Pokemon x DP
This idea just won't leave me alone for some reason.
So yeah, it's been a millenia and Danny has been the ghost king for a very long time.
Probably longer since time flows inconsistently and in a nonlinear fashion in the infinite realms.
He just finished all of Pariah's Neglected paper works and messed up and he's Stressed and Dead Tired™ that he needs to relax.
He completely skim through every media entertainment he could get his ghostly hands in to, managing to finish One Piece, Detective conan, MCU, DC, Spongebob, the entire pokemon franchise (games, manga, anime, movies included), complete slew of movies of different genres, games and many, many more.
He's still stressed though…
So Vacation it is!
He had a hard time deciding where he would go before someone joked about going to another multiverse just for a vacatiin and you know what? Danny like that.
(Tucker wasn't serious obviously, he was just kidding!
"Danny! Wait—! Aaaaaan he's gone."
Sam entered the office with a bunch of ghost behind her carrying ghostly paper works and request from multiple Gods, Death Gods, and Eldritch entities.
She take one glance to the office and to tuckers sheepish expression and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Okay spill, where's Danny?"
"Funny, you see—"
After the explanation, Sam sighed.
"You do the paperworks then."
"What?!"
"You dig your own grave and your own coffin, you sleep on it."
"Excuse you! I'm not Vlad! And FYI! I sleep on my Sarcophagus!"
"Don't care, what ever.")
Danny then remembered pokedex entries:
[Phantump–the Stump pokemon]
[These Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died in the forest. Their cries sound like eerie screams.]
Just like the kind of universe he belongs to!
Ignoring Tucker's voice, he opened up a portal and immediately dive in.
(He could sense the presence of the dreadfull paperworks getting closer, better skedaddle before he got caught)
He grinned and transform himself into human before shifting his age to that of a teenager, this is gonna be fun.
___
If you tell Paul previously that he would end up travelling sinnoh again with a fresh team and a traveling companion like a certain World Champion from Pallet town does all the time, then he would have scoffed or sneer at you before insulting youe intelligence.
"GET DOWN HERE YOU MENACE!!!"
Paul screamed at the tooof his lungs towardshus travelling comoanion. The said menace just grin before—
"WAIT—STOP!!!"
The menace jumped off the fucking cliff.
Paul almost have an heart attack before his companion harmlessly lands on the ground with both of his feet.
There was a big explosion of dust and dirt that Paul had to cover his eyes. The ground gave in and he could see the dark haired teen standing on the crater unharmed.
He gawked, before sighing in resignation.
Of course, he just have to get a super human, just like a certain boy from Pallet, for a travelling companion.
"Come—on Paul! Live a little would ya? Look at me, I'm half dead yet I'm having more fun than you! Give it a try for a yourself!"
Its official, this is karma for being awful and for all the things he did and said before.

YELLOW1!!1 it's been a hot minute since I sent in an ask!
Since pokemon has really come to bite my butt, I wonder what kinda pokemon Mei and Macaque would have! (I'd guess Mei would have a gyrados for some reason, but it makes sense to me and that's good enough!)
the LMK storyboard director (Ashe Jacobson) actually made pokemon cards for the LMK gang based on her hcs of them! Although they were made during S1/2 and likely don't reflect current ideas or fanon (also too many legendaries for my taste). Also no Sandy card :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Things I do love about each though:
He/They pronoun MK. MK having bunch of little monkey pokemon. Plus a Krabby for some reason. Also Age: Unknown foreshadowing... instead of the legendaries I could see him having a Ground type like a Gligar (cheeky bat pokemon based on a tyoe of Japanese yokai) or a Swinub (snow boar piglet).
Red Son out here with all the pronouns and a bunch of poor Bug/Steel types about to get melted XD. Honestly surprised that he doesn't have a Tauros. The Houndoom seems like an Erlang pokemon though, Red Son seems more of a Torchic kinda guy. I could also give him a legednary like Chi-Yu; a little piece of primordial fire based on the Chinese Great Peril of Hundun/Confusion.
Mei def deserves a Gyardos - no fault to Rayquaza but no legendaries allowed. Rapidash is perfect for her, but perhaps a shiny to fit her theme a little more + she def would be a Shiny hunter. Sceptile is a more subtle choice since it's a lizard pokemon with one of the highest base speed stats (450) and has sword-like leafy protrusions. I've seen ideas for her having a Blitzle (electric zebra pokemon) as well since it just seems like a Her pokemon to have.
I just love Tang having Shedinja (the cicada husk pokemon) partially because it falls into a little theory I have of him >:3 + Golden Cicada connection. Chimecho is also based on a type of shinto warding bell used to scare off spirits - a useful pokemon for a priest/superstitious nerd to have. The Hoothoot is adorable, he's just here cus of nerdiest. Spoink is based on a bible verse about casting wisdom to those who won't appriciate it (pearls before swine) so thats pretty Tang-coded. The Shuckle makes me think of Noodles and the infamous "don't fuckle with the Shuckle"-meme because of it's ability to become the most lethal attack pokemon under the right circumstances. Tang deserves another non-legendary tho so lets give him an artifact pokemon like a Golett or Baltoy for him to nerd about (and struggle to carry).
Pigsy has pigs. You know if Gen IX was out he'd have a LeChonk no question about it. The Munchlax is super adorable since is a hungry baby pokemon (reminds him of MK?), and the Clefable could be a hint at his amazing singing voice. Blipbug is a ladybird larva aka a "bookworm" pokemon - you know he got that one cus of Tang. The Ambipom is interesting tho - extra hands in the kitchen obvs, but maybe hinting at his incarnation's connection to SWK. I could def see him having "food"-type pokemon around too like Smoliv, Milcery, and/or Tatsugiri.
+Tang and Pigsy both have a pokemon that reminds them of eachother omg; Spoink and Blipbug. Perhaps the Spoink is (Pigsy's) Grumpig's baby?
Wukong using his flattering game art for his ID is very in-character of him XD. Most of his pokemon are really on the nose too - Infernape is legit based on him after all. I excuse the use of legendary pokemon (esp Landorus since it's a earth/cloud god pokemon) for him too since thats what he is. The most recent legendary pokemon is uber-Wukong coded tho - Pecharunt, based on the Peaches of Immortality combined with the japanese folktale of Momotaro + japanese death mythology. I could see Wukong also walking around with a bunch of horse (Mudsdale) and fruit pokemon (Boundsweet, Cherubi) as well. Maybe even having a team thats made of up pokemon that remind him of his old friends.
Macaque having a Zoroark and Zarude is super genius. Zoroark is a mimicry pokemon (based on kitsunes/huli-jings) and that checks out with what Macaque tried doing in the novel - also reminds me of my hc that Jiuweihuli took him under her wing. Zarude is a spooky legendary monkey pokemon obvs, but it's introduced in it's debut movie as "Dada" by the human it raised - sorta foreshadowing how the FFM baby monkeys really love Macaque. Gengar and Marshadow are great choices for his shadow powers ofc - with Marshow having a "lantern" kind vibe to it. Grimmsnarl I think was choosen based on it's Gigantamax form - it looks a lot like Macaque's Smoke Monster form. I could also see Macaque having a few Sneasels - little dark types based on a wind Yokai. I think that while he'd like sound/music-focused Pokemon, his ears are too sensitive to be around the moves - he'd start running the second he sees a Whimsur.
+Macaque and Wukong have Eevee-lutions that evolve based on high affection depending on time of day. Like the Sun and the Moon everybody. Oddly enough in the pokemon "I Choose You!" movie, Marshadow is considered a "guide" for those chosen by Ho-Oh (which Wukong has), early foreshadowing how Macaque becomes a legit mentor to MK.
Jin and Yin just have duo pokemon that work best together. These two def would buy both versions of a pokemon game so that they could play and trade together. The two NInetails is a cute reference to their mom - the OG Nine-Tailed Vixen. They need a Gourgeist for their Calabash tho.
This is the best i can do rn for poor Sandy; I used a mix of microsoft office word shapes, Imgflip, and the Pokecharms Trainer Id generator (I couldn't figure out how to change the trainer to a custom image).
Tumblr media
I gave him Mantine and Lapras cus they're gentle "Ride" pokemon who like carrying people across water. Polteageist cus Tea and secrets. Smergle cus of art. Vivillion cus of the blue butterfly in "To Catch a Leaf" and the Dewpider cus Huntsman. Some more ideas include Dhelmise (the seaweed anchor pokemon), Misdreavus (cus of his necklace), and/or Machamp (wrestling theme in the Scroll of Memory). Lots of cat pokemon too - him and Nanu would get along. He's not a fighter at all - and neither are his pokemon. Don't underestimate them tho - they hit hard.
Additionally; Nezha has all snake pokemon + I can see him having a Charcadet. He's got a Phantump and a Dratini too but don't ask about them.
PIF has a swarm of Castform following her since they can't be blown away by her winds (she treats them like baby wind spirits). DBK has like fifty Tauros of different breeds' and a few Miltanks + a Scovillain who provides him with peppers.
Erlang has a Houndoom and nothing else... except maybe a Lotad who reminds him of his greatest regrets.
Chang'e owes a few bunny pokemon (Scorbunny, Buneary, Azumarill, Bunnelby etc) and an Alcremie, plus a bunch of stray Clefairy-line pokemon (moon origins) and Minior (meterorite/star candy pokemon). She also has a little Rowlet plush that she hugs tightly whenever she goes to sleep (Hou Yi's starter).
I feel like animal demons dont really "own" pokemon cus they see them as fellow demons/monster species. Wukong is an except since his are probably old friends/decended from pokemon he knew back on FFM.
this got a little away from me sorry - I love pokemon too <3

HELLO!!! I saw your post about the symbiote! reader and wanted to make a request!
Requested!character dates a pokemon trainer!s/o who owns a variety of pokemon *you can pick the pokémon* but their Pikachu is always out of his pokeball and following them wherever they are? Like?? Imagine the bickering between Grim and Pikachu?!
Pikachu: Pika pi....PIKA!!!! *cheeks literally begin to spark*
Grim: Shut yer yappin! I, the great Grim, only stole your food because yer was too slow!
Can you do this request with the dorm leaders? If not, you can do it with three characters of your choosing! Thank you so much!
Warnings: slight mention of easing live Pokémon (Appletun), existential crisis (Ruggie)
Gender Neutral MC
Pikachu, I choose you!
You were so close to completing your final challenge. Standing in front of the final Pokémon Gym, you were prepared to risk it all for your dream of becoming a master trainer. Your Pikachu, a sweet little thing you named Poppy after her love for poppy seeds, nuzzled into your cheek.
She was there with you every step of the way. From the day you chose your starter Pokemon, Poppy had been growing alongside you in both strength and determination. She shared your pain and joy, your tears and frustrations, and listened to your stories of your family every night. She was practically a part of your family by now.
So now you stood together at the final hurdle. You steeled your breath and slowly turned the handle to the battle room, slowly pushing through before the ground beneath you shattered. You screamed and clung to your Pikachu, falling through the void into an adventure you’d never imagined for yourself…
Trey Clover
When I tell you Poppy adores this man
Literally was attached at the hip the second she met him because he made her blueberry poppyseed muffins
Was he trying to use her as an excuse to see you more often?
Maybe…
Don’t worry, he made sweets for you too!
He really likes your Alcremie and Appletun, though he does find it funny you had sweet themed Pokémon in your world
Yes, he is slightly mortified by the fact that children will just walk up to Appletun and start eating it and it would let them do it
Does not understand when you say he looks like a Shaymin
Rook Hunt
Poppy unintentionally started a never-ending game of hide-and-seek with him and even now you don’t understand what is happening
She can find Rook no matter where he hides and he loves it
It’s like when a cat stares into a corner at something you can’t see
They have fun and you don’t really mind (though you do get spooked occasionally)
Gets along best with your Decidueye and Froakie, though your Eevees feel a bit nervous when he’s around too long
He mentioned their tail fur being quite the rewarding trophy and now they kinda fear him
Whoops…
Ruggie Bucchi
Poppy and Ruggie are now partners in crime
She loves when he gives her a portion of his spoils and he is grateful for Poppy’s small size
Great for getting into those hard-to-reach snack dens certain Savanaclaw students make around the campus
Poor you having to clean up their mess and apologize for your little thieves
He adores your Mightyena and Zoroark and definitely gets them involved in the shenanigans
Has a slight crisis over you owning a whole ass HYENA POKEMON
Howdy, hey! Sorry for this being such a short post. I have been a bit drained from writing so many things and the fact that I haven't been too involved in Pokemon gave me quite a struggle while writing this request. I hope you enjoyed it regardless of the length, and maybe I shall rewrite this to better suit your request.
I hope my work fulfilled your fantasy! - GN

What do the boys think when they arrive at the Unova region, as well as what they're going to do in the New York-inspired region?
I'll be basing Unova on the BW2 cause those are the ones I remember playing.
And honestly, I think the ones that would be noteworthy are the battle subway and the pokestar studios.
Vil, being the actor that he is would want to see how Pokemon were involved in movies. They'd be there for a while, there was a lot of movies to watch, poor Epel was stuck with Rook and Vil in movie viewing.
He wanted to see what the gyms were like!
Of course, they would have a field day in Castelia city, a huge place with lots of fun things to see. Phoebe would recommend the Castelia cones first! She's not missing out on any of that!
Malleus and Ruggie wouldn't argue and tries to get the others to line up for a Castelia cone. The moment they do, they taste heaven. It wasn't like anything they've tasted before. Malleus would certainly miss this.
Then Nimbasa City with the ferris wheel and theme park to play in!
Don't forget the Battle subway and the Pokemon musical! Epel is groaning as he gets dragged into another theater by Vil.
Everyone would enjoy the rides at the theme park. The first years trying to out do one another in the game stalls, Ruggie just chowing down on the food.
Cater taking selfies everywhere! He's taking a selfy on the roller coaster too which got him scolded by staff cause that's dangerous! He got too excited...
Floyd absolutely getting scolded by park staff when he tried to do all sorts of crap. He's worse than a toddler throwing tantrums! Azul had to put him on the child leash to make sure they don't get kicked out...
If there was a haunted house attraction at the theme park, Sebek would put a Whismur to shame with how loud he was screaming.
Then came the battle subway was kinda shcking because they mistakenly took the train which was a battle train and if the boys had Pokemon with them they were forced to battle.
Phoebe does most of the battling because this was an honest mistake. She can recall the times she was caught off guard too.

also, i would love to listen to u ramble bout the victorian era ^_^
Alright! :D
This is long so I'm putting it under a [read more] :)
JACK THE RIPPER: Only two out of the canonical five victims of Jack the Ripper was actually prostitutes. The only commonalities between the victims are that they are women and that they were drunk at the time of their deaths. It is possible they were targeted for being drunk and women, rather than them being prostitutes. - Not that there's anything wrong with them being that, but when we reduce these women to their job we are also implicating that this was their murderer's reason for targeting them. Only the last, and most horrific murder, victim had sexual intercourse some time before her death - it is unknown if this was before or after she met the person who murdered her. One of the victims were also a swedish woman! (and she was a con-artist!)
DIETS: Beans, eggs and sausages on toast was the victorian equalivent of a pizzeria. It was a popular German cuisine and it was a popular diet fad of the time! (like the sushi popularity in the early 2010's) Another dietary fad was a weight loss diet in which you would take one spoon-full of food, and chew that in your mouth for a whole minute or two with your chin tilted down. It was believed that: if you chew more and for longer, your hunger would go away quicker. And it was believed that the more you chew your food, the more of it's nutrients would be picked up by your body. There was a few (but they didnt last long) cafe´s that was based solely on this fad, where a butler of sort would ring a bell when you took your spoon of food and when you got to swallow. Really stupid lmao. But no different that silly fads we have today.
it was considered that the fluffier and whiter a bread was, the better it must be. Because it looked and felt better/prettier. But truth is that it was utter shit, most likely full of lice and dust. But hey, it sold! Now, you were poor if you only had wholegrain dark bread. So it was the complete opposite of today.
You could buy a cup-shield that you applied into your cup so that, when you drank with a moustache upon your lip, the foam of your coffee/tea/milk/whatever would not mess up your pristine facial groom.
CORSETS: Do not believe the lies they tell you about corsets. It is a popular idea to think that corsets were restrictive and damaging. This was not the common place. Most people used them as casually as people wear bra's today. It was just a bra and a back support. It was not as restrictive as people like to popularise it today. Now, an ill-fit corset will always be bad for you though. Yes, there were some corsets that made it difficult to bend down and pick up your shit that you dropped - but these were often corsets you wore under evening gowns or dresses you wore on special occasions - aka, occasions where you shouldn't be bending over anyway. The corset problem became a problem when some young women took it too far. The problem with corsets was that some people tightened them too hard to the point they deformed their bodies - like plastic surgery today. It's not an evil to do plastic surgery, but it's a problem when some take it too far, idealise that extremism, and pretend it's all natural. The same debate was happening back then. It also didn't help that illustrations of women had teensy tiny waists, and real women were trying to imitate the illustrations. But just as there is a problem of young people trying to imitate photoshopped images today, but still having an aware conscious that those photos aren't reality - the same was going on back then. it's just the same shit different name.
COLLECTIBLE CARDS: Hehe, did you think Pokemon was first? No! It was Hockey cards! Actually, No again! It was cards you could get from cigarette and match-boxes! You could get a whole set of cards with a special theme. Or maybe you preferred to collect the more adult-y themed ones! Or maybe you didn't like the ones with people, perhaps you just liked to collect the ones with different gun illustrations. Kids as well as adults would trade cards. There were no real game around it as far as I personally understand, but people collected them for fun and there were fans of the illustrations. Some people had favourite artists they liked to collect and pursued to get them signed, etc. It was quite fun!
Okay that's it for now lmao :'''D

lonely, hardy, sassy, gentle!
lonely- favorite song in a pokemon game?
i think volo's battle theme is DEFINITELY up there but i'm also biased (it's a banger however) but besides that i can list several more. sootopolis city, sada/turo, route 216 sinnoh, route 10 unova, jubilife city, any variation of n's theme but i especially love the bridge/castle versions... i could be here all day honestly, pokemon absolutely never misses with its impeccable soundtracks
hardy- what was your first pokemon game and when?
my first mainline game was sapphire, but the actual first pokemon-related title that i remember getting into was hey you pikachu on the n64 LMAO... i started off with the spin-offs and played ones like colosseum, xd, stadium, channel, etc before finally getting engrossed in the mainstream titles around the time that diamond/pearl came out, but i got swept up in hoenn first since it's the generation i grew up with :)
sassy- what would be your favorite pokemon food?
i've always wanted to try one of those little confections you feed to your 'mons in gen 6...... they're so cutely designed. also poffins even though the process of making them in-game has murdered my poor wrist more times than i can count.
gentle- if you were a pokemon trainer, how would you take your journey?
i think i'd definitely focus on the adventuring/bonding aspect over the gym challenge. like, i'd still do it but it's something i'd take my time with since my favorite part about the games is exploration. i'd take my sweet time steadily training my team and exploring every nook and cranny of the region. i'm also an active shiny hunter so it'd be so funny to see how that would translate to like, an actual in-world experience. working up some incredible calf muscles with all the bicycling i do fruitlessly hatching thousands upon thousands of eggs. honestly i could see myself being more so along the lines of a professor's assistant or researcher as opposed to a hardcore battler. oh, and i'd be ransacking every boutique available to me :)

B2:S - Chapter 3
Much of this series will be about the differences and additions in the novel version, and how they contribute to my understanding of story canon. But there will be character appreciation, the odd theory and headcanon, and suchlike as well.
Here be Lujanne, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, Bait, and Soren goodness!
Spoilers for Book Two: Sky below.
Lujanne having excellent fitness for all her walking around the Moon Nexus, and she's so energetic that Callum has trouble keeping up with her! She seems like those active grandmas who almost never stop moving, who have a lifelong supply of endless stamina. It makes me wonder if Lujanne will need that level of fitness for some upcoming conflict.
Callum feeling really hungry over not eating grubs and then still deciding he'd rather be hungry. It makes me wonder all over again how Lujanne got to the point where she eats grubs, considering that other Moonshadow elves we know of back in the Silvergrove don't. I still love my hc that the giant leech ate all of Lujanne's moonberry bushes and she's taking her revenge. Whatever's going on there, Callum is definitely not at that point yet.
When Lujanne asks Callum how he knows she's real, he thinks to himself that he'd put up with just about anything from someone who was going to teach him magic. That's a great parallel and foreshadowing for Viren's student/master relationship with Aaravos! And it's telling that neither student gets exactly what they hoped to get. Lujanne doesn't actively teach Callum any spells, because she believes he can't learn Moon magic at all. Aaravos does offer Viren power, but it takes him to some very dark places - literally and figuratively - and the cost is terribly high.
Callum sees a moon shape among the ruins, and Lujanne explains that the Moonhenge layout is an intricate rune that uses the structures themselves as part of its symbols and power. That's apparently a thing even with ordinary Moonshadow villages like Hollow Wood in the east, which is the coolest idea I've seen in a while: city planning as magic runes!
Tumblr media
Yes, that's the same shape as the pendants Ethari made for himself and Runaan. Protection? Home? Feelsiness? A sense of safety and belongnig for all cycles and seasons?
Wonder what this Moonhenge rune stands for, then, and how much of this landscape is included in that rune. I bet it's more than we think!
Tumblr media
But it makes sense now, how toppling the stone pillars would disable the spell the druids would cast to connect with the Moon Nexus lake. Breaking the infrastructure of the Moonhenge breaks the rune.
There's a physical sensation involved with the visuals that Historia Viventem brings up! When that one ghostly druid walked through Callum, he felt icy cold. Like in ghost stories. I really wonder about what exactly Historia Viventem is doing when it activates. It shows truth, "what really happened here?", so it must have some kind of time-related element, maybe tied to how the moon always repeats the same cycles or something. But it also seems to draw on the spirits of any living people involved in the flashback, because Callum could physically feel that wispy shape passing through him. So very interesting!
Orrr... is that all wrong, and there's something else at work with this spell than time? Maybe the world beyond life and death can act as an imprint of the things that have happened in the living world, and the spell that Lujanne (and later Callum) casts taps into that place, with perfect recall. I'm looking really hard at the sentence that says "dozens of translucent elf ghosts" and "phantom Moonhenge" and "lost in their own world" here.
Lujanne says more here than in the show about the world beyond life and death, being her mysterious Moonshadow-mage self. She says that "beyond" and "between" might both apply to where this other plane of existence is, and she doesn't much care which. With all the relativity swirling around this place, and not much in the way of empiricism, it's sounding like perhaps multiple conflicting ideas might actually coexist in such a place, allowing more ideas to fit there than we might normally believe is possible. Which is a fascinating bit of worldbuilding. Basically, every headcanon anyone has ever had about the Moon Nexus could all be true at the same time, for all we know.
Oh oh oh, Callum coming in soft with a secret wish! He takes one look at the Moonhenge and immediately thinks of finding a way to see his mom again! Poor boy, my heart! I'd say that could be another interesting parallel with Viren, but then, who wouldn't hold that sentiment?
Oh my, is this another breath of life into Ye Olde Ley Lines headcanon? Lujanne mentioning the Nexuses again, so soon after talking about the runic design of the entire Moonhenge, makes me wonder if the six nexuses are in fact giant runes. On Earth, the places where ley lines cross are called nexuses, and there are those who believe those points got marked with ancient structures, like Stonehenge and many many others. If Xadia were crossed with magical lines which naturally formed nexus points where they met, and if powerful magical runes were built across those entire areas, well. That would be cool beans, fams. Can I smack a map of Xadia and release a spell like Luz Noceda does? Because ngl that is my first instinct here.
Lujanne has got to be missing some grandkids to spoil, right? The way she's always whipping out cake and ice cream for Callum, and she's so grandma-ish about it. Headcanon about her being Runaan's mom aside, she is canonically lonely and she's very sweet to Allen and Ellis and I think she's missing whatever family she once had in the past. She may never get to have that family back, so she's finding a new one among the humans who live nearby, and I think that's sweet. Found family isn't just for the young.
But Ellis is straight up gonna be her fave, I bet, because she didn't turn up her nose at Lujanne's illusion food!
Ezran and Bait have a lot more to their relationship than was visible in the show, and I'm so excited by it! Ez can tell by looking at Bait's colors that he's not truly jealous of Zym, even if he's really grumpy about the dragonling taking up his favorite human's time.
And Ez thinking a lot about his dad and the things he's taught him. They're soft leadership material, and I love that so much! "Pick your battles" and the importance of encouragement. Ahh, my heart. Ezran, you're going to be such a good king.
But wait a second: both times that Bait gets extra grumpy in Zym's first training session, Ezran has just mentioned something about flying. Guys, I think Bait wishes he could fly, really badly. And that's his biggest problem with Zym, and with Ezran teaching Zym to fly, instead of Bait who doesn't have wings so. Bait is so old that his secrets have secrets, and I'm really curious how flying fits into them now!
Rayla, Dramatic Assassin: "I need to patrol for dark forces." That's what Lujanne called the source of the purple wisps that found them. I wonder if that's an official term all Moonshadows know, or if Rayla is just taking her cue from a veteran Moon mage. And I wonder how far Rayla is falling into the apparent pattern of "one mage, one assassin", since she does spend a lot of her time patrolling without being asked.
When Callum tells Lujanne that he was bad at prince stuff, and she asks if he didn't give up and got good at those things anyway, it's an opportunity for Callum to embrace subverting his parents' expectations in favor of seeking his own path, which is a primary theme of the show. But Lujanne is a couple generations older than Callum, at the very least, and I have to wonder what her upbringing was like. Is her version of success the one she took? Was she bad at magic once too, but she persisted? She is very soft and doesn't want to kill anyone.
Maybe Lujanne had dreams of doing something else with her life, but she felt she had to pursue the destiny that others handed to her, so she studied magic as hard as she could, and she did get good at it, but using it to defend Xadia from humans is not what she wanted to do with her life. Whether there's a parallel between her and Ethari on that point, there's one between Callum and Ethari, I think. How much of your life are you willing to let others direct for you?
LISTEN I WAS DYING AT THE EAR BREAD SCENE OKAY
This is my new favorite Soren and Claudia moment ever. Soren loves him his bread, okay. Even as earplugs for Claudia's sleep ocarina tune. The fact that it's "super effective" makes me think of a Pokemon defense. The fact that he learned it at camp, where he also learned about Moonshadow Madness, is hilarious. Later on, Corvus doesn't know Soren by name, but I still love the idea of Corvus being a kind of Strider-esque camp instructor, filling the ears of his young charges with all kinds of useful tactics like ear bread for magic spell songs (which actually seemed to work as intended), and warnings about the enemy elves' blood-themed tactics (which may or may not come back around in BH)
I thought they were gonna go in a kind of deep direction when Soren still wanted his ear bread back, but then he just. Eats them. Just noms them. I love this kid. Give Soren all the bread!

My question is basically: in the scenario I describe, do you think I should go with or without torture as a referenced thing that happened? The situation is this- my character’s father has been dead for seven years, but I thought that what if, instead of being killed by the monster he was faced with at the time, he was injured by it and then captured by a group of bad guys. This is set in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild universe and the bad guys in question are the Yiga Clan, (1/9)
who alternate between a comical and threatening presence in the game. They are presented as a tribe of assassins, but the reason why they decide to take my character’s father alive is that they saw him using a rare kind of magic and either want him to teach it to them or want to get him to use it for them. (It’s hereditary so he can’t teach it to anyone but his daughter, but they don’t know that and he will neglect to inform them that anyone else has the same abilities.) (2/9) Most likely they want him to do something with his magic when their idol (Ganon, The Big Bad) returns or possibly something that they think would help him return. Where the question of torture comes in is, I need him to still be alive and capable of going with an escape attempt after seven years. So, whether or not they get the notion to try torturing at any point, it obviously can’t be super regular or prolonged over this period. I thought maybe one or two incidents toward the beginning (3/9) of his captivity, which were ordered to stop when they realized they would have to keep him alive for an undetermined amount of time and that’s easier when you aren’t treating extra injuries, but I’m not sure that would really add anything other than acknowledging the fact that someone in there probably got the notion to go “hey if he won’t teach us that magic what if we punch him and ask again” and may not have been turned down. Or they may have, (4/9) or they may not have brought it up at all because the Leader didn’t ask them to. Alternately, I could lean into their comical side and say that, while they got the idea to try “torturing” they don’t actually know how to do that. They’re assassins, they usually just kill, they don’t really know what to do with prisoners, it’s been a long time since they split off from another group that may have known torture techniques in the service of the now-destroyed kingdom. In which case it would be (5/9) things like “ohoho what if we give him his food... WITHOUT ANY bananas? he’ll be MISERABLE” (they are obsessed with bananas) played for a weird kind of humor. On the other hand I don’t want to imply that if they’d tried “REAL” torture it might have worked. Possibly the punching and asking again was tried once toward the beginning, then the comical “no bananas” one was tried later and neither one accomplished anything? I don’t want to say he spent seven years underground (6/9) surrounded by a comical murderous weirdo cult and “nothing really happened” in that time until his rescue but I don’t want to shoe in something like Actual Torture Attempts when it isn’t necessary. I could fill his time with escape attempts and/or trying to get information. Final thing: his daughter is going to break him out with the help of the Hero and a friend who defected from the Yiga Clan. This friend’s mother is going to take leadership of the clan but is meant to reform somewhat. (7/9) My character (the one whose father is imprisoned) could funnel her anger at his imprisonment towards the previous leader but if she finds out he was tortured (or weird attempts were made at it) she could have more trouble coming to a grudging, still pretty angry acceptance that her friend’s mother exists and is the way she is and probably shouldn’t be magically lit on fire. Or she could compartmentalize and say the friend’s mother never ordered anything like that, or may have even (8/9) turned a blind eye to her father’s final escape. This was a lot of detail but again the main questions are: does that seem like torture attempts would add or detract, and would it be in poor taste to include something like the “no bananas” scene? (9/9)
-
While I’d never played a Zelda game when I got this ask I am now one of Those People who got a switch in response to not being able to go outside. (They had pokemon, I was weak). And I’ve put a lot of hours into Breath of the Wild since. It’s a beautifully realised setting and I can see the appeal of writing something set in that world.
Humour is a very subjective thing. Whatever we do there are always going to be people that the jokes don’t land for. I’ve (mostly) got positive responses to my humour but I have had incidents both here and on my AO3 page where people took exception to it. And that’s a lot more likely to happen when we’re dealing with serious topics.
That said, I do think that we need humour about the things that scare us. There’s nothing quite as potent and satisfying as making our fears ridiculous.
If you’re considering using humour in a torture/kidnap/POW situation (whatever you decide re torture the story definitely contains some of these elements) then the main thing to consider is this: what are we actually laughing at?
This kind of humour is mostly likely to backfire or be outright hurtful when it can be interpreted as laughing at the victims. Or at the existence of traumatic events. And it’s most likely to work consistently when it’s aimed at the abusers.
From the way you’ve described this it sounds like the joke is on the Yiga clan. As it is in the game itself. (I have enjoyed the assassination attempts by enraged ‘banana salesmen’.) If you wanted to continue the pattern the game set I think a lot of fellow fans would enjoy this humour.
But the main question here is about when we should use torture in a story. And how we judge whether it’s adding anything.
Personally I start by thinking about the tone and themes of the story. The kind of atmosphere I want to capture and kinds of character interactions I want to write.
Then I try to think through the impact torture would have on the narrative in terms of knock on effects. So, symptoms in victims/survivors, witnesses and torturers but also effects on culture, community and organisations.
It would probably be easiest for me to break this down with an example or two.
I’ve talked briefly about both of these stories before. One of them takes place about two decades after a military coup ousted an absolute monarchy. Ilāra, one of the major characters, was embedded in the old regime and tortured people. They were also tortured by the regime and helped make the coup successful.
And part of the impact torture has on the story is in Ilāra's symptoms. But it’s also in the way other characters relate to them. Normal people are afraid of them or disgusted/enraged at the sight of them. They’re ostracised by their own community and treated with contempt by their military superiors.
One of the major themes running through the story is the question of how we deal with people we love when they’ve done horrific things. And how countries, cultures, move on from atrocities.
Most of the major characters aren’t Ilāra's generation, they’re the kids who came afterwards. The people who just about remember the Revolt but grew up in a world without the monarchy. They’re navigating a legacy of blood and bitterness, things that aren’t their fault but nevertheless have shaped the world they live in.
Part of it is about how the children Ilāra helped raise respond to this personal (and national) history. How they try to square the fact that this person was good (and in some ways defining) for them, while being monstrous to others.
I felt that torture would add to this story because the point of it is those fault lines. In society at large and in personal relationships. It’s about exploring how we try to bridge or heal those fault lines and how, sometimes, we make them deeper.
Torture (and indeed the other atrocities that are part of the country’s legacy) serve to raise the stakes. They deepen that initial emotional trench between the characters. And they also… Pull the camera back I suppose? The story may be about a single family but it isn’t an individual story. It’s about how larger patterns of abuse effect everyone in a society. Torture serves to make it about the culture, the country, instead of just the individuals within it.
There are similar ideas in the other story I’m working on, societal divides and how we bridge them, but I think there’s a slightly different focus.
Both of these stories are fantasy stories, but while Ilāra's story is in a sort of circa 1900s past Kibwe’s is in the future. It’s extrapolating the political oppression and systems from the places I’m interested in (in this case India, the Philippines, Kenya and Nigeria.)
The story takes place across generations starting when Kibwe was a teenager but continuing to his daughter’s formative years and into his children becoming independent adults.
And there’s torture in this story because the entire family is involved in politics. Because I grew up knowing that the natural consequence of acting for major political reform/justice was arrest and torture.
The story is about trying to change unjust systems and generational violence. It’s also about the unhealthy ways people can engage in activism, putting the theoretical good of the community above their health and their families/friends.
I didn’t really have to think about including torture in any depth, it was a natural fit. In fact I’m not sure I could talk about politics in any meaningful way without talking about torture.
So some more specific questions that might help with your story. Is the structure of the Yiga clan important to the story? Is the effect they have on society at large important to the story? Is this primarily an individual/personal story or one with a wider focus?
There aren’t ‘wrong’ answers to those questions, it’s about what you want to write.
Do you want a more personal focus with the relationships between the major characters being more important then the world at large? I think of this as a character focused (as opposed to a character driven) story.
For instance in the Lord of the Rings trilogy while we care about every member of the fellowship the important thing throughout, the focus, is the destruction of the ring and the systems that are harming all of Middle Earth. By contrast in Howl’s Moving Castle we care about the war and the fate of the missing Prince, but the important thing is what happens to the girls from the hat shop.
Both of these approaches to a story can include torture in a meaningful way. It can add to both kinds of stories. But it’s generally adding different things.
In a character focused story (with the kind of plot you’re writing) torture is mostly adding a sudden change to all of the relationships a character has. There might be focus on symptoms, a recovery arc, character development etc but the first and most obvious thing it’s adding is a major change to how these characters interact.
In a story that’s more focused on the big picture of the world torture can add world building elements and it can be used to map out divisions and allegiances in the societies you write.
Part of the reason I’m making this distinction is that in this scenario you can very easily tell a character focused story with trauma-recovery and not have torture. Kidnap and seven years imprisonment is enough to be traumatising.
That doesn’t mean torture couldn’t/wouldn’t add anything to that story. But it might not be necessary for the story you want to tell and the focus you want it to have.
On the other hand if this is primarily a broader story about communities and cultures growing and changing, the decision of whether or not to include torture has much more potential to direct the plot. It could create opposition to reforming the Yiga clan, both inside the clan (wanting to stick with how things are) and outside it (with people wanting it utterly destroyed).
Different factions and cultures might band together on the basis of shared opposition to the Yiga clan. And the clan’s reformation could effect those allegiances.
There could also be knock on effects based on where the clan operates: cultures that have been targetted by them in the past might not want this new ‘reformed’ (and more obvious) Yiga clan on their lands. And that in turn could stir up trouble within the clan because hey they’ve been here for generations it’s their home too!
There are lots of ways torture could add to this plot and these characters. It could also feed in to broader themes.
For instance the main character and her father haven’t seen each other for seven years. The difference between how we remember or idolise someone and the way they actually are is a theme you could add to here. The Yiga clan is going to end up reformed: what does it take for people to accept that reformation and forgive? The main character is friends with a former Yiga assassin: how do we process the fact people we care about might have hurt others?
That isn’t an exhaustive list, I’m just throwing out ideas to see if anything interests you.
In terms of timing and character being physically able to escape I think you’re already hit on a pretty good idea.
Torturers don’t tend to stop when ordered to. Part of the reason a lot of organisations reject torturers is because they… tend to disobey orders. A lot.
So if you wanted to write a scenario where this character is initially tortured and then held for a much longer time without torture the realistic way to do that is to have the character transferred from the ‘care’ of one group of Yigas to another. Torturers tend to exist in groups as sub-cultures within larger organisations. Which means that their presence in an organisation does not necessarily indicate that everyone in the organisation supports/carries out torture.
You could even have the Yiga’s take a (perhaps half-hearted) anti-torture stance and have them punish the torturers.
Wrapping up, the decision of whether or not to include torture is up to you. I can see ways it could add to your story but the points and themes I’ve spoken about might not be things you’re interested in.
Just because an element could add to a story doesn’t necessarily mean it’s adding something you want. There’s nothing wrong with deciding that an element doesn’t interest you, takes the story in a direction you like less or causes more stress then you want as you write it.
Ultimately the question is whether you want to write torture. And there’s no wrong answer to that question.
 I hope that helps. :)

Hi, I'm a aspiring writer of fantasy novels, I have two ideas of different fantasy worlds, one more "traditional" (but with no elves, dwarves, orcs and such) with humans and other intelligent species living there and another totally different. This one is just a world that no humans at all. There are still bipedal and sapience species, but are a far cry of Tolkien-esque. But I have trouble in makimg that world more alien than familiar while not making things too wierd just for the sake of it.
I think the best fantasy worlds are ones where the strange fantastical details all intermix in a logical way.
Let’s take poor maligned J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth as a first example.  One of the reasons so many people rip it off is because everything in it begins with a basic concept and spins a bunch of fun details out of that concept.  Dwarves are humanoids who live underground - ergo, they are good at mining, they tend to have access to a lot of metals and gems, having access to those metals and gems gives them a natural advantage at being blacksmiths, therefore dwarf armor and weaponry is uniquely special and dwarves have access to great stockpiles of material wealth, etc.  Elves are an ancient humanoid race that is more attuned to the spiritual aspects of the world than others are, therefore they live in cities that are more harmonious with the natural world than is common, therefore they can speak with animals, etc.  Orcs are a humanoid race that have been systematically bred and raised to be warriors first and foremost, therefore their culture is cruel and violent, therefore they have trouble creating art or properly communicating with each other, etc.
The world of Middle Earth is built by taking a few big, fantastical ideas and exploring all the ramifications of what might happen if they actually existed. So to is the way with other fantasy.
For my second example, let’s look at Pokemon.  The world of Pokemon is a world where anything and almost everything is not only alive, but intelligent enough to communicate with each other - from animals and plants to keyrings, magnets, and literal bags of garbage.   What’s more, the vast majority of these sapient creatures are embued with fantastical powers - generally offensive weapons, but some with stranger uses, like generating money or restoring health to the injured.
How does the existence of these creatures affect the world?  Well, by making it almost utopian.  While Pokemon are aggressive and have base animals needs (i.e. food and water), they can not only be reasoned with, but actually enjoy and seek out collaboration.  As a result, human society hinges on partnership with pokemon.  Fire-breathing pokemon assist in restaurants, electric pokemon help run power plants, pokemon with healing powers assist at free health-care facilities - the civilization of this world runs on the amicable cooperation of vastly different species who all recognize that they can be stronger by working together.  It seeps into the culture of the world, to the point where young people are encouraged to travel at an early age because a few pokemon partners are all they need to be kept safe - where training your first pokemon is a rite of passage, where people often base their wardrobe and overall persona on the types of pokemon they like.  That one fantastical element - sapient monsters of all shapes and forms - is explored and elaborated on to build a whole world with a coherent theme.
Look at the weird, fantastical elements you are adding to your world and figure out what they are in a nutshell - what, exactly, is a dragon?  An elf?  A pokemon?  What is the pitch of this fantastical thing?  Once you have that answered, ask yourself the one question that is actually a LOT of questions: how would the world change if this thing was real?  How would it fit into the ecosystem, into society?  How would it affect culture, history?  How would the world affect and shape it in turn?  That’s how you keep elements in a story from feeling random/weird for the sake of it - explore just what this element, be it a species, force, magical rock, or what have you, would change if it existed.

Ash Fletcher
Theme song / Theme song / Moodboard Divinity: Aschere, The Prince of Blades, Star of Omens (judgement, destiny and ill omens, divine vision, truth, stars, destruction)

BASIC INFORMATION
Full name: Ashley Renn Fletcher Gender: Male Age: 24 Birthday: 14th April
Myers-Briggs: INFJ Zodiac: Aries Tarot card: Ten of Swords
Nationality: American Birthplace: Holyhead, Clallam County, Washington
Sexuality: Biromantic asexual Relationship status: Single
Occupation: Stage technician (previously studied at MIT)

APPEARANCE
Height: 5’3” Weight: 120lbs
Hair: Fluffy, unruly mixed curls and waves, kept in a pixie cut. Eye colour: White-blue
Physical characteristics: Petite in stature, slender in build. He has thin arms and wrists with long, dainty fingers. He’s baby-faced, with heart-shaped features, wide eyes and a button nose, and looks much younger than he really is. Other traits: Faint freckles on his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. He has a collection of scars from his traumatic experiences in Holyhead. Tattoos: None
Clothes: Typically an open shirt and a light jacket over a T-shirt and slim jeans. Prefers muted colours, often green, navy and khaki. He may dispense with the jacket on hot days but always keeps the shirt, as he burns easily. He likes scarves in cooler weather.

TRAITS
Personality: Ash is shy and introverted. A pacifist, he dislikes conflict and avoids it where possible, to the point that he’d rather let people walk all over him than escalate the situation. He’s genuinely warm and caring and hates seeing people hurt. He can, however, be remarkably stubborn when he has to be. He’s intelligent, methodical, and hates leaving a job half done or to a poor standard, often his own worst critic. Despite his sensitive nature, he does have serious anger issues simmering beneath the surface and has a very bad habit of bottling up all of his feelings.
Motives: After his horrifying experiences, Ash feels trapped in limbo, unsure what to do. Finishing his doctorate and going back to a ‘normal’ life feels impossible now, so he drifts aimlessly around Holyhead, helping Mike to steer curious visitors away from the dark places where horrors dwell. His main driving motive is to protect others—from himself.
Values: Ash places high value on the lives and safety of others, putting their feelings above his own. He will tell a white lie to protect people if he thinks that the truth will hurt them. Despite his sweet nature, he is not optimistic, and often finds himself questioning whether anything he does really matters in the end. He feels that his life is no longer his to control, and can only make choices as long as outside forces allow it.
Fears: Claustrophobic, hates small, enclosed spaces, especially ones without windows, and has abandonment issues. His greatest fear is his own uncontrollable power, and what happens when he loses himself to it. The thought of hurting people again makes him sick to his core—in his eyes, he’s a monster.
Weaknesses: Ash often refuses help, feeling like his problems are his own to deal with, even from those he trusts. He’s too scared of conflict to stand up for himself in most cases, until he’s pushed too far and snaps. Explosively.
Quirks: Bites his lip or knuckles when nervous, his hands and arms when scared. Likes to chew pencils. Hates being touched without permission except by those he deeply trusts and will reflexively jerk away from unwanted contact. With those he cares about, however, he’s a snugglebug and loves to be close to them. He’s a bit of a magpie and likes shiny things.

‹ confession song ›
flashback - highschool
it was a late afternoon.
your best friend had dragged you all the way up the rooftop while you were in the midst of reading your novel.
you asked him curiously, “so how was your break? i couldn’t ask you earlier since i forgot.”
younghyun took a seat on the ledge and you plopped down right next to him.
“canada was great~ i met up with my old friends!” he replied.
“and a lot of them are attached,” you mentioned, recalling seeing the pictures of his friends with their girlfriends on his instagram.
reaching down and taking his guitar out of its case, he let out a chuckle.
“yet, here i am all alone.”
have you ever mentioned that high school kang younghyun was a hotshot?
you rolled your eyes. “don’t say that when you rejected almost the entire population of girls in our school.”
you enjoyed the light autumn breeze against your face while you lightly kicked your legs back and forth in mid-air.
“you know the song i’ve been working on since the start of the year?” he said while strumming the strings of the guitar lightly.
you turned and looked at him questionably before answering, “that song.”
“well, that song... i finished it over the break,” he announced proudly.
you were eager to hear the “highly confidential” song that he has been keeping from you.
“promise me, you won’t laugh.”
“ i promise.”
you do have to admit, younghyun has a nice voice.
it is the type of voice that reflects easily on your emotions, tugs at your heartstrings, and allows you to empathize with its meaningful lyrics through his calm and silky voice.
why why why do I stare at the ceiling every night?
i gave you so many hints so you can notice but you don’t
i’m serious my eyes say that i like you why don’t you feel it? my face is so obvious
i can’t stop loving you
“the lyrics dude, where-- who inspired you?”
“just some romantic chick flicks i watched over the break. plus, listening to unrequited love songs, and reading all the friend-zone experiences on the internet.”
you joked, “out of a sudden...? who hurt you?”
he averted his eyes away. “very funny.”
“i’m joking-- the song’s really good! it talks about how this man or woman is seriously in love someone but the person’s acting ambiguous, i highly emphasize with that person you know.”
“someone friend zoned you or something?”
“yeah! you know donghae?”
“oh my god, please tell me it’s not that guy from super junior?”
you waved off the topic. “enough of my love life. what are you going to name this song?” you asked.
he hummed, pausing for a moment to think.
“i’ll title it ‘i’m serious’.”
“let’s hope that you won’t become your own song.”
younghyun playfully pushed you in the shoulder.
“ha. ha.”
present - the annual festival
in the dressing room, you stared at your reflection in complete horror.
“oh my god, you look so cute!” nayeon squealed.
hugging your body was a brown furry onesie, with a cute headpiece that adorned your head and a pair of fluffy gloves.
“what am i?” you asked her.
“you’re grizzly from we bare bear!” nayeon said.
“how did we end up with this theme?”
nayeon giggled, “henry went late for the department meeting, the rest of the department had already chosen their themes and the only theme left was this.”
henry, overhearing the conversation between you and nayeon, walked over and joined in. “i’m sorry about being late, and also, i hate this equally as well.”
“heavens! what are you?” you almost screamed aloud.
henry was wearing an atrocious furry green body suit, a fake bushy green mustache stuck on the top of his lips and hair was sprayed in a shade of neon green.
“i don’t even know whether i’m the grinch or charlie the bigfoot.”
“you’re going to scare people off.” nayeon shook her head in dismay.
henry sighed, “i know right! i hope people still notice my out-of-the-world looks, that’s my biggest concern.” he pointed at his ‘out-of-the-word’ face.
“hi, can i take a picture with you?”
you’re the 104th person that had asked me that. you thought, grinning through gritted teeth.
“sure, why not--wonpil!”
after wandering around and promoting around the area for people to visit your department’s store, you stumbled upon a wild wonpil nearby the game stations.
“your department theme is pokemon...?”
wonpil, who was wearing a charmander outfit nodded his head enthusiastically.
“you look so adorable! i wanna squish you!” wonpil cooed, reaching out and tried to squeeze your cheeks.
“i’m going to bite your hands if you do that.” you threatened playfully.
he squealed, “oh my god, that makes it even cuter!”
you saw a plastic ball flew in the direction of wonpil’s head.
before you could warn wonpil of the incoming danger, he winced as the impact on the back of his head.
“i choose you charmander!”
“what the heck! who is-- jae!” wonpil shrilled
jae laughed hysterically in the distant, earning a death glare from the poor boy.
wonpil picked up the plastic ball, aiming it in the direction of jae.
jae managed to dodge the ball, much to wonpil’s displeasure.
dowoon (dressed as a pikachu; yellow shirt, a pointed headband) and sungjin (dressed as bulbasaur; green shirt, green plant bulb backpack on his back) joined you, wonpil and jae afterward.
the school of music got the pokemon theme. the school of liberal arts got the harry potter theme. the school of business got the royalties theme. the school of arts got we bare bear theme.
we bare bear theme practically wasn’t a thing only after the whole cartoon got really famous, replacing the highly-loved spirited away theme.
jae, who had a lightning ‘scar’ on his forehead with a circular frame was trying to mimic the famous protagonist.
“are you the bear from the revenant?”
“excuse me? i didn’t mock your suckish harry potter impersonation, plus, i can’t wait to get out of this costume.” you defended yourself.
dowoon pointed to a group in front of us, “hey, look! isn’t that younghyun?” he asked aloud.
the five of us looked at the same direction, watching a group of girls swarming and constantly repeating ‘can i take a picture with you?’ while the person himself in the middle looked completely flustered by the attention he was getting.
“i guess brian is the mvp this year.” jae commented, a tinge of the envy in his tone. “c’mon girls! give our man some space!”
wonpil bumped you lightly on the shoulder, giving you the ‘look! jae is jealous’ and you giggled.
“hello prince charming, where’s your consort?”
“ha. ha. very funny, sungjin.” younghyun rolled his eyes.
he turned and looked at you, and you felt your breath got hitched up in your throat.
wearing a black suit and a golden crown right on top of his perfectly styled hair, he looked like a prince that had come out from a fairytale book.
indeed, only kang younghyun can pull off that.
“you looked so done with yourself,” he remarked.
“i am. meanwhile, you look... great!” you replied, fixing your headband self-consciously.
younghyun squeezed your cheeks and you let out a small yelp.
“you look fine~ cute actually.”
you felt your face began to heat up, and you quickly slapped his hands away.
“remember when we used to have band practices after high school?” sungjin reminisced, his attention now directed to the campus band who was performing on the platform stage.
jae smiled. “i haven’t thought about that for a while. wow, i really missed those days.”
you smiled fondly at the memories, remembering the times when you would stay back after school just to watch them practice, listening to the sounds of melodies echoed the gym room.
“y/n was our supporter, isn’t she? she would always sit on the sidelines while she watched us frolicking around with our instruments.” wonpil mentioned.
you chuckled, “i wasn’t the only one. you guys had a huge fanbase in the school going on. you guys literally receive confessions every single day!”
a group of high-school girls would follow behind them in the hallways, often a gift or letter in their hands.
“no, you were totally different. you would bring food for us after school, knowing we would be practicing on an empty stomach, watched us practice without complaining, and give actual helpful suggestions.”
“wow, i’m touched brian.”
your best friend groaned, “brian...? i take back everything about complimenting you.”
you felt your phone vibrated.
“sorry guys, this is my cue to disappear. nayeon needs help with managing the store.” you excused yourself, reading the emergency text from nayeon.
“see you later paddington!”
you shot him a glare, “let’s see how you will have to bear with the consequences later, jae.”
you found nayeon frantically preparing drinks, with many customers watching curiously at the girl who was stressed out.
“thank god you’re here! henry and a couple other helpers decided to ditch me to go watch the band perform, i’m going to kill him later.” nayeon explained.
“i’ll do the snacks. just focus on the drinks okay!”
“thank you! you are the best y/n!”
the both of you spent the next an hour and a half preparing food and drinks before the two of you settled all the orders.
“whew! you don’t mind if i go to the restroom for awhile?” nayeon asked.
“go ahead, i’ll be fine!” you shoo-ed her off.
you began to daydream after you were alone, gazing at the people passing you in a blur.
“hello, can i have one of those?”
you shook your head, breaking away from your reverie.
“i’m so sorry-- jinyoung!” you exclaimed.
the handsome alumni stood in front of you, chuckling at your reaction.
“you’re here!”
“i couldn’t miss this, the festival is always the best.”
you handed him the drink. “it’s okay, it’s on me.”
“kind as ever.”
“well, it’s rather embarrassing to see me in this state.” you sighed.
jinyoung scanned you from head to toe. “you look adorable, what are you talking about?”
“really?”
jinyoung laughed, “two years ago, during my last year here, when the school of arts got spirited away as the theme-- i was the no-face. it was the worst.”
“that was you?”
you recalled flipping through the past years school magazine, remembering crackling out loud at the picture of a frowning no-face.
“that’s my dark past.”
you chattered with jinyoung for a little more, catching up with him on hani, mr. han and his work life.
“y/n! oh, my god! why didn’t you tell me anything?” nayeon said loudly, rushing back to the store.
“what? what’s going on?” you asked, confused.
noticing jinyoung was there, she froze before recomposing herself and shyly greeted, “hello, jinyoung.”
“hey, nayeon.”
henry came running back after nayeon. “y/n! there you are! hurry over to the middle of the campus now!” he informed in between heavy breaths.
“why? are you guys okay? what’s going on?” you asked, concerned with the sudden change of behavior of your friends.
“there’s no time to explain, jinyoung can you follow y/n there?” nayeon asked.
jinyoung, who was also as confused as you, nodded his head.
“sure, i’m meeting hani there too. c’mon let’s go!”
you and jinyoung squeezed through the crowds, heading in the direction where henry had instructed you to go.
it wasn’t far from the place where you and your 5 friends had met up earlier.
“unfortunately, that was the final song from our own campus band. despite that, it is not the end of the performance yet! we have one last-minute addition. also a band, here are sungjin, jae, younghyun, wonpil, and dowoon.” the emcee, jimin announced.
stunned, you turned to look at the stage where your five friends were standing.
“jinyoung, those aren’t my friends... right?”
“they are. and look! there’s hani!”
“let’s start with some self-introductions first.” jimin said.
“i’m jae, from the political science department like my boy, jimin. i’m pretty known around here, follow me on my twitter @/jaesix!”
“the audience didn’t ask for a shameless plug, okay next.” jimin rolled her eyes. jae, unaffected by jimin’s clever comeback, sent a wink towards the audience.
“hi, i’m sungjin. i’m from the faculty of music along with wonpil and dowoon. i will be playing the acoustic guitar.”
“hello, i’m younghyun. i’m from business administration course.”
“hi everyone! i’m wonpil and this guy beside me is dowoon. i play the piano and he plays the drum!” wonpil introduced both himself and the shy dowoon.
a large group of people began to gather near the stage, curious by what was happening on the stage. “i’m going to the front, will you guys be okay?” you asked jinyoung and hani.
“go ahead!” the both of them replied in unison.
you maneuvered through the gaps before finding yourself an open space at the front. younghyun spotted you immediately, sending you a small smile.
“what are you doing?” you mouthed.
he mouthed back, “you’ll see.”
“okay, what will guys be performing today?” jimin asked.
all of them turned and looked at younghyun.
“we’ll be covering two songs then sing one of our self-composed songs. pardon if we don’t sound the best, it’s been a few years since we had a band performance.”
“let’s give them a round of applause!” jimin cheered, slowly backing to the side of the stage.
you watched nervously as they picked up the instruments. they took a moment to familiarise with the instruments and the environment before they started playing.
they started off with wonder girls' ‘nobody’ and it immediately lifted the mood of the audience and everyone began chanting the famous lyrics.
you were awestruck.
they certainly did not sound like a band that had gone on hiatus for a few years. every strum from the guitars and bass were on rhythm, the piano was harmonizing beautifully with the song and every stroke of the drums was on perfect beat.
you felt like you were transported back in time. you were experiencing the exact same feelings you had when you watched your friends jumped around the stage, having the time of their lives as they performed.
you truly missed this feeling.
after covering cnblue’s ‘i’m a loner’, the crowd went even crazier.
“this is a song for someone special, i hope you remember this song.” younghyun said to the microphone in english.
the meeting of two drumsticks commences the final song.
you froze when wonpil began singing the first verse.
why why why do I stare at the ceiling every night?
this song... isn’t it ‘i’m serious’? you felt a feeling of deja vu pulsed through your body.
i gave you so many hints so you can notice but you don’t
you felt your heart beating rapidly.
“...it talks about how this man or woman is seriously in love someone but the person’s acting ambiguous.”
i’m serious my eyes say that i like you why don’t you feel it? my face is so obvious
immediately, you looked at him with an open-mouthed stare, younghyun, at the same time, made eye contact with you.
“confess, serious, feelings… do you think he has a liking towards someone?”
it finally clicked in your head. “the english phrases... they were hints?”
in the end, i just made you listen to useless things and i let you go with a smile why am i like this?
“wait...” your ears perked up at an unfamiliar part of the song that you had never heard before.
i try to start a conversation to figure out how you feel trying to pass it off as a joke but why don’t you know? i’m only looking at you
“speaking of guys, you never seemed to have a guy you like.”
“what do you mean? don’t you remember my super junior phase?” you raised your brows.
younghyun let out a sarcastic laugh, “donghae? i’m speaking realistically.”
you stroked your chin, thinking deeply. “maybe jungkook from bts? he’s cute.”
when the song ended, there was a brief silence before everyone applauded
instead of joining the majority of the audiences with clapping, you were experiencing shortness of breath as the one particular verse of lyrics rang over and over in your head.
i can’t stop loving you
i can’t stop loving you
i can’t stop loving you
how could you not realize that you were the one all along?
when night falls, it concluded the end of the festival.
ever since the end of the performance, you were at a loss for words. you returned back to the store where nayeon and henry bombarded you with burning questions.
“i...i-- i’ll tell you guys later.” you sighed, taking a seat down on one of the plastic chairs.
you kept telling yourself that it was a joke, “no way he likes me, i’m practically like a sister to him.”
you got up from your seat abruptly, breaking your train of thoughts.
“nayeon, i’ll go change first then i’ll come back.”
you needed to get distracted, all these questions were perpetually killing you inside.
after changing out of your stuffy bear costume, you walked back to the store where students were already packing up and preparing to leave campus.
you and nayeon helped carry cardboard boxes with leftover poster back to the studio.
“wanna head for supper later?” she asked you as you closed the studio door.
you were about to excuse yourself for the night but you changed your mind quickly. “sure, i need a few drinks anyway.”
you, nayeon and henry were about to exit the campus before your conscience asked, “i wonder where’s the five of them. i haven’t seen younghyun after the performance too...”
you shook your head. “now is not the time to think about this.
henry had also invited jinyoung and hani to join along.
when the five of you were settled down at the restaurant, henry managed to break the ice by starting the conversation on his character during the festival.
“you have no idea how many side-eyes i received from people today... it was the absolute worst.”
jinyoung laughed, “now you understand how i felt when i dressed up as no-face?”
“that’s different! people still know you are handsome under that layer of face-paint.” henry argued.
“henry please, let this serve as a lesson for you to never be late again for important meetings.” nayeon patted henry’s back.
you and hani burst into waves of laughter.
at that moment, a group of people entered the restaurant and you instantly recognized who they were.
“hey! guys! over here!” henry called them over.
oh no.
jinyoung joined a couple more tables together so that it can fit everyone.
“yo, paddington.”
“jae, are you not going to drop that?” you sighed.
great, why does younghyun have to sit on the opposite?
“y/n! did you see our performance?” wonpil asked excitedly.
you glanced at younghyun, who was looking at you with the same curiosity before answering, “yes! you guys were amazing!”
dowoon did a little drum movement and jae awed at the younger boy’s little action.
“what did you think of the last song we performed?”
you tried to contain your shock from the question, looking at him confusingly.
“what do you mean younghyun?” you acted as if you were clueless, then bringing the glass of alcohol up to your lips.
“you’re such a bad liar y/n.”
why are you doing this to me?
you didn’t respond much after younghyun’s probing.
your nerves were running wild in your body, causing you to fidget slightly. hoping the alcohol would calm you down, you poured the content down your throat again and again.
“hey, enough.” someone took your glass away before you could take another sip.
it was none other than your best friend.
i’m tired. you breathed out exhaustedly, getting up from your seat slowly and said, “i need to head out for some fresh air, don’t mind me.”
once you headed outside, some of the stuffiness from your chest disappeared a little.
you spotted a little playground on the other side of the road and you turned and looked back at the restaurant. “just for a little while.” you mumbled to yourself.
the playground was deserted, there was an air of serenity and it helped relieve a terrible headache you were currently having.
you plopped yourself on the empty swing, slowly moving back and forth as you loosen your neck and let your head dropped.
“i thought we were just good friends. but now... something feels different. if... if i were to... tell you i like you... what would happen?” you spoke, allowing your feelings out in the cold night air.
you looked at him as a friend until you realized you loved him.
credits
sighing deeply, you got up from the swing. “enough dilly-dallying y/n.” you reminded yourself.
looking up, you felt your heart stopped.
“how long have you been here?” you asked cautiously.
“why didn’t you tell me?”
you fell back onto the swing, bringing your hands up as you covered your face.
“y/n...”
“you weren’t supposed to hear that younghyun.”
“i-i’m sorry.”
“don’t be. it’s not your fault i have feelings for you.”
uncovering your shaking hands from your face, you turned and looked up at younghyun with a forced smile, “let’s pretend you didn’t hear anything. i’m going to head back home now, please tell the rest i’m sorry for leaving so suddenly.”
“wait--”
before he could complete his sentence, you hurried off.
the next morning, you woke up in cold sweat.
the incident of the previous night had led you to a sleepless night, despite how tired you were.
“right, it wasn’t a dream.”
reaching out your phone from the nightstand, you checked whether you have any missed calls or messages.
0 missed calls or unread messages.
were you hopeful that he would call or text you after what happened?
probably.
you eventually got out of bed, taking a few minutes to get prepared for school.
unlocking the door, you headed out. you told yourself no matter how much you wanted to hid from him, you have to face your own shame no matter what.
“y/n!”
younghyun?
“oh... wonpil!”
“what are you doing here?” you asked while locking the door.
“ah, younghyun told me to come to wake you up if you overslept.”
you pursed your lips.
“well, i will have to thank him later.”
“he says he’s sorry that he can’t walk you to school today.” wonpil relayed his message.
“it’s okay. you’re here,” you replied.
this was your nightmare coming to life, a slip-up that has suddenly caused an unplanned tension between you and your best friend. for a long time, you’ll be haunted by the fact that everything will be awkward between the two of you, he’ll be reminded by your one-sided love while you’ll be reminded by your embarrassment.
no wonder he called wonpil to walk with me to school.
the two of you walked to school together, except the fact that this daily routine was replaced by wonpil.
after a short walking distance, you and wonpil finally reached campus.
“y/n! wonpil!”
“dowoon?”
wonpil and dowoon shared a look.
“i’ll take y/n from here.” dowoon smiled, linking arms with you as he dragged you away from wonpil.
“dowoon... what is going on?”
“you’ll see.”
after climbing multiple steps of stairs and take random turns, the two of you stopped in front of the recording studio.
“once you head in, go into the recording booth and put on the headphones okay?” dowoon instructed.
you nodded your head slowly, following his instructions although you perplexed by what was going to happen.
in the recording booth, you put on the headphones carefully.
“y/n, can you hear me? if yes, speak to the microphone.” dowoon asked.
you gave a thumbs up. “yup. crystal clear.”
“someone is going take over and give you further instructions, hold on~”
you watched from behind the glass panel as dowoon got up from his seat and left the recording studio.
“huh?”
checking your phone, you realized you only have an hour before lecture.
“what are the two of you up to?” you were about to send a text to wonpil and dowoon before a music began to play in your ears.
in life, there aren’t many days when things go your way there are more days when it didn’t go my way will today be another one of those days? i am pretty worried
after I tell you these words i’m not sure if we can go back to smiling like we are now but I have to i
like you i tried holding it back but i can’t anymore now i can tell you i want to love you
your phone slipped out of your hand, landing on the soft carpet as you listened to the chorus.
“who?” you whispered, turning and faced the glass panel.
someone else was inside the studio with you, and it was neither wonpil nor dowoon.
it was someone you had least expected to be there with you, observing you intently with an indescribable expression.
i’ve thought of you like this but if you don’t feel the same
you just need to tell me “i’m sorry” and i’ll be fine
like you i tried holding it back but i can’t anymore now i can tell you i want to love you
you could feel the emotions building up your body as the violins (or an orchestra) joined with the final chorus of the song, and you bit your lips from trembling.
when the song ended, he finally spoke, “i hope my song expresses what i want to say to you.”
you sucked in a deep breathed, then spoke into the mic.
“you don’t have to do this just because i like you.”
he smiled, “why not?”
why?
“you must’ve have pitied me because i’m your close friend. you didn’t want to feel bad for rejecting me because you’re afraid your guilt will eat you up.”
he let out a laugh. “y/n, why in the world would i do that to you?”
you sighed, removing your headphones and headed out.
“y/n... where are you going?”
he held your arm just as you were about to leave the studio.
“younghyun, don’t you understand? we’re friends, for a very long time. i’m afraid after this moment, i’m not sure we can go back to being normal, being friends. i don’t want to lose you because of my feelings for you.”
he loosened his grip on your arm.
“what if i don’t want to y/n?”
“what...?”
“what if i don’t want to be just friends, y/n? can’t you see? please, look at me. it took me a lot of courage to do this. ever since you got close to jinyoung, i went crazy. completely out of my mind. when i found out from jinyoung that you rejected him, i was ecstatic! from there onwards, i began to drop you hints... well in english because i was still scared. you weren’t the only one scared of losing this friendship y/n, i was terrified! every day, my feelings for you blossomed, and i don’t think i should hold back anymore. what i’m saying is, i like you y/n.”
you were astonished by his words.
after all, a man that you had been crushing on finally proclaimed his romantic feelings for you.
“i-i... is this a dream?” this was all you could muster out of your mouth.
sighing, younghyun lowered his body. the next thing he did literally pull the soul right out of your body.
he pressed his lips against your forehead, then proceeded in embracing you.
“is this still a dream?” he whispered in your ears.
you felt your vision blurred, a giggle escaped your lips as you embraced him back.
“you’re not crying are you?”
“stop it! these are tears of happiness, you idiot!”
a chuckle erupted from his throat, “well, that’s good to hear.”
there were cheerings from outside the door, and you and younghyun could easily guess who they were.
“wow our boy bribri beat us all here in getting a girl first!” jae exclaimed, his fingers furiously typing a new tweet talking about his single life.
@/youngk93 got a gf today, why am i still single #whyamialone #singlelife #tindercan’tevengetmeagf
wonpil and dowoon pressed their ears against the door while intertwining their fingers together.
“wonpil and dowoon, give them some privacy please.” sungjin grabbed them each by collars.
jae wiggled his brows, “yeah, give them some privacy. go get it brian!”
sungjin continued to drag wonpil and dowoon away. “jae, can you hurry up and for once, stop using your goddamn phone.”
“hold on-- i’m reading the comments! wait--! @/jiminpark07 replied to your tweet: look at yourself in the mirror first b4 asking why you are alone, loser. dude, she’s asking for trouble.”
the day finally ended with you resting on your bed, relaxing your sore back as you looked up at the ceiling, a content smile plastered on your face.
the only sounds in your room were the snorings coming from the person beside you.
you turned and faced him, reaching out and lightly traced the side of his face.
“i always felt a little alone and scared in this small, empty apartment. however today, it suddenly felt so full, just because you are here with me.”
you slowly shimmied closer to him, careful not to wake him up from his deep slumber.
“i’d like to be with you all the time, create as many memories together as possible.”
although he never told you this yet, you are his sun, his moon, and all his stars.
end.

Moonvale's Pokemon Commentary: #586 Sawsbuck
Tumblr media
Just for Looks:
Sawsbuck is just what you'd expect from Deerling's evolution an adult deer antlers and all. I'm disappointed however that they didn't use gender differences where it would make some of the most sense. Maybe they couldn't figure out a way to handle the seasons theme without antlers and not making it look too similar to Deerling itself?
Anyway, the different seasonal forms have a wide variety of differences to tell them apart by silhouette alone and I love that. The lines separating the body colors in Sawsbuck look much more natural and I have no complaints on it like I did Deerling. Though again I'd say the Spring form is the least interesting for me. I don't really like the cut branch with flowers stuck to it look of the antlers. They need some spring green leaves on there as well. Its body could have used some differentiation to help it stand out as well. As it is, if you remove the antlers it is difficult to tell apart from the Fall Sawsbuck save for the very slightly brighter pink markings on their backs. And Fall, while still my favorite of them, could have used a more red-orange color on their leaves instead of the darker pink. Maybe give it some more rough fur on its back around its shoulder blades.
I will say however I absolutely love the look of Summer Sawsbuck's tail and the hair on the back of its neck. The only complaint I have about it is how awkward the green spots on its back look. Winter looks unpleasant in a totally different way from Spring. Its antlers are alright, though awkward with being nothing more than solid white. It may have looked better with pine needles on some of the branches or maybe just little hints of snow on them or maybe even just dark brown with nothing on them at all. The change from cream to snow white on the body is very nice; though those legs... they look like they'd be awful to walk with. You ever seen how snow balls up in the lower fur of dogs with longer hair when they run around outside too long? I can only imagine that happening to these poor things' legs!
When it comes to the shinies... I haven't much to say. The differences are simple; the brown is more orange and the cream is again lighter. It's not much of a visible change but the lighter orange is still quite lovely.
I mentioned the gender differences earlier. Here's how I'd have handled it. Obviously, the females would not have horns. Instead, the seasonal references would be on their backs and around their necks. Sort of like decorative wreathes. Flowers and leaves for Spring, full leaves and maybe some berries for Summer, fall leaves and branches for Fall, and pine with white mistletoe berries for Winter! If I'd had any decent skill and a computer drawing tool I'd totally doodle up some sketches!
What's in the Name:
Sawsbuck's name.. that is a thing. A sawbuck is apparently an object to hold wood while it's being sawn. A Buck's also an adult male deer obviously, though if there were dimorphism the translator may have given it a different name what with the design not being straight male coded. It's Japanese name is Mebukijika (not as fun to say as Deerling's sadly), possibly from Mebuki (to bud) and like Deerling, Shika (deer). This one makes less sense to me compared to Deerling's Japanese name. Though if their Japanese names were switched it might make more sense with Deerling being a bud, and Sawsbuck being a better example of the four seasons.
The 'Dex Says:
Sawsbuck migrate according to the seasons. Deer migrate so it's a reasonable thing, but it seems strange for a creature that naturally changes with the seasons to need to migrate at all? I suppose finding food would be more difficult in winter, but yeah. The heard leaders have magnificent horns (clearly the ones we can catch aren't really these. :P), and the plants that grow on their antlers- so the antlers aren't plants themselves!- change with the seasons at well. Now I'm just picturing spring coming around and pink flower decorated young Sawsbuck having antler fights over females.. who might have bigger horns than them. And that is hilarious to me for some reason. Not much else to say about the dex entry.. it's pretty vanilla.
It's Rating Time!
Tumblr media
Like Deerling, I'll give Sawsbuck a 4/5. A lovely pretty deer... for the most part.
But Wait, There's More:
Tumblr media
Before seasons were brought into Black/White, Sawsbuck had already been conceptualized... and for the love of Arceus that is one terrifying creature. Look at that. Look at it. It's like the Spirit of the Forest from Princess Mononoke had a baby with a moss covered willow tree. Fun fact: I am absolutely terrified of that creature. I had a nightmare about it when I was like 11 or 12 after seeing the movie and I’ve been skeeved ever since. Even now I get a feeling that would give me Ghibli hair frizzing when I see its face. I picture it stretching its neck like a hellish giraffe to look around corners at me. Thank goodness Sawsbuck's design was changed to look like a real deer instead. Otherwise I might have force fed every Deerling I saw powdered everstones. And thank Arceus that a certain legendary deer didn't get given the look instead!

Side Swapper Introduction: Shadow Weaver
Introduction Name: Daesii Ta’arkin Soelle Also Known As: Tarquin Soul (originally by Cynthia, later his human world alias and preferred name), Tarq Age: 17 Birthday: January 28th Species: Hybrid. Half shadow meister, half feldarhl Blood Type: Unknown Astrological Sign: Aquarius Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Past/Bio: Tarquin was born as the second son of Crothe, king of a dimension named Death Valley, and his second wife. The two were forced to marry and produce a child by the kingdom's council, in an attempt to strengthen the meister species as it suffered from plague. As he was an unwanted child, he sometimes found it difficult to bond with his parents, and bonded better with his father and his brother's mother than he did his own mother, though this was likely primarily due to the fact that the valley was having an extreme negative impact on his mother's mental state. Having the ability to sense life and death, and considering the poor state of his kingdom, Tarquin also found life in the valley to be emotionally damaging to him, despite the fact that he knew nothing else. Being royalty in a time of unrest, Tarquin and his family were targets of abduction and assassination attempts, and when the culprits were caught they were often tortured for information and then executed publicly, things Tarquin either witnessed first hand or was aware of anyway due to his sensory abilities. As he ended up being susceptible to the plague sweeping his home dimension, Tarquin was often kept isolated, only allowed to see his tutor and parents at set times of the day, though his elder brother often broke isolation to see him. When he was seven, his older brother told him about the stories his human mother had told him of her home, and how it sounded like a paradise, and how shadow meisters could open rifts to that world. Okolio, the elder brother, took Tarquin to this world to start a new life, as both of them found the valley to be a disturbing and scary place. Earth honestly wasn't that much better for them, being a loud, bright and confusing place with overwhelming sensory input, and, being children, they clearly hadn't thought things through and had to go from living in a palace as royalty to trying to survive on the streets. Eventually, their behaviour on the streets and their abnormal appearances had them catching the attention of others, specifically three other super powered youths, around the age of Okolio. Two of these three teenagers, Nolan and Edward, wanted to become vigilante heroes for reasons Tarquin never really understood, and convinced the other three boys to join them in their dumb hero work. The team even was vaguely successful, for a group of stupid kids playing hero. They did actually stop a few crimes here and there. This all ended when a pro hero by the name of Greenfield slaughtered Okolio during one of the kids' 'missions'. Unable to do anything but bear witness to the murder, Tarquin began to think about tracking down the man who killed his brother and getting revenge. The others in his team were unable to get him to come away from this new obsession, and the team as a whole began to come apart at the seams. Eventually, during a particularly nasty argument, Tarquin lost control of his powers, causing severe injury to the self-appointed team leader, Edward. He later died from his injuries, and Tarquin fled. He later joined a school claiming to aid those with powers, hoping to learn to control them. This is where he had his first encounter with the heroes, who had infiltrated the school after a tip off that the school was actually a cover for a group wishing to capture subjects for experimentation, similar to if not the same as the facilities that held Luca or Ruby Dagger. Tarquin himself never learnt their plans, and wasn't at all interested in the deeper secrets of the organisation. He was just there to learn to control his powers. When the chaos kicked off, rather than lend anyone a hand, he used his powers to make a getaway. From that point on, his clashes with the heroes tended to be as a result of him causing trouble, either due to poor power control, committing crimes to survive or as part of his drive to track down Greenfield. Plus, he just now generally had a petty dislike of heroes, so he liked causing them trouble. When he finally did manage to track down his brother's killer, he found himself very ill equip to deal with him or take him down, and came away from the resulting fight badly injured. In moments, it seemed like everything had changed, as Greenfield put a bounty on his head in the underworld and he found himself being hunted. Injured, starving and scared, with nowhere to turn to, in desperation he fled to Circle Headquarters to beg for help. Being good people at their core, the heroes agreed to help him. In time, he agreed to help save others again, and was drafted into a new hero team, where the other heroes on his team could watch over him and make sure he behaves. About Him/Her Personality: Tarquin is a quiet person who finds it difficult to trust others. He wants to see the good in people, but is so used to people baring their worst that it is difficult to see past that. He has low self-esteem due to his poor health and lack of control, and never truly learnt how to deal with his emotions. His powers make him quite sensitive and he finds he is easily upset. Regardless of this, due to his shy nature and lack of trust towards others, Tarquin prefers not to burden others with his concerns or worries, and tries to keep himself to himself. He finds himself often thinking along one train of thought in an almost obsessive nature, and struggles to change focus. Occupation: Hero, crown prince of Death Valley Likes: Shiny things The dark Picture books Plants and animals Photographs and the memories they hold Dislikes: Greasy food Loud and chaotic environments People who try and pry into his personal life Sweet food and smells Himself, probably Hobbies: Sightseeing, learning new things Fears: Death, mostly. Also one time Nolan showed him what Pokemon are. He finds them terrifying and is glad they are only fictional. Due to all the death he sensed at hospitals in his home dimension, he also finds being in and around medical buildings and rooms makes him very uncomfortable. Strength: Tarquin knows his limits well and knows when he can and cannot push himself. His sensory abilities help with stealth and allow him to avoid detection. Weakness: Tends not to mention important information, such as dietary requirements, which leads to his poor health. His inability to trust others causes problems of its own, as does his obsessive personality. He also has poor control over his own powers, which can easily cause him to accidentally harm his own allies. Talents: Tarquin isn't sure what his individual talents are. He's sure everyone has a talent or two, but no-one's ever called him talented for anything involving not using his powers. Appearance Height: 6'3 Cup Size: N/A Skin Tone: Powder blue Eye Color: Blue Hair Description: - Color: Black - Highlights: N/A - Length: Shoulder length - Style: Shaggy, unkempt - Worn: Loose Extra: - Scars: Tarquin's scars are mostly across his arms and torso, and so are most commonly covered by clothing. - Piercings: Nasal stud on the left side. - Tattoos: N/A - Facial Features: As a carnivore, his teeth are very different to those of a human. If they were to be compared to an animal, they would be most like those of a feline. - Scent: Well, his breath probably smells a bit vomity...otherwise I don't normally think about what my characters might smell like. Whatever the others wash his clothes in and whatever body washes are available, tbh, he doesn't care. Then again, tea tree and mint shampoo has a really nice smell to it in his opinion, so maybe that. - Other: Underweight, black claw-like nails. Relationships Father: Crothe Mother: Noth Siblings: An older half-brother named Okolio, and a younger half-sister named Viahar Relatives: Step-mothers Cynthia and Han-Linn Best Friends: Unsure. He supposes he would consider Whisper and Hex to be his closest friends at the moment. He also is very fond of Persephone. Friends: The other members of his team, certainly. Love Interest: Whisper, Persephone (formerly), Lolyo (formerly) Hero Information Code/Hero Name: Shadow Weaver Place of Origin: Death Valley, Shadow Dimension Residence: Australia Affiliations:  Teen Titans, Circle, Hellwing Academy Team Mates: Whisper, Hex, Crayon, Zhen, Astral, Shard, Beacon, Luca (current team) Leo, Lolyo, Demon, Edward (Old team) Mentors: Potentially the members of his previous team would count, as well as the members of his current team. Allies: Circle and Squad. His allies as a villain are probably all gone now. Enemies: The main one is probably Greenfield. He's also pretty sure Nolan has been manipulating him for ages and he's also just made loads of enemies in general. Powers and Abilities: Flight, shadow manipulation, electrokinesis, the ability to open rifts between worlds and the ability to sense lifeforms, but not identify them - for instance, he could tell you a building is occupied, but not if it's occupied by people or vermin. His ability to sense life also doubles as an ability to sense the moment of death. Weapons: None Transportation: Prefers to travel on foot or via his powers, but will travel by vehicles if he must. Extra Information Quotes: "I can't trust them not to hurt you...that's the problem." "We don't need subtle!" Theme Song: Never Turn Back - Crush 40 Food: Beef, beef is good Drink: Plain water Color: Baby blue Animal: Birds Flower: Imperial Hysen, a flower native to his home world. They are a rare, large plant that grow few and far between. Their leaves are small, and of a very pale green colour, and the flowers that grow are large and can come in dark pink or powder blue with layered petals. Season: Spring

2017 in review
I always say that I’m going to post a “how my year was” at the end of the year, but I have an awful memory so I never remember what happened in each month. This year, I tried to post about each month as it finished- the good and the bad. Under a cut because of course it got long, and I never seem to post about my real life, so this may be boring if you don’t actually know me.
January
Got a snow day after having students for just one day
Accidentially read a book in one night (Perfect) because of aforementioned snow day/borrowing it electronically from the library/not knowing how many pages there were (not that many since it’s YA)
Got two more snow/ice days because my county has mountains in it and we’re in the South, so we’re not prepared for winter
Saw Hidden Figures and cried about how good humanity can be when we actually allow and encourage all people to be their best (black women!!!! they did that!!!!!!!)
Helped my students navigate our county’s program of going one-to-one with Chromebooks (there were many good things, such as getting my kids to play freerice for extra credit; there were many bad things, such as a quiz getting screwed up because I shuffled the questions but had asked my co-teacher to help me by reading the quiz [as she normally does] to a half dozen students...who all had a different order of questions...).
Went to a conference for new teachers and while a lot of the information was repetitive, there were a few things I got from it (such as 6.5 professional development hours aw yis).
Got to see lots of family I don’t usually see on this weekend!
Started reading The Diary of Anne Frank with my students because this country allowed fascism to be A Thing™ and I’m going to resist however I can.
Got two (!!!!!!) days off at the end of January for sick days (apparently other students in the county? not us but we benefitted!!!!)
February
Finally had an entire 5-day week of school
Then got another two days off for sickness (8th grade was doing our part by asking ENTIRE classes “Hey! Anyone feel sick? Anyone want to go get their temp checked???”)
Went to an open house at a local mosque, and y’all, I live in The South™ but their parking lot filled up a good 15 minutes before the event even started and there was an overflow room and so much support for this community during the Muslim Ban and it just filled my heart with joy
Got a haircut (it was literally down to my butt y’all!!!!) and now it’s right below my shoulders
Had pedal extensions installed in my car because I’m 4′9 and would have literally died if the airbags went off.
March
Got my professional teaching license! I’m no longer an apprentice! I don’t have to have 4 observations a year!!! Only 2! And while I’m REALLY good at playing the observation game (and am MUCH better at this than the testing game), it will be nice to not think about it so much.
My mom came to stay for a few days because it was her and my sister’s spring break.
During that week, I had a LONG 4 day week, which included staying at my school until 7:30 for a town hall meeting/carnival/extravaganza. F U N.
My spring break was purposefully low-key. I rested a lot, read books, caught up on Netflix, shopped at Old Navy, and went to the local art museum for the first time (I’ve only been in this city for 8 years...)
April
I found that I actually enjoy teaching how to write an essay. The 5 paragraph essay, while it has many faults, is a really good place for beginning writers (which 8th graders are) to begin. I had a student tell me that she liked how I made each sentence have a specific purpose because she was able to plug in her evidence and thoughts more easily- this honestly made my whole day.
That being said, I HATE teaching essays when students are absent. Trying to get them caught up and keep everyone else on track is SO MUCH WORK. Especially when the absent students don’t come to me during my plan to make up their work...
For two whole days, my last period class was not allowed to use erasers because some people (two boys, as it turned out) were shredding and throwing them at each other.
I turned 26
The Welcome to Night Vale Live Show FINALLY TRAVELED TO TENNESSEE AND Y’ALL CECIL (REAL CECIL NOT THE CHARACTER) IS FROM KNOXVILLE!!!! The weather singer was super fun (she played Rocky Top and we ate that shit up like biscuits and gravy with no shame whatsoever) and the show itself was just so much fun even though I went alone. It was almost an hour of normal segments with the plot of the glow cloud, but they also brought in Steve Carlsburg and Tamika Flynn (I diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied when she walked on stage because I majorly crush on that actress whoops) and watching those actors interact on stage was so much fun.
May
End of the school year is always chaotic and better left forgotten tbh
We took the 8th graders to the local theme park, and it was really good (though my expectations were super low because last year’s trip SUCKED). The weather looked like it might rain, but it was nice all day, the kids were pretty good, and the rides were fun.
There were some really sad community deaths around this time :(
The teacher who normally MCs the 8th grade commencement is now an administrator, so while we still had him open the ceremony, I gave out several of the awards, and I don’t think I did a bad job (two of the other teachers hate public speaking and the last one was new to the team this year, so I was really the only choice).
June
Worked my church’s festival, which is always fun. The crowds are never what they ought to be (due to a combination of rain threats and poor marketing), so a lot of people missed out on some really great food and music.
Great music included a new band- Southern Avenue- that I got to see again later in the year.
I had to miss the third day of the festival because of a friend’s baby shower. I knew a few people (besides the couple), but they left early; luckily, the people throwing it were a lot of fun. We played games (don’t get caught saying “baby”; pin the sperm on the egg; etc) and decorated diapers/onesies/bibs for the baby). The next day, we went to church (IN A MOTHERFUCKING MONSOON) and for Mexican food.
Started my reread of Harry Potter (it had been about 5 years since I’d last read the series). I cried in almost every book, and not always at sad parts. I’ve become very protective of Harry as I’ve gotten older.
My younger brother found an NES, which was the console I grew up with and my parents gave away years ago. They really loved to play on it, so this was a wedding anniversary present for them. The Legend of Zelda is the shit.
July
I finally got a new phone (I’d had mine about 3 years, and it died in May) and I know it’s fun for iphone users to shit on Android users, but I really do love the camera quality on my Samsung.
Rachel came to visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We drank wine and went to the zoo and got real bbq and the best donuts in the world
Had a Treat Yo Self Day which included:
WAFFLE HOUSE
BITCH!!!! B I T C H
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN GET AT THE WAFFLE HOUSE
DO
YOU
KNOW
COUNTRY HASHBROWNS!!!!!
aka
biscuits and gravy minus the biscuits plus the hashbrowns
I just had regular biscuits and gravy BUT ALLI HAD THE GLORY
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McKay’s
I bought Pokemon yellow because I never played/watched it as a kid, and while at my house for the summer, I found the old black & white gameboy an older cousin gave me, so naturally I had to do it.
Pokemon Go
yes still
You know what once I was back in town I went to my favorite library almost every day for an hour or two and read while opening Pokemon Go every few minutes so there
Went with some of my best friends to visit another one of our best friends who lives in the middle of fucking nowhere and had adventures including, but not limited to: getting pizza because we were too weak to change out the gas’s grill, waiting 5ever for food at dinner, and watching the entire Flowers in the Attic series.
August
School started back up, and at the kick-off for all the teachers, I won $500 in a drawing of all the people who hadn’t used a sick day last year!!!!!
And I didn’t even realize that I’d won $200 at the previous school board meeting in the same type drawing!!!!
New class started off with 85 students. It was a DREAM to be able to focus on individuals and not just herd cats.
I actually felt more confident in the classroom with my early units (poetry & our whole class novel).
September
Still felt confident in the classroom!
I got my testing scores back from the previous year (this shit takes 5ever and it’s dumb) and did better in about the only way I could have, so that was good to see.
I had about 10 county people in my classroom (principals, academic coaches, etc) to see a certain style of teaching ELA that the county is working on. It’s basically making sure that teachers keep students engaged in complex text (which is what I do almost every day anyway) and I had been to two of these trainings already, so I knew what sort of lesson worked. Well...they LOVED it!!! The kids were in small groups and did SO GOOD discussing evidence/answering questions (they all got candy afterwards) and I got some good feedback about how I talk to my students. Then that same day the superintendent came in my room (one of several rooms he visited while doing his yearly observation on the principal). That visit was super unannounced, but still fine.
The academic coach got rid of my classroom’s desks and found tables and chairs instead!!!! My classroom is tiny and weird shaped, so this works SO MUCH BETTER.
I help coach volleyball (aka I keep the books) and the girls won district (beating out a team with a redneck grandma in the stands who literally came up to our girls and yelled at them for cheering on their own damn team in the previous game). They didn’t do so well at sectionals, but that’s ok.
October
Holy shit I won another $200 in that drawing!!! And this time my parents let me buy them plane tickets so we could see family over Christmas.
LESLIE ODOM JR CAME TO MY CITY AND HE PERFORMED BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND I WAS THERE AND I DIED
Got to see a lot of family at my cousin’s ‘wedding party’ (he got married last year in Europe since he met his now wife over there, and wanted to have a family party here). I learned that my uncle and his son dance exactly the same at the same level of alcohol.
November
I should have known something was up when my first 9 weeks went so well. Apparently my county is in the bottom tier for the state, and now everyone is freaking out (never mind that the data to support this was mONTHS LATE AND BASED ON STANDARDIZED TESTS WHICH WERE A CLUSTERFUCK TO BEGIN WITH) so there was a lot of school stress during this time.
Nice things though- got to see friends when their baby was baptized and went home for Thanksgiving, where my dad came into the Catholic Church.
I organized most of the 8th grade field trip for the semester- going to see “A Christmas Carol” put on by my old college’s theatre. I was stressed the entire time because if something went wrong it would be on ME, but it was absolutely wonderful and I cried which honestly surprised me. We went to the local mall for our lunch and it was good to see the kids just relax. It was a great field trip and several people including the principal thanked me for my hard work which felt great after a hard month.
December
School was nothing but survival mode per usual.
Hosted the Christmas party for my friend group at church and it was a lot of fun.
The actual break was fast- we flew to Texas with one of my mom’s sisters and her family to visit their brother and his family. I hadn’t been to Texas since high school, so it was fun to explore and eat good food.
My final count for books was 93 (67 new and 26 reread) (I’m trying to finish an audiobook I’m borrowing from the library but I still have 80 minutes left and literally 4 hours to finish it so we’ll see!!!).
