifferent. Or I don’t know maybe make an entire spin off game where we get to have the cast talk to each other and seeing dynamics between character that died early to get them a chance to shine and make their death even more tragic, or even make mini episodes of characters who only got a single chapter to show off their characteristic, to get us to know them better? But that’s just a silly idea of course, wink, and wink.
My favorite thing about Midori is that he is actually pathetic, like really pathetic, but weirdly realistic?
Midori is the most pathetic character in the cast, yes more than shin, shin is leagues less pathetic. No I’m not saying that midori is not intimidating or scary, I would piss myself if I saw him. He’s a scary guy. But if you look at him more closely you can see that he is a baby brat in a big boy suit.
So let’s start by something clear, Sou Hiyori clearly displays antisocial behavior, or in common terms he is a psychopath/sociopath, this illness is very badly seen in medias, I am not saying that people who lacks empathy like him are inherently bad, he is, a lot of people with antisocial behavior actually suffers a lot and have a difficult life. Sou real issues is not his antisocial behavior, it’s his narcissism and god complex. Sou feels the need to HAVE CONTROL over others, he like the feeling of being in power, he sees the rest of the world has beneath him, toys for his pleasure. He says that he “really like humans” because despite it all he seems to put himself in a different categories than regular people, they are beneath him. When he loses control his calm and cool behavior disappears and we see his true face, a grown man who has throws a tantrum like a baby. One of the best representation of this is midori views on the cast:
Midori hates kanna, like no jokes he has beef with her, a fourteen years old, actually he has beef with a lot of people in the cast. Midori views emotional people has weak, people who are loving optimistic as beneath him and useless. He preferred when sara was cruel and horrible, that’s what he loved about her, he liked seeing her scary emotionless side. But Kanna, kanna is everything he hates. A crybaby who not only puts the group in harmony, is a source of hope in general, is the reason he near got to have closure with shin (killing him), he views kanna as “not fun shin”. We have many proofs for this, if you type the word kanna kizuchi he says this: “Poor Kanna'd weep! I think a more worthless name would be better for someone like me” He mocks her, but also himself (I’lll come back on this later), he calls her worthless. Also in the electric charge minigame, when he can choose who to shocks he chooses two people in particular, kanna who he hates and hinako who ruined his fun by giving the cast a chance in saving ranmaru. But he does also says mean spirited stuff to other people, qtaro and gin. He also says some sarcastic comments about nao and joe, saying that it’s such a shame that they died so young. But you might say why kanna especially? Because he is a petty baby who is jealous of kanna, Yes jealous, of kanna, a fourteen years old. Because he feels like she stole his hubby wubby shin away from him…. God I hate him. And you know what that make him a pathetic idiot, after the scene where kanna beats his ass, he’s all mad and like “uhh I’m going to pout I wanted you to cry like a lot, now I’m gonna cry”. An that’s actually god, because it humanize him, he wants need thoughts, he isn’t one note, and that’s the most important!
Sou is a villain but before that he is a character, a fully developed character, and THAT’S WHAT MAKE HIM GREAT, Sou works because he works realistically, I mean if you forget the robot part, it’s easy to imagine a narcissist man child who needs to feel in power towards other, so his main prey are young vulnerable people.Which leads me to my next point:
Sou is a failure like really, and we aren’t sad for him.
Sou failed everything he worked on, he failed to get the paper from alice, he failed whith shin since he had to leave earlier than he thought he would leave, because of his mistake he lost his position in the death game, then he failed to kill gin or keiji, and then he died like an idiot losing his cool and acting like a toddler. And he knows it that why he is a bit self-hating (he should be). And yet none of us feel any sympathy towards him, why? Because sou is one of the most despicable guy in existence. He is a disgusting pervert, sadistic asshole, and abusive narcissistic cunt who thinks he is better than everyone. From the bottom of my heart I hate him sooooo much he is literally the character I hate the most in existence. He abused shin, ruined keiji’s life, traumatized the entire cast, literally assaulted sara like he physically assaulted her. He mocked nao and joe and kugie life as useless. He is an obsessive jerk AND I HATE HIM. And you know what…… It’s good. Like I actually feel a lot of emotions when I think about him, he fuels me with anger and disgust, and if your characters can make me feel that much rage then you did it, you created an actual perfect character. Hiyori is such a shit person that I think about him a lot, writers shouldn’t be scared to make a character such hittable assholes, example bojack horseman in bojack horseman is the vilest man on earth and I love it, because I genuinely hate him. Just like I genuinely love kanna, like really I really love her, I in the same time despise midori so bad. We hate him because he is horrible to good people that WE KNOW AND CARE ABOUT, not random npcs. There is a lot of… disgusting implications in his story with shin that I will not talk about it makes me really uncomfortable right now. SO HERE IS A VERY TACKY TRANSITION TO TALK ABOUT WHY I HATE JUNKO FROM DANGANRONPA.
Junko is boring, that’s it, she is boring, not funny not interesting, she is a fetish, she is the biggest Mary sue on earth, she is a gross character made to make fun of people with disabilities and queer people. Her only traits is being crazy, that’s it. I wouldn’t call midori that crazy actually, he’s methodical calculated, and precise. Crazyness is a term for people who aren’t in control of their actions and delusional about reality, sou is not crazy, he knows what he is doing, he is in full control, while characters like shin should actually be consider crazy, like shin is actually crazy but sou isn’t.
Conclusion:
Sou is a breath of fresh air, because nankidai had the balls to write an actually interesting deep and threatening character AND make him a villain. He didn’t fall into the trap of making him have a sad backstory or good motives, sou is just selfish, that’s all he is. He make him a fun entertaining guy who you absolutely hates, he made him threatening and at the same time a complete doofus. He made him humane and pathetic.
But the thing that make me love nankidai the most is this
Tumblr media
The fact that he actually killed him that takes courage as a writer to just end a character THAT WAY, which is why midori will never come back alive he is forever dead. And that take a lot of talents as a writer to just take one of the most important characters and just get him drilled to death in the anus, like dammn nankidai you are a savage. That fact alone makes him one of the best characters in game, I hate him as a person, but has a character he is a masterpiece.
Though Kanna could solo him

I think the reason why a lot of people do not like Noah's acting in S4 is because they feel uncomfortable with the way he is portraying gayness.
The intense pining, the stares, the sad puppy eyes, the selfless feelings, the crying...
Noah's portrayal feels very real and genuine. He portrays Will's love for Mike as something true, strong and unbreakable. And the GA is not used to that. They are not used to see a gay character experiencing those beautiful feelings. Those are normally reserved for het couples. And hell, even the majority of het characters in media do not express feelings that are this intense.
And it scares them. It really really scares them.
They wish Noah's acting was more subtextual, or that the Duffers would quickly close this gay storyline so that the light could be on their favourite straight couple again.
S5 is gonna be glorious and i cannot wait

I’m sure you’ve seen pictures like this one over the internet in the form of memes, in self-declared manifestos and articles that claim to be from the queer community.
Tumblr media
Looks like it’s Jigen asking Lupin, right? This does indeed get sold to the internet as if Jigen is asking Lupin such a big question.
The actual scene:
I posted a while ago an example of a very piss-poor translation of a chapter from the original manga that is used by the same people who write this so called propaganda as evidence of ‘gayness’ going on with these characters. You can read it here, TokyoPop simply made a poor job but that also is, apparently, taken seriously and spread all over the internet.
It all could be easily dismissed with a laugh because in the end the show itself is meant to be fun and being in the fandom should be fun but I keep asking myself if this fandom attitude qualifies as queerbaiting. What’s sad is that it comes from other fans who are... in good faith??? (color me suspicious) fooling people into believing things that are not there.
I’m sorry to have to say this but apparently there are some who actually trick people who are invested in certain characters and who might be fragile. People who, right because of this propaganda based on wrong translations, fake pictures, jokes being taken too seriously and too far and cultural misunderstandings, might end up deluded and hurt.
The list of these ‘misunderstandings’ or even misrepresentations can go quite on, here you get just the basic idea.
We’re all up in arms when queerbaiting comes from the powers that be authors and producers but when it comes from allegedly fellow fans is maybe even worse.
“Propaganda” in itself is already a bad word, if you need propaganda to convince people through memes plastered all over the internet that’s another sign that something is wrong. Not to mention most people only know the characters through the internet grapevine and therefore completely out of context, because by their own admission, they don’t even watch the show.
These characters have been around since the 60s, in Japan... I wouldn't even go near them being 'coded' because it could mean having to code them in a really bad way.
Feel free to share your view.

, Ragatha would willingly hold your hand walking you to your room as you and her chatter about interests.
, When Jax puts a centipede into her room, She goes to yours and you both cuddle. Or you grab the centipede and force Jax to eat it.
POMNI
, Pomni isn't too fond of physical touch, So i'd like to imagine her giving you gifts more often and acts of service as a sign of gratitude of you being there for her.
, I head-canon she doesn't talk much, So she listens to you a lot and sometimes rambles about finding an exit and possibly marrying each other.
, You and her probably had a slow burn, Or you two knew each other before the headset thing happened but even after memory loss you guys didn't lose the love you had for each other.
, I feel like she'd listen to rock or break stuff to let her anger out, So if your ever angry she takes you to her room and you both break random shit for reasons you both cannot comprehend.
, Pomni is willing to hug or lock arms with you sometimes if you knew her for an extremely large amount of time because she knows you well.
, Has daily dreams of you and her being set free from the digital purgatory and getting married and having a pet animal because i feel like shes asexual and wouldn't want a child, But would adopt one.
, Would rabidly beat the fuck out of Jax if she found out he traumatized you, Or if he bullied you.

I know no one will read this but omfg
So today I watched back to back 2 vry sad and hot lesbian romance movies (Tell It To The Bees then A Portrait of The Lady On Fire) and yes I balled my eyes out at both abortion scenes it was so sad and both ended bittersweet
So only for me to come on tumblr and find all this new context for 911 s7 so I scroll thru the #911 s7 tag and find some stuff about 100th episode, proceed to look it up and literally started crying out of happiness bc like wtffff
Abandon ‘Ships
Rock The Boat
Capsized
Buck, Bothered and Bewildered
You Don’t Know Me
.
.
Sit with that.
BUCK BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED
And I know in this they mean cruise ship but come on everyone knows a ship is relationship so abandon ships?? Abandon buddie ship? Abandon Buck and Natalia Eddie and marisol ships?? (Sorry if wrong names) rock the boat like buddie start to happen and they argue, capsize as something goes wrong like bad reaction to confession or something like that then Buck bothered and bewildered his sadness about unrequited love???? You Don’t Know Me buddie ends bad/starts beginning of canon??? THEN WE WAIT FOR 2 WEEKS?!?!
I think I’m actually going insane and I know so many tumblr blogs explain this much better but this is me freaking tf out 😆 I literally cried of happiness when I first saw the names earlier like esp after sad gayness the past few hours from them sad lesbian films :/ I was fr 🥹🥹
And I was so energized I went downstairs and played piano to Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered and omg the lyrics are so fucking sad I- ✋

wow your gaylor anon does sound well-meaning, but very lost on this blog from their usual side of the internet I’d guess!
I’m particularly bamboozled by those three songs being used as kaylor breakup evidence. well, less so exile, I can see how they got there even if I have a different interpretation of it (mourning the called-off coming out, and having to go deeper into the love blackout, ruminating on the fans view of her closet). but mtr!? clearly about scott b! the stolen lullabies, the jewels she gave him as his main cash cow? the pain of that betrayal by a father figure!! also the funeral procession choreo - ties nicely into your point about taylor wearing black for the stolen masters. there’s also a long history of writing romantic-coded ‘break up songs’ for your label, think dolly parton etc. and mad woman?! the obvious scooter and yael diss track where taylor outs his cheating (which potentially contributed to their divorce not long after). does anon completely miss the feminist angle of ‘this man gaslights me by calling me mad and overreactive, so I’ll show him a real mad woman’ ???? (+ karlie as the taylor-faced neighbour who secretly mouths ‘fuck you’ at him)
I know we’re all known for reaching in the gaylor-sphere, but by occam’s razor, I feel like you have to do some real twisting to believe those ones aren’t about those men.
(I actually wrote out my personal interpretation of each song in more depth but it’s wayy too long, and probably just a repeat of opinions anon could find on this blog and others in this ecosystem. anon has given me far too many thoughts to write on my lunch break rn lol)
yeah i didn’t address the song choices but mtr is a wild one for sure. and mad woman i’ve talked about a lot but really i think that song is actually proof in favor of the idea that they didn’t break up in 2019. plus the thing about the i can and i will necklace.
exile too, especially when you couple it with the other bon iver duet (evermore) and think about the context of the election in 2016 (upon which karlie got exiled in a way) and again in 2020 (taylor connected evermore to the feeling of knowing biden would win over trump, and knowing the pain wouldn’t be for evermore), and idk it just makes so much sense in the context of how their relationship would have had to adapt and change over the years, without having to be about breaking up.
i’m not saying anon thinks any one certain way but i do think that gaylors in general have, of their own volition and theyre happy to tell you, positioned gaylorism as something focused on the exploration of the gayness of taylor’s lyrics and of it being ‘museless’ and i would suggest that while there is value to this sort of think in a vacuum, by refuting other analysis unfortunately this ‘lens’ often makes for a contextless interpretation of so many of taylor’s songs. like if you think about the political angle and the times taylor was in or karlie was in throughout this specific span of time, a lot of these sad song just make so much sense! maathp makes sense! maroon makes sense! exile makes sense, hoax makes sense, mad woman makes sense, vigilante shit makes sense, any number of songs make a whole lot of sense. i don’t think that this is something offensive to taylor like… in essence kaylor is an attempt to understand the impetus behind the artist, her motivations, and what inspired her to create so much of this art. idk, im babbling a bit again it’s just. ahh… there’s just so much meaning that gets lost in the gaylor process i feel.

I really like that in What Did You Eat Yesterday? being straight-passing is seen as sad and unfavorable.
Wataru comments that with Kenji and himself, people just assume they are gay, so they don't have to come out each time unlike Shiro who is constantly having to tell people he is gay because they assume he is straight. Wataru also lightly mentions how people don't believe Shiro is gay even when he tells them since he is straight-passing. Even Shiro's gay friends ask if he is bi because he doesn't feel gay enough even to his boyfriend.
The show makes several comments on the spectrum of queerness, but normally, straight-passing is seen as optimal, but here, it is presented as an unconscious and miserable existence. To Wataru, Shiro isn't trying to act straight, he just comes across like that, which is even worse to him.
It really made me think about Step by Step's Jeng and Be My Favorite's Pisaeng vs. Step by Step's Chot and Be My Favorite's Max. Jeng and Pisaeng have to come out each time because nobody believes they are gay men. They have to prove their gayness. Chot and Max don't. People see them and assume they are gay, and nobody would question if they are gay enough.
There is a lot of negativity surrounding "obvious queerness" in a heteronormative society but having What Did You Eat Yesterday? suggest that it is something not only positive but desirable, is mind bending.

I know you are anti Remadora so ignore this question if you don't feel like addressing this topic but I saw you talking about them before so I figured it might be OK to ask. How would you feel about an AU version where they get together under very different circumstances, when they are both ready, and there is no pressure, no emotional manipulation, no rushing into things, etc.? So I guess my question is: do you hate Remadora period or do you hate the way their relationship was written in canon? Because for me it's the latter, and I can't ship it if it's canon compliant but I love Remus and Tonks as individuals, and although I ship Wolfstar too, I think there is great potential in their dynamic. It's a straight presenting relationship but in my head they're both queer and I think that's important to note, too.
this is a great question i got back in december, wrote half an essay for, then left in my drafts. i was reminded by the chaos discord of it so dug it out, finished the essay and voila. so i hope you follow me anon and get to enjoy my response to your question
tl;dr - i would never want to read remus and tonks together because remus is gay. gay identity and history is central to his characterisation, as is his relationship with sirius. remus's meaning and impact comes from that, and it's both a beautiful and sad story that resonates with so many gay people
jkr forced his relationship with tonks into being deliberately to try and erase remus's gay identity. she didn't write a meaningful loving relationship with a woman that would have characterised him as bisexual. if she had, then that relationship wouldn't have made remus 'less gay'. it would have been another facet woven in with a broader queer identity. but she didn't. remus did not want to be with tonks, and he was miserable the entire time. he was manipulated into being with her by the bastion of the cishet nuclear family molly weasley, and was only finally happy when he had a son and finally fitted the traditional family friendly cishet mold and said goodbye to his gayness forever
so a story with remus and tonks erases remus's gay identity because it's portraying him as something that he isn't and it plays into the homophobia of jkr in writing it to start with
i have ✨ expanded ✨ on this below with three main points:
1. remus is gay
2. gay history and identity is central to remus's characterisation
3. remus’s story is defined by his relationship with sirius
remus’s sexuality
the biggest question of all is whether remus is into women or not. I don’t think there’s an argument that he is based on his relationship with tonks. this is obviously a subject that can be talked about in great depth, but the key point is that he doesn’t show any interest in her, rejects her again and again, and is miserable when they're married. there’s nothing to indicate any romantic feelings or sexual attraction on his part, any desire to be emotionally or physically intimate, any sense that she understands him in a deep and unique way, or really that she brings him any joy
beyond tonks, I think he’s characterised as not into women generally. he never performs/acts/presents himself in any way for the female gaze - it’s not just about not actively trying to attract women, there is literally no way in which he ever acts like he seems concerned with what women think or passively adopts traits to please them. he also doesn’t have any intense relationships with women that we know of, or any moments of chemistry or tension with women. all of his intense feelings and interactions are with men. all of this is characteristic of the experience of being a gay person
the centrality of gay identity and history to remus's story
remus’s life encapsulates the loneliness and hardship of being gay in the 70s/80s/90s. the marginalisation, the secrecy, the danger of being found out, the suspicion. he is a character constantly carrying a Big Secret, and he’s shaped himself to develop layers of self-control, discretion and manipulation that keep any potentially revealing emotions or personal details safely hidden. he goes out of his way to avoid visibly making trouble or raising his head above the parapet, to present himself as perfectly respectable, which was (and often still is) a fundamental part of existing as gay in a homophobic society, to counter any perceptions of being a predator or untrustworthy or abnormal
and it is a deliberate performance, bc we know quite clearly how much trouble he’s making under the surface - he hides the knowledge of padfoot and the map from dumbledore, he revels in gaslighting snape when he finds the map on harry, his first action when he sees peter and sirius on the map is not to inform the authorities, but to run to them himself and keep it a secret. he’s a mischievous, deviant, sarcastic, often morally grey troublemaker, but no one for a second (except sirius) would ever see that in him
but despite all remus's attempts at respectability, he still is marginalised. he’s fundamentally seen as a dangerous freak, someone who shouldn’t be allowed near children or polite society lest he corrupt them, which is such a metaphor for homophobia (and esp against gay men) it punches you in the face. he’s trapped in poverty despite his education and assumed family wealth and is forced to rely on others for financial security. like so many other gay people throughout history his safety entirely comes from his community, bc he can’t rely on any institutional support - and when it disappears, as it does in 1981, he’s left poor, unsafe and adrift
and then there’s sirius
sirius and remus
remus's entire life from when he joins hogwarts to when he dies is shaped by sirius
he goes from a lonely, marginalised boy to someone loved and valued by his friends, to the point they perform incredibly dangerous and illegal magic just to try and reach him in the aspect of his life that's most painful and isolating. this is largely due to sirius and james. there's not much we know about remus's relationship then with sirius specifically, other than that sirius was both affectionately teasing and affectionately rude towards him (from swm). the rest is extrapolation from how close they are as adults. but the story that we do get is one that wouldn’t exist without sirius
remus then spends thirteen years tortured by the knowledge of what sirius has done that he still can't quite accept, as well as the knowledge of what sirius is going through as the a prisoner in azkaban. he doesn't ever come close to moving on - he loses his shit every time harry brings up sirius; he questions whether sirius, despite being an alleged mass murderer, really deserves azkaban; he is incredibly stressed and anxious to the point of noticeably losing weight the entirety of PoA, which is not just down to lycanthrophy. his entire mental state (and to an extent his physical one) is dictated by sirius
then the moment there's even a hint that sirius might not have committed the crimes alleged remus drops everything and runs. he faces sirius for the first time in thirteen years and believes him instantly. he's at sirius's side defending him and working with him with an astonishing amount of trust for someone he thought (at least partially) was guilty not an hour before. that's a mark of how deep his love and devotion goes, and how much he was simply waiting around for sirius all those years
we have no idea what remus does in GoF, but we do know by OotP he once again drops everything for sirius and moves into an absolutely miserable house to live alongside him. there's no reason for him to be there other than sirius (no one else in the order needs to live there, after all). every scene he's in, every bit of dialogue in that book is related to sirius. when he's saying goodbye to harry after christmas his advice is a subtle reference to sirius. they give harry a joint christmas present, they take care of him together. they exist entirely as partners
after sirius dies, remus completely falls apart. every time we see him through harry's eyes he's worse and worse. by the christmas of harry's sixth year remus is referring to werewolf tribes murdering humans for fun as his 'equals' and has clearly lost all sense of self-worth or reason for being. he's such a wreck he's emotionally manipulated into marrying a woman he doesn't want to and then is an absolutely terrible husband the entire time. even when his son is born, he's still acting thinking of sirius - he asks harry to be teddy's godfather, emulating the example sirius set
remus is who he is because of his relationship with sirius, one that is far, far too intense to be just platonic
conclusion
there is no way i, personally, would ever be comfortable with a remadora relationship. even if they were similar ages or got to know each other in a different context, it still wouldn't be realistic. remus is gay, that entire relationship came about with the intention to straight wash him. putting him together with any woman bothers me, but putting him together with tonks specifically upsets me because of the homophobic background for why that relationship even exists in canon
there are a lot of relationships we can quibble about as to whether they work or not, and that's fair. remadora is one of them. but the extra layer of jkr's homophobia in forcing them together can't be separated from that discussion. some people may view their relationship as meaningful in spite of that. that's fine, we're all entitled to our own headcanons. it's not mine, and there is no story i want to read where remus is with tonks. there's no story i want to read where he isn't gay, full stop

Shaz, they went to home and fucked hard this day 🌚🌚🌚🌚
Look at my ever pretty Minie.. he was so beautiful that day 😍 and he's trying to take away his gaze from that man.
Look at JK, he looked damn hot and handsome that day. He looks like he'll lose that single ounce of control in his body any second. His sexual energy was so high that even Lizkookers used that clip of him with their girlie. (Funny thing is no one knows this Jkk clip but both Fandoms know that one cursed lizkook edit 😭)
And mimi casually landing on his lap 👍
Another analysis yeei!
Tumblr media
Anon the way I ran when I saw the F word 😂😂
I hate my mind 🤦🏽‍♀️
Anyway, actually anon i don't think this was one of those steamy nights.. I think it was the complete opposite where they went to bed a bit sad actually 😔 and had one of those pillow talks about how sometimes they hate being in the closet and what not. About how they always have to tone down Jikookery when other members can do what they want.
Okay, okay, okay. What I'm I talking about? Let's rewind.
First we have Jimin staring at JK, right?
Tumblr media
But what everyone misses is how Jimin rolls his eyes after. You can actually see it clearly on anon's zoomed in version here. Timestamp 0.21
youtube
So I don't think that stare was about Jimin admiring his extremely gorgeous man like many people think. Even though we can't forget how good JK looked damn 🔥
Tumblr media
That is one gorgeous man right there. I bet Mimi didn't know what hit him. Oh! I interrupt this programme to bring up this edit of JK and how hard puberty hit him in 2014.
That's the same fucking year y'all. Jimin slept one night thinking JK was cute and adorable, seeing him as his baby brother. And then one day he woke up and was like 👁👃🏽👁 JK's glow up is no joke. I'm sure Jimin didn't know what to do when his platonic affection took a turn. Ha haa! Poor Mimi really didn't know what hit him 🤭🤭
Back to analysis.
Here we have Jimin scratching and that's when he notices how close JK's hand is.
Tumblr media
Which is when he decides to nudge him. Hard to tell if JK feels that, because he doesn't react. But Jimin was real subtle and I'm impressed Jikookers caught this.
So what do we have here?
Okay so word on the street is that Jimin and JK had been talked to before these interviews and told to watch themselves. Tbf its not just Jikook who are supposed to calm down when members are in the US. They're all supposed to 'behave'. They know in the West people will interprete their skinship for gayness so they're usually pretty tame especially during interviews. On stage though it's a whole different story 😂😂
Anyway, JK wasn't happy about this. Which is a bit confusing since this clearly isn't new. So idk why he felt some type of way about this particular time. U can tell by how he was during this interview. If we are being honest JK is usually much more chipper and loud and happier than this during English interviews. There were many moments where RM, V and Jimin were yelling randomly and we all know usually JK is part of the random shouting. But this time he wasn't feeling it. He didn't even talk that much.
If this rumor/theory is to be believed, then it would explain why JK was down and also why Jimin rolled his eyes at him, no? Like "this brat" Or maybe he was rolling his eyes at the situation?
Idk but I do think this was to make JK feel better.
Tumblr media
RM and V were not impressed by that at all. Which again, I believe is because they had been told not to Jikook at all and here goes Jimin doing that 👆🏽 Also it totally wasn't necessary 😂🤭
But can we really blame him? Jimin saw his man was upset and didn't give a shit so he took his shot.
We already know Jimin placates JK alot. Or gives into his wishes to make him happy. If Jimin is doing something JK doesn't like, we have seen JK nudge Jimin or look at him some type of way or stared at him until Jimin stopped what he was doing. Jimin is a great boyfriend y'all. 🤗🤗
So Jimin randomly lying on JK's lap, couple that with that one subtle nudge where he tried to touch JK... I think this theory makes sense. I know some Jikookers think they were fighting, and JK was trying to reach out, but I think JK just really wanted to touch Jimin. I don't think they were fighting at all. Jikook as a couple were fine. It's just that the closet can be a bit suffocating sometimes.
Anyway, to summarize: Jikook were told not to well...Jikook. JK was not happy. (He never is) Jimin dropped on his lap to make him feel better. The end.
As usual, draw your own conclusions 😘

fan fiction got me to finish watching The Talented Mr. Ripley.
I think I stopped around the second murder. I was just like ehhhh I can't handle this & also I miss Dickie.
I think I was also frustrated with Tom Ripley containing so much sweet gayness & also sociopathic violence. I think I just imagined my mom or someone who's still kind of homophobic seeing the movie & going "Yup. I knew it! Gayness corrupts! Poor straight Jude Law. Ugh Tom Ripley is such a deranged gay."
I think it was my fear of someone thinking that the gayness & the derangedness/wrongness of Ripley went together that upset me.
so anyway! I stopped watching the movie & didn't think I would finish.
but then I couldn't sleep so was like "Hey I'll see if there's any good Ripley fanfic."
I expected lots of Tom/Dickie, but there was practically none of that! instead it was Peter Peter Peter.... "Who the heck is Peter???" I thought.
so I went back to the movie for Peter. & shit. I love him so so so much. just like. look at him in that last scene when he still thinks he's safe.
he's in his pyjamas so sweet & cozy looking over his music scores or whatev. & he's like softly heartbroken because he just saw Tom kissing a girl. & he's calling him out on it but he's more sad than angry. he thought they had something. legit 5 min ago Tom was telling him this is the happiest he's ever been....
anyway! the ending. fuck. fuck. fuck.
Tom kills his chance at happiness. he's alone in the dark place he hides all his secrets in. that scene is the most horrible thing ever. the way Peter never even gets angry-- just confused. even as it's happening he cannot conceive that Tom is doing it on purpose.
& the way Tom is crying! oh my god.
so. what do I think of this movie?
I don't even know anymore.
part of me is like Ahh this is potentially harmful for how people see gay people.
& another part of me is like Holy shit this shows how hiding yourself/your queerness/trying not to take up space as your true self is actually slowly killing you/disappearing you/destroying your love & all that is good in you... the magic needs fresh air or it curdles...
& also this story is so weird!! queer stories shouldn't have to be all happy & shiny & good....
so. ambivalent?
& for some reason-- utterly obsessed.

Not Proofread , but did just wake up and was gayness. Gayness isn't a choice, it's a lifestyle.
I.. think I pulled my arm writing this??? I write on Notes on my phone but it only hurt after I was halfway through?? Jeez louise. Pulled a muscle writing fanfiction. Doesn't that sound wrong.
steve harrington fluffy boi
--------
- Steve lives for kissing you. Anywhere. Your lips, forehead, scalp, nose, neck, shoulders- He was in a hurry one time and just kissed your eyebrow and left!
- He adores sleeping with you. You're warm. And soft. And he LOVES it! He likes to completely tangle himself with you, so if you're sleeping expect him to shift his legs alot to get more comfortable.
- You get to have one rent-free tape at Family Video at most once a week. Don't tell. He would so get fired, and he's on thin ice. Dating in the Scoops Ahoy era? Free Icecream. Wherever he works you better believe you're getting something free from there.
- He a little slow sometimes so if you're being too cryptic for him he gets frustrated. Just kiss his nose and start again, but don't slow your talking or put any more emphasis on the words, like he's deaf. He can understand the words just fine, it's the situation and backstory bits he needs!
- Very touch. Much touch. Give touch. He holds you by your waist a lot and likes to be holding something most of the time. He's honestly touch starved and in denial about it.
- Lives for praise and compliments. Feed his ego a little! Tell him how much you love him! Tell him you're proud of him! Tell him he did a good job! He likes it a lot and his happy to reciprocate it as often as he can.
- Very cuddly. Again, he likes to be touching you, and cuddling is no exception. Sometimes he just stands there hugging you. When he sees someone he loves, he usually goes for the neck and they are forced to upper torso. He just does it accidentally.
- Lives for you to just sit on his lap. Whether you're watching a movie, playing video games, or anything else, use your personal couch cushion. He also likes when you stradle him and play with his hair and kiss all over his face.
- He's definetly not too much of a PDA guy. He... it's still kinda embedded into his brain that same-sex couples aren't really.. allowed in public from his high school days of putting up a front. He definetly pecks your cheek a lot in public, if you're somewhere away from prying eyes. He will still end up walking, standing, and sitting very close to you as the pair of you do things in public.
- The kids have a dad now! With Steve as their mom, it's only perfect that now he's no longer living the single-mother lifestyle! The kiddos adore you, and are maybe more confortablewith you then him. Max, noteably, REALLY likes you. Hang out with her some. She needs a little guidance sometimes, still.
- Robin likes to tease you. A lot. A lot, a lot. Like a lo- She just thinks you two are adorable, and to her you two are the second-best-secret-couple in Hawkins! (First being her and Vicki, of course )
- He likes to take long drives with you to anywhere. For a few hours, a day, a week, even a month if you want to travel. It's a great time to bond and just hang out. He definetly ones to take all of the kids ib the show on one huge trip with you that isn't just to save the world.
- Speaking of kids.
- Man WANTS some. He would love to foster kids of all ages in the future, and hopes you're okay with at least three children in the house at almost all times. He loves kids a lot, obviously, and since you both can't physically have them, he just wants to hold kids who really need a place to stay.
- If you're sad, he wants ti cheer you up! He's not very good at it, but sometimes he accidentally cheers you up when he tries his best to di something and it isn't working very well. Watching him try just makes you love him more!
- When he's sad, he's distant. He doesn't always do it on purpose, and sometimes its not really obvious. A little space between you, less love shared, and he tends to brush things off a lot when he's upest. Just let him work through them, and it'll go quicker than an intervention. If he does something that hurts you, or is unacceptable, tell him. He may be sad but it isn't an excuse to do things. He may be a little bitter about it at first, but he'll apoligize.
- If he accidentally makes you cry, which he has done, you better believe he is crying too. Mostly from stress and guilt, and believe it or not he cries really easily when others start crying. He feels fucking horrible. He ends up leaving you alobe until you let him in, and then he's just awkwardly apologizing. He doesn't know how to fix it, sometimes, and feels like a screw-up.
- Honestly he's a straight-forward lover, and is very loyal. He would never do anything to purposefully hurt you. 9/10, would reccomend.

Fic: Blessing (Spring/Summer 2012)
Fandom/pairing: Glee, pre-Kurt/Blaine
Event: December Klaine Fanworks Challenge 2023, day 19: assist
Words: ~ 1250 words
Rating: Teen and up
Summary: During his junior year of high school, Kurt receives a glimpse of his future through his patriarchal blessing.
Notes: This is part of my Mormon!Klaine universe and a new chapter in Small Things, which I thought I had completed in 2015. Back then, I wrote some notes around Kurt's patriarchal blessing, but it was too fragmented to include—I had a deadline for a fandom event, so I didn't have time to polish it up. On a chapter of Out of Eden I recently posted, @georgiegems asked about patriarchal blessings and why Blaine’s was so significant to him, so I figured now is the time to write that part of Kurt's story out. (This is NOT a spoiler for Out of Eden.)
You can read here or on AO3. The AO3 version includes what's here plus the complete text of Kurt’s patriarchal blessing.
-------------
“I’ve been praying about you,” Bishop Longquist says to Kurt one Sunday a few weeks after Kurt comes out. “I think it’s time you had your patriarchal blessing.”
A patriarchal blessing only comes once in a person’s lifetime. It’s a piece of personal scripture—a message from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to a faithful member of the church, delivered through an ordained member of the priesthood called a patriarch.
Kurt is caught off guard. He only came out to the bishop two months ago. The bishop was so loving and so understanding that Kurt felt prompted, a few weeks later, to confess what happened with Karofsky. That went well, too—maybe even better than Kurt wanted it to go. Kurt felt dirty and like he needed to repent, but Bishop Longquist said it wasn't Kurt’s fault, so he had nothing to repent of. Kurt knows what the bishop said made sense, but he still feels like there should be some kind of time requirement between getting kissed by a boy and receiving something so important as a patriarchal blessing. “Shouldn’t I wait a little longer?”
“The time to hear the Lord’s guidance for your life is now, don’t you think?”
“But I’m …” They’re in the hallway. A group of women stand outside the Relief Society room. Boys are filing past them in twos and threes to priesthood quorum. He lowers his voice. “My problem.”
Bishop Longquist smiles. It’s a sad, knowing smile, full of love and carrying the weight of the world with it because of that love. “You’re worthy, Kurt.”
A few weeks later, Kurt and Burt and Carole drive up to Toledo to where the patriarch lives. Kurt’s never met him before. His house is large, practically a mansion, and overlooking Maumee Bay. The patriarch’s wife is in a pink rayon dress with box pleats in the skirt. She wears pearls around her neck. She guides them to the home office and sets glasses of ice water on coasters that line the edge of the patriarch’s desk.
The patriarch himself has white hair, white skin, and a dark suit with an understated gray silk tie. He’s exactly what Kurt expected.
They sit on opposite sides of the desk, talking for a few minutes about school and Kurt’s longing to go on a mission. He can’t bring himself to let go of Carole’s hand, even though his own is raining sweat. Kurt skirts over glee club and doesn't mention his interest in fashion or the fact that he finds so much beauty in other boys. He’s not ashamed of being gay, exactly, but he doesn't want to arouse this stranger’s suspicions. It's not like God is likely to mention it anywhere during the patriarchal blessing—his gayness might be part of who he is on earth, but it's probably not part of his eternal character—so there's no need to bring it up at all.
The patriarch explains that the blessing comes from Heavenly Father, not from him. He is merely the vessel. He listens for God’s voice, which he occasionally hears in the form of words, but more often in the form of spiritual impressions. When he receives the impressions, he translates them into his own words, much like Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from Reformed Egyptian, a language he did not speak, through the power of God. His wife will record and transcribe the blessing, and copies will be sent both to Kurt and to church headquarters. The church will make three digital copies of the blessing and store them in three different places, and a microfilm copy will also be preserved in a secure vault. That means that if Kurt ever loses his personal copy, or if his progeny in the future should like a copy, they can always get one from the church. Kurt can also make as many copies as he wants of the blessing he receives, so that he always has it on hand to study and to bring comfort to him. “But keep it out of the way of wandering eyes,” the patriarch advises. “This is personal scripture, and you should not let others read it outside your family. You may sometimes be prompted to share a general message from your blessing with another person, but when you do this, do not repeat the exact words or go into specific details lest they take it on as the word of God for themselves. No one can assist in interpreting another person's patriarchal blessing for them. If you have questions about what anything in your blessing means, pray to Heavenly Father for guidance.”
The patriarch says a short prayer, inviting the Holy Ghost to be with them. He asks Kurt to pray, too. Kurt’s so nervous, he has no idea what he says.
Then it’s time. Burt and Carole scoot their chairs back a little to give the patriarch room. The patriarch’s wife sets a digital recorder on top of the desk and makes sure it’s on. Kurt takes deep breath after deep breath, preparing himself for the moment the patriarch is going to lay his hands on him. Even after all these years in the church, he’s not quite used to people touching him at these intimate, spiritual moments. His body wasn’t wired that way—not unless it’s someone who knows him inside and out, like his mom and Dad and Carole, and sometimes Mercedes.
Kurt closes his eyes and bows his head, feels the warmth of the patriarch’s hands radiating near him before they actually make contact. They’re so warm, Kurt thinks of fire, and then The Spirit of God like a fire is burning! It’s the first line of a hymn Kurt’s been singing before he even knew how to read, and when the next lines follow—The latter-day glory begins to come forth; The visions and blessings of old are returning—he knows the Holy Ghost is already there with them in the room, in Kurt’s heart, witnessing that this blessing is from God.
Kurt feels the words more than hears them. The blessing gives him flashes of his past and his future: the safety of the preexistence, living beside his Heavenly Parents without fear or desire; the wise face of Ephraim, from whom he and his parents and the greatest tribe of Israel are descended, preserved until the last days to gather all the tribes of Israel together; the comfort of sitting in his mother’s lap when she was still alive, him so small and her so large and all-encompassing; a solid hug from his father; the sound of his shoes hitting the pavement as he walks alongside his missionary companion, an indescribable warmth in his heart; pink sunlight bathing the interior walls of temple rooms he’s only imagined but never seen; the squirming solidity of children in his arms, his children, when they come home for the first time; an unfamiliar yet comforting hand holding his, firm and loving, its pads fitting perfectly into the grooves of his own palm; a man’s voice—not his father’s, not the patriarch’s—a voice Kurt can’t place and yet feels like home to him, saying, “God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
