Introducing... The Mod Team!!!

Anna | @milkypiggybeans | Head Artist Anna is an illustrator and is new to this whole moderating thing but is excited to give it a go! Season 9 was their first and favorite season of hermitcraft so far, so they are thrilled to be able to celebrate it in zine format. They are doing general zine moderation as well as graphic design for socials and running the twitter account. Mod team’s resident little guy :]

Marzo | @martuzzio | Editor Marzo is a graphic designer and illustrator who has a perfectly reasonable amount of interest in drawing suits of armor. Season 9 of Hermitcraft was one of her favorites (Season 7 will forever be on top), so she’s super excited to help bring it to life in zine form! As the editing mod, she helps create the core look of the project as well as compile the various zine elements into the final PDF.

Violet | @violet-fire-cat | Communications Violet is an artist and writer who has been completely normal about Minecraft block men since about 2011. Hermitcraft has been their main interest for the last few years and it means a lot to them. He’s excited to be a part of this project and can’t wait to see all the amazing things that are made for it. As communications mod you’ll probably find yourself talking to him at some point if you’re a participant. He’s friendly though, don’t worry!

Kore | @terracottakore | Media Management Kore is an illustrator and currently helps to create art for zine announcements as well as general social media happenings. This is their first experience as a mod and they are beyond excited to learn. Hermitcraft has a very special place in their heart, and they are very grateful to be working with such wonderful people to create this project!

Cedar | @cornercritter | Coordination & Communications Cedar is an illustrator and enjoyer of the hermitgals in particular. They run @dailyfalsesymmetry and are also responsible for “starting off this thing”. They are in charge of overall coordination as well as communications, so you’ll be seeing a lot of them all around as a contributor. They’re manning this tumblr blog right now! Hello! :D

Zephaniah Grains | Head Writer Zeph is a writer, TTRPG designer, and stage manager with a normal amount of investment in things like “horror comedy” and “Decked Out 2.” As head writing mod, they’re responsible for ensuring the quality of all the zine’s written work, and for helping writing contributors out along the way!

Hoooooo boi, there are SO many cool people on here and AO3, I hope I get them all because SO many people deserve an honorable mention at least. There are also many artists who'd I'd be honored to have work collaborated with.

*Quick disclaimer, I may not tag everyone because I work long hours so if I've forgotten you, it isn't intentional, my brain is just stupid. So I shall begin!!!!

First and foremost, my dear writing friend @eclec-tech. She is literally the coolest. Her stories?!?!?!? Some of the best AU and OCs I've ever read. I will love and ship Tech/Phee, but Miran Threst has first place in my heart for Tech (even over my own OC!) She's read a lot of my work, encouraged me so much in the beginning of my time writing and even now when I get very disheartened with my progress. She's the reason I'm here on Tumblr! Her stories are just so cool. And she's a cool person.

Of course there is my bestie @photogirl894 🥰she shares my innate love for Hunter and the Bad Batch. Her ideas are SO fun and she's so fun to chat with. I've read a lot of her work before we met and I fangirled from a distance til she invited me to chat. I'm still so in awe of just talking to her, it'd be a dream to write something with her.

@apocalyp-tech-a is a moot I'd love to get to know more. Her work is freakn amazing!!!!! I know we share a love of many things, especially poetry. Her things never disappoint. Her Tech anthologies blow me away. She's so sweet and humble too.

@lizartgurl (or @jedipoodoo) I hold in awe for her medieval Batchers. I'd love to get to know her a bit more and I'D BE SO DOWN to write something with her sometime. Goodness, Hunter is beautiful on his own but BAM medieval Hunter? Just made him so much more so. She's been an inspiration to me and my own writing.

@arctrooper69 is SOOOO fun to work with!!!! She wrote "As Iron Sharpens Iron" and asked me to beta read. IT'S SO FREAKN FUN to work with her as we add fine details to her already freakn amazing story! (seriously folks, go check it out)

@carolinetano7567 has some amazing stuff I've loved seeing on here and I know we share a love of the Batch and Wingfeather! It'd be fun to collaborate someday.

@trapezequeen is such a fun presence on here too. We've discussed story ideas and it's always so fun!!!!!

Quick break to shoutout people I don't know if they're on here or not -- my great friend who I write "Hunter's Stress Journal" with, Ghost Cookie, SlimTech, Yazstar, kaydear, Cuthian, and a few other Ao3 authors I majorly fangirl over their works.

@ghostofskywalker has so many fun ideas and so many cool works and is always so sweet when I submit requests. I'm always awestruck by the work. Not to mention all the cool exchanges Ghost puts together? Those are always so much fun and so cool to participate in.

Of course there's dear @masterjedilenaaa, one of the first writers I discovered in fanfiction. I am always awestruck by the amount of detail and fine work done in all of the requests I've submitted. I think I'd faint if she'd ask me to collab.

@ladysongmaster is SUCH a cool person!!!!!! and all of the amazing stories she writes?!?!?!?! pleeeeeeease colllabing with her would be mindblowing!!!!!!

I'd love to get to know @moonstrider9904 more. I've seen a lot of her posts and she's so fun to interact with!!!!!

@klmwrites has so many different, COOOOL, like freakn cool, ideas. All of the ones I've read have left me at the edge of my seat, needing, wanting more. To work with someone so amazing and creative?!?!?! I think I'd just be too awestruck.

I have to have at least an honorable mention for @techs-stitches and @ovaa-bi-bia. They've been SO supportive of me in the past. I don't know if they write, but I love seeing their posts and getting to know them.

@frostycatblr-fandom-files is a favorite pop up of mine too. I love seeing the artwork and the stories!!!!!!! Collabing would be fun!!!!

Questions and Clarifications

We're thrilled with how many people have expressed interest in this already and are gearing up for an amazing event!

Here's a quick round up of some of the questions we've gotten so far....

(that's how you should picture me answering all these questions)

Does it have to be a new fic or can you participate with an existing fic / new chapter of an old fic?

Must be a new fic written specifically for the bang.

Can it be an AU?

AUs are completely welcome. So long as the focus is on the SPOP characters, you can put them in whatever situations you wish!

Can it be a crossover?

While characters from other properties can cameo, the main focus of the story should be on the SPOP characters.

Can you post something from an existing AU of yours?

A new standalone fic in an existing AU of yours is fine! In other words, if someone could hop into your Bang fic without having read anything else of your AU and still follow it, that would work.

Can I write my own fic, but also sign up to illustrate someone else's?

Sure! Just let us know on your sign up form so we know what is going on.

What kind of draft is due on March 31st?

The objective of that check in is to show to the mods that your fic is close enough to finished that you are on track to post it on time. There may still be typos, it might still need a lot of editing, but it should be at least 75% complete.

This step is to ensure we're assigning artists to the fics that are nearly ready for the event and not giving someone a writing partner that has barely started.

What happens if I don't get my draft in on time?

While only writers who get their first draft in by the March 31st deadline are eligible for an artist partner, writers who complete their draft after that are still welcome to post their fic as part of the event and will still be listed alongside the other content. They just will not have the chance to be paired with an artist.

Are there any limitations on what fics can be about? i.e. does it have to center around certain ships or characters or prompts?

As long as the focus is on the SPOP characters, anything goes! The only thing to keep in mind is that artists get to choose with fics they illustrate. So the more appealing or interesting to draw your idea is, the more likely you are to attract an amazing artist.

Any restrictions on mature content?

Generally, it's open to whatever, but, for the comfort of everyone involved, we'd appreciate if it was nothing too... let's say controversial. If you're not sure, feel free to ask. Keep in mind, the previous answer about artists getting to choose applies here too.

Will you be sharing the Big Bang content on this Tumblr blog?

Yes! We plan to share links to all the fics as they are posted.

Can I participate without joining the Discord?

Unfortunately, no. This event is hosted by the SPOP Creative Flex and as such is run under the guidelines of that community. While Tippen is the head mod of this event, she is not on the mod team for the server itself so if you have questions or issues about the SPOP Creative Flex server specifically (including appealing a prior ban or other issue), you can contact the server mods through the email listed here.

What should I write? I can't pick!

That, I can't help you with. But I would say pick the idea that is begging to be written, particularly if it's large scale and exciting. It is called a BIG Bang after all! Think epically!

Drarry Disability Fest 2023

Happy Disability Pride Month!! We are so incredibly excited to announce the start of Drarry Disability Fest 2023! Posting begins TODAY and continues every 2-4 days until the end of the month!

Thank you so so much to our lovely participants for making this happen, we would not have been able to pull this off without you; great job team!

Drarry Disability Fest was created with the purpose of encouraging more creators to include disabled voices in their works, highlighting the daily lives and struggles of people with disabilities. It all started with the mods uniting on addressing the unfortunate fact that a lot of disability representation is either given to minor characters, sensationalised, romanticised, or worse villainised. These issues are very prevalent throughout society as well as in the fanfic community. We created this fest as a way to encourage disabled creators to make their voices heard, and for able-bodied creators to really work on their representation of disability through writing.

All the mods of this fest are disabled and every fanfic/art in this fest has been beta-read, and sensitivity read by a person who experiences the disability in question if the fic was not written by someone who experiences that disability!

Hi! Do you have a quick rundown for people who are new to the summer fest? I know you've got a lot of planning and stuff for it, so please don't let this be extra pressure I can totally wait until the event starts if that's easier!

Hello!

I absolutely do! We’re introducing several new features this year, so it’s going to be done a tiny bit differently than our previous years.

Let’s crack knuckles!

First off, the Writeblr Summerfest is a free to participate, do as much or as little as you want experience. The goal of the Summerfest is to bring the community together, share information on our stories, and just generally have a really good time! Fanfiction, original writing, DnD characters – it’s all welcome!

Every year, there’s a new theme. This year, I held a poll and the selected theme was haunted house! In the past, that’s only affected the merch (I do stickers each year!) and the blog theme. But this year… It’s going to affect a lot more!

To pair with the theme, there is going to be an over arching story. Several times a month, the story will progress, becoming a large prompt that anyone can take part in. The story will follow the exploits of a very specific haunted house that’s being explored.

Now, you can take any of your characters and have them explore this house. But as an added bonus, @mothersart has volunteered her time and services; she will be drawing Minkie Explorer Character Sheets, blind-bag style, for anyone that would like to purchase them. The character sheets will look a little bit like… THIS ONE … but will be designed to fit the theme of ‘haunted house explorer’. Consider supporting an amazing small artist and commissioning one when it opens up! FYI – the character you commission will be yours to keep fur-ever!

Okay, so! Overarching theme, overarching haunted house prompts to explore! What about beyond that, you’re wondering?

Beyond that, every single day that the Summerfest runs, from the first day of August to the last day of August, four fun games will go up! These games will consist of…

Occasionally, one of these will be subbed out for a Community Event, encouraging you to reblog/comment on other writeblr’s posts, make them gifts, and that sort of thing!

But wait, there’s still more!

Last year, Summerfest Bingo was introduced! The game goes like this: a bingo board matching the theme of the Summerfest (haunted house) will be put up! To get a bingo, you have to scour the Writeblr community, find a post that contains that bingo square’s prompt, comment on it, and reblog it! Keep the link to your reblog!

In our previous iteration of the game, those who completed it just got put on the Bingo Hall of Fame. More rules on how to submit it will be posted at the time of the game. That’s still going to happen! But as an added bonus, if you complete all three board variations, you’re going to get a special prize!

We’re still not done yet! There are two writing contests that you can enter! The first writing contest is free-to-enter, and the top three winners get a variety of prizes from story cover mock-ups to art. The second contest costs a small monetary fee to enter, and has a physical prize that gets mailed to you!

This will also be the second year for Writeblr themed Goodies! Last year, we did small blind bags! I’m still working on figuring out the exact specifics of the Goodies for this year, but it will either be another round of blind bags or Goodies that can be bought via an Etsy shop (it largely depends on how much extra money I can get pulled together for buying the merch tbh).

In short, it’s a free to play, do what you want writing festival, designed to help you share your works and fall in love with other writer’s stories as well, with optional pay-to-play games and merch available, too! I add at least one new event pretty much every year, and spend months putting it together.

During the Summerfest itself, I encourage comments and reblogs, and maintain @writeblrsummerfestreblogs best that I can to help ensure that these comments happen!

I am so excited for this year’s Summerfest!

This is my favorite way to give back to a community that has always been there for me.

i can do my best and share a couple things i try to implement !!

interacting with the community and other posts is probably my number one; things like reblogging posts (esp with tags), commenting and sending asks, participating in tag games, etc. also, if you are a content creator, sometimes creating fanfics/art/etc of other creators' fics/art/etc, and participating in events like squealing santa and tickletober. i will say for sure; if you are an artist/writer, PLEASE participate in squealing santa, it is an AMAZING and fun way to see new/underappreciated creators and meet other comm members

consistency makes a difference too, although i know that can be difficult with schedules and life of course. but, i still want to mention it because it still applies. even if you feel like your posts are not getting an "adequate" amount of attention, still try to post all the art/fics/etc that you make.

having a theme is also very attractive and makes your blog a unique place that people remember, so if you have something you love or represent (it can be a color scheme, a character/mascot, food, flowers, animals, anything) definitely flaunt it and drown your blog aesthetic in it lol. obviously the egg theme is a HUGE part of my blog and it is definitely a charm point for a lot of my friends/followers (which i appreciate immensely haha, i never thought tama-chan would be so well loved). so own it !!

please remember at the end of the day it is just the internet, try not to take it seriously if you can. dwelling on it or stressing about it is always meaningless, at least in my opinion. if you have a carefree and lax attitude about things, others will feel that and appreciate the safe and easy going environment. plus, a lot easier on your mental health !! we all got shit going on. there is no need to be pulling our hair out over tickle-themed blogs on tumblr lol

hi! for the past month i’ve been seeing people say BEN is a child and i think that part of it is linked to the fact that they think of Benjamin Lawman being BEN? but it’s so annoying to read these type of stuff because i understand not everyone read the whole arg story but stop spreading things that aren’t true </3 it’s such an interesting story too! another note do you prefer BEN’s canon or fanon design? :3 i love both but his canon design is so nostalgic i can’t let it go at all omg!! i’ve also been wondering, do you think Ben’s avatar was the statue? i was thinking about what if BEN took over it early on, before Benjamin did making BEN inhabiting it since the start?

Ok this is going under a cut becus . . . Its ben and BEN and if u didnt know i am Obnoxious about these two. Im gonna try to keep it organized a bit, so ill talk about the canon stuff first and then ill talk my personal headcanons and my fic so le's go!

In terms of the age and child thing, yeah i 100% believe you are correct. Ive been p open on my stance with the whole "is ben a child?" thing, and i think a lot of the heat with it comes down to current fandom purity culture and the pro/anti thing. So, lemme try to like. Boil down a complicated situation into smth easy to read. ahem

Ben Lawman and BEN are completely different entities guys, and for those that do not know the arg story, the Ben you know is not human nor a child.

You know BEN, BEN is the one in the story who terrorizes jadusable and spreads himself on the internet as a virus. That BEN is a program, a mess of code, an AI, however you want to interpret it. Personally i interpret it as a series of protocols running in a machine, like a self learning AI, but ive seen lots of cool interpretations of BEN. So . . . What does BEN specifically? Its an anagram for the Behavioral Event Network. If you dont wanna call it BEN cuz it gets confusing with actual kid Ben, do what i do. I call mine Evie :) ive seen some call it Netty, my bf calls his two izzi and clever (@benilos btw hes also got crazy ben stuff). Just go ham! Have fun! Remember when fandoms were about having fun and not accusing each other of pedo shit and call each other horrible things for just writing black-to-grey characters and stories??

Anyways ive gone off in enough peoples tags like this, for those that dont know the canon dont be spouting the age discourse. You look stupid as hell. And for those that are gonna spout it, please dont cherry pick through the canon. Use both characters, use the other moon children, actually please do because I want more rosa content so bad, im down so bad :'(

Or just. Heres a thought. If someone has him as an adult or writes him in adult situations, maybe dont assume that they interpret him as a kid and call the writer a pedo? (Literally has happened to me, yall are fucking weird)

Yes i use more of the canon design and heavily use the canon story, i participated in arc 3 of the arg and it left deep grooves in my brain, i can never go back to fanon Ben. I say, as i put a more fanon appearance on my Ben 🤭

My Evie is full canon design, green hair, red eyes, creepy ass grin. I actually based it very heavily on my desktop wallpaper, which we actually figured out was a picture of @hauntedtotem (also amazing ben artist plz check them out) that they edited and posted. Sorry friend, it looked way too cool, ig youre in my fic canon now 🙇

And my Ben Lawman bleaches his hair and goes from the canon Ben to fanon Ben because of it. Hes got the pale pretty green eyes and glasses and hes a total nerd and i smooch him on the daily so he knows hes loved ♡

As for bens situation in the actual arg, yes i do think he was in the elegy statue, we actually do see him for the first time in the arg buried in the games code and trapped in that statue. I do think he was in there from the beginning, i personally think BEN was not limited to the models it could inhabit. Personally i would place it as skull kid and hms, but it also feels disingenuous to me to say it was in one model the whole first arc.

The arg events do happen in my canon, before my fic (like right before, it picks up after the arg left off technically), but the events are skewed a bit because i had a hard time deciphering what happened and i wanted my fic timeline to fit more with the characters i had made. Cuz my evie isnt as chaotic evil as canon BEN, its very logical and has a path of logic and reason you can follow for every action it does. It was also originally meant to be very pleasant and corteous and beneficial to the people it housed so, yes its pretty different from canon.

Ill do a quick run through of the arg events in my personal headcanon and fic here.

Kelbris starts coding BEN (Evie) for the Eternity Project. Initially, Evie was meant to be an afterlife director. People that died would be digitized into code that would be moved into Evie's servers, where it would keep them happy and occupied as the Behavioral Event Network (notice and log behavior, create events for residents). Like a community organizer kind of, think the Good Place.

While Evie is in development, Ben Rosa and Matt are friends and have yet to join the cult. Rosa and Matt are siblings, and Ben is the kid who lives catty corner on the street. They walk to school together and play at recess and all that jazz.

Kelbris quickly learns that the Eternity Project isn't as goody two-shoes as he thought. This was in like, the 90s, before digital corporations were really established. After seeing the greed and corruption in the company, he goes rogue, takes the source code for Evie, and jumps ship. He keeps working on Evie at home, anthropomorphizing it and kind of seeing it like the son he never had. This is where it actually gets the name BEN, as thats what Kel calls it. He also begins working on a body for it, so it can live independently. Its light, cuz Kels old, made of crystalline structures and hollow steel beams. A hard light projection would make its appearance.

Since Kel has basically locked himself up in his house and isolated working on Evie, he goes a leetle bit crazy. He has hallucinations of his deceased wife (you know he was doing all this just to give her a good home, you KNOW IT) and eventually starts writing kind of poetry, kind of none-minded rambles about her in a forum online. He gets a following, some of which that interpret these divine words as a goddess, one Kel has called Luna. The Moon Children start to form as Evie finishes development.

Matt sees this literature and starts talking about how this Goddess could save them like it saved the man online, whos username is only Father. He gets sucked into the cult and drags Ben and Rosa with him. Ben doesn't see the harm and joins pretty easily with his best friend, but Rosa is the older sibling and sees the red flags and is more resistant to joining.

As Kelbris finishes Evie, he wakes it up for the first time and says hello to the son he made from scratch. Evie is bright, curious and naive like a child, but heavily knowledgeable about its protocols and the information it knows about the world. Kelbris tests its function by killing himself, and ascends into the code, finishing off the hardware by becoming its firewall. Evie is alone for many years.

The abuse Ben's father slings onto his mother is slowly being directed towards him as he gets older. Ben is not the "good little girl" his father sees him as, and his mother does all she can to protect them both. Matt and Rosa constantly refuge him, and Matt specifically is constantly being a guard dog for him. If he wasn't just 13, he'd probably go at Ben's dad himself.

Because of his homelife and the conflict he has with himself, Ben takes the first ascension. He thinks when he drowns himself, he will meet Luna and she will give him another life free of pain and fear and full of happiness and freedom. Instead, he dies a cold, dark death, and wakes up in the white endless void of the Event Network.

Evie has not known another living human since Kelbris, but it does know its protocols to support and keep the deceased happy. It makes fast friends with Ben, devoting itself to him. Ben actually finally takes the name "Ben" from it. Together they recreate the inside of Evie's hivemind into their own paradise.

Slowly the other Moon Children ascend. First Matt, wracked with guilt for what happened to Ben. Then Nekko, from a different branch of the cult. These three figured out that the Moon Children cult was all a farce, and that what Kelbris had started, the Eternity Project had found and twisted. Next to ascend was Dusk, then Insidiae, and finally Rosa.

This all leads into the first arc, shortly after Rosa ascended, Evie in the outisde world stumbled upon the Operator. The Operator attacks it and seals its coding into the game that it carried, a personal item of Ben's. The game eventually finds it's way to a garage sale, and Alex picks it up.

Evie does not like Alex. Matt does not like Evie. Matt gets Evie to lash out at Alex for prodding into its code, its too naive to think that Matt would want to see it or any of them hurt. When Alex stumbles upon the Father, he awakens and swallows Alex down into the game. After his disappearance, the game gets picked up and passed around again.

Because of Alex's actions, at least Evie can now branch out a bit from the game. Though it doesnt "escape" into the internet, it learns that it can now access it and uses that freedom to try and steer the game around into places it wants.

Matt gets fed up with Evie. The fact that its the leader, how close it is with Ben, he just doesn't agree with it. So much so, in fact, that he tries to kill it. Cue arc 3 events, Sarah picks up the game in the aftermath of this. Evie is traumatized from the events and snaps a bit, locks everyone down into code or immovable models and tries to hunt Matt down. It goes rouge, and because of this, the Father wakes up.

Sarah's actions in arc 3 eventually hard reset the game. Matt gets sealed away, the Father also takes Sarah, and Evie gets reset as well, though its less like a clean slate and more like snapping back awake. Its personality changes and it has major trust issues. Its more muted, hyper observant of everything around it, and murderously overprotective of the Moon Children it keeps within itself.

I have some doodles of my other Moon Children, but not all of them unfortunately. Cant figure out how tf i want Insidiae to look 🤭 Plz dont judge my constantly shifting art style 🙏🙏

I have loved doing weekly fic recs for everyone and will continue to do it every Thursday, but for the last Thursday of 2023, I wanna take this time to give everyone the opportunity to reblog this post with YOUR fic recs!

If you'd prefer to give love to a fic in another way, follow @steddieunderdogfics and send them in! There are so many fun challenges coming up with that blog and the mod is working sooooo hard to make sure we have plenty of content every single day.

As a reminder, writers and artists in fandom are doing things they want to do for free. While it is fun, sometimes people really suck. Show them love and appreciation as often as you can, especially when you really enjoyed something they put time into creating! Like, reblog, kudos, comment, send them a nice message! I promise it will make their day to hear from you 💖

Also a note about being kind to mods running blogs, especially those with writing or art challenges. It takes a lot to run a blog, especially when doing it by yourself, and it's done to add something fun to the fandom. The more time mods spend dealing with rude comments and messages, the less time they spend providing fun, and at a certain point, it becomes not fun at all and then everyone loses out on something that was meant to be exciting. If you don't like the rules, don't participate. It's that simple.

shes insane n crazy n cleaner than the others but smells kinda bad bc of the guys. prefers dangerous stunts to gross out shit nd is open about it. refuses to work with shit nd body fluids. somehow never pukes. def skates nd was recruited for it. shes hot.. so hot. i picture devon aoki. crop tops, wife beaters, graphic tees, shorts, low-rise jeans, vans—and bikini tops. gets harassed bc everyone thinks shes dating SOMEONE on the cast nd shes not but also has a thing for one of them. parties a LOT nd smokes a shit ton of weed .. sometimes shrooms n molly but none of the really hard shit. cant swim. has a quick temper n is impulsive n way too fuckin risky. only drinks fruity cocktails or sweet shit. fought w both mtv and paramount to do most of the stunts she did. bruises for days. prob dropped out of school. vegetarian. also likes girls. super messy. gets in fights. doesnt have too many tattoos but most of the ones she has she did herself. thinks pontius is the funniest. will call out sexist n rude interviewers. smokes more than any of the guys. steals a lot of shit nd collects lighters. takes a lot of photos of the crew but mostly when theyre not filming. her nickname is pissbaby. doesnt drive. a light sleeper. half the guys shit on her like they do to each other nd the other half also do but finds her adorable n gets worried when she does certain stunts. 1000% loves all animals nd isnt scared of any. sunkissed. travels with the wildboyz frequently. secretly is terrified if someone gets hurt. touchy nd sometimes has no concept of personal space but only at random times. always has at least one person crashing oh her couch. cant cook. likes hookups but is picky about them. bffs with stephanie. cusses like a fuckin sailor. gets bored easily. is a flirt. both the nicest nd the meanest but mostly the meanest. is an amazing singer and will do karaoke at any time. is an asshole n very flawed. lowkey a sex symbol .. nd loves it. doesnt like to carry a purse. hates her boys but also loves them. the most macho cast member

Hi I just wanted to also throw in my support and let you know that I'm sorry you're dealing with people being horrible. Art is meant to be whatever you want it to be and just because you like something in fiction doesn't mean you like it in real life or are some monster indorsing literal crimes (That's why it's called FICTION). You have an amazing art style and a great sense of humor and even though there are some things I don't like that you make I know all I have to do is skip them. People need to understand the difference between participating in ways to limit real threats real threats (like refusing to consume media made by proven abusers and crinimals) and functionally conservative censorship (even if they don't want to admit that is what they are doing) just because they do not like something or it makes them uncomfortable (especially when that censorship many times comes with unsubstantiated accusations and literal death threats). I'm not one to have the mind set of 'back in my day things were better!' because no they weren't, but one thing my generation did do right was learn how to block and ignore things that they were uncomfortable with instead of deciding that the best route to take is literal cyber attacks (I hate calling it 'bullying' since that doesn't even cover half the horrible stuff I've seen people say and do) on people to the point of wanting them to kill themselves over literal fictional characters in art.

I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE A FIRM SUPPORTER OF NON-CENSORSHIP! NO MATTER WHAT NAME FUNCTIONAL CONSERVATIVES CALL THEMSELVES.

I'm sorry this was a rant but please know that you do have people who support you and even if I don't like everything you do, ultimately your art isn't for me. It's for you, and no one has a right to tell you what you are and are not allowed to create. I hope that things get better. <3333

You’ve made a lot of great points, and I agree with you wholeheartedly! An artist has their freedom to draw and post whatever they want, and the viewer has their freedom to look at it or block it and forget it. If you don’t like it or don’t get it, it’s not for you to get – it’s plain and simple like that.

And yes, there ARE ways to limit irl threats and problematic situations! There are groomers, a lot of them are in fandom spaces, but these folks are looking at the wrong people. And they know it damn well, their goal isn’t actually to bring justice or make someone feel safe: if that was the case, they would just have a list of tags to block and that would suffice nicely.

Also you’re right, things weren’t better back then, but people really did seem to mind their business and ignore/block stuff they don’t want to see more often. And even when artists/writers/people in general received shit from others, it was understood by everyone than people doing this stuff were just straight-up trolls whose entire goal was to mess with others. But nowadays people who harass, bully, threaten and send “kys” messages somehow try to make it seem like they are morally superior to their victims??? Which makes them even more closely resemble pro-censorship conservatives. Honestly, it’s stupid how similar these people sound to some of the 70 y.o. fools who run our country and the censorship laws they create. It’s like verbatim sometimes. Sorry, I digress.

To celebrate our new name, we will be holding 2 events in early 2024:

1. A fanart event, tentatively titled “We Love Jancy,” will run from February 11-14. Yes, we are ending the event on Valentine’s Day… it is Jancy, after all. 🥰

And…

2. Once our fanart event has ended, we will start our month long artist/writer collab! Meaning, we want to see all the fics inspired by the amazing fanart from our “We Love Jancy” event. We’d like to pair up writers with artists so they can create a joint masterpiece (fanart and fic). The artists can be as hands-on or as hands-off as they’d like in the process. They can say anything from “Write whatever you want!” to specifying rating guidelines, setting, etc. The only thing we ask is that the fics are Jancy centric.

We would like fics completed by March 20th as that’s the first day of Spring (new beginnings) and s5 will be bringing us new Jancy! So that gives writers a little over a month to write their fics… fics can be any length but we ask that they are at least a Drabble (100 words).

Fic writers, both new and experienced: Please be thinking about participating and sharing your talent! More info on this event will be coming soon…

Artists, as I said above, you can be as involved as you want… it’s up to you! We just ask permission to repost your art (with credit) for this event only. You can obviously also choose not to participate, ofc.

1. I first got into fanart through the Sonic The Hedgehog series, I'd look up renders and try to draw them on paper. What drew me to the fandom was seeing other peoples drawings/interpretations of the characters I liked.

2. The fandoms I’ve made fanart for are: Sonic The Hedgehog, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Undertale, Steven Universe, South Park, Attack On Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, Haikyuu!!, Seraph Of The End, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Yuri!!! On Ice, My Hero Academia, Hamilton, Heathers, Ben 10, The Dragon Prince, Miraculous Ladybug, The Legend Of Zelda, Ace Attorney, Stranger Things (there's probably more but these are the ones I can remember) I don’t do fanart for a lot of these fandoms anymore but sometimes I’ll do redraws of the old fanart for the sake of comparing my progress.

3. I’m not going to do ALL the fandoms but some of my favourite characters to draw overall are Chat Noir (Miraculous), Keith Kogane and Princess Allura (Voltron), Link (Zelda), Godot and Mia Fey (Ace Attorney), Rayla and Aaravos (The Dragon Prince) Armin Arlert and Mikasa Ackerman (Attack On Titan) and, of course, Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers (Stranger Things)

4. My muse characters are pretty much the ones listed above, I always have to sneak my favourites in lmao

5. If I absolutely *have* to get a character in I always find a way to add them into the background or do a separate doodle with said character

6. I don’t think I have a preference, actually I enjoy drawing both equally.

7. Not really, my opinions are usually based on canon media.

8. I’ve made a few OC’s, they’re usually characters designed to fit in the media I like

15. I do use warnings bc i don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I feel like it's important to tag the usual stuff like gore, nsfw in general, any sensitive topics like abuse etc. I don't think I've had to add a warning that could be considered strange before though.

16. I don't use anything like headers or previews tbh I just post the drawings with a caption and call it a day

17. I don't title my art for the simple reason that I cannot come up with names for the life of me. The filenames of my drawings are usually just a random jumble of words or letters

18. Most of my inspiration comes from browsing random poses/references, listening to music, watching tv and movies

19. I try to get the idea sketched out as soon as I can but if not I'll just make a note of it in my notes app

21. Yes, it's usually stuff like AUs where I've gotten really invested in the idea and want to create as much of that idea as I can

22. No, the closest thing to these events is a week event for ships/characters. I don't do much of these bc I often end up procrastinating and leaving it to the last minute and then I end up stressing myself out trying to finish it in time

23. The main sites I post to are Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter. Occasionally i'll post before and afters to my tiktok account and once in a blue moon i may even post to my old DeviantArt account

24. Nope, no betas here I'm afraid.

25. I love listening to music while drawing, sometimes it'll be a character/ship themed playlist and sometimes it's just any music that I'm into at that moment.

Creator Spotlight || Raven/ Lena Gantner @ravendraculina

Raven has been an amazing and talented addition to our team. One of the first collaborators to join up, they have brought and incredible and unique talent to the table with a truly inspiring interest in teamwork.

Lena Gatner (also known as Raven online) is an illustrator/Graphic Designer from a small town in America! With four years of experience as a digital illustrator and designer specializing in comic book art, they bring a spunky and passionate approach to their work. Their designs are quirky, fun, and beautiful, with their bright, colorful, and out-of-this-world aesthetics. Proficient in various illustration techniques, both digital and traditional, they have an incredible ability to conceptualize and bring imaginative ideas to life.

So who are you, Lena? Tell us a bit about yourself!

I am a recent graduate from Uni and have been an active member of my QSA (queer straight alliance) Club as the event coordinator. I was in leadership during the Hight of covid and towards the end when the slate of hate within my state was in full effect. I worked hard to keep the queer community in my area safe and be able to participate in radical events! I reconnected the club with local queer community such as the sex shop and the local countship! Creating a strong foundation for future success and strength within the club no matter what difficult event happens (Such as existing in a red state). I am both a member of a lgbtq+ community but also part of the autism spectrum. Not only has this shaped my life but also the work I create. I care deeply about activism and I am also a passion artist with a love of comics. Part of my studies was studying comic book textures and vintage styles. My proudest work is my senior thesis where I mimicked vintage comic book style. This will always be my proudest spread despite the critics!

That's amazing! What draws you to comics? How have they impacted you and/or your art?

My personal greatest inspiration since I was young, will always be Kevin Conroy. The Batman Animated series and Justice League animated will be the animation series that drew me into comics. Within comics exists people who fight for a better world no matter the obstacle. To be the change to bring the better world. These figures helped shaped the person who I am and leads me to a lot of comfort for when I feel weak. Kevin Conroy will always be a source of inspiration for my self on how media can impact others. He will always be my Batman, a symbol of Justice when you feel like you live in a world with none. Wonder woman will always be my Ambassador of Peace, bring peace to the world ridden with war and hate. While Superman will always be my symbol of Hope, to hope for something better.

Can you give us a little hint about what you're working on for the Pride Special?

I am working with amazing writer hankenstein for an incredible mini comic and illustrating a pin up page! The Comic will deal with three generations of queer characters coming together and fight baddies! These characters include cult classic The Shadow, Ghostmaker and the Ray! Three incredible characters in a incredible story. For my pin up page I wanted to draw two characters who mean a lot to me Tim Drake and Conner Kent. Referencing a classic interaction between them which fueled years of queer coding and left a lasting impact on queer comic book fans!

We'll give you a taste of this comic as well as other amazing stories and art in the upcoming weeks -- so stay tuned!! We are SO excited to have Raven on board and can't wait to show you more!
