WIP WEDNESDAY

Here’s a few snippets of my current WIP for Reed’s main storyline- this is very early on, when he’s helping Preston & the other Quincy survivors get themselves established in Sanctuary. There’s a lot of weird feelings and Reed has a nightmare about being in the vault again, but it’s not all bad- he’s quickly making new friends and connections outside of Recon Squad Gladius.

It’s the same scenario he’s replayed in his head countless times now; something triggered the cryostasis pods to thaw, his head’s reeling and he can’t stop shivering, and he can’t find a release anywhere to get the pod open. He can hear muffled voices outside but he can’t see anything through the thick, warped glass on the door. It seems like they’re somewhere on his left but he can’t make out what they’re actually saying, and he thinks they’re getting louder. Agitated, if he’s not mistaken- it’s hard for him to tell but they don’t sound pleased. A man raises his voice and a baby starts crying in response.

Chaos ensues: an argument breaks out and now multiple people are yelling, the baby cries louder, a dog starts barking, and a single gunshot rings out - followed by more barking and yelling. A few moments later, a second gunshot rings out followed by silence. Reed blindly searches for something to get the door open- any sort of latch or release, but his hands are numb and won’t cooperate, and it seems like the inside of the pod is completely smooth.

The source of the voices he’s heard finally come into his field of view - a handful of odd looking hazmat suits, trailing behind an older man in a dark jacket with some sort of armor or device on one shoulder. One of the hazmat suits is carrying a baby. Two more hazmat suits follow closely behind, one carrying what appears to be a dog - his dog, he realizes a moment later when they pass under a dim overhead light that highlights the familiar brindle coat. Right before they leave his field of view, he spots the torn fabric and dark blood smeared across the stark white of the suit’s leg. He hears the muffled voices again a few moments later, followed by a now-familiar hiss behind him.

Movement through the bay window catches his eye; true to his word, Garvey’s still on patrol even at this late hour. Reed figures he might as well go see if the Minuteman needs anything- it’s not like he’s going to be able to sleep anyways, and he figures the younger man probably wouldn’t mind some company. He cues Margot to follow him and grabs his laser rifle before heading outside.

It doesn’t take long for Reed to catch up to Preston as he continues on with his patrol route through the vacant neighborhood. He’s just turning around at the half-collapsed bridge when he notices his new company.

“What are you doing out here?”

“Figured you could use a break, or some company,” Reed replies. “I can’t imagine this is very exciting.”

Preston cracks a smile at that. “You’re not wrong there. We’d be in deep shit if this were exciting.”

I officially went insane last night and I need to break my silence once more on the subject,

Dear skk fic writers who sustain me and who I love so dearly,

The top of Chuuya's head arrives at about mouth level to Dazai. That means Chuuya's face aligns with Dazai's collarbones. On average, the arm reaches the crotch at ~wrist-level (get up and check or pull up a picture), so here we can see Dazai's crotch reaches the top of Chuuya's hipbone, while Chuuya's reaches the top of Dazai's thigh.

And because I'm thorough I brought other examples, just in case this was somehow a fluke or their height vary:

There are slight variations (also perspective and such) but it's pretty consistant. Their height difference is 21cm, it's slightly less than a head's worth, so it all tracks.

This is a great reference for their (oh so beloved) height difference for everyone, but you know why I'm saying this. You understand why I tracked their hip/crotch height. If this concerns you, you know. You can still make it work. You just need to be slightly more creative. There are easy answers. I believe in you.
