#this is my honest read on that scene from eddie's perspective:

the thing about when people say “oh, eddie was just comforting chrissy because he’s such a good guy” or even “his first response to seeing a girl in distress was to make her feel better hes so scrunkly!” is like.... that’s just not what happened there. eddie’s first response to chrissy’s visible distress was to be defensive and haughty. he thought she was scared of him, and it hurt his feewings, so he was brusque and then tried to bail completely. he had a very “sorry to be an imposition >:(” energy.
it wasn’t until chrissy reassured him that he wasn’t the problem, and beyond that, asked him to stay, that eddie relaxed. i love eddie a lot, but it was chrissy who was instinctually kind and empathetic here. she was the one who put her trust in a relative stranger, one most of her peers mock and judge and even fear. maybe he was her only option to get drugs, but she chose to open up to him and be vulnerable. he just reciprocated.

oh I would adore a Steve-pov from nothing but the dead and dying! love it love it love it! talk to me about whichever scene is crying loudest? pretty please! <3
thank you for indulging me lol ❤️
so the thing is, i knew from the beginning that the fic needed to be from Eddie’s pov & not just because Steve is um “off-screen” for a bit shall we say 💔. but because i found that Eddie’s internal thoughts are at times unflinchingly, painfully honest, but Steve… he lies a lot to himself.
& to be honest, especially in the first chapter, he’s in so much pain that his thoughts are way too disjointed for an extended pov scene like i do with Eddie—so a lot of steve’s perspective i was imagining very visually, you know? like Eddie hears Steve’s reaction to seeing the clock, but he doesn’t see it, doesn’t see the very first moment that Steve notices the clock in the road. like there’s a horrible, horrible few moments of Steve facing that alone, just before he says, “Shit,” & he goes through all stages of grief before landing on acceptance in a matter of seconds.
as vecna’s curse worsens, i was also imagining this very shaky like first person camera pov, especially when Dustin confronts Steve in his bedroom, says, “I hate you.” Steve is trying so, so hard to keep it together while there’s all sorts of nightmarish visuals going on around him—like, this upside down red tint to everything, things warping as he searches for his tape, (like he can hear what Dustin is actually saying but he can also hear competing with that, vecna’s insidious spin on that, voicing all of Steve’s fears that he cannot keep Dustin, cannot keep any of them safe); the walls closing in… but whenever he looks at Eddie, all of that fades away, even for just a moment—especially in that scene of them alone in the rv, where Eddie takes steve’s hand to help pull him up to standing.
(that being said, while i don’t have Steve’s pov in the same format as Eddie’s, you can absolutely ask “what were steve’s thoughts when x” & i will most likely have some sort of rambly answer)
if you’ve read this far & would like more emotional turmoil as a reward, the songs i have in my head for Steve’s death scene are of course when it’s cold I’d like to die & Peter Gabriel’s heroes when we transition to travelling to the hospital etc (with the sound of everyone speaking & screaming removed to represent Eddie’s horror & temporarily “blacking out” the memory of everything)
request some “dvd fic commentary”

(🤩Writing q&a ask thingy haha.🤩)
hi hi! thanks for being curious/caring, friend.
8. pairing you wrote the most this year?
steddie! (steve harrington/eddie munson) but i'll be honest, i probably spent more time this year reading and imagining stories about narlie (nick nelson/charlie spring). they will definitely be my writing focus in the new year!
9. favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
after the last of us season finale, i wrote a very short fic that explored the differing perspectives of ellie and joel where the finale episode ended. it was out of my comfort zone in terms of fanfic writing, but i love how it turned out.
18. the character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
maybe steve harrington from stranger things ? or joel miller from tlou... maintaining their essence felt so important to keep in mind! i didn't want them to get lost in my words.
27. what do you listen to while writing?
it depends! i try to listen to what feels fitting to the story/world or what the character might listen to. i put on the video game/tv show score for tlou, dio/black sabbath, etc. when writing from eddie munson's perspective, and the intense score music when writing battle scenes and what not!
29. favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
maybe this from my super short tlou fic:
"Joel never wanted to save the world. Never had hope that the world could even be saved. But he did save her. And if the only world where Ellie is still here, still his, is one that is ravaged by violence and decay, he has no desire to reform or restore it.
She is his world now, his baby girl."
ahhhh! this was fun to reflect on. thanks for askingggg, @rainbowskittle.

hi hi hi, i adore "i never did believe in miracles". i just realized you linked your tumblr. if you're still doing the author asks, i would love 7/11 :)
7. how you choose POV
11. your top 3 fics rn
xoxoxoxo
ahhh, hi!! and thank you so much!!
7. how i choose POV
now that is a complicated question. sometimes it's down to simple necessity, ie. who's actually in the scene, who has the information that needs to be conveyed, who has the issue or impetus that's going to move the plot forward, etc. and for scenes/chapters where it could work from both/several perspectives, i guess i kind of just go based on vibes? or whoever's perspective would be better suited for/more relevant to the moment or whoever's reaction/commentary i want at certain points (or honestly, whoever's perspective will be easier for me, like the dnd chapter is one hundred percent only from Steve's pov because i'm clueless about dnd and so is he lol). a lot of the time, it comes down to the fact that i scribble out the bones of the pivotal or important scenes from a chapter way way way in advance or i jot down little sections of internal monologue that occasionally pop into my head, and i just go with whichever pov comes naturally? like if i have an idea of 'oh, i can have Steve think this during this scene' or 'i can have Eddie make this joke during that scene' and i have that sitting in the back of my mind for a while, that tends to make the pov decision for me. that or i just get a craving to write a certain pov to see if i can do it (ie, the wayne, robin, & dustin chapters)
11. top 3 fics at the moment
well, to be honest, aside from a few short one-shots/ficlets, i haven't read much of anything since like...december because i was worried about like subconsciously stealing concepts from other writers and i didn't want to (inevitably) compare my work to others, but that being said, i guess i could list a few shorter ones that i enjoyed recently!!
Every Single Time by AidaRonan was a really sweet little piece, very cozy and appropriately disdainful of hemingway
i really enjoyed alone again, or by 96tears, a lovely take on a (slightly) older steve and eddie
and i'm quite far behind, but Steve Harrington's Radical Fun Time Babysitting Service by Humanities_Handbag & Invader_Sam was a romp when i last checked in
thanks again!!

hi again!! thanks for your response to my last ask :)
i just finished 5x04 and 5x05, yesterday, currently on 5x06, and if i'm being honest? the infamous Punch™️ incident rly surprised me because of how well done and complex it was. based on fandom reactions to that scene, i rly expected something more flimsy or done just for the sake of drama, but instead i found myself empathizing with both chimney and buck in that scene. kenneth choi's portrayal of chimney's slow spiral of despair was fantastic, and it seemed so believable that he would snap like that. i couldn't fault him at all, and i'm so glad that i got to watch that episode and draw my own conclusion about that storyline, just like you said.
i think you're right, and going forward i'm going to ignore most of what the fandom says (and what showrunners/actors say) bc the canon text of the show is so great and deserves so much more credit than people are willing to give it. i'm liking 5A a lot so far and i don't want to let outside opinions ruin something that i like so much.
as for the buddie of it all, i'd never want to reduce the show to just the two of them! i rly like all of the characters and relationships on 911 aside from eddieana and BT, especially bobby, athena, and bathena, and last time i only asked because i wanted to know if there was a shot at the relationship going canon given the increasingly non-platonic nature of their scenes. i didn't mean to imply that they were the only reason someone would want to watch the show, sorry if it came across that way 😅 i love the show for all that it is, and even if buddie never went canon i still would have that same love for it. i was just rly confused because it seemed like it was written as the type of relationship that was headed toward being canon.
P.S. i love your blog! i rly enjoy reading your takes on all of these amazing characters and i think you make such beautiful gifs! hope you have a great rest of your day ❤
— NewTo911Anon
hi! you're completely right about 5x04, the punch scene™ was very well done, but is unfortunately constantly blown out of proportion by Certain people who already hated chim and just took this as an excuse to turn him into this evil abuser—which he is definitely not. but their dynamic that entire episode was very good, and you could definitely see both sides, and there's plenty of nuance there that people simply refuse to see
i'm rly glad you're enjoying 5A! there's so much unnecessary hatred towards it, but it's actually a lot better than people give it credit for, especially with the added perspective of how 5B goes down. it also contains brawl in cell block 911 and defend in place which are frankly two of the best episodes on the show which get slept on a lot because ppl make hating 5A their entire personality 🤷🏽‍♀️ but i will always defend it till the day i die lol
it's nice to know that you like the rest of the characters! tbh, it's easier to see the importance and beauty of buck and eddie's relationship only when viewed in the bigger picture of the entire show and all it's dynamics, y'know? so i'm always of the opinion that people focusing entirely on them are completely missing out.
thank you for your kind words, and i hope you stick around! ❤❤

OMG OMG OMG
I just finished RH3 and wow!!!!! I loved it sm I can't wait for the next one!
My fav thing about this series is the relationship the reader has with everyone and I guess I wanted to ask you what your intentions are with the characters in terms of relationships? Like friendships, or more? You've always been so open about your character and their thoughts and feelings I just really wanted to hear more about their thoughts of the ST characters!
Anyways, love love love this series!!
okay but my fav question ever? yes! it's like you know i love to rant about Raining Hellfire
so i wasn't sure how to write this but i guess i'll share a little about each character (below the cut because I feel like I'll go off on a tangent and I don't wanna force people to read this if they don't want to lmao)
Mike, Will, Lucas; i feel like i don't share enough detail about reader's relationship with the boys as much as i do Dustin or Max, but they have a close bond regardless. she's gotten to watch them grow up and so naturally she feels protective over them.
Dustin; since his character has always been open about his thoughts and strived to create connections, him and reader have created this brotherly-sisterly bond. she's always been the first to help him with his new-found theories, and he's always looked up to her in a way only siblings could. they'd do anything for eachother.
El; whilst i haven't managed to delve more into this relationship, Season One really brought into perspective how close they grew. reader immediately felt protective of this girl, often reminded of her sister she left in California. they have a sibling relationship, absolutely, and always keep in touch whenever they can.
Max; i feel like she and reader have the closest bond in my series and not just because they are sisters. considering their childhood, they only ever had eachother. and when reader moved away, it only strengthened that bond in ways neither of them thought possible. even when reader found she was adopted, Max refused to call her anything other than a sister. they will always have eachother's backs and put eachother first.
Nancy; whilst they've had their ups and downs, Nancy is one of reader's best friends for sure. she helped reader through her first years at Hawkins, the bond between them only breaking because of Barb's death. they both have been through so much together and i really feel like they love eachother even when they're broken.
Jonathan; platonic soulmates. i didn't get to have that many scenes with them since Season One, but that never meant they had stopped being friends. in fact, i loved creating this bond between a male and female character that didn't stem from secret crushes or anything like that. they've continuously trusted eachother with their thoughts, and they really do care about eachother.
Robin; she and reader have a lot in common, making it easy to be friends. reader did have a crush on her long before they ever spoke to eachother but considering how close they are now, those feelings of love are very platonic. in fact, their bond strengthened over their tabooed sexualities. they will always support eachother for sure.
Steve; this has always been an interesting one to create. because, in ways, they are soulmates. they know what eachother are thinking, they can always sense when something is wrong. they've had a rocky path but Steve was the first friend reader made when moving to Hawkins. their last years of high school took a toll on their bond, but i was so happy to make their friendship development in Season Two. as for what happened in RH3... who knows. But they love eachother. That's the truth.
Eddie; he was her first true love. reader has always had a hard time allowing herself to be loved, always thinking she didn't deserve it. when she and Eddie started talking, they both knew it was more than friendship and she finally let herself be honest. the only thing that tore them apart in the end was the Upside Down and all the trauma it brought with it. neither of them were to blame, it was a misunderstanding. and the love never left them. reader was always scared to admit her feelings because she hadn't felt love that powerful the way she felt it for him and forced herself to never truly say it. the sweetest thing about this relationship is that they both felt like the 'freaks' of the town, but found solace in eachother and were able to truly be themselves. and i'll be honest, neither of them have been happy since the break up.
bonus: Karen Wheeler; if i didn't mention Karen and reader in this i would hate myself because Karen is very much like the mother reader never really had. she took her into her home and treated her like her own child. she didn't question reader's past or force her to share if she didn't want to. so, yes, i love Karen Wheeler with all my heart, both in the show and in this series.
okay i'm done, thanks for letting me go on this tangent :)

Facts (Improved) (Old Work 8/1/17)
By DeYtH Banger
I have my own theories and conspiracies... and to be honest I feel very outcasty. And to have them means to live by some other type of rules... if you know what's inside the sausage... you won't ANYMORE eat it. Will ya? Probably feeling proud or getting too much hungry... you gonna eat everything - but this is other point and perspective. Knowing too much probably this days is very important but from here I will say that I am in the deep... and it's horrible place, you probably already know from my stories.. . But my mind is fucking screw up. I live with facts, I Like to read, as you know when you read my material its like ideology, dogma not the real stuff the concrete facts but little facts and then piff magic.
So here is the thing I enjoy facts!
1. In 2001, Robin Williams visited the gorilla Koko, who was famous for having learned American Sign Language to communicate.
Williams called their experience together "mind-altering," and said that they "shared something extraordinary: laughter." Robin even managed to get Koko to smile, something her trainer, Dr. Penny Patterson, said she hadn't done since the death of her gorilla companion Michael over six months prior.
2. When Williams appeared on a 2001 episode of Inside the Actors Studio, he made one audience member laugh so hard that they developed a hernia and had to be "taken away in an ambulance" at the end of the show.
7. Patton Oswalt stood silent, motionless, and expressionless for almost three full minutes in the background of a King of Queens scene as a prank.
He apparently forgot about it, but when the scene resurfaced, he called it
"EERIE."
When Richard Pryor hosted Saturday Night Live, NBC executives were nervous that the comedian was "too dangerous" for live television, so they insisted that the broadcast be aired with a five-second delay. This set the standard for live television broadcasts, most of which use a five-to-seven-second delay to this day.
15. At the beginning of his career in the 1980s, Chris Rock made Eddie Murphy laugh during a set at the Comic Strip.
Rock had a deal with the club's manager that if he stacked chairs, he could perform late at night. One night, Murphy asked Rock when he was performing; Rock, stacking chairs, replied that he wasn't scheduled for that night. So Murphy told the manager to put Rock on next, and during his set, Rock could hear Murphy's trademark laugh.
16. Don Rickles brushed off Frank Sinatra on purpose to impress a woman he was on a date with.
When Rickles' date spotted Sinatra in the hotel lounge, she excitedly asked if Rickles knew him. The pair were actually friends, but Rickles talked up their relationship, telling his date that they were like brothers. Then, Rickles privately asked Sinatra to come up to their table and greet him. Sinatra did it, and when he asked how Rickles was, Rickles replied, "Not now, Frank. Can’t you see I’m with somebody?”
20. Jim Gaffigan performed stand-up comedy for the pope.
When Pope Francis visited Philadelphia in 2015, Gaffigan was the only comedian tapped to perform for the "Festival of Families" attended by the pope. Right before he performed, Gaffigan joked that he was waiting for an organizer to apologize to him and explain that they got him mixed up with Stephen Colbert (another famous comedic Catholic).
Here are tips for writing
How to Write Jokes – In Summary
– Find a writing method that works for you.
– Write as much as possible – not every joke has to be good.
– Pay attention to every word, even syllable, as well as the syntax, grammar, rhythm and even the length of pauses in your joke.
– Test material on a live audience – work-in progress nights are perfect for honing your jokes.
– Allow yourself to pursue tangents, ad-lib, interact with audiences when live on stage – you never know where it might take you and what material you may discover.
– Be honest – write about your own opinions and experiences as much as possible – don’t deliver material that doesn’t feel like you.
– Try and connect your material – work on how each jokes fits with the next and the overall set.
– Be succinct – remove anything superfluous from your joke until you have the bare bones.
– Constantly refine and rewrite your material.
AN EXTRA SEGMENT
When is about being dumb and without support evidence we could cut it over here. You could stop reading and just enjoy your life.
Have you ever believed in happiness? It’s a chemical reaction is a natural chemicals getting in your head, that’s all chemistry nothing special.
Drugs are just fake aids
Have you Ever been dumb and thought suicidal thoughts will go away? - I have, they never go away they just transform, when you go out you go with suicidal vest
Have you ever believed that white pigeons bring luck or money are made from eggs? - Under eggs I mean scrambled eggs, I have believed in that. So without support of evidence please be dismissed.

Review of Chronicles of The One -trilogy
So, it took me a few weeks to read it all, but I finished the last part of the trilogy, “Rise of Magicks”, today.
I loved the first book, “Year One.”
I liked how, after everything was set to motion by the Macleods, the story focused on three different groups (Lana and Max, Arlys and Fred, Katie and the medics plus the babies) without there being a clear main group. Even after realizing how important Lana and Max were for the whole trilogy and looking back at book one, I didn’t really see them being highlighted, unless you count the end of the book.
Out of those three groups, the whole time my favorite was Arlys’ group. She and Fred, both whom I mistook for guys at first since their names sounded like they belonged to guys and I read a translated version (Finnish language doesn’t have separate words for he and she nor for him and her), simply make a great team. The level headed older sister figure and the bubbly but reliable little sister. And Chuck too, though I like Fred and Arlys more than him. And things got fun when they joined Katie’s group since, you know, Fred and the babies. At first I thought that that would cause trouble if Katie got protective, but looks like that was one thing I didn’t need to worry about.
I liked that, despite the very first group introduced in the story, the Macleod family, dying early on, they weren’t just some disposable characters to start the story and then be completely forgotten; they still had ties to the whole story through Katie and her children.
What I didn’t like was how Shaun, the guy whose family’s mountain cabin Max’s group was at and who got killed by Eric and Allegra in case people forgot, was never really mentioned after his death. I mean, wasn’t he a friend of Kim and Poe? Eddie’s gaming buddy? And I’m not letting Max and Lana off easy, either: they lived with him long enough for him to deserve being remembered.
If I had to name a favorite character from book one, I’d say Arlys, with Fred as a close but still clear second.
As for a favorite scene, that would probably be Max’s group arriving to New Hope.
Book two, “Of Blood And Bone”, while not exactly bad, is not quite as good as the first one.
I was skeptic about the concept of the chosen one from the beginning; it’s a cliche, and there’s a danger of it going too deep down that road. And I think it might have done so here. I’m not a fan of Fallon, and to be honest, not really of anyone else in the Swift family, either.
Instead of Fallon’s training, I preferred the scenes with the people of New Hope. It was good to see Katie’s babies more or less grown up, and believe it or not, I already called the Fred and Eddie -pairing after book one. Well, it was more of a thought of “hey, those two might end up together” than serious analyzing or actually shipping, but they did end up together. With six babies... Max, Rainbow, Angel, the youngest (that had actually been born by the end of the series) had some kind of bird’s name if I remember correctly, but the fifth... no idea. Can someone name all of Fred’s babies? I also predicted Flynn and Starr ending up together, but that one was clearly a miscalculation.
Unlike with book one, where surviving the unknown was the focus, here the battle against darkness was present more, made clearer. And that left me wondering, will we get a perspective from the dark side, perhaps in book three? While reading this one, I wasn’t too worried about the black and white world view, for I thought we’d get some change to that later.
For a favorite character in this book, I suppose that would be Starr.
For favorite scene, it would be Lana’s return to New Hope (even though I don’t like her much) and her reunion with her friends. Mallick and Fallon’s visit to the abandoned and destroyed government facility was a very well written scene, but too dark to be named a favorite.
The final, “The Rise of Magicks” was honestly a bit of a disappointment.
First of all, I’m disappointed that the black and white thinking stuck through the whole trilogy. There was no explaining the opposing side, they were just evil because they were the darkness, the opposite of light, and that’s it. That kind of thinking is more fit for children’s stories... I mean yes, even in real life there are twisted people who enjoy causing destruction for the sake of it, but they are very rare, so explaining the deeds of the dark magic users by simply going “because they’re evil” is really unimpressive. The opposite side should have at least some motive beside being evil. Fortunately, the other two opposing groups did, but since the dark forces were the final boss, I would’ve expected more build up on them.
Also, mermaids/merfolk? They’re first mentioned in book two when Fallon and Mallick go to the destroyed facility at the beach, and after that, they’re mentioned from time to time, even helping the Chosen One and her group, but no one really tells anything about them. Fairies are explained, witches are explained, shape shifters are explained and that one group that Mick was part of, is the English word elf or something, is also explained, but the people who live in the sea are just mentioned from time to time, without explaining what they’re like and what their powers are. Are there only mermaids and mermen with fish fins, or are there some scaled sea creatures with legs? Can they live on land too? Like, can the mermaids switch to legs when they want, or are there some kind of power or time rules to it? Not explaining this is a plot hole!
I expected more death and tragedy for Fallon The Chosen One, who only lost her first friend Mick. That scene was actually well written, coming out of nowhere the way it did, but the aftermath wasn’t, mostly because it wasn’t written at all. One would think that the chosen one re-finding her faith would be worthy of being shown to us, but apparently not. Bluntly put, I’d say that was a mistake. But like I said, I expected more death. Maybe Mallick dying of old age when Fallon still felt like she needed him, maybe Tonia dying due to her wounds, maybe Duncan getting swallowed by the black hole... but nope, Mick remains Fallon’s only big loss (no, we’re not counting Colin’s arm.) I suppose that could count as a surprising point of the plot in itself, though. It’s not fun if it’s so cliche that you can predict everything.
And something completely irrelevant that left a bad taste in my mouth: no one, not Eddie, Poe, Kim or Lana mention Shaun even once in books two or three. Like, what? C’mon, you guys remember your other fallen friends, what about the little nerd who died protecting Kim? I’m very disappointed in you guys.
Favorite characters? Well, that would be a tie between Dragon Queen Vivienne and the leader of those riders that Duncan meets while out, was the name Mera or something, I’m embarrassed not to remember clearly. Too many characters and too little of this one. Honestly though, at first I thought Vivienne would be evil, like maybe a friend of the bad dragon or something. For once, I’m glad to be wrong. Also, Hannah became pretty cool, too.
Favorite scene? ...Don’t know; nothing in this book really hit me the way the first two did. Maybe Max’s brief return.
Finally, what was up with the very end? Happily ever after like a freaking Disney movie...

Bitch!!! (even more affectionate than before) I'm glad that my disorganized ramblings made you happy today. It's so funny, I also have ADHD and was poor while growing up. I was thinking long and hard *giggles* about the whole "how would it work?" with the class difference issues between Eddie and Steve, and to be honest, I think it totally would because Steve is at heart a good person. Even when he was an asshole at school he wasn't really an active bully, his problem was more of the "doing nothing to stop his bully friends", which is still pretty bad, but I think because of his upbringing he was his whole life concerned about how he was perceived. I think during the Ahoy! phase he came very close to reality like you said, he voiced a massive issue like it was not a big deal to someone he (at this point) considered inferior for being in a band. He said to Robin that his daddy was punishing him by forcing him to work (which is such a rich boy thing to say), but he also stated that he has no future, and he completely believes that, which is heartbreaking. He just doesn't know that in the 80's you could be almost anything without a degree, but all of the things he could be good at, are surely discarded as "not real careers" or not important work by his father. He could be a good counselor for troubled kids and so many other things... But getting back to the rich boy issue, I have some good friends that came from wealth, and when they are good at heart, the main issue is that they literally just don't know how other people live. One time a friend asked me if I liked a particular dress that much, and I said "Why do you think I like it so much?" he answered "you always wear the same thing" so I told him "I don't have money to buy more clothes" and he was stunned, like, the thought of someone not having money for clothes never graced his brain, and he immediately apologized. It is annoying to have to explain to grown-ass people the poor's way of life, but when they are good, just ignorant, it's worth it sometimes. Steve is willing to rectify his wrongdoings, always, which is a hard-to-find quality, he apologized to Dustin when he went too far with the teeth joke, he learned a special handshake with him (not related but sweet). He was going to apologize to Jonathan and bought him a new camera... (1/2)
omg. we're both rambling and i love it. i'm going to write out an answer for this one and then address ur second (THOUGHT PROVOKING) message after i take a nap.
i had such a similar thing with a coworker who asked me why i was always rotating the same outfits, and it's like ????? you think i just do this for fun? or one time, a friend said it was gross to rewear an item of clothing before washing it. i would literally run out of clothes so fast if i did that!! and laundromats are the fucking worst. anyway.
all of the things he could be good at, are surely discarded as "not real careers" or not important work by his father.
this makes sense, and there's also the gendered nature of it all - the things steve would probably be good at were probably jobs that were thought of to be for women (i mean this as a compliment to steve).
i do consider steve to have been an active bully in school, his interaction with jonathan is pretty much just that (keep in mind here that i grew up in a small, super white town and was bullied for being gay and ~of colour~ so i have a lot of fun baggage). his friends may have egged him on but ultimately he (the writers) went there. i think that scene would look very different if the writers knew they'd be keeping steve around. i write steve as a reformed bully (good at heart! dickhead in school), cause he was pretty much the ringleader there, but i know others write him differently and i enjoy reading other takes on his character.
with using a narrative lens of steve being bi, it definitely changes perspective because it comes off as steve projecting onto jonathan instead (which is the way i went in the 2nd chapter of we're bending and we're breaking) and makes their whole relationship more nuanced. which, ultimately, is a more interesting way to engage with the show (urgh sorry for meta talk).
cans open, worms... everywhere.

I’m putting this out here when I hadn’t really intended to look at either Tay Kay or Ana in any great detail but the 5x06 and 5x07 episode switch has some people going into unnecessary meltdown and I thought this might help a little because what they’re doing with Tay Kay is the same as they did with Ana from a costuming perspective, but it’s manifesting in the opposite direction (and this is in keeping with their respective characters). It does mean my Chris meta is going to be delayed a little, but it should be out tomorrow! You can read my first meta, my Buck meta and my Eddie meta if you haven’t already by clicking on the links!
I’ll get Ana done first as she’s gone and it’ll show what they’re doing with Tay Kay better
Anas suit shopping dress has a busy pattern - same holds true for dresses as it does for shirts - it’s overly formal for the occasion (remember Eddie isn’t in his own clothes and we see Chris dressed down when there at tge hospital so it’s fair to assume Eddie was similarly attired) and the pattern is busy - showing disordered thinking/ discomfort - Ana knows not all is ok with their relationship and we see the verbal manifestation of this when she claims to be ‘just a friend’
Tumblr media
In the visit to the firehouse the outfit choice is interesting (especially for someone who’s just made a ton of salad!!) it’s incredibly formal. We’re in a blackout and a heatwave, so a pretty and floaty dress would’ve been perfect in this scenario for some one comfortable in their relationship who wants to make a good impression on her boyfriends work family. What we get in reality is a pair of smart black trousers, which, in the dark, make half of her almost disappear and then the uncomfortable interaction she does have with Eddie makes this an interesting and perfect choice - Eddie is only interested in her presence because it brings Chris. The top is, again, patterned, but we’ve moved away from the tiny patterning to something bigger - things are becoming less confused. (This is the best gif of her outfit I could find and let’s be honest, we’d much rather look at Eddie hug Chris any day 🤣)
Tumblr media
The million muffins and messy kitchen scene. This is the most dressed down we’ve ever seen Ana and it’s pretty jarring. Especially when accompanied by all the mess in the kitchen and the multitude of muffins on display (I could go into a whole thing about muffins and euphemisms around the meaning of ‘muffin’ and it not being what Eddie wants, but it’s nsfw 🤣🤣🤣), in theory this should show her as comfortable (at home) when in reality it actually does the opposite, even the casual viewer will pick up that we’ve never seen her dressed down like this. She wears smart outfits that fit with her role as a teacher and she is comfortable in them. The lack of patterning shows Ana knows where this is going. The shade of blue they’ve put her in doesn’t complement either the bright yellow of Chris’s tee, or the green of Eddies (which do complement each other!), yet another indicator that she doesn’t fit.
Tumblr media
Little side note that I found interesting - Ana is dressed in the same colour that she was wearing when Eddie argued with her after Chris fell off the skateboard (it an almost identical shade!!) and also the same colour Chris was in also standing in the same location!) when Eddie told him about Ana - mess in kitchen - hers is much bigger - but while Chris was wearing a marl blue (a mix of blue and grey or white) hers is a solid block of colour - Chris said his piece through his actions but it’s not about him (the grey) - Eddie’s relationship should be about himself, not what he thinks is good for his son.
Throwing in a buddifer gif to break up having to look at Ana and Tay Kay!
Tumblr media
Now on to Tay Kay - she’s becoming progressively more clothed, this is an indicator of her closing herself off rather than becoming more comfortable being in a relationship- almost like she already has one foot out the door, because what do we do when we’re planning on leaving - we out on more clothes!
None of her clothes speak of comfort, she’s not at ease in her own skin in any of the scenarios we’ve seen her in thus far (with the exceptions of when she’s doing her job (which she even does while in her lingerie) - this is telling in and of itself as it shows where her confidence and priorities lie)
First bedroom scene - she’s in sexy black lingerie- in and of itself not that unlikely - the relationship is still fairly new, she’s still making an effort. But what it does speak of is where her intentions where when she got dressed - she knew she was going to Bucks and ergo sex was an expected outcome (buck obviously thought this to as he tries to initiate it!), however she’s so involved in her work she’s never off the clock even when in bed in her lingerie with her bf. This should be jarring to the audience and plant a seed. If the relationship was good and they were both happy with her working in bed etc she’d have been comfortable - one of Bucks t-shirts, a pair of shorts - she could still look sexy and it would’ve cemented her as a fixture in Bucks life. That we don’t get that is very telling from a costume perspective.
Tumblr media
In 5x03 we only see her through a tv screen because she’s at work and I don’t really see the point in commenting on work clothes because generally they’re ‘uniform’ but I think it’s worth noting that they have her in white - like a ghost - absent from the relationship
In 5x05 we get to see her a couple of times, I already spoke about her first outfit so I’m just going to copy and paste it here with a couple of expansions - Interestingly Tay Kay is in pink and with bare arms - she is feminine and comfortable - we are seeing her true self - we are meant to read what she says as truth and subsequently that she doesn’t ‘get’ Buck and his concerns (tellingly her story is actually all about her even though she’s tried to frame it as not being about her). The shade of pink is one associated with, love (either young not fully developed love or the long-standing love of the ages that has mellowed through the passing of time - BT is definitely the former 🤣), children and Barbie - she isn’t mature (when it comes to the give and take of relationships) and is superficial, it makes what she says and her lack of empathy or attempts at understanding Buck and where he’s coming from even more awkward.
Tumblr media
5x05 Tay Kay scene 2 is an interesting one for me - the dress is dressy/ casual and a bit flirty, it’s loose fitting, all of which is suggestive of her not being comfortable (but trying to make herself) with being there for someone else, for doing something nice for someone because you’ve realised you’ve done something or said something wrong. I’m not a Tay Kay fan (as anyone who looks back through my timeline can tell!), but this is some character growth for her and more than they managed for Ana! The thing about this dress though is it’s darker tone of colour it’s a dark denimy blue - much like I said above about Ana - this is the perfect moment to put her in something colourful and show the relationship as confident and happy (like we see with Karen and Maddie), instead we get what is a fairly drab colour and one that has a sheen as well. The sheen is interesting as it makes the fabric look synthetic, silks etc have a sheen to them as well, but their sheen has a different look to it. It’s hard to explain the difference unless you’ve spent your life around fabric, but the sheen looks richer and has a better lustre. All synthetic fabrics are made from plastic and they are cheap, it’s why fast fashion uses them so much. What this sheen serves to highlight is all of what I’ve said above - Tay Kay is uncomfortable (but trying), but she’s also superficial and like fast fashion - not meant to be around too long - wear for a short while then get rid of it as you move onto the next thing (an allegory for buck 1.0 and also for Tay Kay if ever there was 🤣 but that’s the whole point - Buck isn’t Buck 1.0 anymore).
Tumblr media
The final Tay Kay scene of 5x05 really echoes the first scene we see her in this season - yes we’ve upgraded to a top rather than a bra, but it’s still firmly in the sexy nightwear/lingerie category. The black almost blends her into the background (again she is not the most important thing in the scene - Maddie is).
5x06 we have the scene at the end, and not going to lie - I laughed when I saw what she’s wearing because her outfit (including her hair) fits very much into the film trope of what a female spy would look like - anyone else want to play spot the difference?!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accompanied by the script it’s all literally shouting that she’s up to no good - spying and digging for information! It’s her most interesting outfit because it really does say so much about her character and it’s clearly telegraphing where her arc is going - there really hasn’t been that much growth in her personality since dosed - especially since she’s dressed similarly - all in black, they’ve just added in matching her to the film trope of a P.I - in a trench coat
I’m going to be really interested to see what she’s wearing in 5x07 as we know that the episodes have been swapped I wonder if it’s just going to be ‘work Taylor’ or if we’re going to see her out of reporter mode?!!
All of this just serves to show that she’s headed out of the door. Where Ana became more patterned and more dressed down as she became conscious of the problems with her relationship to the point of acceptance that it was over, taylor is the reverse of this - the problems and distance mounts so she doubles down on what’s actually important to her - her career.
Ok I’m done! Here’s hoping I don’t have to dig into Tay Kay for much longer, although I’m not gonna lie, it’s been fun to highlight how much the costuming is doing to add to what the script and direction is doing with showing us her storyline (and how it’s helping Buck grow too, because the difference between s2 Buck and s5 Buck in relationship terms is just vast!!)
Thanks to all the gif makers whose gifs I’ve used, you’re all amazing for making them - im totally useless at that sort of thing 🤣 so I’m forever grateful for the fandoms creativity!

I'm looking at that "Clothes (colors) of 5x13" post again, and having seen the trailer for tonight, yeah, someone in the production chain is playing games with us.
Oh hon, thank you so much for reading my 513 clothes meta! I’m so glad if you found it useful in any way. And TBH, I think production probably knows about us more than we’d like to be aware of, so there might def be some playing games going on there! But I’m always curious to hear more of your perspective and what exactly you had in mind. Hope you’re having a great day! xoxox
And if it’s okay, I’ll add in here another lovely ask -
Hi there, I'm the anon who asked you where you come from (so sorry to hear about that in Israel, I'm from Italy and I've been to your beautiful country few years ago. I hope they will stop with all those wars and I hope you stay safe.) and your fav episode (mine is Eddie begin and definitely 4*14, even if I agreee, yesterday's one is going to be on this list).
Anyway, I wait for your meta like a child waits for Christmas and I was wondering if you could help me  analyze a little bit more the look Eddie gives buck in the heart drawing scene. He looks up and his look is so... Weird. I can't quite gasp what were Ryan's directions tbh. I know you can help me.
No need to help me deciphering bucks look. He's so in love you can probably tell from the moon xD
Thank you and again, love your takes.
Italian anon
Awwwww, hi Italian anon! It’s so lovely to get to meet you! :D I’ve been to your country as well, and it’s one of my faves in the world. The food alone is just... *chef’s kiss* But then I also adore the language and culture. One of my fave movies ever is about falling in love in and with Italy. ;) I’m so happy to hear you’ve enjoyed Israel’s beauty as well, and thank you for the caring and kind words! We’ve had two more rounds of firing into Israel since that last post, and NGL, it’s all very stressful. And the saddest thing is that this is all so redundant, because I have no doubt that most people here want peace and coexistence. But knowing that there are kind people out there who care, that’s amazing and it helps more than you know! *hugs you SO big*
I’m overjoyed to learn that you enjoy my meta posts so much! I’m NGL, they take a lot out of me, so it’s incredible to know that they can bring so much joy to wonderful people like yourself! And ksdfjhskdjfh HOW DID I FORGET TO MENTION 315? It was, together with eps like 309, 413 and 414, one of moments where, when I was watching it live, I was wondering if this is real and not fanfiction, and how are we being blessed with so much goodness? So yes, another reason why I can’t choose just one ep! I love discussing this with you and thank you for sharing your own thoughts on this!
Oh, that’s such a good question! Okay, so at first Eddie is looking at what he thinks is Christopher’s drawing (but is actually Buck’s) and his expression seems to be both fond and a little puzzled:
Tumblr media
But then Buck confesses that it’s his and offers, “I misunderstood the assignment” as an explanation for why his drawing is the one that looks more child-like. Upon hearing this, Eddie looks up from Christopher’s actual (anatomically correct) drawing at Buck like this:
Tumblr media
So I think the first thing is to consider Eddie is teasing Buck with a bit of a judgmental look. I do believe this look contains that to a degree, but it’s not the only thing there, IMO. Otherwise, Eddie might have also added some verbal teasing, because that’s usually been his M.O, he’s never been shy or non-verbal about fondly teasing Buck. But I think there’s also an honest surprise there. Buck’s drawing is sweet and loving and soft, not to mention cute as heck. It’s in a sense such a good representation of the kind of person Buck is, and the kindheartedness and love he has brought into the lives of the Diaz boys. Eddie is shown a physical representation of why no one will ever match him better than Buck will. And maybe for a sec that takes him by surprise or is even a little too much to contain, because Eddie has just returned from therapy, and he’s not exactly in a great place by his own admission after (in his words) having cracked himself open for 50 minutes and having walked out feeling like he was hit by a bus. If in this moment he thinks too closely about what this drawing says about who Buck is and what he means in the Diaz home, Eddie might just have to admit some things to himself. So instead he gives in to his fatigue and expresses his sense of hopelessness:
Tumblr media
Maybe he does it in part to avoid really thinking about what Buck means to him. And maybe he also does it in part because this drawing is a reminder that this is the optimistic man that is there to love and support Eddie, and it’s okay to let go in his presence and confess the biggest, scariest of doubts. Buck’s gonna handle them with that shining love he has, Eddie’s heart is safe in his hands.
I hope this helps, please don’t hesitate to let me know one way or another, Italian anon! xoxox
(I got an influx of asks, I WILL answer all of them, but it might take a sec. If anyone wants to check whether I've already answered theirs or to read my replies, here's my ask tag. Thank you! xoxox)

Hi! I'm a really big fan of you and Roman's work - BHAH is a wonder. I've been following your asks too and I've really loved getting your perspective on characters' motivations and seeing other fans gushing over the same scenes that have kept me up at night.
Maybe the coolest part of all of this has been seeing the differences in how people view Eddie - despite having access to exactly the same information! It's so amazing that your fic has provoked such a wide array of responses from people and it really speaks to humanity with which you've characterized the relationships in BHAH.
From my perspective - as an Eddie fence-sitter - I think the difference between these two camps comes down to what you expect from your friends. Eddie acts perfectly reasonably and with great care for Dani! He clearly wants to make her happy and to be the ONE to make her happy. If she tells him she's fine with something, why on earth shouldn't he take her at face value? How could anyone negatively judge him for that?
That is a very defensible position! Their relationship is still very sad, but it's a sadness where you can't really be upset with anyone.
It seems that for people who dislike Eddie, that just isn't enough! It isn't for Eddie to listen to Dani and try to be a good boyfriend, they expect him to understand her at a deeper level and more proactively look out for her.
On one hand, I'm sympathetic to that. Eddie has known Dani all her life. Shouldn't he have a bit more empathy and understanding for her mental state? It's very revealing that he didn't come over to her home as children, and that he wouldn't stay up late talking to her when she was having a mental breakdown after Jamie left. If I spend too long thinking about this, I will start to dislike Eddie!
But on the other hand, Dani has been telling Eddie that she's fine and she loves him for a decade. There might be valid critiques of Eddie, but ten years without honest communication is something that would fool even the most perceptive, empathetic man in the world.
But on the other hand...
I could really go back and forth all day. In fact, I have gone back and forth all day many, many times LOL
You and Roman have really written a masterpiece, with characters that feel so real and human that different people who are more or less willing to forgive different flaws have different characters they love and hate, and I think that's a beautiful achievement.
gbskljfsdf thank you! god what a great message, it's not often we get such a clear cut and reasonable responses to eddie who we actually love despite his flaws. this really was so refreshing to read, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

hi, i love your writing! i’m afraid this might be a little too personal so if so i apologise! but i know you kind of covered this in some other questions, but i was just curious if you incorporated any of your own experience with adhd into richie’s characterisation in indelicate?
Hi! Not too personal. I know we’d see more of this if the story were from Richie’s perspective (and one of the things I regret about writing Things That Happen After Eddie Lives is that I didn’t think more about Richie’s ADHD when writing his point of view), but I have thought of some things that Eddie might pick up on.
I think that the most obvious things we’ll see (since we’re not in Richie’s head, we’re watching Eddie watch him) is that Richie has some auditory processing issues. It takes Richie a moment or two to run back the tapes and translate the noises Eddie’s making into words, especially because an Eddie without any depressants in his system (like painkillers) speaks very quickly; which means there are moments where Eddie speaks, Richie stares blankly at him, and then Richie responds to what he said. I can’t recall any specific instances where that’s happened, but I know it’s something that I’m currently making note of in the draft, and I have to decide whether it’s going to go into Richie’s outtake or Eddie’s perspective. Eddie and Richie know each other well enough now that Richie has stopped saying “Huh?” to buy himself processing time because it makes Eddie insane when Richie says “huh?” and Eddie starts to repeat himself and Richie interrupts him to respond to the question; but Eddie also gives Richie a little bit of time to play back the audio when Richie stalls out.
(This is based on interactions between me and my brother. We’re both extremely fast-talkers, and we can talk and listen at the same time and don’t understand why other people can’t, which makes us very annoying to talk to in person. But it makes my brother crazy when I mishear him and go “huh?” so instead I’ve started repeating what I heard him say and giving him the opportunity to clarify. Example: “I saw two Japanese nuns at the airport.” “You slapped two Japanese nuns at the airport?!” “I SAW two Japanese nuns at the airport.” “Oh...”
(Unfortunately, in a written medium, those little slipups are more difficult to convey. Realistic dialogue reads very unrealistically, and while I try to be authentic about putting in vocal tics, verbal pauses, and dialogue repetition, the joke just doesn’t come off the same when I’ve typed it out.)
Since Richie is the man of a thousand voices, I also gave him a little bit of echolalia. I’m honestly not sure if this is a typical ADHD symptom or an autism spectrum symptom, but even now Richie talks to himself, does voices, and plays with every sound like it’s a new toy (Animorphs quote). I figure that’s part of his creative process when he’s writing his own material, but him singing to himself, pulling voices without being aware of it--Richie is almost never quiet. Even when he’s in Eddie’s hospital room, choosing to be quiet so Eddie can sleep, he’s still talking to himself. He just doesn’t do it out loud, but when Eddie wakes up he sees Richie talking with his hands.
The other big thing is that Indelicate!Richie is on his phone basically all the time. Eddie doesn’t know to what degree Richie’s currently avoiding his professional responsibilities (answer: to an absolute degree, meaning almost entirely, because I’ve given Richie my avoidant personality), but Richie is basically constantly on his phone, even when the television is on, because Eddie is very sleepy as he recovers and Richie has a dopamine-producing little machine in his pocket at all times and he’s addicted to phone games. I know recently I’ve written a lot of Eddie being sleepy and cuddly, but Richie just cannot sit still for that long even when he’s charmed by how cute and cuddly sleepy Eddie is. I know someone made lovely fanart of one of the cuddling scenes, where Eddie’s pressed up to Richie’s chest and Richie has his phone behind Eddie’s head so he doesn’t crawl out of his skin while Eddie’s sleeping.
I know that I mentioned some of the rejection-sensitive dysphoria in the content warnings for one of the chapters (because my god my rejection-sensitive dysphoria was crippling when I was younger). Otherwise I don’t really want to take credit for things that haven’t made it onto the page (and I know that the auditory processing thing is one of them we might not see much of, but I promise it’s something I’m thinking about as I write all of this talking back and forth). Otherwise I have Richie have an inverse response to caffeine, which is why he’s constantly self-medicating and still manages to take long naps with Eddie, and I think I mentioned the first time Richie had coffee as a teenager and fell asleep on Ben’s floor, which is something that I did with my best friend back in high school. And I also think that Richie, being intelligent and self-loathing, is extremely prone to ruminating, and he has ample opportunity to do that while Eddie is either off-screen or unconscious, so that’s aggravating his communication issues with Eddie--but we don’t really see much of his thought spirals in Indelicate.
I also think that Richie has mellowed out significantly now that he’s in his forties; I noticed distinct shifts in my behavior once I turned thirteen and then again once I went to college and was given more autonomy and less regulation, and now a lot of people don’t know I have ADHD unless I’m living with them. I did mention Eddie being made to sit through the Amazing Ricardo’s performances, though, and Richie coping very badly when his performance started to go downhill; for like the first twelve years of my life whenever things didn’t go my way (i.e., I was eight and didn’t have the dexterity for origami, or I dropped a pen into the crack between a wall and a piece of furniture at a restaurant) I really handled things very poorly, and it was just as awkward for all witnesses as it was for Eddie, Stan, and Bill in Richie’s audience.
I have another fic in the drafting stage where established-relationship married Richie and Eddie have had to negotiate careful storage systems for things like keys because Richie has clutter blindness but he does get background stress from interrupted fields of vision and then he’ll melt down when trying to do something mundane like go the airport or find the air mattress--which has been a lot of my quarantine year so far, to be honest--but because Richie’s in an unfamiliar space and Ben’s space is just so weird I think some of the background information is still novel enough that he’s still seeing it.
Again, I don’t want to take credit for things that aren’t really on the page, and since this is an Eddie-focused story Eddie isn’t necessarily aware of everything that’s happening on Richie’s end, but I promise that Richie with ADHD is near and dear to my heart and it definitely informs his characterization.

The Haunting of Beatrix Greene - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The perfect book to read on Halloween! This book, while short, was an incredible experience. It is under historical fiction, something I don't read often, but after reading the summary, I just had to make an exception!
I didn't have high expectations, I just really wanted to read it and honestly, it blew me away. In just 111 pages, it had incredible backstory, full-blown characters with unique personalities, amazing description, a horrifying tale of ghosts, and in the middle of all that, a beautiful love story that comes out of no where but fits so well! I loved everything about this book, even the things I didn't like per say, went together so well with the story and the epilogue, that it made sense that the plot had to flow in the direction it did. The writing style was really good, the pace of the story is steady and consistent throughout. The story is not long, but so well-written and narrated by multiple characters, it gives different perspectives on particular scenes, which makes the book feel expansive and more interactive.
The horror part of the story was also done quite well. I was well and truly terrified and will probably remain that way for a few days. The anguish in the backstory, the true evil that pervaded that manor has left an impression and it might result in some nightmares..!! My personal interpretation of the evil is that it is the patriarchy. The way it was written, the way a man can become warped and sharp and insidious so easily.. drugged with power and the desire to instill fear unto others and dictate and live on unchallenged and unquestioned. A perfect definition of the patriarchy. The fact that it is defeated by a woman; so fitting and so perfect. A woman resolves to fight it, strengthened by her resolve and decision, powerful because of the support of other victims, able to manifest an energy so Great that it sidelines the evil so easily. Perhaps the author did not intend for it to be seen this way, but I couldn't help but read into this and delve into a meaning I find settles into the story so well.
I highly recommend this book to people who love horror, ghost stories, happy endings, spirits, historical fiction, or romance. This book abides by the ideal that love conquers all and it does a brilliant job of showcasing that. This book might not be for the faint of heart or those who are easily spooked. (I say this from personal experience!)
(Parts of this book reminded me of Halloween movies that I watched as a kid; such as; Twitches, Twitches Too, and The Haunted Mansion with Eddy Murphy.)
On the whole, I really loved reading this book and I'm so glad I got to!
*Thank you to the publishers; Serial Box, the authors; Rachel Hawkins, Ash Parsons, Vicky Alvear Shecter, and Netgalley for my free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review!

The Latest in my S3 watch of House of Anubis:
I apologise because it turns into a mini Joy essay, which honestly surprised me myself. Just to sum up beforehand, I don’t hate her, nor do I love her or think she’s a fave (and I’ve firmly been Team Nina and Fabina) but Klariza is charismatic actress that made Joy compelling to watch in S2 and turned a character that could easily just have been bitchy, bitter and have her actions driven by selfish and immature reasons, but made Joy complex (especially the latter half of S2 where you see the Joy no one else sees)
Season 3 Thoughts:
- It’s just not the same without Nina. This has nothing to do with the quality of the show, I’ve watched countless of shows that goes bad and they keep their originals characters or have replacement characters. So far, this is not one of them. But Nina (despite the question acting from Nathalia) was the heart of the show, Nina and Fabina. Hell even Amber, that trio were the heart of it all. It just feels like something is missing.
- Also I think another reason why Nina’s exit hurt the show is not only was she the lead and part of the heart of the show, but she was also the audience’s window into the world of House of Anubis and Sibuna. We very much watched the show from her perspective.
- Still don’t like how they handled her exit, I think it could be handled better. I just hate the Osirian/Chosen One excuse because it makes no sense because of what we learn in S2 and what we saw of Sarah and Rufus in S1. And we got no explanation on it, I wish they explained how and why.
- I still have my own version on how they could have explained her exit better.
- Amfie have my heart, like they are a couple in real life that probably wouldn’t work or be together but they are also cute and entertaining to watch. Ana and Alex have chemistry that makes Alfie and Amber rootable.
- Joy gets some of the worse writing. Well at least inconsistent writing. In S1, she doesn’t have much of a personality because of the storyline. But she is conveyed as a innocent, good, popular student. I got this because everyone loved Joy as well as the title sequence, her pose and body language conveys good girl. Then in S2, she was thrown into the love triangle - and I didn’t hate her, but I disliked her because of Team Fabina, but she was also fun to watch and made things interesting. Especially in the middle and near the end. I think in the beginning Joy was a bit hit or miss because everyone knew who their character was and the dynamics and Klariza was essentially playing a new character, coming in fresh etc. So in the beginning she felt less like a character still and a bit caricature in her behaviour regarding Fabina, but as time went on, she became her own, sneaky and slightly devious. It was a refreshing dynamic to add to the Anubis House and explains Joy and Patricia’s friendship. Patricia = Sneaky on the outside, soft on the inside lol (considering her loyalty) then Joy = Soft/Innocent on the outside, sneaky on the inside. Regarding Joy’s characterisation in S2, it could be interpreted in many ways, one is a result of what happened in S1, which I think many assume because she outright blames Nina for coming in and ‘stealing’ Fabian and her friends.
- However, I choose that Joy has always been like that but it wasn’t common knowledge because Joy has never felt threatened by any of the residents. Especially if you assume that they were all in Anubis House since the first day of Year 7, when they started Secondary School, they are like a family, so she struggled with outsiders, especially ones that came while she was gone. Plus, to me, saying she was always like this makes her more interesting and complex in my head.
- Still on Joy but making another point to spread it out a bit. In S3, she’s more mellow compared to S2, and what’s frustrating for me is that I want to know if this was how Joy would still be if Nina returned or not. Now she doesn’t have a rival, we seem to see the Joy you hear about in S1, the Joy that friends see. But anyway, I say she gets inconsistent writing because she very much wants to belong, she wants to be in Sibuna, we saw this in S2 because she never got the support she wanted from Sibuna who knew the truth (they wanted to move on) and both sides just generally didn’t want to talk about it (even though I think Joy did), at the end of the season, Shea excited and happy to be in Sibuna, she wants to save Nina, she’s accepted Fabina and realised that Fabian just wants to be friends and at the end she hugs Nina, suggesting a beginning of a friendship, and then less than 5 seconds after Fabian reading Nina’s letter, she’s already trying to move in. Now I don’t like this, because I think Joy needs to move on, it’s healthier for her, but also I think any girl knows timing is everything. She saw the Fabina bond in S2, he wouldn’t move on 5 minutes later. Maybe it was pacing issues? Like they want to brush it under the rug now and move onto other subplots?
- But also another thing I didn’t like was how she quit Sibuna because Fabian rejected her. Now this is more the feminist in me I suppose. Because her wanting to be a part of Sibuna was the same reason as Jerome, they both wanted to belong. When she was crying at times in S2, it wasn’t because of Fabian (all the time) but it was how this small pack, that was aware of what happened in S1 were keeping to themeselves, doing their own thing and not telling anyone. I think they should have played up the danger aspects more or the school work, final year more. Because those are valid reasons. I think the problem with this is that at the end of the season they have more people involved in Sibuna and then at the beginning they have to inexplicably cut it down because too many people know or are a part of it and either a) They don’t know how to handle too many people in Sibuna, i.e. finding them all a role and purpose, no one floundering or b) They prefer Sibuna smaller and not everyone aware to keep the secret group and sneaking about aspect more, to add suspense etc.
- But also another reason why I sat Joy’s writing is inconsistent is that we can say Joy is more calm in S3 because Nina has left (I will always bring up and be bitter about how we get no Joy/Nina in S3 because I want to now if we would have got S3 Joy or S2 Joy) but also the writers have so far appear to have swept under the rug a lot of Joy’s behaviour in S2, like her behaviour and jealousy of Mara. Not to sound dramatic but who is Joy? I love all these potential layers added (which I think Klariza did) but at the same time, I don’t know who is Joy because I feel like the writers intended to only use her in S2 as a threat to Fabina and then Klariza added these layers which made Joy more that a roadblock for Fabina, and then in S3, Joy no longer needs to be a threat to Fabina and they kind of write her as the Joy you hear about in S1 then as soon as she hears Nina is officially gone, and she makes her move, it’s a mix of S1 and S2 Joy.
- Also I want to stress that Jabian have a cute friendship, like by the end of S2, you can’t hate it because there is an innocence to it, but at the same time I think friendship is all there is to it, I just think they are too different to work as a couple. Like I think Joy thinks he’s cute and what a nice guy he is and likes the idea of him, but I just feel like if they dated, they’d eventually realise that they work better as friends because their interests are too different. Like if I remember, they never had a shared interest, I think in S2 Joy tried to be interested in history and Egypt because Fabian was and Fabian and Nina both have a shared interest in it. But it wasn’t genuinely, like I don’t think she came out of it and was like THIS IS ACTUALLY INTERESTING. Like with Fabian and Nina both have tried to not be in Sibuna and not into history and the Egyptians (Nina in S1 and Fabian in S3) and both didn’t take long before being sucked in again.
- And to conclude my Mini Joy essay, if this was made for an older audience or released now, Joy and Patricia would be canon, whether it’s an unrequited crush on one end or a full blown school romance, it would have been a thing - eventually.
- I quite like the Sisterhood of Anubis, at least the concept of it. However, I do think it is flawed a bit, I love how they stick together but how it’s used so far I think is flawed. Because it’s all about them being upfront and honest with other people - which is great and all, but they don’t go deep. Take Joy’s situation, they are all encouraging her to be honest with Fabian, supporting her and acting like Jabian will happen, but Mara and Patricia witnessed Fabina, they saw the bond Fabina had, and especially with Patricia, saw how much they loved each other, especially on Fabian’s end - it wasn’t that long ago that Fabian went crazy over Nina not returning and Neddie possibly happening. Everyone commented on how they never seen Fabian like that before. So while they should encourage Joy, they should also warn her about the possibility of rejection since Fabina broke up a few episodes back. And if Fabian said yes, she’d likely be a rebound. With Mara, I think she’s gonna benefit from it the most as she’s always tried to be a people pleaser, however I found the Alfie/Mara scene a bit forced, like a forceful way to show the development. Maybe as time goes on the new Mara will feel more natural.
- Also, this is probably the Fabina shipper in me, but I don’t like how the writers appear to be quick for Joy to move in on Fabian and for the whole house to want Fabian to move on, like Fabina was a huge part of S1&S2, they were first loves, the writers made that canon and first loves aren’t easy to get past.
- Speaking of ships, why did Peddie break up? I feel like it’s so KT and Eddie can have all the scenes together and they can explain the lack of Peddie.
- Not sure how I feel about Amber’s Fashion School exit storyline. It’s not a bad storyline and I’m glad that they gave Ana an exit storyline (If it was Ana’s choice to leave - if not, I have a complaint to make) but I think my issue is we never saw her interest in Fashion beforehand. Like we know she’s into fashion but we never saw her interested in designing clothes etc, which is what she would be doing in fashion school. For the past two seasons she was too interested in Sibuna, gossip magazines, how she looked (and Fabina) etc.
- I still can’t warm up to KT, the only reason I can think of why is because of how she just jumps up the pecking order of the main characters when others have been their longer (also I think a part of it, the Nina stan in me is because I remember how tough it was for Nina to be welcomed when she joined and KT and Eddie got it so easy, I know a part of it was because of Joy, but still). Also I’m just not invested in her and Eddie’s mystery with the key, I’m more into Sibuna and Fabian’s decoding. I know that the two mysteries with merge as one, but I just can’t get into Eddie/KT mystery compared to Fabian/Joy/Patricia/Amber/Alfie investigating.
- Willow...after you kind of get over the shock and forces nature of her entrance - I will say this until proven otherwise because she’s wanted to be in Anubis House for so long, but we only see her now? Hear of her now? Her entrance reminds me of those characters in Lost S3 that just appeared with no explanation and then were killed off because everyone hated how they were introduced. - Anyway, I enjoyed Willow a bit in this ep, this may be actress bias because I saw her in Wolfblood and Marine 6, but anyone that makes the Anubis House happy and laugh and aren’t shady are a plus in my eyes, also I quite liked her dynamic with Victor, it’s very much comedic and pure and Victor is less villainy and shady when it’s Willow/Victor.
- But Willow just suddenly always appearing at Anubis House is incredibly forced, I think it was done so viewers got use to her character before she moved in, but her suddenly always appearing with the Anubis folks and in the House just feels forced because we know she’s been on the list for 2 years and wanted to join but we have never seen her before or heard of her and the characters act like it’s normal. Her entrance could have been handled better. Like maybe suggest she had a massive transformation over the summer that she looks like a different person. And give her a more legitimate reason for always being in Anubis all of the sudden, like Amber suddenly wanting a protege or a school project.
- Also, I know Willow is meant to be in the same year as the Anubis lot, but in the few episodes I see her, I keep assuming that she’s in the year below, I don’t know if it has to do with the character or maybe how she’s introduced as she still feels out of place from the cast.
