In Dual Destines, when Pearl is introduced, this line is randomly in white, while all the rest are blue. So I humbly ask
Who the fuck is he talking to right now?

I am BARELY resisting going full red-strings-corkboard on this season. And by barely resisting I mean not resisting at all here is an extremely long list of the events those pins would be marking out.
BigB getting a Task that was a different color than everyone else's. It's not just a randomly assigned Hard Task, bc Scar rerolled for a Hard Task and his was also just a white envelope. It's fundamentally different.
That task taking BigB away from socialization, and seemingly being an incredibly time-consuming and dull request. Of profound disinterest to any watchers.
The phrasing of his Task!!
Dig a big hole. All the way down. At least 3x3. Make it your base if you want.
Everyone else's are direct and formal - the only one with more than one sentence was Skizz's, with the rule clarification of "One attempt only." Bigb's Task is four short abrupt sentences. It is also the only Task to contain extraneous information, 'Make it your base if you want.' The requirements (at least 3x3) feel like an afterthought to mimic the numerical/specific demands of the other tasks.
Evo symbol on the face of the Secret Keeper statue.
The fact that there's a statue at all; the fact that there is a physical representation of what is assigning tasks that everyone must complete, when previously everything was always handled via commands and unseen RNG.
Grian talking to the statue, and (bc of his Actual Role as game organizer) acting as a mediator for the impartial decisions handed down, speaking for it.
Grian making one last bad joke and saying he doesn't know if it counted or not- depends on whether we the audience laughed.
Grian asking for task recommendations from the audience. The watchers are making the tasks. The Watchers are making the tasks.
Again I could be off-base, and I'm not usually even that smitten with bringing in Evo lore. I don't want a Big Bad really...but. It feels like something very unusual and intentional and cool is happening in this series. And I'd guess we'll know if theres something going on once we have more than one data point.
My largely unfounded suspicion is that there is another being (maybe Listeners, maybe something else) trying to reach out to the Players via decoy Tasks, and BigB was the first recipient. Get them alone, make them of disinterest to the watchers, and tell them something we don't get to know.
Because that's the really, really fucking cool part (if my wacky theory is remotely right): We're the bad guys. We're the ones giving out tasks - hell, we're the ones actively brainstorming harder and crueller tasks in Grian's comments!
If they actually made a story where the Players have to keep secrets from us I will be delighted. Bc that is the same genius bullshit that made Evo Watcher lore so fun

Lazarus Water is a special water to Ghosts. Not for drinking, but more for like...baptism. Into servitude.
Anyone who has been dunked in Lazarus Water is bound by soul contracts to serve the Ghost King, whoever it is.
The more someone has been dunked, the more binding the contracts.
Jason and Bruce? They would have to be given a direct order.
Damian? A side-minded mention would force his body to comply with the Ghost King's wishes.
Ra's? Ra's is screwed.
Because the Ghost King is now a fourteen year old boy, and Ra's has been dunked so many times that all said boy has to do is think and the Demon Head is scrambling to comply.
Danny doesn't know what he did to have ninjas at his beck and call, but they're really taking the workload off of his shoulders by fighting his rogues when he has homework to do or sleep to catch, so he's very okay with all of it.

"IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE" As someone who's been playing TWST since march and stopped going out of my way to be spoilerfree after I got stuck at Overblott!Jamil? That's honestly been one of my favorite things about it - seeing something in fanart or a comment you think is just fans joking, only for it to be canon. "The economy!", "May I also throw a tantrum?", Malleus' gargoyle thing, and... everything about Rook being my top examples.
there's a whole bit in Trey's platinum birthday card where he goes on about how he became increasingly obsessed with mustard for like a week straight until the other students held an intervention. how are you supposed to talk about this. how can you bring up something like Trey's descent into mustard obsession to the point that the other characters are worried for him without it sounding like the most obvious lolrandom "he mentioned it once and now fandom acts like he puts mustard in everything" joke. also, how can I slip this into every Twst post from now on, because I need everyone in the world to know that this is a real canon fact about Trey "I'm just an average normal guy (who sticks my hands into people's mouths and owns 20 toothbrushes and used to eat flowers off the side of the road)" Clover.
for bonus points, 1) the punchline is that he still doesn't even like mustard that much, 2) he's saying all of this to Leona, and 3) Leona is actually kind of invested in Trey's mustard story for some reason, which is the most unbelievable part of all of this to be honest. (then Trey gets distracted by a painting of the Cheshire Cat and Leona takes the opportunity to powerwalk away to freedom before they can start talking about dijon versus spicy brown or whatever and extend this bit even longer)

I love it when people hop on posts on fandom content and go WELL, THAT WOULDNT WORK, BECAUSE IN THE LORE— look. I have read countless stories of various methods in which the authors Get That Man Pregnant™️. Mayhaps suspend your disbelief in fake characters for ten minutes so that strangers online can have their fun. If you're only interested in enforcing 100% canon lore, your calling is in editing wiki pages.

I was thinking about Bingqiu messing with common horror video game plot-lines by doing their whole Bingqiu thing.
Imagine Shen Yuan transmigrating into a vaguely Christian mythology based crapsack video game world, where he is the cruel monk, Shen Qingqiu, who teaches at some terrible underfunded orphanage where one of the orphans, Luo Binghe, is *gasp* the antichrist.
Rather then doing what his character is supposed to do (mostly harass the child with abusive exorcism attempts, get defrocked for it, then do the whole Cassandra thing where he tries to warn everybody Binghe is evil but they don’t believe him) Shen Yuan does his Shen Yuan thing instead and dotes on Luo Binghe constantly.
Luo Binghe was supposed to keep finding himself abused by various corrupt organizations, only to rise to the top and get the better of each one through karmic and often creepy demon shenanigans, leaving them as ruined husks in his wake, and gradually losing more and more of his fragile ‘humanity’… but apparently that won’t be happening.
All the totally deep and meaningful allegories indie developer Airplane put in there about the antichrist merely being a reflection of humanity’s own evils… Gone!
Shen Qingqiu taught Binghe loads about ethics, and while Binghe isn’t quite sure he gets it (and does still harass and kill a good number of particularly nasty people with his demon powers) he’s a lot less scorched earth about things.
It is very important he doesn’t make his beloved teacher (*cough* the future Queen of Hell *cough*) sad! Shen Qingqiu happens to like the earth being in one piece, so in one piece it will stay.
Airplane transmigrates into his own game later as the Player Character.
The Player Character is meant to be an amateur investigative reporter who gradually reveals Binghe’s life story by investigating all the ruined, haunted, and demon infested locations left in his wake, and then ultimately attempts to save the world from the apocalypse. Instead Airplane discovers that besides a few powerless asshole ghosts and some well contained eldritch horrors, everything is fine actually.
He tracks down Binghe while trying to figure out what the hell happened to the plot, only to find the man playing housewife to his former asshole teacher???
Don’t worry, Airplane! The apocalypse is canceled, and the only soul Binghe wants is Shen Yuan’s… by which I mean he wants it bound to his own in eternal matrimony.
Go hang out with that cool ice demon you designed for that one level.

I know the Zelda Timeline is hardly the most popular thing out there, but for me, it's always been endlessly fascinating. Everything is the same. It's all different. It's linear. It's cyclical. It branches and twists and comes back together. It disregards its predecessors. It can't let them go. It thrashes against change. It can't stay the same.
Every game is a reboot.
But they're also not.
I think the story of The Legend of Zelda is the epitome of narrative doublethink. In order to truly buy in, you must accept the simultaneous facets that none of the games matter to one another and that they all do. They're the same story. They're absolutely not.
The thing about the timeline, to me, by being both codified and nebulous, is what ties this cow tools of a narrative together. It's a puzzle without a box. It's total fucking nonsense, but so is reality. Things won't ever truly make sense, but what if they did. What if we took it from a new angle and... hmm. No. That won't work
Or maybe...
Ultimately, the Zelda Timeline is quite simply a farcical creative writing prompt. A dare. A challenge. To take these pieces not designed to fit together and give them order. Do the writers themselves care? Absolutely not. I do, though. So fuck it.

Me before writing this GOT fic: this will mostly be about Sansa, my main squeeze, my best girl and beloved
Me while writing this GOT fic: so instead of the whole dumb shit that happens to Daenerys in seasons 5 & 6 what if instead she’s presiding over Meereen while it invents democracy so it can vote her out of the city. Along the way Meereen invents journalism and soccer.

I think the writers totally missed out on using Alya and Lila as foils for both being foxes, but using the power of illusion and misdirection in very different ways.
Lila: using emotions and threats to set a trap for LB (and CN, but she’s got that personal grudge)
Tumblr media
Vs. Alya: using her intelligence/cunning to get out of a trap (and get LB out too)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just in general being very different people:
Lila’s entire character is that she’s a liar who will do anything to avoid the truth, while Alya is the investigative reporter who uncovers truth.
Lila as someone who hates and is out to get both Marinette and LB vs. Alya who loves and supports both
I just think they could’ve done a lot more with this, especially since they made both girls a fox character, specifically surrounding the Fox Miraculous (I know Lila never had the real one, but she did pretend to for her akumatization)- that’s not nothing!
But nah, instead Alya just becomes brain dead around Lila, believes all her lies without question (no matter how stupid or nonsensical), and doubts everything her best friend tells her when it comes to said lies. Wasted potential.

OK, look, I guess I have to say this...
The killer's identity in a mystery/thriller/horror needs to mean something.
I think a lot of folks read a couple Agatha Christies and came away with all the wrong lessons. So let me clear this up for you: the mark of a good murder mystery is not that the killer is completely impossible to guess.
The response you are looking for from a reader is "ohhh, of COURSE! now it all makes sense!"
You are NOT looking for "wait, what? who the fuck is this guy?"
Introducing a walk-on role on page 5 and then patting yourself on the back for "foreshadowing" it when he's revealed as the killer is stupid, actually. Not only is that not really playing fair with your reader, it also fails to say anything interesting.
Look: The cozy mysteries where the victim is an asshole and everybody in town could plausibly be the killer because everyone has motive? That entire construct is saying something. It's a form that follows function.
The reason why "everyone in the slasher thought the killer was the weird guy who's in love with the final girl, but actually it was the rich/popular guy" is such a common construct is it is taking an expectation we have in society about who is trustworthy and inverting it.
If your killer is the weird creepy old dude, that delivers a message about your world-view.
If your killer is the rich handsome prep, or the scorned lover, or the trans person, or the quiet religious one, or WHATEVER, that is sending a message whether you intend it to or not. So you'd damned well better pay attention to the message you're sending and be willing to own it, or else change gears and put a different killer in the hot seat.
And, yeah, you absolutely can have the take-away message of your piece be "there is no meaning to this, the killer is not significant in any way" but if that's what you're going for, you have to commit to it and build it up through the narrative, not just tack it on at the end for a surprise shock value twist.
