As if I could write something entirely coherent about the absolute chokehold this book had me in.
Look, if you're interested in big plot or action or fast paced things, this isn't the book for you. If you want a book where queerness is normalized, where there's a competent female Sultan and a female Commander who are great characters and do their jobs well, where there's a slowburn romance between a bodyguard and his prince that absolutely talks about the power dynamic and isn't instalove and is such a slow, sweeping thing, this is for you!!!!!
There's only minimal fantasy elements in here which is sad and I'd love to know more. Touch-tasting, people who can find lies through looking at people's eyes, two moons just casually being announced. I would have loved more of it. But this is ultimately a romance story. The plot is there but only in bits and pieces and, it's rather obvious who is involved. But that's a point of interesting conflict because there's already beef between the characters but it doesn't completely go there too much.
What makes this book so good though is the CHARACTERS themselves.
Kadou. God I just want to PROTECT him. He's a good man and he suffers from near debilitating anxiety that he calls the fear-monster because there's really no word for it there. He calls it cowardice but it ISN'T. And while he might be afraid all the time, he isn't a coward in the LEAST. I loved that he was able to hold his own during a alley brawl and had to save his bodyguard. I loved that he's entirely conscious of everyone's worth and power and such. Reading those scenes where he's having a panic attack and no one knows what to DO literally brought me to tears.
Evemer. God I just LOVE him; he's so disciplined and dutiful and he just wants to be useful and serve people who he seems as worthy and such. I love that he had taken what he heard and made his mind up and didn't like Kadou in the beginning. I love that slowly he began to edit his opinion of Kadou and when he's finally called out (not unkindly) for not liking him, he's honest with him. I love that he's not PERFECT at being the bodyguard.
The side characters?! Chef's kiss. Eozena??? Tadek?? I LOVE that there are people who just love Kadou very much because he just simply deserves it. It's not hammered in to be cheesey in your face. It's just like how could they not? They've known him for years. One loves him as almost his aunt. Another loves him as a friend and past-lover. They know he struggles so they put the words into actions too so he can hopefully believe it.
It was just so beautifully written. THIS IS WHAT A SLOWBURN SHOULD BE. There's angst and wanting and hurt/comfort and more.
I absolutely want more but I'm also so happy with what I have gotten.

So I’ve been reading the Archibald Lox series from Darren Shan.
Tumblr media
I’m almost through with the second volume (The Kidnapped Prince) and I’m not sure why these books seem to drag so much in the middle? (Happened also during the Empress of Suanpan arc in the first volume.) Like maybe it’s establishing details that’ll be important later (as has happened many times in Shan’s books) or it’s just more world-building, but particularly in Kidnapped Prince I just could NOT get into the Grop Tourney stuff. I know some people who’ve read the books like Grop so maybe it’s just the fact I dgaf about sports stuff? But idk I feel like a good fourth or so of the book could have been taken out and summed up more succinctly.
That being said, I am enjoying the books. While the series hasn’t really gripped me in the same way The Demonata or Cirque du Freak has (though I don’t think ANYTHING could have as strong a hold on me as the latter) I am still enjoying it. I think that may be because it’s just so different from Shan’s other stuff. It’s much more fantasy-based than horror-based and a lot less death and gore (not that I dislike fantasy but it seems like Shan excels at writing horror more). But I do like the surreal-ness of the Merge and I think there’s a lot of neat world-building.
As far as the story goes, when stuff ramps up, it REALLY ramps up. Like Archie’s kidnapping and interrogation in Kidnapped Prince? Chef’s kiss. The ever-growing mystery of why Archie can do what he can do and characters like Inez and Cal and the SubMerged are also real driving forces in making me continue to read. And I guess if it’s holding my interest, than the story is doing its job! I’m eager to see where it goes.
Also idk if I’ll do fanart for the series or not (if I do I’m into Cal and Adil 😙).

If you haven’t heard Steph read the audio version of ‘Tanqueray,’ you’re missing out. At first the audio department was leaning toward hiring a voice actress. But they invited Steph into the studio for a test read, just in case. Five minutes later everyone in the sound booth was high-fiving each other. How quickly we’d forgotten that our heroine is an elite performer across all mediums. Her voice adds a punch of hilarity to the funny stories, and the ending especially gets quite emotional. Both the book and audiobook have a ‘5-star’ review rating, but many reviewers say the audio version is their favorite. The book reads like an oral history, so it makes sense. One reviewer writes: ‘It’s like having the most interesting person at the party, all to yourself.’ ‘Tanqueray’ is available on Audible, and wherever audiobooks are sold.

I’m mostly going off of fanon when it comes to Constantine, so bear with me, but after all the times Constantine has complained to the JLA for dragging him into whatever problem they’ve managed to bumble into, Batman and Oracle have started looking for alternative occult and supernatural consultants, but it’s not like they can just look someone up in the phone book… right?
Except that’s exactly where Oracle finds Harry Dresden, Professional Wizard.
There aren’t many records Oracle’s able to pull up, and what she does find is a mixed bag.  He’s got a fairly decent record working as a consultant with the Chicago PD, but he’s also worked with known criminal organizations.  There’s a pending lawsuit with TV studio over some wrecked equipment, good reviews from his former landlady, and a mix of dissatisfied and very satisfied customers, but it seems like, for the most part, he gets results.
Plus, his rates are reasonable and he’s willing to travel; might as well bring him in on a trial run.
Nothing big at first.  Break up a new cult, disprove a haunting, all much smaller and easier than what he usually deals with back in Chicago.  He’s even managed to not burn down a building or two while he’s been here.  And while his methods can be… unorthodox, he can hold his own in a fight using both magical and mundane methods.  He’s a good detective and can work a crime scene.  He’s a hell of a lot more personable than Constantine.  Most importantly, he’s willing to teach.  Giant dork that he is, he’s eager to explain the magical theory behind his methods.
After a few months, Batman asks if Dresden is willing to be brought on full time, so to speak, and work his first “big” case.
“Only if you can provide a babysitter.”
…What?
The Carpenter’s are on their family trip, and he doesn’t really have anyone else who can watch his kid.  He can only help if they can get him a babysitter.
Not what any of the Bats were expecting, but Batman can call in a “favor.”
Cue Dresden rolling up to Wayne Manor with little Maggie and her trusty sidekick, Mouse, in tow.
Alfred gets Maggie and Mouse settled in, and once she’s out of the room, Dresden turns to Bruce Wayne and casually asks if he gets to see the Batcave.
Dresden is aware he’s not always the brightest crayon in the toolshed, but he’s still a damn good detective, and he knows people.  It didn’t take him long to puzzle out that Bruce and the kids are vigilantes.  Bruce isn’t happy, but it does make things easier going forward.
Other than Tim, the Birds take to Dresden quickly.  He’s good with kids, never talking down to them, and is full of dorky movie and book references.  He can sling almost as much sass and sarcasm around as Steph.  Maggie is tiny and adorable and looks like a mini-Cass they can all coo over.  And Damian cannot get enough of Mouse who is just so large and fluffy and so much dog!  Tim doesn’t want Dresden to come anywhere near him; he shorts out every tablet and has to stay at least 20ft from the Bat Computer to keep it from shorting out.
So, Dresden finally works with the Justice League on some big, world-ending doomsday case, and yeah, this is unfortunately the speed he’s used to working at.  And, of course, a building burns down, but it was mostly not his fault!  But, everyone comes out more or less in one piece, the day is saved, and a bruised and beaten Dresden drags himself back to Wayne manor to recover before heading back to Chicago.
Just a normal day for Harry Dresden, professional wizard and supernatural consultant for the Justice League of America.
Still a much better deal than he’s used to getting.  The pay is good, and he doesn’t have to constantly watch his back against his own teammates.  Perk of working with superheroes; they’re generally good guys.
But the biggest perks have been the positive effects on his daughter, Maggie.  It’s no Chez Carpenter, but the Manor and all the bat kids have a strong and warm family vibe of their own.  They’re (worryingly) good at helping talk her down from panic attacks and PTSD episodes.  They’ve got a lot of parenting advice to give, too.
And Maggie can finally get the therapy she needs from Black Canary without Dresden worrying about her being thrown into a loony bin for talking about the literal monsters she’ been exposed to.  Harry, too.
This is the best Harry and Maggie have been doing in a long time.
John Constantine, on the other hand, is getting worried.  The JLA have gone a suspiciously long time without getting themselves into trouble, and despite the way he acts, he does care in his own way, so he goes to check on them.  And who does he find they’ve invited into their house?  Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, apprentice of Justin DuMorne, son of Margaret LeFay, fiancé to Lara Raith of the White Court of Vampires, and the right-hand goon of the Dark Faerie Queen herself, Mab.  For Dresden, he can’t believe John Constantine, renegade warlock, necromance and black magic practitioner, just walked in.  He’s been on the Warden’s list for years.
Both parties are trying to make their case about why they shouldn’t be using the other; they’re evil!  But the more Dresden and Constantine yell and argue with each other, the more they realize that they’re both working outside boundaries, but generally in the direction of good.  The two end up in positions that require them to work together, and it goes surprisingly well.  Their knowledge and experiences complement each other’s, and they make a well-oiled, if reluctant, duo.

The Waynes aren’t allowed a public social media platform because of what happened Last Time, but here’s what I think they’d be doing if they were:
Dick: Streams a combination of soft, chill games like Unpacking, and horror games on YouTube. Has full playthroughs of every FNAF game. Owns a thriving Instagram page with millions of followers.
Jason: Streaming Call of Duty on Twitch for hours on end, shitposts on Twitter, gets thirsted over on Tinder.
Tim: Making movie/book/media criticisms and video essays, and pointing out movie inconsistencies CinemaSins style. Has a secret Tumblr blog where he anonymously posts about their vigilante identities.
Damien: Has a YouTube channel about his extensive knife and sword collection, does pocketknife unboxings and reviews every other Friday. Follows the official social media sites of animal rescues and likes and shares all of their posts.
Steph and Cass: Co-own and operate a self-defence YouTube channel for women and girls (anyone really, but that’s their target audience)
Bruce: Has a LinkedIn and an active MySpace page
Alfred: Cooking videos

Doctors, friends, husbands.
My visual mind palace.
I'm new at this so please be patient with me and let me know if I can tag you in the future or not.
Your wish is my command:)
My first book of the Doctor series arrived this week and another one will come by the end of the month.
As a librarian I care a lot for books much more than digital reading and the German company who print PDF's into books is surely happy about their returning costumer:)
Here are the explanation link:
I also love nothing more than inventing a whole world attached to an AU story.
My teachers used to say I had way too much imagination but decades after finishing school it came in handy.
My mind allows me to create a world I enjoy as much as watching the series years ago.
Sometimes even more.
Here is my personal chart for Jill Ballier's and 7PercentSolution series:
" YOU GO TO MY HEAD " PART I
I let the company print my favourite stories from the 22 part series which make each book heavy and around 900 pages.
If you haven't read the series here is the link:
This series means as much to me as the original BBC show because besides it's great and high quality it gave me inspiration to work through my depression this summer and most of all it shows a Sherlock I can relate to.
Sherlock and all his issues and what others ( except) him would call a disability are so well described and shows his strength and weakness in equal measures and his constant fight for himself and John and often we see that Sherlock simply feels too deeply and get easily hurt.
John is equally greatly described!
His patience, loyalty and sometimes temper ( in normal actions and situations) is certainly another highlight.
And makes you love the character even more than before.
But even the characters you can't relate or won't are so extraordinary largely scaled and considered from different psychological angles that you can't stop thinking about.
Not an easy read and some chapters are triggering but important to understand Dr. Holmes and yourself.
You can't explain going through the rain without getting wet:)
Dr. Holmes and Dr.Watson are so real for me as the detective and his blogger.
The character analyses in this stories are exceptional and I go through all kind of emotions every time I'm reading it.
That's why I love to create their own visual world.
More imaginary characters can also be found in Jill's charts.
They are brilliant please don't miss them!
I definitely share her imagination of the parents and Joanna.
Maybe my little overview can support your own sweet mind palace filled with our gorgeous and clever doctors.
Review Part I and II will be uploaded here shortly.
Personal note:
Thank you Jill and 7 percent for your support! It means the world to me.
And thank you Steph and everyone who encouraged me and is patient enough to read my babbling and for every follow and interaction ❤️❤️

Batfic - "Haunted AF"
HAPPY SPOOKYWEEN here's some silly Batkids! (Shoutout to @dangerousdan-dan for motivating me to finish this even though it's very last minute XD)
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Category: Gen Characters/Relationships: Cassandra Cain & Dick Grayson & Duke Thomas & Jason Todd & Stephanie Brown & Tim Drake Additional Tags: Humor, Ghosts, Dick Grayson is a Troll, Jason Todd is a Troll, Batkids Being Batsibs
Summary:
“I mean, would you want to spend Halloween in a haunted fucking house?” Jason asked. He received a collection of blank stares and frowns for a second before anyone realized what he meant. “Jason, the Manor is not haunted,” Tim said with a truly impressive eye roll.
“Has Bruce worked out Halloween patrols yet?” Steph asked as she flopped sideways into an arm chair. “I mean I assume there’s going to be some kind of catastrophe to deal with.”
“Last I heard he was still narrowing down leads. I think I’m supposed to review some data scrapes from Babs later,” Tim said, frowning absently into his mug. Either because he was remembering the work he had to do or because he’d just realized his drink was gone, it wasn’t entirely clear.
“Ooh, fun,” Steph said with a smirk.
“Yeah, well. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail and all that.”
“What, did you swallow a motivational calendar?” Jason asked without looking up from his book.
“Too blessed to be stressed,” Tim intoned flatly.
“Hashtag blessed,” Cass corrected him with a grin. Steph made a choking noise and clapped a hand over her mouth to avoid spraying her drink all over herself while Jason shot both of them a look of outright disgust.
“Does the Manor get, like, trick or treaters and stuff?” Duke asked thoughtfully. “I mean it’s way out in the middle of nowhere.”
“I dunno, actually,” Tim said with a frown. “Nobody’s usually home on Halloween anyway, considering…” He gestured vaguely at all of them in a way that was apparently meant to indicate “being a vigilante in Gotham on Halloween”.
“I mean, would you want to spend Halloween in a haunted fucking house?” Jason asked. He received a collection of blank stares and frowns for a second before anyone realized what he meant.
“Jason, the Manor is not haunted,” Tim said with a truly impressive eye roll.
“What, are you kidding me? It’s Gotham. Gotham is hella haunted-”
“Don’t say hella.”
“-just in general and the Manor is definitely included in that. You know how old that place is? How many people used to live there before Bruce turned into the Bat Hermit? How much tragedy those walls have borne witness to?”
“‘Borne witness’?” Cass repeated softly to herself.
“There are no ghosts in Wayne Manor,” Tim said firmly. “I’ve never noticed anything strange. Or, you know, strange compared to our normal level of weird.”
“You barely lived there. I saw all sorts of weird shit when I was a kid. Stuff getting moved around even though no one was home, doors opening and closing on their own, weird shadows that shouldn’t be there moving around. That was the worst. Headed up the stairs in the dark, seeing someone lurking up ahead, assuming it’s Bruce, and then nope, he’s behind you and nobody’s there. Scared the shit out of me when I was little.”
“So a bunch of stuff that’s easily explained as a child’s imagination?” Tim asked, unimpressed.
“There’s also the mirror.”
“The mirror?” Steph repeated in a mockingly serious voice.
“One of the bathroom mirrors back in the back hall would always have handprints up in the top corner no matter how many times we cleaned it. Alfred just thought it was me and Dick messing with him. Eventually he decided it must’ve been stained somehow and just replaced the mirror, but the handprints came back pretty much immediately.”
“You are so full of shit!” Steph laughed loudly. Tim was silent but the hard stare he was directing at Jason was more than eloquent.
“I heard yelling, what’s going on?” Dick said from the hall, poking his head around the doorway.
“Just telling them about the ghosts,” Jason said evenly. Whatever reaction the others expected of Dick (probably either rolling his eyes or sternly telling Jason to knock it off), they didn’t get it. Dick just nodded, entirely unsurprised, as if that was a perfectly reasonable answer, eliciting another round of Looks between the kids as he wandered over to stand by Jason’s chair.
“Oh, yeah,” Dick said matter-of-factly. “The attic one who breaks glass at stupid o’clock in the morning or the one who leaves creepy handprints in the downstairs bathroom mirror?”
“Wait, that’s real?” Tim demanded incredulously.
“Yeah, and that thing in the tiny guest room that blows on your neck if you stay there too long.”
“Ugh, I hate that one,” Dick agreed with a shudder. “So creepy.”
The other four exchanged a complicated series of looks.
“Okay, so you’re both full of shit,” Steph said with less conviction than before.
“Believe what you want,” Jason said levelly. Dick just looked slightly confused at their skepticism.
“I...need to check something,” Tim said as he hurriedly packed up his laptop and phone.
“Oh, yeah, you want some help?” Steph offered.
“Uh, sure, I’m just gonna…” Tim did not actually finish explaining what he was going to do as he left, Steph and Cass trailing along behind him. Duke watched them go, glanced at Dick and Jason, then shrugged and went to follow.
“They’re totally going to spend all night ghost hunting,” Jason said once they were gone.
“Yup,” Dick grinned, holding out a hand in Jason’s direction. Jason rolled his eyes, but fist bumped him anyway.
“Should we make sure they find something?” he suggested with a smirk. Dick blinked at him, looking slightly confused again.
“You don’t think they will?” he asked innocently. Jason narrowed his eyes suspiciously. That was absolutely one of Dick’s “I’m full of shit” voices.
“Of course they won’t, because the Manor’s not haunted,” Jason said slowly. “That was all bullshit.”
“Oh, right! Of course,” Dick agreed with a (fake as hell) easy smile.
“Dick.”
“Do you think Bruce has finished his patrol schedules yet?” Dick asked as he headed out of the room.
“Dick! You said you made it up! Dick!”

short book review, The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix
I liked most of this a lot. The protagonist is a bunch of fun to follow around, there were some genuinely creepy bits and a couple of twists that caught me out. Unfortunately the story is let down by the very ending - the last three chapters felt half-baked.
Major spoilers after the break:
The triple twist about the killers got me. I thought I was smart for guessing it was Skye early on, but then I didn't bother thinking beyond that conclusion and was effectively sideswiped by Steph being in on it as well.
The whole finale though - from Steph driving away from a dying Lynnette, up through the arrival at Red Lake, to confronting the killers, and the final chapter - was so disappointing.
I loved that I kept finding out about the narrator's dirty secrets as the story unfolded. There was a point where I wondered if she'd been behind it.
The fakeout of Lynnette abandoning Steph at Chrissy's place fully got me and part of me wishes Hendrix had pulled the trigger on it, but it was fine that he didn't. After 3/4s of a novel spent finding out that the main character is kinda shit and useless, that would have been a fully earned twist.
The killers-using-guns subversion was deeply uninteresting - I get what Hendrix was trying to do I think, but guns don't belong in that world. They undo all the tension. I know Hendrix understands this because he explains it earlier in the story, so having the final confrontation be Lynnette running away from a dude with a machine gun felt totally out of touch. The observation the story implies is
"well why did you want a sequence full of brutal slayings, hmmm? what does that say about you? aren't you part of the problem?"
and like fuck off you know? I have a strong dislike for that kind of meta buck-passing. I'm reading the book because I enjoy spooks and grissliness, don't try and high road me about that right at the end.
Red Lake didn't feel like it made any sense as a setting for the finale either. It had little to no resonation with or meaning to the main character.
Given that Chrissy was the mirror image of Lynnette, Chrissy's murder museum would have been a better setting for a finale wouldn't it? Scream 6 ended up doing something like that two years after this book was published.
Heather was an interesting but underexplored character, and her reveal that there was probably something supernatural going on with her story was fun. Although I felt a little too spin-off baited by the last mention of her.
I'm not as down on as it as I sound. I enjoyed the book, I'm just sad that the ending was almost entirely botched because if the landing had been stuck it would have been a great story.

I super enjoyed this! I am a simple woman. Give me regency woman trying to find a fortune/husband and I will usually love it.
This did everything it was supposed to. It made me grin, laugh, and feel. The part where they drop EVERYTHING and help each other's siblings without another THOUGHT because they couldn't bear it for the other. I LOVED.
The banter was good. I loved Kitty and her devotion to her family and her single minded determination to get what she wants and succeed was so refreshing. James constantly underestimating her and trying to both botch and help her succeed was great too.
Super excited about the second book!

I'd love to hear more Bat social media thoughts if you have any
Oh I absolutely do
Civilian
Twitter:
Bruce, Dick, Cass, Tim, Steph, and Jason all have twitter. The first four have verified accounts (like proper verified, not the shit Musky introduced). Jason's twitter is just something like litlover666
Tim has an extra anonymous account to post absolute shit in and pick fights with. Steph picks fights on main and makes fun of Bruce constantly. Jason posts mostly book reviews with the occasional photo of whatever he's eating right now and recommendation for some mom and pop restaurant in the worst parts of Gotham. He has a cult following
Bruce's account is entirely PR. He doesn't even have the password. Not because he can't be trusted with it but because he doesn't give a fuck. Every once in a while his social media intern asks him for some photo or he texts them about a charity he wants to promote and that's the extent of his involvement
Dick is sporadic with his use. He tweets happy birthdays to everyone including members of the batfam who aren't on Twitter (see Damian) and responds to random @ s a lot
Cass mostly uses it to crosspost videos of herself dancing from Instagram and retweets Steph's shitposting
Instagram:
Duke, Cass, and Steph all have Instagram. Only Cass is verified, because Duke is too new to the batfam. It irritates him more than he'll admit
Again, Cass's insta is mainly photos and videos of her dancing. She also posts a lot of photos with her family tho, especially in embarrassing situations nobody knew she'd managed to capture on camera
Steph uses it mainly to lurk but her friends only stories are a LOT of fun
Duke posts his poetry on there sometimes, but mostly it's a casual Instagram with pictures of friends and family and selfies. He also posts pictures of Damian's pets every once in a while cause he thinks it's a shame Damian is too young to join the platform and post them himself (Damian is like 11 or 12 at most in my mind and Alfred actually enforces the no social media before you're 13 rule)
Tim deleted his finsta when he became Robin cause it was dedicated to Bat content and that was Embarrassing
Tumblr:
Only Steph and Tim have tumblrs. Jason would thrive on here, but he doesn't have time to figure out any other platform beside the one he's on. Neither Steph nor Tim told each other outright they have tumblrs, but they found each other and became mutuals anyway. Tim doesn't use the platform so much anymore, he was way more into it when he was like 13 or 14, but Steph keeps up with ALL the memes. Both accounts are anonymous but Tim has a HUGE following for telling random stories about his life that sound entirely made up except he always provides photographic evidence or some other kind of proof
Tiktok
WE PR made Bruce start a TikTok and he insisted it be a Wayne family TikTok because, again, he Did Not Want To Deal With It. Tim's supposed to be in charge of it but Dick is addicted. He has his own account too but he only ever posts on the Wayne family TikTok account, mostly to brag about his siblings' accomplishments
Cass, again, has a dance-focused account. She once posted herself dancing with Jason and everyone freaked out over who this giant dude is until he was legally brought back to life. Nobody in the batfam knows how she managed to get him to agree to participate but he was actually really good
Dick's personal account is not as active as the Wayne family account but he posts gymnastics there sometimes
Neither Alfred nor Kate are on social media for very different reasons. Babs is on every platform as a lurker, but on Twitter she interacts with Dick and Cass sometimes. Damian isn't allowed yet but once he turns 13 he becomes an absolute TERROR on twitter
Vigilante
Twitter:
The JLA, Titans, and Young Justice teams all have team accounts of various diplomatic quality. Diana runs the first for the most part, basically every member of the Titans team gets their chances with it at some point for theirs, and Cassie and Tim have learned their lesson about letting anybody except the two of them tweet from the YJ account
Nightwing's account is excessively popular. A lot of people thirst follow him but also sometimes he eviscerates someone horrible and it's extremely funny
Spoiler's account is also popular for being just as feral as her civilian main
It's a recurring joke among the superhero community that everyone is very lucky that Robin doesn't have an account
Signal's account is low-key
Oracle's account is vital, she provides a lot of early warnings for civilians when there are Arkham breakouts and the like. A lot of people have notifications turned on for her account
TikTok:
Just like the Wayne's account, the batfam has an account. It's mostly funny bits from cowl cam but Red Robin has posted a series of videos triggering Red Hood into talking about his various interests (literature, proper gun maintenance, the actual programs that would benefit crime alley) all of which go extremely viral
And that's everything I have right now!! If anybody wants fic recs for social media aus or wants to know my hcs for other heroes' social media just shoot me an ask 🥰

Could you refresh my memory of where Jacks threatened to cut off Kristoffs fingers? I sort of have a vague recollection but I also think I missed it?
Also, what do you think of Lala? Do you think we could get a book about her and Castor? I think she gets too much hate because I think every single character in the series makes bad decisions for love, which I think was Steph’s point. So I don’t hold what she did too much against her even though it was bad.
I’m so sad people didn’t like ACFTL :,( I’m so in love with it and thought it was true to how Stephanie writes. I feel bad for her and I hope once more people finish the book, it will get more positive reviews :/
stephanie sent some posters in the mail and one of them says jacks did it!

honestly, i was mad at lala. i didn't like what she did to eva, and it became even more obsolete after we found out that she doesn't even want dane anymore. however, i came to terms with the idea that she is also a fate, and she is evangeline's friend in a strange way. i love how she called aurora several names and defended evangeline ❤️ aaand i would love to read a book about her and chaos, especially because of her. her personality seems very interesting to me. i believe that stephanie left a hook for a book of theirs in case she wants to revisit this universe in the future, so it's totally possible. when would be the real question 😅 i hope the hate she's receiving now doesn't discourage her
and i'm also very sad :( i think readers got a lot lost in fans theories and details that stephanie never highlighted. i hope that when the hype passes, people can go back and read it again and see that it's actually an amazing book. besides, stephanie doesn't deserve the hate and disrespect she's getting.

The first time Tony canceled on Justin Hammer, it was a shock.
Which it really shouldn’t have, because Justin had been the one to encourage him to give the Avengers a chance, so they should have expected—
Really, it was a silly little thing, meeting up for drinks and a meal just to show off. Besides, it’s not like Tony even intended to cancel, even, but. Well, Tony probably forgot he was talking to Justin, who was a regular CEO and was most definitely not a genius or a superhero for whom the world would bend over backwards to make things work. Justin, who had a flight to Dubai in 14 hours so this was the only time they would’ve been able to make it.
Which meant they had to cancel. Which was fine, it wasn’t anything important. Really.
It’s just...they’d been doing it for decades now, ever since Tony had preened at a gala and talked about building a dummy at MIT and Justin had raised an eyebrow and mentioned being part of student council. Hope had rolled her eyes but smirked into her not-champagne flute, and that...
It wasn’t much, Justin knew. But that exchange had been the highlight of Justin’s winter break, because the Hammers got along like oil and water the few times they were all together, and everyone always, always turned to Justin to fix it.
And then Tony’s parents died, and he’d needed someone and it’s only now that Justin realized just how much of their life had been built around their rivalry. Around one of the few people Justin could trust, who was on even terms with them, the closest thing they had to a friend when the rest of the world demanded so, so much—
Just like Steph.
Neither of them needed Justin anymore, not really; not when Tony’s new friends were good people with no blood on their hands, not when Steph had long since outgrown her need for a guardian.
The realization was nothing less than a gut punch.
Justin quietly called to cancel their reservation, and stayed home.
Alone. Like always, these days.
.
The second time Tony canceled on Justin, it was. Not great.
More of a disappointment than anything else, but to be expected, considering the mess the Avengers were dealing with. So it wasn’t really a surprise when Tony called to say he wouldn’t be able to make it, and that better luck next time, and Justin smiled and said all the usual pleasantries before the call ended and they were left with a too-silent apartment and no one to care about their latest jump in the stock market.
.
The third time Tony canceled on them, Justin wasn’t even surprised anymore.
.
The time after that, however, came with a fortunate change of pace: as Justin moved to put away their phone, they paused, and turned their head with a wry smile.
Loki was still new to this ‘not-PA’ business, and Ivan had been spending a bit too much time in his workshop than was healthy...
“Well, that happened— would either of you be interested in coming with me to that new place downtown?”
Ivan frowned thoughtfully for a second, before shrugging. “Sure, why not.”
Loki’s eyes were sharp as he glanced at them. “You’re upset.”
This time, it was Justin’s turn to shrug. “Plans fell through. For what it’s worth, it’s supposed to have pretty good food and the reservation’s for a private room.”
“Who?” Loki demanded, leaning in ever so slightly, and boy if that wasn’t Justin’s cue to take a few emotional steps back.
“Nothing major, life happens. Do you want to come with, or not?”
“Yes.” Loki said after a moment, with a decisive nod. “I would love to.”
It wasn’t what Justin had originally planned, but they had a great evening nevertheless.
.
The phone Justin constantly kept at his side quietly buzzed for the first time in months.
‘I am coming. When can we meet?’ Read the text, and Justin’s breath caught for a moment.
Victor’s message could only be about the upcoming summit, and that— oh dear. Justin was going to be busy with shareholders most of the week of, and before that was contract reviews, and other than the gala they were booked solid before the summit and Victor would be in pretty much the same state when it started...
Wait, no: there was one evening that could work.
Except it was technically already booked, but Tony wouldn’t mind if they canceled just this once, right?

July and August Reads
Every time I write these, I am in awe at how fast the months go by. I won't bore you all with the same conversation about wishing to have read more because it seems like the pace I have been reading is about as average of a pace I can do. Which is ok! I read a lot of books but I struggle to read on my phone anymore and I think that has been one of my biggest barriers lately. I have another tangent about a big barrier for me atm but I want to reserve that for a reblog and not clog the original post from the amazing fics that I did read these two months.
Note: While I do not have a minors DNI mention on my blog, please remember to check the authors about me and/or headers and respect the boundaries they set about who they want reading their blogs~

Drunken Confessions (Seokjin x Reader) ( @hoseokhasmyheartxx)
When you go to pick your best friend up from the bar, the last thing you're expecting is a drunken confession.
Warnings: alcohol consumption
SFW

Fluff, Non-Idol AU, Friends to Something
Ahhhh! This is such an adorable fic! I love how Steph took the idea of drunk words being sober truths and ran with it with this confession scene! It's such a great play on it! Anyone who loves fluffy confessions and (rightfully) hesitant main characters will LOVE this cute little fic! Truly it left my heart fuzzy and happy!
Period Pooh (Jungkook x Reader) ( @vvh0adie )
After a long week of work, your week can only get better with a pregnancy scare. You really don’t need this especially when you already take care of your biggest baby, Jungkook. And he seems to be taking this the hardest. Either way you two will get through this together.
Warnings: mature language, anxiety, sexual language, feelings of emotional neglect, allusions to abortion, allusions to sex, allusions to assisted masturbation, pregnancy scare, excessive eating, parenthood talk
5.6k
Angst, Fluff, Established Relationship
Note: this fic is in a series but it can be read alone.
If you enjoy raunchy humor and a vast display of love languages, this is the fic for you! I loved the ways in which Plym showed the MC and Jungkook expressing their love for each other through the various love languages! Acts of service, words, gifts, time together. Even with their suggestive humor, they’re big softies for each other and it really shines through! Although this fic deals with some heavy topics, Plym keeps the story light as the MC and Jungkook try to comfort each other. It was such a great read!

Better Left Untouched (Namkook) (AO3)
With a simple touch, Namjoon can hear thoughts. Jeongguk has a very good reason to never let him touch.
Warnings: No archive warnings apply
6.8k
Idol AU, Fluff, Supernatural
OMG OMG OMG I'm going to preface this review with saying that after I read this fic I binged a bunch of other stuff in this author's masterlist. I'm obsessed with their writing! Especially in this piece, I found myself getting sucked in to the softness and the poetic waxing of everything that was happening. They balance tension and fluff so well and I absolutely loved the amount of non-sexual intimacy that was present in this fic. So often I feel like intimacy is very focused on sexual aspects, and as an ace person that doesn't really immerse me in a story as much as those non-sexual moments of intimacy that's just full of fluff. And this fic is just absolutely talked full of that and I loved it!
Heard them Talk (Namkook) (AO3)
The guy reaches for Namjoon’s tail again and Jeongguk can’t take minding his own business anymore. Gym bag thrown to the ground, his feet carry him forward in a thoughtless fury. “Don’t fucking touch my boyfriend!” he hollers and shoves the guy’s hand away.
Warnings: No archive warnings apply, multiple sex scenes, bullying
NSFW
24.7k
Fluff, Light Angst, Smut Hybrid AU, Supernatural AU, Fake Dating
Okay! Another fic by this amazing author and I absolutely love the ways in which both Namjoon and Jungkook have parallel struggles that they're going through. As a hybrid and a mostly non-hybrid area and a person with a bunny daemon, they both face a lot of scrutiny from the town that they're in. And they're insecurities because of this really parallel each other in a way that both keeps tension going, allows them to understand each other, and really just leads to such a beautiful connection between them. It also has some really fun scenes of them learning about each other and their experiences and way of life. It was just so enjoyable.
Pufferfish (Namgi) (AO3)
Namjoon finds a battered, unconscious mermaid on the beach one morning and takes him home.
Warnings: No archive warnings apply, sex scenes, allusions to violence
NSFW
10.6k
Fluff, Smut, Mermaid AU,
I absolutely love mermaid centered stories! And this one had such an interesting opening plot, with Namjoon just wanting to help Yoongi and inadvertently hurting him… but Yoongi just such a flexible person and he quickly adjusts to the world of humans. Through the story we really see friendships and romance bloom and an interesting conversation about the stereotypical path of a romantic relationship and the conflict that might come into play if you don't follow that traditional path.
Unfamiliars (Sope) (AO3)
Hoseok rescues a kitty in a summer storm. Thanks to some weird magic, Yoongi is that kitty. In a tiny apartment full of plants and moonlight, a simple, aching happiness blooms. But with what Jungkook knows, how long can the happiness last?
Warnings: No archive warnings apply, loneliness, unhoused moments, depression, multiple sex scenes
NSFW
Fluff, Angst, Shifter AU, Witch AU
NVOVNEVONEOCNWOGNEOCNEOFNEOFNDODNCODNDKCK WHEN I SAY I INHALED THIS! I'm a sucker for hybrid/shifter aus. If you looked at my older stuff and looked at some of the works that I beta, I really started exploring supernatural stories through hybrid aus. I find them so fun and there's really so much you can do with them and this story is such a great example of the many things you can do with them and the many paths you can take. It was such a bingeable and excitable read and each chapter I was left hanging on the edge of my seat and needing to know more!

Rare and special moments to cherish forever.
More batfam stuff, yuuuuh. BUT! This time, the reader is new to the batfamily! - Dick personally offering you a chance to dance or learn how to be acrobatic. This is how he talks sometimes because I like to personally believe he's a dork, and body language is how he rolls 9 times out of 10. If this is offered to you, take it. He's a great dancer, and now sees you as family than just a friend. - If Jason actually takes your advice on fixing a vehicle, cooking a dish or getting a book to read, it means your personal opinion is valuable to him. Sure, he'll treat you more like family but still would ask you for your thoughts on something. - Tim offering you a spot to sit next to him while reading. It's small, but it's nice. When it comes to detective work, you'll also be able to join him and work things out together. - Oddly enough, if Damian finds you in the music room, playing an instrument then he'll quietly join you with his violin. Any form of beautiful music is his way of speaking without words. - I like to think Cass would be more chill with you and just sit with you if you're doing anything or just watching the clouds. Sometimes she'll invite you for tea and books in the garden. - Steph and you would vibe a lot more than expected, with music or just hanging out more. - Personally, I see Duke being a bit intimidated by you but he'll warm up eventually and have a lot more to talk about with you. - Bruce would seem distant at first but he did that with every new kid he adopted intentionally or unintentionally, as a sort of review period, but you know you're accepted when he ruffles your hair, does a bunch of corny dad jokes, and offers you a cookie on patrol (yes that's a reference to batman giving his murder children cookies to not murder criminals.) - Out of everyone in the family, Alfred would be the most accepting of you at the very first moment he meets you. Just enjoying some quiet time with him in the kitchen or cleaning the manor with him is enough for him.
