This particular commission was from my good friend Joey, author of the fic "The Bureau: Summer Declassified" based on XCOM The Bureau where Remnant's favourite dead Mom gets sent to our little piece of dirt. In the middle of an alien invasion, wouldn't be exciting otherwise.
Give it a read if you fancy, it's pretty worth it.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 [𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮] [𝒔𝒏𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌]
summary: the colors of life change with time, but the music that narrates it lives on forever in one, standstill moment of the 1990s where success and passion came tumbling down. Years later, the story is declassified.
pairing: eddie munson x fem!reader
warnings: minors dni (18+), this is based off of fleetwood mac/daisy jones and the six so imagine mid-80s and 90s rock scene, language, lil bit a spice, a whole lotta angst, enemies to lovers to enemies to…
Tumblr media
In a world where words meant so much, it was difficult to find them at a time where they were needed.
The cool wire weaved against your skin. Its path crawling like a snake of retrospection from the bottom of your chair to your chest. There was a pebble of sweat threatening to spill from the top of your hairline in the hot California sun which made you think:
"Why the fuck did I ever move out of Indiana?"
But if you closed your eyes, you could recall why. A sickening, thunderous roar of the crowd–you could still hear it now. Somewhere, thumping in the back of your mind as their chants filled a space that breathed a new life within you as the another was dying.
An echo chamber of the taste of metal against lips; the white knuckle grip that still threatened to slip from your grasp.
The woman who sat across from you had a plastic smile on her lips. For her, it was nothing more than a job. An exploitive adventure where you'd be sticking headlines and messages across platforms for weeks to come because of this tell-all documentary.
"When did you know?"
Against cynicism the inevitable hardness of the culture you had immersed yourself in at one time had risen again and the attitude that rose promised a truthful reflection of your experience.
On the floor beside the mics battery pack, a half smoked carton of cigarettes met a glazed palm and the woman watched as a perfectly rolled stick land between two mauve lips. As the flame sparked, your eyes darted to hers.
"Know what?" you muttered between the smoke.
“When it was finally over?”
You could feel the breath being sucked out of your soul. The shudder radiating like a shutter letting rain inside of the home in the canyon; kissing the very center of a heartbeat that stopped at the sight of a pair of eyes, shoes peaking through a doorway.
The cigarette burned between your fingers. Ticking away like a bomb with scorching red embers fighting its casing.
“The Album was the best and worst thing to ever happen to any of us… that sounds ridiculous,” you scoffed, shaking your head and the woman quirked her head.
“It sounds ridiculous that something so magical, something so brilliant, can make those who built it feel small. It put us in a fishbowl and it took every last drop from our cup before it dried up and cracked under the heat… that's when I knew it was over."
She shifted in her seat, readjusting the papers to organize her thoughts. You imagined there was no sounder way of stating it. It was the truth, frank, and to the point but something the rest of them negated to realize or speak into words.
But she shook her head. “Yes, the band… but what of the relationships?”
“None of us had known about Steve and Nancy, Robin and Vickie had barely interacted until their writing began and by the end… well you can read plenty of articles about the end of it all.”
You drew from the cigarette again. Smoke filling the air around you like a mist; the woman kept digging.
“And Eddie and yourself?”
“Well…”
That heart-skipping beat never left. Laurel Canyon was so far away, the studio was a memory, and the stage was a phantom piece of your imagination yet the simple mention of a name so far removed was enough to make time stand still.
Somewhere, a young woman frozen and left wondering the "what if" of a life not shrouded by fanatics and the thrumming of a guitar. Somewhere, lost in the violence of a summer and the shattered glass of a heart left on a stoop, that girl remained inside.
“It was always complicated.”
“So,” she shrugged at you as if the conversation was nothing more than such. It wasn’t as though she was here to get all the details of every part of a life that had already played out in public if people had only been paying attention.
It wasn’t as though she was cracking open a mountain full of jeweled memories that had crystalized themselves in the past.
“When did it all go wrong?”
Feeling the sting of the camera focus on your face, there were two responses to this question that many had already answered before you:
"When did it all go wrong?" You lamented to yourself.
When did you know it was over? When did it all go wrong?
The woman's eyes glistened in excitement. Her story was unraveling before her. You took a drag again.
Fuck. You thought to yourself.
And the film began to play.
Tumblr media
A/n: I'm excited to get back in the writing game - especially with Eddie. Let me know your early thoughts! Yay, nay, slay?

Atlantic Theater Map Declassified
On behalf of our crew, our colleagues at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's (TPWD) Cultural Resources branch, and OnAim Conservation, I am pleased to announce that the stabilization, conservation, and partial restoration of the Atlantic Theater Map in the Captain's Cabin is complete!
This map of the WWII Atlantic Theater was painted on a bulkhead in the Captain's Cabin after September 1944 (based on references in the map). It shows the ports of call Texas made during WWII (white dots with anchors in them), where she performed shore bombardment (noted by little explosions), national capitals (yellow triangles), and a few surprise discoveries as the map was conserved.
Tumblr media
The 1966 newspaper photo of Chief McKeown, with the map in the background. This is the only known photograph of the map prior to it being painted over.
Sometime after 1966 (which is when the only known historic photo of the map was taken), the map along with the rest of the Captain's Cabin was painted white. That act was not great, but not terrible either. What was truly terrible is a window was cut into the bulkhead right in the middle of the map sometime in the late 1970s, after the map and compartment were painted white. We believe that because the map had been painted over and the loss of institutional knowledge of the map, those who made that decision did not know it was there.
Fast forward to around 2000 when the map beings to reveal itself as the white paint begins to flake off and the map is rediscovered during the planning for the Captain's Cabin restoration. When the Captain's Cabin was restored, the window was welded up and the map was partially uncovered exposing the Mediterranean and most of Europe. In 2009, I discovered the 1966 picture of Chief McKeown with the map in the background, which spurred a lot of excitement about what possibly survived. However, due to budgetary constraints we were not able to perform any real conservation treatments to the map.
Tumblr media
This is the map in 2002. You can see Italy, Southern France, and the Mediterranean emerging. At left you can see the frame of the infamous window.
The map sat partially uncovered and untouched until last summer. In partnership with TPWD Cultural Resources we hired OnAim Conservation to stabilize the remaining paint on the bulkhead, just prior to the tow to Galveston. This initial step preserved what remained and protected it from any vibrations from the tow and/or shipyard work. It also set the stage for uncovering the rest of the map and recreating the missing sections.
Tumblr media
This is the map in 2011. During the 2002-2003 Captain's Cabin restoration, it was partially uncovered. But work stopped out of fear of damaging the map further.
All through July 2023, the incredibly talented husband and wife team of Zak Miano and Ariane Roesch (who own OnAim Conservation), with the expertise and hard work of artist and conservator Bob Pringle, performed the tedious work of uncovering the map by removing the remaining white paint, revealing that much more of the map survived than anyone thought. They also discovered that whoever painted the map, had painted the State of Texas in Africa in burnt orange!
Tumblr media
This is the map as it appears today. The gloss is from Damar varnish that was used by OnAim to protect the paint and bad lighting.
Tumblr media
Europe afte the remaining remnants of white overpaint was removed and the the destroyed sections of Spain and North Africa were recreated. You can see the explosions where the ship did shore bombardment at N. Africa, Normandy, and Southern France.
Tumblr media
We made the decision to use French Morocco as Morocco was a 'protectorate' of France and French Morroco showed on a lot of 1940s maps.
Once the map was uncovered, OnAim added Kati Ozanic-Lemberger to the team to recreate the destroyed section and features of the map. In consultation with TPWD Cultural Resources, it was a unanimous decision to touch up the paint of the surviving sections of the map, fill in and blend in missing areas within surviving sections, and recreate the large missing sections. We made this decision for two main reasons, 1) it would preserve the existing map longer 2) it would allow us to tell the story of what happened to this map. The artistry of OnAim is phenomenal in how they blended the recreated areas of the map with the original, infilled and blended missing patches, and emphasized the surviving features that were being last. The map blew me away, but the skill of these folks was just as impressive.
Tumblr media
The big surprise: TEXAS!
Tumblr media
The Eastern seaboard of N. America, with all of Texas's Dec 7, 1941 to September 1944 ports of call. Another discovery OnAim made was the remnants of 'North'. THis do not show in the 1966 photo, Referencing period maps, we opted to infill the missing sections of 'North' and create 'North Atlantic Ocean'. As that seemed the most logical as to what was there -there was no 'South'. Because this was largely on the destroyed section we would not be harming the original map.
Tumblr media
The faded areas are what survived of 'North'. The more solid and brighter blue is what was infilled. Same with the gray for the oceans.
I also want to add that Ariane, Kati, Bob, and Zach were working directly under the work going on the Signal Bridge. They performed their magic while having to deal with the sounds of needle guns, grinders, hammers, et al, right above their heads and occasionally getting smoked out from welding and cutting smoke that would get sucked into Captain's Cabin. How they kept steady hands and focus amid the normal cacophony of a shipyard environment is astounding.
Tumblr media
Custom matching and blending colors
Tumblr media
The detail work....
Tumblr media
Bob and Katie recreating the destroyed section of the map.
Tumblr media
The on OnAm team: Kati, Ariane, Zak, and Bob
As to the future of the map, we plan to have it on exhibit in the Captain's Cabin shortly after we reopen and are planning to incorporate it into an AR experience."

SCP-6013: The Leviathan of the Aegean
Tumblr media
Art by Valdevia
We are alone in the empty. Stars stare down, past the air, past the water, into me, my eyes, my skin. We know our place. It is here, always was. One of six who drink from bleeding fire, tumors in meat like a string of oily pearls. But there is only one. One to gestate us. This world is our Adytum. I will not let them kill it again.
Genre: Body horror, sci-fi, interactive fiction, xenofiction, wet, underwater yearning
Length: Approx. 17,000 words
Time to Read: An afternoon, probably
One-Sentence Summary: When the Foundation's contempt and biomantic rituals collide, a transgender linguist has to make a choice: do her duty to the world, or embrace the new, greater self that only a Sarkic superweapon can create.
SCP-6013 was my entry into the SCP-6000 contest way back in the summer of 2021. I'd been debating whether to write something for the site for quite awhile before that point. When I finally decided to give it a try, all of the advice I got said that it was best to start simple. So, naturally, I ignored it completely and wrote a conlang video game over the course of about three months. I had no experience on the site, no experience with CSS or Wikidot and no one brave enough to stop me. Now the SCP Foundation is stuck with me forever.
I wouldn't have been able to make anything that I've done for the SCP Foundation without the talent of fellow author and goop enthusiast @the-metaphysician. All of his work is scored with this meditative and dark undercurrent that I aspire to replicate with every word. Sarkicism has always been my favorite part of SCP's massive universe, and he's almost singularly responsible for its most iconic articles. Being able to add to Metaphysician's repertoire with SCP-6013 brought me so much happiness in an otherwise dreary time of my life. I look forward to making his creation even more wretched and captivating in the future.
The beautiful artwork at the top of this post, which depicts SCP-6013 in all her vast, undulating glory, is a commission from @valdevia. He's an incredibly talented artist and a super chill guy, and I have several more articles in production that make use of his work. SCP-6013 also contains a gorgeous sketch piece from the artist @demo0on on Twitter (that one's a spoiler unfortunately).
SCP-6013 is part sci-fi horror, part gay awakening, part puzzle game, all disgusting. It is a demanding undertaking, a pit of viscera explored in exhaustive detail and hideous depth. If you need something big to sink your teeth into, I'd love to hear what you think of it.
I hope that it changes you.

Never forget.
Some fun facts about how attentive George W. Bush was from his inauguration up to 9/11. From Fred Kaplan at Slate.
A USA Today story, written right before Bush took off, reported that the vacation—scheduled to last from Aug. 3 to Sept. 3—would tie one of Richard Nixon’s as the longest that any president had ever taken. A week before he left, Bush made a videotaped message for the Boy Scouts of America. On the tape, he said, “I’ll be going to my ranch in Crawford, where I’ll work and take a little time off. I think it is so important for the president to spend some time away from Washington, in the heartland of America.” [ ... ] In his CIA days, (former CIA officer Larry) Johnson wrote “about 40” PDBs. They’re usually dispassionate in tone, a mere paragraph or two. The PDB of Aug. 6 was a page and a half. “That’s the intelligence-community equivalent of writing War and Peace,” Johnson said. And the title—”Bin Laden Determined To Strike in US”—was clearly designed to set off alarm bells. Johnson told his interviewer that when he read the declassified document, “I said ‘Holy smoke!’ This is such a dead-on ‘Mr. President, you’ve got to do something!’ ” [ ... ] Then again, it’s easy to forget that before the terrorists struck, Bush was widely regarded as an unusually aloof president. Joe Conason has calculated that up until Sept. 11, 2001, Bush had spent 54 days at the ranch, 38 days at Camp David, and four days at the Bush compound in Kennebunkport—a total of 96 days, or about 40 percent of his presidency, outside of Washington.
Also, a bit about that famous PDB (Presidential Daily Brief) which Bush got on 06 August 2001 with the heading Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US. From the Washington Post.
The book's opening anecdote tells of an unnamed CIA briefer who flew to Bush's Texas ranch during the scary summer of 2001, amid a flurry of reports of a pending al-Qaeda attack, to call the president's attention personally to the now-famous Aug. 6, 2001, memo titled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US." Bush reportedly heard the briefer out and replied: "All right. You've covered your ass, now."
Those bits probably don't make it into most history textbooks, but they're verifiable and reveal a privileged GOP president who who was more interested in vacationing than in the details of running the country.

PLEASEEE TALK ABOUT YOUR BRAY DYNAMICS I NEED MORE OF THEM IN MY LIFE
GAH OKAY OKAY ILL TRY MY BEST TO EXPLAIN
so basically, it starts during the movie filming, which i have taking place at the start of the school year in the fall. as things with the operator start up, it sort of brings alex and tim and seth together, leaving brian and jay to start gradually getting to know each other. by the time filming is over, they consider each other really good friends. they spend all of summer break getting closer, practically moving into each other's respective houses with how much time they spend together. by the start of the next fall semester, brian and jay are inseparable. its just common knowledge that theyre attached at the hip.
but then, brian accidentally gets involved with the operator. he knows that its putting his other friends in danger, so he creates a secret identity as the hooded man to try and protect them. he starts off making videos on a channel called Intermission, warning alex and tim and seth and anyone else to stop going to rosswood. later he steals alex's tapes with proof of the operator on them, hoping to get evidence and keep alex from digging deeper. however, almost by accident, jay ends up finding some of those stolen tapes and stealing them as well.
Jay then creates his skully identity, which he posts on a channel called Declassified Surveillance. he documents all these tapes hes found, then of course, starts hunting for more. Jay and Brian don't know that each other are behind these alter egos, and still believe them to be totally uninvolved with the operator. So, soon, just to make sure Jay is staying safe, Brian uses his Hoody identity to start watching him. Keeping an eye on him through Jay's bedroom window for hours every night. Jay catches on though, spotting the hooded man one night, and realizing that this Intermission youtube channel not only knows who Jay is, but has an interest in him.
Soon after, Jay does the same as Skully, peeking in through Brian's window to watch his best friend/crush. Skully and Hoody eventually meet as well, forming an alliance and a shaky companionship. Brian and Jay both have feelings for each other, but Brian doesn't want to date Jay while he has the operator to worry about. So for the time being, he just enjoys the cuddles and compliments that Jay gives him.
Okay well. then things get a little more intimate and not so safe for tumblr. FHDGKJDFH i can detail that out later perhaps. but the end dynamic is basically this: brian has entered full on obsessed stalker level. he and jay are completely in love with each other, and are falling for skully and hoody respectively after many a intimate night spent together. theyre all crazy about each other and obsessive and little stalkers that would probably kill if they saw someone else getting flirty with the other. and i love them

just things I've seen in random places online and found it weird / interesting and maybe others will as well
In 2015-2023
Josh Peck gets married
Drake has a meltdown on twitter about not being invited causing a slew of drama
A "source" claims that Dan Schneider was invited to the wedding but take that with a grain of tiny tiny tiny salt.
The very next day after the news broke that Josh did not invite Drake to the wedding Dan posts a weird throwback behind the scenes photo from Drake and Josh of Drake where in the scene he is preparing egg yolks for cooking.
Attention was drawn back on "An Open Secret" in an article about the struggle it took to even get it out for people to watch
The Daily Mail UK wrote an article about Brian Peck, openly calling him a registered s/o pedophile and bringing up An Open Secret in the article.
Drake Bell is in a movie called Cover Versions
Josh is a member of the David Dobrik friend group on youtube around this time because it was before David Dobrik was outed for "allegedly" nearly getting someone killed while filming one of his videos
Josh actually made a number of videos with Drake during this period of time despite the fact that Josh claims they hadn't spoken in 15 years prior to Bell's outburst on twitter.
A zoey101 reboot was announced at an anniversary event, Alexa Nikolas was not invited to reunite with the cast, Dan Schneider was there.
Speaking of Alexa, 2018 was when she formally and publicly called out Nickolodeon and Dan for toxic sets and an environment that was unsafe to children.
Neds Declassified actors call Alexa out and imply she's just dramatic and making shit up
A formal investigation into Dan Schneider was launched in 2018, by the end of that year he was "quietly" let go and allegedly they gave him a lot of money upon his departure
Drake Bell starts releasing new music in mid 2018, he is interviewed by PEOPLE magazine, in this time period he does a lot of press, like actual press, not podcasts like he does now as he claims that no actual news places will have him as an interview.
Also in 2018, Brian Robbins stepped down as CEO of Nickolodeon and Butch Hartman (Fairly Odd Parents) left the network as well.
Josh has a baby with his wife, in late 2018, he publishes a photo on Instagram of Drake hanging out with the newborn.
Billboard music magazine interviews Drake on his new music
Jane Doe calls the cops and files a report against Drake Bell.
Drake cancels all upcoming concerts and shows during the length of the investigation.
Drake goes through this investigation and in the mean time he is still trying to release music, it is assumed at this time his finances were not good due, there is a rumor about a Drake and Josh revival in mid... to late 2019?
There is a rumor based on a Mexican meme where his fans from Mexico started calling him Drake Campana (which is bell in spanish), this happens in 2020 so I think it's funny that people claim that he changed his name and fled to Mexico in 2021 when these things happened before that, and another one is the talking point that people say Josh was distancing himself from Drake because of the child endangerment charge but the wedding incident was in 2017. Years prior to the public 2021 case.
There are social media posts about Drake Bell "changing his name to Campana after finding musical sucess in mexico", in 2020.... before the "fled to mexico" rumor started. There were also multiple articles stating that Drake Bell changed his name and moved to Mexico, rebranding himself based on the fact that his music was more popular there.
Drake promotes his "Lost Album" in early 2020
In late summer 2020, Drake's ex comes forward with allegations about domestic violence
Around this time, Dan Schneider allegedly has his lawyers try to get into contact with Alexa
COVID stuff puts a hamper on a lot of things, Drake starts doing at home instagram live singing sessions.
Dan had announced in early 2020 something about a project he was working on and that he was ready to get back to making shows.
Josh Peck distances himself from David Dobrik during this period due to allegations against David from multiple people, another person in the vlog squad was accused of SA so that probably didn't make Josh wanna stick around
A ton of articles pop up about Drake changing his name and moving to mexico, it stops being about him finding an audience for his music and people start to speculate it's because of allegations from his ex.
This starts to spread like wildfire on twitter and other social media platforms.
a pretty damning NYT article about Dan Schnider is posted online. noting that Dan does not update socials often anymore and is rarely seen out in public, the project he was working on in 2020 seemed to have not worked out.
Information regarding Drake's arrest come to light in 2021, the allegations against him from Jane Doe also come to light and the internet goes wild over it, tons of gossip articles and youtube channels post about it.
a 2021 article comes out about Dan, he responds to allegations of misconduct on the sets of his shows.
Kimmy Robertson hangs out with Brian Peck, shamelessly uploading a photo of them together.
The Jane Doe case is closed when Drake accepts the charges of child endangerment / attempted, and sending "texts of a sexual nature" to a minor (just putting it in quotes because that's how his defense said it)
Although the case is closed, the internet does not and start to make memes and calling Drake a predator, pdf, r*pst on any and all social media he has.
Alexa Nikolas takes legal action against her ex for SA, she also continues to call out Dan and nickolodeon, earning her a reputation from others as "overreacting" and "dramatic"
Sloan makes a video about Drake Bell, talking about the 2021 allegations but also bringing up Brian Peck, heavily "hinting" in his video that Drake is the John Doe from the 2003 case
Drake tries contact with Sloan to get the video removed, Sloan makes a bunch of weird videos about how he's being threatened and intimidated, he does not remove the video, he makes more videos on Drake and the 2021 allegations as well as bringing up the allegations from his ex(es)
Josh Peck and Drake Bell's on again off again "feud" shows up in the form of Josh claiming they hadn't talked in 15 years and that he "Had a tony soprano moment" at the VMAs in 2017, claiming he says "go apologize to my wife" regarding the wedding drama from 2017. Drake and his then wife Janet have one episode of their podcast discussing this and the failed D&J revival.
in 2022 Drake Bell was spotted in flordia allegedly huffing in the car with his baby in the back seat (oof dude wtf)
Alexa Nikolas amidst the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial drama starts doing her livestreams about exposing SA and more in hollywood.
Drake Bell gets more news stories surrounding his "odd behavior" and online spaces are still calling him a r*pist and p*do,
In 2023 Amanda Bynes has a mental breakdown and flags a car down to call 911, she is placed on a psych hold.
A few weeks later Drake Bell goes missing in Malibu, the police start looking for him and consider him to be "in danger" as some of these articles allege that he had sent upsetting text messages to his mother, and when he wasn't answering his phone, his brother calls the cops.
It's revealed that he was texting his mother, upset about things regarding his child visits as he and his wife had broken up some time before this but decided to co parent their son.
He is seen several times huffing in his car
There are screenshots from alleged conversations by Drake in his own discord, talking about how he's tired of being called a r*pist and that it'll never end.
His wife files for divorce officially
At this point he checks himself into rehab.

10 for that character building thing for an oc of your choice
Hi Mariah!
From the specific but helpful character questions. I honestly didn't think of it as an ask game, but... yeah, that works very well actually. They're a lot more fun than 'what's their favourite colour'.
So if anyone else wants to ask - ask away!
10. What fact do they excitedly tell everyone about at every opportunity?
Let's do it for the main trio.
Ianim, the Princeling, is always dying to tell some niche historical detail or light trivia about the society/politics/economics, related to the place or situation the characters find themselves in. You know, the sort of 'oh it reminds me of...' things. It ranges from fun anecdotes ('yes, the original manuscript of this poem exists, no it won't be on display at the museum, because the poet has a bad habit of scribbling rude limericks on the margins'), to unintentionally insufferable boasts ('Grandfather arranged for me to plant this tree in the park during a small ceremony with just a few cabinet ministers') - he still struggles to judge what's a 'normal' experience.
Gullin's default fun facts involve most recently declassified crystal-based technology, basically anything that's new and shiny, and is now public knowledge. However, among friends, who know both him and Ianim, he'll often share anecdotes about their time at the Academy, which he finds endearing, and Ianim - embarrassing. He just won't let Ianim live down the fact that the Princeling would skive off engineering lessons to go horse riding. And there are a couple of times in the story when he tells someone about the time he snuck into the princes' greathouse at night to see Ianim during their summer break. It did not go well. He'd love more opportunities to retell this story, but alas, it's not appropriate for every company.
Lissan will tell you about the cat he's petted on the street most recently. Ok, but more in the vein of this question, he'll often bring up that he survived being shot to the chest with a softpoint round. He'll then realise that he isn't supposed to say how he did it, so he'll quickly change the topic.

anon from yesterday, haven't even finished but YES i agree entirely: i had such an off-and-on relationship w her in the 2010s and really couldnt stand her in the 1989 days and lover is what tentatively pulled me back in. to me, lover was mostly a guilty pleasure though, i kinda liked some of the songs even though i knew they technically weren't the best (like i listened to me! but was embarassed about it) but i still felt really conflicted about it bc i could see through the "activism" of yntcd in that it was Very surface level and i could tell was just selling the album and era and "see i'm an activist now!" when she very much was not. but folklore actually got me to be a fan, it was just so enrapturing. same with evermore. and like you said, midnights was such a disappointment comparatively and im just waiting for ttpd to be the same. anyway agree w everything else you said, early morning think piece was time well spent.
separately, YES i remember his season of zoey 101 so clearly bc i was a big logan/quinn girlie. loved seeing the trailer to the reboot movie last summer (have no desire to see the actual thing) and know they end up together and that quinn had the glow up of the century.
what's funny is they put ned's declassified on netflix like a month after elvis came out and i'd just moved to a new city and didn't know anyone and i'm very ashamed to admit this but i did watch the whole thing (and really enjoyed doing so?? it held up? i did not expect that) and it was sooooo cute and funny and silly to see austin in the background all the time. i dont know that he ever had ANY lines but to watch that literally a MONTH after elvis was so funny
this is such a late reply whoops dsfsjkfjslk
BUT i do find it endlessly fascinating that so many people i know that didn't care for taylor during the 1989/reputation era found themselves climbing back in during lover. and i agree, i think it felt like a guilty pleasure more than anything at first with some of the songs because they were so unapologetically pop and powdery and sticky sweet or salty etc. and not to be that person but i think there is definitely a tie between her even showing an inch of public activism during that era and her dating joe who is very politically observant. but thats its own thought entirely lmao anyways!!
oh my god i would've died for logan and quinn. they were the IT couple for me on zoey 101. i think my fav episode of austin's season on that show was when him and zoey were trying to have that nice, private, romantic dinner at that restaurant on the hill and unbeknownst to them, logan and quinn are also having dinner there and they have to pretend like they aren't there together and somehow it becomes a huge mess lmao
BUT yessss him being an extra for ned's declassified was so cute. he was just happy to be there and i love going back and seeing him there. neds declassified in general is so good i still love watching it and other old teen nick shows.

Happy Friday y’all. Happy September! What a summer it was.
This summer I got to connect with the man @devonwerkharder. What a gift! We’re the same age and I grew up watching his show Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Fond memories there. It wasn’t until in the last year I watched Dev talk about mental health and growing up and entering your 30’s that drew me to wanting to be friends truly. Nice when you meet people the same grit of sandpaper ya know! We got together and created some stuff for his music project @goodvlly.music. He doesn’t need me to promo his shit but friends ya know? Go out there and make some! Grateful to @thechristycarlsonromano for the bromance.

some birthday
just thought I'd paste in an article that's behind a paywall
By Shane Goldmacher and Maggie Haberman
Reporting from Bedminster, N.J.
June 13, 2023
Donald J. Trump went to bed Tuesday night, on the eve of his 77th birthday, as a now twice-indicted former president and current front-runner for the Republican nomination for the White House in 2024.
“Some birthday,” Mr. Trump grumbled on Tuesday as he visited Versailles, a popular Cuban coffee shop in Miami. “Some birthday.”
He had just been arraigned on federal charges. His co-defendant was working as his valet. And he didn’t eat Cuban — he had McDonald’s. On his plane headed back to New Jersey from Miami, Mr. Trump ate the fast food while holding court with advisers and finishing edits on the speech he would soon deliver and mostly adhere to.
The surreal scene that awaited him at his private club in Bedminster, N.J., was a blend somewhere between a summer garden wedding and a political victory party. There was an air of an almost post-arraignment celebration as women arrived in their finery: fuchsia and canary yellow dresses, embroidered Trump wares and heels. Men sported suits and red MAGA hats.
Then Mr. Trump arrived. Visibly deflated after pleading not guilty for the second time in three months, his dry and low-energy resuscitation of his legal defense — even inflected with the usual references to Marxists, Communists and fascists — pleased his advisers but drew a relatively muted response from a crowd that had minutes earlier craned their phones for a shot of his motorcade.
He had entered to the same track — “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood — that he has used as an entrance theme so many times before. On Tuesday, the chorus landed differently.
New revelations. The 49-page indictment against Donald Trump and a personal aide, Walt Nauta, revealed a host of potentially devastating new details in the Justice Department’s inquiry into the former president’s mishandling of classified documents. Here are some of the most significant allegations:
There was a stunning pattern of obstruction. Prosecutors say Trump willfully ignored a May 2022 subpoena requiring him to return the documents — and took extraordinary steps to obstruct investigators. The indictment details how Nauta, at Trump’s direction, moved 64 boxes of documents so that Trump’s lawyer could not find them.
Boxes of documents were stored in a bathroom. In April 2021, Trump’s employees needed to move dozens of boxes from a ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago estate. “There is still a little room in the shower where his other stuff is,” one aide texted another. The boxes were hauled to a small bathroom and piled up nearly to the tiny chandelier next to the toilet.
Documents were stored sloppily. The indictment shows a picture of a box of top secret national security documents that in 2021 had spilled onto the floor of a Mar-a-Lago storage room accessible to many of the resort’s employees.
Trump made a “plucking motion.” The indictment recounts how Trump and his lawyer discussed what to do with a folder of 38 documents with classification markings. The lawyer said Trump made a “plucking motion” that implied, “why don’t you take them with you to your hotel room and if there’s anything really bad in there, like, you know, pluck it out.”
Trump was recorded sharing secrets. The indictment says Trump was recorded at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., showing off secret U.S. battle plans to a writer. Trump described the material as “highly confidential” and “secret,” while admitting it had not been declassified.
Trump showed a secret map to a staff member. In August or September 2021, Trump shared a top secret military map with a staff member at his political action committee who did not have a security clearance; he warned the person not to “get too close.”
One of Trump’s lawyers is a key witness. Some of the most potentially damning evidence against the former president came from notes made by one of his lawyers, M. Evan Corcoran. The lawyer’s notes essentially gave prosecutors a road map to building their case.
“I did everything right,” Mr. Trump declared in his 30-minute speech, “and they indicted me.”
When he finished, he barely lingered to take in the applause. He gave an obligatory fist pump and mouthed thanks to the crowd. Then he turned and went inside.
All told, the day encapsulated the remarkable numbness to the extraordinary that has defined the Trump era. The former president entered federal court as a criminal defendant, and now faces hundreds of years in prison. The Republican front-runner’s early 2024 calendar now includes not only key caucuses and primaries but court dates. His rivals are at times contorting themselves while discussing his alleged crimes; one circulated a petition on Tuesday demanding they all promise to pardon him.
Tumblr media
Mr. Trump’s appearance in a Miami courtroom was a humiliating moment for a New York businessman with a 40-year history of engaging in gamesmanship with prosecutors and regulators, viewing most every interaction as a transaction or something he could bluster his way through. By 2017, he had the armor of the presidency protecting him when the first special counsel investigating him, Robert S. Mueller III, began his work. And by 2021, as investigations began into his efforts to thwart the transfer of power, he had come to see another campaign as a shield against prosecutions.
But that grandeur — and legal insulation — had vanished on Tuesday. Instead, Mr. Trump’s team tried to create the sense of a man still in power. In Bedminster, he spoke with the white columns of the main house of his New Jersey golf club behind him. The indictment became another backdrop for the ongoing Trump Show.
He was comforted by a motley assortment of his most fervent supporters. They included former President Richard Nixon’s son-in-law; a former New York Police Department commissioner whom Mr. Trump pardoned in the final year of his presidency; and a former administration official whom Mr. Trump named as a representative to the National Archives.
It was the National Archives that began the winding road that ended with Mr. Trump facing charges alleging that he had defied a subpoena and kept highly classified documents. The agency, which is in charge of preserving presidential records, spent most of 2021 trying to compel Mr. Trump to return boxes of materials that he had taken with him when he left the White House. So did some of his lawyers and advisers. When he finally returned 15 boxes in January 2022, archives officials discovered nearly 200 individual classified documents, and alerted the Justice Department.
On Tuesday night in Bedminster, what amounted to a red-carpet MAGA crowd mingled to a carefree playlist of Trump-favored throwbacks: “Macho Man” by the Village People, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli, “We Will Rock You” by Queen, “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. Dozens of women wore matching red-white-and-blue outfits and chanted “We love Trump!” in unison as Mr. Trump was airborne.
The arraignment date happened to coincide with Mr. Trump’s first major fund-raiser, with those who had raised at least $100,000 invited to a “candlelight dinner” after his speech. The Trump campaign will be paying Mr. Trump’s private business in donor dollars for both events, a practice he has done for years.
Tumblr media
Robert Jeffress, an evangelical pastor in Dallas and an early supporter who said he would not “abandon” Mr. Trump, got a call from a staffer for the former president on Monday, asking him to attend. He said Mr. Trump’s supporters saw the charges as “political.”
“I think they see this as Biden’s way of getting rid of his No. 1” opponent, he said, as music blared behind him.
Senator Tommy Tuberville, Republican of Alabama, missed votes in Washington to be there to cheer for Mr. Trump.
The gathering in Bedminster and Mr. Trump’s not-quite impromptu cafe stop in Miami were reminiscent of how he handled the gravest political threat he faced in his first 2016 campaign: the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape. Back then, he immersed himself in a crowd of his supporters outside Trump Tower. Now, he did so both at his own property and in a friendly corner of a city where he will soon face trial.
“You see where the people are,” Mr. Trump said after he was serenaded with a brief rendition of “Happy Birthday” at the Cuban cafe, called Versailles, where he also stopped to pose for a picture with a mixed martial arts fighter.
He seemed determined to project nonchalance as much as defiance. His co-defendant and valet, Walt Nauta, continued to assist him throughout the day, even as the judge cautioned against the two men discussing the case, after traveling to court as part of Mr. Trump’s motorcade staff. Ever image-conscious, Mr. Trump had entered the courthouse in Miami out of the sightlines of cameras, and he avoided a mug shot and handcuffs for the second time.
The act of indicting him, Mr. Trump said, “will go down in infamy.” And he pledged to appoint a “real special prosecutor” once he’s president again to go after President Biden and his family.
“The seal is broken by what they’ve done,” he added.

Hot Summer Reads: Nonfiction Recommendations
Pageboy by Elliot Page
“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.
With Juno’s massive success, Elliot became one of the world’s most beloved actors. His dreams were coming true, but the pressure to perform suffocated him. He was forced to play the part of the glossy young starlet, a role that made his skin crawl, on and off set. The career that had been an escape out of his reality and into a world of imagination was suddenly a nightmare.
As he navigated criticism and abuse from some of the most powerful people in Hollywood, a past that snapped at his heels, and a society dead set on forcing him into a binary, Elliot often stayed silent, unsure of what to do. Until enough was enough.
King: A Life by Jonathan Eig
Vividly written and exhaustively researched, Jonathan Eig’s A Life is the first major biography in decades of the civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.―and the first to include recently declassified FBI files. In this revelatory new portrait of the preacher and activist who shook the world, the bestselling biographer gives us an intimate view of the courageous and often emotionally troubled human being who demanded peaceful protest for his movement but was rarely at peace with himself. He casts fresh light on the King family’s origins, as well as MLK’s complex relationships with his wife, father, and fellow activists. King reveals a minister wrestling with his own human frailties and dark moods, a citizen hunted by his own government, and a man determined to fight for justice even if it proved to be a fight to the death. As he follows MLK from the classroom to the pulpit to the streets of Birmingham, Selma, and Memphis, Eig dramatically re-creates the journey of a man who recast American race relations and became our only modern-day founding father―as well as the nation’s most mourned martyr.
The Wager by David Grann
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty's Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as "the prize of all the oceans," it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia. The men, after being marooned for months and facing starvation, built the flimsy craft and sailed for more than a hundred days, traversing nearly 3,000 miles of storm-wracked seas. They were greeted as heroes.
But then... six months later, another, even more decrepit craft landed on the coast of Chile. This boat contained just three castaways, and they told a very different story. The thirty sailors who landed in Brazil were not heroes - they were mutineers. The first group responded with countercharges of their own, of a tyrannical and murderous senior officer and his henchmen. It became clear that while stranded on the island the crew had fallen into anarchy, with warring factions fighting for dominion over the barren wilderness. As accusations of treachery and murder flew, the Admiralty convened a court martial to determine who was telling the truth. The stakes were life-and-death--for whomever the court found guilty could hang.
The Book of Charlie by David von Drehle
When a veteran Washington journalist moved to Kansas, he met a new neighbor who was more than a century old. Little did he know that he was beginning a long friendship—and a profound lesson in the meaning of life. Charlie White was no ordinary neighbor. Born before radio, Charlie lived long enough to use a smartphone. When a shocking tragedy interrupted his idyllic boyhood, Charlie mastered survival strategies that reflect thousands of years of human wisdom. Thus armored, Charlie’s sense of adventure carried him on an epic journey across the continent, and later found him swinging across bandstands of the Jazz Age, racing aboard ambulances through Depression-era gangster wars, improvising techniques for early open-heart surgery, and cruising the Amazon as a guest of Peru’s president.
David Von Drehle came to understand that Charlie’s resilience and willingness to grow made this remarkable neighbor a master in the art of thriving through times of dramatic change. As a gift to his children, he set out to tell Charlie’s secrets. The Book of Charlie is a gospel of grit—the inspiring story of one man’s journey through a century of upheaval. The history that unfolds through Charlie’s story reminds you that the United States has always been a divided nation, a questing nation, an inventive nation—a nation of Charlies in the rollercoaster pursuit of a good and meaningful life.
