🐎 Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that affects horses worldwide. It is transmitted by ticks and can cause severe health problems if left untreated. Unfortunately, the symptoms of Lyme disease in horses are often overlooked or misdiagnosed, leading to chronic health issues. 🔍 As a horse owner, it is essential to recognize the signs of Lyme disease in your equine companion. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and can include lameness, fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Early detection and treatment are crucial to preventing long-term health problems. 💉 In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the various symptoms of Lyme disease in horses, how it is diagnosed, and the available treatment options. We will also discuss preventative measures you can take to protect your horse from contracting Lyme disease. Stay informed and keep your horse healthy!1. Understanding Lyme Disease in Horses: Causes and TransmissionLyme disease in horses is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted through tick bites. Symptoms include fever, lameness, and lethargy. Diagnosis is done through blood tests. Prevention is key, use tick repellents, and check horses regularly. Treatment includes antibiotics and supportive care. 🐴🦟2. Early Signs and Symptoms of Lyme Disease in Horses🐴 Early detection of Lyme disease in horses is crucial for effective treatment. Here are some of the early signs and symptoms to look out for: 🔍 Lameness or stiffness, especially in the legs 🔍 Loss of appetite or weight loss 🔍 Lethargy or depression 🔍 Fever or elevated temperature 🔍 Swollen lymph nodes 🐴 These symptoms may come and go, making it difficult to diagnose Lyme disease. If you notice any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately. 🐴 Early treatment with antibiotics can prevent the disease from progressing and causing more severe symptoms. 🐴 Prevention is key. Protect your horse from tick bites by using tick repellents, checking for ticks daily, and keeping your horse's environment clean and free of tall grass and brush. 🐴 Remember, early detection and treatment are essential for the well-being of your horse. Stay vigilant and keep your horse healthy!3. Advanced Symptoms of Lyme Disease in Horses: What to Look Out ForAs Lyme disease progresses, horses may exhibit advanced symptoms that require immediate attention. Look out for: Neurological issues: stumbling, seizures, head tilt, and facial paralysis. Joint pain: lameness, stiffness, and swelling. Cardiac problems: irregular heartbeat, fainting, and sudden death. Respiratory distress: coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms can occur weeks or months after initial infection. If you suspect Lyme disease, consult a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment. Early detection is crucial for successful recovery. 🐴💉4. Diagnosis and Treatment of Lyme Disease in Horses: A Step-by-Step GuideDiagnosis and Treatment of Lyme Disease in Horses Step 1: Recognize the symptoms - fever, joint pain, lethargy, and lameness. Step 2: Consult with a veterinarian for a blood test to confirm the diagnosis. Step 3: Administer antibiotics for at least 4-6 weeks. Step 4: Monitor the horse's response to treatment and adjust as necessary. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in preventing chronic Lyme disease in horses. Antibiotics such as tetracycline or doxycycline are effective in treating Lyme disease in horses. However, it's important to follow the veterinarian's instructions and complete the full course of antibiotics. It's also important to provide supportive care, such as pain relief and joint supplements, to help the horse recover. Regular check-ups with the veterinarian are necessary to monitor the horse's progress and prevent any complications. Prevention is key in avoiding Lyme disease in horses. Keep pastures and stables clean, use tick repellents, and check horses for ticks regularly. Early detection and treatment can lead to a full recovery for horses with Lyme disease. 🐴💉5. Preventing Lyme Disease in Horses: Tips and Strategies for Horse OwnersProtect your horse from Lyme disease with these tips: Keep pastures and barns clean and dry. Use tick repellents and insecticides. Check your horse for ticks daily. Remove ticks immediately with tweezers. Consult with your veterinarian for vaccinations. Early detection is key to preventing Lyme disease: Watch for symptoms such as fever and lameness. Get your horse tested for Lyme disease. Start treatment early with antibiotics. Prevent Lyme disease in your horse's environment: Clear brush and tall grasses. Use fencing to keep wildlife out. Limit exposure to tick-infested areas. Stay vigilant and protect your horse from Lyme disease: Monitor your horse's health regularly. Keep up with tick prevention measures. Consult with your veterinarian for any concerns. 🐴🦟🚫 Don't let Lyme disease harm your horse. Take action to prevent it!6. Long-Term Effects of Lyme Disease in Horses: What You Need to KnowLong-term effects of Lyme disease in horses can be detrimental to their health. Here's what you need to know: Chronic lameness and joint pain can occur Neurological issues such as seizures and ataxia can develop Behavioral changes may include aggression or depression Reproductive problems can arise in mares and stallions Early detection and treatment are key to preventing long-term effects. Consult with your veterinarian if you suspect your horse has been exposed to ticks. Prevention is also important. Use tick repellents and keep pastures mowed and free of debris. Check your horse regularly for ticks and remove them promptly. Proper nutrition and exercise can help boost your horse's immune system and reduce the risk of long-term effects from Lyme disease. Don't ignore the signs of Lyme disease in horses. With prompt treatment and preventative measures, you can help your horse stay healthy and happy. 🐴💚 In conclusion, Lyme disease is a serious condition that can affect horses of all ages and breeds. He was such a sweetheart with lots of love to give. He adopted us about a month ago, & I had not managed to get him to the vet yet for spaying & vaccines. (All of my others are up to date). Unfortunately he contracted a tick-borne illness & had to be euthanized despite the clinic’s best efforts. That was the hardest thing I have ever watched an animal go through & it is so heartbreaking. So I post this as a reminder to everyone, that ticks are horrible. Take care of your fur babies, and take care of yourselves. I wouldn’t wish this on any animal or on any human.

This is my friend Paige Spencer @ps_blue_eyes and she could really use your help. She has been in and out of the hospital a LOT and is still fighting. She has such a wonderful spirit and if you can donate to her #gofundme (link below and in her bio or just search "Paige Spencer's Fight to Survive" on the GoFundMe website) please, please do! #Lyme and other #tickbornediseases are grating away at her life and just 3 days ago, this is what she wrote along with her post: " I want to be at home in bed 😢 I'm so tired of fighting. If they send me home I'm scared I might not get through this. I'm to the point I'm vomiting bile and my bowel has stopped functioning. But they won't do anything until you're dying. I'm tired of being neglected. I'm tired of suffering 😓 lord I need prayers to get me through this. In a really dark place right now. #backagain #hospital #emergency #exhausted #pleashelp #ambulance #chronicillness " Please help my fellow #lymewarrior as she is going through some REALLY serious, life threatening things! The money that's shown as raised on her GoFundMe has already been spent due to medical costs. Anything helps! #LymeDisease #lymewarriors #lymediseaseawareness #lymeawareness #tickborneillness #lymie #lymies #lymelife #lymesucks #lymeadvocate #donate #lymekills #helpingseason Here's the @gofundme link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/paige-spencer039s-fight-to-survive https://www.instagram.com/p/CIvu0SiBm6h/?igshid=1h3xc1yaqfari

On Monday I went to my Chronic Pain doctor to get another Lidocaine IV. The Lidocaine has been helping me a lot. I'm not in enough pain to be taking meds for it everyday. I think the weather is also contributing to how low my pain is as well. On Wednesday I went for a walk outside for the first time in a while. I was able to walk with limited pain. But now that my pain has decreased I find my fatigue is my most prominent symptom, this makes it so hard to do anything at all. My insomnia doesn't help this either 😒 Today I spent the day trying to edit my rock collection video, I spent 3 hours editing today but I'm still no where near done. I made a big Mexican style kale salad today. My mom loved it so much when I had made it the other night ago that I thought when I made it today I would Vlog it. That will be in an upcoming Vlog! Tomorrow we are going to the Wildlife Park! It's quite a drive (2 hours)! I hope my back and neck can handle the drive. I'm also kinda worried they may not have wheelchairs at the wildlife park. I haven't been there in a few years, last I was there they had them but it's always a worry that they won't. While my pain has been much better, I still can't walk for more than 10-15 minutes without being in a lot of pain. Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow. I will also be vlogging it and taking plenty of pictures!💚💚 #IV #Lidocaine #ChronicPain #ChronicLyme #LymeDisease #LymeDiseaseAwareness #LymeDontKillMyVibe #Lymie #ChronicFatigueSyndrome #Fibromyalgia #ChronicIllness #ChronicallyIll #InvisibleIllness #InfectiousDisease #Insomnia #Fatigue #Babesia #Borrelia #Bartonella #TBD #TickBorneIllness #TickBorneDisease #Disabled #Disability #Spoonie #myphotos #MECFS

Of course the road ahead of us was LONG and the visits for sedation and chemo proved to be just as emotionally charged as the hospital stay! But still an amazing memory to be celebrated nonetheless!! Chronic Lyme KILLS. It ruins lives. It tears families apart and empties life savings. So when a primary care doctor I've just met asks me if my SPECIALISTS IVE SEEN FOR TWO YEARS were SURE what I had was really Lyme after exclaiming that I was on a lot of medications (I hadn't even told her the supplements), it was hard not to lose it especially after she said "well you hear of those Lyme loons who diagnose their patients with Lyme, put them on tons of meds and take all their money". 😑After being diagnosed I have poured my heart, soul, brain, and life into understanding what makes Lyme disease and it's co-infections tick and how they affect so many people and animals. It is a physicians JOB to stay updated on current medical research and news. The fact that I have to explain the disease (and how I know so much) to my own doctors is most of the time just mildly annoying, but today after all that I've been through these past few months it was enough to make me have a panic attack on the way home. All I could think of was what about those patients who don't know better than to fully trust that their doctor knows all? What about the guy who was on deaths door a couple years ago with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and MS (who was now walking into my Lyme doctor's office and forming full sentences) if someone that cared about him didn't stop to think that it may be something else? It angers and depresses me that this is the current healthcare system. Patients are dying and suffering while this disease gets more and more political. Research SHOWS chronic lyme is not a lie, long term antibiotics are a vital portion of the treatment regimen, and lyme is passed congenitally. Patients aren't lying or making it up when they say they're suffering. And I won't even start on the co-infections and their difficulties. 😡😡#fedup #tired #tickborneillness #ticks #vectorborne #lyme #lymedisease #lymefighter #idsaguidelinesharmpatients #lymedvmstats #lymediseaseawarenessmonth #lymediseaseawareness #lymediseasewarrior #chroniclyme #chronicpain #chronicillness

I filmed the rest of my rock collection video yesterday! It took me nearly three hours to film but I think it'll end up being a good video! I was exhausted after filming and it's probably why I'm so tired today. That and the fact that I went to sleep with a migraine last night, and woke up multiple times while sleeping. Ugh I wish I could get a good sleep for once in my life 😔⠀ Today I'm not doing much. I might use the Rife Machine later on today but I don't know yet. I'm so tired I can hardly move from my bed. I just feel like my body needs to lay down and rest. 😴 #Tired #Exhausted #Insomnia #Migraine #ChronicLyme #LymeDisease #TBD #TickBorneIllness #InfectiousDisease #Babesia #Bartonella #Borrelia #ChronicPain #ChronicFatigueSyndrome #CFS #ME #MECFS #ChronicIllness #ChronicallyIll #InvisibleIllness #Disabled #Disability #Spoonie #myphotos
