Any more hc about petunia and Benji?

I haven’t had the brain space for them as of late BUT here’s a few HC cookies:

Both of them can ride horses

Both of them had home water births!

Benji has a unique skill of looking like he isn’t listening/head empty energy but will then proceed to so thoroughly read a situation with extreme clarity and empathy it constantly throws people - he’s always listening (so think Fakirs habit of studying people and Duck just. Looking like That)

I can’t remember if I stated this already but they’re 3 years apart

Both kids just have. The flattest, biggest fucking feet thanks mom (lovingly)

Benji is dyslexic - both kids have some form of a processing disorder, again, thanks mom (still lovingly)

Petunia really likes having her hair stroked and brushed so Duck does her hair all the time, thus the braid

Benji is more confident than his sister but one could argue it’s more thanks to having Not A Single Thought Behind Those Eyes

Petunia was extremely energetic and rowdy as a toddler, Benji was an “easy baby” by comparison - an example of this is Petunia trying to drink Fakirs quill ink

Both kids are excellent swimmers

Yes - both children have inherited the Spinner ability from their ancestor. It’s for this reason Fakir discouraged them from keeping diaries until he could talk to them about the power behind the written word of their blood. I believe the Spinner power has been slowly watered down over time - but due to Fakirs trauma and the very real possibility of his children changing reality by accident and abusing that w/o realizing, he starts off being incredibly anxious and vigilante around his children. Duck eventually helps ease this anxiety and the conversation about the power happens.

The children don’t know their mom was a fucking water fowl ….. until this convo happens and Benji being Benji blurts out “Is that why you call mom Duck and she quacks if you scare her”

Petunia thinks that’s really fucking weird and thinks her dad is a little bit of a freak, Benji thinks its romantic (he is right)

Speaking of, both kids "quack" when surprised or scared or caught off guard in some way

Petunia grows up to be a children's illustrator (partly because she likes drawing, partly because she somewhat believes drawing an idea instead of writing it will protect her from accidentally activating the Spinner skill) -- Benji becomes an accomplished dancer (Petunia also dances but it’s for fun) and follows in his moms footsteps to teach dance classes

As adults, Petunia mellows out and Benji matures -- Petunia is described as "passionate, thoughtful, quick-witted, with a go-getter attitude and gets along very well with people" -- Benji is described as "kind, patient, perceptive, gentle, and tends to put people at ease"

Made it to chapter 16 today which means Feyre and I have both had our first impressions of Rhysand's Inner Circle and ohhhhhhh boy

Its hard to pinpoint why exactly, but theres something so discomforting about watching them interact. I think the main thing is that for all their "casual-ness", theres still clearly a rigid hierarchy between them and they all seem to 'know their place' so to speak, its not at all like Lucien and Tamlin's relationship in the first book which genuinely felt like a friendship that was unburdened by their status or positions. Like, theres this one moment where Mor and Amren are like kinda bickering with each other i guess, and Feyre remarks that Mor is probably super powerful if she dares talk back against Amren (in an incredibly minor matter Im pretty sure but I already forgor ngl) and because this is the book where Feyre's perspective starts being Objectively Correct all the time, I guess that's true, I guess the only reason someone would dare voice their opinion on something to this friend group is if they were physically more powerful because otherwise you just level a fucking mountain during an argument

Anyway, Im gonna switch topics for a short moment but I promise this diversion is relavant to the point above. So, sometimes when I go into the anti-tags on here looking for criticisms or complaints of the books, I instead find anti-ship posts that are mainly just about trash-talking some ship, mostly ones relating to that whole Elucien/Elriel/Gwynriel shipwar, which I already have thoughts on but I'll save those for later. In any case, one day I stumbled upon this pretty long anti-elriel post about how the gifts Elain gives Azriel on winter solstice arent actually cute and it describes how she gave him like, herbs that help with headaches "because his friends are always giving him headaches" apparently. And then that post went on a whole rant about how insensitive that was of her and that she doesnt actually understand Azriel's dynamic with his close friends, but honestly, judging from this chapter Elain was absolutely spot on

And I usually wouldn't say this because yknow, its only one chapter and we're probably gonna get the nuances of their relationship later, but this is a book written by Sarah J Maas, her characters and their relationships are rarely particularly deep and, more importantly, her writing is incredibly unsubtle. If Azriel was in any way fond of his friends shenaningans I wouldve noticed it, because Feyre wouldve noticed it like 15 times during that whole dinner. But she didnt.

Its especially bad for Cassian and Azriel because it feels like Cassian thinks they have this great rapport but Azriel just genuinely kinda dislikes him. Not to mention that whole fucking mess with Azriel and Mor and Cassian and Mor having sex so she wouldnt get married off or whatever, good god how is every conversation between them not insanely awkward

Even beyond that, idk man, theyre all just so insufferable. I dont understand how Amren, ancient eldritch being trapped in a fae body that she is, can stand to be around them, I wouldve left them 5 centuries ago if I was her. I guess the explanation is that she finds the government position interesting but its like, youre SECOND to the most boring and annoying man on the planet only kinda ruling over a court that you dont even actually care about from everything Ive heard. Again, if I was in Amren's position I would not be hanging out in an APARTMENT in a boring ass city at the behest of a quartett of stupid bozos, I wouldve weaseled my way into being the personal advisor of Beron or some shit so I could watch the Vanserra Family Drama unfold live

There was one good thing about this discomforting dinner though, and that was how inexplicably gay Cassian was for Rhysand. Kuroiro - the dark history ranting is his favorite thing ever. He spends a little bit of his free time looking up some dark history himself so he can maybe tell you about something you haven't learned yet yk.

Kendo - idcidc shes a major history nerd. She loves all things history related so even if its a bit dark shes interested. Shes only interested in history because shes a strong believer of learning from your mistakes and whatnot and she thinks its important to know.

Kodai - shes indifferent about it. She thinks its a little weird but shes not one to judge since everyone has their stranger side ykyk? She just silently listens along to whatever her s/o is ranting about this time lmao

Komori - she finds it a little creepy but at the same time she cant stop listening to her s/o talk about it lmao. (Just dont give her these 'fun facts' late at night or else she might not be able to sleep)

Shiozaki - shes happy to hear you talking about something your interested it but she does worry a bit about those who were affected in the past by something thats just a fun fact now (if that makes sense) like shes interested in the topic but at the same time it makes her a little sad that people actually had to get lobotomys at one point ya know?

Shishida - he seems like the type to be excited to learn something new so every time his s/o tells him about something that happened a long time ago like that hes real happy. (Despite how dark it is)

and i had the idea (this is all stolen from my own twitter thread from *checks* last year? anyway) that they would tease the release of bots like diluc, rosaria and razor through voicelines from kaeya, barbara and lisa. really like the idea of razor originally being some sort of surveillance android for wolvendom/integrating with them in some way for research and sort of became a guide for people who get lost in wolvendom.

im really interested in this developing plotline about draculaura being pressured to be like the model of Good Witchcraft. it works well with her established character and arc of like trying to live up to her fathers reputation and status in the monster world. poor girl never seems to be able to just fucking relax.

skelita! i love that shes trying out witchcraft, and the art-based magic is a fun angle too! i can totally see where this is going tho. drac is super serious about magic because theres all this pressure on her while skelita is just trying it out in a casual way so theyre at odds. its an interesting dilemma because i can def see both sides.

im really happy the writing seems like empathetic to both positions here. skelita deserves to try magic her way on her own terms, but its also totally understandable draculaura would feel protective over witchcraft when any misuse of it is ultimately going to reflect on her since she was the one working to legitimize it. respectability is a double edged sword fr!

things done in fanfic that annoys me: when its basically painted as a copy-paste as jegulus, they're very different ships to me with very different dynamics and i dislike it when they're super similar. ofc they might have some similarities but they are NOT the same!!

I totally remember when everyone was still debating whether the bathroom scene will be present in future seasons after the sea whip plot when season 1 was released in 2021.. but now we got a Walmart version of it 🙃 No hate to Freddy and Amita.. Like I believe they could totally pull the canonical CK scene off if the showrunners cared about a steady paced plot.. So far, the only thing I frankly like about this season is the set designs

Bro I thought I could give up hope and get over it, but when I saw them in their final scene together,,,, how GOOD they were if the writing is plucked straight from the books and allowed some subtlety.... I was sitting there imagining they were on the Ferolind and it was 2 different scenes and dyin from happiness. Freddy Amita you deserved better

what made me super duper extra mad was the pekka confrontation scene included the other crows. like only inej is supposed to be there you really think kaz would say SHIT about his brother in front of everyone????? he literally called jesper jordie in the books and refused to elaborate on it when jesper kept asking. and even inej doesn’t get the full story out of him.

YEAH LOL this season took some truly important scenes for Inej and Kaz and just. Wrote Jesper into her place instead. And also Nina. And Inej is now the one with the LEAST context for his trauma (except for Wylan, who still knows Nothing). This is not who Kaz is this is not what he would have done this is NOT HIM

The way I don’t even care abt getting kaz’s backstory anymore in this season and can’t be convinced to watch it bc the show already butchered literally everything else with his character. Speaking of I don’t think I’ve seen anyone even go into detail or talk abt it much which probably says a lot abt everything else the show is doing lol.

NJKnkjnkj you see, the writers just decided to tell us his entire backstory in shittily-placed flashback during the first half of the season, so waiting for his backstory isn't a thing. There is no buildup. No hints. You find out most of it in ep1. Remember how bad and scary it was in the books? Well here it is really lazily shot and cliched and just seems like not a big deal at all, which is probably why no one is mentioning it

i want one of those dainty style mary janes w the cute straps u know the ones i mean w the little heel. but i dont think i have the wardrobe to style them soo. also rly want those brown doc martens the fairly new ones that came out that were only in black b4 like the platform ish ones. But also want a pair of white sneakers idk.. i need a good walking shoe and the shoes i habe r not that well fitting or good for walking at all ngl. so id like to invest in a good sjoe that will last me a while nd im not rly a sneaker girl but i have been eyeing these new balances.. idk i habe no idea what to wear on my feet anymore. i wear the same shoes every day and theyre fine nd also cute but theyre not very good quality bc i got them on am*zon nd have been wearing every day for a yr+ so cosmetically theyre getting scuffed nd have markings nd stuff so dont look that nice anymore but they still work but also theyre slightly ill fitting idk.. idk if im ever gna find a shoe that is like 100% comfortable maybe i jsut have strange shaped feet. but i have like forever callouses on this particular spot on each of my feet that r from my shoes ig but ive had that for a while so idk if its from this pair of shoes specifically. ive walked long distances in them b4 but my feet cap out after like 5-6 miles cuz then they become super uncomfortable.. i mean i dont do much walking anymore atm but just thinking . eventually id like to have a good fitting shoe that lasts me a while. idk what tho
