Okay but the scene in queen of air and darkness when Dru pretends to be Vanessa Ashdown so that they can trick Barnabas Hale is one of my favourites for two reasons

first cuz Ty becomes all protective over Dru and it makes me so happy cuz he is such a good big brother

Is Cameron’s entire family on the cohorts side?? I know Vanessa and Paige are but did Vanessa and Paige just stay in idris without their parents? And is Paige even allowed to be in the cohort she’s 15. Vanessa must be around 22, Did Cameron come back to LA without anyone else in his family??

Damn, An, I think you found a plot hole. I mean, Cameron is old enough to stay in LA, but idk why he would other than the fact that Emma is there. I don't think I can answer your question really well since I don't remember enough about the Ashdowns to theorize much about them, but here's the best I can do:

I think only Paige and Vanessa were supporters. Maybe Vanessa swayed her or something. Paige comes back with Cam to LA after the battle, so I guess they still lived in LA and maybe Paige was staying with Vanessa's parents (her aunt and uncle) for whatever reason. Since we don't get much about the adult Ashdowns, I think that they're probably indifferent to the whole thing; they have old-fashioned ideas, but not extreme enough to fully agree with or support the cohort, yet they don't 100% share the same ideas our protagonists do. Idk if that makes sense

Ashdowns vs Carstairs

I was looking for something in Lady Midnight and instead I found this:

“The Ashdowns and the Carstairs don’t get along,” she [Emma] said. “It’s a well-known fact.”

She could just mean the families at the time, because Vanessa and Paige Ashdown were not nice people in general, but then why specifically Carstairs? She was the only Carstairs at the time. 

And then I found this line in Cast Long Shadows: 

Lucie and Cordelia had wanted to be made parabatai before they were parted, but they were warned that sometimes you regret a bond made young, and sometimes one partner or other would change their mind. Particularly, Laurence Ashdown had remarked, since ladies could be so flighty.

Who is this Laurence Ashdown guy, apart from most probably being the son of the Dean of the Academy (Dean Ashdown)? He is never mentioned again in that story, but it sounds like Lucie knows him to some extent. 

Could Laurence Ashdown actually be a somewhat significant character in TLH and be the reason why “the Ashdowns and the Carstairs don’t get along”?

I have FINALLY FINISHED QOAAD

and I just need to say

WTF IS THIS?!!!!!!!!

I liked the ending, don’t get me wrong

but it didn’t feel like an ending. 

Usually, Cassie’s endings are really good, satisfying, and happy. 

But this felt more like the beginning

BECAUSE THE LAST FUCKING 80 PAGES OR SOMETHING IT WAS JUST A WHIRLWIND

SO MUCH WAS SET UP FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THOSE LAST PAGES

also the cohorts logic makes no sense because they are shadowhunters people who hunt demons and demons can’t even get into Alicante. 

So I’m just really confused as to how they think they are going to better the world by locking themselves up in a demon-free world.

And *spoiler for people who haven’t read the short story* CLACE IS FINALLY ENGAGED 

Also what is the deal with Simon and Izzy 

THE WHOLE FREAKING BOOK IT WAS JUST LIKE “Oh, there’s Simon and Izzy with the kids” Or “Emma saw Simon and Izzy from a distant and waved at them” LIKE EXCUSE ME??? I LOVE SIMON AND IZZY I REALLY JUST WANT TO TALK TO THEM. I NEED INFORMATION. DO THEY HAVE A DATE SET FOR THE WEDDING? WHAT’S THE PLAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I really wanted Julian and Simon to become friends in this book. 

And that one scene where Simon and Izzy were talking to Emma and Julian before they went to Faerie was amazing I love them sm. 

Let’s list off all of the Iconic things that happened in Qoaad: 

1. Dru dressing up like Vanessa Ashdown

2. Kit ‘forgetting’ his weapons. “You’re so forked”

3. Simon giving Julian a D&D figurine and then Julian actually using it to save Emma

4. Emma making fun of Jace’s beard

5. Diana slicing Horace’s arm off

6. Julian literally PHOTOCOPYING THE WHOLE BLACK BOOK 

7. Every single Office Max joke

8. the clarification that Izzy isn’t actually a bad cook, she just literally likes the most disgusting foods. (Ketchup and S’mores)

9. Aline breaking a lamp to get the others attention

I’m literally so sad that Kit and Ty left on such bad terms, and I’m sad that Kitty didn’t happen, but Kit deserves a family and I’m SO EXCITED THAT HE’S GOING TO LIVE WITH JEM AND TESSA BECAUSE IT’S LIKE WHAT JEM SAID IN TID THAT THEY WERE ON A WHEEL, AND THEY ARE ON A WHEEL. BECAUSE IT ALWAYS COMES BACK TO THE CARSTAIRS, HERONDALES, AND TESSA. 

Livvy’s ghost being tied to Ty. Can we just take a moment and acknowledge how bad this is probably going to be for Ty. I mean, for now, Dru and Ty pry think it’s a good thing, but Livvy is tied to Ty forever. His dead sister's ghost will always be with him, and I feel like this is going to be a very big part of how Ty changes as a person in TWP. But, like, he’s also never going to be able to properly grieve his sister's death. 

Also, Julian carving “You are in the cage” into his arm was so glossed over. He put a knife to his skin and cut. He harmed himself. We got two reactions, but then it was forgotten. And it shouldn’t have been. There should have been more emotional damage from that, but there wasn’t. That was really my only problem with Qoaad.  

I like Helen and Aline, but I feel like Aline was way too hard on the kids. They’re all young and grieving the loss of their sister, and had just found out that their father figure (Julian) had been sent on a suicide mission with Emma. They were all trying to get used to everything and Aline being that harsh with the kids was unnecessary.  Helen was trying to get used to everything as well, and Dru was keeping her distance because she felt like Helen was going to leave again. Aline should have been kinder with the kids. 

Overall, I’m hyperventilating and really just want TWP to be out already. Also, it’s weird because I was so late to this fandom that I’ve been only reading SHC for over a year, and now there are no more books to read and I don’t even know what to do with myself rn and I miss Julian, Emma, Dru, Mark, Helen, Aline, Kieran, Kit, Tessa, Jem, and EVERYONE. I WANT THEM BACK. 

Also, I’m so glad that Alec gets to rebuild the Clave. He’s going to do such a good job. I’m so proud of him.
