it’s the way Ryan Gosling plays Ken’s feelings for Barbie for me. because the feelings are unreal and fake in the way of a doll but they’re also intensely real in the way of his actual personality/who he actually is.
#it’s the way he looks at her sometimes when she isn’t looking at him#and it’s just full of intense longing and vulnerability#so it’s that combination that I love SO much#which is over-the-top cartoonish-ness that’s full of PERSONALITY and excess and conviction#and then this core of -well I already said it but INTENSE vulnerability#it’s Michael Scott in love with Holly. It’s Schmidt in love with Cece#and the way Ryan plays it is even more so because he’s a doll and of course in a real way his love for her is not a real thing#BUT IN AN EVEN REALER WAY——#To paraphrase Michael Scott (!!!!!)#it’s the realest thing anyone in Barbieland has ever known (to paraphrase Taylor)!#like he’s the only one trying to do anything real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#and so for me my Barbie takes are all secondhand#because the story they’re telling has some narrative cracks and weaknesses in it#but also I kind of don’t care because they’re not focusing on the story that is the most interesting to me personally#which is this hilarious icon of a cartoon man who is—somewhere in the depths of his little plastic Ken heart—really in love#and I know it seems like I’m just repeating and twisting what the movie DOES say. that he’s in love but it’s fake and he has to get over it#to be his own person#but that’s only the one layer for me!!!!!!#and it’s a true one. I actually love his existential crisis and the moment where he’s forced to be his own person (doll)#and that’s the best thing Barbie could do for him in that moment#but it only addresses part of the situation —the part of his feelings that are fake. it doesn’t actually see or do anything#with the real love that’s also somehow by the magic of personality there#And it pretends it isn’t. BUT IT IS ALSKKSKSJEJJE#like I’m SORRY but he is just an absolute magnet for her and he’s so deeply responsive to her presence underneath all of the exaggeration#it’s in his eyes it’s in his voice!!!!! like. Sorry I know love when I see it akskksksksksjsj#and yeah that love is very decidedly not in her character and at this stage that made sense for it not to be#because of her journey to humanity etc. but I wanted them to do something with that real love in Ken and they don’t even see it#which is OKAY because tbh I’m mostly just delighted that it’s THERE#but yeah. That’s the most interesting part of the movie to me#how could it not be

Suchalonelysunflower 1K+ Celebration
It was very quiet, too quiet. And you didn’t know if you liked it.
In all the nights you slept next to Ash he was never quiet, but you got used to his snores by now, almost to the point where you found it hard to sleep when he was not around. But tonight he was quiet, and it was a sudden kind of quiet, the one that could make goosebumps appear by the side of your neck.
First, you thought he was asleep, although sleep hasn't come easy for him lately. A few days ago he started to have a horrible cough caused by the smoke in the air of L.A, a common occurrence thanks to the fires and the heat, but the coughs were so bad it almost prevented him from getting any sleep at all. He was coughing not too long ago, maybe a few hours ago? maybe minutes? So the silence unsettled you to the point of near desperation.
Something was wrong, you could feel it.
“Ash?” You asked in a whisper, but he wasn’t answering “Ash? Are you alright?” Still, no answer.
You could hear the sirens going out at the back of your head “Something’s wrong” They said, “Has it ever been this cold?”
You turned immediately, finding Ashton laying on his back with his eyes closed in a peaceful frame, but that didn’t make you jump out of the bed. No, it was the fact that his chest was not moving that got you up on your feet in less than a second.
“Ash!” You yelled but you got no response.
His hands were cold and clammy, a greyish color tinting them as you could feel him slip away. And you were not going to let that happen.
It took you less than a second to call 911 and put it on speaker as you took off the sheets from his body and started compressions, thanking every god there was for that class you took to become a first responder.
You counted in your head each second that passed you by, measuring your compressions to the beat of that old song, 1, 2, 3… till you got to thirty, laying down to breathe into his mouth a couple of times before starting all over again.
All the weight of your body was pushed through the heels of your hands, pressing firmly and steady into Ashton’s chest.
“C’mon baby!” You cried, feeling how your tears fell from your eyes into his chest “Please, you can’t die now! C’mon!”
In the back of your head you could already hear the front door opening and the heavy footsteps of the paramedics climbing up the stairs, but not once did you stop until you heard the “M’am! Please step away, we’ll take it from here”
You felt a hand wrapping around your arm and pulling you away from Ashton’s body as another paramedic took your place and started doing compressions.
“Please, help him!” You yelled between sobs as the other paramedic led you out of the room and closed the door “Please!”
“Ma’am,” The paramedic said, “Is there someone that you could call? You shouldn’t be alone”
“M-my phone,” You stuttered through a cry “My phone is in the room”
The lady nodded and walked right back into the room, just in time for you to hear a “I can’t find the pulse!”
You felt the way your knees gave out as you fell to the ground, sliding your back down the wall as earth-shattering sobs ran through your body and made you shake uncontrollably
Ashton can’t die. He can’t. He’s barely in his twenties, he has so much to live for! His fans, his friends, his family… How are you going to tell Anne Marie about this?! What can you say? What can you do? It was only a cough! And now he was-
“Here,” The lady said, handing you the phone and placing a hand on your shoulder. “We’re doing everything we can. But I have to tell you that it doesn’t look too good and that you should probably call someone to be here with you. The police were already informed and they’re on their way”
“P-police?”
She nodded “It’s the law to call them when-” But she didn’t finish the phrase, she didn’t have to. You already knew why.
With shaky hands, you called the first number that came through your head, the only one you knew would pick up this late and that would be here the fastest. If what you thought was happening was really happening, then you knew he would want to be the first one to know.
“Hello?” Calum picked up immediately, and despite his sleepy voice, you already knew he was up from his bed “Y/N? It’s two a.m. What’s happening?”
But you couldn’t even say it. How could you say it? How do you tell someone that his best friend might be-
“Y/N?”
“It’s Ash. He’s- He-” You managed to say between the sobs, breaking down completely.
“I’m on my way” Was all Calum could say before ending the call as he sprinted to his car.
You sat there with your knees pressed to your chest, hearing the muffled voices of the people that were surrounding your bedroom.
A million things were running through your head as you cried silently. You felt a crushing pain through your shoulders but you paid no mind to it, after all that pain will disappear with time, but the pain of losing Ash? How could you ever come back from that?
You weren’t ready. You weren’t ready to say goodbye, you weren’t ready to let him go and live your life without him. It was too soon, too sudden. It didn’t feel like the end but what if it was?
“Y/N!” You heard someone call at the end of the hall.
Calum was standing there, panting heavily almost as if he ran there in the middle of the night. He was wearing his sleeping sweats and a big shirt, mirroring your own outfit as your world fell apart. You got up in a jump, running to him and engulfing him in a hug, hiding your face in his chest as you let yourself break down again. Seeing him there made it all real.
“Shh, it’s okay” He tried to calm you, but you could tell by the beating of his heart that he was just as scared as you were, he was just better at hiding it “Y/N, what happened? Is he okay? Where is Ash?”
But before you could answer, the door to your bedroom opened as a bunch of paramedics took Ashton in a stretcher to take him to the ambulance.
The image of your boyfriend’s body surrounded by doctors and pumps that helped him breathe would haunt you for as long as it needed, but it’ll always be accompanied by the words:
“He’s back! We have a pulse and we’re taking him to the hospital”
*
The white lights were blinding and burning your eyes. You haven’t been able to sleep in almost two days but you barely felt tired, all the adrenaline of that night still lingered on and as you held Ashton’s hand, you wondered if it’ll ever go away or if you’ll have to stay alert at all times.
Ashton glanced at you from time to time as the doctor explained what happened, tugging on your hand with reassurance for he knew that reliving that night must be very hard for you.
“... It wasn’t just a cough, Mr. Irwin. It’s possible that you already had a pre-existing condition that was affecting your lungs and the smoke in the air just made it trigger; it expanded to your lungs and heart, making it impossible for the air to run through smoothly. We were able to fix it thanks to the quick response of your partner, had she waited just a couple more minutes to start compressions we might’ve had a different ending today”
You closed your eyes and pressed your lips on a thin line as the tears came crashing down silently. Just thinking of what could’ve happened made your entire body go limp as the images of Ashton laying in your bed, cold-stone and without breathing filled your head.
“Thank you, doctor,” Ashton said with a hoarse voice, still recovering from everything. “Can I have the room, please?”
The doctor nodded and smiled kindly at the two of you before walking out and leaving you alone in the hospital room. And only then did you allow yourself to let out the cry that’s been burning at the back of your throat, letting your head fall on top of his hand.
“Baby,” Ashton cooed, softly running his hand through your scalp “It’s okay, Y/N. I’m okay, you hear them say it”
You lifted up your head, holding tightly to his hand as your red, puffy eyes took him in. He still had the same smile that made you fall for him in the first place, and you don’t ever want to imagine a life without it. Ever.
“I lost you…”
“And I came back,” He said, cupping your face delicately. “I came back because of you. You saved my life” You shook your head “Baby, you did. If it wasn’t for you I-”
“Don’t say it,” You begged, swallowing hard “Please don’t say it. I don’t want to hear it ever again”
Ashton’s eyes softened, he had no idea what you went through in those moments for he doesn’t remember anything other than going to sleep and then waking up in a hospital bed surrounded by you and his friends, all of you with tears running down your eyes and dressed in your pajamas.
“I’m sorry I left for a moment and you had to go through all of that” He softly offered and you chuckled despite yourself.
“You know you can’t use the “I’m sorry I died” excuse forever” Ashton laughed.
“Can I use it on Michael?”
“Maybe,” You smiled at him, wiping away some of your tears. “It was really scary, you know? I was really scared”
“I’m sorry”
“It’s okay, just - just don’t do that again, please?” You asked, letting out a breath as you held his hand tightly “I won’t be able to do all of this without you. I’m not ready and I won’t ever be”
“I wouldn’t dare” He smiled, bringing you closer for a small, sweet kiss “I’m not ready to let you go, either”

Is The Love Island Villa Haunted?: The Ghosts and Myths Surrounding Majorca’s Most Famous Bae-cation
It’s been eight weeks of flirting, fighting, and fanny flutters.
That’s right, Love Island 2019 is officially over.
The winners have been crowned, the 50k already transferred to the suitable bank accounts, and we can finally stop pinning our own commitment issues on forced and fake relationships.
But it turns out something nearly as terrifying as the loud make-out sessions maintains a permanent residence at the villa.
Joanna Chimonides – a controversial contestant from this year’s show – claims the Love Island Villa is haunted.
Giving a gaggle of exclusives to the appropriate tabloids, she claims the figure of a woman with blonde hair would stand over the beds of her and her fellow islanders.
Rocking back and forth over the sleeping contestants, the apparition clearly got these TV personalities talking, and was nearly as dramatic as Joanna walking out on her ex-bae, Michael.
And it got me thinking: could the Love Island villa be, like, totally, actually, haunted?
It turns out that Majorca – the location of Love Island’s iconic villa - is actually drowning in death.
From Napoleonic prisoners, to long-forgotten fishermen, the list of the long-deceased leaves us with a lot of ghosts to chart.
Given this, there is a strong chance that the Villa has a lot more going on than Joanna was aware of.
And so, in today’s post we are going to be discussing Majorca’s many myths and hauntings, and how they might prove that our dear Islanders might have been shacking up with something supernatural.
First things first (well, ok, aside from me being the realest), let’s talk about Majorca:
Majorca is like, seriously old.
And clearly this is the first step to becoming a spook-tastic location, but seriously.
Think back before Thomas Cook packages, and before holiday resorts where every restaurant within a six-mile radius has a menu in English.
The beautiful Island of Majorca – split between mountains and the coastline – has been a regular tourist haunt since the 19th century. Even today 8 million visitors will touch down in Palma de Mallorca airport every year to enjoy the wonders on offer.
And these 8 million will encounter a lot more history (and a lot more horror) than the dodgy cold meats in the breakfast buffet they signed up for.
During the Napoleonic Wars no less than 9000 prisoners of wars were shipped there, and its these prisoners who make regular cameos upon the island.
The Myths behind Palma de Mallorca
The capital of Majorca might be bustling with tourists, workers, and plentiful cosmopolitan vibes, but the visitors are far from alone here.
In fact, many legends – aside from ghosts - still make claims to the city.
First up is the dragon of Na Coca:
This over-sized reptile used to make residence in the sewers back in the 17th century, and according to local legend would drag unsuspecting Majorcans to their deaths.
In response to the fatalities, the governor of Alcudia challenged the dragon to a death match, and conquered the mighty beast.
Another myth that might interest you is the hunchback of Na Joana.
A hunchback (surprise surprise) was sent out by his mother to collect firewood. On his way there, he heard the soft chanting of a group of witches in a cave.
They invited the hunchback to join them, and upon enjoying his chanting talents, and offered him a favour by removing his hump.
Following this miracle, a local woman sent her hunchback son to find these witches and be unburdened of his affliction.
During the chants he became angry, and changed the lyrics.
Yep, this motherfucker decided to have a rap battle with a bunch of witches.
Na Joana – the main witch (#HeadBitchInCharge) – gave him a hump on his chest in punishment.
Our final legend is rumoured to still haunt the island today.
The ‘Bad Count’ as he is now known, haunts a nature reserve, and is probably still searching for those who punished him for his injustice.
Ramon Safartesa – ‘the bad count’ – was cruel to those that worked his land, and he made the lives of his peasants unbearable.
Following many failed assassination attempts, the peasants came together and burnt his castle to the ground.
In 1922 it was rebuilt, but the locals were offended by the celebration of Safartesa, and it was once again reduced to the rubble that still lies there today.
The Ghosts of Bellver Castle
Love Island is host to a playlist of sounds.
Kissing, canoodling, and the ruffling of sheets all figure within this sexy soundtrack of the summer.
And by ‘sexy’ I mean deeply uncomfortable for anyone watching.
Anyway – it turns out our favourite villa isn’t the only iconic Majorcan building with moaning oozing out of its walls.
Bellver Castle is known for the moaning and the clanking of chains, claiming the title of ‘the most haunted building in Majorca’.
Built 700 years ago to commemorate Christianity’s claims to dominance over its rival religion, Islam, it was be used for royal residence, refuge from the plague, and most importantly as a Prison.
Visitors can still see the graffiti written on the walls from those who were once held against their will, and 2 deadly sites are potential hubs for paranormal activity.
Torre de L’Homeage was a place where they were actually imprisoned, and Olla?
Olla was an area – not unlike a small outside garden – that lay underneath a trapdoor.
Prisoners were to be dropped through this trapdoor, and left to freeze in the winter temperatures, or swelter in the summer heat.
Next up is the ghost of Johannes Bocher
It is said that in the dead of the night, a man walks the lanes of Cabrera Island. Those that walk by him are often asked if he can be buried in his homeland instead of where his body today lies.
This is the ghost of – you guessed it– Johannes Bocher.
Having crashed in 1944 after being shot by an RAF fighter, his corpse was kept in La Cruz de Los Franceses.
This memorial also contains the tomb of another lost soul: En Lluent.
This fisherman and Prisoner of war lost his life during the Napoleonic Wars as so many other hauntings have stemmed from.
En Lluent reportedly appears at the cemetery and cries, asking to be returned to his grave.
And so there we have it
Majorca might be dripping in young-20-something-influencers looking to boost their insta followers, but it’s also drenched in the less than living residents that have stayed more than 8 weeks.
So, whether you’re looking for your summer getaway, or considering submitting your application so you too can end up on Celebs Go Dating and sell teeth whitening kits, Majorca might just have more in store than a random scottish bloke narrating your holiday flings.
Like dead people.
Have you ever seen a ghost on your vacay? And do you think Joanna is just using the story to boost her Love Island Legacy?
Let me know down in the comments!

Here are the most relatable depictions of women masturbating on TV and in movies
Tumblr media
May is National Masturbation Month, and we're celebrating with Feeling Yourself, a series exploring the finer points of self-pleasure.
For too long, female pleasure was portrayed on-screen through the prism of the male gaze.
When it came to TV and movies, scenes portraying women masturbating were basically straight out of a male director's sexual fantasy. More often than not, the woman would writhing around on her back and she'd usually begin moaning the moment her hand came into contact with her vulva. If only it were that easy.
Truth is: We don't masturbate like that. We're not always thrashing about on our back making loud fake orgasm noises. It's usually pretty mundane and unglamorous. And we can get pretty creative with positions and props depending on how we're feeling.
SEE ALSO: This sex toy company uses niche meme accounts to spread the joys of masturbation
Thankfully, times are changing. TV and movie depictions of self-love sessions are becoming more realistic, more anatomically accurate, and much, much more relatable.
We've ranked some of the most iconic on-screen female masturbation moments for their realism and relatability.
Samantha's priest fantasy in 'Sex And The City'
Sex and the City's Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) did a lot of good in smashing the stigma surrounding female sexuality. But, it needs to be said that some of the orgasm scenes were a tad melodramatic. In "The Agony and The Ex-tacy" Samantha meets a good looking priest who she quickly dubs "Friar Fuck" — only problem is, this friar won't, uuuh, fulfil her fantasy. Samantha ends up masturbating about him, during which she breaks out into a full-on operatic orgasm. If only masturbating were actually that good.
Marnie's bathroom break in 'Girls'
In Season One of Girls, Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams) does something many of us have but dreamed of doing. She becomes so aroused after talking to bonafide arty douchebag Booth Jonathan that she has to go masturbate in the bathroom of an event space. "I want you to know, the first time I fuck you it might scare you a little because I'm a man and I know how to do things," Booth says to Marnie. Soon after, Marnie locks herself in the loo, puts her hand down her tights and cracks one out while standing up. I mean, it's a great idea in principle, but who among us has ever had great success masturbating in an upright position (not me!).
Betty Draper and the washing machine
In Season 1, episode 11 of Mad Men, we witness Betty Draper become overcome with horniness after meeting a good looking door-to-door salesman. After he asks to come inside to measure windows upstairs (we've heard that one before), she decides against it and instead asks him to leave. Once he's left she begins fantasising about him and rubs herself up against the vibrating washing machine. Anyone who's ever tried this move at home will know that it's a nice idea in theory, pretty anti-climactic in practice.
The cry-wank in 'Mulholland Drive'
Naomi Watts' masturbation scene in Mulholland Drive is not bad. It's free from all the inauthentic thrashing around that you often see in porn, and all you see is Betty (Naomi Watts) sweaty, pained expression (accurate) as she makes repetitive motions with her hand down her unbuttoned trousers. The only thing we'd change is the fact that she's aggressively crying. I'm just not one for masturbating when I'm upset.

The giant vibrator in 'Slums of Beverly Hills'
Back in 1998, long before Russian Doll, Natasha Lyonne was already making quite the impression on screen. In Slums of Beverly Hills, Vivian (Lyonne) decides to try out her cousin Rita's (Marisa Tomei) massive vibrator. One tip though: Try not to use other people's sex toys.

The bidet in 'Broad City'
When it comes to portrayals of sex and masturbation, Broad City is a damn delight to watch. Free from the male gaze sex scenes of old, Abbi and Ilana have sex and masturbate like you and me. Ilana's bidet scene was a wild, wet ride — the only note I'd give is that if she'd turned her body around to face the tap, she'd have a better chance of having an orgasm. But, hey, whatever floats your boat (or bidet).
Ilana Glazer told Out magazine what makes Broad City's portrayals of female desire just so brilliant: "It's like these girls are horny but not under the male gaze. They're horny, period. Just starting from the vagina, not starting from some man looking at them."
youtube
The 'Black Swan' 'bating sesh
All too often, on-screen depictions of female masturbation show women in the same position: lying on her back with her legs spread apart. Newsflash: we don't all masturbate in the one position. That would be pretty boring. This scene gets bonus points for showing a woman masturbating in the face-down position, which is a pretty popular position that you don't often see in TV and movies.

Aimee's first time in 'Sex Education'
You always remember your first time. The first time you wank, that is. When Sex Education's Aimee Gibbs admitted that she'd never had to masturbate before, wannabe sex therapist Otis stepped in to offer up some advice. "So you're prescribing a wank?" she asked him. Correct.
Aimee's first time has a familiar feel to it — she tried out a bunch of different positions like she's on a voyage of orgasm discovery. When she finally comes, she has a sudden pang of post-orgasmic hunger. We've all been there, Aimee.

The pillow hump in 'The To Do List'
Aubrey Plaza stars as virginal valedictorian Brandy Klark who decides to draw up a list of sexual escapades to complete before heading off to college. In the film, we see Brandy masturbating by riding a pillow, which frankly you don't see often enough in movies.

The dead battery in 'Insecure'
youtube
In Season 1, episode 3 of Insecure, Issa goes to grab her vibrator only for the batteries to die pretty much immediately. Obviously, she doesn't give up on that dream straight away, so she trawls through her apartment looking for batteries and yelling out "fuck!" when she fails to find one. It's a highly relatable moment, to say the very least.
Issa Rae told Glamour about the significance of this moment: "In the [writers’] room we were talking about what it feels like to be thirsty and how we don’t really get to see female characters masturbate. Even in a funny way. Especially black women! So we wanted to portray that, while remaining true to our show and showing sexual frustration."
The Obama speech in 'Fleabag'
Anyone who's ever masturbated with a computer in front of them will be all too familiar with the specific laptop-wobble that comes, uhh, hand in hand with the act of self-love.
In Series 1 of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge brought us a refreshingly honest masturbation scene. Not everyone can attest to having masturbated to Barack Obama delivering a speech about democracy while their boyfriend's asleep in the bed next to them, but this particular masturbation scene felt mundane and real. There were no writhing around or fake orgasms in this scene, just a woman wearing her pyjamas masturbating noiselessly under her duvet as her laptop moved up and down with her hand.
youtube
Puberty hits in 'PEN15'
Puberty is rough. Especially the rush of extreme horniness that comes with it. Episode 3 of PEN15 features one of the realest depictions of teenage self-exploration ever shown on TV.
When Maya Ishii-Peters (Maya Erskine) first discovers the wonders of masturbation, she can't stop herself from doing it all the time (who can blame her, tbh). But, Maya also feels ashamed of what she's doing — a feeling that many of us can identify with. "I'm a pervert, and I really shouldn't be doing what I'm doing," she tells her friend Anna. "I've been putting my hands down my pants — my area — down there to feel good."
The episode is about learning to masturbate without feeling shame — which is a rite of passage that's not often talked about, let alone shown on our TV screens.

Happy masturbating!

A lecture none asked for about heroes
So I really want to talk about my favorite character to write and to read (and oc to watch): the hero. But like not the perfect fearless hero. That’s not a hero. As a wise man once said “being brave doesn’t mean you’re not afraid. Being brave means you’re scared, really scared, badly scared but you do the right thing anyway”. And that’s a hero, the one who looks back into the dark, his own darkness, and doesn’t walk back. That’s why sometimes being a hero means you’re standing still, not moving forward, not saying something or doing something. And that’s why we all can be heroes, just not letting the darkness take us. Sometimes a steady fight is more difficult than an active one, you just stay there, and you’re using all of yourself in order to not fall, you’re not weak because you’re not screaming or because there’s not blood, you’re the hero that has seen the darkness and he’s not willing to give to it an inch.
Okay I thing that was a digression, but back to the main topic, I’d like to bring to you some of those I think are heroes:
Hector (Iliad, Homer): he’s the bravest above all the others in the book, because he had something to fight for and at the same time it was something that could have hold him back from fighting; love, family. Most of the others fought for glory, being remembered, money, fear, while he was fighting for love and he sacrificed his life for that. Homer, with him, showed us when the human touched the hero, and what a complex character it is, and how in his lost he won.
Medea (she appears in many books and stories): I like and dislike her but I always think of her as the  defeated hero, because if you know her story, she lost everything she ever had, and every time she was the one who took it from her. She is defeated because at the end she was left with nothing, her heart was empty, but she doesn’t let the darkness take over her, she was the darkness, she embrace her, almost falling to the other side to being a hero, but not quite. Another defeated hero who couldn’t fight back the darkness that she brought herself, and infact she fell, was Anna Karenina, left with nothing, not even herself.
Sam Temple (Gone series, Michael Grant): I’m sure not many of you know him or the book, but I really suggest you because the writing and the characterization is incredible, it’s rare to find so well rounded characters in a book for teenagers (very sad and dark and full of interesting ways to die tho). Anyway I loved Sam, he’s my favorite fictional character ever (with the Doctor but since I haven’t finished watching it yet I can’t really describe him). I really see him as darkest and realest version of Captain America, like if he was real and with sparkling hands. Because they both didn’t chose to be everyone’s hero and savior, they kinda just happened to be here and have the balls to take control of the situation. The thing is Sam is not like that, he doesn’t care about power nor glory, and most important he knows that being in charge means you have to do things people won’t expect you to do, but are necessary. And he’s willing to do those things but he can’t do them with everyone watching. He saw the other side and didn’t make a joke of it. He really looked into the darkness eyes (literally *spoilers*) and didn’t hesitate to fight back, but he’s a soldier not a king and the fact the he realize that he doesn’t have the nature to rule, because he saw what that means, makes him a hero. It could seem like a coward, but coward doesn’t take this kind of choices, a coward would have just turned its face.
This is a long ass post but I have a few more what is wrong with me.
Ulysses (Odyssey, Homer) this is gonna be short but thats it. Ulysses was the hero who cried in a world of men who only fight and die, a hero who fought with more than a sword, more than his brain. He cried and that made him immortal.
Wolverine: the greatest hero above all. Don’t turn the post away now just because I’m talking about a super hero, because superheroes before being that are humans, and that’s what wolverine his. The immortal hero who saw the darkness and the light, fought on both side, and chose to stay in the middle, because he saw too much, he saw the darkness in the light and the light in the darkness. He was forced to do the most painful thing for a man like him: to remember, the loss, the love, the friends, things that are gone and are never coming back for him. They took literally everything from him, even his name (maybe this remind you of something) but in the end he kept a piece of himself, well hidden, but never forgot. That may sound like something that would never happen in real life, but I can assure you that they don’t need to put adamntium inside you or brainwash you to make you suffer at the point you just want to die and forget. I grew up with depression, more or less severe, depends on the time of my life, and this “superhero” helped me to don’t let go because I thought that if he can survive all of this so can I, without forgetting, because closing yourself to the world isn’t the answer, the world will always find a way to you. You just gotta take your pain, and remember, and keep yourself and go on.
This might sound weird but another character that always spoke to me next to Logan was Jane Eyre, my favorite book. That’s because she’s the strongest person I can think of, she never let anyone put her down, she always found her way, she never needed anyone but she never stopped loving. And love is great, no matter how much pain you’re in, you should never forget about love, because when you forget about love you lose hope, and only when you lose hope the darkness win.

Good Things that happened this year.
This year pretty much changed who I am as a person, and of course, it came with it’s good and bad. Having learnt from the bad, I think we should all just focus on the good that happened this year.
One of the best things that happened to me this year, was, surprisingly, people. This post is to remind you all of the impact you’ve had on me. Each of you, from your own little corner of the world has helped make my days and nights better. So these 2 words come from the depth of my heart, with all the emphasis I can place and all the gratitude I can muster: Thank you. I hope each one of you finds strength similar to, if not greater than what you’ve given me.
The Good Things of 2017:
B.A.P
@roses-for-jongup honestly no amount of words can fully convey what you mean to me, and this is a fantastically sub par attempt. I’m the most comfortable with you, and that should say a lot. we’re armed with absolutely ridiculous knowledge about each other, and your smallest words, deeds, and eDITS have made me so happy. as I always say, you’re my ‘all of the above’, my mvp, and the only annoying person I’d take a couple of bullets for. a honeybun.
@anna-something to the world you may be a stoic powerful gal with a thunderous ability to tear us all a new one, but to me, you’re also a soft socialist grandma who sends me lovely drunk texts. You’ve changed the way I look at so many aspects of the world. I could literally talk to you about anything and have the time of my life. Your words probably matter to me the most. Thank you for improving me. I owe so much to you.
@daehyuns-beautiful-golden-skin michael, nothing makes me happier than you angrily key smashing at everything I say. You’ve made me feel better about myself, raised my self confidence, and always, always supported me. You’ve given me a shoulder to lean on and an ear to constantly rant to. Just remember, be it your memes, your dancing or your life in general, suds shall always be in the audience cheering you on.
@doitforbangyongguk I’m always stunned by how soon I got so comfortable with you, It’s just your aura. You’re hilarious, kind, and you’ve helped me through so much. DOOT DOOT.
@zeloswaffles Ah my sweet pancake mother who constantly complains about my unnecessary rudeness. Thank you for checking up on me, for taking an interest in me, for the advice, for everything.
@daehnii MY LOVELIEST WIFE, I swear we have the best conversations, and I’ve never met anyone with such similar opinions to mine. You’re the softest bean and every single message from you cheers me up. Gosh I love talking to you sosososososoooo much i just love you lei bye.
@foxjae you’re pretty much the reason I got motivated to write more. You always listen, you always contribute and I always learn something when I talk to you. And it makes me very happy knowing that you’re proud of me. You’ve called me out on my mistakes and I genuinely do appreciate it. The realest, coolest, queer mom.
@dreamermoonchan you’ve been there since the absolute beginning and I treasure you so much? You’re up for any kind of conversation, and we bond over so many shared interests. Thank you for making me feel welcome in the fandom.
@onlystraightforjongup a severely underrated conversationalist, you send me big paragraphs, I send you big paragraphs, and it’s bloody brilliant. If I have to endlessly hypothesise about B.A.P in all sorts of universes, I’m glad it’s with you. one of my absolute favourite people.
@jongup-is-an-enigma the most approachable and open person I know. You’re so fun, and you’ve made me feel like I’m fun too, ya know? This gal knows how to cheer someone up. I hope you know that I’m always here for you, and so is my butt.
@zainbap my lovely unicorn dad, one of the defining aspects of my experience here is you sighing at every second thing I do. Your random bouts of affection, subsequently followed by utter exasperation are what I thrive for. You’re a beacon of light to not just me, but the fandom. i hope youre proud of how soft I’m being.
@jion-a my first mother, president of the mom squad and also one of the first people who gave me a sense of belonging in the fandom. You’ve been so kind to me. I almost feel like I don’t deserve you. Thank you for being a constant pillar of support for this smol child.
@7btobap6 ahhh my fight aunt, trust me I’ve never enjoyed fighting with anyone as much as I do with you. Beyond our external layer of hatred for each other, I hope you know that nobody probably has understood my problems better than you. I love you lots.
@fae-hyun I miss you like a hellofa lot okay. I genuinely don’t know what I’d have done without you. My everpresent daestan, we have shed tears of pain thanks to our goofball of a bias, but it’s all worth it because you’re you. God knows I’m still the koala to your tree.
@bapofficial you’ve borne my constant annoying callouts, the never ending puns, and all the general screaming and frankly, this is a big achievement. You’re so positive and motivating and your mere presence makes me feel a little brighter.
@bap-time ah my local mean dispenser, i will always be your fight child. Thank you for having my back, encouraging my content, and smothering me with all that soft. I love you even though you have poor taste in fashion.
@thediebutterfly my timezone sharing niece, you’re a blessing to the fandom. I love that we’re on the same wavelength about a lot of things *cough*bangdae*cough* and I love freaking out with you. Thank you for tagging me in cute/rude/all kinds of posts, it makes me wonderfully happy.
@aegyo-chan you have such a calming air about you, It’s so pleasant, and feels like home. I love that I finally have someone to cry to about the exploits of Kim Himchan while simultaneously torturing you with Daehyun. I love how we bond over our similar cultures. And I’m so thankful for how lovely you’ve been to me.
@moondance-mp3 MY ONION I DON’T EVEN REMEMBER HOW WE STARTED TALKING but I’m so glad we did. You never fail to make me laugh. We’re the queens of discourse now and no one can take that away from us. I love you as much as you love dae’s nose.
@bangedhim it’s all thanks to my lucky fate that I found you (see what i did there). weve been talking for longer than I can remember, wow. And you’re so goddamn entertaining. My cheeks hurt because of everything you send to me, the smiles just won’t stop. ily.
@daehdream remember that time I tried to adopt you and failed. Gosh golly everyone’s come a long way. I hope you know how much I and the fandom love and treasure you. an A+ fellow daestan and one of the strongest people I know.
@happy-daes my sweet billie bean, you’re very loved, and very strong and I’m always proud of you. All of your tags and all the sweet things you’ve said about me have made me feel loved too. Thank you.
@mooncakesjongup MY FIGHT ADI AUNTY, it was honestly the best thing for me to find out about how close we lived. Let the bollywood memes and b.a.p connections, and calling out each other’s kinks never stop.

2017 Year End Music List
Hello and welcome to another installment of my annual album/song of the year lists. It was a rough year! Thank you for reading I love you so much.
20. Fleet Foxes - Crack-Up
I never liked Fleet Foxes. I always thought they were the product of an NPR think tank (just like Wilco or Neko Case). But I gave this album a shot and it really did it for me. The music is just so lush! My only issue with it is that you kind of have to give this album your undivided attention and listen to soak in all of the details. You can also file this one under “albums that sound like their cover art”
19. Colin Stetson - All This I Do For Glory
Every release from Colin Stetson is remarkable in it’s virtuosity and sheer innovation. No other artist on this planet can do what he does with just a saxophone. However, since Vol 2: Judges his work has been a lot of the same. It might just be me, but I felt like this release changed up his formula just enough to make this some of his best music yet.
18. Blanck Mass - World Eater
I think any album by a member of Fuck Buttons has a certain loudness requirement it has to meet to be considered as part of their body of work. While I don’t think they’ll ever match the pulsing wall of buzzsaw distortion that was Street Horrrsing, this album takes me to that same musical realm.
17. Jlin - Black Origami
THIS ALBUM IS BATSHIT FUCKING CRAZY. It sounds like the drumline from the movie Drumline and a West African drum circle playing together but they’re both are performing on computer instruments. These songs absolutely refuse to be background music. There were moments on here that left me with my jaw dropped, just staring at the speakers because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
16. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
Big Fish Theory is a great example of an album where the risks pay off and Vince Staples feels like the only rapper capable of putting it together. The production is pretty out there and not only does Staples make it work, he makes himself at home in it. Even with producers like SOPHIE (if you had told me even a year ago that I would hear Kendrick Lamar rap over a SOPHIE beat I would have called you crazy), this album is West Coast to it’s core.
15. (Sandy) Alex G - Rocket
This album is honestly kind of a mixed bag, but the good songs are great and led me to listen to listen to other a lot of older Alex G. So I figured it was worth including in this list. To me, his music falls into the space somewhere between This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About and Either/Or.
14. Mastodon - Emperor of Sand
Since no one else is saying I’ll go ahead and say it: Mastodon is STILL COOL and this is by far their best album since Crack the Skye
13. Ross from Friends - You’ll Understand/Don’t Sleep, There Are Snakes
Lo-fi house gets a bad rep because it’s bandcamp music made by enigmatic producers with funny names and is basically just an offshoot of vaporwave. That being said, lo-fi house is at the very least more functional than straight up vaporwave music and honestly…what’s wrong with funny names?
12. Sheer Mag - Need to Feel Your Love
I love this band. They make such PERFECT and AUTHENTIC sounding 70′s rock. Do you remember The Darkness??? I liked The Darkness when I was A Teen but you could always tell that they were copying from someone else’s playbook. With Sheer Mag, I feel like you could put their music on a playlist right next to a Thin Lizzy song and no one would think anything of it.
11. Thundercat - Drunk
To me, this is Thundercat finally hitting his stride. The shorter songs suit him well and keep the album from getting stale. A lot of artists this year tried to capture the essence what it’s like to live in such buck wild times and a lot of them fell flat . This album captures that essence without even trying.
10. Visible Cloaks - Reassemblage
You know how you go back to look at the music you listened to the most over the past year and it’s like...what is this album I listened to like 100 times apparently? And it’s that album you would always play while riding public transit to help you relax and zone out? That’s what this album is and it’s really good
9. Power Trip - Nightmare Logic
Easily my favorite metal album in years. Not a moment of filler. This is music to punch people in the face to.
8. Kelela - Take Me Apart
After seeing Kelela play the side stages at virtually every festival I’ve been to in the last four years I am really happy to see her blowing up from this release. The central theme of this album of yourself apart and putting yourself back together after losing someone hit EXCRUCIATINGLY close to home for me this year.
7.  Charli XCX - Pop 2
Turning her back on the Iggy Azalea paycheck money to work with a set of producers who make music that sounds like you’ve wound up on the WRONG part of the internet solidifies Charli XCX as one of the realest artists working in pop music today.
6. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
This album is the last nail in the coffin of every rapper that is not Kendrick Lamar. It solidifies him as the peerless, undisputed heavyweight champion of rap music (honestly…the second half of “DNA” alone accomplishes this). It’s been such a gift to watch Kendrick make his way to the top.The only thing that worries me is that now that he’s at the top where can he go from here?
5. Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me
One of the most gut-wrenchingly sad albums I have ever heard. What sets this apart from other albums about death is the specificity. It is an unadorned look into what someone goes through when someone they love dies. I think I’ve been able to make through the album start to finish a total of two times
4. Fever Ray - Plunge
What makes this album great is that it carries the same political themes brought forth on The Knife’s last album into a more refined and structured space without it sounding any less bizarre. No other lyric better summarizes the current global political climate than “THIS COUNTRY MAKES IT HARD TO FUCK”
3. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION
I wouldn’t say that it’s St. Vincent’s best work by any means. However, there’s a handful of songs on here that just fucking GET to me. A lot of people seem to view MASSEDUCTION as this fun and sexy album but to me it’s just overwhelmingly sad. Yes there are some fun latex BDSM moments here, but they exist in the context of an album about loss and addiction. I don’t think I’ve ever cried at a concert as hard as I did when I heard this album performed live.
2. JAY-Z - 4:44
This is one of the best albums of Jay-Z’s entire career. The real hero of this album, however, is No I.D.’s production. The "doing everything as big as possible” sound of Jay-Z’s other recent work only seemed to make him sound older. On this album, over slower more soulful beats, he sounds more in his element than he has in years. Jay-Z if you are reading this I do NOT forgive you
1. SZA - Ctrl
If I could give AOTY specifically to the line “why you bother me when you know you don’t want me” I would. I connected so much with the loneliness and the uncertainty and the self doubt that lives at the heart of so much of this music. This is one of those albums that I will carry with me forever because it will remind me of a specific part of my life that was bad. And I’ll go back to listen to it later and I’ll be brought back to that time but I’ll miss it for some reason. Does this happen to anyone else? There’s a lot of music that takes me back to specific BAD moments in my life and makes me miss those moments. Hopefully that is normal.
Songs of the Year:
Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3
(Sandy) Alex G - Bobby

Moments In Song No. 019 - Victor
“Moments In Song” asks people one simple question, “What are you listening to?” We believe that you can learn a lot about an individual and their experiences based off of the music they love. For every installment we ask someone to make a playlist of 10 songs they’re listening to, whether it be something new they stumbled upon, or a song they’ve always loved, and explain the story behind their choices. The person’s playlist is then uploaded, giving them the chance to share it with others. Each post aims to profile someone from a different walk of life, whether they be an artist, a student, the mailman, a school teacher, an athlete, a nurse, your next-door neighbor, anyone with a love for music; showing that no matter where we come from, what we do, or what we look like, music has the ability to bring us together.
With an ethereal set of songs that accompany his pensive thoughts, pharmacy student and rapper Victor gives us a track by track breakdown of his playlist. We talk his musical influences, Clams Casino productions, and what he thinks is the greatest song of all time.
Listen to Victor’s playlist on Apple Music and Spotify.
Words by Julian | Photos by Tayo
What was thought process behind putting your playlist together?
I just made a playlist of almost all the songs I listen to when I’m in pensive thought or songs that have a cool ethereal mood to them. I’ve always been in tune to that kind of music. That’s why I have two songs from Clams Casino on there. For me, Clams Casino is probably one of the best producers of the past decade. Very influential. His influence spans what most people can even fathom. If I look at his work with Lil B in 2009, 2010, and then look at the type of beats all these rappers are rapping on now, or their style, and how they rap, Clams Casino and Lil B were very influential.
Without Lil B and Clams Casino partnering, Clams Casino doesn’t have the platform that he has today. Then someone like A$AP Rocky probably doesn’t hear him, and so his first two projects don’t have that Clams Casino sound. You look at so many artists that started to blow up in 2010, 2011, A$AP Rocky, Mac Miller, Lil B, they were really coming out with that “drop your top, relax and cruise to music,” and I think Clams Casino is a big part of all of that.
Other songs that I put on my playlist from underground artists like Reva Devito, Thatshymn, Abhi//Dijon, these are artist I listen to when I chill, or when I study. That’s what I’m trying to go for with the playlist. Just a type of sound that you don’t have to necessarily have move to it, you can just sit back, relax, and get into your own zone.
I put my song on there at the end because I thought it helped tie everything on the playlist together.
I was listening to your playlist earlier and I noticed there weren’t any real dance or turn up kind of songs on there.  I felt like they all fell into either a boom-bap category, with like eu-IV and Reva Devito, produced by Tek.Lun, the old school Kendrick, and on the other half, that Clams Casino, Abhi//Dijon, Sango, kind of relaxed and melodic category. Did you know from the start that this is the kind of theme you wanted your playlist to encompass?
Yeah absolutely. Even though some of these songs are kind of old, like “Ignorance Is Bliss,” “Realest Alive,” and “Moments In Love,” which is from the 80’s, I listen to them either every day or at least once a week. Especially times when I’m in school, studying, or in the mood to delve into my thoughts.
“Ignorance Is Bliss” is one of Kendrick’s best songs to me. Overly Dedicated does not get the recognition it deserves as a cumulative work. I personally do believe that Overly Dedicated is on the same tier as Section.80 in terms of Kendrick’s bravado and lyricism, because he’s really rapping something serious on that song. I still go back to those to projects a lot. I feel like a lot of the themes on there are universal. There’s no filler on them. You know exactly what you’re getting.
“Moments In Love” is a long song, it’s like 10 minutes long, and that version has always been my favorite. People don’t know how influential The Art Of Noise are, just to music in general. When people listen to Yeezus or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, or some of the stuff from Michael Jackson’s HIStory album, The Art Of Noise did that stuff back in the 80’s.
I’m not super familiar with them, are they a pop group? Electronic?
They were an experimental band in the 80’s from the U.K. So many things that people are doing today, they did 30 years ago, which is mind blowing. The way “Moments In Love” is structured, you have a lot of different part, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of different breaks. And all of these breaks evoke a different emotion, and plays into the emotions that someone might feel in a relationship. When I was making this playlist, I knew it had to be number one. In my opinion it’s the best song of all time.
Wow, that’s quite the claim.
Honestly. Out of everything that I’ve ever listened to I can’t find anything, at least in my personal opinion, that really…
Evokes that same kind of emotion,
Yeah emotion, the techniques they use for the time era they were in. If you listen to other stuff from the 80’s compared to this, this is just crazy.  It’s still even really different compared to music out today. Along with that, its influence that people may or may not know about is amazing.
And then after that I went to “Realest Alive.” Lil B’s version isn’t on any streaming sites, but it’s a great song.
Tumblr media
What era of Lil B is that?
That’s 2010 Lil B. So that’s when Lil B was just really starting to get out there. This was back when Lil B would release 5 songs a day. Literally he would release 5 different songs a day, and he would have 4 troll songs, and one song that was great. And he would do that on purpose because when he tries he’s an extremely good rapper. The thing is that he’s a deconstructionist. If you listen to Lil B from 2008/2009 he’s rapping on perfectly on the beat, but towards the end of 2009 he released “Like a Martian” and started doing all his based freestyle, stream of consciousness stuff. So during that time, this would be the 1 out of the 5 songs he’d be serious on. By 2011 he was legitimately a well known phenomenon.
Yeah I feel like around that time he was doing a lot of work with Soulja Boy, and influenced that way he made music after that. And even guys now like Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi, there’s definitely some Lil B DNA in them.
For sure. So from “Realest Alive” it goes to “Ignorance is Bliss,” which has Kendrick rapping about a whole range of different topics.  I feel like that streamlines very well into “Numb” by Clams Casino. Now from “Numb” I wanted to lighten up the mood a little bit so I went into songs that are love related. Once you get to “IVyou Pt. 2,” “Rose Gold,” “Therapy” those songs show more of a positive side of what one can feel in a relationship.
You go to “How Do You Love Me” by Xavier Omar and Sango. That song is actually about Xavier Omar asking God, “How could you even love me, even though I am the way I am, even though I am this imperfect being?” I think it segways nicely from “Therapy” because Thatshymn talks about how weed, drinking, and sex can be a form of therapy, but for Xavier Omar he’s talking about how God can be a therapy. For me. I feel like that’s a great contrast, and shows two different forms of love.
And I just finished things with “Stu Pickles.” It’s a good mellow track, talking about relaxing with friends and everyone working together to achieve their goals. For the lyrics I say, “I’m way to blessed to not stress right now,” it’s just me talking about God blessing me to be in the situation I’m in.
I think in our society we take a lot of things for granted. I saw a crazy statistic one time when I was younger. It said if you have a house with electricity, a roof over your head, a bed, and all these other commodities, you’re already richer than 75% of the people in the world.  If you think about that it’s crazy. Everyday really is a blessing, and you try your best to fill it out, and find your way to where you need to go.
What songs and artists made you want to start rapping and making your own music?
If I’m thinking about my favorite rappers growing up, Tupac is number one by a mile. Tupac was extremely influential to me. All Eyez On Me, I know that entire double album back and forth because my dad had the OG double CD that was released in 1996. So after Tupac, it’s Nas, all of his stuff. The first album I ever bought with my own money was his Untitled album. That and the Wu-Tang Clan’s 8 Diagrams. Wu-Tang Clan was also very influential to me. Enter the 36 Chambers  I know that album so well. ODB was so ahead of his time. You listen to “Brooklyn Zoo” and the way he’s rapping is so crazy, but somehow he’s perfectly in pocket, he’s perfectly on the beat. In order to rap like that is extremely hard. ODB to me is just an extraordinary rapper.
Any final thoughts on your playlist?
It’s a microcosm of me throughout the years. It represents the type of music I listen to when I’m in a pensive mood. It’s “sit down and think” music.

Because they will call you out. And it will be the most artistic dig you’ve ever heard, ok? Everything is Love continues to dominate, now that it’s no longer a Tidal exclusive as of this morning, and everybody can treat their Mondays with a major dose of the queen and her king. So, as fans dive deep into Bey and Jay’s new joint album, they’ll quickly notice that these two are ready to bare their souls, and their beef, with fellow artists, other celebs, and you know Jay-Z had something to say about the Grammy’s so let’s break it all down right now. Starting with the celebs, Beyonce and Jay-Z address some beef with more than a couple famous faces. On ‘Boss’ Jay-Z seemingly calls out Drake who turned down a Tidal contract for an Apple contract, rapping QUOTE “Rather work for the man than work with me.” He also potentially calls out the invoices that Drake sent to GOOD Music after his very public rap battle with Pusha T. And after tons of talk that things weren’t so great between Jay and his buddy Kanye last year, it’s no surprise that there were a couple mentions of their beef too, even seemingly including a nod to Jay-Z and Beyonce not attending Kim and Kanye’s nuptials. On ‘Friends’ Jay-Z raps ““I ain’t going to nobody nothing when me and my wife beefing,” which at least sounds like it wasn’t personal, unlike the dig at the Jenners, which was definitely personal. We all remember when Kendall and Kylie got some major heat for releasing a line of t-shirts in their line which featured copyrighted pictures of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z directly references the t-shirts, rapping QUOTE “it hurts you ain’t never meet ‘em.” Meanwhile, Beyonce just wants all of the haters, in general to know she’s not going down, when she so eloquently sings a giant F YOU to anybody QUOTE “patiently waiting for my demise.” And we already know that Jay-Z has no shame bringing light to his view of how recognition is given to artists by major organizations, liiiiiike the Grammy’s, and has even turned down performance opportunities at the show. On the track, ‘APESHIT,’ Jay Z raps QUOTE “Tell the Grammys fuck that zero for eight shit / Have you ever seen the crowd goin’ apeshit?” And if the Grammy’s isn’t intimidating, then neither is the Superbowl, cuz Jay-Z called them out too, rapping QUOTE ““I said no to the Super Bowl / You need me, I don’t need you / Every night we in the end zone / Tell the NFL we in stadiums too.” Ouch. And just because they’re the realest, not even each other were off limits. The final track of the album, ‘Love Happy,’ has Beyonce directly addressing Jay-Z and is there a nod to Becky in there? Bey sings QUOTE “Yeah, you f–ked up the first time, we had to get remarried,” continuing with QUOTE “Lucky I ain’t kill you when I met that b—” I wanna say B is for Becky but like could also be bitch? Maybe all of the above? And that’s how you air your dirty laundry in the most beautiful way ever. Now I wanna hear your thoughts, so let us know how you feel about all the shade down in the comments.
