the fluffiest of the fluff, the large tolype moth. proudly holding their front legs ahead they show all the fluffy fluff that they have (its fluffy) i imagine if these were the side of a person the fluff would be as soft as those soap bubbles you add to a bath :)

i have a question about tolype moths; they have a spot of curly, wiry hairs on their back. what is it? i tried to look it up and only found one person claiming females tore it off to protect eggs but they didnt sound confident. is it soft?
Hi! So sorry for the late reply.
The females do in fact use scales (hair) from their thoraxes to cover their eggs. However, I can’t find if they specifically use the dark hairs on their back. They may also use the white hair on their front or a mix of both, but I can’t find a source that specifies.
I also can’t find if the dark scales are soft, but I would avoid touching them as the caterpillars of the large tolype moth are covered poisonous spines. It is unclear if the adult moth has any toxins but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
Hope this helped! :]

Was going through my camera roll and found my encounter with this adorable creature- a large tolype moth (Tolype velleda), 9/16/2022
Literally looks like someone needlefelted it, I thought someone had lost a keychain on the sidewalk until I got closer to it

A few folks were interested in the Ze’mer design from the last post so here she is a bit more refined. Definitely took heavy inspo from the dancer of the boreal valley because it’s a great design with both armor and grace, which I think really fits for her knight days.
I’ve always had trouble figuring out what kind of bug she’d be so she’s a mix of a few things here, very stylized. Took some vague features from silverfish, the tolype moth, and a dobsonfly. Maybe she even has wings under all that fluff, who knows!

ehehe moth concept :] this is Lima (they/them, he/him)!
Lima is a shapeshifter but he's only really good at changing colors. the 2nd image is an example of him mimicking weaver's colors :] (note: for some reason, Lima can't remove the white markings on their body)
Uhhh Lima is based on these moth species: december moth, large tolype moth, Hampson's salad (yes, that's it's name), and the western sheep moth.
