Honestly the acotar community discourse baffles me cause like have people never been exposed to conflicting perspectives before? Like just ignore the ones you don’t agree with and continue enjoying your favourite (can’t believe I have to highlight this) FICTIONAL characters/ships! Like why are people mean to content creators and blogs over this - I rly don’t get it

You’re absolutely so right. It’s so weird. I totally get why people like the ships I don’t, and I respect it. I get it, the ships just don’t really work for me and that’s okay. Just because I have a preference doesn’t make yours invalid :) I did start tagging ship fanarts for anyone who wants to filter their tags.

It’s really weird because I’ve been in other fandoms and I’ve never seen shipping wars like this. Truthfully, even if my ships don’t happen, as long as the characters are happy and it makes sense that’s all that matters to me.

For anyone familiar with Avatar: the Last Airbender, I shipped Zutara, so I’m fine with my ships not sailing. Would I prefer them to be canon? Yes. Will I still engage with non-canon ships if my ships were sunk? Absolutely.

The fun of shipping is looking at two or more characters and being like “wow - they have these things in common, I think they would make an interesting relationship dynamic.”

If there’s one thing that could make me like Chaol again, it’s the fact that he stopped at nothing to dive into a hellish dimension to rescue Fleetfoot.

Obviously I need some more detail about fae and what they are and why humans might fear and hate them.

If we’re going by ACOTAR rules, faeries never seemed to be all that different from humans, and the fear just stems from a centuries old war that might have carried with it a prejudice through the generations.

We kind of got a glimpse of the wider world in this story, but we haven’t really encountered fae or tales of their wickedness yet. But Celaena herself calls it “the monster unleashed” or whatever, so maybe they are worse than ACOTAR faeries, or maybe, she’s just been hanging out with humans too long and has internalized that self hatred. But I think she stands a good chance of teaching the world that faeries are just like humans, especially since she was able to mask herself as one and build all these vital friendships.

I dunno

I just hope that they don’t all start to hate her for something she can’t control.

ACOFAS REVIEW -INC SPOILERS

4.5 stars.

Okay, so! This was the first book I was able to finish in 2021. I've kinda been in a reading slump, and struggling to get past the 30-50% of books. I think its because I took essentially 3 months off my normal (daily) reading schedule and have been prioritising other things (health, fitness, job applications etc) - I think it's a testament to how addicted I was to this that I finished and consumed this at the rate I did! I recently went back and added some things to my ACOWAR review. To briefly summarise, I feel that, at the time I read it, it kind of gave me what I needed, but it definitely isn't getting a re read - my love for feysand has definitely lessened over time, but honestly i'm not that mad at sarah for this, as I find that whenever I've passed the sexual tension part of relationships in books, I tend to get bored of the domestic bliss. Like, leave that shit for an epilogue and keep it at that? As someone generally averse to relationships, but there is definitely a grace period for how long I can actively be smitten with a couple... before it becomes sickly. Taking all this into account, I honestly was nervous for this book, its release date totally took me by surprise, and I read it on a whim. As a Nessian shipper (I mean we didn't really have a choice after acomaf but to delve into the world of fanfic to keep us going) - this book gave me most of what I wanted and needed from them! I think,(some) kudos to SJM, for not disappointing in their relationship. This was definitely a character > plot driven story. In terms of the plot, I wasn't really invested until around the 38% mark? I'm not sure if I was adjusting to the writing style (lots of dramatic. sentences. that. are. so. abrupt. Nesta Archeron. Death etc) - or if it was bc I hadn't read an SJM book since the novella, which I basically skimmed. I was obviously reading for Nessian, but I didn't really feel intrigued by the wider plot (death gods, the human queens? Given I had lost my previous obsession with the world/ have outgrown 'fandom' culture, that made me actively update my knowledge, I couldn't remember a lot!) I think its clear that SJM excels character driven stories, but I think her worldbuilding and execution is significantly better in the throne of glass franchise. Now, I did say this was a character driven story. This is mostly regarding Nesta, Cassian and Azriel. I loved pretty much any interaction they had! I love a good training montage. Ngl though, I think, unless you possess an ardent love for Nessian, you're not going to be particularly wowed by this, if you've read heir of fire, or even acomaf. I obviously am never going to be able to be objective, because I've loved nessian so much from 2017-now, but I loved the dynamic those two (and three - friendship wise between nes/cass/az). One of the highlights of ACOWAR for me was the snippets of Az, showing tenderness, and opening up to the newer members of the inner circle (and i'm excluding any hint of an Elriel ship because FUCK THAT LOL) For me, the tip with SJM books is: once you outgrow them/the particular mode of narrative style, is to not anticipate anything other than a character driven story, albeit one riddled with smut. I personally am a romance heavy reader, so I'm honestly deconditioned to it at this point, (like, when I see reviewers scandalised I'm like... wow, the amount of trash I have consumed in the last five years loool.) While I disagree with the fact SJM marketed this series as y/a (or maybe it wasn't her per se, but the key booksellers definitely did this for her) - I think its clear enough now she's descended into the adult/borderline erotica genre.(very mild imo). I personally like to adopt a policy of skimming sex scenes when I find the dialogue cringy (most the time it is lets be honest any talking is v second hand embarrassment). Cassian and Nesta were definitely better than Rhys and Feyre post chapter 55 though! I was so glad there weren't a million moments of Cass/Nesta betraying their arousal with their scents, in front of everyone (like feysand, the voyeuristic pda pricks they are). I found the slowburn ish nature of their relationship great, and I actually think if you're a virgo/emotionally stunted reader, you will be happy with their relationship dynamic. It contrasts with the daemati sexual snark of acomaf, but it felt right, and authentic. This book was a journey of personal growth, for Nesta. It is clear SJM loves books about strong women, and maybe thats what makes me love this book so much. I think, out of all the archeron sisters, I love Nesta the most. This is for my Rose Calloway fans, my misunderstood, somewhat cold/left out girls, who are less receptive to being vulnerable. If you're a slowburn fan, it's not Mariana Zapata levels of slowburn, imo it's the perfect combo. Addictive enough that I don't want to put it down, but not so fast moving that I couldn't believe it. I loved the sex without emotion relationship they had!! This is honestly never done in mainstream n/a fantasy, unless its a caricature of a 'slut' that normally rivals the main character, lmao. Even if their inner conflict was p transparent, this gave me everything I needed! I know this is vapid lol but I also love the physical dynamic between the two, they just look so good together, the amount of fanart I'm going to reacquaint myself with after this review!! I adored seeing Nesta grow, (even if towards the end I kind of resented her sudden acceptance into the inner circle, i get SJM loves her and just wanted a fluffy ending, but, as a Nesta like character, it's awkward and stilted on her end to adjust to the inner circle like this - i mean, hugging rhys, really??)

I think, if I had to compare this to any other SJM book, I would say Chaols book (though I obviously preferred this). That being said, I felt less attached to new characters in this book than I was in even Chaols book (and even then ngl I remember nothing?) Obviously I loved what it represented, as a trio of traumatised women. I just, didn't love this the way I loved other inner circle members! I get that they gave Nesta exactly what they needed, a family that doesn't hold the history of her sisters, who she doesn't have to worry about holding preconceived notions of disappointment. I loved this for her! Even then.. I just wasn't attached to either of them. I found their interactions cute - but boring. Towards the end, when their stories/pasts are revealed, I couldn't help but cringe slightly, I can't put my finger on why, but I just didn't buy it. Maybe it's the brit in me but I couldn't be moved by this slightly forced bonding moment.. which was so anticlimactic. My 'aww how cute' tolerance is defo deserved for characters whose tropes I love. Maybe they just didn't fit into this list. Maybe I'm just being a cow here?

Now, let's speak about the real star of the show.... A FUCKING MAGICAL HOUSE FRIEND??? YESSSSSSS. IF YOU ARE AN ILONA ANDREWS INNKEEPERS CHRONICLES FAN, U WILL LOVE! How was the animation of this somehow more touching than all of nesta's other friendships combined? Exactly what I ordered, thank you. This trope somehow touches more than any material bonding!! The cute witch x house dynamic (also maybe howls moving castle vibes?) I loved the trying to reach the target of 10,000 steps (a little Celaena HOF). I think this, heir of fire and acomaf are my favourite SJM books for this reason. Gripes: I definitely had some personal gripes with how other members of the inner circle treated Nesta (rhys i'm looking at you. Disappointed doesn't even cover it.) I inherently take offence to any elain scene, as i'm so over bland characters whose existence is reduced to wanting to fucking plant flowers?? like?? really? To go from moriel to that is such a downgrade, even if I fell out of love with Mor due to the way she snubbed Nesta (you're a 500 year old being and you can't see someone is clearly traumatised?). I adore Az so much, but if it aint polyamorous, I cannot see any pairing with Elain making me happy. (wouldn’t mind gwyn though) I think the whole mating bond that I do not want is a good dynamic, but I really hate that everyone has to be mates in this world. I don't think we were that surprised, but it would've been nice if the somehow, idk, developed a strong bond over time, without it being preordained? Like, even if they do not all actively stay with their mate, given how disproportionate mates are among the general population, what's the likelihood 6 members of the inner circle (including lucien) have mates?

My advice? Read this book if you love nessian and the acotar world in general, but don't expect the world building to be consistent with greater fantasy series'. This style of story is obviously what to expect. She writes what she likes, and if her fantasy is this - then who are we, as readers, to expect otherwise?

Final rating: 4.5 (no, i'm not objective, but objectivity does not exist if you are a real, human being, lol)

Original Characters: 5/5 (nessian/az/house wise) 1/5 (feysand - really over how they essentially take over the very end of the book - ugh, I wanted nesta's arc to be wholly separate from them) Writing style: 3.5 Cringe Scale: Low, with the exception of some dialogue. New Characters: 2 Plot: I went into it with a 2 and came out with a 4. Not in terms of complexity, but in terms of how addictive and enjoyable this reading experience was! (less)

christ you guys she’s been answering this question for eons i want it to stop, especially bc right now she’s talking about getting to write the final scenes of a book she’s been working on since she was a teenager. we know the drill. 

okay wait now she’s saying when t0g was bought fantasy (yes, fantasy, not ya fantasy) hadn’t taken off and had just one publisher say yes to t0g. everyone else rejected it and i have a feeling they don’t regret that in the slightest. 

oh my god she’s still talking. the author moderating the event (Katharine McGee) hasn’t said one word since that first question. 

she just asked if there are any other aspiring writers in the ground, and then said that “if i can do it, you can do it” and i’m cackling. and getting published is “a long road” and that wasn’t a tornado, it was just me sighing. (today was a shitty day in terms of publishing where i’m concerned, so yeah)

and now she’s talking about how the book was going to be longer than 992 pages, originally 1008 pages. she gets a call from her editor, who says “the book is too long” and sj/m replies “you can’t do this to me EVERY WORD AND EVERY COMMA IS EXACTLY WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE” (emphasis my own) OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD @longsightmyth​

and apparently her editor said “we have to find a way to make the book shorter without cutting anything from it” and sure, janet. and christ on a bike the entire team at blooms worked around the clock to get the book to the printers in two days, or it wouldn’t have been printed in time for release. they bumped up the text a little on the chapter header, condensed chapters through the formatting so hanging paragraphs between chapters would fit on the previous page.so cutting out one whole page, basically. 

sj/m: so they managed to cut it down to nine hundred and ninety–”

guys i’m sorry i can’t sit through her answer bc if is basically a reworked version of everything i wrote above and everything she has said umpteen times (all about fictionpress, to get this book published she had to rewrite new things, treat the first version as a completely separate book, start over with a blank page, blah blah blah i really don’t give a fuck, janet moving on)

i’m not sure if she mentioned this in the other events, but she’s explaining how she wrote ratalien fanfic.

McGee: was it hard for you when the first two books came out and the readers were all excited trying to ship–

and now she’s talking about tambourine and riceman. so. 

she’s talking about some animal that went extinct from Costa Rica? “go vote and save the environment” and now she’s explaining where she got the ending for k0a from (the mountains and the sun and she started crying) worth noting she said she went to Costa Rica in 2013, thereby getting the ending of k0a in 2013. 

guys i want to donate my ears to science as well as my eyeballs: 

sj/m: alien never did what i wanted her to do except doing rowboat, if you know what i mean (emphasis not my own)

i just laughed out loud at sj/m: “please let alien get me to this ending that i want, if she survives.” one of the biggest surprises was getting alien to the ending that she wanted.

McGee: i love what you said about aelin, i feel like she has literally grown up alongside you, or you’ve grown up alongside her, she’s such a fun character bc she’s vulnerable and strong and she’s not afraid to be both badass and very girly at the same time

(you guys know my thoughts about the ridiculousness of still complimenting alien for being badass and girly like the two are not mutually exclusive and no longer unique character traits can we stop now kthxbai)

so now we know why she made Lysandra a snow leopard (yes this is my assumption): she has a leopard ring and her leopard shirt bc you can never have too much leopard on leopard

so with alien and Lysandra and all the ladies in this series, they’re all strong in different ways, elide can’t gut you the way alien can, she has her own strength (intelligence and kindness), then Manon (her favorite) came into her life at a time she needed a character to identify with, Manon’s journey is one of her favorite things she’s ever written. 

aaaaaaaand a side story wherein she explains how Manon appeared in her head and saw Manon in her first scene in h0f after music and i’m snoring (and then another piece of music where she saw a scene in k0a and began sobbing but she doesn’t say which scene)

and now she’s talking about how thick the books are. someone says all the books should be the same size on the shelf and sj/m says “look at Harry Potter! whose rule is that? it’s a dumb rule” (claims she said it “i understand but no”–emphasis not my own)

OH MY GOD SHE’S EXPLAINING HOW SHE’S NEVER CRIED MORE IN A SCENE IN K0A AND GUYS I AM SO BEYOND DONE SHE’S JUST REPEATING HERSELF IN NEW WAYS I WANT DEATH

McGee: i love how all your women are strong in different ways, even Kaltain, characters who start one way and then their story seems expected and it ends in such a different place

congrats, McGee, you just described writing a character arc (i apologize for the snark but ugh)

McGee continued: which brings me to the dedication of this book, do you want to talk about that at all, there might be zero people in the audience who’ve read k0a yet, what do you want to say to them before they start reading? 

what would you call this expression? grimace? “hOw DaRe”? 

and now she’s talking about the dedication, which we all know my thoughts on (i’ll spare you from another repeat bc i, unlike sj/m, try not to say the same things over and over again)

every time a book came out her parents would open the book and ask why it wasn’t dedicated to them and she wanted to wait to dedicate the last book to them, so. (she thought the dedication would be a spoiler but “ladies are gonna get shit done,” “take on the man,” wah wah) and she’s mentioned ac0tar again. 

HOLY SHIT SHE JUST ASKED MCGEE WHO SHE DEDICATED HER BOOK TO I AM SHOOK. “aw that’s so sweet, i don’t have a sister so i can’t dedicate it like you can” (yes i’m paraphrasing again)

and she’s brought out Taran. he’s cute and all and oh my god “i can hear a baby crying and go ‘eh i don’t care he’s not my baby’ but then i hear my baby” and blah blah blah

how did you get the idea for your url: I was in the throes of Hamiltrashdom. I related to Peggy on some levels so I chose and---peggy. (andpeggy was chosen, so I used three dashes as a space. Re: lucky number) I chose inlovewithlove, because I wanted something other than a Hamilton lyric and I love romance books or books with romance (don’t judge me), so inlovewithlove it was.

ACOMAF AND ME aka RHYS AND ME

I don’t know how i’m gonna gather my thoughts properly so i can write this review . First of all ; this book is my 3rd bookish masterpiece after strange the dreamer and six of crows . This book left me heartless ; poorly emotionless , clearly it had rhys the most powerful high lord of the night court not just the night court ; the land of faeries guys ! I gave ACOTAR 5 stars ; and i loved tamlin in the begining but i adored rhys even though i didn’t know the ‘why’ behind his bad intentions cuz i’m so into villains and bad guys . They are my faves most of the time ; i enjoy them so much ; as i always keep saying , they have this interesting heart wrenching back story that keep you on the edge of your seat . So throughout ACOMAF , you gonna discover rhys’s real persona and you gonna fall in love with him burningly . With these cocky dialogues ; his harshness ; his sassines ; his smartness ; OMG his hotness ; his inner innocense too . What he surpassed and bore to protect his people that didn’t praise a shred of his efforts*letmekillthem* . How i gonna describe my infinite love for him ? just how ? Guys this guy is the perfection itself . How he was treating feyre most of the time ; how he controlled himself emotionally and let feyre chose and decide for herself . Not just that , he was so lonely and he knew that feyre is the chosen one and she’s his mate but he didn’t force her to be with him ; he let her choose  for herself and she chose tamlin ; the one he dealt with her gently and protected her family kindly but as rhys said : *the issue isn’t whether he loved you ; it’s how much . too much . love can be poison * and i wanted to punch badly tamlin in the face for this . As much as i loved him in the 1st book ; i hated him a little bit in acomaf . he just loved her so much that he wanted to confine her like a doll or his precious thing in his castle . and this is beyond feyre’s nature , she is born to be a huntress ; facing the unbearable obstacles and the death itself ; to defend herself and the one she loves . And to love someone ; it means loving him with his qualities and flaws . so tamlin needed first to fathom deeply feyre’s nature that  she needed him to let her live freely and do the things that she used to do since her childhood . My favourites moments of tamlin were in acotar during the ritual when he was so sexy and he kinda punish feyre by biting her in the neck . and god only know how much i enjoyed him during that !! then rhys came and brought with him all i wanted from a bookboyfriend !

SO as my friends know ; I’m a nerd when it comes to space ; galaxies ; constellations and stars . And guess what guys .THE NIGH COURT IS ALL I WAS DREAMING ABOUT. REALLY !!  A perfect bookboyfriend who can summon the stars and darkness and has his castle surrounded by countless stars ? are u kidding me !!! THE NIGHT COURT IS MY HOME !! TAKE ME TO IT !! AND HOW SARAH J MASS PORTRAYED PERFECTLY  EVERYTHING AND DEPRESSED THE SHIT OUT OF ME FOR LIVING IN THIS BORING LIFE  JUST WOW .

Okay let’s talk about the bond thing and how emotionally hilarious was … How rhys tried to soothe feyre when she was upset or anxious by his cocky jokes and his hilarious sexy flirtations through the bond and guess whut all of this just for the sake of helping her and not him who was alone for fuckin 50 decades or whatever . srsly am over when it comes to him . Also i’m fond of the mate thing , like finding someone who can actually understand how you think ; the things that annoy you or make u uncomfortable ; also what you love or admire the most and sarah did a great job concerning the romance . Sometimes the attraction and the desires toward a person aren’t what we need in a lover essentially . The one we’re searching about is a soulmate actually ; the one who gonna spend the rest of his life rightly with you  needs to be your mind mirror or at least fathom completely your inner thoughts which i admired the most in this . and my soulmate is rhys rn

When they hurt him in the wings and dragged him to an unknown  cave and feyre tried to track him down and find him and when she did ; she protected him and gave him her blood … IT WAS BLOODY EMOTIONAL

ACTUALLY I JUST NOTICED EVERYTHING LIKE EVERYTHING WAS PERFECTLY PERFECT IN THIS BOOK .
