For all two of my followers and whoever else out there in the void this manages to reach:
If you love Astarion, I have a book recommendation for you. A very compelling argument could be made that the male lead in this series is basically what Astarion was based off of; the similarities are eerie (and fabulous). I’ve had these for years and I re-read them every so often, but this is the first time since bg3 launched and I’m just gobsmacked at how well this scratches the Astarion itch.
For under $12 for all 4 books, you’ll have a fantastic time.

✩🦇📿Review:
“Rhapsodic” is the perfect cure for any type of book hangover. Holy cow. I am just obsessed with this paranormal romance!
“Rhapsodic” tells the story of Callypso (Callie) Lillis, a powerful siren and badass private investigator who once made 322 deals with the Bargainer in her youth. A black bracelet beads up her wrist, serving as a reminder of all that she owes the fae king of the night. For the last seven years, however, he has not come to collect his magical IOUs. Until now. A dark presence looms over the Otherworld. Fae warriors have begun to disappear without a trace and the Bargainer needs Callie’s help to solve the mystery.
Thalassa’s book is wholly unique and like nothing I have ever read before, which is why its was so easy to fall in love with her characters and the world she created! I especially liked how each chapter begins with a flashback before transporting us to the present. This way, we do not get the whole picture right away and instead have to read the whole book to find out why the Bargainer never sought Callie out for repayment.
I really enjoyed reading from Callie’s perspective, even though I got teary eyed at times. As a young adult, Callie suffered her father’s physical and verbal abuse after her mother was killed. Though she has been through a lot, she makes it clear that she is no one’s victim.
The Bargainer recognizes this, giving her the space she needs to be independent despite his possessive and protective nature. His determination to rekindle his friendship with Callie after seven years and develop it into something more had me immediately under his spell.
I must admit that things were slow moving for the first 200 or so pages while Thalassa engaged in world-building surrounding the differences between the Otherworld (home to the fae and separated into the Kingdoms of Night, Day, Flora, Fauna, Death and Deep Earth, and Mar) and Earth (home to sirens, shifters, seers, and humans). However, once I became familiar with the world, I could not get enough of the storyline.

DARK HARMONY (THE BARGAINER SERIES 3)
SPOILERS
.
.
.
Well damn, we’re just gonna pick up right where we left off. I love that he’s not trying to talk her into staying where it’s safe. 🥰
First the women, and now the men. There’s no way they survive. There’s got to be something that’s going to happen.
And there it is. Part of me was wondering if her powers would change after becoming immortal. She can glamour faeries now 😳 I wonder what else she’ll be able to do.🤔
Flora and Fauna are basically gone. Somehow the Day Kingdom beat the soldiers. 🤔🤔🤔 wonder how that’s possible. And Des reveals his magic didn’t work because it doesn’t work on it’s own kind. 🤯.
The bathtub scene was so precious ❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰
For once I really wanted to be wrong, but nope. His father’s body is gone, and I am not surprised. 🤷‍♀️
Daaaaaaaamn, Des and Callie in prime form. That was awesome! And I was right about the Thief of Souls and Des’s dad working together. Still unclear as to how they ended up working together though.
And they’re off to visit the Day Kingdom. 🤣🤣 they have to walk.
Drunk and truthful Callie is a riot! 🤣❤️
Can the Thief of Souls just parade around as anyone who has died or does it have to be recent? Based on her “dream” it seems like he collects the souls, but why? For what purpose? An army of the dead?
Awwww, I think there’s going to be a good friendship blooming between Night and Day now 💕
Ambush, of course he ambushed them. Okay, maybe it’s just me, and don’t get me wrong I love the intimate scenes between characters, but sometimes I get tired of them happening after every battle or life threatening scene.
Awwww he’s taking her home to Earth. 😊
Awwww they’re engaged, and her ring is made of starlight. 🥳🥰🥳🥰
Okay so Thief of Souls can walk through dreams and can only get to her while she sleeps/small death. Seer confirms he’s after her then reads Des and they find out darkness will betray him, and you know what, I was starting to think that may be a thing that happens. Because between the Thief and his father it’s not out of the realm of possibility because he said the shadows don’t speak of the Thief, either from fear or loyalty.
Of course! Why didn’t it occur to me that the Thief and Galleghar are cobound? That explains everything except how they met and why they decided to be cobound.
Awwww that ring idea was genius! ❤️❤️
And now they’re married!! yay!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳 I also get the distinct feeling that Temper and Malaki may end up together permanently too 🥰
Okay, so for a split second I thought maybe Malaki was behind all of this, but then he freaking showed up in her dream. They have a serious problem if the Thief is from far, far away does he mean like he’s not one of them but maybe from another world?😳😳😳
Oh my goodness. I totally forgot about the other two kingdoms. It is weird that he was asleep and then awake though.
Okay, so just how long has Des known more than he was letting on? And what exactly does he know? I’m glad Callie chose to trust him, but still. It’s got to be bad if he wouldn’t share it right?
What fucking understanding?!?!?!🤬
FUCKING HELL NO! HE CAN’T BE DEAD AND GONE! NO. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!🤬🤬🤬
😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱😵😱
*straightens clothes and hair and acts like nothing happened* Well…the darkness betrayed him. I still have soooo many questions. One being, is this all part of Des’s master plan?
Awwww the guard ❤️
Be strong Callie. Breakdown and then get up and whoop his ass.
And by golly she does it, and does it gloriously. the Shadow King deserves what he got. I think Des would be proud of her.
Damn I forgot he can’t actually die yet. At least they’ll put him to use. Yay for Temper not letting her go alone.
The names 🤣🤣 I can’t. They’re too funny. “My Great Goddess of Fuckery and Other Magical Things.” 🤣🤣🤣 “Oh Dark Queen Who Thinks I’m a Douchebucket of the Most Epic Proportions.” 🤣🤣🤣 and “Galleghar O’Malleghar, King of Asshats, Killer of Boners, Wannabe Emperor Who Needs to Eat a Bag of Dicks and Die.” 🤣🤣🤣 I mean you can’t get much better than that.
Of course she wasn’t going to let Temper go all the way with her. LOL he thought he could run away, that’s so cute.
Wait so the Thief isn’t the true King of Death? If I understand what Galleghar just said, then he came from somewhere and Galleghar helped him overthrow the Kingdom of Death. Is that right? 🤯🤯🤯
Good news: we found Des. Bad news: the Thief is still winning
Oh sweet mama, I was worried for a minute. I thought she was going to be thrown in the pool and come out hypnotized to the god. By the way, I did not see the Thief turning out to be a god coming. Nope. Did not see that one coming at all.
Yay Des is okay!! 🥳🥳🥳 And this was all part of his plan…?
Yay the Thief is dead!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Wait she said Darkness died. Am I reading too much into that line??? 😳😳😳
Yep, definitely read too much into that line.
Yay! all the bad guys are dead, Temper and Malaki definitely have something more serious going on.🥳❤️🥳❤️
7 years later. Awwww, they lost 7 years so we’re skipping ahead 7 years. I see what you did there. These two are so cute. 🥰🥰
WHAT?! That’s where it’s going to end?! “I have a secret.” Yeah, I know what your secret is buddy. Callie is pregnant and you can’t change my mind. So happy for them. Sad to be finished though.
I have to say this was not what I was expecting when I first read the blurb for the first book. That being said, I am not disappointed in the least. I really enjoyed this series, and I’m probably going to look into more of Laura Thalassa’s books.

kicking off july with rhapsodic by laura thalassa and hoping that i like it enough to binge the whole trilogy, because i'm not wholly anti-fae romance by any means, plus, this series isn't even recent so that gives it points in my book
it's just that i'm worried i'll hate it because of my disdain towards the books to which it naturally draws comparisons

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa - The Bargainer Series
423 pages, published November 15, 2016 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book was a hard one for me to rate; a lot of the time I was really enjoying it, yet there were many times I was almost uncomfortable - especially near the end. That all said, I am really unsure if I should continue the series or not.

You kneel on the floor, gathering up the spilled jewelry back into the case. The stickiness dries on your thighs as you work at clearing the mess. You put the box back on the vanity and gather up the small bottles and vials all around.
As you reach for the displaced packet of pills, Nick bends to take it first. He stands and gives a curious tilt of his head. You watch him as you sit back on your heels.
“You don’t need these,” he says as he crushes it in his fist.
“What? Nick those are–”
“I know what they are. It’s bad for you. Fucks with your hormones.”
“But—”
“But?” He challenges as he stands over you, his trousers replaced only with a loose pair of boxers, “we’re getting married, baby. It could happen now or then. Doesn’t matter either way, does it?”
“That… that wasn’t part of the deal–”
“What do you think the deal is, angel? If you’re gonna be my wife, you’re going to fulfill your wifely duties. Completely,” he snarls, “I can be a nice husband. A great husband. So why don’t you put on a smile,” he bends and touches your cheek, “clean this up, and get to bed.”
You turn your face down and issue a wispy, ‘yes, Nick.’
You go back to your work, lining up everything as it was before. You get up and straighten the mirror as it tilts on its frame from your frantic grasp. You look at yourself in the mirror, you see the defeat glisten at the corner of your eyes. You look almost gaunt, like a ghost of yourself.
You know Nick will take everything from you if you let him. It’s an icy epiphany that makes you shiver. You glance behind you as he stands by the bed. He shoves down his boxers and looks down his hard stomach, gripping his length as he pumps it.
“Hurry up, honey,” he taunts as he steps out of his boxers.
Your eyes pinpoint back to your reflection. You drift off into a memory. Of the Nick you used to know.
“It’s fine, I got it,” you wave him off as you tap your card on the machine, “you’ll get me next time, right?”
“I swear, I got money coming in,” Nick says as he accepts his drink from the barista, “I just… I gotta move some stuff around.”
“Really, it’s no biggie,” you smile and take your steaming tea latte, “that’s what friends do.”
“Friends,” he smirks crookedly, “yeah.”
He turns his back as his cheek twitches and he leads you to a table in the corner. You sit across from him, setting your cup down as you’re distracted by the strap of your purse. You replace your card inside and untangle yourself. You’re such a mess.
“So, basic training? Sounds intense,” you hug your hands around the warm comfort of your cup. “A lot more than corporate oversight. I can’t tell you how boring this internship is. And the printer… maybe you can show me how to land a punch so I can get it working.”
“Uh,” he scratches his throat and coughs. He looks into his cup and shrugs, “you know, it’s really not that bad.”
“Made any work friends? That guy I started with, Cole, he’s a bit slow on the uptake so far. He invited half the office to some karaoke party,” you shake your head, “a bit old for an internship if you ask me. And karaoke.”
“Huh,” Nick snorts, “weird. No, I guess, there’s a girl, Mace. She’s… tough.”
“Ooo, Mace, sounds sexy. Are agents allowed to date–”
“Date– no. I’m not… not looking,” he huffs and looks out the window, “not into her.”
“Oh, but you like someone?” You prompt, “is it your neighbour? She’s hot.”
“She’s obnoxious,” he scowls at the street. You watch the stone in his eye and the tick in his jaw. “It’s nothing. It’s stupid. She’s obviously not interested.”
“Oh, that’s too bad. Maybe if you told her… that’s how I got Curtis. Once I got over all my dumb fear.”
He looks at you. The tension leaves his face and his lips curve just a little. He shakes his head and pulls back, pushing his shoulders wide.
“Like I said, never gonna happen.”

✩🌑⚔️Review:
THIS. NOVELLA. IS. EVERYTHING. We FINALLY get to read from Des’ point-of-view and the wait was certainly worth it!
Thalassa shares snippets of Des’ life, ranging from his childhood to the events leading up to “Dark Harmony.” Through Des, the reader is also able to piece together his mother Larissa’s past. We learn of the sacrifices she made for her son, making her death all the more devastating and impactful. The loss Des experiences fuels his anger, motivates him to exact his revenge, and sheds light on the choices Des makes later in life.
My heart nearly burst at the seams after discovering that Des knew that Callie existed before actually meeting her. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about this time in his life—a time when he swore off falling in love, but could not deny the strong feelings that developed as soon as Callie called upon his services as the Bargainer. Thalassa perfectly captures the exact moment Des realizes that he is in love and I savored every interaction with Callie written from his perspective thereafter.
My heart felt so full only to be shattered once Callie’s final wish separated the two of them. Though painful, knowing how Des spent his seven years parted from Callie answered a lot of my lingering questions from the previous two books.
While this novella does not come close to telling Des’ whole life story, Thalassa cleverly highlights the most important moments in his past that helps us finally understand why he is the way he is. For that reason, “The Emperor of Evening Stars” is a necessary read for fans of “The Bargainer” series!
