Plant of the Day
Tuesday 12 March 2024
In a sheltered front garden on the south coast of Britain the Salvia rosmarinus (rosemary, rose of the sea, southernwood) is already flowering. This aromatic evergreen will bloom from early spring through summer and into autumn. The plant was even adding foliage and flowers to a shop window display further down the street.

4 Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar
[Originally authored by italia92]
Hair Herbal Rinse
By infusing various herbs into the vinegar rinse, you can enhance different hair colors and condition hair at the same time.
Here are some recommended herbs to use with apple cider vinegar:
For dark hair:……Parsley, Rosemary, Sage For light hair:…..Chamomile, Flannel Mullein, Marigold For red hair:…….Henna For oily hair:……Lavender, Thyme, Witch Hazel, Yarrow For dry hair:…….Marigold For brittle hair:…Horsetail
To make your own herbal hair rinse natural hair care product:
Place 2 tablespoons of the dried herb (or herb mixture) into a muslin bag or tea ball and put in a warmed tea pot.
Pour 1 pint (500 ml) of boiling water over the herbs and infuse for 2 hours.
Allow the liquid to cool then pour it into a quart (1 liter) jar.
Add 1 pint (500 ml) of apple cider vinegar and mix well.
To add extra fragrance to the herbal rinse, try adding a few drops of lavender or lemon or rose essential oils.
No time to make your own natural hair care product?
You can buy online, ready made apple cider vinegar herbal hair rinses.
Essential Oil Vinegar Hair Rinse
If preparing a vinegar/herb infusion is not your cup of tea, then a faster way to enhance the hair conditioning effect of apple cider vinegar is to add a small amount of certain types of essential oils.
To make a batch, just add 5 drops of the essential oil to 1 cup (250 ml) of apple cider vinegar. When you are ready to rinse your hair, take 1 tablespoon of this mixture and add it to 1 cup (250 ml) of warm water.
Types of essential oils that go well in a vinegar hair rinse include:
Lavender, Lemon, Rose, Rosemary, Sage
Dandruff and Itchy Scalp Relief
The acids and enzymes in ACV kill the “bottle bacillus”, a bacteria that is one of the causes for many scalp and hair conditions such as dandruff, itchy scalp, hair loss and often baldness. The bacteria clogs hair follicles allowing dry crusts to form that itch and flake.
For a simple home treatment for dandruff and itchy scalp, apply full strength ACV to the scalp, rub in, and leave on for a half hour to an hour before washing your hair.
For an extra strength natural hair care product, apple cider vinegar can be infused with herbs such as stinging nettle, southernwood, goosegrass, plantain and burdock root all of which help prevent dandruff on their own. Tea tree oil is another excellent natural anti-dandruff ingredient, which can be added.
Natural Hair Loss Treatment
In her book Apple Cider Vinegar- Miracle Health System, Patricia Bragg recommends trying the following natural hair loss treatment: For bald and thinning areas apply to scalp an hour before shampooing- 2 Tbsp ACV mixed with a tiny pinch cayenne powder.
Then before going to bed, mix a royal jelly capsule with one tsp ACV, pat on bald areas and leave overnight.
The following herbs have also been used to prevent hair loss and stimulate hair growth:
Burdock, Catnip, Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary, Saw Palmetto, Thyme, Yucca
Make your own vinegar mixture as per the herbal hair rinse recipe given above and apply it full strength to the scalp. Rub it in and leave it on for a half hour to an hour before washing your hair.

Planet Mercury: Correspondences, Magick & Astrology
Mercury is the planet closest to the sun in our solar system. It is also the smallest planet in the solar system, assuming you accept Pluto’s recent demotion to dwarf planet.
Mercury orbits the sun once every 88 days. It is bright, but difficult to see because of its proximity to the sun. Look for it in the morning and evening twilight.
The earliest known mention of Mercury is in an astrological compendium dating from 14th Cen BCE Assyria known as the MUL.APIN tablets.
The Babylonians called Mercury Nabu, after their messenger God.
The ancient Greeks called Mercury Stilbon, meaning ”the gleaming” and later called it Apollo when it appeared in the morning sky and Hermes when it appeared in the evening sky.
The name Mercury was given to the planet by the Romans who associated their messenger God, Mercury, with the Greek Hermes.
The Planet Mercury in Magic
The planet Mercury rules communication, information and networking, travel, trade, merchants, and commerce. Mercury rules Gemini and Wednesday.

How about moots as flowers?
I spent a summer researching fLowers and their meanings THIS IS MY MOMENT.
@astraystayyh: White Carnations. They symbolise pure, sweet, innocent love and I sometimes truly believe Sahar is love incarnated.
@frenchkisstheabyss - Iris. Irises, for centuries have always said wisdom, love and valor. Is there anything else to describe Ty better?
@jaylaxies - Morning glory. It's not about what it means, but I love the scent of morning glory and even how it looks just screams Aria.
@junnieverse - Myrtle. Myrtles are such cute flowers and also sometimes their essence is used to make whales...do the thing. MARS IM SORRY-
@sjyluv - Snapdragon. If there's anything as graceful and beautiful as Mia, it's the flower that represents grace itself Snapdragon!
@sumaneun-stars - Red tulips. It means "someone who can connect really easily." That's Skye for you.
@yunabi436 - dwarf sunflowers. BECAUSE MY BABY YUNA IS THE MOST ADORABLE LITTLE SHIT EVER
@lovestay-channie - Pink Carnation. It symbolises someone who is unforgettable and Rae has that effect like you can't ever forget her personality.
@chlorinecake - lily-of-the-valley. No cause I love these flowers so much they're the prettiest ever, in scent and in glamour (just like my jagi)
@angel1kisses - Southernwood. Technically it's not a flower, but it symbolises warmth through comedic gestures and that's just saur Vampie.
@candewlsy - Marjoram. It speaks of happiness and joy and welp, if Mizu isn't just the biggest bundle of joy ever idk what she is
@haecien - Honeysuckle. Mainly because I think Harua smells like Honeysuckle IDK WHY IM SORRY
@amazzwon - Winter Savory. does it symbolise spicy shit? Yes it does. Does it remind me of my babygirl? Yes it does.
@jaeyunluvr - Yellow tulip. Maily because her smile is saur pretty and tulips symbolise sunshine in a smile hehe
@minhypen - White rose. It symbolises love in innocence and also softness, and I feel like Selene is the gentlest person I've ever met SHE'S SO CUTE.
@mnwrld - Sweet pea. It means Blissful pleasures and I feel like Kana and her writing are actually such pleasures to read.

I wonder… What are the March sisters' (Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg) favorite flowers?
Well, Little Women has several references to roses throughout, so I'll assume that all four sisters like roses. Each sister also has her own portion of the garden where she plants certain flowers, so those specific flowers must be favorites too.
Meg I imagine likes pale pink or peach roses; "blush roses," which her sisters all wear as her bridesmaids. Old-fashioned and ladylike. She also likes heliotropes, myrtle, and orange blossoms, all of which she grows in the garden. Once she falls in love with John, she comes to love lilies of the valley too, because they're his favorite flower.
Jo doesn't care much for "sentimental" things (except in stories), but I imagine she does like vibrant red roses, as well as bright yellow sunflowers, which she sometimes grows.
Beth I think likes white roses. A white rose is associated with her recovery from her scarlet fever, after all. Meg picks it to place in her hands if she dies, but instead, after her fever breaks, they place it by her bedside to be the first thing she sees when she wakes up. She also loves "old-fashioned fragrant flowers": sweet peas, mignonette, larkspur, carnations, pansies, and southernwood.
Amy is probably disappointed that roses don't come in blue, but I see her liking red or pink roses anyway. She also loves the flowers she grows – lilies, honeysuckle, and morning glories – and she's mentioned to wear azaleas at one point in France, so she must be fond of those too.

snapdragon & southernwood !!
( from @tsunael )
From the Botanical Headcanons word prompts post!
Tumblr media
snapdragon :   is your muse merciful ?why or why not ?
Right now, yes! Oyuun has a rather big heart -- it's part of the reason why her aetherial mimicry tends towards healing arts. It's also the reason that she's traveling along the Warrior of Light's path, despite just wanting to study most of the time -- if her knowledge can help others, and they are asking her for help, how can she refuse?
She fits in with the Scions rather well, now that I think about it.
Tumblr media
southernwood :   how seriously does your muse take themself ?do they prefer a solemn   &   intellectual atmosphere or do they delight in jokes   &   banter ?
Oh my goodness, Oyuun takes herself so seriously. Jokes at her expense, even light ones, tend to chafe her a little (though she's gotten pretty good at brushing them off). She gets embarrassed very easily, especially if someone corrects her about something she felt she should have known.
She loosens up considerably around close friends, though. When she lets herself relax, she feels more comfortable joking around, and often lets herself get a little silly. She'll playfully suggest silly plans for whatever situation the Scions face, or occupy herself when talking to friends by conjuring small displays of lights or sparks.

Much Belated Hagging Out
Wormwood is a powerful vermifuge. At least, that’s what they say. Some say that it is a poison that kills the parasites and others suggest that it’s more about cramping so hard you do the expelling manually.
It ejects, it scours, it cleanses. Not so “scorched and salted earth” as some herbs, but it uproots violently and throws [whatever] out in its face. Green Lady isn’t strictly a “wormwood”, though her Southernwood family is known for keeping out pests through their pungent lemon-camphor scent. Magically, however, she shares in that empire of purgation.
I should have expected that doing this Work would have side-effects.
I did not. Because I’m kinda dumb.
I have told Green Lady’s story before. Over, and over, and over. There’s not much new to say. Our paths are probably too entangled to untangle. When I felt a call to do a specific Work I knew it would be with her. There is no other candidate for this intimate exploration except her. This is like trying a new sex act, or traveling to an unknown country: You do it with someone you trust implicitly, explicitly, and completely.
I’m not going to spell out what The Work is - it’s not quite ready to describe, if it ever is - but it begins with an infusion of plenty of Southernwood into pure grain alcohol.
I trimmed a ton of her bitter, feathery, bits in the appropriate day and hour (she’s damned near doubled in size since then), and I lovingly air-dried them on the top of my altar, turning daily until they were crispy enough to crumble with my fingertips. And infuse I did.
What I expected was a slow batch that took days or weeks to darken. What I got was an instantaneous flush of green so intense that it looked like ink. I didn’t realize it was possible for chlorophyll to just… do that. I’ve paid for watercolor paints less intense.
(She won’t let me take a photo, but I want you to imagine a small sample of Moldavite-green liquid in a large vintage glass canning jar.)
In a previous “infusing” Hagging Out, the one where I re-batched my altar oil, I explained how she holds an untarnished moment for me. She’s got a little piece of the parts of me from Before. She kept it for me, the way I kept a bit of her.
It was then that I started this Work without even realizing it. I hadn’t quite kicked the hornet’s nest yet, but I was certainly lining up the punt. I began to kick up the Weird just to see if-… see what-…
Okay, let’s be brutally honest: To see if I was still me. If the woo was still there. If the connections I’d worked so hard to establish were still alive. I’d been in a fallow period with my practice since my mother died.  I kicked things up to see what was left in the smoking crater. And if the crater was as bad as I thought and, well…
It wasn’t bad at all, really. The crater was me, not around me. The destruction was upstairs, not out there. They had all been patiently waiting for me to perk up.
But then (because I am me) I went “You know what’d be a great idea? If I didn’t ease back into things at all, and instead walked directly up to the most monumental Work possible, and started a hockey brawl with it.” And then I intentionally, willfully, wantonly, attempted to throw hands with the Numinous. Within a day the synchronicities started to happen. The weird ones. The ones where you can’t be shocked or skeptical you just sort of go “Well, that’s… a thing that happened.” And it kept happening. People I hadn’t thought of or spoken to in literally 20+ years started sliding across my Tumblr dashboard or showing up as moderators on facebook groups being suggested to me. But did I stop? God no, why would I do that?
Buy the ticket and take the ride. And the ride has been intense. Better I avoid toeing up to that topic, honestly.
Since this has been two years in a row of revisiting this particular relationship in this particular way, I’ve decided to enshrine it. Whatever moon is full earliest in June is Green Lady’s Moon. The new moon begins the process of reconnection with the plant world, strengthening of ties, etc. The full moon will be for re-establishing connection with myself and my personal ties in Ritual. And the waning moon… Purgation. Heaving whatever isn't working, and is just "taking" out the door, kicking it in the ass for good measure.
This entry is heavily redacted. If the tone seems weird that’s because it’s been edited, edited, and edited again.

Little Women garden moodboards
Tumblr media
Meg's had roses and heliotrope, myrtle, and a little orange tree in it.
Tumblr media
Jo's bed was never alike two seasons, for she was always trying experiments; this year it was to be a plantation of sunflowers, the seeds of which cheerful and aspiring plant were to feed 'Aunt Cockle-top' and her family of chicks.
Tumblr media
Beth had old fashioned, fragrant flowers in her garden – sweet peas and mignonette, larkspur, pinks, pansies, and southernwood, with chickweed for the bird, and catnip for the pussies.
Tumblr media
Amy had a bower in hers – rather small and earwiggy, but very pretty to look at – with honeysuckles and morning-glories hanging their coloured horns and bells in graceful wreaths all over it; tall white lilies, delicate ferns, and as many brilliant, picturesque plants as would consent to blossom there.
