I've said I wish blizzard gave the night elves (all races with glowing eyes, really) visible irises and pupils because it allows for more expressiveness in the face, and so on. But I just realized they might have actually attempted to? Either that or their gradient tool didn't gradient enough.

Cause there is definitely a separation between white and lighter blue and darker blue.

And the colors match up at least somewhat with the depiction in Warbringers: Sylvanas (scleras being a dark blue)

One of my favorite metaphors of Glass Onion is the Mona Lisa vs the Glass Onion.
Miles is constantly comparing himself, whether directly or indirectly, to the Mona Lisa. He wants to be “forever remembered in the same breath” as her. He plays up the mystery and the complexity of the painting, the artistry, the skill and the knowledge that went into it; All traits that he wants others to see in him.
But when Miles is describing the painting, who gets the closeup shot? Not Miles, but Helen. Helen is the one who gets multiple shots throughout the movie mirroring the Mona Lisa- same pose, same unreadable expression.
Because Miles isn’t the Mona Lisa, however much he wishes he was. Miles is the Glass Onion. Something trying to look complex and layered on the outside, when in reality, the center is in plain sight. Miles isn’t some enigmatic genius, he is exactly what he appears to be at first glance: an idiotic, rich, egotistical, shithead.
He didn’t make his own puzzles, he didn’t write his own murder, he didn’t create his own art, he didn’t even come up with the idea for his company. His island is filled with things made by other people. He isn’t even the person who did the thing that will forever connect him to the Mona Lisa. The thing that will forever tie him to Helen Brand.
Helen is the one with complexity. Helen is the one surrounded by mystery. Helen is the one who’s more than meets the eye. Helen is the Mona Lisa, and the Mona Lisa destroyed herself to take down Miles Bron.

Flashback Panel 1: In the background, a memory from the flashback is visible. It shows Uldren and Jolyon standing in a kitchen. Jolyon is standing behind Uldren and holding his waist affectionately. Uldren is holding a mixing bowl on the kitchen counter with one hand, and is pouring something into the bowl with his other hand. Several ingredients are visible strewn all over the counter, along with piles of spilled dough. Jolyon: “Haha, what are you doing? You’ve got to measure.” Uldren: “Following my royal intuition.” Jolyon: “Your intuition kind of looks like cat puke.”

Panel 39: In present day, Jolyon is staring down at the tin of cookies, smiling faintly. Crow (offscreen): “We didn’t really have much of a plan…” Jolyon: “Uldren wasn’t big on plans. Or recipes.”
Panel 40: Jolyon says from offscreen, above the rest of the panel: “Whatever they were, they didn’t turn out very good.” In the panel, Crow is blushing furiously, looking nervously at a thought bubble to his left with a shaky smile. Within his thought bubble another memory is visible, of Jolyon and Uldren kissing passionately on a couch. In the background of the memory, several “BEEP” sound effects are visible. Jolyon is on top of Uldren, holding Uldren’s head in one hand while kissing his neck. Uldren is smirking, while pulling Jolyon’s shirt off with both hands. Jolyon (flashback): “Oven’s going off. We should probably get that.” Uldren (flashback): “I don’t give a shit.” Crow (present day): “Um. Yeah. They were kind of… burnt…”

I've talked about it before but the use of Spaghetti Western shots primarily on Izzy in season one and then with the eye closeup on Kraken-era Blackbeard is such a loud choice.
These type of shots are used during standoffs and with the "bad guys."
Izzy, Fang, and Ivan's introduction: How in every shot Izzy is in front, with the duo flanking him. How the camera zoom in and plays western music. The choice of their dark clothing versus Stede and co's light clothing.
How Izzy talks like a Shakespearean villain, immediately drawing you in, while Stede fumbles his way to beating Izzy (not for the first time) and we see just how much Stede's crew is out of their depth in the classic pirate sense, yet in their own way perfectly adequate. And this and the combination of Izzy's lies to Ed just fuel Ed's obsession of Stede.
The shot through Stede's legs when they start their fuckery, get their men back, also reveals the power dynamic, the trio still in the villain shot and Stede in the hero one. We already know just from this dynamic that Stede is going to win.
The closeup in Kraken-era Blackbeard. He is just going through the motions, it's just another Tuesday, another raid. And we see how dead his eyes are; how devoid of life they were in the past. Instead, as he states during this scene, he's the devil; he's full on embracing the picture of himself in Ed's book with nine guns and even using the term "devil pyrate." The standoff is between him and himself, while being framed as the wedding they attack.
I am obsessed that only Izzy and Kraken-era Blackbeard are shot this way. Cause it shows and tells you exactly how you are supposed to feel about them using old camerawork techniques and cues.

one thing i noticed (and loved!!!!) in nimona is the different eye-shine shapes. specifically the way they changed as the story progressed, specifically focusing on ballister and ambrosius

in this first scene their eyeshines are a very similar square diamond shape. they still share it right after the part where ambrosius cuts ballister's arm off

however immediately after, when ballister falls through the hole in the platform we get a brief shot of his face:

later we see ballister creating his new arm, and immediately after when nimona knocks on the door we see his eyes again, and the shines are completely square. not really any ambiguity to it, the tilt of them is entirely gone

ballister isnt super consistent with this, but from here on his eyeshines remain mostly square. there are a few moments when they tilt again to resemble how they were in the first scene, eg. when he's telling nimona he's not a villain, and when she reminds him that ambrosius cut off his arm and he tells her its complicated, as well as more later that i wont get into now

also this is the part where i just now noticed nimona's upper earring on her left ear is a star hoop :) very neat
nimona snaps ballister out of his daze (square again), makes him promise he wont freak out (still square) and then he rides off on rhino-nimona (square). when he sees and almost runs over ambrosius in the hallway, the brief seconds he's looking at him, his eyeshines tilt again into a diamond. no screenshot of this one because it's hard to get the timing right on motion shots
when ballister wakes up back at the lair they're square again

when he's looking at the photo wall (at ambrosius's photo specifically) i expected them to become diamonds again, but here they stay square! i am quickly realizing this post is mostly an excuse to stare closely at ballister's big baby seal eyes

in the photo ambrosius's eyeshines are triangles which isn't a shape we've seen on him before. i dont think this really means anything though its just neat

it's not clear in the screenshot but the fire in the background is ALSO diamond shaped which probably means nothing but again, is pretty neat
and then yeah basically from there their eyeshines stay the same shape to the end of the movie including the epilogue. i cant add any more images to this post though so i will have to stop here!!! just take my word for it. their (i say their but i really mean ballister's, because ambrosius doesn't get any more good eye shots after the beginning of the epilogue) stay their respective shape until the very end
"wow, nik, this post was beyond pointless" you might be thinking and yeah maybe!!! this may be all coincidence and i may be looking for things that are not even remotely there!!! but guess what i sat here for over an hour taking screenshots and putting this post together so by god i WILL see it to its end
my idea is that the changing eyeshine shapes represent their paths splitting and then coming back together again. at the beginning they have the same eyeshine shape; they're together, they understand each other, they think the same way. (this is a good time for me to note that the director's eyeshine shape is also a vertically oriented rhombus.)
then the betrayal happens. ballister kills the queen, ambrosius cuts of ballister's arm. they still have the same eyeshine shape here; but then ballister falls and ambrosius doesn't fall with him. this is where they separate - this is the betrayal
after making himself a prosthetic ballister's eyeshines are a different shape, more clearly now. he is apart from ambrosius, they're no longer a unit. however his eyeshines still appear as diamonds occasionally, namely in moments where he's with or thinking about ambrosius (or the institute, im mainly thinking of the "im not a villain" line when he's thinking i'm still a knight, i'm still good)
ambrosius's eyeshines are still the same diamond-like shape. when he and ballister see each other again they briefly share a shape again. it's not as similar anymore, and they're not the same as they were. there's still this rift of betrayal between them. but in that moment they're having, well, a moment
in the closet when he's thinking of ambrosius's betrayal (did you see the way he looked at me?) his eyeshines change between square and diamond
then cut to ambrosius, who's eyeshines are also a different shape now: when he's formalizing his betrayal to he and ballister's relationship, officially declaring that he will be the one to hunt him down. but there's a moment where his armor is being put on where he looks down with guilt and diamond shaped eyeshines
i dont even want to talk about the subway footage part because i still keep mistaking the long triangles for hearts which is killing me. killing me DEAD. if his eyeshines were really hearts when he was saying things like "something doesn't feel right, he hates freestyle jazz" i think i'd just explode or something. moving on
during the confrontation at the institute, before ballister tries to pull out the phone and is telling ambrosius he has proof, ambrosius's eyeshines are diamonds! just like in the beginning! i think here it's more representative of how he wants to believe ballister, despite the director whispering in his ear not to, how he badly wants for all of this to be a misunderstanding and for proof that ballister didn't betray the institute, didn't betray him. he doesn't want to lose his best friend (and more)
but ballister's eyeshines are square here- like he says a few seconds later, "you shouldn't need proof." he's being betrayed again, ambrosius doesn't believe in him after all. but even when pointing a sword at ballister he looks at him with diamond eyeshines. when nimona begins doing her thing his eyeshines are triangles again, like he and ballister are fully diverging paths again
you get the idea. their eyeshines are representing of their emotions about, and relationship with each other. so then why don't they go back to the diamond shape at the end of the movie? why are their eyeshines different even when it's clear that they've made up, they're happy now, things are different?
well i DO have an explanation for this. things are different now! they're no longer under the thumb of the institute (is this a good time to mention again that the director's eyeshines are also diamonds), a section of the wall is down, the kingdom is different! it's changing!
and so have they! the way i'm choosing to read into this, is that they're not the same people as they were at the beginning of the movie. they're not both brainwashed into thinking the same way, having the same ideology where cutting off your boyfriend's arm instead of disarming him isn't only justifiable, it's what's expected. now they're their own people, who aren't under constant pressure of a legacy or an institute. they've grown! and now it's okay that they don't think the exact same, because they love each other, and are now capable of loving each other like this
tldr this movie is great i love it here :)

I keep seeing this description pop up in fic and now here, and it barks the very shins of my brain so I have to make this argument.
Y'all. Yautja do not have small eyes.
What they have is eyes the size of human eyes in BIG. CHIBI. HEADS.

Look at a picture of Kevin Peter Hall in the Jungle Predsuit without the head. Look at the size of his eyes. Look at the size of his head. Now look at the size of the Predator's head. Yautja don't have small eyes, they have ENORMOUS SKULLS.
Like it is literally a plot and relationship-development point in AVP that Yautja eyes can look human. Scar's green eyes and dilated pupils (especially compared to the red-ringed yellow eyes and constricted pupils Predator fans are expecting) humanize Scar for Lex and for the audience when he removes his mask. That's why there's a close-up shot of his face BEFORE he roars at her: so the audience are forced to look at his eyes and receive the message that Lex has looked at Scar and seen a person and not a monster; that's how we understand why Lex doesn't flinch or run when Scar gives that iconic roar.

It's a great callback to the unmasking in the original Predator, and it uses the unmasking-closeup-roar in a new way, showing the audience that yes, this is a Predator, but he's not quite as alien and hostile as all the Predators we've known before. It's also a wonderful moment of communication between the characters: Scar's challenge isn't "I'm going to fuck you up, Ahnold," it's "Here I am, big and scary, can you still handle being friends?" And Lex' answer is "Yes, I see you, yes you're scary, but I'm not going anywhere."
That relationship-building is what gives the final action sequence of AVP its stakes, its emotional weight: this isn't just a random Predator whaling on a Xenoqueen, this is Lex' friend, risking his life to protect his friend, who accepted him and joined his murderclub. Scar's death is painful to us because he's personalized in a way Celtic and Chopper aren't, in a way no previous (canonical) Predator has been. That personalization revolves around that pivotal unmasking moment when Lex--and the audience--notices not how alien Scar's face is, but how human his eyes are. If Yautja eyes are not similar to human eyes, the entire end of the movie wouldn't work as well as it does.

so we can all agree that the newest 2WEI song (take the crown) is the trailer song for an Antarctic Empires Emerald Duo pg14 movie where Techno is a gladiator who earned his freedom and has vowed to destroy the government that enslaved him and Philza is an old demigod banished to a solitary plane of existence for five decades after attempting to run a coup against the ruling class.
They meet on a battlefield, Techno having joined up as brute muscle and Phil having used some minor illusions to pass as a quirky avian and join the bombardment team. Combining some similar plot beats as Oceans 11 and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, they gather a specialized team of insurrectionists, anarchists, battle mages, and warriors to take down the imperium from the inside, eventually planning on restoring the nation to the democracy it was in Phil’s earliest memories. But will they manage it, or will their bloody pasts and violent present seat Technoblade on the throne as the Antarctic Emperor, with Philza as his right hand, the Angel of Death? (Spoiler, the second option. It’s the most controversial film finale decision of the decade.)
The movie is filmed in a style somewhere between Dune 1, the Prince of Egypt, and Topgun. (denis villeneuve is too busy and too expensive, but it’s clear they’re taking inspiration. Bold colors and lighting and a lot of shots of the sky, wildlife, architecture, or of characters’ hands.) It’s scored by an up and coming indie musician, working under the consultation of Ludwig Gorannson in his spare time as a pet project, though his association with the film doesn’t really come out until it Smashes the expected theatre income in the first two days of release and critics start Raving about it. Techno’s actor is nominated for an Oscar for one of the most compelling intricate portrayals of ptsd and platonic devotion in modern cinema, but doesn’t actually get the Oscar.
Tumblr is flooded with gif sets of Techno in the Obligatory No Armor After Gladiator Fight Scene and the Late Night Vibing With Phil In A Loose Poet Shirt scene (firelit, lots of closeups of his eyes, the film is obviously attempting to express his complex emotional state and his deep relationship with Phil, and is failing miserably at doing Anything but making him hot. The internet is ✨gay✨ about it, because when is the internet not?) Also most of the simps are calling Phil a dilf.
Fit MC is the fan-favorite side character, his four scenes and nine lines of dialogue are clipped and edited and giffed and memed into the dirt. (His armor and prosthetic, the makeup and costuming department say, were the hardest thing to do in the entire film, which is why he isn’t in too many shots.) Though, a close second is Niki, who is played by a woman built like a brick house who doesn’t wear sleeves, so…. Yeah. We all know what the response is there. The effects, including Phil’s wings, are almost entirely practical and the only real places it gets iffy is Steve, the giant war polar bear that’s pretty clearly clipping through a few snowbanks here and there. Nobody can agree on which characters are morally reprehensible.
Within a few years, very few people outside a dedicated fan base have seen it and a few assume it’s made up like Goncharov. It’s also, for some ungodly reason, been labeled a Christmas film. (most of the plot happens in the ice and snow, hence ‘Antarctic Empire.’) I guess nothing says ‘Christmas spirit’ quite like ‘unmitigated violence, platonic yearning, and overthrowing oppressors.’

it should’ve never surprised me how focused my daughter could become whenever a hockey game is involved.
with every male in her life being a former or current player, there’s constant hockey around her. i guess i just never assumed that at three years old, she could be so content in watching a hockey game.
El is sat on the couch when i return from the nursery, her bowl of fruit next to her and her eyes laser focused on the Devils game that plays on the tv. she looks over as i sit beside her, taking note of my empty arms.
“my Leo sleeping?” she wonders, her eyes wide and curious.
i wrap an arm around my daughter, pulling her close to me as my other hand runs through her wild blonde curls.
“yeah, lovely. Elio is asleep, so we can’t be too loud, okay?” she nods at my words, laying her head against my chest and dialing back into the game.
i tune in as well, noticing the score has yet to change from 0-0 since i left to put my son to sleep. it’s well into the second period, and i know my husband and his teammates must be frustrated.
i’m proven correct when the camera pans to the bench, where Jack heatedly converses with his brother.
“mommy!” El’s head pops up from its spot, her sticky little hand patting my cheek to make sure i’m paying attention. “it’s daddy! and uncle Luke!”
“yeah?” i laugh, pressing i kiss to the top of her head.
“yeah! i see them, mommy!” her voice is near yelling, high with excitement as she leaves my arms, bounding closer to the television.
the camera is back on the ice now, where the ref calls a penalty on the other team for tripping.
sliding my phone out of my back pocket, i swipe into the camera app, discreetly propping the now recording phone up on a toy on the coffee table. the camera captures the expanse of the half of the living room that El and i currently occupy, providing a good shot of my daughter that stands at the tv, and of me where i sit on the sofa.
i focus back on the game, my husband on the current power play unit.
he passes the puck back and forth with his teammates around the opposing teams net, and in a matter of seconds, he’s got the puck back and he’s shooting it straight past the goalie.
a wide grin spreads across my lips, a squeal escaping me in excitement.
“GO DADDY!” El cheers, jumping up and down in front of the tv. she turns back to look at me and runs over, climbing back up on my lap. “he did it, mommy! daddy got a goal!”
“he did, munchkin!” she climbs back down, looking back at the tv.
“daddy again! i see him mommy!” she calls out as the screen zooms in on a closeup of my smiling husband before panning back out to show him skating over to the bench.
the game cuts to media break and i look back at El’s smiling face, a spitting image of Jack’s smile.
when the game returns, it opens on a shot of Jack sitting on the bench, talking animatedly to Nico.
“oh! i see him again!” El cries out, pointing at the tv as she bounces around. “that’s daddy! that’s my daddy!”
i gather my phone from the table, cutting off the recording as my daughter rejoins me on the couch. she curls up in my lap, pulling the bowl of fruit on the couch back into her own lap.
i quickly send the video to Jack, for him to watch when he gets back to his hotel, and then set my phone down on the arm of the couch, wrapping my arms around my three year old.
we sit like this for the remainder of the game, El falling asleep during the second intermission, and only once the Devils have won 3-1, do i move her into her bed.
i turn the tv off, cleaning up the living room and placing the empty bowl from El’s fruit into the dishwasher before retreating to my own room for the rest of the night. i plug my phone in, changing into my pajama’s, brushing my teeth, and washing my face before climbing into my bed.
i’m just about to turn my lamp off when my phone begins to ring, and i look over to see an incoming facetime from Jack.
accepting the call, it’s no more than a few seconds before it connects, his smiling face filling my screen.
“hi, love.” i greet, smiling back at him.
“hi, lovie. El asleep now?” he questions, and i notice his hair is damp, apparently freshly washed, but he’s not in his hotel room, rather sitting on the plane.
“yeah, she fell asleep during second intermission.” i tell him. “pretty sure she was just waiting for you to score before she let herself crash.”
he chuckles and i speak again, “i thought you guys weren’t coming home until tomorrow afternoon?”
“no, we’re about to take off. i’ll be back by the time you wake up, i just wanted to talk to you before you go to sleep.”
my heart flutters in my chest. eight years together and he still never fails to make me feel like i have a schoolgirl crush.
“i loved that video, thank you for capturing that. and for sending it.” his eyes are soft, and i know he must be missing El a lot right now.
“yeah, well, i wanted you to see your number one fan.” i laugh, and he feigns offense, holding his free hand to his chest.
“i thought you were my number one fan.”
“i think El’s got me beat now.” i exaggerate a pout and he chuckles.
“i gotta go, we’re about to take off.” he sighs, and i nod in understanding. “i’ll see you when i get home. i love you, beautiful.”
“i love you too, love. see you when you get home.”

anyway the season 3 premiere opens on a closeup shot of Izzy opening his eyes, washed in a blue hue <3 he's waking up in the gravy basket :3 he meets buttons there and they walk around talking, pretty much having the same conversation to the one Ed had with Hornigold - about his reasons to keep living, pros and cons, all that. and he decides to live.
stede and ed have been quietly coming to izzy's grave without telling the other, but they both know. one day/night one of them is keeping watch, when he hears something stirring in the grave.
The episode ends on a shot of a hand sporting a spade tattoo popping up from beneath the soft earth <3333

relevant note one: if you overlap the models, nimbus’ face neatly fits over rohan’s (though their eyes are lower since baby features). they are technically taller because their helmet forehead is larger. but nimbus’ heels sit higher from the floor in their shoes than rohan’s do, making nimbus a wee bit shorter than rohan actually. cute detail i enjoyed discovering!

Look at my mind, yeah
My feet are aching. I’ve been pacing the floor in my one room apartment for too long. I made this job happen. Photography. For a hockey team. What if I wasn’t any good? What if they decided I was horrible?
They looked at my portfolio, but those were mostly still shots. I had to take moving pictures of these players. I could do it. I had a million pictures of moving objects, but what if I just- what if my skill flew right out the window when it came time to work?
No better place or a time
Look how they align
The team was wonderful from day one. I grew close with Dougie Hamilton fairly quickly. I preferred to call him Dougie Ham. Or DH. He was often around to play jokes on me or ask questions about my camera. He helped the guys warm up to my constant presence.
My career so far has been nothing but amazing. I realized after a few months, that I may have worried myself too much and put too much pressure on myself. Getting photos was incredibly easy. Choosing the best ones was the hard part. And making sure I had equal content of the team. The Captain was alway slipping out of my shots and escaping rooms when I entered. I just assumed he was camera shy.
Universe must have my back
Practices were my favorites. The guys would occasionally stop for photos when I asked, and when they had water breaks. After most, when they were dismissed, I would step onto the ice and snatch a few for some closeup action shots. Still never Nico. It frustrated me.
I did manage a good picture of him once.. the photo that started it all.
Fell from the sky into my lap
I sat patiently on the bench while coaches shouted and instructed the guys around the ice. They were trying new drills, and new line combinations. Everything was going swimmingly, until I heard one of the coaches pipe up.
“Jesper! Get Hischier off the ice.” There was amusement in his tone, and I turned my camera down to the opposite end of the ice to see Lindy holding a skate blade while Jesper helped get Nico over to the bench. I giggled and took a few photos.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find Nico attractive, but I never got close enough to his face to know if he was as pretty as the internet said.
“Good job, bud.” Jesper taunted, reaching over the bench door to unlock and open it. He let Nico off the ice first, and the captain gently pushed him for the teasing.
Jesper stumbled on the ice as his skates slipped out from beneath him. I laughed softly and took a few photos as he grabbed the bench wall to steady himself.
“Damnit, Nico.” He snapped, though it was heartfelt frustration. Jesper stepped up onto the bench and gave his captain a bit harsher of a shove. Usually nothing to bat an eye at, but Nico didn’t have a skate blade on one foot, and I was directly behind him.
He tried to catch his weight on his messed up skate, and before I knew it, I was pulling my camera off my neck and raising my arms to keep it out of his collision course. Instead he landed on my thighs.
“Oh shit- oh dude.” Jesper was scrambling for an apology as mine and Nico’s faces went red. I had no words.. but everything was awkward now. Fix it.
I slowly lowered my camera, my heart fluttering as Nico let out an anxious giggle and forced a thick accented, ‘sorry’ from his lips. I shrugged, pointed the camera at his face, and snapped a few photos.
“If you’d stop running from me, people wouldn’t have to shove you in my direction.” I hinted passively. His cheeks turned as red as his jersey.
“Get up, you’re crushing me.”
And I know you know that you're my soulmate and all that
Nico and I began going on dates after that. By the third week we called it official. During the off season he took me to Switzerland to meet his family. During the holidays we celebrated, sometimes together, sometimes with his team. I was there for any award ceremony or charity event. Even the ones I didn’t have to attend.
We got an apartment together after the first year. The second year we started considering what a future might look like.
“Nico, it’s just a storm. The balcony won’t blow off.” I tried to pry my lover from the window of our apartment, my arms wrapped around his back while he stood there with his hands on his hips. He wasn’t afraid of storms, it was the aftermath that made him nervous. His hometown always experienced floods and landslides after heavy rainfalls like the one New Jersey was experiencing now. He must have never grown out of that fear that something may happen.
“Just a little while longer.. just let me look a little longer,” Nico whispered as I shook my head from behind him. He’d torture his mind all night by that window if I kept giving in to him saying his version of ‘five more minutes.’
“Come have a snack with me.” I pressed a kiss to Nico’s back. “My mom left fudge in the fridge before she left.” I pulled away, my hands sliding from his stomach to his hips before I turned to walk away.
I just entered the threshold of the kitchen when I heard Nico’s heavy steps following behind me. “Fudge?”
I giggled, shaking my head. I opened the fridge and pulled the small Tupperware container out, kicking the door shut before I hopped up onto the counter. I watched Nico approach with curious eyes, brow raised as he reached out to pull the lid off the container. Always in a rush to get to the sweets.
I smacked his hand away, holding the container out of reach. “You can have some, but you have to promise me no more looking out the window.” Nico’s lips pursed as his head tilted to the side, silently and sarcastically asking me if I was serious.
“You haven’t relaxed all night, baby. It’s a storm. Not a hurricane.”
“Fine. I’ll shut the blinds before we go to bed.”
“Absolutely not. You’ll go to bed, and I’ll shut the blinds.” I held my free hand out to him. “Shake on it.” I insisted. Nico’s eyes flickered between my own and my hand before he let out a dramatic sigh, smiling and shaking my hand.
“verlass mich nie,” he whispered as he leaned his side against the counter, his smile widening when I handed him a piece of fudge. Never leave me.
“I don’t know what you said,” I whispered, matching his dreamy tone with a sarcastic one in my own voice.
My whole life got me ready for you, ooh
Nico proposed to me a month later, and we prepped for our wedding for a year. We were coming up on five months from the set date. I showed my ring off to everybody. He showed the video off to his team.
“Do you have a house yet?” My mother asked me as we sifted through dresses at a bridal shop.
“No. Nico and I plan to spend one more year in our apartment after we’re married.” My mother looked perplexed, and I could understand why. We’d have all of this new stuff from gifts people gave us, and no place to put it all.
“Why?”
“Because the team is really good this year. Nico doesn’t want me moving into some new house all alone if he’s in the playoffs.” I completely agreed with Nico. When we got a house, I wanted to move in with him. We hadn’t necessarily agreed to a year, but that was the longest we were willing to wait before buying a home, so it’s what we told everybody.
“What about this one?” My mom pulled a dress out. My heart was set on it the second I tried it on.

“Nico.. I love you. I have every second of every day, since the day you fell into me,” I whispered my vows over and over under my breath as I looked in the mirror. The wedding didn’t have to be perfect. Everything could be on fire and complete chaos around me. As long as my vows were spotless, I would be content.
The week before the wedding, Nico had kicked me out of our apartment for a few hours, telling me to go shopping or ask one of the wags out for dinner. He wouldn’t tell me why at first, but after much questioning, he informed me that he had to record his vows. Not everybody in his family spoke English, so he told me he had to record it in the language they would understand. I reasoned that I wouldn’t know a word he spoke anyway, but he insisted that if I still heard his vows, it wouldn’t feel right when he spoke them again at the altar.
This was the same guy who always tried to sneak a peek at my notebook full of ideas for my own vows. I had to make him promise not to look at the notebook two days into his mischief.
“I hope he’s going to be happy with them.” I picked up the skirt of my dress to walk across the room I got ready in, staring myself down in the full length mirror.
“Sweetie..” my best friend smiled. “He’s never disliked a single thing you’ve ever done.”

I walked down the isle, my hands shaking and my eyes already tearing up at the sight of my fiancé. I had no regrets. I will never have regrets when it comes to Nico. This was the man I wanted to spend my life with.
“…And I understand, you’ve prepared your own vows?” The priest questioned, looking between us. I nodded, my eyes searching Nico’s face as a silent question. Who was going first.
“You.. you go.” I could tell he was nervous as he spoke, but I’d argue I was more worried than he was. He encouraged me with a smile.
“Okay..” I breathed out a sigh. I loved him. Every word would roll off my tongue the way it was supposed to whether it happened like I rehearsed or not.
“Nico… I love you. I have every second of every day, since the day you fell into me. In the next few minutes, a new commitment is going to be made. I’ve made many in my life, and you’ve made your own. I’ve been known to abandon my commitments. There are some things I simply can’t stick with. But every commitment I’ve ever made with you, I have seen through. You have stood by me through my hardest days and my coldest nights. Fights I’ve instigated, and tears I’ve cried. We have shared our everything. Clothes, songs, foods and movies. A home. Now we share our lives. Our entire beings, with one another. You are the foundation I stand on, and the anchor that holds me to the ground when I fear I might fly away. I hope I have been the same for you. And I hope I can keep being the same.. for the rest of eternity.” Tears stung my eyes. I could see Nico fighting to keep his own from going glassy. “Ich liebe dich.”
Surprise flashed in Nico’s eyes. I hadn’t told him I was practicing any German for this. And despite it being a short sentence, it was one I knew he wished I would reply to in his first language at least once.
“Sir?” The priest interrupted our silence. Nico nodded, pulling his hands away from my own to grab a few notecards from his back pocket.
“I hope you don’t mind I wrote them down? I was.. I was afraid I might forget a word.” Nico searched for a sign of disapproval in my features. His nervousness only made me giggle and shake my head.
“You’re fine.. I’ll still love you.. notecards or not.” It was his turn to chuckle, stepping a bit closer to me as I reached out to rest my hands on his forearms. Nico drew in a shaky breath, tears already forming in his eyes again. “Take your time, baby.” I whispered, my heart swelling. Nico was only an emotional man in front of certain people. But even on his wedding day, he couldn’t hold his usual facade.
“I used to avoid you.. when you came to work for the Devils. When I first saw you I thought you were.. just the prettiest girl I’d ever seen. You made me nervous.. your camera made me nervous.” Nico smiled, glancing up at me. “I used to think that if you took too many pictures you might see too many imperfections. Instead I stand here now, knowing that you’ve seen me at my worst and my best. When my hair has been too long,” this earns a few giggled laughs from our guests. “And when it’s been too short.” This time it’s Jack who laughs. The exact person who is to blame for Nico’s hair being ‘too short’ at one point. “You have always opened every door to me in a time of need. Especially the bathroom door when you’re doing your skincare stuff.” I laughed softly.
Taking my makeup off at the end of the day took enough time in and of itself, but then my skincare routine added to that amount. I usually left the door closed for a bit of privacy and space, but there was the occasional times when Nico would start knocking on the door begging to be let in because he had to go to the bathroom.
“But the doors I am most grateful for being opened, have been the ones in your mind, and your heart. You allowed me to love you.. and you trusted me with every piece of yourself. You’ve given me a chance to prove my worth, and to love something more than anything else I have. I would build castles for you, and tear down any wall in your way just to see you smile. We may grow old together, but we will never grow apart. I will love you until my heart no longer beats, and my body is six feet under. And after that, whatever may be in that distant afterlife, I will love you again, and again, and again.” Nico sniffled, by now I had tears running down my cheeks.
“du bist mein Seelenverwandter,” Nico finished with words I did not recognize, but he translated for me, without putting up his usual cheeky fight. “You are my soulmate.”
After the ‘I do’s’ were exchanged, and rings were put on fingers, Nico and I shared our first kiss as a married couple. Neither of us could rightfully express the feelings in our hearts, but we knew we’d simply squeeze the life out of one another if we hugged. It was that ‘it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die’ kind of feeling. A soulful, vast, and intense kind of love.

“Lord, Nic.” I giggled as we sat at a table near the front of the reception hall. We were the center of attention, but it didn’t feel like it. My bridal party and his groomsmen were off doing their own thing, and the rest of our friends and families were all conversing over food. Which was what Nico and I had been doing, until he got up to grab a plate full of my mother’s fudge.
“If you get sick tonight, we can’t have sex.” I informed him, reaching out to gently squeeze his leg. “Slow down.” Nico gave me a cautious look before resting his hand atop my own. His fingers found my engagement ring and my wedding band.
“When you said, ‘I love you’ today…” Nico’s brow furrowed in thought.
“I learned it for you. I wanted to do more, but my schedule was too busy for classes.” I smiled at him, his eyes finding my own.
“I’m content if ‘I love you’ is all you ever know.” Nico flashed me a bright smile. “Now please eat this fudge with me.. I did get too much, and I really don’t want it to go to waste.”
I laughed and shook my head at him. “Nic, I’m in a white dress. Go give it to Jack and the kids.” I nodded toward the middle Hughes brother, seated at a table full of kids and entertaining them with paper footballs.
“I won’t be gone long,” Nico promised, quickly standing up and grabbing the small dish. He pressed a kiss to my head before going to sugar up the children.
Imma be happy, happy
I leaned back in my seat, smiling as I observed the jovial atmosphere around myself. I looked back down at my ring, shaking my head in disbelief. Committing to Nico was single-handedly the best decision I’ve ever made. I will never make a better one.

look guys i actually did some spirit designs

Luther's is an ape that looks like his body from the comics. Diego's is a creature that looks a bit like a small porcupine. Allison's is a large snake with its mouth duct taped shut. Klaus' is a blue raccoon with three eyes and a pink tail, and Viktor's is based off of the White Violin from the comics, except its head transforms into reaching arms. End ID.]

[ID: Luther's spirit is labelled First Simian In Space: THE MARTIAN APE. He looks like the ape that supplied Luther's body in the comics, drawn in the paranatural style; blue, with one eye. He is wearing an astronaut helmet and sitting in a coin operated rocket ship that is much too small for it. He has transformed the world around him into a scifi martian landscape; cardboard standups with doors and lockers scribbled on them are the only indication of the real world. Luther is sprawled on the ground staring in shock, while the Martian Ape says "Y'know, you should totally just kill your dad".
Diego's spirit is a very small creature that looks a bit like a porcupine.
Panel 1: Diego holds his spirit in his hands and says, "So, what's your name?". His spirit responds "I am called..."
Panel 2: A caption appears; Projectile Extraordinaire: KRAKEN. The image is in full color, focusing on Kraken, which glowers cutely and shows off her spines.
Panel 3: The same shot as panel one, except Diego now looks very skeptical. He says "..." and then "Why." Kraken responds "It sounded cool."
Allison's spirit is a giant green snake coiled around a tree branch, with a pattern down his back that looks like open mouths.
The first two images are centered on Allison, who is scowling in both. Someone unseen says "It can force people to do things, honey!" and "It's too dangerous to leave you alone with it." and finally, "So we fixed it."
The final image is of the spirit. He is captioned Muzzled Mind Controller: THE RUMOR. His mouth has been duct taped shut. He does not look pleased.
Klaus' spirit is a blue raccoon with dark purple legs and a fluffy striped pink tail. It also has three eyes.
Panel 1: The large colored closeup of Klaus' spirit. It is captioned Mystical Conartist: THE SEANCE.
Panel 2: Klaus asks it "With a name like that, what's your power?" The Seance, its nose just high enough to fit into frame, replies, "Oh, I can sense ghosts"
Panel 3: Klaus looks supremely unimpressed. In the background, a ghost says "Hi" to Allison and Luther, and they say "Oh, hey" back.
Panel 4: Klaus asks, "Seriously?"
Panel 5: The Seance, viewed from above, says "Hey, I can sense them even when they're not visible! Like behind walls and stuff!"
Panel 6: The Seance adds "Also I can float." It is demonstrating, floating about eye level with Klaus and emitting a cloud of cyan spectral energy as it does so. Klaus looks more pleased with this and says "Okay, that one's pretty good."
Viktor's spirit is a Wight, a spirit so warped by rage and pain that it has permanently been changed, its spectral energy has become white, and has gained massive, devastating power. It looks a lot like the design of the White Violin in the comics, but it manifests too many or too few arms from where its head should be.
There are three images of it. In the first, it is kneeling. It has manifested six arms in varying degrees of completeness, and all of them look sad.
In the second, the matter of its head has split into many small pieces that almost look like parts of mouths, save for two clawing hands. It screams, in the Wight spirit language from Paranatural, WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME.
In the third, the largest, its knees buckle as it stands and manifests one reaching hand. It is captioned Violent White: THE WHITE VIOLIN. End ID]

He stutters out, “Wh- I….I…” Guillermo continues from offscreen: “I would have gone back to Panera with a bloody hickey and been none the wiser!” 2b. Extreme closeup on Guillermo in profile on a blood spattered background, eyes wide and a little wild as he puts the pieces together. He’s thinking out loud. He says, “You kept me around. You wanted to try again.” The panel splits to show a matching closeup of Nandor in profile, appearing back to back with Guillermo’s panel. He stares at the ground, panicking, spitting out “Stop saying things I have done!” 2c. Shot of Guillermo’s hand as he steps closer to Nandor’s chair and leans in, planting it on his armrest. Nandor quickly whips his own arm back, fingers curling up in a fist to avoid being touched. Guillermo continues, “You we’re as devastated as I was when I didn’t turn. You didn’t tell me because you wanted me to stay.” Nandor shakily breathes out a warning, “Guillermo…” 2d. Wide shot of the two in profile, Guillermo standing with both hands gripping Nandor’s armrests and leaning in close to his face with a determined expression. Nandor has squashed himself against the back of the chair, elbows tight to his sides as he is forced to meet Guillermo’s gaze with naked fear on his face.
