#this is like levi almost death from snk
lucysarah-c · 2 days
Note
What do you think about Levi not mentioning Farlan and Isabel throughout the anime? They were literally his first real friends and family. Even in their deaths he was frustrated. But strangely we don't see any flashback scenes about them or Levi talking about them. It's obviously disturbing to me.
I have an Oc an underground childhood friend that I ship with Levi in particular and I didn't write their story down, but it makes me think that if my character was in danger or if she died with Farlan and Isabel or if she ended up dying long after their deaths, Levi would never remember her or talk about her, just like Farlan and Isabel's deaths, and that bothers me.
I know it's a bit strange to get this kind of analysis-like question since you are a Levi writer's blog. But since I love your writings and I really liked and found comfort in your answer to anon's question about whether Levi likes weak people. Because I am also a person who gets caught up in rumors and doubts whether Levi will like us or not haha.
Anyway, I don't want to deviate too much from the subject and make it too weird. You can answer question if you want.
Hi, sweetie! Oh, I see. Yes, I understand where you're coming from. First of all, I'd like to thank you for saying that you love my writing, and I'm so happy you found comfort in my answer about Levi and a "weak person." It's alright that we get lost in what the fandom discusses too frequently; it has happened to me too. And do not worry, rest assured, I don't find these "analysis questions" weird at all. Though my analysis will never be as good as my close friends', like my friend Sushi who used to have a meta-analysis blog of SnK or Cosmic! They are beyond amazing.
But to answer your question, before I get lost in my thoughts, long story short, Isayama is extremely bad at writing emotional connections in my humble opinion. In my personal group chat with my SnK close friends, we discuss this in great detail at least twice per week haha. In my opinion, Isayama is a writer or a storyteller who struggles to find a balance between keeping the plot going and creating a cohesive society and interrelationships between characters. I personally think that the story was always advancing so fast, full gas, no stop, that we hardly got any real details about the characters that made them human beyond their mere roles in the story.
I always use as an example, if one chapter in the manga or anime started with different panels of the veterans getting ready and sitting down all together for a meeting, we could have seen how their personal chambers were, how their interactions were not only between them aside the presence of the cadets, but we could have also seen how they confront early mornings, if they had paintings of loved ones, flowers on their desks, etc. It would have taken ... 5-10 pages at most, and we could have learned so much. It's something I even keep in mind while planning my own stories; I have an entire notebook of "backstory" for all the characters of Holy Ground, canon or not. So when the time comes around, I can drop little details of their lives here and there because... Let's be honest, has someone ever sat down next to you and said "here, let me tell you my whole life"? No, usually, you get to know someone organically, and that's also what, in my opinion, should happen in stories.
Now, going back to why Levi doesn't talk about Farlan and Isabel. Well, my best answer to you is, sadly, another question. Tell me one scene in the whole anime or manga where Levi was having some quality time with someone he felt comfortable enough to open up and talk about fond memories, be vulnerable, or even crack a joke about some silly hormonal stuff he did as a young man with Farlan. Tell me, I will wait... Haha.
Levi doesn't talk about Farlan or Isabel because he doesn't have screen time to talk about almost anything besides the plot moving haha. I would put my hands on a burning fire and swear that Farlan and Isabel are still extremely important to Levi! And so would be your OC! Don't let Isayama's literary limitations fence your story. That's my best advice; explore feelings that he didn't have the production time for (perhaps he wasn't allowed to write about it because of financial stuff) or he simply wasn't good at it.
Hope that helps!
Love ya!

Relief (ao3 link because now it's a multichap canon divergent fic woot woot)
Characters: Levi, Hange, The 104th kids, Onyankopokon
Tags: snk 132, canon divergent, fix it fic sort of, hange is alive and well, i mean... yeah hange's alive, angst, just imagine those mechanics were better at their jobs than in canon ok? ok thx
.
The honest shock in the gasp that escaped Hange's lips when Levi's fist hit their chest, louder than the sound of countless Colossals approaching, burned its way into his ears and engraved itself into his memory with so much force he almost backed away then. He stopped thinking as a Captain and a soldier for a second, stopped putting the entire world's value above what their life meant to his, and almost disregarded their last order to let them go and look as cool as possible to everyone else while he alone would be stuck remembering their shaking hands and voice as they prepared themself to fly off to their death –if he even made it out alive himself.
Except Hange had been his closest friend for a decade and outstanding leader for almost half that time; Hange had been steering the wheel of this sorry army of theirs with the last bit of strength in their formidable spirit and visionary mind in those direst of circumstances, and Hange wouldn't request this of him if they hadn't thought every other possibility through and weren't past ready to cross that line.
Hange had always dedicated their heart to the cause they rightfully supported, and now wasn't the time for Levi to challenge their last command. Now was the time for him to dedicate his own, and let them go –no matter if he shattered it in the process.
"Shinzou wo sasageyo,” he recited solemnly, looking ahead, thankful for once for their mirrored injuries, and their current position that prevented either of them from seeing the other's face.
He still heard and felt the sharp intake of breath they drew in after the words had tumbled from his mouth, and for a second there when he could feel their heart starting to beat harder and faster under his fingers, could feel the cruel scorch of unrealistic hope –that those words might have made a difference, that Hange might have perceived the corrosive sting that declaration inflicted on his tongue and the meaning under it and somehow changed their mind– flowing from the veins of his left hand directly into his heart.
Their posture straightened soon after anyway, their sternum pushing back against his hand that he let fall in defeat as their feet carried them away from him and a chuckle made its way through their lips.
"Ha, ha! It's the first time I've ever heard you-
The sound of quick, human-light steps drowned the rest of their sentence and Levi's head shot up to watch Mikasa nearing their spot, her mouth opening as she closed in on them.
"Hange-san, wait! Onyankopon just said the plane's ready to go!"
Levi felt more than he saw Hange turn around again to face the kid as he took in the words she'd just spoken, praying Gods he never believed in that his ears and eye weren't playing tricks on him under the loud sound of the advancing Rumbling and the dust that was starting to saturate the air all around them.
“Are you shitting us right now?” he asked, not recognizing his own voice, not sure it even carried far enough that she'd hear him.
“Come on, hurry up!” Mikasa shouted again, before sprinting away back where she'd come from.
The faked glee faded from Hange's face and they stared at Levi like they had that day they'd reached the Jeager basement and found out about the world outside the Walls, like they needed him to confirm his relative's words.
He could be of little help to them right now, when his own brain was having trouble understanding the situation, when his mind hadn't nearly recovered from this most recent whiplash. But he still nodded their way and started moving.
The two veterans walked towards the others and the plane, and Levi couldn't help but wonder if Hange, only a few meters ahead of him, was matching his pace out of kindness to not leave him behind, or if their legs too felt like they had to move through thick, ton-weighing mud with each step.
“Guess I'm not dying today after all,” they said suddenly.
Their humorless tone made a shiver run down Levi's spine and he looked at them sharply, his hand wrapping around their wrist.
“Hange,” he called when the contact didn't prove enough to make them turn around and face him.
But they only laughed a strangled, wet chuckle that sounded so unlike them, and refused to look back at him. Instead, they shook his hold off and picked up their pace, quickly reaching the others and helping them push the repaired floating plane into the water.
He didn't hear them speak again until they were all safe sitting inside the aircraft and they turned to face Armin, still panting from the effort they'd all just put into getting out of the hangar that had now been crushed by rubble the Colossals had shot its way while advancing.
"Well, that's embarrassing after that goodbye speech but... Armin, would you mind if I back-pedalled on that Commander promotion? At least for the time being?" they asked, a familiar, playful grin splitting their face as they looked at everyone but Levi.
"Of course not!” Armin replied, blushing at the direct address. “I'm only relieved you didn't have to sacrifice yourself for us.”
Agreeing noises could be heard from the other Scouts.
"Right, me too,” they said, their smile faltering ever so slightly. “Me too.”
“Everyone, hang on tight! We're taking off,” Onyankopon warned from the cockpit.
The cabin shook and thundered, but the deafening noise and trembling floor weren't distraction enough for Levi to detach his stare from the surreal vision of Hange, still alive and breathing, settling in the seat directly across from his own.
They readjusted their cape around their slumped frame, their still shaking hands lingering against the spot his fist had touched minutes ago. He let his eye wander to their face, spotted the tensed jaw, the downward edges of their mouth now, and the tears welling up under their one iris, and he knew for sure then.
Hange wasn't relieved one bit.

Hey! How are you? I was reading a fic, well almost a meta on Levi&Hanji's relationship in which something really bothered me. The OP said after Erwin's death Levi did follow Hanji as the commander and fulfilled whatever goal she gave him; however, despite the fact There is trust between them, the level of this trust would never reach to the one he had towards Erwin as well as his leadership. The thought makes me feel so uncomfortable because I don't think for a second this is true. Where do you think such a ridiculous opinion stem from and what do you think about the whole idea?
Hello!!!
I hope you are doing fine! Sorry the lateness on this reply!
Hmm, the idea that Levi trusted Erwin in a way he didn't trust anyone else is somewhat based on their relationship dynamics, imo.
For example, there are instances where their trust bond is particularly highlighted: in the Female Titan arc - where Levi says to Erwin "I'm going to trust your judgment" after the Commander orders him to replenish his gas when "there was no time and he already had plenty"; or in the first snk guidebook that highlights Levi's relationships, and it's trust with Erwin again; or also Levi’s character monologue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I think Isayama really wanted to put the trust bond of their relationship as something different from everyone else! What makes sense considering 1) Levi's hard past and horrible grow up in the Underground, and 2) the way he chose to share the same goal as Erwin in his life mission being to save humanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know, though, that some people often says Levi trusted him blindly or without question, as if he was only a mindless soldier obeying orders. But the truth is that while Levi does trust Erwin, he questioned stuff (ie, in the Female Arc); he called out Erwin’s "gambles" (ie, in the Reiss Titan fight), he reprimanded him (ie, in the pre-RtS battle). Above all, Erwin was also a great strategist, and he "brought the best results" as per Levi's words in his character song as well as Erwin’s journey up until his death. So Levi choose to follow and trust him for very grounded reasons, and his personal belief something would come out of their struggle for humanity.
That said, the experience Levi had under Erwin was very different from the one he had Hanji, imo. While Erwin always felt like he was walking ahead of everyone, and Levi came to stand in equal footing with him more toward the end of Erwin's life when the latter bared his whole to Levi in the crate scene, Hanji had always had a complementary open book relationship with Levi.
Like, idk, Erwin is of very confident leader, and Levi stresses a few times how he doesn't know what Erwin is thinking (like in their smartpass) but still trust the man, and the text ends highlighting how they both are the greatest men of the SC; or Isym saying Levi felt a little betrayed after discovering Erwin’s dream, but still followed him. While Hanji and Levi are completing each other's sentences, or having telepathic conversations, and listening to each other's trail of reasoning to reach a mutual understanding and trace plans of actions. So things are just different between them all...
As for the level of trust Levi had in Hanji as Commander, I think the fact Levi asked Erwin to let Hanji lead the troops in the RtS battle and "wait for the good news" gives a solid idea of how much faith Levi had in her leadership too.
Tumblr media
Hanji was an integral part of their advancement with her intelligence and inventions, her experience as Squad Leader was one of the best in the battlefield considering her group had the highest survival rates because of their constant experiments/studies of Titan behavior, and aside from her absolutely excitement with Titan Studies when the opportunity for it seemed fitting, Hanji was fully committed to fight to death for Humanity and showed pretty much deadly willpower to fulfill her mission. (Also, Erwin believed that Hanji could one day unveil the mystery of the Titans, and he trusted the SC leadership to her hands since Uprising Arc. These things are not small stuff.)
So that's it imo - their relationships were different, and Isayama did put an emphasis on Levi and Erwin’s trust bond.

Until I Fall - Part Eleven
Levi Ackerman x Fem Reader.
Eventual romance but this is a slow burn, definitely angsty and darker. It will also focus a lot on Hange, Erwin and the original scouts. Eren and the 104th training corps will be around but I’m focusing on the older characters in here. Your self insert name is ‘Azeria Becker’ pronouns She/Her/Hers. Using a name because don’t like using ‘y/n’.
Cannon universe. I wrote this for myself but I hope that you enjoy it, too lol <3
cw: imagine literally every awful/gory thing that happens in SNK. Death, violence and gore. Drinking, sex. (bolded ones in this chapter)
I will be releasing 2 chapters at a time every few days. You can find all chapters here.
Tumblr media
The bells went off almost as soon as you got up.
“Huh?” Levi turned to the window, looking out into the courtyard. A soldier was standing in the field, screaming ceaselessly.
“WALL MARIA! WALL MARIA HAS BEEN BREACHED!”
Here it was. Worst case scenario.
“Shit,” Levi cursed, bolting for the door. You jumped out of bed to get dressed. “And what do you think you’re doing?”
You ignored him and put on your uniform, your body turned from him. “I’m going too.”
“Like hell you are,” he grunted. You shot him a serious look that startled him, “Levi, you can’t stop me. Lets go.”
You ran to the field, all of the remaining scouts running to their horses. Hange and Mike stood at the front. “We ride to Shiganshina! Erwin will join us en route, lets go!”
A burst of horses hooves rumbled the ground beneath your feet. Your head was pounding from the concussion, but you couldn’t sit back; now the titans had finally broken in, and civilians were threatened. It had already been hours since the breech, and the garrison was competent but not ready to fight the titans up close. Faster. You needed to be there faster. Who knew how many people had died already? Your eyes furrowed frustration, We were just there this morning. Now, hours away, you’d be returning to the very same hell that you’d just left. It was a nightmare. Not a single soldier riding had a calm face; Hange and Mike were at the front, holding the same determined stare that Erwin usually had. Everyone else’s faces were shocked, angry or frightened. If they got through wall Maria, then humanity had just lost hundreds of thousands of acres of land. Where would they put all of the people? Where would they grow the food on the inner walls? Shit.
You looked over to Levi, his eyes staring back at you with the same expression that you wore. Either way, humanity is fucked. You knew he was thinking it, too. There was forty soldiers in total that rode out to Shiganshina. Only ten from this morning’s expedition and thirty who stayed behind in the morning due to recovery or other duties. It was a slim army. You had been diminished by the expedition, and here you were riding into hell once again. Please let us live a little longer, you hoped. If you took losses the same way you did in the morning, the Survey Corps would cease to exist.
Everyone rode one as fast as they could. You were starting to approach wall Rose when you began seeing all of the refugees; hundreds of people on ships, their screams and cries echoing through the valley. You scrunched your eyes closed. It was too hard to look. It was nearly impossible to fathom that soon all of the towns from the North, East, and West would be evacuating into wall Rose too. There’s no point in worrying about that. One thing at a time.
Once the Survey Corps reached the wall, pulleys were raised by the Garrisons to bring them to the top of the wall. It was only then that you saw the destruction. Shiganshina was a wreck of toppled buildings and littered with titans. “Shit,” you cursed. Levi scoffed, “Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Hanges voice cut through the gasps and shock, “Alright everyone, this is a recon mission! See if you can find anyone left behind or stuck in the city! There’s no way for us to kill all of the titans. Bring back anyone alive and don’t die!”
“Do we have an ETA on when Erwin and Shadis will join us?” Moblit asked.
“He should be here by sunset,” they responded.
“Alright, there’s not many of us so let’s work in teams! Hange, Levi, Moblit and I will lead and take on a wing. Let’s split in to groups of ten!” Mike shouted.
“You’re coming with me this time. You’re a liability out there,” Levi said to you. You blushed, embarrassed from being so stupid. “I promise not to be a hero,” you said back. He nodded at you, his eyes sharpened to you like a knife.
Your team took the west quarter and began searching. Levi was up ahead killing the titans and you tried your hardest to find any signs of life. The landscape was grim. Homes closest to the southwest were riddled with bloody carcasses and destroyed buildings. You killed as many titans as you could. The city at the very least was good for using ODM gear. You tried to ignore the fact that you had just been there in the morning; its markets full of vendors, kids running in the streets and people going to work. A few hours didn’t seem like much but it was enough to destroy the city.
Erwin and Shadis arrived as the evening sun was setting, flying between the squadrons to make sure everyone was alright. You worked into the night, your body in searing pain and exhausted. But you couldn’t stop. You had to keep moving forward. No matter what. The titans seemed to dissipate at night, and finally, after hours and hours of searching the city became silent. All you could hear through the streets were the soldiers calling out for people and the gas pressure bursting on the ODM gear. Finally your last blades had broke, and most of the gas that the garrison and the Corps had was depleted. “SOLDIERS FALL BACK,” Erwin called out. You let out a sign of relief, which made you feel guilty. But you had nothing left in you anymore; you had to rest.
Once you got to the other side of the wall, the buzz of people surrounded the ground. There was noise from every direction; crying children, soldiers trying to organize people, medics and supply carts arriving with cannon balls and extra reinforcement for the wall. Your head throbbed with pain. You sat on a crate drinking water and eating rations, trying to find a way to feel better in any way that you could. Your muscles could hardly move, and now you had cuts from broken glass and debris covering your limbs. Your ears rang and your body was weak. Please just let me rest, you begged. Up ahead you saw Hange, Erwin and Mike talking to the Garrison captain within ear shot.
“…you’re saying that there was a titan taller than the wall that disappeared?…”
“… there was another with it as well…”
“…how could they just vanish like that…”
“…no we didn’t see anything like that when we went…”
You were listening in intently. The conversation gave you a feeling that made your stomach drop. Something was off. What happened on the expedition was far more bloody than the first journey out; and now this? You searched their faces for some kind of indicator or sign. Hange looked deep in some sort of thought. I’ll ask them tomorrow. You knew you couldn’t today, you could hardly keep your self upright.
"I’m surprised that you were able to come,” Moblit said, joining you on the crate. You offered him your canteen of water and he took a swig. “I mean, it wasn’t much of a choice. Look around; we’re screwed,” You blurted it out and even your voice was hoarse. “That’s true,” He replied, “But it’s still very strong of you.” You looked down at the ground and nudged a pebble with your foot, “Thanks. How are you doing?” He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, “I really cant think of a worse day.” You let out a laugh, “I hear you there. Did you manage to find any survivors?”
“Only three. You?” He replied.
“None,” silence lulled around you, “I feel like this is bad to say, but I’m really tired.”
He frowned, “It’s not bad to say.”
A few hours later it was finally time to head back to headquarters. Maybe you’d get to bed by sunrise. The ride home was silent. The wind rustled around you, and the moon shone above in the sky. You looked up to the stars, wondering how a place so beautiful could be so full of ugliness. What would come tomorrow? You were so tired, you began to question yourself. Why were you here? Why would you subject yourself to this life? But then you thought of all of those refugees who had just lost their homes, their family and friends. Would you ever be able to live with yourself if you didn’t help them now? The feelings felt like they were splitting you apart from the inside. You could never go back home now. You had to make this place better. Better for those kids that you saw who were alone and crying, better for the families who had no homes, no food and nothing but the clothes on their backs. You had to do it for the future of humanity, whatever that future may be.
“Hey,” Levi said. You had forgotten he was beside you. “Do you want me to take your horse? You can rest in the carts.”
“I’m fine,” you said quietly. There was no way he believed it. You could feel his eyes on you and you didn’t want to look at him. Your eyes were fighting tears and sleep. Please don’t look at me. You didn’t want him to see you so broken. That wasn’t really true. You really just wanted him to hold you again, like he did when he saved your life that morning. But there was no one to save you from this pain. All of these wounds were inside of you, and you’d have to protect yourself.
"We’re almost there,” He replied. The silence fell over you again, and the only thing that kept you awake was looking up and watching the moon above.
When you all got back to headquarters, you nearly ran to your dorm. It was still empty of people, and now you were all alone.
You laid in bed, soaking your pillow with tears until you finally fell asleep.
Please let me feel better. You didn’t know what hurt the most.

A Burning Hill
╚══════════════╝
Tumblr media
characters: levi ackerman x fem! reader
plot: levi meets the world's strongest soldier
tw: spoilers for levi's ova, swearing, angst, failed suicide attempt, mentions/suggestive themes of depression, slow burn, character deaths, a bit of fluff, mutual respect, unspoken feelings.
a/n: first fic of the year, hope u guys enjoy and happy new year!!! snk in 7 day, i can't wait holy shit. its so sad it's the last time we wait for an snk season drop though..
god he hated this godawful deal. levi never wanted to become apart of this whole "scout corps", though if it meant that isabel and farlan would be safe and out of the underground then so be it. however protecting them would be much more difficult while dealing with giant sized blood thirsty creatures than the usual grimy members of the underground mafia.
most of all he hated that blonde guy he fought. erwin smith. the man that humiliated levi in front of everyone and forced him to join the army. his priority was to kill him off as quick as he could.
"Introduce yourselves"
"the name's levi" he mumbled half-heartedly, taking a look at the surprised faces of the soldiers in front of him, shocked from his forwardness and lack of respect for the commander. all except a young girl who didn't seem to care one bit. soon isabel and farlan introduced themselves and the commander went on with his speech.
"flagon this three will be joining your squad under y/l/n's training. look after them. y/l/n have i been made clear?" silence.
everyone turned their eyes to stare at the girl as she remained silent and gazed up at the sky paying no attention to the conversation whatsoever. what a weird person. a soldier with brown hair and little square glasses lightly shook who levi would guess was y/l/n, snapping her out of trance and looking around frantically to see if anyone would notice that their friend had been so out of it that she hadn't even heard half of what the commander said.
"yes sir"
"did you even listen to what i was saying?"
"i will do my best to train those three" she exclaimed strictly saluting the commander "you needn't worry. i will shape them into the finest scout members" levi was slightly taken aback by how she was able to snap back in reality as quick but didn't pay that much mind as the commander nodded and kept on with his announcements.
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
"you guys have been living in the underground for all your lives so try to keep this place clean alright?" who the fuck did this man even think he was? levi wanted to snap his neck and if they were still in the underground, where they had no rules he definetely fucking would. before he had any chance to respond, a familiar presence leaned against the doorframe and glared daggers at flagon.
"would you dare to repeat what you just said, dear flagon? didn't quite catch that" she spoke. her voice was so elegant and smooth in contrast to her visibly annoyed expression "don't you think its rude to talk about people from the underground like that, especially when your superior is one too?"
"forgive me y/l/n i didn't mean to-"
"know your place. leave, i will show the girl her room myself" sighing, flagon exited the room in a trance of anger. he must have really hated her guts despite the respect he forced to show. "come on sweetie, I'll show you your room" her voice was much softer now as she looked at isabel with a sweet smile. now it was almost like she was a different person from the commander's speech and the woman that stood in front of them now.
"oh my god! you are so cool! are you from the underground too? i've never seen you there!!" isabel exclaimed happily as y/l/n laughed at the naive and kind nature of the girl "shes so pretty too" isabel was right. that woman was beautiful.
"didn't need your help" levi spoke slapping the back of isabel's head lightly, saving her from the embarrassment "i could deal with this myself"
"i have no doubts. however i would greatly appreciate if you came to me whenever someone speaks ill of you due to the place you- the place where i come from. come on sweetie, lets go" and with that she left with isabel quick on her tail, following like an excited puppy.
"dude she's so hot"
"shut up farlan"
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
soon levi and the gang came to realize that the woman of the name y/n y/l/n wasn't just a random scout assigned to train them, but the best soldier the scout corps had. her skills were sharpened into perfection and her strength/mobility was worth the power of an entire army. her training wasn't easy either as they had to keep up in order to become the best version of themselves and survive.
isabel had also started to call her 'big sister' much to levi's dismay as he didn't want to get to close to anyone in case they betrayed them and ruined his plans to assassinate erwin smith. she also seemed to be close with erwin, another reason as to why they didn't need to get close. levi respected her enough to not mingle her into his devious plans concerning her friend
much to his surprise she called him over to her office for dinner with the excuse that she wanted to talk to him about important matters, concerning his skills and progress.
"you and erwin seem to be very close, is he your boyfriend or something?" levi had asked the girl as he watched her choke on the piece of beef she was chewing
"do you always ask people such personal questions, levi?" he hated how her name rolled so easily off her tongue "and no, he is the one that saved me from the underground like he saved you. i owe him my life and he's like an older brother" he nodded and looked down at his food as he heard her shift and suddenly her soft voice was nothing more than a whisper a few centimeters away from his ear "you wouldn't happen to know anyone that would want to hurt erwin, levi, do you?" cold sweat washed over levi. did she know? he didn't want to get her out of the picture but if it was crucial to his and his friend's safety he would have to
"wouldn't know" he had simply opted to say turning to stare into her e/c eyes, faces an inch away from the other's "wouldn't care" smirking she sat back in her seat taking in a bite of the meat that had started growing cold.
"god i really wish the chefs would actually know how to cook, the meat is so stiff, my boots could be more appetizing. the tea is also really shitty, it's more like bitter hot water? no?" he watched closely as complained, curious to know whether she was suspicious of him or not.
"i've noticed. there's so many types of tea up here and noone seems to appreciate and take the time to learn how to brew it correctly"
"that's why i am here" she chuckled taking out a pair of teacups from under her office, followed by a beautiful matching teapot "after erwin's uncle and his father brought me into the surface when i was a child, mr smith taught me botanology while i was growing up, here take a sip" she rambled as she poured the hot liquid into his porcelain cup "sadly the corps need me so i can't really do what im actually good at" what even isnt she good at? levi had thought. the tea was perfect, better than any he had before "it sounds lame but i would love to open a tea shop. maybe one day, doubt it but it never hurts to dream"
"you dont lack in the tea making. im actually impressed, i would be a regular if it would be you making my tea" she didn't mean to blush and he definetely didn't mean for his words to come out as flirty "tea isn't what you called me here for, am right?"
"you are correct. levi, i want to ask you a favor" and just like that she was back to her formal self "become stronger than me, promise me you'll become stronger and take my place"
"you have power, why would you want to lose it like that"
"never said i'd lose it, do as i say, its an order"
"what kind of order is that?"
"a special order. from me" something was definetely troubling her and she just didnt feel that he had to know the real reason behind her orders. she thought he wouldn't even care "i hate being a leader. im indecisive and don't think a lot of things through, believe it or not that causes a lot of troubles for the corps. as much strength and skills i have, strategy is not my thing and im tired. you're an incredibly smart and strategic person. can i rely on you to take my place, levi?"
"is there more to it? it can't be just that"
"its a personal matter. im vulnerable in this position alone. i want someone to have my back and that person is you. please dont ask me anything more, just- just promise"
"then..." their eyes were locked from across the table as she awaited for his answer "i will get ten times as strong as you are now and i vow to prote- to have your back" he let out watching her sigh in relief and smile at him sadly.
"thank you, levi"
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
it was a warm night when levi decided to take a stroll to the rooftop of the scout corps headquarters. to be exact, 2 days before levi's first impact with an actual titan and 2 days before his assassination plan would be put to work.
and so, with the tea y/n had brewed for him earlier, before she had rushed off to take care of some business, he walked enough to find a quiet place to gaze upon the walls at. it was then when he had noticed that he was actually not alone in the rooftop. a woman not any more than 20 feet away from him was standing a little too close near the edge. levi couldn't make out who the woman was, yet he slowly lowered his belongings to the ground, trying to be as quiet as possible so that he wouldn't startle her. his queue to run and tackle the woman to the ground came when she turned around, back faced towards the void, opening her arms and preparing to fall. then he finally got to look at her face
"you know it's rude to tackle people to the floor, it makes you look unsettling" she was the first to speak after they both caught their breath. he had hoped to see her the least scared, yet she was unphased. emotionless.
"said the person that tried killing herself two seconds ago, now that is unsettling" sitting up she pulled her knees to her chest and laid her head to the railing, eyes fixated on the sky "do you have something to say?"
"will i always feel as empty as i do now? i would have died two minutes ago and it just feels like a normal tuesday to me" she chuckled "not a single star in the sky tonight. mood-killer"
"you were planning this, weren't you? when you asked me to take your place, you wanted someone to replace you so that you dying wouldn't cause loss to the scouts"
"oh it wasn't obvious?" he raised an eyebrow at her question. did she really think her life was that meaningless? they might have not been that close yet she was a reliable and strong soldier. she was a person with unshakable character and most of all she was human and noone deserves a death like the one she was about to give herseld "im going back to my room i have to finish the paperwork i thought i would be free from"
"im gonna come with you"
"you're so forward levi, inviting yourself in a woman's room" she teased, her grin not reaching her eyes however "what is it to you anyways?"
"don't get any ideas. you still have to train me, you're not annoying and i wanna make sure you won't do anything stupid that will cost my tea in the morning" he said, helping her back on her feet as she looked at him curiousl. she must have thought it was humiliating, to be seen so vulnerable and naked in front of the eyes of her trainee "you dont have to tell my why. but dont try this again" his hand was still intertwined with her own, taking in how soft her skin felt against his.
"im glad you enjoy my tea, levi"
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
"you knew all along? you knew all along and you never stopped us?" no he couldn't have known. how could erwin have known?
"she knew all along" oh "you should thank her, actually, because of her you and your friends lived as long. you're still here because she protected you" and then it hit him.
"you wouldn't happen to anyone that would want to hurt erwin, levi, do you?"
"she only told me so i would watch my back but she made me promise to not lay a hand on you" why would she protect them even after knowing that he wanted to kill her dear friend? Just what was going on inside her head?
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
"i dont wanna talk"
"i dont care, i do" the soft voice had spoken from the other side of the door, calm and collected as always.
it was a week since the expendition. a week after isabel and farlan lost their lives by the hands of an abnormal titan, which levi had slain. during this week, levi had been shutting himself off and distancing himself from y/n. he wasn't close with anyone else besides isabel, farlan and he didn't want to admit that him and his trainer-new squad leader after flagon's death- were close. everyone he was close to has left so far and there was nothing promising him she'd be the one to stay. he had decided that he would just avoid her until she got bored and just moved on with her life.
"my brother and i were brought here the same way you, isabel and farlan were. erwin's uncle was a commander so he brought us to the surface so we could join the scouts. i was very little so erwin and his father took me in until i was of age to decide whether or i would join the scouts too. erwin was the most adorable child, he had those little chubby red cheeks" she laughed recollecting memories of the distant past "my brother was a really good strategist but a weaker fighter, the opposite of me. on my first expendition i had to watch a titan rip him to shreds because i was too late. i reacted badly and did an overkill on the titan. i acted exactly how you did. i shut myself away from everyone. hange and erwin convinced me to come out and start training again" silence "what im trying to say is that we are alike. i know how you feel and you can always talk to me about your feelings. bottling them up did me no well-"
"you talk too much" levi grumbled slightly opening the door to let y/n in. he looked paler and skinnier than before. slowly she reached her hand to caress the skin over his cheekbones which were now more prominent. every fiber of his being screamed to just push her away, to cut her off completely. but how could he when she was so sweet to him? when she kept him so balanced. just why was levi so infatuated with her?
"we're getting food, let's go" her sweet tone had changed to a much harsher one now. when she saw that levi hadn't moved a muscle she grabbed his hand and tried to drag him out of the room but he just wouldn't bulge "do you think isabel and farlan would like you sulking your life away in here? let's go to eat and then i'll even read you a bedtime story if it's good enough to get you to sleep"
and it just hit levi that noone had ever treated him like she did. his mother died when he was a child and kenny raised him without an ounce of fondness , in other for him to adapt thick skin so he could face the world. he was older than isabel and farlan so he had to look after them at all times and yet, levi was left to fend for himself, unable to comfort his own self.
"brat"
"what did you just call me?" she questioned taken aback and slightly annoyed since her main goal was to take him out of his room and take care of him and he was just acting out of character all of a sudden "you know for the tough guy act you sell out you really are awkward and weird"
"shut up, brat"
"the hell are you smiling for?!" and it didn't take long to realize that she had never seen him smile before, however she decided to keep her thoughts to herself. internally she was screaming "come on let's go"
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
"you know, i really get jealous of those cute couples you see all around town, it's so cute" y/n complained during a festival held inside wall maria as she stared at a couple walking hand to hand "heh, levi, can you hold my hand too?"
"no" he mumbled as he watched the pouty face she made. god he never wanted to see her all sad like that, even if it was her playful teasings to get what she wanted. slowly his hand inched closer to her own, as if to test the waters. their fingers were softly touching each other, and then he took initiative to entangle them altogether as sudden electrism flowed their bodies from where their bodies had touched. the things he'd do to have her hand wrapped in his every time of the day "how come you're so jealous of couples, you've grown soft brat?"
"your hand is cold as a blade left out in the open during winter and no, its just, they always have each other no matter what, if you know what i mean"
"don't we always have each other too?"
"we do" she smiled "now who told you to stop holding my hand, captain?

the world is heavy and cruel (love feels like exfoliation across your skin) a levi x reader fluff drabble
cw: suicidal thoughts, levi runs you a bath, canonverse, mentions of other characters deaths, spoilers for character deaths in aot/snk.
You survived. You survived.
You survived.
Your head spins as you think about all the teams you've had in the past, all the deaths you carry - Erwin. Sasha.
Why did you survive?
You haven't showered since the battle. Hunched over in the corner of the room, your Wings of Freedom cape still wrapped around you.
You can't help but think it's pathetic. Thousands of people have lost their lives, and yet you're sitting here contemplating your own? Can the deaths of all those people weigh up to the feather of your own heart?
You sob again into your arm, the kind of sobbing that lurches from your chest, purges every negative thought again and again.
You don't even hear the door open and shut, the bath water starting to run, the footsteps leading to you, until strong arms wrap around you and carry you to the bathroom.
You don't even have the heart to look at him, but he doesn't say a thing. Just takes off your clothes one by one, unceremoniously, but without resentment. He does it like he does the dishes, or wipes the table, with duty and dedication. His fingers are gentle across your skin.
"Do you want to tell me what's going on?"
It's the first thing he's said to you since he got here. He's not looking at you directly, eyes downcast to your body, wanting to give you the space to respond.
"I contemplated my own death," you whisper to him.
Levi's eyes widen, his gaze at the sink hardening.
"I know you hate a pointless death, that's why I didn't want to say anything." You shut your eyes tightly, bracing yourself for whatever he has to say.
He doesn't say anything. He carries you into the bath, takes a stool and sits himself just outside, takes a cloth and some soap and starts to scrub your body starting from your feet.
You look at him with wide eyes.
"Life is-," he swallows before he continues, he can't believe he even has to say this, "life is inherently valuable. Your life is valuable, valuable to me."
He doesn't look up at you once as he speaks, continuing to scrub your calf with a cloth and soap, raising it up to your knees and thighs.
"You're right, I hate a pointless death. But what I hate even more is the idea of you thinking that your life is pointless, as if your life doesn't have meaning," he chokes, the words thick in his throat like honey, but he continues nonetheless.
"The world is heavy, and cruel, but you- you and me and our friends, we are going to fight until it's not. We are going to fight to survive, to live, to know life without all this, without whatever you're feeling right now."
The room is silent for a moment before he speaks again, the sound of water moving and Levi's scrubbing echoes through your mind.
"I have to know that when we go out there, and we fight against the Titans, against the world," he looks up at you this time, eyes full of worry, of sadness, "I have to know that you will fight to survive. That you'll fight to live. That you'll fight to come back to me."
The last line is almost a whisper, a caress over your skin.
"Promise me you'll fight to come back to me."
Promise me you'll fight, because you both know you can't plainly promise to live, but you can promise to give the world a reckoning before it's your time.
You breath your emotions through, inhaling Levi's soap scent that feels a lot like love, and exhaling the fear.
"I promise."
Levi looks at you and says nothing, grabs your face with his soapy hands and kisses you on the lips with strength, like he can imprint his love onto you if he presses hard enough.
He scrubs the rest of your body down. You realise love feels like exfoliation across your skin.

························································································································
levi x fem!reader
w: death mentions, fake death (?), slight nsfw in the end (really vanilla it's most centered on the feelings :D). No Regrets war flashbacks, some snk spoilers. mention of blood.
························································································································
“Y/N” Levi’s tears are falling from his face to your skin. Nobody has seen the captain so broken, crying in the middle of an expedition, hugged to your body. He caresses your skin. “Love, please, wake up...” he asks in a whisper, his voice breaking while he keeps crying. “Please.”
Levi feels Erwin’s hand on his shoulder, calling him. “Levi, we have to go!” Erwin says. Levi can’t take his eyes away from your beautiful face, how your closed eyes are never going to shine with that love they always do. Erwin shakes his shoulder harder. “Come on, Levi!!” he yells. Levi takes your body on his arms, but Erwin stops him. “What the hell are you doing?” Levi hugs you closer, tears falling from his eyes again.
“I’m not gonna leave her behind.” He says, his husky tone serious, as if he wanted to say to Erwin that leave you behind isn’t an option. Because you’re only asleep.
Right?
“She’s dead, Levi. Dead. Leave her. We can’t lose you because you’re carrying a body.” Erwin’s words hit him. Dead... Dead is a word Levi hates. Because it is always followed by the name of someone he loves or cares for. His mom. Isabel. Gunter. Petra. You.
“No. She’s...”
“Leave it, Levi. You don’t want more people to die, don’t you?”
That’s true. He needs to be on his full capacities to defend the trope. He looks around, to a place where he can leave your body, knowing the titans will never take it. He easily founds a tree that has a hollow trunk, with a small slot through which it can slide you inside. He leaves you there, along with a bottle of water, in case you’re still alive. He kisses your forehead. “I’ll come back for you, love. I promise.”
···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ····
You wake up inside a tree hours after. You feel dizzy and your head hurts a lot. There’s a little bottle of water near you, and, needing it, you open it fast, drinking. You can hear a man’s voice inside your head. “Drink slowly, dummy. It will make you feel worst.” You don’t know who does that voice belong to, when it sounds so familiar. You can’t also recognize the place, looking through the slot. You’re dressed in your military clothes, and you still have your swords with you. Your light brown jacket is covered in blood. You start to recover some memories. The expedition. The titan that sent you away with his hand. Levi yelling your name.
Levi. Levi.
All your thoughts were back to him. Is he okay? Why did him leave you on a tree? Did something happen to him and he decided to hide you? Maybe he hide you for a moment and never came back?
You’re feeling anxious just with the thought. It has to be a normal reason. He’s okay for sure, and he will be back as soon as possible.
“No” Erwin’s voice is clear. Levi clicks his tongue again.
“I have to go back for her...”
“Levi, there’s nothing you can do for her now.” Hange says. Even when them wanted to accompany Levi -they were sure they could capture some good titans.- They didn’t want to disobey the Commander. “We wont make another expedition just for a body. I know it hurts, but let it go.”
“Fine. I’ll go by myself.” he says, getting up. “I don’t need anyone to go to the nearest fucking tree and come back.” He leaves the office, slamming the door. Erwin sighs.
“Hange, tell the 104 Special Squad to accompany their captain.”
It was afternoon when Levi was prepared to leave, but he found his squad on the wall’s door.
“What are you all doing here? Go back training, brats.” he says, getting on his horse.
“The Commander told us to accompany you, Captain.” Jean says, adjusting his jacket.
“We’re here to help you, to bring her back inside.” Eren smiles softly. That words make Levi change his opinion. He sighs.
“Be careful and don’t leave my side, right?” They part towards the door, and they leave. The camp is quiet after the extermination of the day before. Connie looks around.
“Do you think we will find her alive?” he asks in a whisper. Levi hears that, but he ignores it. Even when he knows it’s almost impossible to find you alive. They walk silently towards the tree where he left you. He runs quickly, leaving his horse with the squad, as they keep a distance. In part, because they want to pay respect.
Levi’s heart breaks when he sees the empty trunk. There’s nothing inside, even the bottle isn’t there. He made sure to leave you somewhere they couldn’t find, but they did anyway. They found you. They didn’t let him say goodbye to you.
Levi kneels in front of the tree, tears running down his face again. He wants to be strong, but he can’t. He has lost you. The most important person in his life.
You drink again before putting the bottle near the river, taking more water. You stand up with difficulty and walk towards the tree slowly, giving secure steps. You’re feeling dizzy yet, but you needed to drink. You know Levi will came back for you, and that’s why you walk back to your hiding place. You see horses when you’re getting closer. Horses and brown jackets. And, when you’re just a couple steps far from them, you see him, kneeled in front of your tree.
“Levi...” you whisper. He’s alive and he’s there. He came back for you. “Levi.” you say, stronger. Jean and Eren turn around. They see you, covered in blood and pale, but alive. Jean runs towards you and he helps you to walk. “Levi.” That’s the only thing you can say.
Levi is used to listen to his loved ones voices once they had left this world. That’s why hearing you whispering his name isn’t something new for him.
“Captain!” Instead, Eren’s voice sounds clear. “We found her!” the smile can be heard on his voice. Levi wants to kick his ass for joking in a moment like this, but he faces you when he turns around. As beautiful as always, you’re supported by Eren and Jean, and they are making sure you’re not falling. Levi stands up as fast as he can, and he hugs you. You can feel his tears on your shoulder as he feels yours on his. He caresses your hair quietly, hugging your body stronger against his. “You’re here.” he whispers. You nod, sobbing. You have missed him, you have feared for him.
“You’re okay.” you say. He answers you with a kiss on your hair.
“I’m sorry, love. They made me leave you here. I knew it was bad, but I... I.” his sobs doesn’t let him talk. You caress his back, trying to calm him.
“It’s fine.” You whisper. After a couple minutes trying to calm each other, Sasha talks.
“Why don’t we resume this beautiful moment inside the walls? I don’t want to end being wedding catering for a titan.” They all nod. Levi helps you to get on top of his horse, and he sits behind you. There, caged between his arms and feeling his heartbeat against your back, you feel safe again.
···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ···· ····
“I’m sorry.” he says. The doctor has just left the room, saying that you only injured a little bit your leg and your head is healing well. You’re on Levi’s bed, the one you usually sleep on. He sits near you and kisses your forehead. “I’m sorry for leaving you behind.” he says. He thought that, once you knew he left your body there, you would be mad.
“We’re soldiers, Levi.” you say. “Sadly, we can’t take all the bodies with us. Sometimes we have to sacrifice for the others.” you say. You understand Erwin’s decision and Levi’s pressure. You’re soldiers, after all.
Levi combs a lock of your hair with his fingers, softly. “I was so scared... I couldn’t close an eye during the night. I only could think about you.” he says. You smile softly at him. “I was terrified.” You attract him towards your body, hugging him. “I’m sorry, love, I’m so sorry...” you try to calm him with caresses and sweet kisses in his head. “I feel like you’re an illusion, that you’re just a product of my imagination playing with me.” he says. He takes his head out of your chest. “Maybe I lost you and that’s why you’re here? To comfort me?”
You take his hand, sneaking it into your t-shirt, placing it near your heart. His eyes shot open when he feels your pulse against his palm. “I’m here. And I’m real, Levi. I’m the Y/N you always hug. I’m the same. I’m alive.”
His lips search yours in a kiss. He wants more proofs. He wants to make sure you won't disappear when he blinks. He needs to make sure. His hand is still in your shirt, but he isn't searching more. He needs to know you want the same, that you feel good enough. He feels your hands attracting him closer, pulling by the neck of his shirt. He sighs.
Kisses and mixed breaths. He looks at you when you part for air, his chest rising fast, his hands playing with the end of the t-shirt you're wearing. His eyes looking at yours, asking for permission. You nod quietly, looking at him in the eyes, making sure he understands you want this. His hands take off your shirt, admiring every single scar on your body, every mole and every birthmark. Making sure every one of them is in the same place it was, that your body is still the same he remembers. That they are all your little details he loves to admire.
For your surprise, he leans on and kisses every one of them. Every single thing that makes your skin special. You blush at it, but he doesn't care. He's showing without words how much he adores you, how much he cares for you. The affection and love behind every kiss is overwhelming. Your hands are fast unbuttoning his white shirt. He lets the fabric slide down his shoulders once you're done. Feeling his skin against yours is one of your favorite sensations.
There aren't too many words while he keeps kissing every inch of your body, taking away the fabrics that obstacle him. You can only think of him, of how cold his skin is, how good he feels and how much you've missed him, even for just a day. Because when you didn't know how he was, it felt like whole centuries. He lets out a sigh when he gets under the sheets with you, being careful to not cause you pain, standing on his arms on top of you. He smiles, a true smile when you tangle your fingers with his. His grey eyes have a mix of a lot of feelings: love, apology, desire, happiness... they're like storms. You feel his tender touch on your thighs, guiding them. You follow his movements, obeying him.
"Take advantage because I won't be so obedient next time." you joke. He chuckes quietly, and it warms your heart. He smiles so widely after that... You feel so good just watching him. He takes a hand down, fingers probing down your body, making sure you're ready. He chuckles again when your amused expression changes after a single finger touch.
His name comes out of your mouth like a praise. When he touches you, when he buries in you, when he quietly kisses you. You mind and body has his name tattooed while he sets a pace against you, slow but intense. Levi's low praises make your body search him more desperately. When his pace starts to fail and his hips move without any patron against yours, you let out his name again.
"Say it again." he asks. Hearing your name come that easily from your lips makes it even more real. More intimate. "Please." his voice isn't more than a low whisper now, mixed with sighs. He smiles when you say his name again, pushing against you a last time. He lets his head rest on your chest, your quick heartbeat against his ears. He tries to calm his breath. "I love you. I love you so much." he says. "I'll never leave you behind."
You smile, your fingers running through his hair with tenderness. "I know. I know, Levi." you whisper. His eyes feel heavy after the nervous night he passed yesterday, so he acomodates himself by your side, his bare body near yours. You feel his lips on your shoulder.
"And thanks for always coming back for me, no matter what"

A detail in smartpass about Hanji and Erwin
Although there is no direct interaction between Erwin and Hanji, I found it interesting
Late Night Stories Vol. 07 Nifa “A Story of a Misunderstanding”:
https://snk-smartpass.tumblr.com/post/187937524480/late-night-stories-vol-07-nifa-a-story-of-a
The next day, Erwin spoke to Nifa as he wore a cheerful expression on his face.
“Nifa. Reading that letter yesterday made me glad to be the Commander.”
“Excuse me?”
“‘Seeing how youthful and active you always are gives me energy! Please solve the mysteries of the world!’ …That’s what it said. It made me feel determined all over again.”
“Oh.”
The letter had been addressed to Hange. While Nifa had broken out in a cold sweat, it was also rare to see the Commander in such a good mood. Was it the “youthful” part that made him happy?
This is a letter of praise from a citizen to Hanji, but Erwin made a mistake and felt very happy and excited
(——It reminds me of what I have always thought. Erwin admires Hanji's personality and he kind of wished that he could be like Hanji at least in the eyes of others)
“By the way, that would mean…Hange got a letter addressed to either the Commander or the Captain.”
“Oh, Hange would happily accept any compliment. They’re so positive that they could be called 'humanity’s strongest’ and take it as honest praise.”
“I knew it had gone to the wrong person, you know.”
“What?” Hange’s subordinates said as their eyes opened wide. Hange looked up from the papers and put their glasses back on.
“Why wouldn’t I be happy to know that my corpsmates are being praised by citizens?”
“So you do have a human heart, Hange…”
(——Hanji also received a wrong thank-you letter, but she easily saw that it was sent wrong. As always, it shows her calmness and "instant judgment."
“So you do have a human heart, Hange…”——This must be mock of Moblit. Why are his words always so funny Lmao)
This reminds me of a scene in the manga: Erwin was very excited when the people cheered the Survey Corps
Tumblr media
——This is the first time that the Survey Corps has been popular.
The sentence sounds indifferent but actually very sad. For more than ten years, Erwin has been fighting in Survey Corps and watched his comrades sacrifice everything for mankind, but the citizens have never given them recognition and respect
Maybe they once praised Erwin as Squad Leader, but he knew that they just used him to satirize the Commander Keith. And once he came back from his defeat in the battle, the ridicules and questions waiting for him were also harsh
He said that he "swindled my comrade sand swindled himself" that they fought for the sake of mankind, but when citizens themselves are so harsh, how can such "swindle" be valid for a long time? His blood has long been colder, but he will still feel childish excitement in such a scene
Tumblr media
From the surprised expressions of levihan and other veteran, I think that maybe no veteran takes these seriously like him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's particularly interesting that the cheers of citizens are mainly for Levi and Hanji. They established a good relationship with the people during the coup, which can also be said that they have established the legitimacy of the new government. However, the two were very calm in the cheers of the people and were still murmuring:
Tumblr media
Levi: They talked so self-willedly.
They are well aware that they cheered because they did not understand the situation and were too optimistic influenced by incomplete information . This kind of hero worship has nothing to do with themselves. Just as Levi was indifferent to the cheers of youngsters before.
The only veteran who was genuinely excited was Erwin. He who has the power to stir up fanaticism in others is also more likely to get into play and excitement than others. He is really childish in this respect
Tumblr media
Of course, Hanji also wants recognition. She is lack of self-confident and almost always lonely, but maybe she needs to be recognized by someone who understand her and has similar ideas to her, such as journalist. This make her feel "supported". It's cute that she even blushed
——As my friend said, Erwin needs more trust and praise, while Hanji cares more about understanding and support.
Anyway, I think Commander Hanji has been trusted and respected very much by the citizens over the past five years. Although it's sorry to watch the panels of her being pressed by the public, but their ways of questioning I think are relatively mild
Tumblr media
Fregel: I understand that Hanji San's position is hard. So please look at me in the eyes and say, just trust me.
——They wouldn't have said such words if they hadn't fully trusted her honesty
Tumblr media
Hanji: Everything we do is for people of Eldia's sake
Hanji looked very tired, but the people who listened to her did not continue to make noise
Comparing the people outside the office of President Zackley... Ehhhh..
This is the result of Hanji's sincerity and integrity.
Tumblr media
She always tried to stand on the citizen's position and convey their ideas and needs to the government even after the death of President Zackley
Pity that they would never have a chance to deeply exchange their doubts and feelings after.

Summary:
The Ackerman duo. Just the mention of this name filled Hange with so many feelings. Mostly, when she reread the files of their cases over and over, until her eyes watered, she felt pricking annoyance. Sometimes, when she stared at the dead bodies of those scarce unfortunates who stumbled upon their crimes, she was filled with hatred and a pushing need for revenge. Hange couldn't deny, however, there were times when she marveled at the impudence of their crimes. And, when she was investigating the Ackerman's cases and saw just how meticulously planned they all were, she couldn't help but feel something close to fascination.
No one knew who they were. No one had seen their faces, no one knew their true names. Almost everyone knew of their crimes.
Hange was determined to unravel every last one of their secrets. She will put an end to their crimes and then she will get the elusive Ackermans behind bars.

The rain had started up again. Fat droplets drummed over her hood, drenching the fabric. Her horse’s reins were wet and cold; though her fingers, numbed from continued exposure to the elements, could hardly feel them.
Following the sound of the explosion, they’d arrived at a clearing. It was a mess of blackened, shattered wood, and the wagon, a skeleton, was little more than a smoking husk. Beyond the wreckage, a titan lay prostrate. Felled, its limp, hulking form was barely visible through the rain.
As soldiers shouted, pointing at the creature, one of the horses still tethered to the ruined wagon, writhed. When the beast screamed a broken, panicked wail, her own horse shifted, flanks twitching with unease.
Hanji barely noticed.
The soldiers' voices, the poor beast’s screams, even the heavy, even thrum of rain - had silenced as she looked to the river.
A body lay at the edge of the dark, white-capped water.

"I feel like it’s the very fact it’s HANGE that they find unappealing" As a hardcore Hange fan this makes me so sad lol. I hate how fandom (and latest canon) treat Hange, it's like they're never enough. They tend to forget about them when people talk about the most smart snk characters, there are some horrible takes about their death and they just reduce them to an unhygienic loud soldier, which is not true at all. Even at ch 132 people found 1000 ways to interpretate their sacrifice like Hange was dealing with x syndrome and they just wanted to escape from responsabilities, but when the previous commander decided to lead his soldiers to the final battle at shiganshina, even without an arm, in an almost suicidal mission, dying in the process, he's a legend. They both decided duty, but why one is "heroic" and the other just "wanted to escape". I'm sorry, I know the whole 132 plot may not be appealing to all, myself has a bittersweet feeling till this day, but I could never imagine Hange-the same that didn't want Jean to feel responsible because Reiner escaped, the one who was with Connie after his mom was turned on a titan or the one who gave Mikasa a gentle hold- allow them to sacrifice themselves if they would be a chance they would live.
Hange has been Levi's companion for years, they read each other's mind, both of them understand each other's quirks...why is not Hange enough? Because they're not a dude? Or because they're not a cute petite soldier that makes a tea that Levi loves? Lmao.
Hange's smart, strong, they care about people (I've seen people still trapped on Ilse's diary saying that hange doesn't care about soldiers), is kind, they're curious...I wish people would see them in a kinder light, they are/were an important piece on the SC. Even though I've seen people thanking Hange for being a badass after saving Levi aka fans favorite, I wish they would give Hange more credit for everything they've done.
This rant was longer than I thought, I'm sorry, please don't feel pressure to answer this word vomit haha.
No, i agree with everything you said!
I feel like WIT studio is partly to blame though. Manga Hange has so many different sides to them while Hange in the first 3 seasons was reduced almost entirelly to their "mad scientist" self. People latched onto it and and can't let go.
The OVA Ilse's notebook especially did them a disservice by turning them into a reckless idiot. 🙄
Also the whole "Hange hates bathing" spin on them by the fandom makes me cringe. They don't *hate* it. They simply get so overworked they forget for weeks.

Hello, Hello, would you mind to write a scenario for Levi Ackerman with a female s/o were they have a argument and Levi accidently hurts her physical in some way?
Thank you very much and please be careful 💚
Okay, hello, I have been working on this for a HOT minute and this is the only way I thought this could go (because Levs would never ever ever ever hurt his s/o, poor man has seen his mother being violated so much too pls-) tell me if you like it, I'd be glad to know if you're satisfied with how it went.

Bullet
Tumblr media
Crimson liquid run in gushes from the wound in your shoulder splattering your whole body and your surroundings. The pain was immense and torturous and reeked of the adrenaline that your body was trying to produce, all on vain to soothe the uneasiness, as with every passing second the hot rushes of blood that flew to the spot put your mind in a burgundy haze. Your left hand was trembling, your body was still in shock by the hit and your necessary intakes of oxygen had long surpassed the normal rate by now but you weren't in a position to slow down.
The odds had been against you ever since you decided to follow Levi and not lead the infamous cadets of the 104th squadron.
It was the silent clicking of a gun that had caught your attention as you discussed how much of an ambush this whole situation seemed with Nifa and Levi. You almost perked at the spot, a fragment of a second faster than Levi, buying yourself enough time to jump into the most unthinkable situation; getting Levi out of this commotion safe and unwounded, you'd take the incoming shot for the stoic captain to stay alive.
The bullet had blown just through your shoulder with enough force to send you flying to the ground, meters away from the hotspot of action. As you heard Levi's voice screaming an earth shattering call of Kenny Ackerman's name you pushed through the pain that has shaken your body to the core and shot your drills to the nearest building. Your heart was beating fast, eyes rapidly checking in all directions to examine your surroundings while the pulsating of your shoulder begged with you to take action on it's recovery.
Only ever when you made sure your surroundings were clear of armed soldiers did your feet drag you outside the dark alleyway. Pushing through the intense pain you managed to shoot the drills of your gear onto a empty rooftop, trying your best to evenly distribute your weight on the equipment. One mistake and you could easily be wiped out.
Therefore you settled for sneaking carefully in between dark alleys as gunshot sounds ravaged your eardrums; It was definitely Levi who was taking all that fire on his own, sending your heart to an uncatchable pace as the blood that pulsated in every inch of your body would manage to find an exit through the wound on your shoulder.
As the blasts kept getting unbearably closer by each passing second you glued yourself to the stone wall and ducked down, to protect any part of you in order to see for yourself if Levi was indeed the target of this manhunt.
Your speculations were correct.
Upon him passing by -incredibly fast- your eyes met his for a brief moment, forcing a shocked hitch to leave his lips as his eyes widened. His expression, dark, anxious, as if he had just seen a ghost and refused to believe it.
The state of your well being was still unbeknownst to you; you hadn't even taken a chance to see how drenched in blood your clothes were.
With another fast shoot of your quills and a press to your gas' handle you landed on another rooftop, far behind from the horde of men that had all their attention on Levi.
Everything went quiet for a moment. Sheer tranquility masked the air. The fire of action seemed to have been out off momentarily, yet you don't have an eye sight of the situation. You couldn't seem to slow down your breathing not even for one second, your alert eyes repeatedly scanned the areas around you to detect any suspicious move.
Despite the unfair odds and your position you had managed to successfully locate the cart with Eren and Historia, only to come face to face with the commotion that had occured. Hange's men were taken one by one, this time in your comrade's place sat a wide eyed brunette who screamed at the horses to go faster.
The sound of shooting thundered in waves around the town, startling you, urging you to jump into action. The wagon couldn't by any means, slip away from you or your team.
You tapped against your right gas canulle, begging for the sound to signal that it was halfway full at least. The left one was busted from your previous impact against the cold stone buildings, still you were sure you could push through with as much as you had, even if it seemed deadly enough to get you killed.
The cadets were startled as the saw you as they proceeded to bombard you with questions about your condition to which you could barely reply with full sentences. Slowly your body was giving in to your injury, to a point where you couldn't ignore it. Still, you bothered with how much more you could take.
"The hell is that!" Jean inquired, eyes pacing between the gory scene unraveling before him, and you, still troubling himself with taking in what he was witnessing.
Levi flew hurriedly flew by, pumping his gas one before launching his drill to an armed man's abdomen. His face hardened as the men was dragged to him, hands already gripping his blades steadily.
He went straight for the kill. Blood cluttered everywhere around him, staining any nearby surface.
Everyone's faces went numb as frozen droplets of sweat run down their foreheads. Naturally, in your shocked state you failed to provide any comfort to them, even if their despairate eyes were begging you to.
"Follow the wagon!" Levi commanded, his breath hitching in his throat as he sat still, despairate to take a momentarily rest.
"Right!" Mikasa complied sternly.
"Listen up, these soldiers were trained to fight other people, they've already take up three of ours," restlessly, Levi flew to lead the team, launching himself alongside of you, but still not sparing you a glance. "If you hesitate for so much as a second you'll be dead. The moment you see an opening go for the kill!"
"Yes sir!" Once again the ravenette in a stone cold tone confirmed her Captain's orders were well understood, forcing a gulp to flow down everyone's throat.
"And you, (y/n)!" This time his eyes were intensely burning dark holes in yours. "You stay back and lay low, this is an order!" You watched as he gulped, taking a moment to breathe through his nose in an attempt to calm himself down. "And don't ever think about taking a bullet for me, ever again."
Despite the gallons of blood lost and the tremendous pain you managed to find the spitfire in you to reply, eyes wide with rage at his last comment.
"Sir, with all due respect, I'm fine with laying low, but-"
"No time for you to form your own rebellion over my words, lay low or you're getting killed. You've made yourself the easiest target!" His words dripped of poison, unnerving anger that did nothing to convey his worry, making your head blur with similar rage.
You refused to believe that the first thing he would try to converse with you on the subject would actually turn out to be a scolding session. As if you were an imbecile child. As if you hadn't tried to push through to keep offering your abilities to your cause.
"Kenny would have shot you right then and there! What did you expect me to do?" You screamed. Your lungs burned with every command to withstand the pressure. Hot blood found its way through the hole in your arm again.
"No he wouldn't. We don't have time for this, Lay low!"
Levi's tone was sharp as a knife slicing your flesh like soft butter, somewhat hurting you more that the small piece of metal in your body. "You can't handle yourself like I can at the moment." It was rare they the two of you would bicker like this, and there was so much you could handle with an oozing wound, barking at him seemed to be the way to get your point at him.
"You're unbelievable," you squealed "I just saved your life and you're downgrading me?"
"Don't put words in my mouth, you know what I mean."
"Oh, do I now?" You mocked.
"No one else dies on my watch and you can't fight, so out of our way!"
Levi launched himself into a tent, backflipping his way through another kill. You hated to admit that he was right; you couldn't even make it to a few kills with the remaining of your gas yet the adrenaline in your body was raging against every plead of you to stay behind.
"You can't keep me out of action!" You barked, eyes glimmering with stubbornness as you followed the team's lead to the wagon. Jean was the first to land with Armin, throwing the brunette soldier way from her spot. You didn't seem to pay enough attention to your surroundings, the clicking of a gun behind you fell deaf to your ears.
"I told you (y/n) we don't have tim- watch out!" Levi's eyes widened in terror at the sight of the armed man towering behind you. Shaking hands that still held his blades reached out fast, boldly enough to launch onto the collar of your shirt, bringing your form onto him, only for your nose to harshly collide with the steel handle of his blade in the process. In turn you were thrown harshly onto a nearby tent.
A moment later his blades had slashed through the man while a rage filled scream muffled your ears.
"Armin Secure the wagon with Jean! We'll keep you covered!"
At trying to catch up in the commotion on the wagon, he witnessed in agony as Jean gulped, a gun nearly pressed to his head. Mikasa called out his name, launching her blades and spinning in the air. If it wasn't for Armin to ruthlessly pull the trigger to send the brunette to her instant death, she would have been too late to save her comrade. Levi clicked his tongue in misery. This was getting worse by each passing second.
"Armin! Jean!"
You laid on the tent, left hand scrunched against your bloody nose as you tried not to move. There were still armed men everywhere, if they detected you were alive you were done for. With half lid eyes you watched the scene unfold in front of you.
Three more men had towered behind Levi and the cadets, pointing their guns on them. Levi and Sasha jumped to the scene, shoving their comrades out of the wagon. The had successfully missed the fire of the shots for short seconds. As a sigh of relief left you your right eye lost focus. Your head felt dizzy, heavy at the numbing pain that shoot from your whole body. As the effects of adrenaline slowly wore off your body started to give in, eyes battling an already lost fight to stay open.
The last thing you heard was Levi calling out your name.
__
Your eyes painfully shot open.
The top of your mouth felt dry. You couldn't swallow. A strong metallic taste adorned the tips of your tongue. In a panicked state your eyes were blinking rapidly at the darkness around you, alternating gazes between the group of people a few meters away from you and the flickering light of the fire.
In contrary to your body, your head felt feathery light as numbness toyed on your brain, taking forms of a thousand little ants stomping each cavity they could find.
"Ah, Captain she's awake!"
Your body couldn't move and your mind couldn't think, yet Connie's words rang a few bells that alerted you. After what seemed like an eon later, a flick switched in your brain, widening your eyes upon hitting you with the most profane realisation.
"It's probably the morphine shot that has you numb like this. I took care of that bullet in your arm and I fixed your nose."
Your eyes bored into Levi's steel ones, unintentional apathy splattered all your face. You couldn't help but stop your bruised lips from forming to a small pout; as your coincidence flowed withing your body with every passing of the time you were reminded of the heated exchange of words you and your lover had shared before your body gave in.
Levi's eyes softened as he watched your face fall into an angered expression. A sigh of relief escaped him as his hand extended to your direction, calloused fingers lingering on the thin locks on your forehead.
"Shit" he groaned through gritted teeth "Fuck, I'm so sorry (y/n), you know I didn't mean to break your nose right? Given the situation I knew you'd land safely on the tent, I just had to get you out of there"
His eyes were sincere, flickering with agony as his hand rested behind your ear. The look on his face was enough to make you melt, to give in to whatever he ever said, you couldn't deny that much.
"I know how devoted you are, you could have taken that bullet for anyone not just for me, that's who you are." Another sigh escaped him, this time sneaking profoundly out his trembling chest.
"Y-you don't have to s-struggle with your-r words. You were right-t. I shouldn't have pushed my self with such little gas while losing so much blood." You coughed. Essential sentences were spilling out of your mouth. You knew when to step back into your place, especially in arguments that you were on the wrong. Levi had been right from the beginning, but you had pushed forward, worked yourself to the limit.
"Tch, I would never intentionally hurt you, you know that much right? I didn't mean to cause you more pain-"
"Levi, my love," As you laid on your back you watched the fire in his eyes cool down at sound of the endearing pet name. His chest stopped taking sharp stressed breaths and his hand started rubbing soothing circles at the nape of your neck. "You don't have to apologise, please. I was on the wrong. If anything, you saved me from being fatally shot. You shoved Jean away as well."
Levi's antics were nothing strange to you. You had spent years by his side, training as a part of his team, fighting alongside him. The way he cared for his comrades was unmatched, unable to be mimicked. You knew of his tragic past, so him acting compulsively like that wasn't something you wouldn't have expected. You weren't mad that you had gotten hurt in the process of him ripping you away from deaths grip.
The only thing that had ever made you mad was that, momentarily he wasn't willing to approve of your sacrifice to him.
"I threw you like shack of shit, I don't deserve you going soft on me. I should have not downgraded you."
Your eyes shut, lips curling upwards onto a tiny smirk, one that lifted Levi's spirits just a bit. "I'll stop being so hotheaded." You managed to admit, letting a chuckle escape your lips. Rarely you could stop yourself from giggling when you'd make up with the man.
"Brat! Don't laugh when we're having a serious conversation!" His eyes hardened, voice full of affectionate authority. You were so eager to brush off the subject of him guilt tripping himself, to lift the weight off his shoulders.
The weak bubbling laughter that escaped you after was contagious and never ending. It felt as little, continuous jolts of static electricity shocking your body as each exhale, but it was unstoppable, not even for you to answer properly back to him. The effect of the tranquilizing shot was perfect on it's part as well.
"I-it's just that i- love you. That's all. You've always got a spot on poo comment about everything."
Levi's head lowered in defeat, his nose leaving out an amused whip of air in the process. As you watched him, you felt a familiar warmth numb its way through your body from your stomach and outwards. Perhaps, this time he didn't want you to assume what he would say. Perhaps he was still guilt tripping himself or perhaps your laughter was getting through him at a moment he had to be stern. Nevertheless you never missed the words that felt his lips, before he went to quickly brush then against yours.
"I won't be as hotheaded as well, I promise. I'd take a thousand bullets for you I hope you know that."

One thing I want to discuss right now, even though I haven’t yet reached this point in the manga of SnK, is Levi’s choice to let Erwin die on the rooftop in Shinganshina.  I’ll go more into it in detail once I’ve read the chapter where this happens, but I have watched the anime, and read some panels from the chapter already, so I’m just going to go into a little bit of my thoughts here.
One thing I haven’t seen discussed much is how much Kenny’s words to Levi right before he died impacted Levi’s decision here, even though there’s direct, visual correlation between the two, with Levi thinking back over Kenny’s words as he makes his ultimate choice.
Levi is sitting over Erwin, syringe in hand, ready to give the serum to him, when Erwin’s arm flies up and accidentally knocks Levi’s hands away, before he starts muttering incoherently about his father.
Kenny’s words to Levi before he dies, about how everyone is a slave to something, that everyone has something that drives them, has a big influence on Levi’s choice here to let Erwin die, and that’s acknowledged, but I don’t think it’s always delved into just WHY Kenny’s words make such a big impact on him.  Kenny, in the end, let his final action be one of selflessness, by giving Levi the serum and letting himself die without realizing his dream.  This ran contradictory to everything Levi had ever known about Kenny, which was that he was a totally self-serving man who would do anything to keep himself alive.  In that moment, with Kenny’s final act, he shows himself to be more human that Levi had ever seen him before.  No longer the probably larger than life figure Levi had always seen him as, as a man who saved him when he was a child from starvation, taught him how to fight, and then selfishly abandoned him to survive on his own.
Now, how this connects with Erwin, and Levi’s decision, is that similarly to how Levi finally saw the frailty in Kenny, saw the human weakness and fault in Kenny, Levi saw it also in Erwin, up on that rooftop, probably for the first time.
I think in terms of Levi’s view of Erwin, he saw Erwin as a person who, as Isyama said, was “an existence bigger than his own”, as someone who could see something he couldn’t, could understand something more profound about the world than he could.  Had a greater vision and scope than Levi, or anyone else.  In a lot of ways, I think Levi almost hero worshipped Erwin, saw him as an ideal human being, of altruistic, selfless character, willing to do anything and everything to ensure the survival of humanity.  But, of course, when we hero worship a person, we tend to become blind to their faults.  I think that’s why, when Erwin accidentally revealed the true motive behind his actions to Levi, Levi looked so shocked, and was later so upset.  He realized Erwin wasn’t the perfect man he thought he was, that he suffered from human frailty just like everyone else, and that he was just as subject to selfish whims as the rest of them.  Before, Levi looked at Erwin as the ONLY person capable of leading the SC and gaining humanity their ultimate victory over the Titans.  To him, Erwin was the only person who could achieve this, the only person with the scope of vision able to achieve such a seemingly impossible task.  And even after Erwin reveals the true motivation behind his actions, even after Levi’s perception of Erwin as this altruistic, superior person begins to crumble, Levi STILL believes Erwin is the only person capable of leading them to victory, of saving humanity with his mind, etc...  Levi still sees Erwin as completely necessary to humanity’s success.
But... I think, up on that rooftop, in that moment when Erwin knocks the syringe away and begins muttering incoherently about his father, it’s in that moment that Levi’s last remaining idealized perception of Erwin slips away, and he’s left only to acknowledge that Erwin is, after all, just a regular man.  He sees, exposed fully for the first time, Erwin’s frailty and weakness as a human being, his faults and shortcomings.  How, in many ways, Erwin is still like a child, longing to right the wrongs of his father’s death, to give his father redemption by proving him right, driven by a childish need to enact revenge on those who tortured and killed his father by exposing their lies.  This is what Erwin was a slave to, just like Kenny spoke about, and it’s in that moment that Levi really realizes it for the first time.  That Erwin isn’t above that kind of very base, human compulsion.  Essentially, that Erwin isn’t perfect.  He isn’t all-knowing.  That he doesn’t have a scope of vision beyond everyone else.  That he isn’t a god, or a devil.  He’s just a man.  One who’s been suffering a long time with the burden of his position and the guilt of what’s really driving him.
I think, in that moment then, as the veneer of Erwin’s perfection is stripped away, Levi is forced to face the reality that what he’d believed all this time about Erwin’s “higher existence”, and how that lead him to believe in Erwin being essential to the success of humanity isn’t, actually, true.  I think when Levi realizes that, when he realizes that Erwin was a major piece in them getting where they have so far, and in the success they’ve had, but that he wasn’t ever this unshakable guiding light or perfect, unerring leader that Levi had believed him to be, it also allows Levi to realize that he can let Erwin go, that he can end Erwin’s suffering, and that the Survey Corps, and by extension, humanity, will still be able to go on.  Will still be able to fight, and succeed, even without Erwin there.  He realizes that he can show Erwin mercy, and finally let him rest, without destroying humanity’s chances of survival.  That someone else can step in and lead them there.  Even if Erwin can’t be replaced, they can still function and succeed without him.  It gives Levi the ability to let Erwin go, to give him peace.  He wasn’t going to let Erwin die before because he still believed they absolutely NEEDED him, because, despite Erwin’s motives being selfish in nature, his ability to see a more far ranging vision than anyone else was still intact.  He still, Levi believed, had a superior mind and ability.  But then in Erwin’s most vulnerable, exposed moment here, muttering about his father, Levi saw in Erwin what Kenny had been speaking about, that human obsession and need, that human frailty and fault.  Erwin was no longer the perfect, unerring leader Levi had built him up to be in his mind, was no longer the unshakable presence or force they needed to save humanity.  He was just a man, suffering, in pain and burdened by an awful guilt, and Levi understood in that moment that he could let Erwin go, let Erwin finally have peace, and still the rest of them would be able to continue on.  Hope wouldn’t be lost without Erwin, because Erwin was just one person, one piece in their success, and they could and would find a way without him.

Note
Personally, Levi's monologue in chapter 136 bothered me a lot. There were more important things going on (Eren destroying the world, Levi being severely injured, Armin missing, his best friend dying) yet Isayama chose to focus on the promise. It almost felt like fanservice, and sometimes I wonder if that's all Levi was reduced to, in the end. Sometimes he really did feel like a flat character. Apologies if I sound too negative.
No need to apologize!!!
Reviews that come from the heart - or sincerely - are welcome here!
I suppose your bad experience with distorted ship discourse might be the source of the disappointment over this bit? And if it is, then, srly, whenever you feel like giving a 2nd chance to read it, try to do it forgetting all distorted ship reductions around Levi. His narrative goes so much more than this!!
I'm loving to see these people's reviews over Levi on Twitter: Peter, zeroTakes, shash, and malakeus. I'm sure when Levi gets back as focus in the anime, they will thread nice analysis on him too!!
In the meantime, if you allow me, I will write a bit on the matter of chapter 136 here!
The last time we had an inside of Levi's head moment was on chapter 112. There he is confused, dejected, angry, and in denial with a lot of things: Eren's betrayals; Zackley's death and Pixis surrender + plan to sacrifice Eren; the refusal to kill Eren because so many people had died to save the lil shit and the hopes he was supposedly carry; the 30 days secluded in that damn forest-prison with Zeke carrying out his plan behind his back. Levi is so concerned and utterly conflicted and pissed that he even suggested losing the only fail-safe Paradis had (aka the Rumbling) by feeding Zeke to a traitor Yeagerist until Hisu gave birth and could eat him.
He shared a few words with Hanji in the forest; then Hanji died without them discussing anything regarding the SC again but the "do you think they are watching?". Levi looks between destroyed, barely holding on, and Captain Levi up until 136. His narrative NEEDED his insight on the matters happening more than ever. That's when his monologue comes on point. And while I wrote this answer kinda bitter at the end of aot + Hanji's death, Levi's part still stands as of now for me.
I still love the fact that Levi addresses the vow as Erwin's last order. Isym didn't wrote it by mistake. And more than ever, again, Levi shows he is worried about what it meant the Survey Corps - Humanity’s supposedly Wings of Freedom. This is Isym using Levi - the most OP and why not to say beloved character of snk! - to AGAIN shut up the last people still insisting that The Rumbling was the right path. Or that Erwin and the vets would have supported it (srly, some people just don't get it even it being rubbed at their faces 🤦‍♀️).
I also love that this monologue also answers Levi's questions of chapter 112 - what was that hope we were looking at? Eren, the monster? The Devil? To which now Levi says, "No! I entrusted the future to the ones like Armin...". And while shippers tend to argue about the eyes representing Erwin in a romantic way, if you go to chapter 84, you will see Erwin's eyes looks free, imo. And all Levi ever wanted for everyone since ever was to conquer freedom for them.
The only thing I still feel kinda... unsatisfied with is the translation of the sentences/panels related to Hanji. Levi clearly is doing a parallel between her and Armin. And the WHOLE story can clearly tell why is that at this point - their personalities, their enchantment over the world, over life, their power to inspire people in a heartwarming way. I swear, I can totally see Hanji having a mind-wonder childhood like Armin too...
Sure, Armin is a gamechanger mastermind up to be on pair with Erwin's determination to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals (from the beginning to chapter 90 we see this all). Armin is definitely the "future generation" snk always talked too. But Erwin's motto, until chapter 134 in Armin's mind, is basically "those who can't give something important to them can't accomplish anything", reminding everyone that Erwin is the symbol of ruthlessness and pragmatism rather than warmth and hope like Hanji.
Tumblr media
And then there isn't a single time Levi remembers again seeing Erwin with free/soft eyes since chapter 84, much less 136. And them, even Erwin has his eyes focused on Hanji in this scene:
Tumblr media
Sure it would be somewhat weird maybe? to see Erwin with softer eyes here, but come on - couldn't he at least show a kinder face or be looking somewhere else than Hanji to make sense of "what they devoted" look less Hanji-centered (and checking Erwin out the "they") than the drawing is clearly point out??? LOL
I know the word in Japanese Kodansha 1st used for "they" is translated not as simply "they" plural, but something like "this person + and people similar to them". And there is an abysmal difference between Erwin and Hanji core narratives. And also, the fact it's Hanji leading the fire camp like Armin leading the talk with Eren and Mika is the clear parallel here imo! So, yeah, this bit puzzles me as to wtf Isym really wanted to do here...
Bonus Pic of Levi almost smiling at Armin's enthusiasm because I love how soft Levi seems to look here - something between "tsk, this brat is a little fool" (lovingly) and "but it would be really good if the world was like this..."
Tumblr media
It would be nice to hear Isym talking about Levi someday...

Until I Fall - Part Ten
Things had gone to shit. There were 20 survivors from the entire expedition and Shadis stepped down as Commander. The Scouts had been nearly obliterated in one day, and the remaining few were beaten, bruised and injured. Levi rested his hands on his knees, his head full of a mixture of sadness, anger and exhaustion. So many people had died, and it was all for naught. They couldn’t even draw the maps without being decimated. He was so tired of having to carry peoples remains home to their families. Why couldn’t everyone just survive?
He looked over at you, sleeping on the bed that he was sitting on the edge of. Your forehead bandaged your body bruised from head to toe. Why did you come after me? He was angry that you’d be so rash. But then again - hadn’t he done the same thing?
“Levi, we need to fallback, there are too many!” Erwin shouted across the field to him. Levi had just slain yet another titan. “Where are the others?” He yelled back to Erwin. “Over in the west at Hange’s post. We will rendezvous back with them closer to the gate!” Levi wasn’t quite certain about that idea. “Captain, I’m going to join them and then head north back to the wall!” He hopped on his horse, ready to find you. “Levi,” Erwin said, “She is safe.” But Levi had let himself be separated from people he cared about before. Unless he saw that you were okay with his own eyes, it didn’t matter. “Erwin,” He replied, “I am going there.”
He found you just in time; the titan had caught you between his legs and you were screaming. The rest was a flash; before he knew it, the thing was dead, and you were nearly crushed and burned by steam. The only thing that seemed to bring him back down to earth from the adrenaline fuelled rage that ran through his body was your embrace. Your body holding his; your skin so warm and wet with blood and rain, it was so nice to feel you that he didn’t mind that you were dirty. The smell of your hair that brushed against his face, it was so nice; it was you. He hadn’t been so close to someone in so long, it felt so good it almost hurt.
Looking down at you now, he just wanted you to wake up from your sleep. You were probably exhausted, physically and mentally and the whole ordeal was insurmountable for anyone to handle. You were still just a rookie out in the field, surely this would be hard for you. He knew what it was like to lose people. It sucked. But each time it seemed to numb him more and more. He only really ever felt the pain of the losses months after; when the sadness rolled through him like a storm. He hoped that the world wouldn’t make you like him. You had so much more lightness to you, he never wanted to see it dim. After awhile he lifted himself off of the bed and went to see Hange.
“Oh, you’re here” They said, seeing Levi step into the doorway. “Don’t sound too excited,” Levi scoffed joined them inside. Hange was sitting at the end of the long table in the meeting room, their hair a mess and papers scattered in front of them. They looked tired, but focused. Everyone’s spirits were down, but Hange still tried to muster the courage to wear a brave face.
“I thought you were with Erwin,” Levi said. Hange stretched her arms out, “No, he’s gone to the interior with the rest of the section commanders. The MP’s and Chief in command want some answers. Plus, Erwin has to take over for Shadis, and plans need to be made.”
Levi sat at the table with them and sighed. He was exhausted, “When Erwin becomes commander, what’s the plan for us?”
“I don’t know,” Hange said resting their hands on their face, “I’m fairly certain that we’ll become captains. I mean, there’s no one else to lead.”
Silence filled the room. They had lost so many people in just one day. Levi didn’t want to think on it anymore; not the scouts, or the deaths or even Erwin for that matter. The halls were empty and quiet and he hated it.
“What’s all of this, four eyes?” He said, gesturing to the scattered papers; it was the Scout’s data on titans. He scanned the sheets in confusion. Hange blushed and let out a laugh, “Oh, nothing! I just have a little idea about something! I’ll tell you when Erwin gets back!” Levi knew that they were lying. This was definitely not a ‘little’ idea, but he couldn’t even begin to imagine what Hange was thinking.
“Levi, is Azeria awake yet?” They asked. Levi looked down at the table, “Not yet,” he replied, the tiredness and sadness sinking him further into the seat, “She has a concussion, I’m sure she’ll be sleeping for a little longer. Besides, she’s probably exhausted.”
Hange smiled, “I’ll bet, she took down four titans today. That’s a lot to handle on her second ride out.” He let out a feigned laugh, “Yeah, she probably isn’t in a rush to get back out there.”
“At least this recent defeat will give us some time off,” They paused, their face turning from optimism to sadness again, “This was a tough loss.”
Levi frowned, “Yeah.”
The room was still, and like most of the Scout HQ, silence filled the room like lingering perfume. How long would it take to have these halls filled with noise? How could they ever replace their comrades? After a while, Levi lifted himself from the table. “I’m going to make some tea,” he adjusted his shirt, “do you want some?”
Hange offered a smile. “No thank you, I appreciate it.”
He wandered into the kitchen to make his tea, rubbing the space between his eyebrows with frustration and lost in thought. Captain Levi? That’s fucking ridiculous. How in the hell did he even get here? Sometimes it felt like life just happened to him. There were choices to be made, sure; but everything always seemed to come barreling at him head on. Did he even have a choice in the matter? He’d need to become a captain. Erwin would need to make that a promise to the MP’s and Chief. He’d need the scouts strongest soldier to lead. How did he always end up in this place? Running some kind of play seemed to come naturally to him. But even through all of the success he had; sometimes he wondered what it would be like to just be normal. Nothing in his life had ever been normal; who the fuck throws themselves at titans for a living? But he couldn’t quit. He’d never leave. Because in spite of the envy he had for those who never had to worry; he had finally found a place in the world that he would be useful in. All of those ugly years of living in the dank basements of the elite had led him here. And even if his life was still full of the horrors of this world, deep down he believe that maybe there was something beautiful waiting for him on the horizon. Maybe he could take all of this filth and make it something nice for others. Besides, in life we’re all given what we can handle.
The kettle boiled and he poured the hot water into his cup, watching the dried leaves unfold and turn the water dark. He looked and it and frowned. Tsk. Idiot he muttered to himself, shaking his head as he grabbed an extra cup. He made the same tea in the new cup. Why was he doing this? He was so annoyed at himself. I don’t have time for this, he thought. Still, he carried the cups back to your dorm where you were sleeping. He placed your tea on the floor next to your bed and pulled up a chair to sit. Why was he back? He had so many things to do, why did he keep coming in to check on you? Maybe that was it. Maybe he just wanted to not think about the rest of the world for a minute. About the dying and injured soldiers he should be visiting. About the inventory scouts who would want a full list of items lost. He didn’t want to think about the veterinarians who would be furious and handing him bills in the absence of Erwin, or all of the broken hearted parents demanding answers from the scouts. In here, in your empty dorm room with you soundly sleeping, he could close the door and shut out the world for just a few more minutes. He just wanted a few more minutes of peace. He wanted a few more minutes with you.
“Mmpff,” You groaned, rolling on to your side, face in a wince. “Ow,” you let out flatly. He was relieved to finally see you awake.
“Rise and shine, princess,” He remarked sarcastically. You were trying to stretch but your bruises seemed to hurt you when you moved. He watched as you lifted your arms and stretched out your toes, causing your shirt to lift a little. In your cotton under shirt and pants, he could see all of the curves of your body; the shape of your hips and the lines on your abs. He tried not to look at you; his heart fluttered and his cheeks were hot. You’re fucking gorgeous, he thought, but just as soon as the thought came into his head, he pushed it down. He didn’t have time for this. He shouldn’t feel this way.
Your eyes finally opened and stared out to the window. He knew that look; the bewildered and lost face on every soldier whose been through hell and manages to survive. The recollection of what happened after adrenaline finally wears off and you come-to, trying to comprehend what is real. You took deep hard breaths. Panic was common, too. Your searching face finally calmed and you rubbed your eyes and groaned, “I feel like shit.” Levi smiled, “You look like shit.”
“What happened?”
“We got back. The good news is that Erwins Signal guns work, bad news is that we’re almost the only people that survived. Shadis stepped down as commander and now Erwin is heading to the capital explaining how shit hit the fan so fast. Most of the survivors are injured at the infirmary. All Scouts are on hold from duty until Erwin gets back. Congrats, brat, you’re on involuntary vacation now,” Levi sipped his tea. Your eyes widened as he told you.
“Twenty? That means-“
“-yeah” he cut you off. Just don’t say it, Azeria.
“Oh,” you frowned. The air filled again with that same stale silence. Your tear filled eyes were full of shock. Please don’t become like me, Levi thought. He looked at you and your broken heart. Long ago he used to feel that way when these things happened. Now it was like a dull bruise. Always lingering. Your pain was like a cut, it was fresh and bloody but maybe it would get better one day. He hated the thought of you becoming calloused like Erwin, like Hange, like himself. He hated telling you. He hated being the one to deliver the news.
“Here,” he said, handing you the cup of tea, “drink this. It will make you feel better.” You blinked away the tears and wiped your eyes. “Thank you,” you said reaching for the cup. Your voice was small. The two of you sat there for a few minutes as you both drank your tea in silence. Slowly, you calmed down a bit, which made Levi feel a lot better.
“Why is my head bandaged,” you finally asked, running your hand along the cloth. “When I killed that titan that grabbed you, you took quite the fall and hit your head pretty hard. Medics think its a concussion. It’ll go away but you’re probably going to be a little sore and slow for a while. No more recklessly risking your life for the next few weeks,” Levi could see that you were embarrassed from the whole ordeal. Your face turned pink and suddenly your eyes were full of tears again.
“I’m sorry for being stupid,” You said, voice cracking, “I should have just obeyed commands. I was just worried.” Azeria please don’t talk like that. Don’t worry about me, Levi thought.
“Hey brat, enough with the apologies. You just did what you thought was right. No need to feel bad about it,” Levi was trying to get you to calm down. You wiped your eyes, “Okay. Thank you,” you paused and let out a sad sigh, “I can’t believe they’re all gone.”
He frowned, letting his eyes slip into the sadness with you, “I know. They were good people,” there was a silenced that filled the air. You reached out and grabbed his hand with yours, tears falling down your face, “It’s not fair,” you huffed. You looked so small in that moment. He just wanted to hold you again. Instead, he squeezed your hand back, “We wont let them die in vain,” He said. You nodded. The tears fell out of you still, the pain was a fresh wound. You tucked your knees into your chest and hid your face. All Levi could see was your back moving with each breath, watching you try to calm yourself from the pain. All he could seem to do was hold your hand through it.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to cry so much,” You sniffled, your face red and wet with tears, “It just wont stop.” He rubbed the top of your hand with his thumb he had no idea what to say, he wasn’t good at this. “Its okay. It’s not easy. It never is.” Slowly your eyes finally dried and you let out a sigh of relief.
You still looked sad, and Levi wasn’t happy about it, “Hey, did you know that you killed four titans? What do you think you’re doing, trying to make me look bad like that. I’ve got a reputation to uphold.”
That made you smile, which made him smile, too. He nudged your arm, “Annoying brat.”
“Someone’s gotta humble you,” You said with a smirk. Your eyes both locked in that happy melancholic gaze, your nose and cheeks still red from sadness. What else can you do when things go to shit? He didn’t what to deal with the rest of it, he just wanted to shoot the shit with you.
You turned your body and sat on the edge of the bed, moving carefully to not shock your sore joints. “So, what happens now?” You asked. Levi sighed. He didn’t really know.
“Erwin will become commander and we will have to restructure once we get back on our feet. For now; I guess we wait.”

snk 138 is nothing but PAIN </3 could you drop alternative headcanons please 🤲🤲
Levi sat down on his porch, holding a warm mug of tea in his hands. Sunlight wrapped around his body like a hug, the cool breeze softly ruffled his hair and left cool kisses on his face—sweet relief in the summer heat. “Thanks, Hange,” he thought. He pressed his fingers up to his face, feeling the soft, smooth fabric of her eye patch covering his right eye and smiled.
He always felt like she was still around—little acts of nature like this made him feel she really was watching over him, like she was still at his side, and he felt a little less lonely. No, he was never alone. He might be living in this little cabin in the woods by himself, but the kids always came by to visit.
Connie and Niccolo never failed to bring him delicious meals. He could always tell which ones Connie cooked and easily preferred Niccolo’s dishes, but Connie was getting better at it so he couldn’t complain. Niccolo was a good teacher after all.
Oddly enough, he found a quiet friendship with Pieck. She’d come by to visit and bring little sweets for them to share. They’d sit quietly together listening to music on a small Marleyan record player gifted to him and Hange one day many years ago. He accrued quite a large music library of sorts, a new little hobby of his since he moved into the cabin.
Jean finally won Mikasa’s heart after all these years. Levi was a bit surprised at this, but he remembered Hange always telling him that she’d been giving Jean advice with how to win the heart of an Ackerman. He grumbled a bit whenever he remembered this, annoyed that she read him like an open book and now even in death, she succeeded in proving how well she knew him—a hopeless romantic like Jean found happiness with an Ackerman because of her advice. He wondered what she told him—she refused to tell him every time he asked. He thought about this and chuckled to himself whenever Jean and Mikasa would come and drop off their little toddler for him to watch while they were busy. In fact, he looked after their child and Historia’s quite often. When they’d run to him, hands outstretched yelling “Uncle Levi!” he always let himself smile big as they jumped into his embrace. Whenever this happened, the wind whistled by his ears and he swore he heard hints of her voice—Hange teasing him and whispering in his ear about how proud she was that he was finally sharing this endearing side of himself with people other than herself.
One day he was watching over Historia and Mikasa’s toddlers, and he let them run around his home as he sat and pulled a journal from the coffee table. It was a makeshift journal that Onyankopon had bound for him, holding pages he had ripped from Hange’s research notebooks and journals. He had to admit, he was a mess after all the events that occurred, as he sat in the memories and guilt of being the only survivor of his generation. They all began to worry about him when he spiraled into that dark place, but one day Armin decided to gather Hange’s old notebooks and journals and brought them to Levi. At first Levi refused, but Armin insisted he had to flip through some of them. And goddamnit Armin was right— Levi smiled, even laughed as he leafed through the pages. He loved reading her thoughts and notes on titans—her beautiful mind never ceased to amaze him. But what he really loved, was that she wrote little notes about what she was thinking about in between her research. He wildly flipped to find certain dates. Dates marking things like the day they first hung out together, Erwin’s birthdays, the days leading up to when Hange and Petra threw him a surprise birthday party, the days where they spent time taking care of each other after expeditions, everything. Levi was one to remember the exact dates of it all, and he wasn’t disappointed with what he found. She wrote all about him and their friends in the margins, and he ripped out those pages to keep, and Onyankopon surprised him one day having bound them into a journal for him. It helped bring him out of the seemingly endless nightmares he had at the time after all that happened. He reread some of her words every night, and was met with restful, dreamless sleep. She wasn’t even on this earth anymore yet she was still saving him.
The two toddlers suddenly jumped up onto his lap breaking him out of his trance. “Uncle Levi, can you please tell us a story??” they chimed together, staring at him with cute little puppy-dog eyes. Levi was taken aback, and knew he’d be bad at this but he couldn’t refuse them. He nodded.
“Yay!!!” They yelled in unison. They both sat on either side of him on the couch and stared up at him with eager eyes.
Levi thought for a little bit, and began to speak:
“Once upon a time there were two best friends. They were the strongest heroes everyone knew. They climbed giant walls and looked at the vast lands in front of them from the top of it, knowing it’d all be theirs once they defeated the big, bad titans!”
The two kids gasped, and Levi tried not to laugh.
“Yes, they’d jump around climbing the necks of the big bad titans and would...” He should probably not say they slashed them up right?”
“They jumped on their necks and cast a spell and they’d disappear! They did this for many years until all of them were finally gone. The two best friends were happy and searched for more land to see and explore until they found the big blue ocean. Water that was salty and laid home to many creatures both friendly and dangerous. Now there were more bad guys on the other side of the ocean but they were a little different than titans, and they looked like you and me so it was much harder to defeat them. So the two best friends tried to find a way to win. They went on adventures together trying to figure out their secrets until they almost died trying to do that.”
Levi hesitated.
“And one day one of the best friends asked the other if they wanted to live in the forest together, and leave their younger, smart and powerful comrades to defeat the bad guys. And the other best friend said yes. Their comrades won the battle and the two best friends lived happily ever after in the forest. The end.”
“That was a horrible story to tell kids, wasn’t it?” he thought. He was ready to see their confused looks but was surprised at what he saw.
He looked down at the two children, who nuzzled their heads into his lap and were now fast asleep. Jean’s kid snored loudly and drooled over his pants, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. “Oh Hange, I wish you could be here too...” Levi said aloud. He felt tears well up behind his eyes but he blinked them away.
His mind went to the last page of his book of Hange’s notes:
“I hope Levi could live a long life and be happy for the rest of his days. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing him experience happiness behind his dumb scowl. And Levi if you come across this someday, remember that I love you and goddammit try to smile or something in front of someone other than me!”
Levi of course memorized these words, and repeated them in his head as he ran his fingers softly through the children’s hair as they slept.
“Stupid four-eyes,” he thought. He breathed in memories of her and promised he’d try to live the rest of his days happily and smiling just as she wished for him.
