Ulysses obsession with the Courier is a special type of sad to me cause the Courier’s part was so important but so unwitting. They had no idea what was in the package they delivered and neither did he. Neither had an idea of what it could’ve done and the Courier was only caring out their job (mind you the Courier could be killed via notes in the express contract if they don’t). To them it was just another regular delivery to the divide and one that they likely thought would help, just like all the ones before.
It’s so tragic for Ulysses to hold so much ire to the Courier when it really was the case of it could’ve been anyone. Anyone could have delivered that package but they did and so he focused the blame on them and it destroys what he is trying to instill in the courier on a fundamental level.
#like yeah the courier delivered the package but in the end that’s a job#any random courier could’ve delivered it especially since we know in the past the factions were farther apart and this travel was a smidge#safer but courier six got it and this Ulysses blamed them#like I don’t care much for Ulysses because I think lonesome road embodies don’t shoot the messenger at it core#and what people focus on doesn’t focus on the fact that in the bigger picture#everything went wrong because two factions were at war and at some point the codes would have been delivered#and the divide destroyed cause with how close it is to NCR territory it would of been found#like there is an inevitable and too many people treat Ulysses as if he knows more or is more aware of the idiosyncrasies of conflict#when he’s like fundamentally flawed just at the standard of being a legion apologist STILL and just how focused he is on one persons#involvement cause yeah choices matter even the small one but I think Veronica’s quest says it best with a line from the courier#you can’t control what they do#like the courier couldn’t and can’t control what they deliver and yet it’s got them in hot water multiple times#like do you think they enjoy being shot or knowing they are indirectly responsible for activating the annihilation of a community#to me it’s hypocrisy to be willing to end the world or one world to prove a point and whatever argument made that only military factions#suffer forget there are innocent civilians suffering that had no part and Ulysses is no better than the Courier#I don’t like devils advocate and a lot of the dlc just feels like that but idk I know people love it but the depth is just not there for mr#ulysses fnv#fallout#fallout new vegas#courier six#the courier#lonesome road#the courier has very little personality outside what we give them but some lines and delivery paint a picture#like uhhhh undertale deltarune rules ig

Oblivious hypocrisy?
This post is about supposed hypocrisy within Tsukasa. Theory.
To start off, let’s go over his general beliefs that have been shown throughout the manga since day one.

Tsukasa belives supernatural and humans should be whoever they want to be, they should be together if they desire to. And if that’s enough to end the world, then it’s a done deal.
I find it interesting, out of everything that interesting about Tsukasa, that he thinks people should get whatever they desire. Within reason, authenticity, and if they’re willing to pay the price. With those things, it really doesn’t matter what your wish is, or who you hurt to get it. He’ll forgive everything.

No.1: He wants people to have whatever wish they want, whatever desire they have.
This really plays into his part on Sakura’s team as well, as her assistant. She’s selfish for wanting to wipe out everyone, every living/existing being just so she could go ‘outside’ and be free. But that’s what she wants, and she’s sure she’s truthful about it, that she’s truly happy.
So in Tsukasa’s eyes, that’s ok.

No.2 is: That he believes wishes and desires and wants are endless.
A human, a supernatural, existing beings don’t stop wanting. They’re always going to want something, we are always going to have desires and wishes.
He’s known this ever since he was 4 years old, when he got trapped in the Red House. In the Red House, we can see that Kou got put through many trials of his wants projecting at him. And they didn’t stop until they got to Nene and he refused all of them.

They are even things he didn’t even realized he wanted.
That’s because they’re coming from the heart, where the authenticity lies.

Tsukasa has seen person from person walk into the house wanting their wishes to come true. He knows how this works. A wish for a price, no matter how many wishes there are, they’ll have to be payed for.
But there is no end it, no boundaries to what they can wish and what they can’t. As long as it comes from the heart, maybe even portrays in front of them like with Kou.
So, two clear beliefs. People should have whatever they want, beings don’t stop wishing.
Now let’s see how those two things are shown by Tsukasa himself. Let’s see if he fits his own expectations.

Tsukasa replies with a chapter long explanation on why and how his wish already got granted.
Kou asks Tsukasa what his wish is, why hasn’t his wishes been projected like his has. Tsukasa says he had no other wishes then what he’s already got granted, with the cost of sacrificing himself, and having to stay in the Red House.
He has no other wishes, supposedly. By his own words. He’s saying he’s never wanted anything more, he’s never even thought of anything more.
To Tsukasa, he really just hasn’t thought of anything more, what more could he possibly want.
Being in the Red House for so long, having to see people come to get a wish granted with their prices as well. He’s been busy peering into other people’s wants and desires. Almost noisily, as this has become his new interest, fixation. Wishes, wants, desires. Impulses, and inclinations too.
But he’s so busy with that, he can’t even think to peer into himself. Figure himself out.

You could think this was his only want, but then we see later that that’s incorrect.

Tsukasa says he knew how to get back home, he just didn’t go because he thought it was for the best. He mentions ‘holding back’, which just brings me back to the whole concept of that in TBHK, and Tsukasa’s obvious interest in it.
So I find it wondrous how he’s saying he himself stopped holding back at some point.
Stopped holding himself back from being with the people he loves most, with Amane and his parents. Now just acknowledging that he’s had the desire to go back. And he even invites the Red House Darkness ( Is that what we’re calling it? ) to come with him.
Though, despite him letting go of his swear of not wanting more, this isn’t reaching his expectations at all. This was, for all we now, one occurrence.
Supernaturals and humans should be however they want to be? Has he ever abstained that from himself?
He’s always wanting people like Mitsuba, Shijima, Sakura, Amane to embrace their aspirations, no matter how selfish or fantastical they may be. He’s always pestering about wishes, this and that, to whoever.
But, he’s never once thought about himself, has he? Just once? It seems so, cause currently ( In the chapter 110 ), here he goes again. Trying to make two wishes come true, Sakura and Amane’s both. At the same time.
And something I’ve also noticed about him is that, he may be truthful, but there are times where he isn’t willing to share. I can point out occasions, but I think this is implying more.

He can shy away from things, questions, topics. Involving his own feelings? Like his feelings about thunder?
He can get quiet, wide eyed, looking everywhere else?
Well, that’s ironic, giving he always wants to know the feelings of others.
Amane, grabbing his face, trying to see his expression, because I think to Tsukasa that’s a way to read people. Just through the face they’re making? Hmm..

But.. Then he hides his face when it comes to some situations? I wonder.
That exes all of his beliefs/expectations out.
He doesn’t even make it close to meeting them.
Tsukasa’s all too selfless, and with his overbearing appeal to wishes, wants, desires, selfishness, aspirations, etc etc. It clouds his brain from focusing on nothing more than other’s.
And I’m always so confused when people call him selfish. They may be thinking of his twin. Their almost complete opposites, after all.
I feel like this shows a sort of oblivious hypocritical behavior. His behavior contrasts his beliefs and feelings.
I don’t think anyone would have took him for the hypocrite. Even though I don’t think he himself even has a clue.

Hey, were you the one who posted how Maglor himself thought the oath and kinslayings were such evil acts? If so, how come there are those who still believe the second and third kinslaying is justified when Maglor himself thought it to be such an evil deed? I really need like a solid reasoning cause I was talking to someone who still believes the kinslayings were justified/needed and doesn't take my "murder is wrong" thing as a reason lol
That was indeed my post! If we're thinking of the same one. I've definitely made a post like that.
I mean I don't really know what to say besides "murder is wrong" lol If we can't agree on that um. I don't really know where we go.
The argument in favor of the kinslayings that I've seen usually boils down to property rights. Because the Silmarils are the rightful (and that's honestly debatable) property of the Feanorians, anyone who keeps the Silmarils from them deserves what they get, basically.
Which is. Kind of bonkers as a moral philosophy, even if you DO buy that the Feanorians have an uncontested right to the Silmarils. #1: We're punishing theft or conversion with DEATH now? That's acceptable to us? #2: The harm the Feanorians caused went far beyond the individual who possessed the Silmaril (Dior in the Second Kinslaying and Elwing in the Third). Even if Dior had taken that Silmaril right out of Maedhros' hand and spit in his eye on the way out it wouldn't justify the wholesale slaughter of an entire kingdom. They literally murdered children over things. Items. Stuff. Magical cool stuff yeah--but they valued it over lives. Does anyone honestly think Tolkien would have written a story agreeing with that as a moral view?
"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." (Thorin's final words, The Hobbit)
I don't know how you look at Maedhros and Maglor--the ONLY two of SEVEN sons to survive through the Third Kinslaying--and think THEY think they did the right thing. Five of their brothers have now died in assaults on other Elves which they began. Maglor argues for breaking the oath there, he resists Maedhros' drive to the Fourth Kinslaying (until he doesn't), and at the end of it all, he throws his precious Silmaril into the sea. Maedhros kills himself over it. These are not the actions of people who feel GOOD about where their lives have gone and the actions they've taken. Tolkien is so blatantly obvious about the Feanorians being in the wrong it's always a little wild to me that the KINSLAYINGS get defended.
On the note of the Fourth Kinslaying, let's not forget that: That after everything, after the War of Wrath is over and everyone is ready to go home and see their families and be at peace, a whole group of Elves get murdered by Maglor and Maedhros again over the Silmarils. A group--Eonwe's guard--of people who had survived a war with MORGOTH die because Maedhros and Maglor weren't willing to break their oath.
An oath which Tolkien casts as wicked from the very start--something that was always likely to bring them to evil acts.
"Then Feanor swore a terrible oath. His seven sons leapt straightway to his side and took the selfsame vow together, and red as blood shone their drawn swords...and many quailed to hear the dread words." ("Of the Flight of the Noldor," The Silmarillion)
Furthermore, as Dior points out in some versions outside Silm proper, at the time the Second Kinslaying is committed, Melkor still has two of the Silmarils. Even if Dior had handed over Luthien's Silmaril--to the people who had kidnapped and attempted to forcibly marry and presumably rape his mom; and also tried to murder her and his father later on--the oath is still not fulfilled, because Melkor has two.
The fact that the Feanorians choose to pursue Luthien's Silmaril with violence and bloodshed rather than make a go at the two that Melkor has has always revealed their hypocrisy to me. They chose Luthien's Silmaril because they knew it would be easier to get than the ones that Melkor has. Easier to kill other Elves if they don't give you what you want, than to attack or infiltrate Angband. Even now, when they know it's possible--because Beren and Luthien did it, and they had FAR fewer resources at hand than the Feanorians (and for the record, Fingon also successfully infiltrated Angband; Gwindor and others have successfully escaped from Angband)--they choose to slay other Elves instead. Say again the Second Kinslaying was "necessary"?
This is how Tolkien describes the attack on the Havens:
"And so there came to pass the last and cruelest of the slayings of Elf by Elf; and that was the third of the great wrongs achieved by the accursed oath. For the sons of Feanor that yet lived came down suddenly upon the exiles of Gondolin and the remnant of Doriath, and destroyed them." ("Of the Voyage of Earendil," The Silmarillion)
Does this description sound like people taking justified action? And let's not forget, in this battle, the Feanorians' own troops are so horrified by their actions that they turn against them.
"In that battle some of their [the Feanorians'] people stood aside, and some few rebelled and were slain upon the other part aiding Elwing against their own lords...Too late the ships of Cirdan and Gil-galad the High King came hasting to the aid of the Elves of Sirion; and Elwing was gone, and her sons." ("Of the Voyage of Earendil," The Silmarillion)
Members of the Feanorians' own people find their actions so terrible they cannot simply join those who stand by and refuse to attack the Havens, but they actively join the fight on the side of the Havens. Moreover, the heroic Gil-galad arrives intending to stop the Feanorians and aid the Havens. Sure, he arrives too late--but his intent is made clear: the Feanorians are the villains here, who need to be stopped.
And I don't think it is uncontested that the Silmarils belong to the Feanorians. For one, they were created entirely and only by Feanor; none of his sons had anything to do with it. And for two, the universe itself has deemed by the end that the Feanorians no longer have a property right in them, when the Silmarils burn the hands of Maedhros and Maglor because of all the evil they've committed. The jewels themselves will not be touched by these people who have done so much wrong. Eonwe tries to warn them about this before they even commit the Fourth Kinslaying.
"And they [Maedhros and Maglor] sent a message therefore to Eonwe, bidding him yield up those jewels...But Eonwe answered that the right to the work of their father, which the sons of Feanor had formerly possessed, had now perished, because of their many and merciless deeds, being blinded by their oath, and most of all because of their slaying of Dior and the assault upon the Havens." ("Of the Voyage of Earendil," The Silmarillion [emphasis added])
Like...I don't know how the book could be more clear that the Kinslayings were wrong and that Maedhros and Maglor were in the wrong.
I think fans are so invested in the Feanorians they're willing to bend over backwards to find some view where they didn't actually commit horrific war crimes and were in fact in the right. But that's just not the story Tolkien wrote. Also, you can like them and still admit they did horrible things. You are allowed to like characters who are in the wrong!

a prompt idea: someone tries to convince alec that magnus has/will inevitably cheat on him. Maybe even magnus finds out?
so i had to think about how to do this because i hate cheating and then i realized there was a canon scenario that i could use and just somewhat rewrite to my own preferences ^_^

“Alec, you need to be prepared. Mentally, going into a relationship like this.”
“Because he’s a man?” Alec asks, casually uninterested in where Robert is trying to take this sudden and strangely personal meeting. “Or because he’s a warlock?” Alec really isn’t interested in the opinion of an ex-Circle member regardless of their status as his parents and it’s amazing how freeing the knowledge of your parent’s sins can be. The sudden release of a burden that was never yours to carry, but you were made to and blamed for it anyways and Alec is feeling lighter than ever… and less inclined to listen to his parents than ever before.
“Alec, that’s not why I wanted to talk.” Robert says and he grimaces, like this conversation isn’t going the way he wanted which is great. Because Alec enjoys watching him sweat and stumble over his stupid, prejudiced words.  “It’s about the type of person Magnus Bane is. And it’s not the kind of person I ever wanted any of my kids with.”
“Well, I didn’t want to find out that the reason my parents were pushing me to enter an arranged marriage was because they followed a genocidal maniac and contributed to his treason, genocide and terrorism. So… dad—” and Robert winces, because Alec’s never really called his parents informally and certainly not in meetings unless he’s being condescending.
“I think your opinion is not only irrelevant, but also unwelcome. Especially when it involves the level of hypocrisy that it does, coming from you. So, if you’d like to keep your tongue and not have to have Idris regrow it, I suggest you stop talking.” Alec smiles, the one that Izzy always says reminds her of sharks, and Robert pales further, “and leave. The sooner the better. Or I’d be happy to make your stay here a more permanent one. There are plenty of places here for you to rest.”
It’s the most blatant threat Alec has ever made to a family member and for a minute, he’s worried he’s too subtle like he normally is. However, Magnus is an incredible influence and Alec smirks as his point is firmly made and Robert backs up, sweating as he leaves, and Alec rolls his eyes. Whatever Robert wanted to tell him, was going to use over his head like a witchlight to guide Alec to the ‘right path’ isn’t going to work. While information is always powerful, you also need to be wary of where the information comes from and the price it will cost.
And there is a great many things Alec is willing to do to get information, but listening to someone insult Magnus and his relationship with Magnus will never be one of them.
Alec will accept the end of the world before he lets anyone insult Magnus in front of him, especially people who are supposed to be Alec’s family.
If needed, Alec will purge his life of whatever he needs to, in order to keep Magnus protected, even if it’s only from words and looks and insinuations. Magnus is older than him and knows so much more of the world, but Alec often finds himself wondering who protects Magnus, when Magnus protects the world.
Alec never had anyone to protect him until Magnus and now, Alec is going to return the favor, even if it’s only in small, invisible ways that Magnus may never find out about.
It’s with satisfaction that Alec goes to the loft that morning and is greeted with kisses and laughter and a deliciously dark smirk that Alec smiles contentedly against.

Quick camp chats before heading out on the road again. (I'm thinking about making straight for the creche actually, since Rakha definitely thinks it's the most important thing to do right now, and then circling back for final nautiloid map stuff on the way to the Underdark.)
Rakha questioned Gale much more thoroughly about Karsus and the fall of Netheril; even though it happened a long time ago, she's still hungry for any new knowledge, more pieces in her picture of the world. I think this is probably not the last time that he ends up just discoursing to her on some random subject or another; if there's one thing Gale can't resist, it's an attentive student, even if it's one fully capable of ripping his throat out in the wrong moment. He also explained, much to her disappointment, that there's no way she would be strong enough on her own to channel the Weave as they did together - that it requires intense study even for someone with a natural magical gift like her. She's quietly bummed about this; she was taken with the idea of showing it to Wyll.
Having talked to Dammon, we have the option to ask Karlach directly about the engine in camp. She's not willing to give the full story until the Paladins are dead, but does explain that it prevents her from touching anyone and how upset that makes her, that she can't have a hug. Rakha spends a lot of time thinking about this afterwards. She has had sex with Lae'zel and she has had Astarion's weight on her as he sucked the blood at her neck, but beyond this, her experience with physical contact of any sort is... limited. But Karlach's longing for it is obvious. It must be comforting, she decides. Like the blanket of the Weave around her. Like Wyll's hand on her arm was, last night.
Astarion is indignant about Gale's orb: "To think, Gale's had this devastating orb within himself the entire time, and only just mentioned it? Who'd keep a secret like that from his friends? You can't trust anyone these days." It takes Rakha a little while to work out that he is being ironic. His response to the question "What do you think we'll find at Moonrise Towers?" amuses me, because his phrasing feels deliberately calibrated for Rakha specifically: "Who knows? Drow? Mind flayers? Death? Hopefully not ours. But maybe answers, if we can convince the right people to talk." Death and answers are Rakha's two favorite things in the whole world.
Wyll is super cute and kinda shy. "Since the party, I've had a spring in my step, and I've got you to thank." Sadly none of the (positive) dialogue options quite fall in Rakha's blunt conversational wheelhouse, but we'll go with, "It was a lovely evening. I hope we can share even more." Because it's true - talking to him was the best part of the party for her by far. She doesn't fully understand her own feelings, but she is realizing she feels better near him than otherwise. He smiles. "I'm sure we will. And when the time comes... I've got something in mind." He raises a hand to forestall her as she opens her mouth to ask questions. "Now, now - no prodding. You don't want to spoil the surprise. But I'll say this... it'll be worth the wait." The odd sense of pleasant anticipation with which Rakha receives this information is a rather new concept for her. She isn't sure what he means... but she is curious to find out.
He also tells her a little bit about growing up as a Duke's son in Baldur's Gate. Most of his descriptions of court and nobility are somewhat lost on her-- more interesting is his description of the transition into becoming Blade of Frontiers. She asks if it was much of a change. "Yes and no," he answers. "Father taught me the four pillars of power - courage, insight, strategy, justice. He reckoned I'd follow in his footsteps, first as a Fist Marshal, then as a Duke. Vanquish evil, maintain order, save the world. But a duke makes bedfellows with more monsters than he slays. Father called it 'diplomacy'. I called it 'hypocrisy.' In the frontiers, there is no posturing, no diplomacy. I slay monsters; I don't consort with them, even if I might look like one." As usual, Rakha tucks away these foundational tenets of his philosophy to consider for herself. Courage, insight, strategy, justice. None of them mean as much to her as violence, hunger, survival, death. And yet they are, perhaps, something to aspire to, if she should ever learn to control the beast... She wonders about that last statement, though. Wyll claims not to consort with monsters - but he travels with Astarion. He travels with her. He travels with Gale and that bomb in his chest. There are many in their group who could be called monsters. What does he see when he looks at them? Does he see his presence here as just another sort of hypocrisy, deep down?

Summary: Eddie was always around her, even though he hated the Harringtons. She was the princess of Hawkins High and he had to watch her rule the school with her brother but be vulnerable when no one was around.
Warning: Mentions of death, mentions of abusive parents. Abusive boyfriend Billy (just a little). Swearing, and the Harrington parents not being there. If there's anything else let me know.

A/N: I don't know where the idea came up but here it is, a fic where Eddie didn't die bc HE DESERVED BETTER! Hope you like it, I loved to hear some feed back so I'm here if you have something to say :)
Eddie watches her behind his locker, she’s wearing a horrendous and pretentious outfit; khaki shorts with a yellow blouse and a navy blue sweater. She’s wearing a brown belt to accentuate her waist and her wild hair is at the same time ideally brushed. Natural make-up, which he’s sure is not natural at all, just subtle pink gloss stands out. He passes by her side and notices the contrast between her perfectly white snickers and his once-white snickers. 
She’s surrounded by a bunch of girls all kissing her feet, all of them reminded her that her clothes are top-notch, her hair is beautiful, she’s super smart and her brother is oh so handsome. Eddie can’t stand the Harringtons. They’re everything that is wrong with the world, people like them are the reason injustice exists. And they’re twins, beautiful twins, with rich parents which only proves his theory. 
At the end of the hall, her brother calls for her. She leaves her friends and runs towards Steve who’s waiting for her with Nancy Wheeler, his girlfriend. As she runs, accidentally bumps into him, which causes him to throw his D&D notebook. Not only does she scoffed at him but rolls her eyes with an apology full of hypocrisy.
“You are such a nerd” even though she’s doing it only for decency and the good manners daddy and mommy bought her, he lets her pick up his notebook, and she took a quick glance at it.
“I’m not the one with straights A’s princess” 
She stands up and turns to go on her way, her brother was watching the whole scene and is mortified that his sister, the princess of Hawkings High, spend more than ten seconds speaking to a freak. 
"Go back to hell freak" Steves yells. 
"Fuck you Harrington" usually Steve and his assholes friends don’t pay attention to Eddie, for some reason, they're always behind Jonathan Byers, he's not glad for the guy but gotta be thankful it's not him. He has bad days like this and to deal with a bunch of bullies… he could handle them, and frankly didn't care that much, but today he didn’t want to do that. 
YN gives him one final cold look and leaves through the front door. I really hate the Harringtons.

Steve showed up at school one day with his pretty face destroyed. Things changed after that, Eddie noticed how the twins, especially YN, were more lowkey. Steve was dealing with his own battles but YN started to be nicer to everyone, even Eddie. She couldn't stand him, but she wasn't mean anymore. Eddie also noticed how she wasn’t as close with the cheerleaders as she used to, she had been getting lunch with only her brother and Nancy. 
He was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt when Billy appeared in the picture. She started dating him after a couple of weeks, going against everyone, rumor was she stopped being close to Steve because he wasn't very fond of the idea. After all, Billy was stepping into King’s Steve territory. 
Eddie was leaving Hellfire Club, his d&d club when he heard a very loud sound coming from one of the classrooms. It sounded as if one of the sits were thrown against the other, he hesitated on going to check what was going on but if anything were to happen, he was sure he'd be blamed for it. When he was just a few feet away from the door he saw Billy leaving the classroom, he looked annoyed and with his stupid and defining smile of his, Billy ignored Eddie and just walked away. Still, Eddie went to see what happened, he was curious as to what HH's new asshole had done. To his surprise, YN was sitting on the floor, her face buried in her hands. She had a cut on his arms that was starting to bleed.
Eddie was a little clumsy, and he had to run away from home several times as a kid before Wayne took him in. He practically scaped from his dad and due to his clumsiness, he used to get a lot of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, that’s why Wayne taught him to always carry bandaids, all kinds of them: plastic, sheer, foam, flexible fabric, and his all-time favorite; with funky designs. 
He steps into the classroom and sits in front of YN, she acknowledges his presence only when he took her arm and with a piece of paper cleans the blood that was almost getting to his shirt. It was one of those cuts that bleed a lot but in reality, is barely an injury. They don’t say a word, YN looks away and Eddie is focused on cleaning the wound. He finishes quickly and proceeds to put on the bandaid, he chose a navy blue one with little baby blue lighting. 
He gives a gentle press to secure the bandaid making sure he doesn't press too hard on the injury and that’s it. He stands up and is prepared to leave the place when a fragile and tender hold stops his walk. YN is looking at him, her eyes are watery but she didn’t let a single tear leave her eyes. Now that he thinks about it, she wasn’t crying when he entered the room, even if it was a silent cry, he would have noticed it. Maybe she’s one of those people who don’t cry. 
“Thanks” she says with a little smile. For the first time, Eddie doesn’t see a fake pretentious smile, this smile is a genuine one, grateful even. Her eyes are so big, that even though they reflect sadness, there’s a special light in them. Or maybe it’s just the tears.
“Sure” she let go of his hand and he turns around to walk out, he’s thinking how bad Billy must be if he left his girlfriend alone and bleeding in an empty school. Hell, maybe he got her hurt.

Summer was around the corner, the hype for school to be over was everywhere. Eddie was planning a campaign in the library since it was practically empty. There was no more homework, finals have passed, at this point, people only attended school to play. He just got the news that once again he was not graduating, this was the second time and the thought of being in this hell of a place one more entire year made his skin crawl. That’s why he was taking his time with his new campaign, it helped him to clear his mind.
“You’re holding too hard it’s starting to hurt” he recognizes YN’s voice in a second, he didn't hear that damn voice all the time in class all these years in vain. He’s sure she’s not in the library and ignores the voice.
“Billy, let go. You’re hurting me” Eddie looks up, and through the library’s window, he sees Billy pulling YN’s arm forcing her to walk. He lets out a big sigh, he’s once again in the predicament of just going on with his life or interfering in something he has nothing to do. Billy is one scary man, he won’t hesitate in taking Eddie to his grave, being honest, Eddie wouldn’t last a minute against Billy. On the other hand, Billy does something to her, he couldn’t deal with the guilt. And of course, he condones violence against women, he swore he was never gonna be like his father and if he could do anything to prevent and stop another abusive man, he was gonna do it. 
As he’s walking to get behind the library, he sees Steve talking to some people, maybe the right thing to do was to tell Steve what he saw, that way he couldn’t get any problems. He thinks about the possibility of going for help with Steve, which would ruin his entire reputation, and Steve’s friends would probably laugh at him. Get it together, this is not about you.
“Hey Steve” the guy turns and sees Eddie standing in front of him. It was weird for both of them to be facing each other, they felt so uncomfortable you could cut the awkwardness in the air.
“What do you want Munson?” the tension increases because Eddie can find the words and Steve is impatient. 
“Listen man, I don’t mean to be nosy or anything but I think you should know this” Eddie begins to explain. Steve asks Eddie to go with him and find his sister, he’s not amused since he didn’t want to get involved in the first place, that’s why he told the twin, but then again, he doesn’t want the story of the abusive partner to repeat. 
They spot Billy first and he’s so angry, his whole face is red. He’s raising his voice at her, she’s not letting him walk all over her and respond back, this obviously makes Billy angrier and he grabs her by her arms. There’s no need to be a genius to notice how Billy’s strength hurts her. Steve’s reaction is to run and immediately push Billy away, she falls to the floor due to Billy’s quick movement and Eddie helps her stand up trying not to grab her by the several bruises she already had. 
She begs Steve not to fight and even when he wants to do it more than anything, he stops himself just to avoid a dramatic scene where his sister would be the center of attention. Eddie has to give it to Steve, the teens in Hawkins High were judgmental, very, and always blamed the victim, it was smart not to create more drama in which she would be the first target.
“You touch her again, I’ll fucking kill you” Billy laughs and makes fun of the three before disappearing to get to his car. Eddie couldn’t believe how someone who was having her arc of redemption could be with someone as awful as Billy. Maybe he didn’t know the guy but from what he’s seen, there are not many good things about him. 
"Thank you" YN holds Eddie's hand, she squeezes it a little and smiles fondly at him. It was the second genuine smile she's given and now that he thinks about it, her smile is beautiful. Her smile is like a warm hug. 
He stays behind and watched them go, hoping that after everything, he never has to see YN giving her beautiful smile to Billy. 
He was surprised to see YN at the school after Hellfire. The last time he knew about her was at the beginning of summer when she left a present at his door. The big box only had a note that says “Thanks. -YN Harrington”. He knew what the gift was for, she didn’t have to do it, Eddie began to think about what kind of life someone has to feel like they have to give something in return to someone who was just being nice. She had gifted him a blue electric guitar, and he loved it, of course, it wasn’t as special as his girl but it was still amazing. He’d like to rehearse with the blue guitar and even though he didn’t use it on his gigs, he’d still carried it around. 
“No way you’re here!” Dustin hugs her fondly while Erica and Mike look surprised too. The three of them greet her, they seem excited and immediately start to jump around her asking a lot of questions. She asks them to calm down and offers a ride home. 
“I’m going with my parents thanks. I’ve spent too much time with these nerds” Erica looks down at them rolling her eyes. YN loved Erica with his whole heart, she was a total girl boss. “You’re a cool nerd to play, maybe I’ll grace your needy reading club again”
“Lady Applejack” Eddie does a silly courtesy and lets her pass, YN eyes finally notices Eddie. His hair is longer than before and for some reason, his body seems bigger, like he’s gained some muscles. She notices that his shirts are getting better, the hellfire logo looks way more detailed than before. He incremented the quality, I respect that. 
It’s notorious to the boys, how the mood changed when Eddie and YN saw each other. They were standing in a straight position, like soldiers waiting to be ordered to do something, even breath is getting a little awkward.  
“So Eddie” Dustin said after a full minute of silence. “Do you need a ride?”     
“Those are not the manners I taught you little lost sheep” Eddie knows it’s your car and doesn’t want to bother, let alone make her feel uncomfortable. She looks different, the preppy outfit is gone, and her makeup is a little more refined but her glossy lips remain intact. "The lady here doesn't seem so happy about my presence"
"The lady here" she responds getting along with the game, Eddie like the playful smile she has on her face and is willing to pull all of his charms as long as she wants it. "It's not happy you’re corrupting her brother's children. But if the kind sir wants a ride, who am I to deny it" 
Eddie is having problems getting air to his lungs, she was every boy's dream for a reason. He was proud of his charming personality and way with words but at the moment he didn’t know how to respond. She made a funny courtesy mocking him and the innocent face she had, made his heart race. What in heaven's sake? 
He excused himself saying that he had an appointment to get to and leaving them in her car. YN says a cute goodbye to him, smiling so brightly and waving at him. He got a quick glance at her before getting in his van. Maybe, after all, he didn’t hate this Harrington that much.

Eddie never in his life imagined that he'd be in this kind of situation. He was accused of murder, had to run from the police, had himself trapped in a shitty dimension called the upside down, now he was arriving at the Harrington's house in a stolen motor house full of weapons and planning to get back to said shitty dimension in an attempt to kill a dark wizard that wanted to take control over the world. Everything felt surreal to him. 
It was almost 11 pm when they saw the streets clear, due to the curfew, and got the trailer out of the woods and into Harrington's garage. This might be the craziest part so far, he made himself "at home" next to the ones he always despised, in their house no less. 
"We can take turns to shower and maybe rest a little" Steve was getting out of the kitchen with his hands holding five beers and Dustin behind him with a pack of sodas. The mood was tense, they had their hearts full of hope as well as fear. Fear that maybe they were walking to their inevitable death. 
The kids were the first to take showers, they used two bathrooms to save time since it was dangerous to be separated in case Vecna tried to take one of them. Eddie and YN were the last to take a shower. 
As the warm water relaxed his body, Eddie still felt anxious, he was determined to not run this time, he wasn't letting his fears rule this time. No more running from Eddie the banished, he had said to Dustin. 
When he got out of the bathroom Steve had left him a shirt and some pants to change, ok no, this is the craziest. Eddie in a Hawkins' High shirt with the basketball shorts to match. 
"You're hilarious Steve, didn't you have the jacket to match?" He walks out of the room and only finds YN sitting on the stairs smoking a cigarette. 
"Hate to tell you this but it was I who chose this precious outfit you're wearing and I did think about the jacket but it's too warm you know?" she laughs "want a smoke?" 
"I think Robin's gonna be disgusted if she catches us smoking" while taking a seat, he grabs a cigarette and starts to smoke. 
"Meh, she has more control over Steve, I can handle a disgusted Robin" 
Eddie knows how gross smoking is, it's also really bad for the body and even worse for the environment, yet, he can't help but think that YN looks really hot while doing it. She looks like one of those elegant actresses from the 50s. Her side profile should be in a museum.
"Big fan of Alice in Wonderland?" she takes a look at her pajamas, her really old pajamas.
"Our parents aren't around a lot you know? And after we turned ten they didn't care if they'll be available for our birthdays" YN explain, her voice mixing sadness and whatever "So Steve and I always spend our birthday together, all day for us. And as soon as we could, started to buy gifts for each other. He's very good at it and he's never gotten me the same thing, so, when we were fourteen he got me these pj's and they've become my comfort clothes" she embraces herself and smells the fabric, dreamy eyes, and warm smile. "Sounds silly I know"
"No, no, no, not at all" Eddie says grabbing her hand "I actually think is great that you have each other. It's kinda what I have with my uncle" 
"Yeah?"
"No shit, he’s the best" 
"Well I'd love to meet him" 
"I think we can arrange that" he's closer to YN than ever before, their noses almost touching. Her minty breath over his lips. They only had a couple of hours of calm before their plan started, and Eddie wants it to spend every second of it with her. He grabs her chin and rubs her cheek with his thumb, not for even one second, YN stops staring at him. She's noticing how beautiful his eyes are, his wet hair is dripping a little, and he’s glowing like she’s never seen someone glow before. 
Their lips are almost pressed against the other when Nancy appeared in the hall looking for them. They were gonna take turns to sleep thirty minutes and half of the group would guard. 
“Ok, we’ll wait for you two” Nancy is one of the most brilliant people in the world, YN really admired her but right now, she wanted to kill her for two reasons: 
The smile on her face let them notice that she knew what was happening. 
She interrupted what could have been an amazing kiss.

Amazed can be described as causing a strong emotional reaction because of unexpectedness, but never YN imagine she’d be in the presence of something that the expression itself couldn’t describe. She’s astonished watching Eddie play guitar, YN doesn’t know the song, it’s not her taste, but Eddie playing it is definitely working for her. The way he’s moving his fingers is mesmerizing, she feels in some kind of spell; his stage presence, if you can call the top of his trailer a stage, is simply majestic. 
At the trailer, once the bats had been distracted, Eddie and Dustin were through the clouds because of the performance, jumping, clapping and screaming. YN had stayed behind, just watching their excitement, for her, it was the cutest thing that could happen in the middle of the end of the world. 
Eddie turned to her and lift her off the ground, spinning around like in an old movie. When he puts her down, they look in the eyes. They never expected to be in this place, throughout the entire adventure they’ve been together. With YN, Eddie didn’t feel judged or pitty, on the contrary, he could feel her supporting him and never doubting his innocence. They got to know each other several times they got paired together, Eddie knew she liked to dance to Tears for Fears, she hated thunderstorms and had been battling with a lot of anxiety issues, in no time he learned how to deal with them and was now part of the protect YN club, as Dustin calls it. And now, she knew that Eddie is a sweet person, he likes to go for walks and pick up rocks and flowers that he thinks are interesting, he has a beautiful spirit and he’s not afraid of showing his inner kid; he was also very gentle and polite when he wanted to be and his loyalty and priorities were something he always had first. 
The bats attacking the trailer wake them up, forcing them to react fast and protect all the entrances however they could. As soon as they finish, Eddie sent Dustin first to the other side, once he is safe, Eddie is ready to let you go.
YN already has her hands on the sheets and she gives one last look to Eddie's big eyes. He can't resist her gaze, he said Dustin that he was done running and now he didn’t want to wonder if they could've been. 
In a decisive moment, he takes YN's face in his hands and kisses her. Her lips were soft, almost silken, and pillowy against his own. He could feel the soft tickle of her breath beneath his nose, fingers carding through her hair as they breathed each other in. Warmth blossomed in YN's chest, butterflies dancing in her stomach.  
Without saying another word, he hugs her. An intimate hug where their chest and stomachs touch, all he did was hug her. Her brain is still dizzy but she listens to Eddie and starts climbing. When she reaches the other side with Dustin, she's ready to catch Eddie with open arms but he has other plans.
"I'm buying more time" was all he said.
Her heart stops at the sign of Eddie cutting the sheets and running away. She and Dustin scream at the top of their lungs, begging him to come back but all they hear is the bats attacking the trailer. 
"Dustin quick, get the chair" 
"No, you can't get back. Steve..."
"Steve will have to understand" several years of volleyball and cheerleading practices finally we're paying off, she jumped and somehow managed to fall and not injured too much. 
She's running. Of course Steve would never understand, YN herself didn't understand what she was about to do. It was a stupid idea, what was she supposed to do? Just scream at the bats to leave Eddie alone? Distract them? She didn't know, all she knew was that she was not leaving Eddie alone. 
She spotted Eddie surrounded by hundreds of bats, he was trying his best to stop them with the shield but it was almost broken. He was now on the floor bleeding.  Almost there, an idea came to her mind, and without thinking so much, she throws the bike at the bats with as much strength as she can find in her arms, this allows her to find a way to Eddie.
The bats turn their attention to her, as a weapon she had chosen Steve’s nail bat because, in a really weird way, it was like her brother was there to get her back like always. 
She’s just swinging the bat like there’s no tomorrow, and sadly, maybe there wasn’t. The bats were too many, the bites hurt like hell and the bastards tried their best to choke her. Out of the blue, Eddie is barely standing but willing to help her.
Maybe not so much time has passed but it sure feels like it, the bits burn like hell. They’ve never experienced that kind of burning in their skin. They were losing the fight, both severely injured and exhausted from fighting. Suddenly, all the bats fall heavily to the ground. Eddie can’t understand what happened, he takes the bat and starts pinching a few to make sure they’re gone.
He falls in front of her, his hand pressing on one side of his stomach. She quickly gets on the ground with him, YN ripped off her shirt to make bandages on the worst injuries even if she’s injured herself, she wants to make sure he’s got a chance.
“You came back?” Eddie’s voice was weak, barely loud enough to hear it. YN didn’t pay so much attention to what he was saying, she just wanted to cure him somehow. He takes her hands, usually, she would be disgusted by all the blood, but in the present time, his touch gave her somehow peace. “Please, just why?”
“I couldn’t leave you. You’ve always been around for me, even if you didn’t have to” she stops with the bandages at the sign that she couldn’t do more “I’m sure at that time you hated me, and to be honest I hated you too but now… you’re so precious Eddie I just got the time to get to know you, please don’t leave us. Don’t leave me” 
“We’ll have the time” Eddie squeezes YN’s hand and she’s crying in his chest. “I think it’s finally my year” 
Her wounds were bad as well, she was not losing that much blood but the pain was insufferable, pain that she had ignored to help Eddie. “‘86 baby” was the last she heard before passing out from the pain.

Eddie woke up in a room he didn’t recognize and it was a hideous room. The curtains and walls had the same plain design and on the wall was a single picture: a car. Who the fuck lives here? 
“Hey, I thought I could get back before you wake up" Steve says in a whisper. 
"I appreciate the romantic gesture but why are you whispering?"
"Take a look on the floor" Eddie looks to the right and sees nothing, he raises his eyebrow "On the other side you moron " 
There she is completely knocked out. YN is sleeping on a mattress cover with only a sheet, Eddie can notice her pajamas, her comfort pajamas. She looks like an angel even with all the cuts and bruises. Steve kindly moves her to wake her up, it takes only a couple of pushes for her to wake up in a rush.
"How is he?... oh my god you're up!" He's never seen someone jump so fast. YN pulls Eddie closer in a tight hug, he responds back and grabs her with both arms. Both of them closed their eyes, after their last hug it was a miracle they were hugging again. 
"Careful there, he almost dies remember?" 
"Oh right I'm sorry, I shouldn't press too hard" 
"Don't you dare start listening to your brother now" Eddie takes YN's hands provoking her to feel a little tingle on her stomach "Listen I just wanna say that…"
"Oh for the love of God don't say I love you" Steve interrupts "You don't love each other yet, you just share trauma" 
"Don worry dude, I'll tell you I love you too" she laughs when her brother leaves the room, he was blushing. "So anyways, I really wanna thank you for getting back, for me. You could've died" 
"But I didn't and we got you a chance to live" 
"So I guess it's my turn to really say thank you uh?" 
"It is Eddie the banished, Dungeon Master of Hellfire" 
"Cute, cute" Eddie shuts up for a moment, he was looking through the window, it was still hard to believe everything that happened. "I'd like to get to know you better… I don't want to leave whatever happened in the upside down to be just whatever" 
"Well, we might face the end of the world together so why not” 
They talked for hours, in between laughs and some tears they were happy to have someone to share their feelings. YN was tormented by the fact that she used to be a bitch to Eddie in school and apologized a lot for it until he accepted it. He mocked her for her preppy outfits and she remind him how funny his hair looked when it was growing. Before getting back to sleep she thank him one more time for always being around when she needed someone. 
“I’ve always been around and I’m planning to stay, remember I still have to say I love you”

Wayne Munson was a skeptical man, he had faced a lot of crap in his life. He was a war veteran and throughout those years he developed a strong character, he learned to believe and trust only his close ones. Sadly, he was forgetting how to love too, but when his sister passed away, he couldn’t let his nephew with the crap of a dad he had. Eddie was almost eleven when he arrived at Wayne’s trailer, of course the man didn’t have a clue on how to raise a child, let alone a child like Eddie. His boy, as Wayne tends to call him with other people, was a tornado of pure joy, Eddie was a kind passionate kid with big dreams and great talent for everything that included being creative; music was his greatest passion but he also love fantasy, that’s why Wayne used to took him to thrift shops and book fairs to buy as many books and they could. Eddie didn’t mind the books weren’t new, in fact, he liked the idea that all his books had a past, he invented stories about the previous owners and always narrated them to his uncle. Wayne really loves his nephew, when a random kid told him he knew where Eddie was, he doubted it’ll be true, his hopes were less and less every day. 
“You’re telling me, that my Eddie is inside the Harrington’s house?” Wayne is almost frustrated with Dustin because he won’t say a single clear thing. “Listen kid, I can’t keep losing my time…”
The front door opens and the Harrington twins greet him, they invite him to come down and he hesitates to do so. It’s been two days since the “earthquake”, Wayne wonders if something happened to these kids because the boy has marks on his neck and arms and the girl has bruises all over her face and arms as well. 
“Are your parents home? I’d love to thank them for inviting me to their home” the twins look at each other, their parents only called them and ask if they were alive and that more money was transferred into their individual accounts for the emergency. Wayne knew the Harringtons only on the surface: rich, important, never in Hawkins. 
“They’re not but that’s not important,” the girl said “I’m YN Harrington, your nephew has told me, us, a lot about you sir. If you could follow me please”
Wayne followed her upstairs, a little nervous of the interaction. She stopped in one of the rooms and opened one of the doors, with her hand she offered Wayne to enter and he did. Laying in bed, with a beat-up face and bandages all over him was his nephew. Wayne immediately went to hug him and Eddie return his hug with a big sigh. even when he was the one who went to fight in another dimension, Eddie was always worried for the well-being of his uncle, the only family he had. 
“I thought I’ll never see you again” Eddie clap his uncle’s back with a big smile. 
“Come on Wayne! you know only the good die young” 
 “I’ll leave you alone for a moment” YN was watching them, for a moment she wished she and Steve had someone like Wayne in their lives, but at least they had their chosen family. 
“No please,” Eddie said and offered a place on the bed “I want to introduce you”.
YN was about to get to bed when in the window, she saw white dust falling. Her expression changed and Eddie noticed it right away. Her face was in complete shock and panic. She goes closer to the window, Eddie stands up and gets next to her, the pain was nothing compared to the fear that invaded his body. 
YN looks for his hand, Eddie intertwined their fingers and look her in the eyes at the same time as her. Both watching the dust fall all over town, they realized the battle is not over.

I do wonder if Nobara do return— And that’s a big if since it’s been a hot while we last heard about her— What would be her role?
Or not necessarily role, since she does have a unique ability to damage the soul. But more like… character arc I suppose?
Like some people would theorize that Nobara could possibly help Maki from spiraling. However, I personally believe it makes much more narrative sense that it would be Yuta that does it.
I must think that Nobara would possibly go through her own arc. But my question is how?
Since I thought her arc is to be less judgmental with her black and white thinking and expand her world view. But the only person that I can think would challenge Nobara on this is Mai. Since Nobara judged Mai harshly despite the fact that she too was a victim like Maki.
But then like… Mai died so… now what?

Okay, so all the reasons Nobara might come back, and some of the reasons she might not. 
Let’s start with why she might not. By the way I’m not arguing whether or not she’ll come back, because in my mind it’s a very strong “...Maaaaaaaaybe?” so it’s just easier to list arguments in support or against.

This is definitely the biggest reason why it would be hard to reintroduce Nobara back into the story. Part of this is Gege’s fumbling his handling of female characters, simply put Mai and Miwa are characters who are better written with way less screentime because they both have obvious character flaws, a character arc is built around a flaw the character has that they either have to work on or face the consequences. 
In comparison to Noara, Megumi and Yuji have clear flaws. Megumi is at times borderline suicidal, he’s really emotoinally unhealthy, he picks and chooses between the people he saves and he lets die. He has a lot of connection to bigger plotlines in the Jujutsu World, the Zenin Clan, his legacy as Toji’s son. 
Yuji also has a major flaw of being self sacrificing and has little self worth, he prioritizes other people far above himself, he has a character conflict around finding a way to die, being a little too willing to die, acting like he has little agency or that he’s individually worthless and much preferring to be a cog in society, he’s also continually dealing with Sukuna’s machinations from inside his own body. 
They have clear flaws and they’re connected to the world around them, in comparison Nobara seems a little tacked onto the trio as an afterthought to the point where it is hard to even speculate on where she would fit in post shibuya. We get one flashback to her home village and it’s not even about her life as a jujutsu sorcerer in the country side, just a childhood friend she had. That childhood friend is apparently just fine in the city, so that character motivation and plotline is resolved for the most part. Everything we know about why Nobara became a sorcerer is shoved into a databook (her grandmother), Saori just seems to be a normal person so I don’t even think there was a mystery about her home town. 
You could say her flaw is both her naivete and egotism, she ends up kind of repeating misogyny against Mai when Momo tries to explain what misogyny is like in the Jujutsu World because she views Mai as a bad victim. Solidarity is solidarity with all women and victims, not just the people you personally like. Nobara’s belief that she can simply overcome all adversity with her strong willpower could also be seen as a flaw.

This is a mistranslation it’s more like ...
⇒ “How to put it… The seats in my life? I don’t want people who’re not sitting there to affect my mind in that way or another.”
⇒ “(…) Well, I guess there are people like you who just come bringing their own chairs and sit [with me], too”
which is Nobara saying she only cares about a select group of people, which in a way reflects Megumi’s flaw of just picking and choosing who she saves.

Nobara’s flaw could be seen as her hypocrisy, she’s one of those loud, crazy people who can easily step on other people’s lives. If they’re not in her small circle of friends she doesn’t really care, she feels little remorse over killing Choso’s brothers. If she comes back that could potentially lead to a conflict with Choso, as unlike Yuji who Choso can forgive because they are brothers, not only is nobara also a murderer, but she doesn’t really feel sorry about it. 
Her naivete and hypocrisy are things that could come to have consequences for her upon her return, for instance you mention Yuta seems more appropriate for the role of supporting Maki and saving her from her spiral than Nobara does. If you look at it from that angle, Nobara could try to help Maki and fail, number one because she does not actually understand all that much about what happened in the Zenin clan she was just making judgements as an outsider and number two because she never liked Mai and that’s the person that Maki is grieving. Mai in general just represents a part of Maki that Nobara doesn’t understand in her amdiration of her. 
This is also the part where I start quoting other people, because I ferociously googled other people’s posts on how they think Nobara might come back due to this being a weak point for me. This post, brings up the fact that if you look at the losses Nobara has suffered so far, they could be the result of Nobara being arrogant and naive to the world and therefore her loss at Shibuya could be a low part in her arc that she has to recover from. 
Jujutsu Kaisen is nothing if not rigidly efficient in how it tells this massive story. I believe every instance of Nobara actually leads us to see a low point in her character arc in Shibuya and a possible return in the Culling Games.
The major foreshadowing to her return is during the Kyoto exchange arc. Her fight against Momo clearly has her ignorant of the plight of women in the JJK universe in Chapters 40 and 41.
This seems to return with Mai dead, Maki scarred and Nobara seriously injured. There's some that claim her not being dead would lower stakes when it's obvious Mahito still would have irreversibly destroyed her youth and beauty that she was proud of all the way back in her introduction in Chapter 4 believing she should be a model.
If being beautiful and dressing up is part of what makes Nobara Kugisaki, Nobara Kugisaki then what is she with half of her face deformed or missing completely?
If Nobara’s main strength is the power of her ego and self confidence, then introducing her back with a severely bruised ego with all the losses she has endured then that could represent a new struggle her character has to deal with. 
The second part of the post brings up that Nobara’s power is currently under-explored, as I said of Yuji and Megumi she seems to be the least connected to the Jujutsu World around her, but Gojo himself said that all of his students are supposed to have remaining potential. Nobara is referred to having come close to feeling the core to cursed energy, which is why she dealt a bigger blow to Mahito than Mahito expected having written her off as weak.

As several people have pointed out before me, Nobara is the only one of the students to feel the core of cursed energy, which is mentioned s Gojo’s feat that allowed him to come back and defeat Toji. Nobara like Gojo, suffered a near fatal wound that put her on the brink of death, but Nitta went into painstaking detail to point out that there wasn’t a zero percent chance of her coming back due to his cursed technique preventing her body from getting any worse. Just like Gojo, her head wasn’t cut off and she wasn’t finished off. 
There’s two possible theories I’ve seen to explain what could lead to Nobara coming back, number one her unlocking reversed curse technique similiar to Gojo. Number one the clear parallel to Nobara in the past trio is Shoko. While Megumi is parallled to Gojo and Geto to Yuji. Gojo even says that reversed cursed technique is impossible to expain and has to be figured out intuitively.

Nobara’s technique also has a couple of techniques that closely resemble reverse cursed technique. Resonance connects her to her opponent, she can even use her own body and connect her with her opponent to share their pain together. Considering she connects herself to the opponent’s soul directly to inflict damage on them (how she attacked Mahito’s soul directly), then either using reversed curse technique to heal isn’t that far of a stretch because she is already fighting y directly applying her cursed eenrgy to someone else, she just inflicts negative harm. Gojo explains reverse cursed technique is quite literally just reversing in order to heal.

Or, there’s the theory my linked post posited that Nobara herself is going to be shown to be an expert of the soul. This is where I bring alchemy into the equation.

This, is the alchemy triangle. 
I��ve explained the significance of the man and woman, small and large circles, square and triangle at some length.  For a story, we need to focus on the triangle.  In spiritual alchemy, the triangle represents soul, spirit, and body.  Heinrich Khunrath helpfully labeled the sides of the triangle in this emblem.  In red capital letters you have Anima (soul), Spiritus (spirit), and Corpus (body).  
It is ambiguous where cursed energy comes and cursed technique comes from, but we are given multiple references for soul, body and mind. Extremely early on it’s mentioned that cursed energy may come from the brain, later on Mahito is able to change Junpei’s brain around in order to awaken his potential for cursed technique. Much, much later Kenjaku does this en masse to awaken a bunch of potential sorcerers.

Mahito refers to the soul and the body afterwards, completing the triangle. Mahito’s cursed technique specifically manipulates the soul to transform the shape of his body around it. In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the soul is definitely something that exists and has form.

Todo even explicitly names the triangle later on when counselling Yuji, people exists in this world mind, body, and soul and sorcerers are at their strongest when they draw strength with all three are in harmony. Whereas Todo explains that the three of them being seperate and in disharmony makes cursed technique weaker.

So the goal of the triangle, and alchemy at large is to find the harmony between the alchemy triangle, or the three main characters that represent mind, body, soul (or sometimes, mind, body and heart). The Wizard of Oz is the most obvious example of three characters having to find harmony with each other in order to accomplish their goals by the end of the story. 
In the Wizard of Oz, Frank Baum used the heart/mind/body triangle in a completely different way.  Rather than marking his protagonist, Dorothy, as heart, as you would expect, Baum assigns heart, mind, and body characteristics to her three companions.  The Tin Man is in search of a heart, the Scarecrow in search of a brain, and the Cowardly Lion in search of “some nerve,” in other words the courage that Body characters typically lack.  
If you were to divide mind, body and soul then you can center the goal of each character of the main trio. Megumi has to find mind, he’s the most cerebral of the trio as the strategist, his entire arc revolves around his ideals (he hypocritically only chooses to save the people he wants too), his biggest flaw is also being inside his own head and refusing to connect with people. 
Yuji is obviously body, he shares his body with an intruder Sukuna, he is also out of harmony with Sukuna because Sukuna constantly possesses him to cause harm to the others around him. He only became a sorcerer in the first place because his body was modified the moment he ate the finger. He was also purposefully birthed for the sake of becoming a vessel, which means he was literally created to be a body for Sukuna to inhabit. Body characters are defined by their hunger and desires, Sukuna’s cursed technique literally revolves around cooking, his true form has a giant mouth on his stomach, Yuji has to eat fingers to grow stronger. 
That would leave Nobara as the soul, which is where I am going to reference the other post again. 
We never seen Gojo referring to Nobara's potential and so it's assumed it's because she's sidelined but there's no reason to say that it's not because her talents might be a major spoiler to whatever True Jujutsu and the Core of Cursed Energy is.
we already know that the power of the soul is something that goes beyond CE. Mahito even remarks all the way back in Chapter 31 that Sukuna should have less CE than Jogo yet his soul is simply on another level. It may be a completely separate power system and part of how Toji and Maki function so well with 0 CE. Their bodies after all can defeat souls.
, In fact, the separation of Sukuna's fingers into 20 is never explained as it's not a requirement seen for any other Special Grade Cursed Object capable of reincarnating like the Death Paintings (they are also mostly human but 1/3(?) curse). We don't actually know why he is different.
The influence souls have on cursed technique are unknown and unexplored too. The necromancer transfigures her grandsons bodies but specifically doesn’t summon the soul, but because Toji has a special body he comes back.

Kenjaku even theorizes that the soul is the body, and the body is the soul therefore their connection influences one another both ways. Which is like... yet another way that Nobara can come back, if the body conforms to the soul and the soul conforms to the body, Nobara being able to manipulate her soul because her CT targets the soul directly could make her change her body enough to come back.

To make an argument with alchemy though, alchemy works by seperating the individual members of the triangle, and then eventually reuniting them. That’s a brief, brief summary of how alchemy works in a story, but basically for the story to be complete the alchemy triangle has to come together. For example, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura are a similiar alchemy triangle, they spend most of the story seperated and developing on their own, but the story cannot end until the three of them reunite again. 
“The triangle symbolizes the tendency of the universe to converge towards the point of unity.” 
“Some philosophers maintain the quadrangle is to be reduced to a triangle, that is to body, spirit and soul. These three appear in three colors which precede the redness: the body, or earth, in saturnine blackness; the psirit in lunar whiteness, like water; and the soul or air, in solar yellow. Then the triangle will be perfect, but in its turn it must change into a circle (that is uncharangeable redness). 
“Out of man and woman make a round circle and extract the quadrangle from this and from the quadrangle the triangle. Make a round circle and you will have the philosopher’s stone.” 
The goal of alchemy is to form the philosopher’s stone, or essentially reach the endpoint of the story. The “man and woman” angle is also important. Remember, Nobara and Yuji have been depicted fighting together three times, the first time they were in disharmony because they just met, the second time they were in harmony after developing their bond as sorcerers and took on the death painting sibs together, the third time they were in disharmony again and they even seperated with Nobara’s “Death”. Alchemy would require the man and the woman coming together again at the end of the story (this doesn’t even specifically have to be romantic, just as symbols, Nobara and Yuji black flashed together they have a lot of potential for harmony). 
Whether or not you ship Sasuke and Sakura (PLEASE THIS iSN’T SHIpS I DONT EVEN SHIP THEM), the story also follows the formula of alchemy, Sasuke and Sakura are seperated for the majority of the story developing on their own and reforging themselves but the story cannot end until man and woman are brought together in a round circle. 
Therefore if Jujutsu Kaisen is an alchemical story, of mind, body and soul and cursed technique is at it’s strongest when these three elements are in harmony with each other, then the story can’t end unless the trio is repaired and Megumi (Mind), Yuji (Body) and Nobara (soul) are brought together once more.

Happy 4th of July to my American friends. Happy 4th to the rest of you as well but I imagine it holds less luster for the Europeans among you. Canadians are excited I know. They are so excited they start celebrating the 4th of July three days early every year. Anyway, this is such a fascinating day for me every year in the fact that I am proud to be an American but always find it impossible to not reflect on the work still left to do. There are words we all know, I think about them a lot. You know…
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.--That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed".
It's a very important moment in history. Of course, what keeps it from being the greatest moment in history of course is the inherent hypocrisy in all of it. Thomas Jefferson wanted to denounce slavery in the document because he as an enlightenment thinker was well aware that slavery was cruel and evil and had no place in the ethos of what we were creating but it turned out slave owners liked having slaves and people really wanted to ignore how wrong it was and no one cared enough for it to be anything but a thing they'd deal with in 80 years. No one at all seemed to have any thoughts about how hollow some of those words sound when you look at the treatment of the native population. It's all tied in together with being an American and I don't think you can praise one part without acknowledging the other. It was an is a grand experiment and that means you have to keep trying. That also means not sliding back into old and bad habits. I have in the past week watched a few documentaries about the Iranian uprising, which has been pretty well suppressed now. I think about the acts of heroism a lot though. Nika Shakarami was one of the many women killed. She was just a girl but a brave one who was willing to fight and lost her life because of it. It might seem strange to talk about Iran here but we're all people and I think about my life. I am proud of being an American because I believe many Americans really do care about freedom and human rights. And I look at my life and objectively it is comfortable and free. It is a privilege that most of my problems come from inside not from the outside. That is not true of everyone around the world and it's not true of everyone in my country. So when I look at a 16 year old girl who just seemed to be a 16 year old girl like anywhere in the world and she died fighting for what is right, well, it reminds me of the cliche that made me roll my eyes when I was 16, that freedom isn't free. Which was mainly said by people who really, really wanted to kill someone and feel good about it but it is true. It is a thing we need to fight for and as an American we should want everyone to have what we have, which is the freedom to be ourselves without fear of reprisal or oppression. That we are allowed to live, that we are allowed to be free to be ourselves, and that we are free to do what makes us happy in life, not be obliged to do what others think and wish we should. And so it's a reminder that actually we all need to keep fighting for that and as Americans we have an easier fight than anyone else. Try empathy, trying caring about others. Recognize how good we have it and ask ourselves what little acts can we do to help others. It's a long road, it's been 246 years and we have so much further to go still but that's always the secret. There is never an end. You don't solve the world and then relax, you keep trying to be better. I am posting Alex Morgan today because she is also an American and one who has represented my country many times and does so in a way I am proud of. Currently, she is at the forefront of promoting the women's world cup, a thing I am very excited about. The women's sport has come a long way and I think it's an example of how pushes for equality help us all. By us all I mean Americans because soccer is a sport that takes a lot of players so when Title IX went into effect schools had to scramble to get sports for women that would create a lot of female athletes to make sure there was equity in student athletes. Thus I grew up in an era where a lot of female athletes played soccer. And the result? American women fucking dominated at soccer for a lot of my lifetime. So you know what, if you're that person who is unsure about the advantages of making things equal, I am here to tell you in a generation it pays off when you are kicking everyone else's ass. Because everyone might be created equal but it takes funding and practice and support for people to get results. Sorta ruined it at the end there didn't I? Oh well. USA! USA! USA! Today I want to fuck Alex Morgan.

I love ur analysis of dsom. I read it a couple years ago and got so frustrated thinking "this is the book everyone is raving about??" The magic system and world has such potential but the characters drag it down. I remember a scene where Kell is up in his feelings about his whole. Incredibly fucked up "family situation". And Delilah is essentially like "well at least you HAVE a family". And the narrative seems to frame that interaction as her being cool and edgy and the voice of truth or whatever. And Kell is like. I guess youre right :( ill stop complaining. But the story doesnt grapple with that any further??? Doesnt use that moment to build out either character beyond "Delilah is so cool and also right (and an asshole but thats what makes her cool)" and "Kell's complex feelings about this are now solved/set aside after this clap back". Family is one of the themes of the book but even this scene doesnt really explore the concept in depth. I may be misremembering it but that one scene just summed up for me everything frustrating about the character writing and the way the story uses the characters. Maybe the issue is revisited in later books. I wouldnt know, bc very little about the writing makes me want to read any more.
Yeah!! Yeah!! That scene was… argh, you’re exactly right. The main source of frustration for Lila for me is that the narrative frames her as right almost always and especially in that instance. And like, if I’m willing to engage with it, it is a telling character moment of hypocrisy where Lila is lashing out in grief after losing Baron (?? I dont remember his name) and is displacing all those feelings onto Kell. But the way it’s handled, like you said, makes me assume that no, Schwab didn’t intend for it to be that deep. It’s so frustrating because the world and the characters have so much potential! With a few more drafts and edits this could be a really good book! But as it stands it’s a 400 page book with little to no plot, hardly any interesting character progression or arcs, boring flat fight scenes, and uninteresting prose. The masquerade scene is there bc she thought it sounded cool. The elements are there bc she thought atla is cool. The fake eye is there because she likes bebop. There’s no actual substance. I have read books half the length that have succeeded in all of these places. I’ve heard similar criticisms of her pacing in other books from people who did like darker shade so, idk, it sounds like she needs a better editor honestly.
And like, yeah, maybe this is revisited in later books, maybe her writing gets better, maybe the second book is fantastic. I honestly had a lot of the same criticisms when I read the Founders Trilogy, but the difference there was that i ADORED the characters and the world building. They were so solid that I HAD to continue even if i had some issues with the writing style and pacing. This series has none of that appeal for me. If she had ended it on a cliffhanger, if she had actually set up this world to be as dark and edgy as she thought it was, if Kell had to use his wits as a smuggler to survive in a place far from his family leading him to conclude that yes he does love them, if Lila had to fight to survive trapped in white london and then come to grips with her violent nature and that its not actually a positive, then I would be all over the rest of the series!! Idk, other reviews mentioned that they were disappointed with this after reading some of her other worlds like viscous, so maybe I’ll give that a try when I feel less burned.

The Death Eaters weren't all about the blood prejudice
And no, that's not the same as saying they weren't prejudiced. Of course they were.
Here's what I am saying: there's a narrative by which, Voldemort took over the wizarding world with the agenda of obliterating and excluding Muggle-borns, which had been foreign to most wizards and indeed forced on them by the tyrant. Indeed, that was his main thing.
I think a more plausible view is that he piggy-backed on that ideology that had already been mainstream, to gain influence and pursue his true ends - immortality, power, and control.
Evidence:
(1) Voldemort wanted to recruit Lily. This evidence is weak, I admit - but it already makes him less fanatical than Bellatrix (and probably Lucius too).
(2) Hagrid doesn't associate Voldemort's followers with blood purism even when explaining what the term "Mudblood" means.
(3) Voldemort himself says: “Haven’t I already told you that killing Mudbloods doesn’t matter to me anymore? For many months now, my new target has been — you.” Funnily enough, there are very few Muggle-borns Voldemort's credited with killing. I can only think of Myrtle and Lily. He had killed Myrtle to prove his Slytherin connection, and he didn't even want to kill Lily. Voldemort's not an ideologue, he's an opportunist, and blood purism was a way to ingratiate himself to the Nobility of the Wizarding World.
(4) In the second war, Umbridge, a non-Death Eater, is the one who has most of the fun with the Muggle Born Registration Committee.
(5) Speaking of Umbridge, she is one of the most openly prejudiced characters in the series, and she moved up in the Ministry, ahead of Arthur Weasley, who was punished for not having proper Wizarding pride. This was after Voldemort fell. And the Minister they chose after the First War was Fudge, whom Dumbledore accused of caring too much about blood purity.
(6) When Rita Skeeter publishes her BS article about Hermione, Harry Potter's supporters send her hate mail that calls her a "Muggle," meaning people didn't immediately associate supporting Harry Potter with not being blood purists. For that purpose, people actually believed Harry was the one taking out all the Muggle-borns in COS.
Yes, we have Lily associating prejudice against people like her and the Death Eaters. We have Regulus who talked about ruling the Muggles and the Muggle-borns. But this proves only that the Death Eaters were willing to go further than others, not that they invented these ideas, never mind that both of them were privy to information (from Dumbledore and from their DE relatives, respectively) other people didn't have, including not necessarily accurate information intended to recruit them to the cause. As evidence goes, this is pretty weak.
Sirius says: "No, no, but believe me, they thought Voldemort had the right idea, they were all for the purification of the Wizarding race, getting rid of Muggle-borns and having purebloods in charge. They weren’t alone either, there were quite a few people, before Voldemort showed his true colors, who thought he had the right idea about things. . . . They got cold feet when they saw what he was prepared to do to get power, though."
Doesn't it make sense to think that... some of what Voldemort was prepared to do to get power was to co-opt an ideology he didn't care about, while conveniently making exceptions for the odd Muggle-born he wanted on his side? Or the odd half-blood?
Voldemort rallies his supporters with talk of the true blood but the context is punishing Tonks and then Charity Burbage - so, again, he is using their existing beliefs to excite them.
This is not a tolerant and open-minded society. This is a prejudiced society with a psychopath taking advantage of preexisting fear and hate to pit people against one another, sow fear, and take over. Again, my thesis is not that the Death Eaters weren't blood purists. It's that they were maybe only a tad more purist than was considered mainstream, a shade less "hypocritical" about it. Well, Hypocrisy is a tribute that vice pays to virtue. Goes to show you there are worse things in the world than being a hypocrite. For example, being a raging violent maniac (but a sincere one).
I think it's one of the best, most interesting bits of writing in the series. I think we all know a prejudiced person or two who isn't as obsessively hateful as Bellatrix, but just... doesn't care enough. Just thinks there's probably something to both sides of the argument or some such. Who has nothing to gain from rocking the boat. Above all, picturing the Death Eaters as transparently evil people dead-set on ridding their society of Muggle-borns for no good reason and against people's general wishes just doesn't make much sense and frankly makes for a worse book. It's hard to picture how they ever became successful if they came out of the blue, frothing at the mouth about a group of people that had been contributing to Wizarding Society for generations, if this had been the case. Reiji ( My powers are surprisingly stable. This becomes more apparent...the more I push her away... )
( I suppose my own emotions were the key to controlling these powers after all? )
( In that case...This might have been for the best. )
( I should even get rid of all the guilt I feel...for having to be so harsh towards her. )
( That is my duty...as the owner of this Eden, as well as the successor to the throne. )
( If she leaves this place, then everything might fall into place. )
( However, what about after that...? )
( Will I truly be able to forget about my feelings for her completely? ...I do not know. )

ー The scene shifts to the big hall in Eden
Azusa: ...I feel bad for Eve.
Kou: Eh? Where did that come from? 
Azusa: Reiji-san might just...hand Eve over to the Church. 
Ruki: What are you talking about? Not to Zweig...and the Vibora clan?
Azusa: You see...
ー Azusa explains the situation to them
Yuma: Ahー ...I don’t get this shit! The Vibora, the Church and her pops!? 
Ruki: Let us get the facts straight. First, we have the Vibora King Zweig who demands the handover of Eve as a sign of the Alliation. 
If we decline their offer, it is possible that a war will break loose between both clans. 
Regardless, Sakamaki Reiji does not intend to agree to their conditions because he does not wish to hand her over. 
Kou: So, unrelated to all of that, there’s somebody in the human world who is holding the Sakamaki brothers hostage, right?
Azusa: The one who sent the letter is named...Kino. I wonder if he’s someone who works for the Church? 
Kou: Either way, we know that this Kino guy is working together with her Father who is associated with the Church and that they are plotting something.
Yuma: So their conditions are the same as the Vibora’s and they want her?
Ruki: If we do not give them Eve, then I believe it is safe to assume that the hostages will be executed. 
Azusa: How are you so sure about that...?
Ruki: Those brothers hold very little value to them if they can not use them to threaten Sakamaki Reiji. 
Either they will execute them as a display of their power...or they will be killed out of spite. I am sure her father bears a grudge against them for kidnapping his daughter. 
Azusa: That’s why Reiji-san...is debating whether or not he should give her up. 
Kou: I mean, who wouldn’t when the lives of your brothers are on the line? 
Yuma: But ya know, weren’t that man and the Church workin’ together as well? 
And the Sakamaki’s are his sons, correct? So can they really afford to hurt them? 
Ruki: Heh, we never knew what they were truly plotting behind the scenes. 
I believe that after Karlheinz-sama’s passing, they decided to take advantage of the chaotic situation in the Demon World,
seeing this as an ideal opportunity to take care of all Demons in the human world at once.
Kou: So in other words, the Church wants to purge the human world of all Demons? 
Ruki: Yes. I can only assume that the Church was never too thrilled about the migration of Demons to the human world. 
Because in the eyes of humans, Demons who possess supernatural powers will only ever be perceived as monsters. 
Karlheinz-sama’s influence was not limited to just the Demon World but spread even beyond that. However, at present this power has been decentralized. 
I’m sure they see this as an ideal opportunity. And they will use everything and everyone they can to achieve this goal. 
Kou: Hmー ...It’s kind of complicated. 
Ruki: ...Either way, there is only one Eve. He has to make a choice between two extremes. 
Azusa: Correction, three choices...actually. There’s also the option...of not handing Eve over to anyone...right?
Ruki: That all depends on Sakamaki Reiji. She is the vital trump card in all of this after all.
Kou: Trump card, huh? ...M-neko-chan might not be aware of this herself but...
She’s always been used as a tool in Karlheinz-sama’s deal with the Church, hasn’t she? ...I honestly feel for her.
Kou: However, since her father was associated with the Church even back then...
This basically means that he allowed his own daughter to be sent to the Sakamaki manor despite knowing very well what Karlheinz-sama’s ulterior motives were, right?
Ruki: We cannot say that for sure. However, what is clear right now is that Seiji wishes to have his daughter back.
Azusa: What do you think...we should do, Ruki...?
Ruki: Good quetion. The decision is up to Sakamaki Reiji but...I personally believe that he should prioritize the Demon World over the human world. 
Even if this means having to sacrifice his brothers, I think he should choose to preserve the Alliance with the Vibora Clan. 
Yuma: I mean, I guess.
Kou: I bet you don’t actually understand much of what we said, do you? 
Yuma: That’s not true!
Azusa: ...
ー The scene shifts back to the guest room
Yui: ( ...I doubt I’ll be able to sleep any time soon. )
Monologue
I remain cooped up in my room, stuck in one place,
as I mindlessly stare into the distance. 
I get a sense of relief from the unchanging scenery. 
As I sit here spacing out,
there are many things rapidly changing. 
I am sure that even right now, somewhere in this world,
life goes on. 
Swallowed by the many thoughts running through my head,
I gradually lose sight of the truth (真実) within myself.
Perhaps there truly is nothing,
which lasts forever (揺るがないもの).

Spoiler-Free Review: Godsdamn but this book makes me FUCKING ANGRY! I mean this in a good way, by the way, as this is frankly speaking a pretty good read.
Look, it’s not every day that a book pisses me off, but this one pissed me off in the best possible way, with its focus on the sheer hypocrisy of white people - specifically privileged white women - when it comes to the much larger suffering that everyone else around them experiences. From the moment she is introduced all the way to the very end of this novel, Bunny/Elizabeth thinks of no one but herself. Her disinterest as a teenager can be forgiven, I suppose, because I think a majority of teenagers are self-centered little shits to varying degrees - and I say that as a teenager who was pretty self-centered myself. The few who aren’t are rare and far between.
But later on, as she grows more and more comfortable in her place in the oil industry, you can practically SEE her convincing herself that what she’s doing, what her industry is doing, is right and just and not as problematic as everyone thinks it is. Worse, one can also read how she twists her WILLFUL IGNORANCE into a VIRTUE because IT BENEFITS HER TO DO SO. It’s just so INFURIATING to see that happen, since she has the privilege and the opportunity to do better, and yet: SHE DOESN’T!
The funny thing is, SHE GETS CALLED OUT ON IT! There are several moments throughout the novel wherein she is forced to confront how she doesn’t take a stand on anything, for just sitting on a fence, for thinking only of her own comfort, and while she sometimes pauses to think about what the other person’s saying and wonder if maybe they’re right, you can almost FEEL her flinch away from anything that makes her uncomfortable. THEN she goes RIGHT back to thinking any line of thought that makes her feel “safe” and one gets to watch as she chooses the path that makes her feel better, even if it comes at the cost of other people’s lives. They’re not HER people after all, how can she consider the plight of some nebulous entity who lives half the world away and whom she’s never met? This takes a chillingly exploitative turn towards the end of the novel.
I’ll admit, for a few moments while reading this I wonder if there’s anything she could have realistically done to actually take a stand and do something. The size and complexity of the oil industry is mentioned repeatedly throughout the novel; at various points Bunny/Elizabeth herself says that she can’t understand all of it, no matter how hard she tries. And when one is faced with something THAT big, that has the capacity to mutate into a new form to avoid accountability and instead re-emerge stronger than ever— How does one fight against something like that? Seen from that perspective maybe Bunny/Elizabeth’s reticence can be understood, even sympathized with, but after a certain point even this sympathy evaporates because it becomes clear that she’s CHOOSING to remain complacent.
But the interesting thing is, all this rage at Bunny/Elizabeth and the life she’s chosen can easily be turned on oneself. You read this book and wind up asking yourself: “Am I actually doing anything about the way the world works? Am I doing enough?” These are important questions, in my opinion, and applies to a lot more issues than just the theme of climate crisis that this book’s built around. None of these questions are comfortable or soothing, and the potential answers are likely to be less so, but they’re questions we need to ask regardless, if we don’t want to face the same kind of future Bunny/Elizabeth faces at the end of the novel.
Overall, this is an infuriating read, but excellent precisely BECAUSE it’s infuriating. It reveals some very uncomfortable truths and make the reader as some very difficult questions, leading to answers that are probably even MORE uncomfortable and difficult than the questions themselves. But the novel also emphasizes the need to ask those questions and find those answers, because seeking only to live in a bubble of comfort, unbothered and undisturbed by the wider world’s troubles, means living a life devoid of compassion and empathy, and only leads to a future where the entire world suffers.

‘Why? Were you up to no good?’
‘In a manner of speaking.’
Hallbjorn mulls over this in the studious, trying-terribly-hard fashion of youth. His hair is pulled back out of his face this day, save for several curls who misbehave, waving jauntily about his forehead in the breeze.
‘What’d you do?’ Hallbjorn finally asks.
Gríma opens his mouth, fishes for a bit, shuts it. Smokes assiduously. Exhales and thinks that he misses Frodo’s company. The hobbit never asked too many questions. Or, if he did ask, there was a purpose to them and he had such a way of asking that Gríma didn’t mind very much—at least, at the end of the day, he didn’t mind very much.
‘I broke an oath,’ Gríma replies. Having finished his pipe, he pulls himself a second bowl. ‘And I committed a great betrayal.’
‘To who? Your wife?’
‘My—what? No. Why would you assume that? No one says I cheated on my wife like that.’
‘I don’t know. That’s how my grandfather put it. Mum’s dad.’

Marcus Aurelianus is not proving soothing. Vetinari notes down in his journal some of the more sage advice he wishes to emulate but struggles to apply himself to them at this moment. He writes, Let it be thy earnest and incessant care as a Morkporkian and a man to perform whatsoever it is that thou art about, with true and unfeigned gravity, natural affection, freedom and justice: and as for all other cares, and imaginations, how thou mayest ease thy mind of them. Which thou shalt do; if thou shalt go about every action as thy last action, free from all vanity, all passionate and willful aberration from reason, and from all hypocrisy, and self-love, and dislike of those things, which by the fates or appointment of the Gods have happened unto thee.
Finishing the passage, which takes up two pages when written out in a proper manner, he stares at it. What did he expect to feel upon inhuming Winder? Gratification? Pride? Knowing he had rid Ankh-Morpork of yet another vain, petty and cruel patrician.
Should he have wanted to feel pride for it? Vanity? Is he vain?
Perhaps he is not made of the stern stuff he wished to fashion himself out of. Perhaps he is soft materials like his colleagues at the Guild. He is no Marcus Aurelianus.

‘If I got a doctorate and if I advanced through the ranks at the Guild I could end up a lord, you know.’ 
Amos snorts. Wouldn’t that be the day—his son, a lord. 
‘If I continued there I’d be a gentleman,’ Downey snaps. ‘I wouldn’t have my hand in trade.’ 
‘A bloodstained hand is worse than a hand that does honest work?’ Asked quietly. The room becomes brittle. Downey’s mind scatters off then regroups itself. He shakes his head. ‘I fear I have failed you in one regard, William, which is that I’ve allowed you to become used to getting whatever it is you want at the snap of your fingers. That isn’t how things work in life and the world has harsh ways of teaching those who do not learn this lesson early.’ 
Downey focuses on his cards. His father’s gaze burrows into his skull and he wants to protest this assessment. He isn’t selfish! Indeed, he is well equipped to handle things when they don’t go to his liking. He does it all the time at the Guild. 
Exhibit A: Vetinari, that scag, was made his lab partner in applied poisons for three years in a row. Downey did inform Dr. Tindel that this was a deplorable state of affairs but his favoured professor remained uninterested in altering the seating arrangement. 
Once it became clear no cajoling would work to budge the Dog-botherer on and get someone decent in as a lab-partner, like Willis, Downey gave up and likes to think he accepted the situation with grace. He can bear ignominy nobly.
This hand Downey wins. He silently lays his cards out and calculates the score. His father allows the silence grow and linger and gain weight. 
 biased.
Jacopo is one for French lutes and songs, says they have more depth. Cristof informed Nicolo of this once to which Nicolo sneered: French music is pretty enough, I’ll grant. Fashionable, even. But it is Venetian and Tuscan that lifts the soul.
And Andalusian?
Nicolo leaned in with sly expression, I have a special fondness for that form, I must admit. But then, I am terribly biased.

The comment in Gideon the Ninth about soul siphoning being the only necromancy condemned by the emperor is so interesting to me. Why would he condemn it? I'm willing to brush it off as a comment on his character-"I'll be an imperialist, I'll desecrate bodies and souls after death, I'll manipulate my friends for 10 thousand years, I'll kill the whole world and eat the soul of the planet earth, but I draw the line at soul siphoning"- his desperation to see himself as a deeply righteous person, his hypocrisy, but I also doubt that's all there is to it. I wonder very much if it has to do with lyctorhood- forgive me if this is a rudimentary grasp of the fantasy death science, but isn't that just the natural progression of that branch of necromancy? God's chapters in nona the ninth seemed especially evocative as far as the imagery of him like,, "siphoning" the soul out of the planet and into himself. The lyctors use the souls of their cavaliers as an endless power well, an expansion of the 8th trial and the way Silas did with Colum. Cristabel being of the eighth and being the one to help john discover the soul is also not lost on me. Idk I just wonder if it has less to do with moral aversion and more to do with wanting to limit who in the galaxy might discover information about lyctorhood- either because he wants to limit who can become a lyctor or because he doesn't want the secrets of "true lyctorhood" to be revealed. Maybe its an attempt to maintain power or to ensure that his friends still like him at the end of the day forever, or both.

Man Only now did I realize that because of Lance the crystal was not only one time in danger but two times!😭 If only he could have not destroyed the crystal 8 years before nothing of this would have happened. And we have to fix his bullshit those two times? By sacrificing ourselves??? 😂😭 I need to hit him even harder or make a petition to HH so he can be the new sacrifice 😈😈😈
Well, yes. A fair point. He can definitely be blamed. I'll not jump to his defense and tell you he isn't, even if I've always been on his side.
I don't think anyone should sacrifice anything. You know, we don't just harvest every healthy organ from fresh corpses if the person didn't give consent when they were alive. By pressuring them to give up their body and life, they granted Erika and Leiftan less bodily autonomy than what we give to a lifeless body. I'm not sure how it happened exactly, I didn't have it in me to finish the last episode, but I know that this is some serious monkey business.
Lance might be a nutcase sociopath with every last one of his screws lose, but he still has the right to decide if he wants that. Eldarya was never supposed to exist, it was born of hatred and cruelty and it was destined to fail right from the start, he knows that and he was trying to rip the bandaid off to get it over with.
The fae may claim whatever reason they want for why it was necessary, but that will never make it be worth it. It's not the aengels fault that their food is inedible, they had the right to not die. The fact that they were massacred by the fae is proof to me that humans were never the problem. These pieces of shit, entitled bastards doomed their descendants to a slow and painful extinction in a world that's botched beyond words. They teach it in schools that the humans were hateful and hostile, they say that's why they left, but who's really the problem if they're willing to do the exact same thing to the aengels? This is a clean cut textbook example of hypocrisy.
On a smaller scale, it's like having a drunk guy flirt with you and asking you to go home with him, but when you say no he assaults you. He took what he wanted anyway, even if you had the right to refuse.
Lance is not very nice, but he's definitely a good person. He does his thing and let's others do theirs unless it's his business to mind. He has some less than ideal methods but in the end he just wants to make everything right. What he thinks is right, at least.
Isn't that what everyone is doing? Well, some people want what's best for themselves and they step on others, but clearly our main characters are not like that. (some might be) Miiko did what she could to stop him because she sincerely believed that the crystal is their lifeline and she thinks that the best thing is to keep on living. They disagreed, they thought each other to be equally wrong, yet only one of them was condemned. She was unfit to lead, she should have gotten more help but for some reason she was the only person good enough. Apparently only rich people are allowed to lead the light guard. It's a wholesale size can of worms that I shouldn't open, let's talk about something else...
Erika us not that smart. She doesn't know how to read between the lines and doesn't see below the surface. She's attached to the guard because she doesn't know any better, she was never exposed to anything but the guidance of her inadequate leaders and of men who have no business getting into a relationship with their employee. They call her weak, they treat her like a child, they control her life completely, and yet she's equal enough to them to give consent? Weirdos. It's perverted, honestly.
They groomed her to think what they do is the only right thing and she gave up everything she had to please them. Somehow whenever she questioned them she could be coaxed back into their arms and made to forget it ever happened. She's a victim, and now that Lance works for the guard, he's just as gaslit as her.
The guard of El is a cult that manipulates it's members. They play with innocent lives like they have the right and they only allow people of high class to become their leaders.
Eldarya is unsustainable. Everything that's meant to be can sustain itself by nature, if this world is only kept alive artificially then it's time to take it off life support. It's not anyone's fault that it's dying, especially not Lance's.
If I may refer to Fullmetal alchemist, let me just say that this abomination of a world is like that thing Ed and Alf created when they tried to resurrect their mother.
It was never going to live, it's every moment is agony, let it die.
I know I said I won't jump to his defense, yet I did. Oops. He might seem like a vigilantee, but think about it. What makes him any less worthy to take action than the guard? Nothing. The guard is exactly like him and his army, but lead by leashes instead by good reason.
Anyway, moral of the story is: Don't complain when you get arrested after violating someone's consent. You're not the victim, you asshole.
