For the third day of ReiJean Week, I'd like to offer you some headcanons/a fic idea I really hope to write one day. I usually avoid posting my shippy headcanons in the regular Jean & Reiner tags, but since we're having the event, I'll allow myself to do that. :3

The prompt I chose for this day is crossover:

AOT/the Hunger Games

warnings: nothing is discussed in graphic detail (yet), but... a little bit of everything, I guess? This is what you get when you try to combine those two franchises.

If you read my fics, it probably comes to you as no surprise that "The Hunger Games" books are a big inspiration to me whenever I'm writing for ReiJean. Putting Reiner and Jean in that specific universe is something I was looking forward to for some time now, and I even discussed this idea with @lexio11 (<3) at some point, but let's dive into this concept together:

Jean can of course be described as Peeta Mellark of the AOT universe because of his good heart and the wish to remain himself no matter what tragedies befall him. Jean knows that if to defeat the monsters you have to become one, it can no longer be considered a victory for humanity. He could also be considered Peeta of the AOT universe because of his relationship with Mikasa (who we can obviously compare to Katniss), and because of the contrast between him and his romantic rival. While Eren, just like Gale, symbolizes destruction, violence and death, Jean and Peeta symbolize second chances, forgiveness and life. We won't be diving into those parallels and love triangles because that's not what my fanfic would be about (obviously), but I wanted to get those similarities out of the way first.

Now, the main and very delicious difference between Peeta and Jean is that Peeta is almost always soft, kind and loving whereas Jean... Well. That's where this lovely lady comes into the picture:

I swear to god, whenever we talk about fem!Jean (@nine0505 <3), I have Johanna Mason in front of my eyes. She is fem!Jean to me, alright? I'll die on this hill. Anyway, Jean is obviously soft and caring at heart, but he also has a (charming) layer of bitchiness and saltiness to him — one everyone has to get through before they can see the real Jean.

So, yes, Jean is a perfect Peeta/Johanna hybrid in my head.

I wanted the fic to focus on the aftermath of the Hunger Games — Jean, a scrawny, bitter teen from District 7 (lumber), emerges victorious to everyone's surprise. Despite being fast and flexible, he doesn't manage to win anyone's sympathy or attract any sponsors before the Games begin (because of his extremely poor attitude and crude language, duh). He is also no match for the powerful and trained opponents from the richest Districts. So, how does he win? Well, by pure accident.

A sudden downpour causes one of the traps to malfunction and electrocute the Tributes three days into the Games. No one but Jean and one younger boy survive. That boy is Falco Grice — the only person Jean actually kills himself in a fit of rage and panic. Once he comes to his senses and realizes what he has done, he almost loses his mind and needs to be heavily sedated which in turns causes him to become addicted to certain substances that shouldn't really be used outside of hospitals.

As many Victors before him, Jean is forced to move to the Capitol where he is to become a plaything of the rich and the depraved. However, once he gets there, Jean discovers that... no one really cares about him. In the Capitol he's considered lame. Some people even call him a "Fake Victor" given the circumstances of his opponents' demise. Just because he managed to kill a child doesn't mean he's cool. So, Jean is ignored and made fun of. Even the other Victors look down on him because, let's face it, he's really nothing compared to them (the Ackermans, Jaegers, Leonheart, Hoover, Braun...)

Now, Reiner Braun.

I won't be diving into Gloss or Cato's personalities because that's not the point. It was just recently decided that the actor portraying Gloss might be Reiner incarnated (@marleysfinest @oxygenbefore1775 come here), and I really want to explore the idea of Reiner being one of the most cruel and ruthless victors in the history of the Hunger Games. A glorified killing machine and a voluntary Tribute hailing from District 2 who gained his popularity a few years earlier for having killed all of his opponents within two days (Jean's childhood friend, Marco, included).

When Jean is thrust into the world of the Victors, he feels extremely out of place and consumes any illegal substances he can get his hands on. He can't cope with the fact that he killed Falco, a child, just like he can't forget the horrible things he witnessed in the arena. He's even more snappy and mean than usual, but he's also one or two pills away from killing himself. And he would probably die in a puddle of his own vomit, but Reiner decides to take him under his wing — which he does quite brutally, threatening Jean and scaring him into obedience. He doesn't fuck around in the least. It takes them a moment, but when Jean finally gets ahold of himself, Reiner suddenly becomes gentle with him.

It turns out Braun is not the mindless brute and devil incarnate everyone has him for. Despite his behavior in the arena, Reiner is no less haunted than Jean. He had been turned into a monster both by society and his own mother, but he has since come to regret everything he did. And he recognizes Jean's pain, he recognizes that Jean is not as rotten as most people around them. So, he wants to stop Jean from destroying himself.

Braun himself has fallen victim to the Capitol and its inner games, and he's being abused in a similar way to Finnick Odair. However, given the gravity of Reiner's sins, he has become almost completely indifferent to what is happening to him. Once Jean overcomes his hostility and distrust towards Reiner, and gets to know him better, he starts to care for him (probably more than he should). Either way, Reiner and Jean become each other's safe space.

Jean of course can't make peace with what is happening to Reiner and eventually tries to persuade him to run away. This results in a quarrel, and Reiner goes ballistic on him. He categorically refuses to betray the Capitol, but in fact he's simply afraid he won't be able to protect Jean in the wilderness. Thus, Reiner is set on staying in the Capitol no matter what happens to him. That is until one of the local officials sets his sights on Jean...

It was unfinished, but it was about Luffy and Zoro being the only Straw hats to survive the timeskip and reuniting! It had BAMF!Luffy and a scene where they were captured and trapped in a cave or marine base. Do you still have this fic or know it? TY!

hello!! i was kokune so that part is correct, but unfortunately if that was one of my fics it has long-since been deleted.

it certainly sounds exactly like something i would have written back in 2011-2015 (the sadstuck era), although it likely would not have been “romantic” zolu/luzo—probably just desperate codependency and lots of violence and oh captain, my captain. if this was a hugely spicy/traditionally shippy fic it probably wasn’t me, as i didn’t write “romance” back then as a general rule—but if it was more plot/angst heavy then there is a huge possibility this was me. in some of the old a/ns i still have access to i talked about working on a longer fic... i wonder if this was it? it’s vaguely familiar, and it’s also literally the exact kind of thing i would have written and later deleted—unfinished, whump, probably OOC esp if it was my kinda BAMF! from that era, etc.

i’ve looked on an old external hard drive from around 2016 but no luck, so the only other option would be checking physical fic notes from before that time period (since i’m thinking this would have been smth 10+ years old). that being said—it is unlikely those would have the fic itself, if i even have them. i also poked around ffnet to see if there was anything else similar in case this wasn’t one of mine, but i didn’t find much—which is disheartening. my usernames across lj, dA, and ffnet also weren’t super consistent, so it might not be connected to kokune at all—or it could be someone else entirely. altho if it wasn’t me, the original author may have deleted it regardless.

im sorry i don’t have a good answer for you. it means so, so much to me that you would remember something from so long ago if this was me! and if it wasn’t, i’m sure the original author would feel the same. that’s mindblowing, especially considering how old that fic would have been. the best i can do is gesture vaguely toward some newer zolu recommendations from other writers and hope you find something there to enjoy. apologies!!

How do you think j0nry@ stans got the idea that j0nry@ would end up canon? I cant seem to rap my head around the concept because at least jonrice has some “stuff” to point to their ship but j0nry@ has very little stuff that makes any sense besides the theories from self insert ar/ya stans

I’ll tell you about what I’ve seen, but I think you’ll regret asking 😂

For starters, they have the original outline. I know we all laugh because the story has changed so much, but I actually have some sympathy for this because I think the fact that Martin apparently always intended for Bran to end up king is really interesting. Obviously the context/meaning of it changed, but I’m not sure why fans act like the details being different means there isn’t anything to be gleaned from the outline. Also, I do think it matters that Martin liked the idea of a Jon x Stark girl romance because a) it means everyone arguing he’d never consider Jon/“sister” pairing can be ignored. The idea was very much in his head at one point! b) it means he thought fauxcest was commercially viable. Anyway, at one point he did say Jon would have a romance with Arya.

From the most reasonable to the most disturbing reason…swords are common phallic imagery. Can I stop there? No? Jon gives Arya a sword in AGOT. Jonry@s have metas about how that means they will eventually have sex.

Actually, maybe this is more disturbing. The argument that they will fall in love is supported with quotes about their existing love, as in, they think their sibling bond is foreshadowing for romantic love. That’s why they harp on how rarely Jon and Sansa think of each other and talk about how Jon doesn’t love Sansa—because the absence of the sibling love (in their minds) sinks romantic Jonsa which is funny because that’s what a lot of us look at and think is what would make it possible. Anyway, that means that a common thing to do is to think of this moment--

Arya ran to him for a last hug. "Put down the sword first," Jon warned her, laughing. She set it aside almost shyly and showered him with kisses. (AGOT, Jon II)

--as a shipping moment. They use it in their metas/shippy fanart.

The other thing I’ve seen them point to are the comparisons of Ygritte to Arya:

Ygritte watched and said nothing. She was older than he'd thought at first, Jon realized; maybe as old as twenty, but short for her age, bandy-legged, with a round face, small hands, and a pug nose. Her shaggy mop of red hair stuck out in all directions. She looked plump as she crouched there, but most of that was layers of fur and wool and leather. Underneath all that she could be as skinny as Arya. (ACOK, Jon VI)

and

Ygritte trotted beside Jon as he slowed his garron to a walk. She claimed to be three years older than him, though she stood half a foot shorter; however old she might be, the girl was a tough little thing. Stonesnake had called her a "spearwife" when they'd captured her in the Skirling Pass. She wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same. She reminded him a little of his sister Arya, though Arya was younger and probably skinnier. It was hard to tell how plump or thin Ygritte might be, with all the furs and skins she wore. Look, you asked, and I did warn you. They take those passages and say, (I’ve seen this multiple times by different Jonry@s), “Why are you thinking about Arya naked, Jon?” You brought this on yourself anon. You have to live with that.

So, to them there is the author’s intent in the original outline followed by a promise in the first book of the two later having a romantic relationship, the “erotic subtext” continued with the comparisons to Ygritte which all culminates with this:

Jon flexed the fingers of his sword hand. The Night's Watch takes no part. He closed his fist and opened it again. What you propose is nothing less than treason. He thought of Robb, with snowflakes melting in his hair. Kill the boy and let the man be born. He thought of Bran, clambering up a tower wall, agile as a monkey. Of Rickon's breathless laughter. Of Sansa, brushing out Lady's coat and singing to herself. You know nothing, Jon Snow. He thought of Arya, her hair as tangled as a bird's nest. I made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six whores who came with him to Winterfell … I want my bride back … I want my bride back … I want my bride back …(ADWD, Jon XIII)

To them, Jon is talking about Arya being his bride. A lot of these fans think Arya will be QitN, so it’s possible they have a theory about Jon marrying her to unite his claim with a Stark post parentage reveal, just as Jonsas argue? I really don’t know because they tend to hate Sansa so I’ve blocked a lot of them. But, that's the proof/argument I saw before I filtered the tag.

I'm not sure if (m)any of these answers will be interesting at all, because apparently I have a bad memory for ships apart from the ones I made fanart of myself, and I haven't read a lot of fanfic for a long long time.. But I've attempted answering these questions anyway!

What ship were you completely obsessed with as a teenager, but now you don’t care about anymore?

I didn't ship much as a teen. I liked the Marauders gang from HP a lot as a kid, tho, likely even in a shippy way. Obviously HP has left a really bad taste my mouth.

Which ship would you consider your first one?

It was probably a HP one, I was properly obsessed with Sirius, James and Remus for a long time, but like I said, I have a hard time telling when I started consciously shipping characters.

Your first fanfic was about which couple?

Hinata and Naruto and it was baaad. I guess it was maaaybe kind of cute, but it was not good.

Do you remember the first couple you saw fan art of?

Not at all. The most likely options are anyone from HP, Death Note, or InuYasha, but it hasn't stuck with me.

Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?

Nah, the closest I've gotten was the time I got put on a blacklist (or two?) for a shipping Yamato and Sai. I didn't care and so didn't address it, until someone sent me a (kind) message about it. I then explained my feelings about the problematic aspect and the (few) responses I got were 100% positive.

Did you used to have a NOTP or have one currently?

There are plenty of ships I don't particularly like, but I wouldn't call them NOTP's. Except maybe the very very popular ones. I only take real issue with ships that become canon, like a fair few Naruto pairs..

Who were the last couple in the last fanfic you read?

Reading has been hard the last couple of years, so I haven't done much of it.. But it has to have been a Dreamling fic - I'm so excited you've been writing again, TJ 💖

Currently, do you have any OTPs?

MatsuMasa, although they're not my otp in the literal sense. I like them both with Yaichi, and Matsu (non-romantically) with Ume - and the fun thing is that it works all at the same time 😎

Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting into?

Hmm well I'm kinda mad at not being as into Dreamling as you are, TJ. I like Sandman and Dreamling! Very much looking forward to the second season and I enjoy the things you blog about, but it's never been more than a general appreciation. And that's fine, ofc, but it's always been such a joy to be excited by the same things as you haha

Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they’re kind of interesting?

Maybe KakaGai? Only I didn't dislike it, just didn't consider it. And I don't think it's kind of interesting, I deeply love it.

Do you have any ship that, in the past, would have been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

I already mentioned YamaSai, but there's also ShisuItachi. Some people say that the latter is incest. It's been too long and I don't remember their specific relationship, but afaik they're not (direct) family, just from the same clan. Can't get too bothered about family trees in fiction.

Kikyo and Kagome from InuYasha is by some considered gross as well, comparable to incest, because Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation?

Idk, is FjorClay problematic, because Caduceus is canonically aroace? I feel like it's not a super popular ship anyways, but I still like them a lot. In a queer platonic way.

What is your favourite crack ship?

I don't think I have one. Although I wonder if JonGerry from the Magnus Archives could be considered crack ship? They aren't from different fandoms, but they only met once after Gerry had already died. And then at Gerry's request, Jon sort of killed him again. It doesn't really count as a crack ship, but this is my answer anyway

What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?

Hm, I don't know! The last time I really obsessively read them was in my Naruto era.. So who knows - KakaGai is a very plausible answer.

What do most of your ships have in common?

I guess I most commonly like pairings with a Gentle Giant™ (preferably kind of dumb) and someone grumpy and/or cynical and smart and/or skilful. MatsuMasa, BeauYasha and ShikaChou come to mind.

What do you absolutely hate in a ship?

Hard to explain. Wrong vibes lol. Look I can appreciate love-hate or even hate-hate relationships as much as the next shipper, but there needs to be at least some level of respect/consent/two-way-street? I still dislike SasuSaku, because they very much have none of that from what I remember. They've always been close to a NOTP and then they became canon so..

The Virus Made Me Do This

I had a little prompt idea with my lovely @tristansarchive where I do his current fav ship and he writes my own (still looking forward to it babe). I had a lot of fun! I love Jerome with all my heart and I think I could do him better actually, but idk how to now. Next time :3

It's an au where someone makes a soulmate tracker, deadly virus and uses it to kill all baddies in Gotham. I'm pretty sure everything is explained well in the fic!

TW: a little, a tiny bit incestous ig. The characters are twins. It can be read whatever considering soulmates doesn't have to be romantic, but it's written with all the shippy intentions.

The urge to open the door was so heavy Jeremiah couldn’t stop shaking. Or was it really that? He could be just afraid. Yeah. Definitely it was fear and anticipation. Fear of what, though? Meeting Jerome after all those years? Facing the brother he selfishly threw under the hypothetical bus and left alone to bleed out under the care of their mother? The fear of seeing Jerome dying?

Maybe all at once?

Jeremiah shook his head. No. All he was scared of was Jerome. His brother and whatever was hidden behind this door. Jerome was a sick maniac and if Jeremiah allowed himself to think anything else, he would crumble himself, probably lose his mind and end up sharing the room with his twin. And Arkham wasn’t really Jeremiah’s style.

It wasn't Jeremiah's fault that the new Gotham virus had a DNA sort of targeting, and he shared his DNA with Jerome. Jerome, who was one of the biggest threats to Gotham. Jerome, who murdered so much people. Of course his brother would have crazy enemies. And of course the vigilante who made killing all baddies in the city their lifetime goal would target Jerome as well.

Suddenly, Jeremiah felt a pang in the area where his heart was. A painful ache. He grasped his chest, curling a little. There was immediately a hand on his back, Ecco trying to comfort him.

"Are you okay?" she asked, rubbing comforting circles into his shoulder blade. The ache began lessening enough for Jeremiah to straighten slowly and look at her.

"It's just a little pain. I'll be fine."

The worried look the woman sent him didn't help Jeremiah's own worries. The virus was deadly. There was no cure and the GCPD was trying to sweep the case under the rug because the virus targeted only criminals. And Jeremiah. Jeremiah and his damned, cursed DNA.

"You sure you wanna do this?" Ecco looked at him in that soft way she always did when Jerome came out between them. She knew a lot about both of the twins, thanks to Jeremiah. He had no secrets to hide from her, after all. She knew everything.

"I'll be fine." Jeremiah fixed his glasses nervously. "I have no choice. You heard the doctor. I have to be with him."

The virus was bizarre, but honestly, everything in Gotham was. It targeted people based on their DNA, so obvious someone had to be behind it all. It killed within a few days since the first symptom showed up - a heartache like pain. But it was getting weirder from there.

The virus worked as some sort of magical matchmaking as well. Besides the obvious deadly purpose, for some reason, it also pushed people to go find their soulmates. There weren't a lot of cases just yet but everyone, Jeremiah included, felt an urge to be very close to some people. Then the symptoms lessened and the time the patient had stretched to a week or so. It was still deadly, it just took more time to finish the victim.

Jeremiah still refuses to believe that. There had to be some sort of more logical explanation as to why he wanted to spend every single second of the rest of his life with his bonkers twin. Jerome wasn't his soulmate. He was the worst curse Jeremiah could be graced with.

"I'll go with you," Ecco finally sighed and reached for the door handle. Jeremiah grabbed her hand.

"No. No need. Just stay here. He's tied to the bed, he won't hurt me."

After a moment of contemplating that Ecco finally nodded and stepped aside.

Jeremiah swallowed, fixed his glasses again, bit his lip and finally opened the door.

The gap was small enough for Jeremiah to squeeze through. He closed the door softly behind himself, gathering all his nerves, looked up from the floor and met a pair of green, wide eyes.

Saying that Jerome was tied to the bed was understatement. He was basically the one with the bed, there were so many belts around his body. That brought some relief to Jeremiah. But then Jerome smiled.

Jeremiah knew about the scars, but didn't think they would look this macabre. Jerome had a permanent smile on his face, that looked even creepier when he smiled himself. Showing all of his teeth to Jeremiah.

"That's a shocker." Jerome let go a giggle and licked his dry lips. "And I thought I would have to blow up half of the city to get you out of your hole!" He laughed the same, weird way Jeremiah could remember from their childhood. The sound used to make him smile too, but now he only shivered.

Jeremiah noticed he's clinging to the door with his back. He slowly straightened, fixing his clothes, still shaking like a leaf. Jerome was watching him closely.

"Who would think all it took for us to meet again was a little cold. And look! We can be one again! Bonnie and Clyde! Jules and Vincent! Kill and Bill!"

The laughter filled the room again. Jeremiah opened his mouth, not sure what he wanted to say. It wasn't just a cold. They were never "one". Jerome you're delusional.

But Jerome was faster. He shut his mouth, looked at Jeremiah again and his eyes widened. He gasped.

"No! You got it too! You can feel it too! Of course you got it, I heard the whispers, it's related to DNA!"

The pure, glowing glee on Jerome's face made Jeremiah want to punch him. He didn't move from under the door, though. That, of course, gave Jerome a free space to continue.

“Hey, hey, did ya know? Some birdies sing that this shitty virus is a destiny tracker! It makes people want to die in the arms of their loved ones, or some bullshit like that. Isn’t it hilarious?”

“And cruel.”

Jeremiah barely opened his lips, barely even whispered, yet the words seemed to jump around the room like an echo. Jerome quieted down, watching Jeremiah with high lifted eyebrows. There was a smile, dancing on his chapped lips, but a different one than from a moment ago. Not a crazy, manic grin. A soft, amused smile. And it was even worse than before.

“Cruelty can be fun too.” If Jerome wasn’t tied to the bed he would shrug, with that infuriating smile still visible on his face. “Don’t you agree? Don’t tell me you’re not even a little amused right now, being oh so cruel to me.”

“I-I’m not-” Jeremiah’s words jumped a little, he stuttered pathetically and so shut his mouth down. He wasn’t amused. And it wasn’t him that was cruel right now, for sure.

“Oh please. You vanish for years and then show up out of nowhere, without even giving me a little kiss? That’s not how brothers should greet each other!”

It totally is - Jeremiah thought bitterly, and then marveled at Jerome’s expression once again. Give it to his unstable twin to throw something like that right in Jeremiah’s face, with the softest, gentlest expression ever made by a human being.

Then, suddenly, the expression was broken. Jerome grimaced, even whined a little, curling as much as he could on the bed. Jeremiah recalled his own pains, mainly his heartache, and without thinking jumped towards his brother. He grabbed Jerome’s shoulder, trying to will the other’s pain away. And, right then, when Jeremiah was ready to take his pain and bear it on his own, Jerome grinned.

“Oh, so you do care.”

In a second Jeremiah blushed, all the way from his forehead to his barely visible collar bones.

He stepped back, angrily taking his hands away from his twin. Jerome followed his movement with sparkly eyes, with that sunny smile stretched across his face. Jeremiah had to remind himself that they were both under the influence of the virus. And that it was Jerome he was dealing with.

The things he wanted to do, Jerome had to feel twice as hard. He was always the more intense of the two of them. 

“Can’t you be serious for once?!” Jeremiah stomped his leg, tightening his fists in frustration. Jerome giggled at the showoff.

“Why would I?”

“We may die!”

“So?”

Jerome’s question was so out of nowhere Jeremiah had to pause and get confused for a moment. He didn’t understand why his brother wasn’t at least a little concerned. He was crazy - that’s for sure - but did he also want them to die in agony?

Suddenly, Jeremiah gasped and clutched his chest again. He curled a little, feeling the jolt of pain across his chest, his heart. At the same time Jerome swore and gasped. It made Jeremiah look up, search for his twin, suffering as well right now. Their eyes met. Identical, green eyes. It didn’t matter that Jerome was covered with scars now. Jeremiah didn’t even find his look scary or grotesque now.

“Maybe it would be nicer if we hugged?”

Jerome was rasping but still sounded unusually soft. He had to notice it, because he grimaced slightly and wiggled his eyebrows, to add to his words a little, nasty context. Jeremiah wasn’t fooled though. He still didn’t come closer again, keeping his hand over his chest.

“I’m… not really allowed to do that.”

“Oh now you’re following rules?”

Well, he was right. And it wasn’t like anyone was there to witness his embarrassment. He still frowned at Jerome.

“You won’t try to run?” Maybe Jerome was tied to the bed, but Jeremiah knew him. His twin knew how to escape every situation.

“Please, I can barely stand right now. You probably do too, huh?”

He was right. The virus came with a general weakness of the body. And pains. Mostly joint pains but also muscle pains that were a living hell if Jeremiah moved too much. Honestly, he would kill for a nap right now. And, could be the virus or not, Jerome’s chest looked like a nice bed. For the first time since entering the room Jeremiah allowed himself to look Jerome over. He had to exercise. A lot.

Trying to hide the comeback of his blush Jeremiah crouched and began untying his shoes. He didn’t see how Jerome’s amused eyes glimmered with excitement. He knew they did, though. Of course. Jerome didn’t change even a tiny bit since they were kids, maybe minus losing the final screw. 

“This is only for a moment,” stated Jeremiah, rather trying to convince himself than point it out to Jerome. “I have to go home soon,” he lied. After all, the doctor told him that to keep them both from dying too early he had to stay in close proximity to his brother.

“Sure, broski.”

Jeremiah straightened and glared at his twin. Jerome was smiling cutely at him, obviously knowing he was being annoying and doing it on purpose.

“It’s only because of the virus.” Jeremiah lifted his chin a little, feeling a tiny wave of confidence. “Once it’s over I will vanish again and we will never see each other ever again.”

A look slipped through Jerome’s scarred face. For a moment Jeremiah let himself enjoy the hurt expression - oh so rare - that his twin allowed to slip. But then he felt guilt that always showed up when Jerome was as much as mentioned. He immediately lowered his head, suddenly unable to look into Jerome’s eyes again.

Jerome, of course, noticed.

“Then I hope we’re gonna die,” he rasped, cheerfully, making Jeremiah shiver.

Oh, he meant that.

Without adding anything more, worrying that he will back off if he procrastinated even a moment longer, Jeremiah slipped his shoes off. He grabbed an itchy blanket from a nearby chair - Arkham’s rooms were unbelievably cold, especially in the medical wing - and began climbing onto Jerome. As if they were kids again. As if no time ever passed.

But he paused. Right after putting his hand by Jerome’s side. Jeremiah blushed again, fixing his eyes on his hand. If he looked at Jerome right now he was sure he would just run out of the room. He could feel Jerome’s eyes on him, expectant but amused. It was so easy to imagine the look on his face for Jeremiah. And even easier to imagine Jerome’s laughter if he got up and ran. And then the guilt that would for sure come next.

So, Jeremiah gritted his teeth and slowly slipped into the bed, onto the hard mattress and Jerome’s chest.

It required a little wiggling. Jerome was tied, so he couldn’t move. Jeremiah had to find a position comfortable enough for him and his twin. His hand painfully landed on Jerome’s stomach, which Jeremiah quickly, and silently, apologized for, then he got stuck on all four, trapping Jerome under his body, making him giggle uncontrollably. It was a disaster, and for a very hot, embarrassed moment Jeremiah thought about chickening out again.

When he was about to shake his head and move away, Jerome lifted himself a little. It was too late when Jeremiah noticed that the belt on his stomach was tied too loose. Jerome’s tight hit Jeremiah’s, Jeremiah yelped, slipped on the mattress and fell onto Jerome’s body, hitting his face right onto his twin’s chest.

Jerome, of course, erupted in a loud laughter. Jeremiah fixed his glasses, glaring at his twin angrily. Without a word, deciding that it couldn’t get worse, he covered both of them with the blanket and hid his face in Jerome’s Akrham uniform.

“Arent’cha glad I got some friends around this place? They left a few holes here and there a bit loose, y’know?” Jerome kept laughing. Then choked, coughed and giggled again. “Maybe friends is too big of a word. Pawns? Sidekicks? Toys? What do ya think?”

“I think you’re sick,” Jeremiah murmured into Jerome’s chest, not sure if the words were aimed at his brother or at himself. Then he inhaled Jerome’s scent and realized it didn’t matter, because he wasn’t going anywhere soon.

“Duh! You too. We got a virus, don't you remember? Did my cute lil bro get dumber with age?”

“Probably.” Jeremiah closed his eyes. That nap was so close now. Sounded so nice. But then Jerome decided to start wiggling, waking Jeremiah up again. “What are you doing?”

“My back is itching as all hell.”

Jeremiah rolled his eyes. Before relieving his twin, he took off his glasses and put them on a nearby table. He came back to his position, wrapped arms around Jerome and scratched his back a little.

“How’s that?”

“Perfect.”

He didn’t even try to point Jeremiah towards the itching spot. Only after a moment Jeremiah noticed what Jerome made him do. Hug him. The virus was affecting them both after all.

Jeremiah was drifting off again, snuggled to Jerome, when he heard his brother open his damned mouth again.

“Would be pre-tty awkward if I got a boner now huh.”

Deciding to ignore that Jeremiah let the sleep overtake him.

Hello! I'm alright, hope you are doing well as well!

TBH aside from Namine x Xion I don't really ship any of the KH kids with any seriousness, partly due to being older and partly due to past interactions with the KH fandom. My Ace!Powers(TM) allow me to look at any shippy art and go "Aww, they're such good friends" lol.

That being said, I've been pro-"Kairi and Roxas interacting more" ever since they first interacted in the KH2 prologue. I feel that Kairi always considered Roxas to be a separate person from Sora despite being his Nobody judging by the way that she talked about Namine early on in KH3. So I think their dynamic (platonic or romantic) wouldn't have that Sora-related baggage from the beginning (which is great for Roxas' self-esteem).

Past that, they've also got a lot in common trauma-wise (being used by malicious forces to hurt and/or manipulate someone who cares about them, having their agency taken away from them "for their own good", and probably way more than I can't think of ATM) that gives them enough to understand each other despite their different personalities. I feel like Kairi would relate more to Roxas' experiences than Sora or Riku post-KH1, which makes for an interesting dynamic for the two of them interacting (platonic or romantic) post-KH3.

TL;DR - IDK I just think they're neat and they both should get to be closer with people outside of their canon-assigned friend groups?

⚠️⚠️SDR2 SPOILERS⚠️⚠️

How I would have done a blackened Sonia

All right, so, I never thought Sonia was going to survive till the end of the game. She seemed suspicious to me in every trial and I felt she always had possible ways of killing the victim that were less far fetched then some of the actual killers.

She also seemed easy to kill, she is a princess with 0 real world experience so fooling her into being in dangerous situations would be easy. Being a foreigner as well, means you could get away with some bullshit saying it was just cultural difference.

I know Kazuichi is the easy route, but I think it would be interesting if she killed him.

I'm thinking specially about chapter 4, where she would have been the killer instead of Gundham. In part because when I played I thought that Gundham is was dumb to make an elaborate kill like Nekomaru's. However, I would make Gundham the most suspect person in this one case.

Since he and Sonia spent a long time together that chapter for the first time, it makes a quick correlation between him, her and Kazuichi.

The circumstances of Kazuichi's death would be:

-He is found dead stabbed on the chest, laying in his own bed;

-He is found with strange blood splatters in his suit. His arm is close to his body, but the blood splatters in his sleeve and chest form a big and unusual angle.

-his knees are pointing to the wall, close to the end of the bed, but the knife is in his chest, so if the person was sat in the bed they would have had to reach around him to kill him, or he really was stabbed while laying on his back.

In my version, I'd add more scenes to the chapter: one of some of the students playing with Gundham's hamsters, probably Hajime, someone from strawberry house and Kazuichi himself, adding a new clue:

-He has white, grey and brown fur on his hand/sleeve.

The other scene would be very minor, Kazuichi would go explore the Straeberry house together (as usual the victim spends more time with the protagonist before their death). Kazuichi and Hajime have a very awkward time since Kazuichi is clearly so suspicious of Hinata since the last trial. They never solve this weird tension and it keeps bugging Hinata after the trial because he knows Kazuichi wanted to believe him because of the talk they had during exploring the house.

During the exploration of the strawberry house/grape house there is a throw away line mentioning that Kazuichi paints his nails very poorly. Which leads me to the new clue about the body:

-Kazuichi's nails are perfectly painted black.

Someone beside's Nagito still has used the final room and someone notes that one of Kazuichi's tools is missing from his toolbox, that Kazuichi has mentioned to Hajime that he is proud to still complete (he is clumsy, he loses stuff sometimes). The elevator is broken in the grape house.

Now to the trial:

Sonia is one of the very first accused, but is quickly considered innocent since she wasnt part of the playing with the 4 devas of destruction scene. She even assumes she isnt as sad as she would be for his death like he was from previous victims, but that is shrugged off since he did bother her a lot and she was never seen being mean to him.

As I said, Gundham is suspect n°1. The fur in Kazuichi's hand/ sleeve is the collor of the 4 devas of destruction, though the other person in the scene and Hajime are also framed and considered suspects (mainly Hajme, since he also searched the houses with Kazuichi).

Out of the ones left, who else wears black nail polish? Gundham of course. Someone reveals that they did see Gundham entering his room, but all the other floors of the house where occupied and no one saw him in them beforehand.

I already told you Sonia is guilty, and I think part of the reason they move away from her so soon would be that often the game comes up with weird complicated tangents that distract from the real case, but the cases are often stupidly complicated as well, so this would get the player off their rithym by actually being one of the easiest things to explain.

"The elevator was stuck in grape house, but he died in strawberry house. The murdered probably made it stop on grape house as a red herring!" How did he do that? Idk, but they assume that's it and latter have to return and remember theres no proof of a way someone in strawberry house could make the elevator stop at grape house.

"Sonia wasnt playing with the hamsters, the fur in Kazuichi's sleeve was probably from that moment" Sonia didnt play with the dark devas, but that doesnt mean she couldn't have done it in another moment, when she was hanging out with Gundham.

"How would have Gundham gotten inside Kazuichi's room?" First conclusion is that he offered to paint Souda's nails as a excuse to get in his room.

And heres the thing: he was indeed the one who painted Kazuichi's nails, it even happened in Kazuichi's room. The someone who saw him enters his room did actually see him coming back from Kazuichi's room, but at that moment Kazuichi was still alive.

What happened was: Sonia went to Kazuichi's room after Gundham left, because she knew Gundham was going there, he mentioned it to her when they explored the houses together.

She gets in the room and plays a little with Kazuichi, pretends to be interested, gives him some affection and he ends up laying on her lap, which makes things easy when she finally stabs him.

Theres 2 ways you could play this out, the Souda x Gundham way and the non shipy way.

So if you are not interest in the shiping side, heres how I would do it: Gundham doesnt like seeing people fight, it's part of his nurturing nature, he offers to paint Kazuichi's nails as a peace offering and to explain he isnt romantically interested in Sonia, as well as to ask him to not doubt Hinata either, since he can sense (as in: knows by his body lenguage) that Hajime doesnt plan on hurting anyone, much less Kazuichi who he considers a friend.

Sonia did approach Gundham for an interest in his obscure aesthetic and the thing about raising animals that is important for courtship rituals in her country, that she mentions in her free time event. But when Gundham tells her he wants to talk to Kazuichi she is an opportunity to frame him for the murder, she is already reached her boiling point with Kazuichi, even if she doesnt show it (like celeste).

Like celeste, she has been desperate to leave the game (as she also mentions in her free time event). She feels the responsibility to come back to her country, that she cant leave her people without a governor and she finally saw a chance of escaping the island.

Ok, shippy way: Sonia is jealous of Kazuichi because Gundham tells her he has a crush on Kazuichi. And Sonia has a crush on Gundham.

She cant stand Kazuichi anymore, all her life people have pretend to be her friends/lovers to gain her trust and favours, she doesnt trust anyone who is too enthusiastic about being close to her. That's why she likes Gundham, he is mysterious and quiet and she feels she has to conquer him instead of having him lead her on for favours.

Gundham is pretty bad at expressing his feelings but (as seen in his free time events) he is also clearly starved for affection. Kazuichi seems to have a grudge against him and Gundham admires that he is so enthusiastic about how much he likes Sonia, and fuck dude, he wants someone to be in love with him like that.

Sonia is completely done with Kazuichi already, and kills him out of anger and jealousy. He got Gundham interested in him despite being annoying all the time and she feels like he was stealing Gundham from her right when she was able to conquer his friendship.

She likes true crime, she has seen lots of stories of people murdering others for love, she even thinks its romantic.

So yeah, that's it. Its kinds dumb but I think it's ok since so many of the cases in the game are already dumb.

Rereading Korosuu Chapter 4 (the ChibaHaya chapter) from the perspective that Hayami has feelings for Chiba

And boy, is it a ride.

Listen, I’m a big ChibaHaya shipper but I never believed they liked each other romantically in canon. One of things I like the most about their dynamic is how great they are even without the typical shippy stuff like blushing, stammering etc. They work well both platonically and romantically.

So I never tried to go MiDDLe ScHOoL cHiBaHaYa is CanOn but then I read the Chinese translation Ch4 of Korosuu. And boy oh boy did it make me think Hayami has ✨feelings✨ for Chiba. (And he doesn’t.) I literally did not expect that, but once I saw things from that perspective, I can’t stop lol.

Keep in mind I’m analysing a Japanese -> Chinese translation in English, and I don’t have the Japanese raws, so the word choices may be off. And I am probably overanalysing but yes, I will eat these ChibaHaya crumbs for the tiniest bit of information.

Also keep in mind manga Chiba is more social than Hayami (you can check Fumiko’s posts for more information, she’s the Chiba expert haha). So while these two may have the same responses (eg. smiling because of what the other said), it weighs differently.

So Hayami was originally going home, but stopped when she saw Chiba trying to figure out a problem. And so she helped him pump the balloons to act as Chiba’s targets. They discussed for a bit, then they both said they were surely getting closer to their “answer”.

And then they both smiled. The translation is “速水露齒而笑。千葉也回以微笑。” which is “Hayami grinned, and Chiba returned with a smile”. But notably, the translator used “露齒而笑” (literally: grinning with teeth) for Hayami and just “笑” (smile) for Chiba. “笑” and “微笑” (which also means smile, but a little softer) are used five times in total, and considering they’re interchangeable in Chinese, the translator probably used them to add variety. But “露齒而笑”? That’s different. That’s the only time the translator used this term to describe someone smiling. And “grinning (with teeth)” feels more joyful than “smiling”. And it’s used to describe Hayami’s reaction.

Hmm.

By the way, let’s count how many times they smiled in this chapter. Hayami smiled 3 times, Chiba also 3. And literally every time they smile it’s in response to something the other did/said. Chiba smiles more than Hayami in the manga, so the fact that Hayami is smiling so much in front of Chiba... hmmm...

As mentioned before, Hayami stuttered when Chiba praised her. In the translation, she barely stuttered anywhere else. Hmm.

After a very long time, Chiba lifted his head and turned to Hayami.

“Hayami, you’re brilliant! So it was like this all along! Why have I never noticed something so simple?”

“Wh-what?”

Yeah. She stuttered after Chiba called her brilliant/amazing.

And then, of course, the most telling paragraph follows.

Hayami felt bewildered upon seeing the suddenly agitated Chiba. Even though she had always been looking at him in E class, she hardly recalled seeing him so delighted.

She had always been looking at him. Whoa.

The Chinese translation is “雖然一直在E班看著他”, special focus on “一直” (always) and “看” (look). Like, okay, it could mean “from her daily observations, she didn’t recall seeing such an expression” or “looking after him” or “knowing him from school” but this phrasing just makes me think she’s staring at him in class. And you know what, Chiba actually sits behind Hayami in another row. So she has to turn around to “look” at him, which is a deliberate action. Of course the translation used “E class”, which also means training and other misc stuff and not just conventional lessons.

Either way, she’s been observing him. She’s ALWAYS been observing him. Continuously. And she knows she’s never seen him so joyful. And the translator (and maybe Matsui?) felt the urge to point it out.

After complimenting Hayami, Chiba proceeds to explain his new theory. And thus the passage:

“So what do you think?”

Chiba turned to Hayami, a smile quirking on his lips. He lightly prodded the pages of his notebook with his mechanical pencil.

“That’s brilliant!” Hayami also used an excited tone to reply as she looked down at the diagram.

“If you weren’t there, I probably wouldn’t have thought of it. Even though it’s really simple once you notice it...”

Hayami used a smile to respond to his words.

The word “也” (also) is used in Hayami’s happy response to China. Granted, it may be a translator thing, to add word variety and connectives, but the sentence makes perfect sense without the 也.

From this we can infer Hayami’s mood is affected by Chiba’s, and probably vice versa, but Hayami’s case is specifically mentioned.

Next day, Chiba stays behind to practice again. And he looks sad because he’s failing.

Hayami thinks “I suppose even people like Chiba will feel uneasy when thinking about official operations” (一旦設想正式行動，即使是千葉這樣的人類也會感到不安吧。) This makes me !!!! because it sort of implies Hayami thought Chiba won’t be nervous. She thought of him in a positive light, only for him to disprove it. Also, the use of “吧”. “吧” is commonly used in dialogue, so here it implies Hayami is thinking the whole line despite the lack of speech bubbles, not some omniscient narrator saying it.

Then Hayami tries to encourage him.

“Relax. If you think it’s right, then it has to be.”

“Even though hearing you say that makes me happy...”

^ this is one of the most mutual shippy moments in my opinion. Hayami has total faith and trust in Chiba, and Chiba literally told her that her trust in him makes him happy. It just feels... kinda shipbaity. The sentence structure “雖然你這麼說讓我很開心啊……” (Even though hearing you say that makes me happy...) feels like something out of a romance novel (especially in Chinese), even though the words don’t exactly have a romantic meaning.

Chiba says Hayami’s words makes him “happy”, but he’s still troubled by the shooting problem. Hayami trusting Chiba despite Chiba not trusting himself makes him happy. Oho. That... can be interpreted in a shippy way.

When Hayami sees that Chiba is still troubled, she “nonchalantly” says “to fill in the gaps using intuition” (看著無法消除不安情緒的千葉，速水若無其事地說。”無法確定的地方，用直覺填補就好了喲。”)

I believe there’s a typo here, since the next line is “千葉帶著的表情抬頭看著速水”, which is “Chiba lifted his head to look at Hayami with a xxx expression”. So the translator accidentally left out his expression (the sentence doesn’t make sense otherwise), but we can easily infer Chiba’s feelings from the following lines.

Chiba basically thinks “Intuition? What? She’s talking about things unrelated to this shooting problem again.” He doesn’t say it out loud (no speech bubbles), but he probably shows his doubt through his facial expression that the translator unfortunately left out.

And Hayami wants to prove him wrong.

So Hayami roughly glanced around the classroom, and quietly uttered, “Vase, tape, Korosensei.”

Before Chiba could ask “what are you talking about?”, Hayami swiftly pulled out a pistol from her thigh and shot three bullets with surprising speed.

Hayami hits all three targets without aiming precisely. Naturally, Chiba is in awe, calling it a “miracle”. Chiba says even though he, out of everyone in 3-E. can shoot the furthest target using calculations, he can’t imitate Hayami’s perceptual(?) type of shooting.

And then:

Hayami shot a stunned Chiba a smile.

The word for “stunned” (目瞪口呆) literally means “eyes wide, mouth frozen”, but that’s just a Chinese phrase for being stunned.

Honestly, to me, I feel:

Hayami wants to help Chiba -> Chiba is in doubt -> Hayami wants to prove him wrong and show off -> she quickly shoots her targets based on intuition/emotion, not even waiting to hear what Chiba has to ask -> (she wants to show off lol) -> when she sees he’s in awe, she smiles (smugly?)

ALSO, Hayami may have gained confidence after Chiba praised her by saying she’s brilliant, and that may be why she shot so quickly (since the adrenaline rush or something.)

Hayami then says something:

“And if at that time, you’re not confident in your theories, in the end, I’ll still shoot according to my gut feelings. (Basically saying if you can’t do it, I can do it for you.) We can do what the other cannot do. If we team up and become partners, there’s no target we cannot hit.”

Chiba gazed at Hayami’s face for a moment, then smiled and said, “Thanks.”

Wow. What surprised me is that Hayami’s the one with the speech— she’s the more serious and reserved out of the two. For her to say something so “sentimental” when she’s usually like “I respect you”, wow...

By the way, “凝視” (gaze) is used. It can mean stare, but it usually means gaze. Also he gazed at her face (臉). This is specifically mentioned. Mmmmm.

And I can’t get over “將兩者合為一體的話一定能順利地進行”. It means “if we combine two into one, it’ll definitely proceed smoothly”. They’re... MERGING lmao. It’s so shipbaity.

There’s also more stuff, like how they agree on something without speaking, but that’s... typical ChibaHaya stuff. And that’s it.

SO:

Possible hints of Hayami’s feelings towards Chiba:

1. Hayami immediately helped Chiba with practice even though she was intending to go home

2. SHE LOOKS AT HIM IN CLASS. Bro. I can’t make this up.

3. Hayami is happy when Chiba is

4. SHE STUTTERED WHEN HE SAID SHE’S BRILLIANT

5. She wanted to prove him wrong by showing off (this is a stretch)

6. She low-key put him on a pedestal (?) because she thought he won’t be nervous (this is also a stretch)

Possible hints of Chiba’s feelings towards Hayami:

1. He was very noticeably happy, perhaps a side he only shows to people close to him

2. Chiba says Hayami praising him makes him happy

3. He gazed at her face. Yes, her face.

But I don’t think Chiba likes Hayami that way. Like, he didn’t stutter when she praised him, he just said he’s happy. Hayami is usually very chill and calm, and even quieter than Chiba, so when she stutters because of Chiba, hmm...

Of course all of this is immediately disproven by the mini comic, with Ritsu claiming they reply to their emails a day late and their heart rates don’t go up when next to each other. Psssh. Okay, Ritsu. I mean, we can always hc Ritsu is protecting her friends’ privacy by lying about them. And of course Chiba and Hayami can stay as purely friends. I like their dynamic either way.

Why do you think Vmin are "allowed" these questionable (at least for those who ship them) moments? I find it curious that some things are really pushed to the front (jikook for sure), and then sometime we get the vmin moments and left to wonder are they real or fanservice? I really despise the thought that either Jimin/V/other members are doing this on purpose, because they genuinely seem authentic (as much as a celebrity can be on camera), 1/2

Honestly, the whole moment of Jimin saying that he didn’t keep in touch with his members at all was pretty weird. Jimin, since day one, has painted himself as someone who loves his members very much. He doesn’t want to be away from them for too long, and he seems more interested with collaborating with each one of them individually before moving onto people outside of his group. This might be why we don’t have him collaborating with other artists while Jungkook, Hoseok, Namjoon, and Yoongi have all done so. And of course BTS as a whole. (I don’t think Taehyung and Jin have? But I might be forgetting something) And Jimin has a great voice. There’s no reason anyone wouldn’t want to feature him in a song. So I’m sure there are people who want to collaborate with him, and I imagine he’s gotten offers. (This is relevant to the ask, I promise.) Although language barriers may be a reason (he might not be as comfortable collaborating with people he can’t communicate with well as some of the others are, excluding Namjoon (and maybe Jungkook is getting there) who is better at English.)

So we can look at this several ways. We can take Jimin at his very minimal word and assume that he didn’t communicate with his members at all during his vacation. In which case, I would assume that he took it as a very much needed break from them, and decided to focus on the time that he was able to spend with his family. Or, we can assume that not every word is 100% true. Maybe when he says he didn’t keep in contact, he doesn’t mean that he didn’t keep in contact at all. Maybe he messaged them once in a while to see how they were doing, but didn’t contact them regularly. Maybe he did keep in contact with them, but just wasn’t talking about his vacation. They could have talked about anything under the sun, but since they weren’t sharing vacation details, he may have counted that as not keeping in contact. Because people would question, “mm, if you guys were in contact regularly, why don’t you know details about each other’s vacations?” If they happen to be talking about something, and another member seems to not know the information. He didn’t want to give anyone a reason to question things like that. We can also wonder if he did, in fact, keep in contact with them, but he doesn’t want to share certain things about the members and his personal time. So he just told us that he didn’t stay in contact with them. I don’t know whether to take Jimin at his word for that specific moment, but I also don’t think it matters whether they stayed in contact or not. Even if the members are close and consider each other friends or family, they don’t have to remain in contact at all times. I don’t think it’s weird for friends to go on vacation (say, home for the holidays) and not talk to each other. In fact, it’s the truest friends that can come back after not speaking for a week to months at a time and act like normal (instead of being awkward each other). Act like no time was lost. (At least this is how I see it because it’s how I am with my friends. I don’t typically keep in regular contact with people who aren’t physically around me [I don’t text much, so unless someone like talking on the phone or video chatting, we probably wouldn’t stay in contact while apart] because I like to enjoy the company of those I am actually with. This might have been the case for them. It doesn’t mean they aren’t close or don’t care about each other.)

Also I talk a lot about both Jikook and Vmin in here. Skip to the Vmin part if (for whatever reason) you don’t want to read about Jikook. But I’d rather you really read the whole post because this goes beyond shipping and focuses on them as people.

JIKOOK

The way Jikook is pushed to the front to me is actually one of the things that make me feel like they are fan service a lot of the times. (I’m not saying anything bad about Jikook because it’s pretty obvious that Jimin and Jungkook both adore each other and love being around each other, but they really are pushed quite hard and obviously.) I don’t know why that is. I don’t know the company’s reason behind pushing Jikook so hard, but I have at least one idea as to why they would do so (if they aren’t a couple). Because Jungkook is the “manliest” member of the group, and Jimin is the most “feminine.” You have Jungkook who is tall, broad, and strong. Then there’s Jimin who is small and cute, and he doesn’t try so hard to be manly these days. (I felt like he tried to present himself like a strong man in early debut because he didn’t want people to view him as the smallest and weakest member of the group, but it’s pretty clear that he became more confident in who he actually is over the years. And this is not a hint toward any gender-identity because I’m a firm believer that a man doesn’t have to fit the “masculine” spectrum to identify as a man. I feel like that’s leaning toward toxic masculinity).

Anyway, focusing on the Jikook thing, I think that’s why they get pushed forward a lot. And I hate to say that about Big Hit because it’s a bold statement to make, but it makes sense. They can easily look like a couple because it’s easy for people to imagine Jungkook as the “man” and Jimin as the “woman.” Since there are many shippers who ship for fetish reasons instead of gay right reason, these kinds of ships are likely to draw people in. It’s unfortunate, but it’s also true. Because of heteronormative culture.

The big moments between Jikook, like I said, often look like fan service to me. That being said, I’m not saying all of their moments are fan service. It just looks like interactions between them are more likely to be focused on during editing because of the reasons I’ve stated above. It might be something they aren’t aware of because it’s just editing their natural interactions to be the front and center focus of productions, but I think that’s what’s happening. And it kind of makes me feel bad for them because it’s like the company is making a show of their relationship (regardless of what kind it is). Even if they are in a real romantic relationship, I can assure that’s not why they are pushed to the center, and it’s far more likely it’s for marketing purposes. So, yes. I hate it for them, even if they are in a relationship together because it could be the company saying “look at these two. Aren’t they precious?” But it feels more like “Look at these two. Don’t they look like a “real” couple between a boy and a girl because Jungkook is oh so strong and Jimin is oh so dainty?” Even if Big Hit is LGBT friendly, it doens’t mean that they can’t do/say homophobic things (even unintentionally) or that they can’t market BTS for a heteronormative culture, and a culture that fetishizes gay people or uses being gay for entertainment. (Edit: and fantasizing.) I’m not saying it’s right for them to do so, because I don’t agree with it at all. And I’d hope that’s not the reality of it (because I really want for Big Hit to be different), but it seems like it sometimes.

Now before I get into the Vmin part, I’m going to share a disclaimer. Because I hope people don’t come at me after I’ve already admitted that it’s pretty obvious that Jikook are close and love each other. I’ve mentioned a potential romantic relationship between them, so I’m not dismissing them as the “real” couple (and I’m also, ffs, not saying there is a “real” couple between the two). I adore Jikook, and I wouldn’t even be sad if they were ever confirmed. So. Keep that in mind for this next part.

VMIN

I don’t want this to turn into a post of me comparing Jikook and Vmin, and I decided to answer this ask because I was sure that I could answer it with that intention in mind. So let’s see if I can do this right.

When it comes to Vmin, I feel like there are far less moments that can be chalked up to fan service. There are clear moments that are fan service, so I’m not saying Vmin don’t participate in that at all, but it seems like they do less than Jikook. (And I know this is a comparison right here, but I hope it doesn’t get taken the wrong way but) When Jikook does fan service, it’s so seemless and natural. When it comes to Vmin, it’s sometimes a little awkward, and they’re more shy. I don’t know what that means for the two different types of relationships, but I’m not getting into that (because then it becomes comparing the two in a way I don’t want to on this blog).

I think Big Hit chooses Vmin friendship moments to focus on because they know that people love their “platonic soulmate” dynamics. But, when it comes to “shippy” moments, these aren’t pushed forward as much. Because Taehyung isn’t broad and manly like Jungkook, so it probably seems a little too gay. And that’s not okay. It doesn’t sell as well as a couple that can be imagined as heterosexual. (And I also think this is why Jikook is the bigger ship, honestly.)

That’s it, and I know I didn’t address everything in this ask. And I’m sorry for that. But I tried to focus on what (I think) was the main point. And I wanted to make it about something very real rather than about ships.

So while I did, in fact, compare the two, I’m not comparing their “realness” or anything like that. I’m comparing their marketing value because I think that’s what it boils down to when we get to see what we see. And if anyone comes at me for my comparison on a personal shipping level, you will be ignored because that’s not what this is about. And if you can’t get that from what I’ve said thus far, then you aren’t reading my words and heart correctly.

I do want to talk really quickly about them faking it, and I’m going to focus on Vmin for this because it’s a Vmin blog. I don’t think they fake it. Because some moments are so subtle that they’re clearly trying to be hidden, and some are so natural that they clearly weren’t thinking about it too much. That aside, I don’t think they would fake their close bond. When Jimin wrote a song and was told that he would sing it with Taehyung, he didn’t have to make Friends. He could have made the song about anything he wanted, and we would have taken it with just as much enthusiasm. It was his choice to make friends, and I believe he put his heart into that song. Since it was the first song he ever had part in for an album, it’d be pretty disrespectful to claim that he’s just trying to save face or not being honest in it. And I know a song could be chalked up to how well it sells, but I think that’s for the company to worry about, but as an artist myself, I know that your heart and soul goes into anything you create. And I just don’t feel right about blatantly disregarding a personal song, so yes. It’s one of my main arguments why Vmin are obviously, honestly, close and care about each other. And I will stand by that forever.

EDIT: All right. I went through this post and personally cherry picked the things I wanted you guys to focus on when reading instead of you doing it yourself. Because you’re hung up about the fact that I mentioned that Jikook has fan severice moments (even though I said the same thing about Vmin), so you’re clearly cherry picking, not reading the whole damn post, or getting hung about the fan service instead of focusing on my main fucking point. I NEVER said they weren’t close. In fact, I took the TIME to put a DISCLAIMER stating that it’s PRETTY OBVIOUS that they’re close, and that they genuinely like spending time together. I get that I said “Vmin has less fan service moments” or whatever. Let me clarify: What I meant was that it’s the EDITING and the fact that they FOCUS SO HARD on jikook that makes a lot of their moments feel like fan service. There’s no shortage of Jikook moments, and it’s NOT because Jikook are the only ones with moments, it’s because they’re the ones that make the cut most often. And I stated the reasons why I think that is. I literally even explained the thing about the editing and said, “It might be something they aren’t aware of because it’s just editing their natural interactions to be the front and center focus of productions,” but sure. Dismiss whichever statements you want. Because clearly you get to decide what I mean instead of me. Also, “So, yes. And, in case it’s not clear from how I talked about their relationship here, I am, in fact, a Jikook shipper, too. I stated at least TWICE in here that I wasn’t trying to dismiss the realness of them. And I talked about how shitty it is for the company to use their relationship (if real) for marketing. And unless they’re ever confirmed, that’s what they’re doing. It’s marketing. Because if the company wanted people to care about their real relationship, they would let them come out. And that is NOT me dismissing the fact that they could be in a real relationship. If you can’t tell from what I’ve just written right here, I’ll clarify by repeating what I’ve already said in the post. Because if the are in a real relationship, I can guarantee you that is not why they get pushed so hard or shown the most. It’s because their masculine/feminine vibes are marketable. There are Jikookers, LIKE ME, who ship them because they like Jikook. But you can’t deny that there are a lot of Jikookers who ship them because they’re a straight girl in love with Jungkook and imagine herself in Jimin’s place because it’s easy to see. If you are one of the real Jikookers that ship them for their actual relationship and would LOVE it if they were ever confirmed, then fine. That’s not about you. But you have to admit that there are a LOT of shippers out there (not just Jikook) that ship them with guys because they don’t want them to end up with another girl that’s not the fan doing the shipping. Yet they still would be upset if they were ever confirmed because then it means they’re actually gay.

I love Jikook, and this post wasn’t intended to dismiss their relationship or bring it down. And I’d say I’m sorry if that’s the impression you got from it, but if you’d actually read and not choose which parts to focus on, you wouldn’t have gotten that impression. I just hate it that you guys got that impression because I do genuinely like Jikook. As much as Vmin, honestly. I was focusing on how the company treats the two ships, but sure. Dismiss every time I’ve drawn the post back to that point.

Hello! I've been binging your character analysis posts on IBO for the past few days and I love how well written they are (esp for the Human Debris trio!). Out of curiosity, what are your opinions on Shino and Shinoyama as a whole?

Apologies (as always) for the delayed reply, but thanks so much!  I've glad you've been enjoying the meta, as I certainly enjoyed writing it.  As to your question, Shino's a lot of fun, if not one of my favorite-favorites.  Probably my favorite aspect of him—other than his insistence that hot pink is definitely the coolest color a dude's robot could possibly be—is his angle on the setting's superstitions, as I touched on in the Ryuusei-Go post.  He also has great himbo energy—he's gregarious and exuberant, and very dumb, and overall just so fun! 

And I think at least some of that has to be considered on his part—the Mars orphans don't tend to have the kinds of backstories that would let Shino be as totally free-spirited as he appears at first glance.  I suspect his secret is a resolve to live each day like it was his last, because it well might be, though he's not so fatalistic as to say that out loud.  Whatever the case, though, it gives him a vibe that's totally unique in the Tekkadan cast, which is a) very helpful at managing tone and b) marks him as totally doomed when the series-ending bloodbath gets started.  

I also enjoy that he's just that little bit more perceptive than he lets on, about Lafter's interest in Akihiko, about Yamagi's interest in him, but maybe not quite confident enough in serious matters of the heart/romantic interest from cute boys that he knows what to do with it.  It shows an admirable open-mindedness, though, that he's apparently willing to take a stab at "taking Yamagi out for drinks"—almost certainly intended as a date invite, given the way he himself identified "going out with someone for drinks, just the two of you" as the kind of thing you do on a date.

As to Shinoyama—well, I have to admit that getting sniped out of nowhere by Yamachad in the epilogue put a somewhat different lens on my view on Shinoyama.  They're super cute!  I appreciate that a Gundam show was willing to go there!  I'm sure if Shino had survived the series, he and Yamagi would have been very adorable and I'd have been cheering for them the whole time.  I have a small cache of cute fanart saved for them, even.  But as must be pretty obvious if you've been reading my meta, Chad is one of my favorite-favorites, so I must admit that I am a bit Forever Salty that the fandom took one look at the possibility of him and Yamagi dating in the epilogue and immediately dismissed it—and rather huffily, at that.

Heck, I even saw people dismissing it with reasoning that would have also dismissed the implied romance of Shino inviting Yamagi out for drinks!  I mean, really: "They're just friends going out for drinks; saying they're dating based on that is really reaching!"  Guys, that is just cutting off your nose to spite your face—and also makes it seem like a case of getting overly defensive because you can tell there's something to it.

(Don't even ask about how salty I get every time I see shippy fanart of Yamagi and Eugene dating in the epilogue by—going out for drinks.  We're talking Cathedral of Salt-levels of asschap here.)

Shinoyama, for me—and again, this is total ship bias—are a very cute what-might-have-been.  But in the context of the show as it actually exists and as it actually ended, I'm much more partial to letting Yamagi grieve for a time (and I really did love the scene where he has to ask himself what he's still with Tekkadan for, with Shino gone) and then letting him move on with his life.  

...And Shino would think so too.

Do you ship Ryan/Sophie or Ryan/Mary more?

Like I get why ppl ship Ryan/Mary but at the same time I wanna see more deep platonic relationships on screen in geoso I really friendship them (idk why the right term is). Esp cus I think Ryan totally needs that in her life.

Also Ryan/Sophie would give us the enemies to friends to lovers dynamic that we all love! It's crazy that there's so little content for them.

Okay so... how do I explain this.. so, I multi-ship like nobody’s business, right — but I always ship in different ways and in different capacities, all while fully aware how ridiculous and non-sensical some of the pairings are. My brain is a constant mess, no lie, so when it comes to talking about shows and ships and characters, I say don’t take everything I say too literally. And I know that’s kind of vague so I’ll try to describe it better, at least in terms of Ryan/Sophie, Ryan/Mary.

So there are ships that I ship from more realistic lenses. Realistic, in the sense that these are the ones that are either already canon or have an actual potential to become canon. On our show, the ones I’d consider realistic are Ryan/Sophie, Ryan/Angelique (I don’t ship this one though), Sophie/Julia, Mary/Luke, Alice/Ocean. There are more but that’s just an idea. So that’s one way that I ship. And there’s a sub- shipping in this category as well in the sense, for example that Sophie/Julia would fall under a temporary ship, whereas a ship like Ryan/Sophie would be more endgame-type.

And then there are those ships that are like... they could potentially work if the circumstances were different, but they’re not and I know it’ll never happen so I just casually happy ship them. As in if we get a scene that’s kinda cutesy shippy, I’ll get happy about it, I’ll get all the feels. But I don’t actually, genuinely think it’ll happen and I’m not really pushing for it to either. That’s the type of shipping Ryan/Mary falls under for me, because the show tells me they’re friends, the show also tells me Hamilfox are probably endgame and not to mention as much as I like to think of her as pansexual, I’m pretty sure the show says Mary is straight. It’s not really something I expect to happen, nor will be upset about that they’re not going to.

So there. I hope I was able to describe that in a way that kind of... lets you know a lil bit how my brain processes those two ships. I love both in an equal capacity but in different categories. And in your term, I actually friendship Mary and Ryan really hard too (and I agree, Ryan does need that in her life and it’s just as important to highlight friendships). In the same way that I realistic-ship Ryan/Sophie, I realistic-friendship Mary and Ryan 100% too. I process shows very weirdly tbh, sort of like... I can be fully invested in two or more ideas that can be contradictory and yet somehow it still makes sense in my head. So it’s like... just because I romantic-ship Maryan, doesn’t mean I friendship them less. It’s sort of like infinite earths in my brain, which I know can be hard for some to understand esp for people who find it impossible to multi-ship (which is totally fine, to each their own), but that’s just how my head works. 

As for Ryan/Sophie, I actually feel like we’re getting the “right” amount for them at the point that we’re in on the show. We’re only 9 episodes in. They’ve already set up enemies-to-lovers perfectly for them, I like the pace that we’re going. It doesn’t feel too slow that nothing’s happening, but not too fast that it feels like we’re jumping straight into it either and lbr, no one wants that. Especially considering within those 9 episodes they’ve also had to introduce a whole new Batwoman and establish an entire backstory for Ryan, I think we’re good and I imagine they’ll only keep building on from here and I’m so excited! Plus, they’re the leads on the show and I doubt BW is getting canceled anytime soon, so I feel like there’s so much time and absolutely no rush and I love that esp. because it’s a rare thing to have build up like that for two qwoc so I really want that for Wildmoore. 😍
